    Best Paper Mario game since TTYD and a great RPG.

    The music is great. The characters are awesome. There are unique rememberable ones and then also hilarious funny ones. Tons of production value in this game, I'm honestly surprised. I can't really say anything without spoilers but the team who made this must have had a blast. Combat gets a little old but it is fast which makes    Best Paper Mario game since TTYD and a great RPG.

    The music is great.

    The characters are awesome. There are unique rememberable ones and then also hilarious funny ones.

    Tons of production value in this game, I'm honestly surprised. I can't really say anything without spoilers but the team who made this must have had a blast.

    Combat gets a little old but it is fast which makes up for it. I haven't wanted to skip any enemy I see yet.

    I love your companions.

Kensuke Tenabe needs to stay far away from this franchise that so many of us hold near and dear. We need Koizumi to take the next one over and have FULL CREATIVE CONTROL. They could’ve easily built upon the mechanics we loved about the first two games.     Definitivamente uno de los mejores de la saga jugabilidad entretenida que apantalla pero enrealidad es bastante simple gráficos los esperados y una historia simple pero funcional aunque me parece que es demasiado simple y sin chiste

    Paper Mario es un juego muy divertido, muchos ignorantes lo trataron de repetitivo, pero es todo lo contrario, las batallas te hacen pensar y con cada nuevo enemigo, hace que plantees aún más la estrategia y para que decir de los jefes.     Outstanding game. Characterization is great, lots of humor and the world is a wonder to explore. The battles are very fun. Even standard battles can have a good challenge with initial enemy setups. The boss battles are some of the most fun I’ve had in a game - all require strategy or things can downhill fast.     Everything about the game is great except for the battling. I find myself fleeing or avoiding battles since I have no motive other than coins.

    I love this game, and im only on chapter 2! Very fun, and beautiful worlds, and plenty of secrets to find. I don't mind the battle system too much, I think it's fun enough. The graphics are great! it's story is good enough , this game is great! I recommend you buy this, and play it for yourself!

    Just like Breath of the Wild is a phenomenal game, despite not necessarily catering to the usual Zelda formula, The Origami King is itself an overall great experience... but if you go into it expecting a true successor to the original Paper Mario or its critically & commercially lauded sequel (TTYD), you're going to be left feeling a bit short-changed.

    Regardless, this is definitively    Just like Breath of the Wild is a phenomenal game, despite not necessarily catering to the usual Zelda formula, The Origami King is itself an overall great experience... but if you go into it expecting a true successor to the original Paper Mario or its critically & commercially lauded sequel (TTYD), you're going to be left feeling a bit short-changed.

    Regardless, this is definitively the best game to arrive in the post-Super Paper Mario era of the series. And while the at-times convoluted battle system has incited quite a bit of controversy (I personally go back and forth on it), I think that to base your entire opinion of this game on that does a huge disservice to the aspects in which it excels. The writing (and humor!) are spectacular; the overworld, more vast, beautiful, and interconnected than we've ever experienced in a Paper Mario game; the soundtrack, one of the best & most diverse Nintendo has put out in years; the plot, surprisingly deep and positively rife with Easter eggs & little nods to the series' history. In fact, one of the game's "chapters" had me feeling so nostalgic for another all-time Nintendo classic that I couldn't help but smile for the whole 3 or 4 hours it took to complete it - you'll recognize it too, when you get there. (And yes, each chapter really is that fleshed out with multiple "dungeons", bosses, areas, etc. Not to mention the HUNDREDS of collectibles, many of which are extremely well-hidden, spread across the world - this will no doubt be completionists' favorite Paper Mario.)

    TL;DR - It's no PM64 or TTYD, nor does it necessarily try to be. But where the previous two titles in this series have done less with more, The Origami King at last does more with less. 8.4 / 10    … Expand

    Another great installment in the Paper Mario series, I’ve always loved the last two games and this one is similar to those. Funny dialogue, tough puzzles/fights, and even a little bit of story this time. I recommend!

    Für mich ist dies ein sehr gutes Paper Mario. Es hat ein gutes Kampfsystem, außerdem ist wieder eine richtige Story vorhanden. Für mich bekommt dieses Spiel 10 Punkte, allerdings kommt auch dieses Game nicht an Paper Mario 2 heran. Da geht noch was Nintendo.

    Paper Mario The Origami King is a fun game, with a beautiful graphics and great boss battles, but, it carries many things from Sticker Star and Color Slash, generic NPCs, useless battle system, weak story and null progression system, Origami King was much better than Sticker Star and Color Splash but it is still behind the first three games

    This game is actually really good. Sure it is not like TTYD but it is still a fun game. The battles are actually fun. People just don't like it because it's not like TTYD or even Super Paper Mario... I just find it unfortunate that the reviews have to be bombed.

    Is not the perfect paper Mario, but have one of the best soundtracks and have a good open world. Combat mixed whit puzzles are nice and the comedia dialogues are good.

    Good game overall. After playing for ~4 hours I can tell this is an exploration game, where you have to find hidden toads, treasures and hidden blocks. You battle to get coins, you dont get experience nor level up. As you advance on the game, you unlock more items or skills which allow you to get stronger in battles and unlock new areas.

    The thing I dont like is that the dialogues are    Good game overall. After playing for ~4 hours I can tell this is an exploration game, where you have to find hidden toads, treasures and hidden blocks. You battle to get coins, you dont get experience nor level up. As you advance on the game, you unlock more items or skills which allow you to get stronger in battles and unlock new areas.

It has created a new combat system that while not as good as the basic select and attack, is certainly more fun than the previous two. While the game has proven to be very enjoyable and have a lot of charm, the only problems are the battle system and lack of original characters.     Es un juego muy divertido. Se siente muy fresco el sistema de combates. Le da un toque nuevo a la saga, y no le queda nada mal. El aparatado artístico es genial.

    Okay. Open your eyes. The game you were imagining is Paper Mario: the Origami King.

    And like the botched Paper Mario games that came before it (Sticker Star and Color Splash), this game's core mechanics are completely broken. If you are a fan of the original two games (which were actually RPGs), then be prepared for some extremely heavy-handed, profoundly condescending treatment from Nintendo.

    Nintendo knows you want RPG mechanics. They know you want a buddy system during fights. They know you hate battle stickers that are consumed as you fight pointless fights. They flaunt their awareness of these things throughout this game. They give you a pseudo-buddy who does next to nothing during fights. They appear to do away with stickers, but they're still there--they've just had their name changed to "Weapons" (which break after several uses). This is Nintendo-knows-best at its absolute worst.

    I recommend avoiding this game the way I recommend not hitting your thumb with a hammer.    … Expand

    Nunca había jugado un papel Mario, pero este juego brilla por sus gráficos minimalistas pero con gran diseño.. es increíble que un juego diseñado para niños sea tan divertido para los adultos.

    El juego tiene un gran apartado gráfico y artístico, ese es su mayor fuerte. La mecánica de ir rellenando espacios con el confeti, es también divertida, pero el problema es que el confeti está por todos lados, y pierde la gracia muy pronto. Aparte de lo anterior, nada más que rescatar, los combates aburren muy rápido, estar dando vuelta el campo se vuelve aburridisimo, traté de evitar losEl juego tiene un gran apartado gráfico y artístico, ese es su mayor fuerte. La mecánica de ir rellenando espacios con el confeti, es también divertida, pero el problema es que el confeti está por todos lados, y pierde la gracia muy pronto. Aparte de lo anterior, nada más que rescatar, los combates aburren muy rápido, estar dando vuelta el campo se vuelve aburridisimo, traté de evitar los enemigos lo más que pude. Los combates contra los jefes también aburren muchisimo, cada vez que entraba a un combate contra jefe me salía del juego, y lo retomaba horas después porque es ABURRIDISIMO Y CANSADOR. LAS MONEDAS SON DEMASIADAS, NUNCA FALTAN, Y SIRVEN DE VEZ EN CUANDO. No hay estadisticas que subir, y las batallas no sirven para nada. Lo único que se puede hacer en el combate es: Martillo o salto. Si tienes objetos, flor de fuego, bloque pow, y no mucho más. EL JUEGO ES DECEPCIONANTE.… Expand

    It is an excellent game with very funny dialogues and situations, visually it is beautiful and the puzzles, although they are often tedious, give the game some difficulty.
    It's certainly not better than paper mario 64 or paper mario the thousand year door but it is really worth playing.

    Me encanto este juego, claramente no es un TTYD. Pero es muy bueno por sus propios medios, se extrañan mucho los juegos clasicos de paper mario pero no por eso voy a calificar subjetivamente. El juego se ve hermoso, te divierte, te entretiene, tiene muchisimas cosas por hacer en todo su hermoso mundo, así es, es muy bonito y hay mucha atención al detalle. Cada serpentina (capitulo/arco)Me encanto este juego, claramente no es un TTYD. Pero es muy bueno por sus propios medios, se extrañan mucho los juegos clasicos de paper mario pero no por eso voy a calificar subjetivamente. El juego se ve hermoso, te divierte, te entretiene, tiene muchisimas cosas por hacer en todo su hermoso mundo, así es, es muy bonito y hay mucha atención al detalle. Cada serpentina (capitulo/arco) da muchisimo juego porque hay muchos toads/coleccionables que encontrar. De igual forma existen 2 jefes por serpentina y eso es increible.
    Su sistema de combate esta bien (hasta ahí) es bueno, pero no muy bueno, ni increíble. Sin embargo, las peleas contra jefes son buenísimas.
    La música es muy buena, y el humor es muy bueno, superando al humor promedio de esta saga que siempre se ha caracterizado por ese motivo. intelligent systems realizó un gran trabajo, muy bueno. Espero que pueda seguir ese camino, mejorar y traernos un poco mas del sistema antiguo. Aunque el nuevo no esta mal, no se dejen llevar por el hate de personas sin objetividad y que ni el juego tienen... realmente es muy bueno, y es un gran camino el que tiene paper mario de aquí para adelante. A forma personal lo considero el tercer mejor paper mario superando al de wii.

    Después del super éxito de paper Mario para la N64 y la puerta milenaria de GC y el jugo rarísimo de super Mario paper para Wii y el descenso del color splash con el de los sticker creí que nunca vería a esta saga renancer de nuevo tal vez no como la puerta milenaria pero me encantó la nueva forma de pelear albprincipio lo vi raro pero despues se va desarrollando muy bien y loDespués del super éxito de paper Mario para la N64 y la puerta milenaria de GC y el jugo rarísimo de super Mario paper para Wii y el descenso del color splash con el de los sticker creí que nunca vería a esta saga renancer de nuevo tal vez no como la puerta milenaria pero me encantó la nueva forma de pelear albprincipio lo vi raro pero despues se va desarrollando muy bien y lo mas importante es que te diviertes muchisimo el humor es como el juego de color splash y paper Mario de N64… Expand

    Amazing and bright visuals, captivating worlds, a delightful soundtrack and fun battles. It isn’t what traditional Paper Mario used to be in terms of RPG but I ended up liking a lot the ring battle system, I enjoy those little puzzles before each battle, while the boss battles give a fresh take on the ring system. Overall had a blast, great game!

    The Origami King may not be a direct successor to TTYD, but it pulls off an action-adventure Paper Mario game better than any game in the series. It has a great world, fun characters, and incredible presentation. The battles can be a bit slow, but the ring puzzle mechanics are fun in their own right. Despite its flaws, I had a great time with this game.

    It was fun for like, a minute, then everything got repetitive. I had no motivation to do battles because no xp points. The bosses are so stupid. Origami was a cool idea but missed the mark.

    - NPCs lost a lot of their originality - Botw and Mario Odyssey have original characters, why can't Paper Mario???

    Overall - A waste of money, only buy this game if its on sale for cheap or watch a youtuber gameplay it. Its not worth it. The writing is ok, but there is only so much paper gimmick jokes you can take. It makes me sad cause Mario RPG, Paper Mario 64, and The Thousand Year Door, had beautiful amazing original characters, great story, beautiful worlds that didn't focus on the Paper gimmick, a great soundtrack, meaningful battles that made the player feel stronger as you progressed since there is XP(and you had to manage your HP, FP, and Badge Points as you leveled up), Badges that gave you ways to customize that experience and great partners that shared the story/adventure with you. These are things which I feel is completely lost in the newer series. I urge others to play Mario RPG, Paper Mario 64 and The Thousand Year Door over this game because you'll get a better more fulfilling adventure then you would here.    … Expand

    The game has amazing music, visuals, and funny dialogue. The amount of detail in the environment is incredible. They fixed so many commonly complained about things from the previous installments. The battle system keeps your mind fresh and the use of badges and “weapons” keeps things interesting! Great storyline!

    I am enjoying this game more then I anticipated. I was hesitant about buying when I saw the tree house live event but an hour before released I decided to give it a try. I have not stopped playing since the battle system though it is not perfect it’s a huge improvement from colour splash and sticker star. This game deserves a much higher score.     Nice storry, beautiful grafik, gorgeous music and all in all a pretty good game.
    Yes it doesn't make it to paper mario 2 but they dont evenhave the option to do that. Yes there are maybe to much fights sometimes but all in all a great game!

    Although it's not the greatest game in the Paper Mario series, The Origami King does have stellar visuals and pretty good music to listen to on your adventure. The humour does have some charm to it.

    The battles however are very tedious and the tutorial is too long. Tutorials should be shortened or allow the player to discover themselves what to do.     While I did like the darker atmosphere of the game, the actual story and boss fights fall flat. There were too many toads and there was plenty of room for new characters with better personalities.

    On some occasions, I did find Oviva to be very annoying. But this doesn't mean she's the worst companion in the series history.

    In conclusion, this game is mixed for me. It will probably stay this way until something is done to breathe more life into the series and bring back the old days of the Paper Mario series.    … Expand

This game is just pure and simply fun, it’s not as good as the first three Paper Mario games but it’s definitely better than sticker star and color splash. The game is also humorous and clever and it really tries to go for that Kirby’s epic yarn/yoshi’s wooly world aesthetic (but with paper instead of yarn) with every thing being made from a different material. The battles aren’t too bad, there is definitely a reason to battle by getting extra coins and confetti now that items are super expensive and there are “not-so bottomless holes” lying around. And while the partners aren’t as interesting and as quirky like in ttyd, they are still very cute and lovable. With that being said though, there are a few problems. first of all, the boss fights, the vellumentals, while cool looking, are fairly generic. like the earth vellumental is just a turtle and the water vellumental is just a dragon. Not only that, but the Legion of stationery, while they are funny with their writing, are just normal house hold objects. The exception being the rubber band man you fight later on in the game. I kind of wish that the other members of the legion of stationery were like the rubber band dude. The battle system (for me at least) isn’t that bad. It’s new and unique and it does get challenging later on in the game. They also didn’t bring back exp for this game but they still gave a good reason for battling. Money. Since items are so expensive now and you can’t just get coins from platforming, the devs decided to give you a lot of coins for winning a battle. So if you need to buy something just run into the nearest enemy and battle away. What I’m trying to say is that coins are sort of the new exp points. And in true Paper Mario fashion, it can get pretty dark and depressing. One of the new characters (Bobby the bob-omb) back tracks through his life before he explodes to save another character. AND THEN THAT CHARACTER IS THEN STRICKEN WITH GRIEF FOR THE DEATH OF HER FRIEND. So this game does get sad. This game isn’t perfect but it is still worth trying out and who knows, this game might be better than expected. And one more thing “shy guys finish last” is garbage and it should go die in a hole. This doesn’t ruin the game but this section relies on RNG and it is absolutely no fun whatsoever… Expand

    Really good game so far with nice soundtracks and open world. The combat system though is what made this series good, in this one, it isn‘t really like that. Too many paper jokes. Could have been better.

    It's not a broken mess, but it's seriously lacking in the game play department. And that's a shame because I had high hopes for this game and felt a bit let down.     This game is great. The story is entertaining and the characters are interesting. If you're a completionist, there are lots of collectibles to find. The battle system is creative, but can get a bit repetitive.

    The visuals of the game are beautiful, very detailed and colorful. The dialogue is fun too.

    Overall the best Paper Mario game so far. 8/10

    Excellent writing and overall presentation. The game is not easy and will challenge you with its divisive battle system that I personally really enjoy. It’s a celebration of everything Mario with plenty of jokes and events to keep you engaged. Highly recommended.

    The game is nice and pleseant. I've fun with it, the difficulty inscrease with time and the new ennemies. The music is pretty good and melodious, as for the general atmosphere. Also the humor is present, i smile several times ^_^
    I only disaprove the XP/RPG removing side, damage.

Just the depth and detail put into it is awesome. The only two reasons it’s not a ten is 1. I wish u could sprint. After a while it does get a little tiring walking to every area but that’s minor and doesn’t take away from the game. 2.Only half way through and this a top 5 switch game for me. There are many pros going for it, but one big con that, for me, brings down the entire experience by about 3 points (using a 10 point scale). That one giant con is, unfortunately, the combat system.

    The visuals are great, with everything having an authentic handcrafted feel. The gameplay while exploring the overworld is great, and probably the best thing about this game. Finding Toads is very charming. This, however, makes it a real shame that someone actually thought that this combat system would be viable for everyone. At first, it seems very easy and monotonous, as you line up the enemies and take them out, without even giving the enemy a chance to attack. Then, it becomes frustrating and baffling. The puzzle sections of the combat become more difficult. I found myself getting very frustrated. If you don’t solve the puzzle before combat initiates, you’re left with a mess of enemies all over the field. Sure, you can use coins to buy more time to line up enemies, but if you used that feature in every battle, you’d be broke.

    This combat system will click with some people I’m sure, but others will be left by the wayside. The solutions to the combat puzzles aren’t always immediately obvious, and I think with the time limit and movement restriction in place, the solutions have to be immediately obvious or you’re going to fail miserably. And it’s not very fun when you do. Also, it doesn’t bode well for the game when the overworld real time battles against Papier-mâché baddies are way more fun and engaging combat sequences than the ill-conceived ring-based battle system.

    Overall, I would recommend this game to others. However, what started as a possible 9/10, comes down to a 6/10 for me, simply because of the battle system.    … Expand

The battle system is so intuitive and clever. It's a puzzle which you gotta slide or rotate the rings. It might seem weird at first but you'll get the hang of it as its goes on. Coins are actually important, you'll spend them all the time. So the battle is much more important . The characters are so charming with their own story and passion. Bobby actually sacrificed himself to save Olivia. That really adds a lot of personality to him. And Olivia is just so cute and adorable. It might not be same as The Thousand Year Door or the original but if you give it a try you might really adore this game and the effort that is made to made this game.… Expand

    Paper Mario deserves better. The prestige of a Final Fantasy veteran appropriating his magic onto a handicraft world deserves better. The unforgettable wit and lovable cast expanding Mario lore deserves better. And we know that Intelligent Systems can do better than committing themselves to a misguided identity crisis.
