Jul 18, 2020A very cute game. But, the combat is so wrong. Actually you will be avoiding combat all the time because it's not funny at all. And the worst part it's that you will not gain anything besides some coins. No experience points nor anything. The game is a missed opportunity...

Jul 18, 2020PROS
- Good adventure game
- Beautiful game
- Creative fight mechanic
- Cool Boss Fights
CONS
- Not an RPG
- The hole fighting mechanic is completely useless
- "Partners" if you can call them that, are pretty much useless
- The First part is horribly slow and painful
CONCLUSION
- It's a okay mario ADVENTURE game
- It's not a Paper Mario Game since paper mario games are RPGs -

Sep 29, 2020A charming game with humour out the door. Beautiful visuals make for one of the best games on the Switch visually. However, it can be a bit boring at times, and a drag to play through. Despite a lot of the negativity this game gets, I thoroughly enjoyed myself all the way through until the end despite a clear lack of incentive in an XP system for example.

Sep 16, 2020Great writing, you can really tell a lot of passion was put behind this project. Absolutely ruined by ring battles, they are jst annoying and ruin the flow of the game
-
Oct 26, 2020While the graphics are gorgeous and offers a fun take on the classic game. This cant save it from the awful game play that is the battles. This was the only thing i didn't love about this game, it could have been done differently but the route chosen was poorly executed.
-
Aug 5, 2020Beautiful game that would be fun, but horrible battle system breaks that all.
-
Sep 20, 2021Many puzzles are way to complex and some are just ridiculous. Not clever in any way, but just cheap complexity.

Sep 29, 2020The exploration is fun, and the environments ooze charm, but this feels like Baby's First RPG. The combat is tedious because of it's simplicity, and your companion character pops up to explain every single thing you encounter.

Aug 4, 2020I'm a huge fan of Paper Mario series, this one has an incredible soundtrack, amazing visuals, but lacks of the vibe the 1st and 2nd one had with the combat system =(

Sep 2, 2020Very polished experience. The story is brilliant, funny, and unexpectedly dark and somber at times. I do see a valid critique against the combat system, there were times where it felt tedious and unnecessary. And because there is no real experience system the intended reward system feels confused. Overall as an experience it is memorable and delightful.

Sep 19, 2020I really wish that I could give this game a 10. It has so much that it’s doing right, but the RPG system with no EXP is terrible, and the regular battles take long.

Dec 3, 20205/10. Too many Toads.
Nah but seriously this game would've benefitted a lot if they just had a normal RPG battle system with levelling up and partners, and if they had unique characters just like the first two games. -

Apr 19, 2021The game is visually appealing and the story is nice but the battles are so boring that i think i’ll never replay this game again.

Jul 21, 2020Juego bonito para la vista pero nada mas! Aburrido, sin alma y genérico . Puede divertir a los niños de la casa
-
Jul 20, 2020Sadly, this is not the Paper Mario we are looking for. Great visuals but again, characters are lacking, burning battle system that is way too easy. No badges, no real partners not a real RPG. I wish Nintendo would go back to the older style which both fans and professional reviewers agree is better.

Jul 20, 2020It wasn't bad but people really need to stop buying this game because Nintendo will continue to release this tiresome rpg that only appeals to kids. Three times in a row they don't listen to fans. It's the same ole story and game play. The rpg elements in this game are lackluster and boring. If you hated Sticker Star and Color Splash then you will definitely hate this one.

Aug 2, 2020Paper Mario Origami King wants to be inventive. Artistically, this opus is close to excellence due to humor and well-balanced characters. Despite this, some aspects (although varied) of exploration or combat are not well mastered ... But don't worry TOK remains a pleasant and surprising game for young and old alike.
-
Jul 24, 2020Pretty good game. Very creative world. The story is okay. Music is great. My main complaint is after about half the game, the battle system is so annoying. Instead of fighting enemies you try to avoid them. The battle system needs more content to spice it up.

Jul 24, 2020I ignored the complaints and bought the game anyways, and boy am I disappointed. It's super repetitive fighting with no rewards and the fighting system, especially for boss fights is ridiculous!
-
Jul 24, 2020Thought this game wasnt going to be as bad as everyone was saying it had the humor and the feeling of fhe god paper Mario's but then got to the first boss and just hard quit the game why do you have 60 to 70 seconds to time out all hour moves to do the most damage in a boss fight it doesnt make sense

Feb 20, 2021Nintendo again doing what they want and not the fans. It’s better than the last 2 entries but that’s not saying much at all.
-
Jul 20, 2020The game looks great, but the gameplay is repetitive and grows old very quickly. I had fun for a few hours, but the puzzle gameplay soon got very tiresome. You can avoid battles if you want, but that's not really something that I find fun either. Avoiding the battles isn't fun, and the battles themselves aren't fun. Not really my kind of game at all. I regret purchasing this.

Jul 19, 2020this game is average for me its boss fights are neat the allies suck and its so damn slow espically tyhe first part
-
Jul 21, 2020Paper Mario has changed shape becoming a beautifully crafted adventure with entertaining dialogue, open area exploration and lots of colour. This entry takes a completely new direction and is only let down by a tiring ring battle system which you will quickly choose to avoid. Those Mario RPG fans are better off checking out Bug Fables and simply enjoying PM for the fun ride.
-
Jul 20, 2020A shell of the series former glory.
This game is a big improvement over the other "new" paper mario games and yet it's still suffering from so many of their problems. There's not much here for longtime fans of the series but for any newcomers you'll find a perfectly serviceable adventure game. -
Jul 20, 2020I’ve never played a paper Mario game before but I thought I’d try it out and it was very mediocre. Graphics are very nice and dialogue can be kinda funny sometimes but overall I was just bored while playing it. Gameplay is super easy and left me unsatisfied. I think if you have a kid they would probably enjoy it but I gotta give it a 5/10

Jul 23, 2020The Origami King has its ups and downs. In a year that we have no idea what Nintendo has in store for us. It feels more like an appetizer then a main course. I did have fun with it regardless of some game design choices and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.
-
Jul 19, 2020Not a fan of the combat at all, was hoping for a Traditional paper Mario RPG from
The N64 era.... its just ok, not worth the price tag. More of a puzzle game then an RPG, fail the puzzle take damage. Reminds of Gems of war... -

Jul 20, 2020Mario could be better. It's an average game. Theres some creativity and the levels are ok.

Jul 26, 2020Paper Mario is really nice game. Well crafted but the combat is awfull and repetitive. This game is definitely not for everyone.
-
Jul 21, 2020Beautiful game, beautiful soundtrack, but lacks depth of gameplay. Тhe maximum score for this game is 7/10.
-
Jul 23, 2020
-
Jul 25, 2020I love it so far, dialogue is funny, graphics are good, music is on par. As mentioned by many, the battlesystem sucks. Whoever came up with it, doesn't understand the word 'fun'. You don't get XP from the battles anyway, so i try to stay clear from battles when possible. Shame, could've been a 9 or a 10 if not for the battle system.
-
Jul 19, 2020Paper Mario The Origami King is a fun game, with a beautiful graphics and great boss battles, but, it carries many things from Sticker Star and Color Slash, generic NPCs, useless battle system, weak story and null progression system, Origami King was much better than Sticker Star and Color Splash but it is still behind the first three games

Jul 18, 2020After several hours in of gameplay, I just gotta be honest— This game gets a resounding ‘meh’.
Main complaint: If you make a battle system, give me a better reason to use it. -
Jul 19, 2020A great looking game with a nice and fun gameplay that is completely ruined by the combat system that feels repetitive after the first couple of battles and honestly is kinda useless and feels outdated.
The game is a hit or miss depending on the players liking to the combat system. -
Jul 18, 2020
-
Jul 19, 2020It is a good game but sadly not a good Paper Mario. Original characters are missing (instead millions of toads), no exp for battles and no interesting partners for our adventure.
-

Jul 23, 2020It was pretty and flavorful but ultimately dissatisfying, much like a cake pop.
-
Jul 27, 2020The amount of Toads that substitute new and innovative characters is disappointing. I found myself actively avoiding battle by World 4. This game, like many switch titles, had potential but settled for OK.
My praise is the humor and some of the writing. -

Jul 19, 2020Great visuals and audio. Battle system is tedious and Nintendo's exploring new things has hurt them here. At first it was unique, but it gets really repetitive fast. Story really bland. I'm about half way through the game and will be selling it right away. Not really a surprise, but its not in the same echelon as TTYD.

Ninty Fresh MagazineDec 21, 2020The Origami King is a game greater than the sum of its parts. It reaffirms Nintendo’s status as king of innovation, even if the folds don’t quite align. [Issue #2, p.66]
-
Dec 16, 2020Paper Mario: The Origami King arrives on Nintendo Switch with very high quality graphics, a pleasant soundtrack and a plot full of very good humor, typical of the Paper Mario series. Among countless places to visit, bosses to win, and puzzles to solve, the game can be considered one of the best in the franchise.

Oct 29, 2020Paper Mario deserves better. The prestige of a Final Fantasy veteran appropriating his magic onto a handicraft world deserves better. The unforgettable wit and lovable cast expanding Mario lore deserves better. And we know that Intelligent Systems can do better than committing themselves to a misguided identity crisis.
