Just Jesse Eisenbergs interpretation of Lex Luthor is over the top.
When my review was written I have watched it for the third time: First time in cinema was a big disapointment. Now I know: This movie is a grower. I'll watch the Ultimate Cut several Times.
In context with all the other movies in the DCEU it's the absolute core of what makes that cinematic universe great. Hopefully the Sender Cut of Justice League fullfills the storyline.

I used to sit on TV and suddenly it started running on HBO, so I thought I'd give it a try and in the finale I was happy. Quite nice story with pretty good music. Almost the whole film doesn't happen at all, which may be the hate, but I personally enjoyed it, mainly because in the end we will see the phenomenal battle that we have been waiting for the whole film. It's as if the movie has been preparing you for that fight all along and then releasing it at you. For me, a good film that I can recommend mostly to DC fans. Expand

Ben Afleck for his part could not better fit the role like a glove, a magnificent performance of the Ghotham vigilante that had not been seen since Keaton's performance. A film with ups and downs, but as a new spectator, it returned my affection for the genre, looking forward to seeing Zack Snyder JL and being able to unite them as a cult trilogy for a large part of the fandome with a narrative of a Greek epic. This is an exceptional film that has themes overlooked by everybody. This is a bold, unique, different and a gorgeous film. The direction by Zack Snyder the cinematography by Larry Fong and the writing by David S Goyer, Chris Terrio and the editing of David S Brenner is immaculate. The film does something that was really essential for the characters of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor by deconstructing them , making them relevant in modern times and making Superman especially quite relatable. Ben Affleck,Jessie Eisenberg, Henry Cavill Amy Adams and Gal Gadot knock it out of the park with their stellar performance. On the other side the character Lois Lane was annoying in the beginning of the movie. Lex Luthor was also annoying, he was too childish and too "cool".
Some dialogues were boring and the characters were uninteresting.
Some action scenes had bad CGI effects and there were too much of them, so they felt unrealistic.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (ULTIMATE EDITION) So here's what I love about this film: I do believe that Ben Affleck plays the best comic book version of the Batman. Whenever he delivers his lines I simply believe that he is this character and he also looks the part more than any other actor who portrayed this character. I love the tone and overall I think the movie is visually stunning for the most part. I like that key characters initially have clear motivations and are fleshed out. Score is phenomenal too and fight scenes are worth re-watching. I DON'T LIKE how this movie tries too achieve more than it should - introducing members of the justice league (through short videos sent via e-mail, like... What?) Making Lex Luthor the main villain when it could have easily been just Batman vs Superman. No need to have a mastermind pulling the strings. Just have two forces be pitted against each other. Also, Eisenberg's performance is annoying. I don't even care that it's not accurate to the comics, it's just annoying. Doesn't strike me as a villain who should be feared. Looks like a spoiled brat that could just get slapped and would cry somewhere in a corner. Anyway, Martha scene... I get what they were trying to achieve but it was just too sudden, so it just cracks me up every time I see it. They needed some other way to show superman's humanity to Batman. Then killing off superman in his second movie was a mistake. Way too soon and Wayne with Diana talking at the end like they knew Kent for centuries. That was dumb. Batman's nightmare should have been cut out. So out of place (or after credits scene maybe?) Not going to even talk much about Doomsday. Just.. (sigh). I'm still hopeful for DC. I'm a fan. Expand

I disagree withTruthfully the movie is judged too much for its flaws, and not enough for the truly brilliant moments. I'm rating this based on the Ultimate Edition and the pacing within that version, because it truly to improve the pacing. I disagree with the majority of people complaining about the dark tone because it is very much needed. DC is not Marvel, nor should they strive to be. This movie had a particular tone, and it scratched an itch that very few Marvel movies ever could (exception being Infinity War, which was much more daring, somber, and dramatic than all others including Endgame). These movies are needed, which is why I'm so excited about the Snyder cut. We can follow up on this story. The movie has so many quotes and cool moments, but the game changer is the wonderful soundtrack craftd by Junkie XL and Hans Zimmer. As a musician, music makes or breaks the movie for me. Batman's theme in this one is haunting, and the theme of the movie, while a bit dramatic, is epic enough to serve the film in a satisfying way. I'm rambling. Basically I love this movie. The music and the visuals and the storyas well. Expand

zack snyder made his best work with this movie showing the best heroes on the history of the comics in his worst moments in a movie about the fall, the hate and later rise ,redemption and hope sending a beatiful message to the audience that everybody can fall, even our best heroes but the thing that defines heroes is the ability to overcome to the obstacles (this movie helped me to overcome my depression).
Ben affleck did an amazing job in this movie, probably the best in his career, jesse eisenberg was very good as a version of lex luthor very similar to mark suckerberg, and the introduction of gal gadot like wonder woman was a dream come true for every dc comic fan.
Also the movie has a lot of political, religion and philosophical references that makes the movie very rewatchable for finding new things, and think about it and make a reflexion.
i can say a lot of things of this movie, but my english is not as good as i wanted to, the only thing i can say to close this review is: watch the ultimate edition with an open mind and you will find one of the best superheroe movies ever made.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v Superman is directed by Zack Snyder and written by David S Goyer. This movie has 28% on rotten tomatoes and is still overrated. And no, the extended edition isn't any better. How could a movie about the two most awesome superheroes out there with one of the best casts of 2016 become a boring, edgy, self-important, nonsensical, annoying, uneven, soulless product? Three things WB, Zack Snyder, and David S Goyer. Now, these people can be trusted when working with smart people. Ex, Watchmen (dir.Zack Snyder based on a novel by Alan Moore), The Dark Knight (co-written.David S Goyer and Chris Nolan, and Heat (prod.WB dir. Michael Mann). But you put only those three in a room and you come up with crap. With a cast with Ben Affleck, Jena Malone, Amy Adams, Henry Cavil, and Laurence Fishburne, you can't do any wrong...right? Wrong, the "film" follows a contrived and flat out dumb plot in which a final showdown between Batman and Superman is plotted and nonsensically executed by Lex Luther. Let's start out with the performances Batman is played incredibly by Ben Affleck (which is possibly the only good thing about this movie along with the visuals). Whereas Henry Cavil (who has been shown to be a good actor) sports the range of a spoon. This is the fault of David S Goyer and Zack Snyder to wrote and directed Superman to be as bland and boring as possible. And Lex f*cking Luther, my god, this is obviously just a poor attempt to cash in on his genius portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg in the excellent film The Social Network. Instead of feeling unhinged and meticulous, he just comes off as an idiot who couldn't talk his way out of a paper bag. And all the other great actors cast in this piece of crap are also acted dull and boring. The most emotion Amy Adams shows is when she yells that Martha is Superman's mother's name, which leads to one of the dumbest scenes ever put to film. What if one of their mothers wasn't named Martha, what if Batman already stabbed his brains out. It isn't smart, just dumb, and convenient. And then Batman and Superman become buddies, despite the fact that Batman was trying to kill his ass 15 minutes ago (which was how long the title fight was, the movie's name shouldn't be Batman v Superman, it should be Batman and Superman talk in rooms, separately, I love "talking" movies, just sell movies for what they are.) This leads to one of Batman's character issues. He kills, and this isn't about being "comic-accurate, it's about being interesting. Speaking of character issues, Superman, the hero who stands for light and hope, just mopes all-day until doomsday kills him. Again, this isn't about being "comic-accurate," characters who sit around feeling sorry for themselves until they get murdered are not interesting. This leads to the big final act, which turns the movie from semi-mediocre to full-on idiotic. Batman and Supes fight against a poorly rendered Doomsday. Oh and Wonder Woman is there. So then sci-fi bullsh*t, superman dies (not really), people cry, Batman pays for the funeral, Batman doesn't kill (finally), sequel set up crap. This movie was f*cked in the *ss from the beginning, it had to set up the dceu, Wonder Woman solo movie, the justice league (with a f*cking email scene), batman solo movie, superman sequel, the flashpoint paradox, and etc. It's easy to see how this movie ended up sucking. Snyder's approach is one of solemn reverence, showcasing comicbook characters in a mature and grounded fashion, not attempted before, (or since), on screen. The sheer emotional gravitas with which Snyder envisions the subject matter, and the complexity in his use of art and literary analysis, may not be palatable for the general audience, but pays homage to the some of the most iconic tales in the DC Universe, thus transcending to the status of cinema. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's the best CBM ever. I'll tell you why.

First of all, it does what the title says. God vs Human. Batman v Superman.
An alien who is trying to be good but everybody just keeps blaming him for damage he causes. All he is trying to do is live a normal life and then comes Bruce Wayne who is just amazing. Batman and Bruce Wayne, both show totally different personalities.

Also the movie introduces the hero girls were looking for. Wonder Woman!

Plus all those cameos and that Knightmare scene. So epic!

Lex is basically omnipotent because he learns everything off screen. Jessie Heisenburg + Zod = Doomsday? They try to rush justice league characters to play catch up with Marvel. Jessie Heisenburg as Lex Luthor is even worse than Jared Leto's joker... Oh and one last thing... Martha!!! Expand

Beautifully shot, it has some great action sequences and some incredible dramatic music, though if you enjoy a movie with an engaging story that isn’t convoluted or interrupted by aimless subplots, this may not be for you. Affleck and Cavill put up some solid performances, shame the characters they were portraying were meh at best (conversely, the antagonist Lex Luthor was pretty great but hindered by Eisenberg’s godawful performance). Would’ve been better if the movie tried to tell us a story of its own rather than cram a bunch of iconic story events from various comic books (TDKR, Death of Superman, etc...) even though it would be better if they were, you know, reserved for the FINALE of the DCEU instead of being rushed in its second film. The film editing is really awful. The cast are quite average (except for Ben Affleck) but Lex Luther is junk. Both in characterization and acting. The script is very weak. The final twenty minutes of the movie, Superman's funeral, is really over. Superman's death was completely wrong in this movie. Superman was killed in comics after many years while he had the right characterization and it made everyone cry. But Snyder killed him in his second film with an awful characterization and no one cried for him. Then you say we don't understand Zack Snyder? Have you ever read a comic book ??? If you had read, you would have known how he insulted the background of the character. He just stole their names and made a story from himself for them. Superman in comics is actually a sign of hope. But Snyder confused him with Christ Expand

Scene a little awkward, it's true, but so powerful by its symbolism and its consequence on the characters.

It is a gem.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is a disaster. An absolute disaster. It has everything! Plot-holes, bad direction, terrible pacing, dumb characters, a disaster of a story, mediocre to bad acting, and it ruined not one, not two, but THREE DIFFERENT COMIC STORIES! (Dark Knight Returns, Injustice and The death of Superman). Let's start from the beginning. Why does Superman and Batman fight in the movie? Superman has no reason to hate him at all in this movie, so he fights him because he needs to save his mother... What? Are they kidding? This is Superman's motivation to fight Batman in this movie? A cliche like that? So, instead of showing us how both Superman and Batman, despite both being crime fighters, have diverging ideologies and they clash due to one of them starting to act in really extreme ways and the other deciding to stop him for considering him dangerous, we are going to get a fight between two cardboard pieces where one is fighting because his mother is in danger, what a letdown and Batman motivation is even worse, he thinks Superman is a menace to mankind so he wants to exterminate him, which is stupid because Superman was on Earth for a long time, so how did Batman ignored all the good stuff he did on all of that time!? Isn't he one of the smartest men in the world and world greatest detective!? They turned such a memorable fight in the comics, into a forced and boring confrontation in the movies, which is unforgivable. Another thing the movie dropped the ball was Wonder Woman, I don't know what they were thinking, she was going to have her origin movie right next to this one! Why she needed to be here!? She adds nothing and she actually makes the movie worse, because at the end of the movie if it was only Batman and Superman against Doomsday, we would have the idea of the enemies now became allies to defeat a bigger evil, since they are the only people around to stop it, but with Wonder Woman there, this doesn't happen, and we also got a ridiculously easy and unclimactic end fight as a result, what a joke. Doomsday..... What the hell? They took a terrible character from the comics and made it worse, his creation makes no sense, his existence in the movie is almost random, his CG is terrible, he sucks while fighting, and the way he died was really stupid, a complete disaster of a character.
I could spend more time saying how the story had even more plot holes, how Lex Luthor character was terrible, all of the pacing problems, but I don't feel like it and even if I had, I doubt I would have space to write down all of this. 1/10. Terrible in every way imaginable.

The whole movie is a mess, nothing makes sense, it jumps from point to point without any rhyme or reason. Suddenly, without explanation, Batman is a cruel murderer and Superman is an out of touch god who cares more about his image than his duty to protect humanity. The movie does get one thing on the nose though and that is the US government's absolute distrust of any and all threats to its own power structure, the threat here being Superman, an all powerful alien that acts with impunity and without the oversight of a government to tell him what is "right" and what is "wrong". For a movie that calls itself Batman V Superman there is barley any of that in the movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Underrated by critics

Only hated because it doesn't spoonfeed you with a basic and formulaic plot like what has become the "Gold Standard" from Marvel Studios

Critics and general audiences went in with a want to hate this, because it was competition for the MCU. We saw it from the moment Ben Affleck was cast as Batman, and honestly he was fantastic

This is a movie that has blown everything the MCU has done out of water in terms of story, character development, acting, effects, score.

It introduced us to Wonder Woman, gave us a compelling Superman who struggled and questioned himself, which critics whined about because they were upset he wasn't just a brainless smiling goon saving cats from trees.

The Martha scene is another example of how stupid audiences and critics have gotten. Everyone acts like it was just "they became friends because their Moms had the same name". That is far from the truth. Clark had already realized Bruce refused to listen to him, so if he said 'save my mother' he had no way of knowing if Batman would care. And Bruce had no way of knowing the extent of Superman's powers, so for all he knew he had read his mind and was messing with him to save himself. That's why Bruce went into a rage screaming "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!"

When he found out it was Superman's mother's name when Lois put herself between Clark and the spear that was when Bruce realized how wrong he had been. You could see it in his eyes when he staggered back before angrily chucking the spear away. He had almost become the very thing he had spent his adult life fighting against. A monster who kills the innocent.

Vowing to save Martha Kent was his way to atone, to show that he was willing to make things right to make up for the mistake he had made judging Superman because of his own rage towards him.

The irony of people having a simplistic view of that scene is that they thought the plot-hole and plot-convenience bullcrap of Captain America: Civil War to reveal Bucky had killed Tony's parents was a good scene, when no matter how you look at it that scene was stupid compared to the Martha scene.

This film was fantastic and the Ultimate Edition was incredible. When the film was announced to have been 3 hours the same media who just this year gushed over the idea of a 3 hours Avengers: Endgame whined until WB forced Zack Snyder to chop 30 minutes off the runtime. Those 30 minutes ended up being important.

The theatrical cut was good, the Ultimate Cut was a masterpiece and like The Dark Knight nothing the MCU has will ever compare. No matter how much critics are overly critical of DC movies while using the lowest of bars to judge the MCU

This film is why I stopped caring what critics had to say about anything, especially seeing the high marks they gave to even the worst MCU movies

This movie is an underrated gem and those who love it will always be able to debunk the whiny complaints by people who only hate it because it's not the MCU

I loved how Wonder Woman appeared in it. My personal favorite scenes were these: the warehouse scene with Batman fighting all of Lex Luthors men it was great, another scene I loved is with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman fight Doomsday, just phenomenal. This scene is by far the best scene and best fight scenes I've seen in movies was of course the fight between Batman and Superman. It's such a good fight they both get beat up, I liked Batmans tactics with his smoke bomb and using his Kryptonite gun to weaken Superman I like Superman literally beating Batman up and tossing him everywhere it was just awesome! I liked the end of the fight as when Batman throws Superman down a whole balcony to the bottom level of the building and soon he grapples him and swings him, really damaging Superman, and as expected, Batman wins the fight and right at the end Bats gets his Kryptonite javelin and almost kills Supes when Supes says that "they're (Lexs men) are going to kill Martha Kent" who is Supes human mother and the name Martha is Bruce mothers name (Batman is obviously Bruce Wayne) and Bats yells at Supes and that to me was a touching scene as Batman had a tough childhood losing his parents and this scene makes you feel sorry for Batman. The actors who played these characters, phenomenal, every one fitted their role they were all great. I think Zack Snyder did a great job with this movie and I'm giving this movie a definite 9/10. Well Snyder is fan of Walking Dead that's fine, but please keep that for yourself that's not even a funny cameo and that does not make any sense. Same about Batman cast, Ben Affleck? I mean seriously? Even after all this Daredevil mess? Wes Bentley would be a good Batman but anyway in all this joke of a movie that's better for his career he wasn't cast. But if the movie only missed at this point, that would not be a huge mistake. The entire film was a total mess, just as Man of Steel was. No plot, ridiculous and cliché characters, pretty pathetic original score by overestimate Hans Zimmer and his fellow pal Tom Holkenborg, awful color treatment as for Man of Steel, boring CGI action and unscripted action sequences made this a total moron crap. Both Warner and Snyder definitely lose where Buena Vista literally lead on the market with the Marvel Universe. There's some good elements at some point but overwhelmed with high octane blockbuster action as it was a Dwayne Johnson movie or another Fast and Furious entry. I loved many pictures directed by Snyder before, his reboot on Dawn of the Dead was really fresh and Watchmen is definitely awesome, but since Man of Steel his filmography was utterly useless. I've keep ratings like 0 or 1 for Asylum productions but I've definitely got more nice moments on Sharknado 3 than this awful crap. I still can't believe this movie wasn't rated poorly as it deserved. Barely anything is unlikeable and a poor attempt to make some money against the Buena Vista unstoppable machinery. Expand
