I can understand why some critics didn't like it, most didn't understand why certain things were happening because the movie didn't waste time with exposition (a really good example probably being Doomsday and how he works). Some probably wouldn't even enjoy the comics this pulls from, and that is fine. I think it is also very obvious that some of the elements used for the dream sequences some have complained about are going to actually be event plot points in future movies to tie them closely together, in the same way comic books do.

So sure, as a film for someone that doesn't care about the comics or just doesn't know them well, they could hate watching the movie and be left very confused. That's fine. The studio let Synder make a movie for the fans of the comics, which is what he has been saying he wanted to do all along.

It certainly wasn't made in the Hollywood style so many critics seem to be asking for with all the cheap jokes and a tightly packaged happy ending for everyone involved. This isn't the 1978 Superman, and it certainly isn't the 1966 Batman. I understood what I was watching and enjoyed it a lot. It is a modern comic book as film, not a film reflecting a comic book franchise's characters.

I still think the movie is worth the watch, mainly because of its last 30 minutes, but expect to sit through a lot of crap to get there.
First of all, the the good things: Ben Affleck is great as Batman. To give a new edge to a character that has been done to death allready is the only thing this movie has going except the action scenes and its all due to Afflek. His Batman is even darker, more brutal and violent than ever before and while many fans won't appreaciate that, I think it was the right way to portray the character for this movie. Henry Cavill as Superman is the same as he was in MoS, if you liked him there you will like him here too. Wonder Woman just shows from time to time doing nothing until revealing her power in the final battle, but other than fanservice she adds nothing to the movie. But the worst character is Lex Luthor. This might be the worst antagonist of any movie that I've seen in the last few years. Whowever thought of making Lex Luthor a hipster version of Ledger's Joker was out of his mind. Not only is his personality annoying as hell, but his motivation and actions make no sense. I had no idea that I will see a villain even worse than Kylo Ren from the Farce Awakens anytime soon, but congratulations to Jesse Esenberg for pulling that off.
The biggest problem however is the story which is very convoluted and most times doesn't make any sense. The fact that they also try to add social and political commentary as well as as kindergarden phislosophical themes makes it even worse. Its not as pretentoius as Watchmen, Snyder's other opus, but its still way too grimdark for a movie about characters that were written for kids.
Fortunatelly, the actions scenes are worth it. For all his flaws, Snyder is still one of the best at directing action. Wether its Batman fighting some mercs in hand to hand combat or Superman and Wonder Woman having an over the top fight with something that looks like a troll from Lord of The Rings, the action is miles above the crap you see in Marvell Movies.
Overall its not as bad as critics make it out to be but also not as good as it could have been. Still, if you are a fan and want to see a different kind of superhero movie than the hipster, self aware, made by comitee tripe Disney has to offer you should check it out

But to get to the point of this films problem, it is basically just an overlong film with little plot and no coherence to allow itself to be an extended advertisement as to what comes next.
We get a bunch of action sequences that are just badly edited and not really fun to watch. The fight with Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman fighting doomsday isn’t fun as you hardly understand who is attacking it, what damage they’re doing and due to the fact they get thrown around so much it becomes nauseating and frustrating to watch.
Despite those awful fight sequences, the redeemer of the movie is Batfleck as he plays Bruce Wayne with charm and instability. His take on the Dark Knight is so brutal that it feels fresh even after having Christian Bale do a good job a few years back. His fight sequences are well choreographed and well shot, with the desert sequence showing an awesome spinning shot around Batman taking endless soldiers, and then the warehouse scene in which Batman brutally stabs, shoots and punches people into the ground. One sequences that was still fairly enjoyable was the Batmobile sequence, but the Batmobile itself irritated me. It bounced around way too much that made it look like it was a darker take on a Herbie car due to how it flung around and bounced about. It looked like it belonged in an animated feature. Despite this, Batman was awesome in the film and I’m definitely excited to see a standalone Batman film now.
Returning to the negatives, the film has such a drawn out plot that could’ve been condensed into 30 minutes before getting to the fight sequences, It was as if Snyder wanted to do what he did to Watchmen but with no plot. Also, even though Batman V Super man is the title, they literally only fight once in the film and it lasts about 5 minutes maximum and is quite ‘meh’. Straight after that they team up and bros all around.
Also I don’t see the hype about Wonder Woman. She seemed pretty cool but with how badly the fight between Doomsday was I didn’t really get the ‘awe’ some other people got. Luckily Gal Gadot played her fine so I don’t have any problems per say with her but Lex Luthor was so miscast. Eisenberg did the best he could with his ability in this film but did not come across convincing at all. Starting every sentence with a high pitched screech doesn’t make you menacing, it makes you unbelievably annoying.
Another thing that annoyed me was the Superman fake out death… Twice! This was just awful writing here, we know Superman isn’t going to die so why pretend he gets blown up by a nuke and then pretend he’s dead at the end of the film (which by the way the ending pissed me off too). Like fair enough put one fake out death for maybe a younger audience who aren’t as familiar with Superman or the really gullible idiots who buy that kind of stuff but doing it twice? That’s just pathetic writing to add in a few more minutes of ‘emotion’.
All these things annoy me but only one gets deep under my skin. The film is just an advertisement.
This is due to Bruce Wayne obtaining LexCorp information and starts going through it. He stumbles across Wonder Womans file and then – cue the epic music – shots of the picture and then a slow zoom on Wayne’s shocked expression. Even the way all the people are lined up in that photo looks like their posing for a promotional poster. Then we move onto every other file on memory stick that Luthor somehow possesses. It shows Cyborg (in an experiment with a random cube with no explanation as to what it is), Flash (no real problems with this clip just this segment makes me not enjoy it) and Aquaman (now I love Jason Momoa after Khal Drogo but the way he slowly comes towards the camera and looks at it looks like he is posing for a promotional). Now this did not give me any excitement, it actually made me sigh. If we are going to get a sneak-peak into the future DC films I’d rather they be little easter eggs, not a whole section that’s a montage of each character with music that makes everyone realise what’s happening. It was so in my face and pissed me right off.
There is then at the end of the film Bruce Wayne roughly says [to Wonder Woman] “we must find the rest of them (Justice League) so they can fight with us” to which Wonder Woman replies fight what and Bruce says “something, I’ve got a feeling”. That’s such a **** reason for him to want to find them and did not make me hyped at the end of the film.
Overall the film is messy, cluttered and too much of an advertisement for me to really enjoy. Batman is great in the film though and additionaly I must say people can’t complain about this film not having jokes like marvel films. It’s not a Marvel film and DC are known for being darker.
But still to summarise, Batman V Superman is a film made for hype but with little substance and hardly any polish to it.

Now I am not a fan of DC or of any character within their works; I however, am familiar with them.

I saw this movie tonight and made a few expectations to what might happen throughout the movie; even through moments many consider unexpected as I'm the kind of guy that does think outside the box, though I won't spoil anything here.

Most of the reviews you find from other "professional" critics would be mixed to negative and positive from the fans, even on Metacritic. What I thought of this movie was that it was thought out well and has made many points of the movie worth seeing; it's Batman versus Superman, the 'God versus Man' scenario that long-time fans have been waiting for and I guarantee you will not be disappointed at all with this movie if you're one of them.

However, not everything is flawless as one or two points of this movie has those moments; you'll catch on as it goes along, but those flaws are why the score is a 9 out of 10. By all means, this is a great movie; it has a collection of great actors like Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot; the CGI used is mind-blowing and the story has its many moments of surprises which caught me off-guard and that can only happen within well-written movies, games and TV shows.

Many reviews of the fans, both positive and negative I can agree on and why they thought of this but this short review of mine (if you can call it short) makes a summary of what was the best and worst moments of this movie.

Some may even think that the new Batsuit is a terrible design or that Ben Affleck isn't the greatest actor to fill the role of Bruce Wayne, but in all honesty, as long as this incarnation of Batman screams the "I am vengeance, I am the knight" pose, I'm fine with that.

So what I'm really trying to say here is watch the movie yourself, even if you're a fan or not of the Justice League; it is what some were waiting for and what were given is something that I consider a great constructive movie.

But, what can I say? Personally, I enjoyed "Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice" - though, that isn't to say it's without its problems. Indeed it's nowhere near as focused and as cleanly plotted as its 2013 predecessor, but there really are a bevy of things to enjoy throughout. Ben Affleck's turn as Batman is arguably the most enjoyably rendition of the Caped Crusader to date - and considering that Affleck achieves this whilst sharing half the running time of the film with Henry Cavill's Superman, that's saying a lot. Speaking of Cavill, the English actor brings yet another interesting take on Superman to the table, giving the audience a lot to think about. Jessie Eisenberg's Lex Luthor may not please all filmgoers, but his effort is evident and he's definitely crafted one of the most memorable comic book film villains in recent memory. The cameos and easter eggs aren't exactly normie-friendly, but for this self-respecting comics fan, they delivered. Props to Zach Snyder for delivering another visually dazzling debate-starter. I was a bit worried because of the critics, but in the end this movie is really great.

Affleck give us a Batman tired of fighting a never ending battle against crime and you can feel his hatred for Superman. Henry give us a Superman having to deal with the consequences of his actions. You cant just punch someone through a building and expect everyone will call you a hero.

Jesse brings a Lex who is acts like a geek who made lots on money with his intelligence but in really he is a psychopath with a huge God Complex.

Gal doesn't have much time on scene but the banter between Diane and Bruce is fun to watch.

Also the dream sequences connect well with the rest of the movie, unless you have no idea about how the powers from one of the superheroes in this movie works...

The combat sequences are really good too, and so is the music.
That being said, the movie moves a bit too fast in the last act, but nothing to destroy the movie.

Anyway this movie deserves a good 8.5-9/10. I am not sure yet, maybe a need to watch it again.

This movie had my attention from beginning to end. I found myself saying repeatedly what is going to happen next. And when you consider that a lot of the movie focused on the heroes as their alter ego's that is pretty amazing.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was epic, made me laugh, had me emotional. It is hard for me to believe that most of the average movie goers will not have the same experience.

In fact I created this account just so I could say some positive words to combat all the negativity from the critics. What I loved about it was the quick jump into action and the dramatic scenes throughout the movie. The confusing parts were some of the cut scenes and dream sequences which kind of came out of nowhere. However, knowing how Marvel played out their universe in cinema, I have faith that these are simply planting seeds for future movies. Ben Afleck – if you get a chance to read this you definitely owned the role of Batman. It's tough to play a superhero that doesn't have any superpowers – much like Iron Man. So the writing and character development needs to be very careful for it to be believable. I found it not only believable but extremely entertaining! The sheer force of Batman and his fighting in this movie was awesome. Not as much ninjitsu but more just brawler it was probably a truer reality to Batman than has ever been done before. Superman was believable in his victorious moments and in his defeat moments which was really great to see the attention to detail there. Wonder woman coming at the end added a sense of "this movie is awesome". The storyline I think relies on the viewers knowing more about the DC universe then they probably will. For true fans of the Justice League they will probably make more sense out of it. As for the negative reviews by the critics based on cinematography, plotline accuracy, shallow characters, etc. etc. etc. I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm just done with this type of negativity in order to sound educated. Analyze creative output in a circle where the depth of analysis is warranted. But this is not that place. This is a superhero movie. This is an action movie. Any over-analysis of cinematic technique and craft in bringing this story to life just takes away the fun spirit behind which super hero stories were created in the first place. I had fun watching it with my family and ultimately that's what it should be about. I will definitely see the next movies in the DC superhero universe! Thanks to all who helped making Batman V Superman for the care and attention to detail in this debut milestone film. Expand

For me though even though I thought it seemed overlong as it tried to set up the Justice league etc. this was an amazing film and once you see the Batfleck in this in action, there's no going back to the Nolanverse Batman (unless you want to see the best joker in film.. so far) as the fight scenes and aeriel action you see are straight out the comics and that is the Batman I've been waiting to see.

Superman is still trying to find his place in the world in this movie and I thought the movie did a great job portraying that, however inspiring Superman is, there will always be those who are concerned if someone so powerful could turn on us and as they boy scout he is, he's concerned about what others think and comes across as genuinely pained as to whether he can be all good in this world.

Wonder Woman is amazing in this, no spoilers as people will have seen the trailers but when she turns up and is in a tough fight she is amazing and deserved more screen time, there's a bit where she gets hit hard and the smile on her face as she went back for more was incredible, I can't wait for that film now.

All in all, not a perfect film by any means but I thought it was a great way to start the DC universe and I have to give an extra point to DC just for some of the ballsy decisions made here as there are parts of this film I thought I'd never see on the big screen even though I knew this was a Batman v Superman movie.

9 out of 10 and a must see for me.

First of all, it's one of the rare time that I see a movie like this where the heroes actually have another goal that just kicking the bad guy's ass and going out with the girl at the end. The plot takes its time to set up and that's great too, you don't have a two hours long movie with just battles, and god, that's refreshing.

I wasn't convinced by Affleck at first, but now, I have to admit that he is a great Batman and a great Bruce Wayne, quite different from Bale, but great nonetheless. Cavill didn't change since Men of Steel.

I just took my son and we had a blast - there is much to like here. There is the initial storyline of batman versus superman, then it gets better by introducing many new DC superhero characters (including the amazing Wonder Woman). The atmosphere throughout is dark, with little comedic lines to break up the drama and action - but that is better than cheesy lines that distract from the seriousness of the movies. I applaud the director, Zack Snyder, as this had to be a very difficult task for him and his team - they did a great job and I look forward to many more DC movies to come. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Re-watched BvS earlier and I still don't understand all the hate. The criticisms I had after the first watch soon felt petty. Flaws were present, sure, but the aesthetics and just the keen sense of realism it exuded made me doubt the critics/reviews I read after more - especially the ones making a huge fuss about its flaws like it's the worst they've seen. First and foremost, it's not bad. At all. The cinematography was beautiful - it felt like I was flipping pages from a graphic novel.
Superman, however "depressing" he seemed to others, gave me the impression of growth and vast introspection. I was blind to his character growth because I was too busy thinking he's supposed to just do the right thing and be Superman and not think. But he wasn't just Superman. Behind the cape, he was still battling a sense of responsibility and self-entitlement he owed to nobody, constantly weighing himself on flat ground.
Ben Affleck absolutely killed it as both Batman and Bruce. Still, Batman didn't make all the right decisions and that's his biggest imperfection - that he's still a mortal, a human - flawed, even after being in the business for 20 years. Ultimately imo, that gave more room for the future films to further elaborate what this character could be. The dream sequences/visions made more sense too. I thought they were unnecessary at first but it showed a disturbed Bruce Wayne. Bruce was never a mentally healthy person, adding that to his age and it made sense to me why he acted in ways he did. He's more experienced and he doesn't go dilly dallying.
Lex Luthor also made more sense. His motives have been, for the most part, underlying. He's conniving, manipulative and pure evil. He dropped hints here and there, revealed his nature, his intentions, but I think it flew over my brain during the first screening. He's a really twisted Lex. I believe Eisenberg's performance was not lacklustre in any range. If anything, he pulls it off. Just differently. His character has a lot of potential, again, imo, to show different sides. He could be brooding, he could be sinister, insane, borderline Joker or all at once. Or everything he's shown up till now could all be pretense and part of a coping mechanism to suppress his madness.
Irons as Alfred was great casting!
Gal Gadot was a Goddess as Wonder Woman. She was just badass. Graceful, intelligent, beautiful. She had a reason for being in the film btw for all you saying she was pointless.

(Spoiler: LexCorp, Metahuman experiments. That was her reason.)

The 3rd act definitely could've used less CGI, but hey, in its defense, it was Doomsday.

The film has great depth. It mirrors more of ourselves and how we see things. Though it felt like cut scenes jumping from one another, the end tied it up together. It wasn't as incoherent as everyone is making it out to be. (At least for me.) It actually made sense in the end. It gradually tied up to the plot, played with a lot of symbols, used factors that seemed out of place but later connected little pieces. The editing was haphazard, but it's really just.. different than usual. It's divisive. It's like laying out various planks before placing each in correct positions to form a proper floor structure. Others may like it, others who don't like unfamiliar/odd would probably be annoyed with it. The movie had issues, many of which are obvious and piques the interests of negative press, but it was a great watch and imo succeeded in launching a platform for the DCEU. I was thoroughly entertained and kept on the edge of my seat.

I don't understand how 'The Force Awakens' gets near universal praise (when it was terrible in my opinion), but this film gets slammed. The only thing I can figure is that Disney owns Marvel, and Disney owns the media...

Anyways, to the film... Completely different than Marvel's films - and that's a good thing. Zack Snyder is catching way too much flak when he indeed did exactly what a DC universe needed. Why would we want two comic book franchises doing the exact same thing? The acting was good universally, but I was most surprised by Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. Looking forward to the next chapter in the series.

Zack Snyder's Batman (and Superman) films seem like they were written and directed by a 12 year old who obviously loves comic books but doesn't have a clue how to put them to film. Mishmash of story telling that takes a back seat to lots and lots of CGI that doesn't even look that technically excellent for such a big budget film I skipped the reviews and social media until I saw the film so my opinion is my own and it happens to coincide with the consensus of critics. Batman v Superman is not a good comic book superhero movie. Nearly 3 years of incessant marketing hype about this movie that makes me feel cheated in 2-1//2 hours. This film is not even remotely in the same league of excellence as The Dark Knight. It truly is the most disappointing superhero film I have ever seen. The long run time of films is generally not a problem for me if I am engaged in what is happening on the screen. The most interesting part of my 2-1/2 hour experience was listening to a group of older teenage boys sitting in front of me rate Wonder Woman's overall body and specific parts, on a scale of 1 to 10. Suffice it say, she scored very highly with these fans, but the movie not so much Expand

My take on Batman vs Superman (Spoiler Free)
If you were worried about Ben Affleck as Batman or Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, don't be. Both pulled off their roles very well.
Theater applauded when Wonder Woman appeared. Nicely setup.
Lots of scenes ripped straight from the comics and even the videogames (great easter eggs I don't want to spoil).
Fight scenes were well done. Not the mess in Man of Steel.
Biggest flaw was the pacing of the first hour. Slow.
No end credit scenes. Feel free to leave when the credits roll.
Not kid friendly.

Im failing to understand how reviewers have ended up giving it a 44 metacritic (At the time or writing); Cause this isnt anywhere near that level movie. Maybe they need to start giving themselves a structure to follow, five categories each with 20 points e.g. story, effects, acting, music and misc as they have not done the movie justice with there reviews.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

While there wasn't enough when the big moments happened it was great. I will also say I enjoyed the Hans Zimmer score. The biggest problem is the characters motivations and in the case of other Zack Snyder films the overall story. I will give Snyder credit for the different tone he tried to set, but there are just to many issues that take you out of the film. Jesse Eisenberg need to develop a little more.

Best things in the movie:
The actors acting in their heroes roles, good interpretation and dedication to the roles.
What needs improvement:
Zack Snyder (the director) should stop megalomaniac Michael Bay explosions.
Jesse Eisenberg needs to improve Lex Luthor.

I think a lot of negative reviews are due to the fact that, given the source material; arguably the 2 most famous superheroes in the world, Snyder could only pull off something like this.
To put it in to perspective, you give your brother $100 to buy firecrackers for the 4th of July and he brings back a whole pile of cherry bombs. It's fun to watch, but you're never awed and lament what it could have been.

I did enjoy the movie. It's Superman and Batman for god's sake. And Wonder Woman was a nice surprise.
I loved Affleck's Batman. Made Bale's Batman look like a Sunday school teacher.
Eisenberg seemed to be channeling both Ledger's Joker and Jim Carrey's Riddler.
He was good, but I don't think Lex Luthor needed to be a goofy psycho. (I hoped Mark Strong would've been Luthor, one can dream..)
Most glaring issue with the movie is that it jumps around, a lot. Fire the editor and hopefully Snyder for the future films.
Hopefully, blu-ray will add deleted scenes to minimize the gaps, jumps.

Slightly overlong in term of running time, the film opens surprisingly beautiful with flashback of Wayne's disastrous childhood and further progresses into the reckless fight between Superman and Zod at the end of previous installment. The ambitious and potential major acts in the film - conflict between Batman and Superman, Lex Luthor's motives and the fight against villain at the climax; all seems to be underdeveloped and not well executed, leaving several questions of all the intentions behind. Ben Affleck as Batman is on par with Bale's version but a bit more brutal and stubborn, Cavill's Superman is fine but a bit depressed, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is definitely the gorgeous one and she manages to capture the attentions even with a limited screening time, Jeremy Iron's Alfred owns a great chemistry with Wayne but Eisenberg portrayal of Lex Luthor is over exaggerated. Although heavily CGIs, Snyder has delivered spectacular visual effects and intense actions among the superheroes while the collaboration between Zimmer and Junkie XL are just outstanding to produce different adrenaline driven theme scores for all the superheroes. While it might not be the best superheroes flick, lacks of humors and emotional depth compared to The Dark Knight trilogy, it is an overall improvement from Man of Steel and the Nolan style ending is still impressive enough to further expands into the universe of Justice League. **Spoilers**

After seeing this movie twice I went from liking it to loving it!
-I love what they've done with Superman. He's at a point where he sees no matter how much good he does there will always be those who put a spin his deeds. The scene where they had the people on talk shows and only one person says maybe he's not a God or a demon but just a guy trying to do the right thing hit the nail on the head.
-I loved what they did with Lex! His motivation was that he needed to be the one with the power, with meta humans alive especially one like superman he could never have that. Like he says he has all the knowledge of who those beings are but no power over them. Hints the knowledge withought power is paradoxical line. Also it seems like Lex found something out on the kryptonian ship that started driving him little bit insane.
-Lex is able to take over the Kryptonian ship because it still had the master key in it. Remember in Mos Zod says that key has the power to overwrite previous protocols.
-This batman isn't stupid he's just driven and angry and Lex is genius enough to know how to play his emotions just right. So look at it more like Lex is crazy smart just like in the comics.
-I think Batman also misinterpreted the flashes message, and it reinforced he was doing the right thing.
-I love that superman sacrificing himself mad batman re-evaluate how he was doing things and made him feel like he failed the idea superman actually represented.
-Doomsday wasn't the best thing ever but it wasn't so bad it ruined the movie for me. Plus the fight and seeing bats, sups and wonder women working together was AMAZING!
-Was killing superman now any less impactful than it would ever be? Really you know it's not going to be permanent matter when they do it. I think Snyder has some mad balls doing this and the impacts to the story are awesome. Superman's sacrifice is the catalysy to bringing the meta humans together and creating the justice league.
-Wonder Woman was amazing
-Ben Affleck is the best batman

My only real complaint is that you can tell scenes were cut for time. Other than that I'm pumped for what's coming next! 9/10 for me

The positives are that Ben Affleck is an amazing Batman and Gal Gadot shines as Wonder Woman. The action scenes are pretty awesome, especially the warehouse scene and the Doomsday fight.

But as I said, the pacing is really off and it makes it hard to enjoy the film. The scenes are very choppy and it jumps so quickly from one story to the next that you can't get really invested in what's going on. For two minutes you're watching a scene with Lois Lane, then the next minute and half it's Lex Luthor, and then another two minutes it's Bruce Wayne. The point is the movie just doesn't flow naturally and it almost feels like a chore to get through.

Some more negatives are first Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. To put it simply he is playing just about every character he has played (i.e., Socially Awkward Guy) except now he is a super-villain. I mean really, it's Mark Zuckergerg if Zuckerberg was where somehow in the DC Universe. Another thing is the Justice League cameos and set-up. It's so lazily done that you could literally see the screenwriters and director adding it in as almost an afterthought months after filming had ended. There is also a nightmare scenario that will make sense to comic fans, but for your average audience they might be scratching their heads like "Huh?".

In the end, there were a few good things in this film but unfortunately they do not make up for all the bad. This film really doesn't bode well for the WB and it's attempts to make a DC cinematic universe, because if this is what the films are going to look like then it all could turn out to be a massive disappointment.

Let me preface this by saying I'm a comic book and Superman fan.

This was a good and entertaining movie. I had no trouble following it like some have been claiming. My only complaint is too much was crammed into it. It's a comic book film that takes itself seriously (I like that) and doesn't bombard the audience with one liners and corniness every three minutes. A few of the scenes in this movie were very dark, and I liked that. I believe Superman was given excellent treatment for those of you worrying.

We did not get much Wonder Woman so I'm a little bit mixed on her, but the audience went nuts when she showed up. The action scenes may be the best I've ever seen in a movie. Based on my experience watching this movie I would give it a ten, but if I look on the quality of the movie the score is 8.
There are problems in this film. As a person who knows a little bit about Dc I got most of the references, but to person who knows nothing it may get a little bit confusing. Sometimes the editing was a little bit weird too.
I would say you should watch this movie multiple times in the theaters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (There is a tl;dr at the bottom)This film is not the best, but that does not mean you should not see this movie. As a person that has not seen many Batman movies (Boo!), Ben Affleck was still a great Batman based on regular acting standards. The rest of the cast is great, especially Amy Adams and Gal Gadot. There are some unnecessary scenes , and some things are left unanswered(Like superman's death, which was beyond upsetting and sad). Jesse Eisenburg is tolerable, but far from great. The film also has a ton of destruction, and that the Climax came from Micheal Bay's wet dream but whatever. Doomsday was unnecessary, and it could have just been Lex that brings the heroes together.

TL:DR Great acting, unnecessary stuff, tons of explosions. Sad ending

The movie makes a few bald choices that you would never expect in a super-hero movie, which is a positive and negative at the same time. The other problem is that the writing is all over the place and the editing is very choppy. The tone as well is not for everybody and I would definitely not take kids to watch this movie due to how mature it is in some scenes. That being said, if you give this movie a chance, you will get the best Batman and Bruce Wayne you have ever seen on the big screen, you will gasp at the stunning visuals and cinematography and you will also be entertained by every action set-piece. In the end, how much you like the movie will be determined by how much you can forgive. Expand

This film is just a mess. Is trying to set itself up like the MCU (not a bad thing), but it does it so awfully. Just throws these random scenes in every now and then.
Lex Luthor is portrayed horrendously. He is nothing like the comics have set him up as. Should have really used Injustice, or Smallville, or other Superman films for inspiration. But BvS' Lex is just absurd. It's almost as though they were trying to go for a Joker vibe, which is ridiculous. Lex is controlled chaos, Joker is apocalyptic anarchy.
Ultimately with everything they've tried to set up, the end product feels so rushed because they wasted so much time on pieces that impacted the film in no way at all.
In short,
Affleck is a good Batman
Cavill is alright as Superman (was better in MoS)
Gadot is a good Wonder Woman (surprised me)
Eisenberg is an awful Lex Luthor

In my opinion, Batman should have had his solo film first. to more establish him in the DCU, instead of what just felt like shoe horning him in.

Though admittedly Batman v Superman suffers from a lot of pacing, characterization and plot issues, there is still a very likeable and, in some aspects, tremendous movie underneath the flaws.

Starting by addressing the positives, and the biggest positive to take out of this movie is that Ben Affleck is, in my opinion, the best on screen Bruce Wayne/Batman we have ever received. The scenes at the beginning of the movie setting up Batman's motives, as well as answering the question from Man of Steel of "Where was Batman?", are among the best scenes within the movie, and the dynamic between Bruce and Alfred (who was brilliantly portrayed by Jeremy Irons) is something that is underused considering how much else is crammed into the film. The action though out the film is exceptional, which is one of the aspects that Zack Snyder does not disappoint on in any of his films. Though it takes a while to get there, the fight between Batman and Superman really highlights the strengths of both heroes, from Batman's clever gadget use to Superman's brute force. Going back to Batman, the scene that sees him take out a room full of thugs is something straight out of the comics or Arkham games, and it's the brutal, terrifying Batman that we deserve. Wonder Woman, surprisingly, is also a highlight in the movie, and her part in the battle with Doomsday is, arguably, the best part of the whole movie. The reason I say Wonder Woman is a highlight and not Gal Godot is that, without the action, Gal speaks no more than 12 lines in the movie. Can she hold her solo movie scheduled for next year? That remains to be seen, but the Wonder Woman character as a whole was used brilliantly. The score and musical themes, Wonder Woman's in particular being exceptional, are all fantastic.

I will not use the term 'main issues' because there would be too many 'main issues' to discuss, so I will highlight what particularly dragged this film down from my point of view. Jesse Eisenburg is horribly miscast. Though admittedly he does not play Lex Luthor, as he plays his son Alexander, this character was flawed every time he appeared on screen, and the mannerisms that Eisenburg adds to the character are totally unwelcome and no different to any of his other performances in any of his other movies. Though Batman's motives were explained excellently, that left the motives of Superman slightly up in the air. As I can't really discuss this without spoilers, all I will say is people, including myself, will be disappointed as the motives are no where near as driven and determined as those of Batman. Adding on, apart from Batman, pretty much every character involved in the movie is hugely underdeveloped. Focus is lost on Superman, Alexander Luthor's motives are unclear thoughout, Jeremy Iron's Alfred is hugely underutilized and Doomsday as a whole made me think, does anyone really care about this poor creature? Though the action is incredible once Doomsday enters the fray, bringing him in is completely rushed, and therefore non-comic fans will not realise how big a threat Doomsday actually is, as his introduction has absolutely no significance on the story for most fans. Horrendous editing will make most movie-goers confused, as it seems in some parts of the movie there seem to be scenes missing out, whether the editors just cut scenes out at will to drag the movie down to two and a half hours remains to be seen. The actors also did very well to work with some dialogue, due to some poor writing, but even actors of Henry Cavill's standard can not rescue some truely awful written lines. Finally, plot twists and dream sequences that would make sense to die-hard comic fans might leave regular viewers out in the cold. Even I, a huge DC fan, had to look up some things in the film as soon as I got home, as it was left unclear throughout the film.

There are parts of this movie that people will love, and parts that people will absolutely hate. Within all the flaws there are some extraordinary little gems of dialogue or well-worked sequences that really pick up parts of the movie, but those parts are only let down by other aspects of the film. It is not the 9/10 or 10/10 that everyone wanted or expected it to be, but I was still on the edge of my seat and did not want the two and a half hour movie to end. From a fan's perspective, I could have given this movie a 7/10 just because I can finally see my two favourite superheroes on screen together for the first time, with some incredible action. But, I feel 6/10 is an above-par score for an above-par movie. I recommend everyone to go and watch it, just lower your expectations, and you'll have a blast.

Much prefer this interpretation to the sanitized world depicted in marvel movies. Would have liked more of the b v s fight, but even in the book, that wasn't a large number of panels - the years since have made the battle larger. Affleck well conveys the psychotic rage that would have to drive someone willing to do what the batman does. Don't get the anti-doomsday crowd at all. The lead-up to DD was a little rushed, but overall made sense in context. WW was awesome, wish they had kept that more of a surprise, but can't wait to see her movie, and felt she was an effective part of this one. Expand

As far as action and setting up the much-darker-than-competition sequels this hallmark is sure to produce, Batman v Superman does a superb job. Unfortunately at the expense of the viewer, sometimes the movie tries to do too much with too little.

Casting was a hit or miss; Aflecks Batman and Gadot's Wonder Woman were great choices and worthy of spinoffs. Supporting roles like Alfred (Jeremy Irons) and Senator Finch (Holly Hunter) did what they could with the little or no character building they recieved.

Overall 8/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v Supes was supposed to be the sequel to Superman, yet somewhere in the mind of Warner Bros they lost faith in Superman. So... What we have is a long convoluted movie that teases throughout in a plot that has more holes than a colander. I really wanted to like this movie but at times found myself looking at the watch. The best scenes are the trailers, yet great actors are left to secondary roles that could've been done with cgi versions of them because their screen time was deplorable. See it again and you will notice that all women which are superb actors are given roles that are clichés: Amy Adams and Diane Lane, damsel in distress and caring mom, respectively. Holly Hunter, whom Zach Snyder always wanted to work with is relegated to a role that could've been done by any B actress. She is a superb actress at the level of the others, but thankfully she didn't play mom or damsel in distress. Jesse Eisenberg is over the top playing a cliche of a villain. Don't know what people see in him but he is Jesse Eisenberg playing a fast talking, rambling, pseudo genius, trying to be Heath Ledger: failed. Cavil and Affleck are really good in their roles, Affleck surprisingly sold it, yet all his brooding was over the top. I wanted to yell, I get it, you are hurt. Snyder always like to milk things and preach... but ends up boring us. Take for example the constant "its an island, non populated... it's an abandon place... etc." Well, in battles there is collateral damage... yet here, he was probably told or wanted to say we don't have to destroy things and kill the innocent.
I kept thinking... if Christopher Nolan was producing, why didn't he intervene and say... "Hmm... Zach... you are losing sight of the story and doing your CGI explode this explode that thing with no story telling plot." For example what was Gal Gadot doing throughout the whole movie besides waiting to turn into Wonder Woman? Investigating Lex Luthor? The inevitable battle and its justification between Batman and Superman not only it was predictable it was a letdown. Really Zach? You think we were so dumb we would not get it? It is my judgment that the role of Lex Luthor should've gone to someone with more chops, I dare say, a British villain? Since Heath Ledger is not around, what a Joker! And only mature seasoned talented actors can portray the complexities and genius of Lex, we need someone who can do this... Ah, if only Alan Rickman was youngish and around, what a superb Lex Luthor he would've been. Or the actor who plays Moriarty in Sherlock, Andrew Scott... he would have stolen the show. Yet, I wonder what people see in Jesse Eisenberg who keeps playing Zuckerberg in every film he makes: a one dimensional character ranting diatribes with his high pitch stacato trademark -- a bad version of Woody Allen. Alfred, what a waste of talent for Jeremy Irons... Michael Caine can rest assured he was Alfred. Not Jeremy's fault. He was given lines and scenes that had no depth or continuity. At least we see in this version that Alfred is a techie and mechanic. One more thing, is there a shortage of razors for shaving in Gotham?
I hate to make comparisons but someone should put a leash on Zach Snyder (as they did with Kevin Costner) directing. Sometimes, you need someone who can tell a story and not just put panels together. Film is film, not a comic book, graphic novel, and/or cgi video game. We want a compelling story we can watch, a battle between man versus god was more like a battle between CGI and telling a story. CGI one.

Here's a spoiler alert: In the video game Injustice: Gods Among US, it is Superman who has become angry, brooding, and tyrannical against superheroes and villains. Lois and his daughter are killed. Luthor made him do it, he tricks him to believe she is Doomsday. THAT is a story that explains why Superman is feared he is powerful and deadly. Yet, it was already done in a video game.

In the Dark Knight Rises, Batman detonates a nuke over the ocean (coastline of Metropolis too), leaving the ocean radioactive for years to come... just as this movie. It is not an immediate kill, but a long term, one dashing our hopes for a better DC movie. I think Warner Bros should trust successful directors and writers deal with this material. See how CW has dealt with the Arrow, Flash, and sigh, Supergirl (hey why didn't she help or the Flash?). Learn from these shows, learn also from NetFlix's Daredevil and Jessica Jones... not about hating DC. I wanted this to be as successful as the Dark Knight and to an extent, the Man of Steel. In the end, we are robbed of the advertisement hype which worked for Deadpool and failed here.

What keeps it afloat is the performance of Ben Affleck, the promising introduction of Wonder Woman and Snyder's ability to depict visual grandeur.
Affleck is the perfect representation of Batman/Bruce Wayne and I can't imagine anyone else topping it now. A solo Batman flick with him has great potential - if Leto's Joker is up to scratch we could be looking at a great conflict one day.

Where to start? The whole fight between Batman and Superman was less then 5 minutes and 90% of the fight was in the trailers already, the longggg build up with the pointless bullet plot was boring, it was just a mess. Affleck is one amazing Batman, have to give credit where its due, but Cavill is still a horribly wooden Superman, and surely I dont need to mention how painfully awful the new Luthor is, i actually turned my head away in the cinema to avoid the cringe he provides to the story. The setting up for other films was so lazily done and stupid, did Lex design there logos too in this universe lol? Speaking of stupid, Lois Lane gets saved like three times during the film, she is so irritating and pointless. The final act with Doomsday, the disgusting ugly troll was just filled with CGI explosions, nothing about it made sense, from how he became real to why they even used him in the first place, such a wasted opportunity if you know what he looks like and can do in the comics. He has a second form where he does nothing new and pebbles come from his back too, so theres that. Superman does 'die' and what a dreadful mistake to make, killing him off this early is beyond idiotic for obvious reasons, but we all know he isnt going to stay dead which means using the death of Superman for another film in the future is going to have no emotional impact whatsoever. Overall the film is a rushed mess, there was some nice cinematography and as i said before Batfleck is great but all this film did was waste my money, biggest disapointment in years.

Zack Snyder reaches his ambitious goal, thanks to his new hero, performed by Ben Affleck, perfectly in part and added value of the film (he's really superb here). Thanks to the actor of Berckley, Bruce Wayne captures an unusual maturity, intended as desire introspective too, and a charm with sensual veining, presage of a change which, I hope, the screenplay will outline more clearly in the work ahead.
My vote is 7.5.

It has a lot of catching up to do and hence it burdens the film. For 1 1/2 hour, the film is essentially a slow build up. It explains the world, it explains who Batman is, what's happening to Superman, and many other things. It creaks under its own weight. But somehow due to the commitment of its cast, and the 'manic' energy of its director, Dawn of Justice pulls through. Let's get this out of the way: the critics are not wrong in pinpointing the film's pitfalls, but by giving it such a low score, it also does the audience a great disservice. It is a great film, but clearly not the best there is. An apt comparison is of reading two graphic novels in one sitting (and it is based on two of them: to state the titles will spoil the flick ;P). Revelations: Affleck is a great Wayne / Batman. Gal Gadot...wow. The new Wonder Woman film couldn't come any sooner. Watch it and support it. It is not the Transformers of superheroes as the critics would call it. Expand

Did you think it couldn't get worse than Man of Steel? Well boy were you wrong. Picking up from where Man of Steel left off the story continues, and we get more destruction, a sorry excuse at building tension between the characters, more destruction, oh look there's Wonder Woman, and an ending that seemed endless.
I'm not even going to fault Henry Cavill or Ben Affleck, they're far from the biggest problem (I don't particularly like Affleck as Batman but at least he didn't sink as bad as Val Kilmer). A superhero movie is only as good as its villain and we've got two of the worst in a long time. Lex Luthor played by Jesse Eisenberg and Doomsday (and no that's not a spoiler cause it's in the freakin' trailer). I'm not going to forgive Zach Snyder for this mess of a movie and I'm certainly not going to forgive Eisenberg for the most over acted and ridiculous performance of his career. Over the top and manic, almost like he tried to combine every villain character into one, it's just awful. No point in me giving a recommendation, if you like superhero movies you're going to see this no matter what I say, just like I went to see it, and that's why we'll get another one.

If you want to see some special effects, you wont be disappointed. In 2000ths one could see cars exploding, in 2010ths we could see buildings exploding, now we can see entire cities exploding. I'm afraid in the next movie they will blow up The Earth itself :)
First part of the movie was way too creepy - I didn't like it, this is not a horror after all. And why Ben Affleck? WTF is Ben Affleck, they could invite Rob Schneider with the same success.
Second part Batman and Superman try to determine whose chin is more square (Green Guy almost won Square Chin Competition). This part is full of explosions, lightning, space, green guys, and benafflecks. I liked everything but the last part.
Nice movie overall, worth watching, especially if you liked first movie, but Man of Steel was ... more solid probably? Man of Steel had it simple plot, and here plot is way too twisted. For drama movies this is good, but not for this one. 6-7 of ten.

the reason why critics are bashing this movie, is because they have a preconceived idea of a superhero movie, established for Marvel and Disney. this is a different approach of the genre; in my personal opinion is all good. i loved the movie

People are saying about the pacing of the movie.
But like someone have said, the movie works like a comic book.
One scene jump to another, like a comic book where a panel jump to another.
Comics are disjunctive like this movie. And the aesthetic used by Snyder is like that found in cmoic books.
The scenes break abruptly, one jump to another, goes and come, like the panels in the comics
Zack Snyder made a comic movie

I thing Affleck did a terrific job, Gal Gadot was perfect as WW and Cavill is improving after each movie.

The rest of the cast was very good, with Irons being maybe the best.

Great action, cinematography, soundtrack...

This movie doesn't deserve the low ratings, give it an opportunity because it deserves one.

They've been drinking the Marvel movie verse Koolaid for quite sometime I guess. Yes, this is a seriously toned movie and that is just perfect. It is OK to have a different take on superheroes and have them pondering serious issues with a realistic take. It is a different take on superhoics and i welcome this new perspective. These are heroes with a tragic background and it is very true to their source origins. But there's a lot of heart and hope as well. Not a single boring moment. I can't wait for the follow up in Justice League. Expand

Ben Affleck as Batman is the best onscreen batman to date, he's brutal, fast and unforgiving when he's fighting he is ACTUALLY fighting, it's crazy. Ben Affleck also gives a fantastic performance as Bruce Wayne, we see this playboy act he puts on but deep down inside we see his fear, he's scared Superman could wipe out the entire human race if he wanted to and Batman's angry at Superman as Superman indirectly killed thousands of innocent people, we see in the film that some of those people are his friends, Superman is angry with Batman as he feels his methods are too brutal and he is a criminal. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman gives an exceptional performance just like Jeremy Irons does as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor gives a 'different' take on the character but it's a good one, he's insane, menacing and will do anything and kill anyone to get his own way. In short if you're a comic book fan this film was made for YOU. It has numerous references to comics from things the characters say to actual plot devices...I would give this film a 9/10 it is THE best comic book film to date and the critics online trashing it..well....THEY'RE WRONG. I've truly enjoyed the universe Zack Snyder has created with these characters in just 2 films. In my opinion people should view these films as their own universe and forget of what a character should be like, based on how that character has been depicted in the past. I truly enjoyed this movie and can't wait to own it. Expand

During the first half of the movie we have a lot of found emotions, reflections and a very good presentation of the caracters. The rhythm of the movie in this half is very good, with a development of caracters it feels natural and little forced. The big problem of this movie comes in the second half, than we can find some inconsistencies and its feels a little forced and acelerated and is obvious that dc is desesperate. A good point of the movie is the big quantity of comic references and the fabulous introduction of justice league caracters which was pretty good. 7/10 Expand

Greatest comic book movie of all time. Brilliant story - realistic, gritty, dark - a welcome break from Marvel's campy fantasy. And an ending that will break your heart. What a setup for the DCCU and JL.

Overall I had some fun with the film but has much room for improvement

The colours would switch between dark and muted tones. Jumpy cuts, the movie lacked direction or focus until the main fight scene. Underwhelming music and normal fight scenes. If you take out the subplot of Batman vs. Superman you end up with a better movie focused around Justice League and Lex Luthor. Instead you get multiple meandering and confusing, without being intelligent, subplots. Motivations of Batman and Superman did not make sense. Overall a less than average movie and a poor start a Justice League I want to enjoy. Expand

Probably the biggest Superman fan for 36 years of my life that I know of, and I have to say Zack Snyder and the entire cast of Batman v Superman should be congratulated for their deliverance of such an intricate truly entertaining film. I've seen it twice already and will soon be going a 3rd time if that's not testament to how much I've enjoyed it well I don't know what else is. From the opening credits to the witty clever jokes and one liners
through out the film, I now know and understand how Superman fits into a very cynical world such as ours and the kind of sacrifice it takes to make people believe that there is good in the world still. I must have sobbed for 5 to 10 minutes though towards the end (You know where Zack!), but the film has definitely in my mind set an exceptionally high bar for the films to follow it and this fan is hungry for the historical coming together of the JLA. Thank you Hans and XL Junkie for your magnificent score, I find my self humming the opening credits scene often! I would like to encourage all my fellow DC fans to see the film, and their parents who also grew up with their children watching these characters over the years, this really was a dream come true for me.
Lastly I wish to thank everyone who worked so tirelessly to make this beautiful piece of comic art and history, the many hours and time away from your families to give us HOPE in the world once more.

Thanks Supacam731

Now the time has come to save 'Batman' again, from the clutches of the director Zack Snyder. Though 'Man of Steel' was a dud, he didn't improve much but kept on repeating the same mistake with his aimless direction. This movie has heavy inspirations from 'The Dark Knight Returns' (comic and the animated movie) but this film couldn't even maintain the standards of the animated movie. Though most of the movie is a mind game played by Lex Luthor, the whole plot with lousy screenplay was painful to watch. The only good thing the director has done was casting the perfect crew. All the characters gave their best but the plot of the movie was filled with flaws and loopholes.

Verdict : GOD SAVE 'DC UNIVERSE FROM ZACK SNYDER..

I enjoy movies, but I love well made movies. This is a well crafted, well made movie as far the super hero genre goes. I have seen 95% of the super hero movies and I can honestly say I think this is just about my favorite one, its dark, gritty and beautiful. Lots of epic scenes and imagery that will stay with you. Well done to the whole team that made this movie.

Awesome movie! Get up and go see it.
Perfect in every aspect 11/10! Can't wait to watch the sequel.
In the beginning, I have doubts about the Ben Affleck work in this movie, but he did his job very well.
