It has all the ingredients to raise the bar from a simple comic book move to an all time classic. And then all those ingredients got into the wrong hands (whose wrong hands is a matter for debate), got chopped, blended, burned etc. and we ended up with this. So some people treat this movie as an enjoyable flick, while other and the critics are quite unhappy. On the surface, if you put your brain on pause, there is plenty of big budget action sequences and an OK enough plot. It is an OK action movie. Don't try to look for more though. None of it holds up to scrutiny or makes sense on a deeper level. There are awesome moments in this film. And there are stupid coincidences/contrivances that would stand out in a B movie. I particularly liked one of the dream sequences trying to recover the kryptonite . I would pay to see a movie that is just that, but with more of a story and a feature length. Ben Affleck makes a surprisingly good Batman, Jeremy Irons is a fun and interesting Alfred. Gal Gidot makes a fine wonder woman. Shame her character is completely 1 dimensional. But then, the same can be said for nearly all the characters in this movie.
Oh and the Batman Superman fight is pretty disappointing. Its completely one sided. Still better than the Doomsday fight which is an OP CG mess.

Brilliantly done film covering multiple themes concerning ourselves while still maintaining a simple enough plot to follow. The style is refreshing for a superhero film where superficial themes are usually explored.

In addition to this a lot of it is assumed or non nonsensical story telling. It deserved better.

Zack Snyder made great job.I really love the story and acting.Lex Luthor also was one of the best haracter in the movie and also I dont understant people that complain about him.He is different from what we have seen in the past but in good way.
Fight scene between Batmans vs Superman was great and emotional.Slow and not that epic, but thats why I love this scene.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice does what it says on the box. It's a shows the whole Justice League before the movie that's set to release in 2017. The movies does have areas where it excels, but as whole, considering this is a movie that has two of some of the biggest fictional characters in history, not exceptional. I am speaking as a fan of both Marvel and DC, and wanting both the MCU and the DCEU to succeed. This review will mostly be spoiler free, but I will label the areas that have a spoiler with a "SPOILER ALERT". I have seen this movie twice, so I can get a better judgement on the film.

Pros:
- Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons and Gal Gadot (as brief as she is in this movie) do amazingly well portraying Batman/Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth and Wonder Woman/Diana Prince respectively. They do their characters justice (pun intended?)
- The fight scenes. The fight between Batman and Superman and the warehouse scene especially. Brilliant choreography with Batman.
- Bruce Wayne's perspective on the events in Man of Steel. It kind of humanizes those events. Makes them feel more grounded.

Cons:
- Too many different stories. You have a Batman story, a Superman story, a Batman and Superman story, a bit of a Justice League origin story. And story telling does feel a little messy (SPOILER ALERT especially with the dream sequences).
- Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. In the comics Lex Luthor is a person so charismatic and charming while also extremely manipulative, methodical and intelligent, all of these traits which lead him to become President. Even if WB isn't going down the same route, I don't see this Lex Luthor becoming President. Not to mention his plan is a little convoluted.
- The reason for the conflict between the two heroes. The reason why Batman and Superman end up fighting could of been solved if they just talked it out. (SPOILER ALERT! Lex kidnaps Superman's mother and threatens to kill her unless Superman kills Batman).
- Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, while great, feels a little shoehorned in the movie.
- Henry Cavill's Superman. I get that it's a more dark and gritty Superman, but he doesn't feel inspirational, and he hardly cracks a smile when he is Superman. I'm not expecting Christopher Reeve's level of smiles and happiness, but for example when there's a montage of him saving people, he doesn't smile or give reassurance once. I don't think this is Cavill's problem, probably more the script or the direction. Not to mention that he seems a little brutal. For example, in the beginning of the movie, Lois is taken hostage by a terrorist, Superman confronts him and then end ups tackling him through 2 walls.

In conclusion, I find that Batman v Superman wasn't great, it was mediocre which is disappointing. This is all JUST MY OPINION, but I'd say to just wait until it's on SBO or something.

Batman V Superman is by no means a bad movie at all. The pacing and scene composition is messy but everything else is as good as it could have been. Great acting, fantastic VFX and camerawork. Fantastic set-up for the Justice League in 2017

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman V Superman isn't necessarily the greatest superhero movie of all time but yet it isn't that atrocious as most people say. The movie played in a very fast pacing, jumping from one event to the other. And the fight of Batman and Superman was probably the biggest disappointment of the movie, i mean for three years WB has been promoting this movie and making amazing trailers, and when the movie finally came out it ended up to be a 8 minute fight with a very quick conclusion, as a comic fan i expected an all put 15-20 minute brawl between the two.

Personally i think the movie had more upsides than downsides, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot portrayed Wonder Woman and Batman in a perfect way showing all aspects of both characters. The Introducing scene was played very well as you get to see the Superman- Zod fight in Bruce Waynes point of view. The build up in the film that lead to the reveal of the Justice league members was a good approach that WB took in order to give fans an idea about Ezra Millers flash and Ray Fishers Cyborg looked like. The final battle scene with Doomsday was very nice for me as a comic fan, as it contained the three main members of the league and showing off each of their abilities.

Overall Batman V Superman was an okay movie, don't get me wrong i'm not saying it's an amazing film that was flawless, i'm just saying that it wasn't as atrocious as most people believe it to be. Hopefully Warner Bros and DC can learn from the Mistakes of this Film and not have them in the upcoming Justice League film.

It starts out brilliantly and very compelling. As soon as the climax makes it's appearence, the film disintegrates like it was blown out of a fire. It's lazy writing is a huge example of that; it doesnt't have a balanced storyline. Lets just say that the entire movie was a setup for a sequel -- that's how bad the writing was.

The film does have some positive factors. Ben Affleck portrayal as Bruce Wayne/Batman was excellent. He truely demonstrated that his Daredevil performance has been forgotten and demolished. Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman was fine. Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman was fine.

This is a good-looking film; but not a good film in general.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film easily stands appove most of the superhero movies we ve seen over the last 8 years, the comedy/action flicks have always bored me it didnt work for green lantern and i see franchises like the avengers to be no differnt. The scripts and narratives of such movies have lacked in any complexity and the heros have always come accross as comedians who cant take anything seriously even death, it is a releif to see DC taking their new cinimatic universe seriously with compelling narratives and deep emotional characters.

Im giving the film 10 although i think its more 8-9 just beacuse of the truly unfair bias critics who would rate this film 1 star and leave comments such as "not as fun as the avengers".

and to the ppl who say humor is how soldiers act in warzones or surgeons duing operations as i have heard a number of times i want to inform them that, that is not true. A soldier does not joke about while taking fire and having freinds killed around him or a surgeon doesnt think of the snappiest one liner while the patient is bleeding out infront of them, humor has a place in films and BVS showed that side of the heros once the main fight was concluded(spoilers) lulling the audience into a more lighthearted sense of mind then delivering the earth shattering DOS narrative, a plot point which i feel was used perfectly to represent the pivot point in sorcieties opinion of superman and gives a compelling reason to why ordinary ppl would accept a godlike being as their saviour.

They showed me that the world only makes sense when you force it to". This phrase encapsulates Batman's worldview and is very similar to the psychology of Niccolo Machiavelli. This is essentially what our culture has become. In this postmodern world, it is encouraged to view life through a selfish lens rather then lens from our creator and Savior. This worldview is consistently thrown into movies, music, and art as a way to lead us astray from what the Word of God says which is the only truth. As a Bible believing Christian and follower of God, I view life as a created being of God who was made to honor him here on Earth. God makes it clear in scripture how he sees the world and how we should live in it. In the book of Genesis, God makes this declaration. “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground” (NIV). The human body is after God’s image only as being the means whereby man gains dominion over the Earth. God first saw us as the rulers of his perfect creation. After the fall, our purpose was regained through Jesus Christ. He declares in Matthew 16:24-26, “Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? Christ is calling us as humans to follow him and live a life that honors and glorifies him rather than ourselves which is polar opposite of what Batman is preaching. Jesus Christ intended our lives and our Christian walk to be in direct correlation to the life he lived rather than what we think we make life to be. Expand

It has a mixture of cultures within different scenes. Sometimes they can pop a joke or two while trying to be intense at the same time. The mixture creates an enjoyable atmosphere. In other cases they try to keep the action pact scenes while staying with the dramatic atmosphere.

Going into the movie you should know some lore that comes with both the Superman series and the Batman series but little information is needed to keep up because the lore is explained fairly well. The scene where batman views other Justice League future members is explained at the end of the movie with the conversation Batman has with Wonder Woman. Although the further details will hopefully be explained in future movies the broad area of the Justice League is mentioned.

After every scene throughout the movie left me on the edge of my seat and hoping the movie didn’t end there. Even after the dramatic ending I wanted to delve into the mind of the screen writers and the director to see what would happen next. The action scenes were well developed and used the correct amount of realistic-looking special effects. Some movies go over the top on the Special effects and make the action scenes seem corny and Batman vs. Superman didn’t seem to have that affect.

Overall Batman vs. Superman is a good start-up movie and seems to hold a promising future toward the upcoming Justice League series. The scene build is intense with a good mixture of genres. It seems to have more of an open genre name and shouldn’t be held to just the fantasy and science fiction genre. The lore within the movie is explained well and hopefully will be elaborated on further in the story line. This movie is given 9/10 stars on my scale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I rather say that this is neither Batman or Superman as we know them (comics wise). I have never so far seen a guy who's profile is all about enduring and the personification of justice and brilliance break by a single neck breaking. It is soo first world problem, losing sight of justice just because he took a hard decision (killing Zod). I mean, doesn't need to be something bigger in order to crack the character?
Same thing with Bats, Jason Todd didn't change Bats and neither the frustrations that bring Gotham City. It was growing old an watching how Luthor took over the US and some heroes along (Dark knight returns). But not here. He outlived his usefulness and by far. For instance: Can you imagine a guy like Batman sending an email asking Wonder Woman who she is? Is Snyder expecting us to believe that Batman is soo stupid that it never connected the criminal he was chasing in the first place, with the Cryptonite who was going to Luthor, and the fact that he IN THE MIDDLE OF METROPOLIS had his company taking over the technology from the same foreign aliens who swore to take care of?

Forget about editing, music, acting and everything else. In the end we see more character development in a 1 hour cartoon movie. A stupid and mediocre detective and a big powerful whinny Criptonian. Sadly it doesn't look like they are going to fix it, because even at the end of the movie the characters were moved away from the traits that we all love.

Batman v Superman is not a good movie by any means, but not an entirely bad movie by any means. It lands somewhere in the middle between decent and average. But let me go over the major problems in this movie. First of all, Batman andBatman v Superman is not a good movie by any means, but not an entirely bad movie by any means. It lands somewhere in the middle between decent and average. But let me go over the major problems in this movie. First of all, Batman and Superman have very vague reasons for wanting to fight each other, and when they do, it only lasts a couple of minutes. Second, Wonder-woman and Doomsday are awfully shoehorned in for the last 10 minutes of the movie, making the movie not Batman v Superman, but Wonder-woman, Superman and Batman v Doomsday. Really Zack? But the movie has heaps of redeeming features. Firstly, Ben Affleck did a great job as Batman, kudos to him. Also, the action scenes are spectacular, like in Man Of Steel. And Eisenberg did a great job playing a psychotic Lex Luthor. It's very hard to come to a concrete decision on this movie, but I, reluctantly, would say that this movie is worth seeing, but not worth buying. My final verdict on this movie is average/decent. Snyder, though known for delivering flops, hit the ball out of the park with BvS:DoJ. I loved the film. I was entirely entertained, never felt the plot to be confusing, overly-fast nor contrived, and the acting was stellar, even in the case of the usually stoic and robotic Henry Cavill. The negative reviews for this film are in no way deserved, and even though the box office returns may have Warner Bros. worried, I as a fan am extremely excited for all the upcoming entries in the DC Universe.

8/10 only due to a few moments where Snyder (typically) over-used the slow motion effects and a few scenes that felt cut short. I'm amped for the release of the 3-hour Director's Cut this summer, as I believe almost all of the flaws to this otherwise fantastic movie will be resolved once Snyder has been given the ability to tell his story without the Studio's demand of a run-time or rating which would expand the audience.

Superman is once again presented as messiah-like piece of cardboard, even though Cavill's performance is good he just cannot sell an uninteresting superman. Batman is another character that the writers just seemed to have missed. What was a once a moral superhero with a strict no kill, no guns code is now a morally grey kill happy madman. Ben Affleck does well with what he has been given but again the character is just not right. Lex Luthor is another character who is completely wrong. Eisenberg's portrayal is more in line with the Joker than it is with Lex Luthor. All in all the characters have just missed the point of what made them so great. The story is also a case of too many cooks spoil the broth. Too many ideas here clash with each other and therefore make the film a chore to get through. Overall the acting is good and visually the film looks great with many great set pieces and uses of special effects but the story is just too uninteresting and the characters are far too unlikable for this movie to be called anything other than mediocre. But I had to see this film being the superhero nerd that I am and especially with all the discussion surrounding it...and like most things in life, the hype doesn't live up to expectations. I don't mean the hype of BvS, I mean the hype that the media used to get you to click on their pages with headlines like "Critics Slam BvS". There's nothing significantly wrong with this film. It's entertaining, feels realistic, paced well, and not dumbed down. I could see ratings in the 7-9 range being the most accurate. I decided on a 9 since 8.5 isn't an option. There's little things here and there that are a little silly (a blinking location tracker for instance that you wouldn't want to blink if you're trying to keep it hidden from the bad guys and so on) but again, nothing too out of sorts. It did take me awhile to warm up to Jesse's portrayal of Lex, but the movie built his character up as the film went on with little phrases that were easy to miss, yet made his character much more believable. I was also worried about any Lex being in another Superman film, but this style of Lex (almost like Ledger's Joker) was much more cruel, conniving, and brilliant. He was much more of a real adversary to Superman than Kevin Spacey ever was. Anyway, I am pumped about the DC universe and even though I stopped buying Blu Rays a long time ago, I am purchasing this film. Lastly, I will say that one possible divisive part of the movie (that I enjoy but could see turning off casual viewers) was that the easter eggs (if that's what you want to call them) weren't just little things in the background or little verbal quips, they were more direct and up front, which could confuse those who don't know the DC universe and its famous stories over the years. But again, being a superhero nerd, I thought that part of the film was awesome and felt like someone was finally making a movie for me. Expand

I'll get right to the point with this movie as I've been eagerly waiting for its release for almost 3 whole years.

It's a decent superhero movie, but it's still a mile away from a genuine breakthrough. Dawn of Justice is undeniably dark and thrilling at some points, with some eye-popping visuals and a bit of mystery scattered here and there. However, it is also pretty much unfocused on a narrative aspect, with uneven character development and a pacing that's out of control as its villains. People said this film is too dark which is not to everyone's taste, but that's not the actual case. Being dark is not an excuse for being humorless. Even the slightest part of humor found in this movie feels satirical and awkward.
Take a look at Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. The trilogy is very bleak as well, but it has a far more structured story, fascinating characters ( which often came with a thought-provoking backstory ) and some humor that balances it. Not to mention the philosophy behind the movies are so rich and relatable that it's still hotly debated even until this day.
Dawn of Justice certainly dwells on the philosophical elements, but most of the time it's only hinted and briefly brought up, instead of providing any take on morality that would have pondered in a viewer's mind long after they watched it. Also, Snyder's vision of Superman, while still refreshing, is totally out of character and worse, derivative of the brutal Batman in some ways ( there's even an article that writes about this issue). Conversely, Ben Affleck's raged Batman stands out as the movie's real strength.

In short, Dawn of Justice is an ambitious effort from Zack Snyder that aims to be both a golden breakthrough of superhero films and a gritty, thought-provoking crime thriller that takes on social issues. However, at the end of the day, we're still left with the ultimate truth - justice is far from dawning, yet.

In my opinion there is too much destruction in this movie, which was one of the major problems I had with Man of Steel as well. Also the dialog including Batman was too flat for my taste.
One of the major points I have to criticize is the frequent appearance of references to comic books (flashbacks for example). Those might be fun for people that are really involved in the universe but I find them generally (and that might be due to my lack of knowledge) confusing and in this movie in particular annoying as well.

Affleck best batman ever on screen.
WW the short time she was on screen she is perfect, cant wait for Wonder Woman movie.
Henry could have used more diaglogue but his acting game has stepped up alot!
Eisenberg is what people also dont understand, he is the son of Lex Luthor, only at the end of the movie the Lex we know is born. He has the knowledge of Darkseid coming and even in the movie he says "Books are knowledge and knowledge is power" Doomsday could have done better, felt like a meat shield but that is not a bad thing, just saying it could have been better.

This movie made me very excited for the upcoming DCEU (DC Extended Universe). And I cant wait for the directors cut in July.

Before I start rambling I must state that I have never read any DC comics or a fanboy of Marvel, however both I grew up with super man and batman animation and both heroes are a significant part of my childhood. (sigh...)

Here I go, as a superhero movie I think this movie is good. I love the action scenes, and props to Zack Snyder for some of the best imagery from the recent spew of superhero movies. While I first cringed at Affleck being Batman, I think he is a better Bruce Wayne than Bale in the Dark Knight. While it pains me to say, as a movie lover, Batman Vs Superman failed as a normal movie due to its bizarre story telling.

While superheros movies these days make a big deal of bait the audience of the next sequel, by setting up future characters in their movies, what Batman Vs Superman did was just confusing. Flashbacks, dream sequences, time traveling characters, and barrage of endless confusing exposition. Not to mentions the gaping plots holes, personally is it very difficult for me to get invested in the movie. The flimsy motives of our Heroes' fight as well as Joker Jr. ( Opps, I meant Lex Luther Jr.) weird logic for hating Superman is so odd. If I want to be knitpick-y I would go over my character limit. BUT the point is, while there are definitely great moments, I'm reminded by the many many things that were wrong with this movie.

I understand that DC comic fans may hold this movie dear to their heart, but this film despite awesome moment is very flawed. If I don't google the weird dream sequences and time traveling parts, this movie would have made way less sense. While fans may claim superheroes movies are made for them, the majority of said movie watcher are not comic book fans. While it is difficult for a movie to be good, it is not difficult for a movie to make sense to the public. While I would not watch this movie again, I do not hate this movie. I'm just disappointed.

The first time I watched it I felt it was heavy, "as a tank driven with a crank-set" I said when I left the theater; the second time was smoother. Now I'm craving for a third.
Is it a fun movie? Not at all. Is it a good movie? I still don't know. Is it a generative movie? We'll see. Is it a movie you should watch? Yes, definitely; even if you've never read a single comic book. This movie appeals to the deeply rooted knowledge that we have for just living in this era.
Fascism, authoritarianism, discrimination, distrust and the decay of the modern world; but also the hope of redemption in unity and justice.
This movie is a surprising feature in it's own, watch it just because it exists and, most of all, because you will be amazed for it's beautiful cinematography. Every shot is a picture you could frame.
As I heard a critic quoting Man of Steel "'They'll race behind you. They will stumble. They will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun", that's what this movie is about". I hope that this is what this movie will mean.

The one downside, though, is that is is 2h and 31m in runtime. Go see it now, it's one you should not miss out on, or you'll feel really ashamed that you missed it when you had the chance. All of those critics saw a screening together, and then got together, stuck up their noses, and wrote bad reviews because they think they are too sophisticated for the ultimate superhero fantasy. But i admit that it did feel rushed and the editing could have been done better, its clear that this movie had a lot more footage footage that could've have helped people understand the plot more without needing parts of it explained to them. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is really just a victim of its studios decision to make it 2hrs 30mins long.

Batman v superman is an excellent movie that might just be beyond its time it is filled with symbolism the makes up for the rushed feeling of the movie.

Generally good performances, particularly liked Affleck's interpretation of Wayne/Batman. However, too many characters were underused and there are too many fleeting references that not everyone will get. Overall, it felt like the film was trying to cram too much in despite the 150 minute running time and the story and flow of the movie suffered as a result. My biggest gripe was the same problem I had with Man of Steel. A good start, a good middle but an over elaborate, CGI borefest at the end that goes on a bit too long. Expand

Snyder in the "Batman v Superman", perhaps, reached the pinnacle of his mythmaking work. In the "300" he has mostly stylized the "West-East" mythical dichotomy. In the "Watchmen" he has deconstructed modern
mythological pantheon of comics' pseudo-pagan "deities". However in the "Man of Steel", and in the "300" sequel Zack has not simply played with a myths, but has tried to turn a myths into effective tool to represent
to mass audience real political problems and the genuine myth.

Mythology, long driven underground by rationalism and forced to act using guerrilla methods, appearing in popular culture in the forms of a "scientific" evolutionism, a "scientific" communism and racism, pacifism, humanism and democracy, nihilism and relativism, religious rites, is now boldly enters the scene through the comic book heroes, reviving the pagan pantheon.

Zack has used this modern manifestation of mythology as means to achieve something bigger. Although Christian symbolism was quite timid in the "Man of Steel", pulled into the myth by smuggling, the question of price of democracy in the sequel of "300" sounds quite vocally. But the new "Superman" audio-visually claims to be a complete mythological picture of the world - stunning spectacle with "grim realism" connected with excellent music and an explicitly referenced to the passion of Christ. Here we can see theodicy - "if God is all powerful, why does he allow evil?" - and allusions to rejection of Christ, His sacrifice, perversion of good and evil in today's world, demons putted in the place of angels, the fall of the world, which declared that "God is dead" and summoned demons under the guise of humanitarianism, to an unprecedented evil, hope for good and resurrection, and even the new Saul - Paul - embodied in Batman. Politics is not circumvented in the movie too: here is your "useful idiot" depicted by Holly Hunter, who believes in stuff like that good and evil are determined through dialogue, and here is degeneration of democracy into the rule of mob, regulated like a stream of water at the tap by mass media.

So, we have a full-grown modern myth, and it is pointless to try to criticize a myth from the standpoint of logic - a myth is not based on logical constructs, but on facts and imagination. A myth is a holistic view of reality, not its analytical description. Thus negative critical reviews looks ridiculous - whether those critics are furious because of Christian symbolism, or because of satirizing depicture of the left-liberal useful idiots - they are trying to deconstruct an audiovisual concept on words and letters which are not there, claiming a violation of rules of construction of non-existent sentences. Myths are immune to such kind of criticism, and the critics only expose themselves to be fools, set out to chop up the wind.

Snyder was able to deliver what he wanted to with his myth - he took advantage of modern mythology to undermine its own pagan foundations, dragging in it and actualizing Christianity with its complex ontological questions and insisting on the absolute good and evil, contrary to the beliefs in "dialogue" by left-liberal useful idiots. All these are contained in a beautiful, fascinating mythological form, realistic, gloomy, dynamic and visually stunning. With great score and a wonderful selection of actors - cynical Affleck, ironic Irons, detached Cavill, natural Adams, convinced Eisenberg and antic cold Gadot - all are in their due places.

It literally was too much to take it in.. Luckily for me I saw this before the critics barrage of low reviews. Having no influence I was able assess my own conclusions.. Having seen the movie multiple times now I've come to the conclusion that I love this movie more with each viewing..
Let's start with the negatives:
Pacing/Editing - Notice this right away. The movie at times jumps around lot. Some scenes aren't fleshed out , while some do drag.. You can tell right away that many scene were cut to get this movie under 3hrs..

Now for the positives:
Cast is great , I don't care what anyone say I loved this cast , they all did a great job. The interpretations of the characters fit for the movie & where we are at in the DCEU. I think its crazy for many to complain about these characters (specifically Bats & Supes) when the characters arc isn't even complete in this universe.Patience !. I dug Lex , yea he was annoying at times , but that was the point ... He was one of the best Villains we seen in in the last 6 yrs in any Comic Book Movie.. the fact that we finally have a villain that actually acts like a Super Villain, it was a pleasure to see the bad guy actually bring our heroes to their knees.. Gal didn't have much to work with but on screen she became Wonder Women, loved the look the accent , looking forward to her movie..Batfleck was great best onscreen batman & I'm a big fan of Keaton's.. Cavil again played Supes well , can't wait to see him in JL

Story- I loved this story & the world building.. Many people complain, yes it's a lot to take in , But I give them Kudos for such a big ambitious story .. The level of detail , research put into this movie was great..This is a movie you must watch multiple times as you will find yourself noticing something new every time.. It was refreshing not watching your traditional CBM , a movie that actually forces you to pay attention, as there are many subplot to go along w/ the central plot.. It doesn't hold your hand or any bars, you won't be spoon-fed. The 1st half of the movie plays out much like a Thriller / Drama.. Each scene is imperative to the story, each piece of dialogue will tell you exactly what you need to know ( actions, motives, characteristics)

action - Typical Synder , its his strong point ..it's awesome , from the opening to the end, each action scene is straight from the pages of a comic book ..yes the CGI is shotty in some spots , but what CBM isn't ..

It's fine that many didn't like the movie, but i think people should give it another chance. It really is something we never saw before in the CBM universe.. Yes, it jumps around, yes, unless your a big comic book fan some scenes you probably won't get.. But that's what makes it fun (to me at least), It keeps the movie fresh as you will find yourself doing research after you watch BvS..

I need to establish this right now: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is NOT a bad movie.
Becoming one of the most controversial movies very quickly, Batman V Superman does a lot of things well, and a lot of things wrong. Luckily I have more pros and cons, but the cons are still there, so let's talk about the good parts first. Ben Affleck NAILED it as Bruce Wayne, Henry Cavill was an.. alright Superman, and Gal Gadot was a great Wonder Woman. I did feel like the movie was less fun, but it made it all the more AWESOME to watch. The dark and bruting Superman screwing with the mind of Bruce Wayne was interesting to see, and the rivalry between the two was entertaining to watch. However, let's get into the cons. Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was a very poor choice, as the actor was very stupid and unentertaining rather than hysterical and insane. Plus, the first hour of the movie was a lot of unneeded exposition, but I didn't mind the rest. However, Doomsday looked absolutely terrible, and is easily the worst part of this movie. Overall, Batman V Superman isn't a bad movie, but it isn't a fantastic movie either. If you ever watch this movie, don't go into this movie with high expectations; if you do, you won't like this movie. I personally thought it was alright.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice gets a 6/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman is a film worth seeing. But beautiful action and choreography sadly do not cover up a very week story with more holes than a sieve.
What Batman v Superman does well it excels at, the action is amazing, with scenes from Ben Affleck being a highlight, but sadly that does not make up for a story that was going no where, which is a shame as this film has so much potential.
For example, the whole film was geared up to be a massive showdown between two titans of the superhero world, and yet the fight only lasted seven minutes, and was resolved in a very cheap manner.
But, as mentioned before the movie does have its bright points. Ben Affleck as Batman was a particular highlight. He may not have been the strongest Bruce Wayne, but he was by far and between a stellar Batman. He was cruel, calculated and efficient as Batman in every sense of the word.
The soundtrack for this film was amazing. Despite the fact that not every scene was strong, there was no denying that every scene was well supported by an amazing accompaniment.
This movie is far from perfect. but what it does well, it does very well.

As far as stories go I really enjoyed it. It was a nice and fresh approach with lots of great action moments.
To be quite honest I'm looking forward to seeing more of this Batman more than anything else. I couldn't care much for the upcoming Suicide Squad with that generic thug-looking Joker, but Batman v Superman was a great watch. Yes this Batman is very different, so is the Lex, but why does different have to be so bad? They still stuck to the core of the characters, and that's what matters.
I would recommend this to any Batman or Superman fan and life-long comic book readers.

Wooow big deal. This movie is possibly one of the greatest super hero movies ever (right up there with the DKT). After my first viewing of it sure I was a little disappointed (and kinda depressed), but this movie takes a little time. After I saw it the second time a few weeks later I was like damn. This movie accomplished so much and is extremely deep on so many levels. After watching it for the second time I cleared up some plot holes that I left the theater with previously. Also this movie completely puts Marvel to shame as it is sooo much more than nice looking action and comedy relief. There is a point to it and brings up questions in the audience of religion, corrupt power, and how exactly do superheroes fit into our world. Expand

This movie was horrendously disappointing and over all a mediocre film. Pros: Bruce Wayne/Batman, Action, Cinematography. Cons: Overuse of CG, Superman, Lex Luthor, The Plot/Story, Writing, Script, 2 Hours of dumb crap basically.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was it good? Maybe. Batman V Superman is not a bad movie even though there are many bad reviews about it. There are not many jokes (which makes it kind of somber) but the story is still sort of good. One of the problems was the way the Batman V Superman fight ended. I do not believe that just because their mothers share the same name they should stop the biggest action scene of the movie. It was ridiculous. Another problem was that it took extremely long for any real action to start. I'm not saying that the first hour or so of the movie is boring, but it definitely isn't exciting. However, when there was action, it was pretty good. Overall, I think the movie was okay, but it definitely could have been better. Expand

I'm just going to say it: I loved this movie. I don't know why people give it such a low score. This movie wasn't bad. I don't know why people give it such a low score. This movie wasn't bad. Maybe because people nowadays are accustomed to the formula of Marvel movies that this movie, to them, seems boring; but I assure you, it's not.

The first half of the film is a tense political drama about whether or not the world needs Superman, while the second half of the film shows us that it doesn't need just Superman, but also the rest of the superheroes. Yes, the movie is dark as compared to Marvel's, but to me it's a wonderful change of pace. I always praised DC's comics because they're so much darker, so much close to reality. It leads you to think, to reflect, and to question your morals. That's what this movie does.

Although, I do agree that up to the end of the film, there is a TON of CGI, but we kinda already expected that judging from the trailer.

In my opinion, if you read particular Batman or Justice League comics, you'd know that there are a lot of references to them in the film. Comic books such as The Dark Knight Returns, and Injustice have heavy references here. There are particular scenes that really come from these books, and for me it makes these movies better if you have knowledge of the comic books that they were influenced by. It's like the director or the writers giving you a little wink whenever these scenes pop up with these little references.

Overall, I enjoyed this film. I think Ben Affleck did a great job as Batman, and I never really liked Henry Cavill as Superman, but he did a better job here, for me, than he did in Man of Steel. I look forward to seeing more films with Ben Affleck as Batman.

This is a flim of lofty ideas that are only superficially explored, meaning that the emotional impact of key moments, and the themic pathos that should have manifested itself, became a string of lost opportunities. Batfleck, Wonder Woman, and Superman are indivudually well conceived and the performances are solid, but the lack of structural cohesion in the storyline means that the overarching story arcs don't intertwine with any kind of elegance, leaving the audience feeling unsatisfied. A film which cost this much, and took this much extra time, shouldn't look cheap or feel disjointed, yet that is what we have. It's not actually a 'bad film', but it's not a good one. Expand

Don't believe the negative reviews, go and see this great movie made by a comic book fan for comic book fans; You won't be disappointed. Odds are that when you think of the word "superhero," one of these two is the first to pop into your head. So placing them both in a movie together where they have their long awaited big-screen clash? How could that be anything other than AMAZING?

Evidently, like this.

Let me preface this right here and right away: yes, I would consider myself a Marvel fan more than I would a DC fan, but that does not mean I don't love DC stuff too. Batman is one of my favourite heroes, The Dark Knight is one of my favourite movies ever, and I found a lot of enjoyment in Man of Steel, the divisive precursor to Batman V Superman. I just happen to like Marvel's stuff more, but that doesn't make me any less of a DC fan. I wanted to see this movie be successful so, SO badly. Unfortunately, it was not to be.

Let me first get the things I liked out of the way. Ben Affleck as Batman was a great choice, and he kills it in the role. He is easily the best part of the movie. His motivation for wanting to take down Superman, unlike many other things in this movie, make perfect sense, and we're given that in a brilliant opening scene which shows exactly why the rule of "show, don't tell" is so important.

I was also surprised by Gal Gadot, who was also well cast as Wonder Woman. Make no mistake, she is NOT in this movie for very long. But when she is, and when she and Bruce are playing off each other, it's hard not to be glued to your seat. If nothing else, I'm pumped to see her movie.

And finally, say what you want about Zack Snyder, but the man can create a comic book world like no one else in the industry. Many directors can adapt a comic book, but only Zack Snyder has the vision and direction to make a movie look like an actual comic book coming to life.

As for what I didn't like? Honestly, almost everything else.

I was okay with Henry Cavill's portrayal of Superman in MoS, because he was just getting started. It was a Superman on his first days, so it made sense that he wouldn't be sure of himself, that he would have conflict, that he would be more brooding. In HERE, though, there was no excuse. Superman was JOYLESS throughout this entire movie. What makes the dynamic of Batman and Superman so engaging is that they're opposite sides of the same coin. One is pessimistic and grounded in reality, and the other is unwaveringly optimistic and believing in the best of humanity. At the same time, both are unwaveringly driven and committed, and no matter what happens that might test them or lead them astray, they always rise to the challenge and stand their ground. Here though, BOTH of them are miserable and pessimistic all the time. With Batman it's fine, he's known to not be the most jolly fellow out there. But SUPERMAN? Humanity's symbol of hope and what we all hope we can be as good as? I don't think he smiles once during this entire movie, and he spends most of his time complaining about how ungrateful everyone is.

I was one of the people who defended Jessie Eisenberg's casting as Lex Luthor. The guy is a great actor, and he has played similar roles in the past, maybe he would surprise us. Well, to all the naysayers out there, I concede; Jessie Eisenberg was horribly miscast. I have no idea what the hell this performance was supposed to be, but it felt more like The Riddler than anything else.

This one is a bit hard to explain, but the movie had no flow. No scene ever felt like it led into the next one. Basic storytelling 101 is cause-and-effect. This happens, which makes this happen, which makes this happen. Here, every scene just sort of STOPS, and then a new scene just STARTS, with minimal to zero connection between the two. It made the story much harder to follow, and the constantly baffling logic, plot holes, and pointless sub-plots were already making that a challenge. It's funny how in a movie that's 2 and a half hours long, it feels like it's overstuffed AND it needs more at the same time.

The final act is a complete train wreck. The title fight itself, while surprisingly short, was fine enough, and it did have a few legitimately awesome moments. But after the soon-to-be infamous "Martha" moment, the movie just collapses in on itself. The orgy of nonsensical CG and destruction that ensues in the closing minutes of this film surpass even that of the Transformers movies. The big bad reveal at the very end is just hideous. It looks like a troll from LOTR, but somehow WORSE.

I wanted to love this movie, I really did. And for the first 10 minutes or so, it held a lot of promise. But this is, simply put, a poorly made, HORRIFICALLY edited movie that took the poorer elements of MoS, and somehow AMPLIFIED them. It's easy to make the comparison to Marvel, but it's the truth: this is just a rushed attempt by WB to do in 2 movies what Marvel did in 6. Only the most hardcore DC fans will enjoy themselves. Otherwise, rent it if you absolutely need to

It explores ideas and belief systems. Unfortunately nuances may be lost on an audience that is not accustomed to debate. In theology, something as simple as an Iota can make a world of difference. People act, react, and sometimes redirect the entire course of their lives based on simple nuances. Man of Steel had wonderful references to Plato’s Republic. This film also had instances requiring the audience to think from a foreign point of view. That is necessary for one to truly understand the significance of events. Some people may not like this film. There are those who want things to be exactly like they were in the comics, and that is understandable. There are those who want things to be more light hearted, that is also very understandable. The movie is not perfect, and there are some who just may not like it. I have a deep concern for those who cannot comprehend it though. The proletariat, who don’t even know how deeper thinking works, will miss out on some even deeper meanings that are in the film. This film caused me to laugh, cry, and think. The acting was wonderful. I have very few complaints. It is the best film I have seen in years. Expand

Opening credits show the Waynes death. Not much to say about that except please let it be the last time ( Also did you know Batmans mums name is Martha, it's super important). The movie starts of with a bang. Watching the new Bruce Wayne ( you know Ben Affleck plays him) run through the city as Man of steel rages above him is genuinely cool. It gives credence to why Batman has a grudge against this guy who in part was responsible for the destruction of a city and how he was personally effected by what happened at Wayne tower. The scene did have a weird bit where apparently the employees would not evacuate unless Bruce said so, this leads me to assume Wayne industries has some really strict employment rules but whatever. After this the film nose dives into over an hour incoherently strung together scenes which set out about five sub plots which the films struggles to wrestle together until Lex Luthor blows up the senate and shouts go beat up Batman. Whatever happened in Africa is forgotten about the debate about what is the role of Superman becomes obsolete, as everyone in the film who cared about that plot died. The titular bout ends up being forced. Any reason to why superman would really want to take on Batman is thrown out as soon as his mum is captured by Lex and Batman is never shown to be a character who people think can take superman. Going into the film I expected a a build up through out the film where people are almost arguing like kids on a play ground to who would win in a fight, Superman or the myth that is Batman. Instead Batman is mostly ignored by everyone in the movie with any mention of his name being met with disinterest. No one was contemplating that the crime fighter from Gotham could be the one who goes toe to toe with a god, but that what kryptonite is for I guess. Despite this, as far as fight choreography goes Zach Snyder knows what he is doing. The fight is easy to follow epic in feel and ended by the word Marther. That kind of cuts short would should have been a longer fight. It should also be noted that this is not a Superman film, it is a Batman film. Why no one can make a Superman without giving most of the attention to either Lois or another supporting character is beyond me, but most of the time is spent with a very grumpy Bruce Wayne. Ben Affleck does a fine job in the role but he is not playing Batman. The interpretation of his character kills, he brands people, he shoots guns. Gone is the morale compass and determination to not become just another criminal that 75 years of comics has given us. What left is a character from watchmen, it's a brutal interpretation of the icon which I wouldn't mind so much if this wasn't what we were getting in what is going to be the definitive set of DC films. Superman is left with less screen time to be grumpy and literally has a bomb go off in his face when his time to talk comes, which is frustrating as Henry Cavill needs his time to shine as the Character and just is not been given a lot to do. Lois Lane is shoe horned in wherever possible to try and keep the many threads of the plot in the air, however for all the screen time she gets I feel her part could be cut from the film and nothing much would change. Congratulations to Gal Gadot, who despite being barely in this film made me excited for Wonder Woman. More on the last fight in a bit but without saying much at all she stood out as a great character. The villains of this film are a weak point on what was already very thin ice. Jesse Eisenberg must have been told to act like a cross between the Riddler and Mark Zuckerberg so can't blame him for the result but seriously it was bad. In this universe where all the heroes seem to be in need of anti depressants, I hope they don't make the same trend of all villains being pulled straight out of Looney tunes. The idea did not work and needs to be toned down. All I can say about Dooms day is he looks like a cave troll and why did he keep exploding? By the time Bats and supes have bonded over their mums sharing a name and Batman has murdered everyone to save Martha the finale fight begins. Dooms day comes exploding....... I'm bored, this movie is devoid of energy and direction. The set up to future films were forced, cheap and nonsensical at times and all an it was kind of **** Expand

It had some issues, mostly plot or directing issues. Which makes sense since they had a second writer come in half way and changed things and then they took out a half-hour worth of the movie for the theaters and it shows in sloppiness and abrupt scenes. Which, in a movie this big and important, is in of itself somewhat unforgivable. I will mention this: The tone of the movie is much like Man of Steel. If you truly hated the darker tone of that movie, you are not going to like BVS because it is as, or is even more so, grim as MOS. Personally, I love the tone of DC's harder take on the superhero genre. But I don't really make that part of my judgement of the movie. You either like it or you don't.
In terms of acting I liked it across the board. Affleck was good (suprise!), Cavill was decent. Gal Gadot/Wonder Woman was AWESOME! I was so worried about her and her parts of the movie made me outright smile. She is exactly the way i hoped they would go with her character. Can't wait for her solo movie next year. Eisenberg as Luthor was up and down. He was truly terrific in some parts and flat or stupid in others. Definitely a product of the re-writes, i would bet money on it. Jeremy Irons was very fun as Alfred. A more hands on, smart ass version of Alfred. The "Dawn of Justice" parts of the movie are also a mixed bag, but mostly because they are part of the weird placement and pace issues of the middle/later parts of the movie. The actual "cameos" are interesting, I would have liked them more...organized or better presented. You'll see.
I won't go into spoilers, and there are plenty. The first hour of this movie is riveting (10/10). The middle is okay, plot and pace get wonky (7/10), and then the ending is a bizarre mix of mind-blowing goodness or crappy in rapid fire. The fights are jaw dropping (and honestly worth the price of admission), but then the plot and connecting the dots towards the end go off the rails and some are just unispired (4/10). While it should be fairly clear if you are a comics fan, but the average viewer probably missed a lot. So I would give it a 7/10 overall.

IT IS TERRIBLE. It felt like they were taking extra plots lines, characters and opportunities for spin-offs and just cramming them into one overblown pile of a movie. The action was as overdone as a Transformers movie and the dialogue came off as an afterthought to another CGI mess in the Zach Snyder collection of trash. I grew up a Batman fan. I've actually spent years of my life reading the Batman comic series. I love Frank Miller, Jeph Loeb and other great Batman writers so it's not that I don't understand the comic book culture (which shouldn't be a prerequisite for a block buster film). Maybe it's DC trying to catch up to the interconnected universe of films that Marvel has been creating for the last 5-10 years (which also aren't very good)? Maybe it's Zach Snyder being an awful director? Or maybe it's just the fact that with a title like Batman V Superman you can put any pile of **** on the screen and people are going to go see it? Well it worked on me, but man I should have trusted my gut. Zach Snyder? Ben Affleck as Batman? Those were huge red flags, and like so many other movie goers I bought my $10 ticket at the fancy theater that allows you to buy booze, thank God, and contributed to further creating piles of garbage like this. Oh well, at least I can say that I have a new personal worst movie of all time. Expand

That opening scene was beautiful for all of its four or so minutes. As for Gal Gadot, I never even liked Wonder Woman, but Gal Gadot is great. She's got old world poise, she can act, she's sexy and vicious. And her costume is toned down rather than having the stupid bright colors I've seen in the comics. Who ever woulda' "thunk" that the one actor in the movie I've never heard of would be the one to carry it? Problem is. She's not in that much of it, so by and large the film falls flat. I would buy a DVD of just her scenes, but never of this entire bloated, choppy, unnecessarily complicated movie which uses too much sketchy shorthand to convey events, leaving the narrative broken, and which also for all of its two and a half hours barely bothers to convey any character. These guys are flat even for a superhero movie.

I couldn't stand the Superman movie, so I turned it off before the climactic scene. So I didn't quite get the beginning of this film which takes place during that final battle from the Superman movie. As best as I can tell aliens invaded Earth (Kryptonians I think) and Superman fended them off. In the process people died; for some reason Batman blames Superman rather than the bad guys who attacked Earth. The reason he blames Superman is never explained.

This short paragraph contains a MILD SPOILER. Nothing serious. Very mild. It would probably be in the trailer if it was interesting enough to be. Later, Louis Lane (who inexplicably does not have black hair) is captured by bad guys in the middle east. Other bad guys show up and kill them. Then Superman appears and rescues Louis. Here again, for some unknown reason the public blames Superman for killing people in this scenario, even though I only saw bad guys killed, and they were killed by bullets shot by the other bad guys. I saw no civilian casualties anywhere.

If the idea of Superman being a threat were central to the plot, which it is, you think they would visually make the reason for this abundantly clear, but instead, we are left scratching our heads over how people could blame Superman for anything. But they do, and Batman decides he's going to battle Superman.

Most of the above you can get from the trailers (and the title). I won't spoil what happens in the fight between the two of them, but it has to do with some utterly inexplicable nonsense involving Lex Luthor. The only good thing about the final battle is that Gal Gadot shows up.

My recommendation: Wait until the movie is available for rental (and until the rental price goes down to a few bucks) and then rent it and fast forward to Gal Gadot's scenes. You might get 20 minutes or so. Not a lot but barely enough to make the rental worthwhile.

I honestly don't understand why it's catching so much flak. Sure, there was a lot going on, but it wasn't hard to understand what was happening throughout the movie nor was it hard keep up with, it was just a lot. BvS was one big set up for many of DCs future upcoming films and I never found it to be a distraction or ruined the pace imo. I was aware of what was going on from beginning to end and I loved every minute of it. Superman was good. Lex was a master manipulator. Wonder Woman was as bad ass as advertised. Batman was fantastic and the action and battle scenes were pretty damn epic imo. Speaking of Batman, I own and love the trilogy and have watched them several times. That being said, I think that this version of Batman is by far the best iteration of the Batman character yet and also closer represents the comic and animated movie versions imo, and that's a great thing. Don't go into BvS expecting Marvel fluff with cute, quip-py, chuckle-hut one liners. DC is taking things a little more seriously, but in a fun and entertaining way.

Don't trust these so called "critics". These are the same critics that said "The Witch" was the scariest horror movie of the year..... it absolutely was not and those **** owe me money for that piece of crap. No, go see the movie for yourself and judge for yourself. I'm glad I didn't listen to all those idiot critics. BvS was a good movie.

Zack Snyder crafted a well thought story with memorable visuals. A great starting on point for the DC movie universe. Sets up the Justice League nicely. Plus, a delightfully mischievous Lex Luthor is the icing on the cake. The movie answers the question - what would happen if Superman came to our modern Earth. This is by no means a perfect Superman. He's still young, making mistakes and learning to be the hero he is destined to be. It's a journey that started in Man of Steel and will continue in future installments. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. somehow they made both batman and superman the bad guy until the end of the film when they both suddenly become the good guy. Batman walks around a desert and kills people all while wearing his batsuit and then the scene gets cancelled out by who i'm assuming is the flash coming back in time and waking him up? but what is that suit, thats not a flash suit?
Suddenly batman cares if superman dies because superman's mum has the same name as his or is it because he cares that his mum will die, thats just another reason you should kill superman because we just found out he will go on a rampage and kill everyone if his misses dies so ofc he is going to do the same when his mum dies

I came to movie with low expectations and left greatly and pleasantly surprised by what I saw. DC view on superhero ganra differs from Marvel, this movie in particular is dark and especially Ben Affleck pulls out the dark, tired and hedonistic Batman excellently, making him my second most favorite Batman.

Let me say first that as someone from outside Western world, I have not read in my youth the comics, so fe I didnt have problems with Lex Luthor character being shifted from comics one. I loved the idea of resentment towards Superman and fears of people due to his god-like power, why Batman saw a danger in him, the plot for most part made sense and the fact that it tried something new, abandoning Marvel fun-and-fight was a dangerous, but good step by director. However, I feel that some segments didnt have to be in movie as it made it too full of substories - rise of metahumans, WonderWoman and perhaps even Doomsday.

Overall however I had FUN watching this movie and that is a breaking point. I was watching the screen without being bored or tired for more than 2 hours, something not that many movies can do for me and it should be your most important measurement. As such, highly above expectations, load of fun, new and untried dark look at superhero saga with quality acting by Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Jesse Eisenberg, intriguing plot with some misteps here and there and some **** epic fights. Solid 8/10.

There is no surprises in the actual movie. Lex Luther is supposed to be the most refreshing villain in comic movie history because he always keeps his cool and is a perfect politician. But Jesse Eisenberg being the 1 trick pony, turned him into the typical weird nerdy genius that is in just about every other comic movie. If you don't know about the missed opportunity, think Little Finger from Game of Throne, but even smarter and more powerful. Every scene with Lex in this movie is a total disaster and the clash of ideology was watered down by the meddling. Another foolish thing is... they made batman have a anger tantrum... it's not just the trailer exaggerating. Batman really has just a stupid anger tantrum as teenage-immature as in the trailer. just facepalm all over. It's a reimagining of batman... that turn into crap. Batman's only unique "super power" was his near perfect control, planning and life-experience over all others. They took that away in this movie. This is especially important in Justice League situation. If every fricking character in Justice League is an emotional hot head who throws anger tantrum... well... it's going to turn into a sht mess and there is no longer character differences... just costume and power difference... that completely pales in comparison to why Marvel movies are good. It was a movie that was plagued with really bad pacing at the beginning of the movie. Because of this the first 45 minutes or so felt like 3 random movies featuring Batman, Superman, and Lex Luther poorly pieced together with chewed up bubble gum holding them together. There were also pointless dream sequences and viewers have to suffer through another Batman original story at the beginning, which no one needs to see in 2016. We have all seen it.

That being said, the movie does get better towards the end. The acting was great and I found Superman to be more likable than I have found him before, and I've never been a big Superman fan. The ending was very strong. With a different cut this movie would have been much better. It's a shame the opening few minutes bogged it down and kept it from its potential.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just made an account to post this review... it will contain spoilers...

I saw BvS the first Thursday night it came out. In short, I felt the movie had faults. I wasn't sure why, but it turns out it's because I wasn't able to follow the minor details of the story. Is that a fault itself for a movie? Well, no. Multiple viewings should reward viewers, and BvS is no exception.

I just left the theater from my 2nd viewing. I waited roughly 3 weeks to watch it a second time. Unbelievable, considering I had been anticipating this movie for years.

Words cannot truly express how beautiful this movie is. They really can't. As I type this I am still swiping tears from my eyes. There are so many layers and visual cues to something beyond film, beyond a screen, beyond a projector. And I'm not just talking about 1 or 2 parts of the movie. Scene after scene was rich with visual metaphor, character arc, and most of all, heart. You can really tell everyone put their best efforts into this movie. I applaud every single person involved.

Just as of for instance - the scene when Superman gets nuked, amidst tons of chaos, non stop action, and climactic battle, there is a moment of elegance and grace that is absolutely unparalleled in movies today. I'm talking about the part when after Doomsday crashes back down to Earth, and lets out a jolt of energy, causing an explosion on the abandoned island, it cuts back to space showing the explosion happening on Earth, and Superman, in an envelope of complete silence, Snyder paints a picture of him inadvertently pointing directly at the explosion from space. It beautifully captures the entire plight of Superman in such a way I could not believe how expressive, creative, and majestic a shot could exist in film.

And this is just one instance. There are many more. I absolutely implore everyone to watch this movie multiple times, in an intimate setting. The first night I saw the movie it was in a packed theater, adrenaline was pumping, and expectations were through the roof. This is not that type of movie. Tonight, I walked in right as the movie started, to a completely empty theater. It was one of the greatest personal decisions I have ever made. I'm so happy the way the movie turned out.

The action, acting, soundtrack, costumes, set design, script, visual effects - all of it are top notch. We are watching masters of craft at work. Snyder brings it all together so well that I sat at the end as the credits rolled with my mouth open. Absolutely amazing Zack Snyder. I appreciate your work, your art, and most of all this movie. 10/10, an absolute masterpiece, nothing has come or will ever come close to the magnitude of greatness this movie achieves.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really hate critics who went into BvS expecting some sort of substantial plot. It's a freakin' DC movie. We already know the plot. We're there to see gods among men clashing to the death. No one gives a rat's arse about the story. We want to see Batman beating the crap out of Superman. We want to see Wonderwoman lunging at Doomsday with a freakin' sword. And that's exactly what we got. Critics are stupid. This movie was amazing. It was a thrilling and memorable experience. Expand

I would give it a solid 8.5 for fans of the comics, and probably a 7.5 to the average viewer who may not catch or understand all the nods to the source material. The amount of hate that this movie has received is infuriating to me, because it is turning into another Watchmen, which remains my favorite superhero movie of all time. BVS, like Watchmen, will likely be considered to be a misunderstood masterpiece, a film that expects the audience to think, feel, and be willing to understand a complex and nuanced narrative, with well-executed philosophical underpinnings and symbolism. The movie is one of the most accurate comic book movies out there, and the way it is shot and delivered makes you feel as if an amazing graphic novel is being translated to film. For some, this may feel jumpy and disorienting, but if you have ever read a comic, you can clearly see how the style of shooting and transitions is so true to the look and feel of actual comics, which is an achievement; we should respect the talent of the amazing Zack Snyder. This is something that the Marvel movies have failed to achieve, and are not interested in doing, which is fine. Another big problem is that people are comparing the movie to Marvel films, and that is not what this movie is. Marvel films are action comedies, which almost completely lack any sense of gravitas or weight, but are very fun and entertaining, with just enough nods to the source material and great casting to make fans happy. However, BVS is not like those films, it is serious, it demands that you think, and it does not coddle you. It is like Watchmen in this way, but, unfortunately, critics and many supposed "fans" are still not ready for truly serious and meaningful superhero films, and prefer the easily accessible (and very predictable) Saturday Morning cartoon style of films that Marvel presents (as in the studio and not including the Fox films). Why can we not just enjoy both? Because, apparently, the cool thing to do is bash anything not Marvel and nitpick it to death, when you could actually just work out all of your supposed plotholes if you bothered to pay attention to the film. The casting was spot on, and Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and Jeremy Irons put on amazing performances as their respective characters, with returning stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and others continuing to put on stellar performances. Jesse Eisenburg's performance will divide many, but as a fan of the graphic novel, Superman: Red Son, I really enjoyed his character and thought that he did an excellent job. Ben Affleck is the absolute best live-action Batman we've seen, and Henry Cavill continues to perform admirably as Superman. For those who are not patient, and don't appreciate meaningful dialogue and a lack of one-liners, the first hour of the movie may bore you, because we actually get a good amount of character development and story that leads into the explosive latter half of the movie. Now, the movie is not perfect, and there are certainly parts of the film that leave some questions unanswered, but, we all should have known going in that this is a prologue movie, so there should be things for us to discover in the next movie. One part of the film that was maybe a little out of place was the apocalyptic dream-sequence, which only fans of the comics will truly understand and appreciate. The scene is not bad, but it's placement and delivery may be strange for some. So the film does have some issues, but, overall, it is a masterfully shot, well-acted, and well-thought out film, that respects a viewers intelligence and ability to comprehend complex themes. On another note, the final 45 minutes of the movie is absolutely amazing, and the interweaving plots develop naturally and flow well. Seeing the Trinity in action is an amazing sight, and will make DC fans giddy with delight. Also, and I won't spoil it, the final 20 minutes or so of the film had me on the verge of tears and the finale was truly amazing, but certainly not a "happy" ending. No Marvel film has been able to get me even close to feeling particularly sad about a character or event, which again shows how much more emotional weight DC is willing to invest in their films. Anyway, I've gone on long enough, but I urge people to see the film for themselves and to be open to a different kind of superhero film. The critics are being exceedingly harsh and the fanboys who want to hate on the film are out in droves, but to those who can ignore the hate, they will find an incredible film that truly is the Dawn of Justice. Overall this films was absolutely exhilarating visually and auditory, story was very keen and interesting, but there was just way too much going on. Character wise, this movie had it all. Batman was absolutely thrilling (gave me goosebumps), superman is well surprisingly better represented, lex luthor was well crazy, awkward, weird but still decent, wonder woman played out tremendously and Doomsday is just good enough. So for those of like DC comics, Over-the-top action sequences followed up by Snyder's directorial vision and few easter eggs (*cough *cough Joker) and plot holes, here and there. Then this is the FILM FOR YOU...... if not however just watch it, you're bound to enjoy it either ways.

This film surprised me in a few ways, Bat-Fleck was cool and he had very advanced technology. The shots were beautiful and the score is amazing-Hans Zimmer kills it.

The bad- Lois is still obnoxious and always in places she doesn't belong. Wonder Woman is a strong point of interest and has like 5 whole minutes of screen time. This movie revolves around the past instead of Superman and Batman going back forth. The scene where the flash comes back from the future is very confusing to any non-comic fan. Lex is sort of atrocious, any actor would have looked more like Lex anyway. Then the entire justice league is introduced to the DC cinematic universe in brief videos that Batman finds on a file that Lex had. If Lex knew about these guys then what has he been doing?! Doomsday is a cool villain and I love that he kills Superman, but the audience will not feel satisfied because the conflict is between Batman and Superman. Shoving Doomsday in the plot feels cheap.

I personally feel Man of Steel is a better film-and that is also far from perfect.

As a comic book fan, I honestly had hopes for this movie. I was disappointed by the loose backstory they gave Batman; however, a proper backstory would have taken at least another movie, and with this coming out so soon after the Dark Knight trilogy, it's understandable why they chose to leave it out. My biggest problem was how much they tried to cram into this movie. Marvel took five movies to introduce the main members of their Avengers team; DC tried to do that in one movie. the result: train wreck. My final problem was with how lame Doomsday looked.
