With an A-list cast, I wanted to like this movie but i couldn't. It felt too rushed to compete with with Marvel. They should have flushed out the characters and took there time.

Batman v Superman is a dark, hopeful and sometimes crazy adventure. The theatrical cut is very lackluster but the director's cut is simply breath-taking.

Superman and Batman's characterization are both realistic and grounded BUT still feels like like comic versions but in a more modern world setting: It's good to see Clark/Kal-el struggle with the power that he has and his duty to mankind, which some iterrations of the character missed in previous adaptation.Batman, he, feels straight out of the graphic novel: TDKR, he thinks Superman is as much of a criminal as Zod is and he is the litteral incarnation of Johnathon Kent's quote: People fear what they don't understand.

Overall the movie is good, certain plot points are left out , but luckily: the UE is much more cohesive.
The fight between B-Man and S-Man is rough, Lex is crazy like the SM:BR version which is great to see a different version, and Wonder Woman just....... Takes the cake.

Zack Snyder's follow up to his amazing film Man of Steel continues to explore the character of Superman in a very unique way. Taking inspiration from several stories (Injustice: Gods Among Us, Superman: Earth One, Kingdom Come to name a few)Zack Snyder's follow up to his amazing film Man of Steel continues to explore the character of Superman in a very unique way. Taking inspiration from several stories (Injustice: Gods Among Us, Superman: Earth One, Kingdom Come to name a few) Zack Snyder and writers David S. Goyer (Story) and Chris Terrio(Screenplay) showcase the aftermath and consequences of a world with Superman and a world that's first glimpse of Superman is through death and destruction (end of Man of Steel).
The story picks ups 18 months after the last film, but not before we get a dream sequence replaying Batman's origins, which serve as a window into Bruce's psyche as well as the battle of Metropolis through the eyes of Bruce Wayne (its pretty amazing how accurate they recreated the action, even down to timing). We get a great sense of what is driving Batman's paranoia with Superman.
We get at least 5 story-line's that meld together throughout the narrative perfectly. Giving each character something to do.
First we get Lois Lane's story arc in which an incident in Africa causes people to view Superman as an out of bounds type menace, who has no boundaries.
The second story-line involves Superman, who now has to deal with the ramifications of now having the world know who he is and his attempts to be the good man his father knew he could be. We get some great imagery that continues to bring the character to a more prominent light through tragedy. There is a scene when the Congress Hearing Explodes and we see his point of view within the destruction and can see the tear in his eyes, the hope he has going away, a scene I think was done perfectly by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL's score.
The 3rd story-line involves Batman and Bruce Wayne's continued focus on getting some Kryptonite that he knows will stop Superman once and for all. It's never fully explained how he discovered Kryptonite, but my guess is being the World's Greatest Detective he would have similar resources that Lex has and was able to discover it.
The fourth story-line of course involves Lex's manipulation of everyone, this story line weaves itself throughout the rest of the story-lines so in a way its not its own to begin with, but suffice it to say he's a huge reason what is going on happens.
The 5th story-line is the smallest and involves Wonder Woman's search for the a file that Lex has taken of her, proving she is not human and her and Bruce's discovery of other "Meta-Humans" setting up the DC Extended Universe. I felt this was done amazingly as it goes along with the rest of the this story but never feels intrusive.
Now on to the action, which again puts a huge smile on my face, the action between Batman & Superman is great and well worth the price of admission. It would have been nice to see an earlier fight showing that Batman has to test him first, but with the other stories going on its not a huge issue for me. The final fight between Doomsday, Superman and Wonder Woman, for me was even better and really gave us a great sense at what we can expect in Justice League: Part One and how amazing Zack Snyder understands these characters and their fighting style. The Batman fight scene we saw in the trailers is even better in the context of the film. To see Batman fighting MMA style, get mad and annoyed and even making tactical mistakes but never flinching just felt like I was reading a comic or playing one of the Arkham Games. Christopher Nolan must have seen those fight scenes and shook his head as to how bad his were.
The acting in the film is also top notch, Jesse Eisenber, who many claim is just doing a Joker impression, I felt played a psychotic Lex very well, he has three personalities, the rich spoiled playboy, the maniacal sadist and the personality we saw at the end. Hency Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne & Diane Lane all return and continue to amaze me with their depiction of these iconic characters. The new players being Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons and Gal Gadot are a welcome addition, Affleck is definitely the new definitive Batman and it was fun seeing some of the future films teased (Red Hood anyone). Gal Gadot is only in a few scenes but she certainly steals the show, her fight scenes are great, loved when she was knocked down and smiled at fighting again, certainly makes me excited for the Wonder Woman film.
Jeremy Irons was seen the least sadly but his scenes are great. You can really see the chemistry between him and Affleck and it plays like you would see in Batman: The Animated Series or even The Batman.
The special effects and score I felt were even better than Man of Steel, you can see Hans Zimmer's love for these characters and Junkie XL's being bought on to do the Batman part of the score was great too.
As you see I rated this 4/5 out of 5. The only issue that is here that I hope they fix is the way it was edited, now I'm not saying the film was edited badly in the sense that you couldn't understand what was going on or it felt like the editor knew nothing of what he was doing, but it does go from one scene to another quite frequently. I understand the need to keep the film going, but its also important to savor the scene and let it talk to the audience.
Many criticized the film for not being coherent or being confusing to anyone who doesn't read comics and I will have to disagree. The film is the first part of a two part film. Its like how Superman: The Movie introduced Zod, Ursa and Non, setting up Superman II, this film was doing the same thing. I'm not gonna accuse those who didn't understand as being stupid either, but I do blame them for not paying attention and some for looking for things to hate. I saw this film once and understood everything, after seeing it a 2nd time I felt the viewing experience was even better and for me the best films are those you can watch over and over again and find something new.
I am so ready for Justice League: Part One

A horrible mishmash of incoherent drivel. One of the greatest opportunities in superhero cinema totally squandered away in a nonsensical plot and skewed character dynamics. I think when you have the chance to have two of the biggest and best superheroes ever in the same movie like Batman and Superman and be able to pit them against each other, I don't know why you bother to go further than that. That in itself makes for a potentially legit movie. Instead we have a half baked attempt at blockbusting. Lots of expensive flash and bang with no substance. A host of dazzling characters, but no heart or humanity to any of them. A long looping plot with bizarre and abrupt changes with no motivation or common sense behind them. That Batman warehouse fight scene was crazy cool, but that is about it. There is a reason why after this Ben demanded complete control of his own stand alone Batman reboot. This was a shameful flop, not worth money. Expand

On one hand, I was satisfied with the film, but on the other, I felt like this film was released to early. Even still, I was hopeful for BvS. After the disaster that was Star Wars Episode 7, I needed a movie to get me excited for something again. Unfortunately, BvS was a film of extreme ups and downs. The film absolutely excels in its action and visuals, and both Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck fit very well in the roles of DC's two biggest characters. But the film is also overstuffed, unfocused, and lacks proper build-up. For me, DC's desire to compete with Marvel is costing them dearly, especially since Captain America: Civil War came out this year as well, which is without a doubt, one of Marvel's best films. They need to take their time to build a proper universe, instead of trying to fit numerous unrelated stories into each of the movies. So for me, I'm still recommending for people to check it out, just be sure to keep your expectations in check. Expand

His shortcomings were exacerbated by putting him in scenes with Jeremy Irons as Alfred. Irons is clearly the better actor and makes Ben look worse. As Batman he did a fine job. Overall he ranks third for the role, behind Bale and Keaton. There could have been more story around building his plan to fight Superman. They really forced the main villian (spoiler) Doomsday was kind of forced into being quickly was well. Lex Luthor came across as a little childish and Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal was significantly better. Wonder Woman come out of this film as the best hero. I was in doubt at the original casting, but Gal proved me wrong. While I will, no doubt, wait for Afleck's Batman stand-alone to go to DVD, I will make an effort to see Wonder Woman in the theater. The main fight didn't need to exist, absurd coincidences happen, Superman didn't even need to die. I would stay here one years listing all the flaws.

Watch the Ultimate Cut and don't even bother with the original Theatrical Release. Warner Brothers screwed up badly by forcing a worse version of the film into theaters. I truly believe the Ultimate Cut is worthy of 5/5 stars. The Ultimate Cut is the definitive version of this gem and I actually liked it a lot. Very different than any other superhero movie you have ever seen and it doesn't deserve that hate it receives. Ben Affleck is the best Batman/Bruce Wayne. Henry Cavill doesn't get enough praise for his portrayal as a troubled but kind Superman. Gal Gadot steals the scene she is in as Wonder Woman and the fight scene between the Holy Trinity and Doomsday was really awesome. I thought this movie had guts and you can't say that about any of the MCU films.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is complete **** The script and the direction were pathetic and it sucks for the screenwriters because they wrote Argo. Zack Snyder once again ruined what could have been a great superhero movie. Jesse Eisenberg was annoying as Lex Luther and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman was barely in the film. Henry Cavill did an ok job returning his role as Superman. Ben Affleck did do a good job as Batman though and his performance is what saved the movie. Everything else was average even the CGI. It's too bad that Ben Affleck was in another bad superhero movie, because he wanted to redeem himself from the atrocious Daredevil. Unfortunately, he got unlucky and it wasn't his fault. Expand

For all the backlash from his casting, Ben Affleck was absolutely superb as Batman, maybe the closest we'll get to the true dark nightmare that is Batman from the comics. Gal Gadot was also brilliant as Wonder Woman, even though her time in the movie is pretty short; and Hans Zimmer's score was, as you'd expected, fantastic.

But for these great things there are so many things wrong with it. The plot is a muddled mess, confusing and out of pace. Whether it's the final editing or the overall script I do not know. Jesse Eisenberg was absolutely the wrong person to play Lex Luthor. Too over-the-top and over reliant on stupid coincidences, left from Man of Steel and more introduced in this movie. An emotionless Superman carries over from Man of Steel, and his character development deviates in the wrong direction. The teasers for the upcoming Justice League movie felt out of place and just pointless in relation to the plot.

This movie really should've been one of the movies of the year. Instead I was left speculative about the future of the DCEU. For the comic book fan, this movie will be great. But for anyone else, be prepared to be disappointed.

It's certainly got its problems, mainly the story being kinda disjointed and trying to work too many angles into one film. That and Eisenberg was an awful choice for Luthor, he just completely butchers the role by trying to be the Joker. All that said, it's still a pretty good movie. It's dark, violent, and very serious. Unlike most other comic book movies, it's not campy or cracking jokes to lighten the mood the whole time. The action is intense and brutal. They didn't pull any punches with the fight scenes, nor did they spare us the reality of how barbaric and devastating a battle of these kinds would really be. I also enjoy the way they incorporate the ugliness of human nature, the idiocy of our modern media, and our propensity to find blame anywhere we can. All in all, I enjoyed it, despite its flawed story and questionable casting choices. It's unfortunate, because I think it could have been a great movie, but the flaws turn it into simply a decent movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just bad.

Whilst I can accept that Marvel movies could become formulaic (or have?) – what they do have is humour, believable characters, an internal logic, focussed plots and they remain true to the original characters.

Where DC is going wrong is not having any of the above.

BvS is both joyless and stupid.

According to some reviewers DC is supposed to be “gritty”, exploring more “difficult” aspects of the superhero – whereas Marvel is sunny and uncomplicated. But really, BvS is just miserable and poorly executed. It is not exploring any issues in depth (nor did Man of Steel), it is just presenting a pompous, over-complicated and poorly explained punch-up.
(contrast it with the far more believable story-arc for Captain America).

We know Snyder can explore serious superhero aspects because he made “Watchmen” – but then of course he had superior source material to work from.
Perhaps, he should have repeated that & drawn from Frank Miller for this film…

First off, the characters are not engaging. Superman is still passive and ineffectual. His is just not heroic. And PLEASE, ease off the messiah references!! (In fact, he is like a bland 50’s movie Jesus with a red cape).
Batman is OK-ish, but too thuggish. Not intelligent enough. His motivation against Superman doesn’t add-up – it just has to be that way.

Wonderwoman – she is the only character with any verve, and I thought Gadot was better than expected. But she is more Xena than Wonderwoman. And the reasons for her being involved are flimsy.

Luthor – I could just about stand his eccentricities, but what about his motivation?? Why did he do any of it? He hated Superman, but why?

And how did he know how to create a super-monster? And why do it anyway? And how did he know it would hatch just as Superman arrives from his abandoned fight with Batman? (because he’s a genius??) And if Batman had killed Superman, what was Doomsday for? (and could Luthor have aborted it, given he didn’t need it to kill Superman anymore?). No sense whatever.

It is as if DC can’t bring themselves to portray the characters as per the comics.
This is the failing of many superheroes movies before the MCU era.
They don’t trust the characters.

The over-convoluted, trying-to-be-clever plot trundles slowly towards the supposedly climactic battle, but it is actually quite plodding and unimaginative.
But wait! The real battle is with Doomsday – but this is a boring technicolour CGI battle. Unreal and difficult become involved in.

So the one-to-one physical punch-up between B and S was somehow boring because it was unimaginative, lacked flair. The over-the-top fight with Doomsday with all the bells-and-whistles was also boring, because it was protracted and lacked substance. (Marvel had also veered that way with Ultron and Iron Man 3, but brought it back with Civil War)

My 15-year-old son couldn’t be bothered to see it to the end. He gave up towards the end of B and S’ fight – I think it was the “Martha” moment. Throughout, he kept pausing it to point out, in frustration, the many stupidities of the film (he was particularly amazed by the utterly ridiculous Batman dream sequence – and the fact that none of the Wayne employees would evacuate their offices until Bruce Wayne told them to).

Other groan-out-loud moments:- Batman pumping-up in his cave in order to fight an invulnerable Superman??? (Would big muscles help against Superman?); Batman ploddingly hitting Superman with a sink (was it meant tie b funny? It wasn’t. And if it was, it was drastically ill-timed); Superman and Batman saying “I thought she was with you” in the most leaden clumsy attempt at humour (now they’re buddy enough to josh with each other?)

Badly written, conceived and directed.

Poor old DC !

I like Batman a lot, I've never cared that much about Superman. I went into these movie with very low expectations (due in part to it's predecessor Man Of Steel, a lifeless waste of time), and I left the cinema very surprised. This movie delivered a very investing version of Batman and I understood the depth of Superman as a character for the first time. I also seem to be the only person who likes Jesse Eisenberg as the villain (I understand he is not the classic Luthor and his plan never made much sense, but something about his performance captivated me on every scene he was in). Both the cinematography and the score were amazing.

I can take into account all the problems people are pointing out: it tried to be a lot of movies at once, there were a lot of plot holes and the last act was pretty bad. Nevertheless, I don't think these compromise the overall enjoyment of the movie.

Once again, same problem: a superhero movie trying to be too dark and serious. Makes me think of the failing Fantastic Four (2015). DC should learn how to keep balance between self-aware fun and respect to the comics at the same time. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. extended cut can't save that film. batman v superman is a disaster
the entire premise is flawed and they really can't save it in any way. it should never have been made. for such an implausible concept as 'superman actually fights batman properly' , they really need the entire movie to set it up, but instead they decided to use the entire movie to setup justice league and so the initial premise is left dangling. it's so weak it just totally collapses. when it comes to that fight, I just find myself wondering why the hell superman gives up so easily in asking for batmans help until right at the end when batman is about to kill him. it's like he doesn't even care about his mom at all. he just suddenly turns into a psychopath.
Oh and somehow Lois has got super hearing now because she heard the name Martha before she was in earshot? batman is repeating "why did you say that name" for quite a while before Lois comes in "it's his mom" .. yeah... Lois, how in the HECK did you know to say that?!?!
I don't blame Zak Snyder. I blame the bigwig producers and the writers.

I really wanted to like this movie. Tried my best to ignore the online criticism. Unfortunately I still ended up thinking the movie is a mess. Don't get me wrong, there's allot that I really liked too.

If anything the whole movie from the point where Batman fights Superman to the end was great. Great action, some powerful and iconic scenes. Gal Gadot really kicks @$$ as Wonder Woman. Affleck is great as Batman, Irons is a great Alfred. In fact almost every Batman related scene was great.

What lets it down? Essentially most of the first two thirds of the movie. Basically, most of the Superman scenes. There is little to no build up relying heavily on the first movie to establish Superman's character. What little there is, is weak. Don't get me started on Lex. Eisenberg is just far too over the top, coming across as a looney toon. There's a thin line between twisted genius and cartoon villain (a la Jim Carrey's Enigma. Not that far gone, but making a solid effort.)

Overall:
Batman v Superman is perhaps trying too hard to establish the DCU with everything they try to set up. In doing so it kind of loses itself for most of the beginning of the movie. However, when it remembers to be a movie it does have some great and enjoyable moments.

Side Note to producers:
Lose Eisenberg. He's terrible. Rather recast or bring in Lex senior. Junior sucks.

It really felt like two separate movies puzzled together. Ben and Henry Weren't bad (not great neither) but they didn't have a chemistry together, sparks weren't flying off the screen like it should have been. Jesse as Luthor was a real pain in the ass. The kind of guy you're not at all scared of and who is way too annoying. If he was my boss I would quit my job or be at home with a burn-out. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a fairly good but flawed introduction to DC Extended Universe. The acting is great (especially Ben Affleck as Batman), the action sequences are impressive, and the musical score is perfect. However, there is too much destruction and Doomsday is just awful. The story has good moments but overall, it does not make a lot of sense. Although the film creates a good setting for the upcoming Justice League movie, it introduces the Justice League characters in an uninteresting way. Expand

I think it is also important to note that while I may have a slight preference for Marvel's properties; I still have a fondness for DC's iconic characters. I know enough about the characters that I questioned several things in the film and was disappointed to see some of my worst fears were realized.

I feel that your personal enjoyment of the film as with any other is a subject of your personal biases and experiences. This film is a decidedly darker film which I am not entirely opposed to if it fits the character. In this case I don't think the darker tone is the film's biggest problem. It fits the darker interpretation of Affleck's Batman which is absolutely brutal. This batman is the darkest that I have seen in a while. I will openly admit I had my concerns about Affleck being cast but I am glad to say that he delivers a fantastic performance. I can't wait to see him in a solo Batman film. However that doesn't change how I feel about the characterization of this interpretation of Batman and Superman. Batman in the comics has always had a strong moral code. One that despite wanting to kill the Joker he refuses to cross that line. In this film he straight up kills common thugs. Superman on the other hand has very little dialogue and spends much of the film brooding and glaring.

The other casting choices are all relatively solid. Gal Gadot delivers a great Wonder Woman and like Affleck I can't wait to see the solo Wonder Woman film. Jeremy Irons plays a more active Alfred which is nice to see. Amy Adams reprises her role as Lois Lane which along with Martha Kent adds a human element to the film that balances its darker tones. The exception is Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal as Lex Luthor. Its important to note that this is not the Lex Luthor many may have been expecting as he plays Lex Luthor's son. His performance could best be summed up as erratic. As other reviewers have put it; it feels like Jesse Eisenberg is playing Jesse Eisenberg. His performance is easily one of the film's biggest flaws. I found him to be obnoxious and annoying.

The movie is about two and a half hours long and its pacing issues are compounded by its runtime. The beginning to middle are very heavy on dialogue and exposition. The themes presented are intriguing but are hard to digest given the number of them. Its dream sequences and jump cuts to entirely different scenes undermine the overall narrative. The other problem I feel is that while the action sequences were great; Zack Snyder isn't a great storyteller. There are several plot holes in the film that leave you questioning the logic behind them.

The biggest fear I had going into the film was that it would repeat the same mistake Spiderman 3 made where characters felt crammed in. I was disappointed to have that fear confirmed. There are 5 major storylines presented in the span of this one film. The "Dawn of Justice" was oversold a bit. However I do think that I would have preferred the solo films before the ensemble like Marvel has done. In the end I think BvS is a film that had parts I really liked while it had others that left me scratching my head. DC now has the foundation out of the way to build upon for the Justice League though its a rocky foundation at best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my thoughts on the theatrical version of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice-
Batman v. Superman is Zach Snyder's follow-up to his 2013 stand alone Superman reboot "Man of Steel", which similar to that film split audiences and critics down the middle. I believe that Batman v. Superman has the same strengths and weaknesses that came with "Man of Steel", meaning the things that really work, work, and the things that fail, fail hard. The things that work include Batfleck, Wonder Woman, The Action, The Visuals, and Snyder knows how to shoot a beautiful looking slow-mo scene.
Sadly however in this cut of the film the bad outweighs the good including such fails as, Lex Luthor and an awful performance by Jesse Eisenberg, Almost no Superman, The Death of Superman, Doomsday the Ninja Turtle Cave-Troll, A 7-Minute Title Fight, and of course say it with me now...."MARTHA"

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Probably my favorite superhero movie of all time. First, characters. Batfleck was superb. He was everything a good Batman should be. We saw him using great detective skills, we saw his most badass fighting sequences yet, he was tough, he was dark, he was perfect. Superman was also fantastic. His inner turmoil from Man of Steel was carried over a bit, but I think this is very important for his character. We still see elements of boy scout Superman, we see him choosing to save a little girl from a burning building rather than pursue Batman, we see cute moments with his mother, we see him saving and comforting Lois. And we even get to see a fair amount of Clark Kent and his journalism. His feelings of isolation and conflict though add another layer to his character, which makes him so important. Lex Luthor was very different to the one that we had seen previously, but the next take of Luthor was so refreshing. He was twitchy and playful but also dark and crazy and I found him endearing. His plot was actually fairly clear and very well justified and I found him much more impressive than any other superhero villain since the Dark Knight. As for the relationship between Baman and Superman, I thought it was extremely well executed. Showing the battle from Man of Steel through the eyes of Bruce Wayne, a normal human, was such a perfect opening and watching him witness it whilst comforting a little girl who lost her parents was a flawless way of establishing his hatred for Superman. The Batman in this movie skipped the origin and went straight to the dark, brooding and broken Batman who was slowly morphing into what he was setting out to destroy. His reasons for this were quite well explored to those paying attention, such was when he asks how many people stayed good, or said they've always been criminals. You can clearly see how the years of being the dark knight have weighed on him. But his development continues throughout the story. The "Martha moment" is hated but I think its great. Batman didn't just decide to start liking Superman because their mothers shared a name, it was a moment of realization. Realizing that this alien that he hated wasn't really so different, that he had a human mother than he loved so much that he used his dying words to beg his murderer to save her. That he didn't come here to destroy him, he came here because he loves his mother. It contrasts how Bruce was hopeless and couldn't save his mother, and here, this God like figure was the same. The ultimate edition is essential, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you do as it fixes up a lot of awkward scene transitions and explains the plot better. The movie had many great moments, such as the fight scenes with Batman and Superman, Batman when saving Martha, etc. The dream sequences were all really cool as well. I seriously can't express enough how much I adore this movie. On first watch, I felt a little confused as to why Batman and Superman were acting the way they were acting and what Luthors plan was. But watching the ultimate edition really helped and now I can't get enough of this movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to love this movie. I wanted this movie to be the best superhero movie. But this movie falls incredibly sort from my hopes for it. However I do not hate it like others. First of all, Ben Affleck is outstanding as Batman in this movie. Everything from the costume to the performance was spot on. Although a few of his actions are not explained which leads to some confusion with the overall character. Also, Wonder Woman is great when she appears in the movie at different points. I must point out that it is hard to judge Gal Gadots performance as she is in the movie very briefly. For me Wonder Woman saves the climax of this movie, which was otherwise unnecessary. The third member of the Holy Trinity, Superman, is horribly under-utilised and the great character he developed in Man of Steel is completely tarnished. It feels as though Supermans arc in this film is pushed aside to make room for the ridiculously out of place end fight which the trailers already spoiled. And Lois Lane is useless in this film. They tried to give her a story of her own, which just ends with no actual payoff. It literally changes nothing in the overall plot of the movie. Again, Lois is another character from Man of Steel that is tarnished by the story telling in this movie. Jesse Eisenburg gives it his all which I respect him for. Despite this, the way Lex Luthor is portrayed is not what I hoped for. He's an unhinged, twitchy child in this film and not the intelligent business man in the comics. He's Joker 2.0. I will say though if he was doing this exact performance in another movie and without the name Lex Luthor I feel as though he would have recieved great praise. He's just not the Lex we wanted. The plot is messy, but not incomprehensible, though when you piece it together the only storyline/motivation that is remotely believable is Batmans. The others are strange and Supermans takes a sudden, unexpected change. His motivations completely flip from wanting to fight Batman because he hates him, to fighting him reluctantly because Lex forces him to. I will say the action and cinematography in this film is pure perfection. Sack Snyder is a visionary, but his story is messy and the editing is jarring. You can really see little pieces of a great movie in Batman v Superman but strange editing, convoluted storylines, a bloated runtime, weird character choices really drag this movie down. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never been so indifferent about a movie before. There are some good parts with a couple surprises (the courtroom scene definitely shocked me) but the long haul through the middle of the film was just soooo boring. I actually dozed off a couple times. Lex Luthor is one of the most annoying and miscast characters in all of cinema. I really don't know what they were thinking. Everything kind of played out by the numbers to the end, combining a couple popular DC comic stories into one movie. Wonder Woman was cool, however her musical theme was amazing and one of the best scores I've heard in awhile. It really pumps up the crowd for her appearance. One thing I just could never get behind was that Batman would have a snowballs chance in Hades against a god with unlimited strength, lightning fast speed and reflexes and super senses, with the additions of devastating range attacks like heat vision which we know can demolish entire buildings like in Man of Steel. Batman triumphs simply because the story needs him to. Expand

It's dark, ambitious, and highly intelligent, has real warmth at its heart, and is better acted and directed than any comic book movie to date. Also, Zack Snyder does a far better job of pulling together all the various plot and character strands than Josh Whedon does in the Avengers films.

Indeed, I have a theory as to why Snyder's work gets panned, while garbage like The Avengers and The Force Awakens gets universally praised: critics today, like a large section of society, are infantilised, and thus are incapable of processing movies that require any amount of thought beyond five seconds. I mean, the entire plot of BvS is driven by fear of fascism and totalitarianism, with some of the characters - including Bruce - acting hysterically as a result. This is really weighty stuff, and worthy of acclaim for a comic book movie; but not one critic I have read appears to have grasped this central theme, even though it is rammed into their faces from the very start with the unsettling nod to Nietzsche (whom I would wager most critics have never even heard of).

It is, though, heartening to see that far more of the audience liked this film than did the critics, and that it made a heap of money. So perhaps there is hope that there will continue to be a place in cinema for Mr Snyder, who never fails to create really meaningful, visually stunning work.

Coming to movie, except that Martha scene, in a whole it was awesome.

My first thought after watching that scene was like "Cool, i have been reading, watching superman or batman comics/animation since i was 9 years old and still i didn't notice that. That is amazing".

But the very next thought was "hey! they were fighting. Dammit. It was thrilling. If you wanted to have a pact between them, Snyder YOU should have done something else. You could have done better ".

Ben Affleck as batman was awesome. No ill will to Bale. Affleck personality made him the right choice for the Frank Miller's batman.

Wonder woman !! OH MY GOD !! In such a short span she pulled something amazing.

* The plot could use some strength and a well pace, not mixing the things up for normal audience.

1.) Like the parademon thing was confusing to most people. what are they.
2.) Wonder woman Lasso was also confusing to people." Is it a rope? Why is she restraining doomsday by a rope? Does it contains magic? Is wonder woman a witch? No she is not . but a rope?????

* Jesse could have been a better Lex. The Lex we saw was kind of psycho but really he is gangsta type with some well calculated moves. But in the movie ending he was coming to his usual self. The way we are used to see Lex. But hey different people different view.

* Looks like i am criticizing too much and still giving it a 9, i wanted to give 8 but then it hit me , we were only focused for BvS but the movie which we saw was "Dawn of Justice". BvS was just a catalyst for it

But while Batman's scenes are interesting, Superman's scenes are mostly dull and lacking in any emotional impact (and it doesn't help that Superman himself seems so lifeless for most of the film). The titular battle is underwhelming and the plot is too convenient. Overall, though it is occasionally entertaining, BvS: DOJ gets bogged down by an overstuffed plot, unconvincing scenarios and a serious lack of energy or fun. It's like since the moment it was announced many people wanted it to be a big failure, but for me it wasn't. It's not perfect, obviously, and it's far away from TDK and Watchmen, and although it has it's flaws it's still great. It fulfilled my expectations of what should a DC movie be like. Anyways, I would be lying if this was the movie I expected. I was hoping for it to be a 10 but it's a very good 8.

Back to the unjustified criticism. This movie was not made for the critics, obviously and it wasn't made for all the audience, but seriously, do I have to read such things like that the movie isn't fun? It's DC, it's not supposed to be fun. I wasn't expecting jokes between their punches like in The Avengers or other MCU films. On the other side, those who say that there are some un comprehensible things I just got one thing to say to you: Please, wait for the R version. Zack Snyder is famous for his very violent films, and a R version with 30 minutes of additional feature could give you the movie you wanted.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finally saw this movie and it was every bit as awful as I though it would be. Lets start with the good. It's beautiful. Alright moving along the dialogue in this movie in almost every scene is awful its like a child scripted it. Superman is a cardboard cutout. I gotta say I like the look and idea of the older Batman and Affleck does a good job but isn't as convincing at a beat up old batman as Bales last portrayal. This is storyline flaw not acting flaw. We should have seen him wearing thin in a backstory as opposed to another story of his beginnings (everyone knows how batmans parents died). Superman is a boring mopey goth kid and I never connected to him because of his 1 dimension. Wonder woman was awesome but random.

I still don't understand why everyone is against superman...he was protecting the city from Zod? Would they have preferred Zod doing as he pleases? My single biggest plot issue is when Superman bends at the knee to a terrorist (Lex Luthor). Yes you read that right. Superman was originally created as a symbol of the american way seriously ...the irony being he's an alien, but all aspire to be good of person as this "man" who always has a grasp on his morals and his powers. But America does not negotiate with terrorists nor do we do what they tell us too...the thought that Superman would is stupid, really stupid. Oh so Superman can save Lois multiple times from around the world because he hears her but can't save his mom from being kidnapped...thats a serious inconsistency.

Luther wasn't as annoying as I thought he would be but he also wasn't good. He will be forgotten. The problem with him and all of the main characters is they have no depth. A great villain with depth is Kingpin from the Daredevil series, he's incredible and as evil as he is you come to an understanding of his decisions because of how we are presented his story. Where none of these characters are given that depth.

Bottom line this movie is one of the worst superhero movies Ive seen in a long time. Its not the actors fault, they did decently, but the writing and plot is awful, truly dumb.

Does a darker tone mandate that the film actually be shot IN the dark?
Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor must be the worst incarnation ever.
It's as though he's trying to outdo Heath Ledger's joker, and there's just no need.

It kept me interested for the whole time and it did so by cleverly swapping between action and storytelling. I think it reached as far in the direction of an intelligent movie as possible for an action movie . And that seems to infuriate people who wanted a simple plot of Batman fighting Superman with a lot of fireworks and without the need to pay attention. I really do not care how close/far it is to the comics, it's a top tier cinema and it deserves more praise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is easily one of the most talked about and controversial movies of the last few years and thus for anyone's opinion to be remembered, it has to be elaborated upon and that is what I will do here. I personally found the ultimate edition anyway, of batman v superman to be a pretty good movie, and find it only slightly inferior to the also underrated man of steel. I realize zach snyder has become one of the internets' key boogie men over the last few years and I get it, but thoroughly disagree with this sentiment. Especially since the, in my opinion, highly overrated christopher nolan is essentially snyder but way more up his own ass with philosophy and symbolism. now that is not to say that zach's movies, especially this one don't have very eye rolling symbolism, the whole "maybe superman isn't a christ figure or a demon" thing was a "tad" on the nose, but zach at bear minimum keeps most of his obvious symbolism visual and breif, as opposed to nolan who has 5 minute long conversations of why anarchy is awesome, multiple times might I add, in the dark knight. but getting back onto track, this film succeeds for me overall because of the naturally great action, especially the cool ass batman vs superman fight and the overall doomsday fight, the awesome visuals, batfelck as people like to dub him and how the film flows well enough in the ultimate edition that all of this setup is easy to watch. I also really enjoyed the little moments added in, like the other members of the soon to be justice league being heaviully alluded to on lex's personal server or whatever, especially aqua man as the "get off my property" guy, that was pretty fun. So overall the ultimate edition is a worthwhile viewing experience and leaves me pretty excited for the 2 part justice league movie coming up starting next year. Expand

All in all not THAT bad. As a life long (most Marvel) comics reader but Watchmen fan, I'm probably used to Snyder being a little heavy handed at times and thats mostly what I felt the movie suffered from. Things like Bats and Supes both being painted as bad guys and scowling at each other most of the movie, trippy pointless dream sequences, Lex not having a selfish enough motivation were the worst points. That said: my apologies to Affleck and Irons, they make a very good Batman and Alfred, Gal Gadot really made an excellent third plot point as the usually afterthought in comics (Wonder Woman), I loved the fight scenes and power demonstrations of all involved an the reveals for the future DCEU. Most will not like htis movie and it sure isn't a kid friendly Disney/Marvel show, most will find it understandable and a bit weird but enjoyable, and anyone whose read or dealt with comic writer/producers with a heavy 'vision' will give Snyder a pass and enjoy the movie the most. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It could have been great.

Unfortunately there were so many points that pulled me out of the story.

They tried to make Lex Luthor like the Joker.
Wonder Woman is smiling while fighting for her life.
Wonder Woman gets mashed through walls and dirt but her skin stays clean.
Doomsday is one of the most powerful enemies in DC but couldn't even hurt Wonder Woman or Batman and the only reason he killed Superman was because of Kryptonite.
Superman's hallucination doesn't make sense.
Superman could have captured Batman in less than two seconds, but he wastes time when he shouldn't.
Batman's suit gets damaged but Wonder Woman's does not.
Superman saves Lois multiple times but leaves Batman to save his Mom.....once Batman found the location Superman could have saved her in less than three seconds.
Doomsday could catch Superman in mid flight but couldn't hit Batman.

It was still a decent movie.....too bad they always force the hollywood action and explosions.

Snyder is a visual director who seems to create scenes first, then fill them with characters and finally add a story to them. And this otherwise amazing movie suffers because of that. Secondly, this film IMO is best superhero movie made after the Dark Knight film by Christopher Nolan not because it has the an intricate storyline like the one Nolan created, but because it pushes the envelope of what a superhero movie can be. I for one am sick of watching what seems like endless one liner comedy superhero films that Kevin Feige and Marvel vomit out every summer and find BvS to be wind of refreshing air due to its darker tone, deeper take on characters and its overall adult orientation. With regards to themes, they are Judaeo-Christian themes sprinkled liberally across this film and a unique take on a kind of "Friedrich Nietzsche atheism" in the character of Lex Luthor. Overall, the film was absolutely amazing. If you hated the theatrical version, don't hesitate to watch the ultimate cut because it is far superior and fills up the so called plotholes "critics" lamented. Expand

Know your enemy's weakness before challenging to a fight!

It is known that critics have no brain. It is the best Superman film as Henry Cavill in the red and blue suit. Yep, I know it is always DC versus Marvel, so it is then DC's reply to the 'Avengers'. I don't care their rivalries, as a film fanatic, I enjoy good films and I found it was so good. But I was a bit worried after the Superman was shown in a dark shade in the trailer, especially after Batwan was overly stylised by Nolan, I thought the black suit would take over. After watching the film I was relieved and happy that Batman was exposed.

Batman fans might have been disappointed, but for the superhero and DC fans, this film is a great treat. You can't compare it with 'Avengers', it had its own style. It follows the 'Man of Steel' and directed by the same director. Excellent cast. I have never been the Ben Affleck hater, so I had no objection to his role in this. He did good along with Cavill and others. He would do better in his solo Batman films if Zack Snyder is retained to script and direct them.

I'm not a comic book reader, so I did not know the story before the watch. I was surprised for the Wonder Woman's part in the film. The visuals were awesome, the story was unpredictable, well developed characters, cleverly composed scenes, wonderful stunt sequences and the film's overall tone was kind of dark and gloomy, a very satisfying superhero film. The content balance was perfect, but the characters did not do the same as we know Superman is a father of all superheroes.

I already watched it twice and I can't wait for its sequel. Especially looking forward for Jesse Eisenberg, because he was kind of stayed low in this and I hope his character Lex becomes much stronger. It is a PG13, and there's nothing botherable stuffs in it for the underage audience, but I felt it is targeted for adults because of the matured flavour. Don't think about that I said, just watch it, it will definitely entertain you well if not blow you away. Surely recommended to all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Critics were hating this movie when the film came out. If you go on rotten tomatoes then you'll see that it's currently 27% on rotten tomatoes. Me as a huge superhero fan didn't give a **** about what the critics said. So i went to see Batman V Superman and i enjoyed it. Is it the best superhero movie ever made? No, but it's definitely one of the best in my opinion. So what did i like about the movie? One is Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He was the best thing in the entire movie and he had some bad ass scenes. Two is the action. It was spectacular and my personal favorite action scene was where Batman goes to a warehouse and just kicks a bunch of ass for about 4 minutes. Three is the rest of the cast. They did great as their characters, even though i thought that Jesse Eisenberg was a Joker like character rather than Lex Luthor but i'll let that pass. Now let's get to the cons of the movie. I didn't really like what Doomsday looked like and i thought it was WAY too early to introduce him. Also, i thought the fight between Batman and Superman was too short. The movie is called Batman V Superman and they only fight for like 10 minutes! Another one is that I didn't really like how there was TOO much cgi at the final battle and could of used a little more stunts. One more thing is that they kill off Superman. Yeah, you heard me, he dies and he was just introduced in the previous movie. Like what were they thinking? I know he's gonna get resurrected in the Justice League movie but why would they do this?? Overall, i think it was a well made superhero movie, even if it does have some problems, and it doesn't deserve so much hate by critics. I think, in my opinion, the movie was made for the fans, not the critics. I enjoyed this movie and i can't wait to watch it again! Expand

The plot isn't all over anymore, the fighting graphics must be some of the best i've ever seen. Plus, the title is kind of mis-leading, The main antagonist is Lex Luthor, who didn't even do much for most of the movie. He did no actual crime until he blew up the senate and it gets worse from there. That's about it for what I can say. Expand

To conclude, watch Batman v Superman. It is a solid, startlingly poignant movie with some good action and good acting. I enjoyed the ride, and I think there is some grim and exciting potential for Suicide Squad and Justice League. Expand

Want to know what´s not? The rest of the movie. I wish I could have seen it before anyone else and said to Zack Snyder or someone "Hey, let me make this a great movie for people". I swear to God, I would have tried. The problem with this film is that not only is it very, very long, but it´s also completely and unbelievably uneven. The start in Metropolis is really cool (Bruce´s parents being murdered isn't), but the rest is fluff. Anyways, I could go on and on but I won't. I like this movie, but I hate that it's not as good as it should be. Expand

This thing is a monstrosity the likes of which I could never have predicted. Everyone who says that "haters" dislike the movie because it's not "funny" or "candy colored" are being disingenuous to the extreme. This movie is one of the worst written movies I've ever seen. The "ultimate edition" is the cut that I saw, and Superman doesn't appear as Superman until an hour into the film. Batman does not appear as Batman, save a one second scene in shadow, for at least an hour into the film. Superman has almost NO LINES in the entire film. Batman has very FEW lines in the entire film. So what is a Batman v. Superman film about, if it's not about Batman or Superman? Well, Lois Lane does a lot of investigating, and the entire plot is communicated through her. The film has almost no exposition, so the entire plot is revealed thorough scenes of people looking a things grimly. About 30% of this film is people staring into space, grimly, as the camera rolls. Another 30 percent of the film is just scene of people in distress. Energy crews carting people off to the hospital. People laying in rubble. that kind of thing.

People in rubble. People staring grimly. Lois Lane silently piecing things together. that's your film, ladies and gentlemen. It's really astonishing.

Good thing I rely on rentals, not cinema costs with the modern level of production values (regardless of costs). Total garbage, with Batman killing endless criminals, and Superman being aloof until abosultely critical. WonderWoman, Flash, and WonderWoman were nothing more than adverts for upcoming spin-offs. Screw that. Expand

Dialogue is worthless. You cant force yourself to care about anyone or anything that is happening.Had slight hope in the beggining, but it was crushed cruely with every ongoing second.Batman and Superman encounter was interesting at first (how could it not be) and then a second later it became so bad that i was bored amd irritated.Luthor was awful. No love,no creativity,no originality in this movie.I wish i never saw this. You end up with anger in the end hahh

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is my favourite film, period. I never thought I'd say this about a mere comic-book adaptation. I never thought I'd say this about a mere comic-book adaptation. I already loved it when it hit theaters in March, always defended it and Mr. Snyder. Ultimate Cut only justified (pun intended) my actions. I'll not go into details as why I loved it, talk about pros and cons - everything had been said already countless times before me.

I would like to say "Thank you" to the entire crew that was responsible for realising this flick and forwad my sincere and honest admiration of Mr. Zack Snyder's work to him. This is the director that knows his comics, loves them and does his absolute best to transform them onto a silver screen. I am 150 % on board with Justice League and all future DCEU entries. I just hope that JL will be receieved warmly and that it will end the absurd amount of bashing on Zack Snyder.

Lastly, I hope that he will remain the man in charge of the DCEU till the very end.

-Fan that absolutely LOVED Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
