    My only gripe with it is the battle system and the fact that there's no incentive to battle, but the rest of the points more than make up for it. EDIT: 2 years later and the game grew even more on me. 9/10!

    I really liked this game. 9/10 without post game. I like puzzles and I like the battle system, but I thought that the battle system needed a bit more depth. However, I still love it. I know people call this Color Splash 2, but personally I hated Color Splash. No offense to those who like it, but I personally didn't. I hated the backtracking, I didn't like the bosses, the battle system wasI really liked this game. 9/10 without post game. I like puzzles and I like the battle system, but I thought that the battle system needed a bit more depth. However, I still love it. I know people call this Color Splash 2, but personally I hated Color Splash. No offense to those who like it, but I personally didn't. I hated the backtracking, I didn't like the bosses, the battle system was okay. I think that the redeeming factor of that game was the world and the final boss. So I did not like that game, but I really liked Origami king. Why? I think the puzzles were 10 time better than they were in color splash and the world and characters were outstanding. This game has so much more vibrant with different scenarios all the time. Some puzzles might be a bit irritating, but they're very minimal. I thought this was a great game. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but right up there with TTYD. TTYD had an amazing battle system, and a semi-bland world. Origami King has a controversial battle system, but a 10/10 world. Great game and I definitely recommend it. This might one of my favorites if not my favorite paper Mario game… Expand

    The combat is fun, but it can get repetitive really fast and you'll eventually find yourself trying to skip as much fights as possible, only fights you're really looking forward too are the boss fights. They're really creative and they can be really challenging.

I am a big fan of the first 2 Paper Mario, being TTYD my favourite game of all time, and my disappointment with Sticker Star was huge. So I played this game expecting nothing, and in the end I really enjoyed it, I even got the 100% on it.

    It has many positives. World is well designed, with secrets everywhere,    Paper Mario: The Origami King is the (positive) surprise of the year for me. I am a big fan of the first 2 Paper Mario, being TTYD my favourite game of all time, and my disappointment with Sticker Star was huge. So I played this game expecting nothing, and in the end I really enjoyed it, I even got the 100% on it.

    It has many positives. World is well designed, with secrets everywhere, exploring is probably the most fun thing of this game, just finding hidden blocks, holes, and treasures feels rewarding, and time goes fast by doing that. As for the battle system... Well, here is the tricky part. For me it was fine at the beginning, then mid-game I didn't enjoy it that much, and then for the end of the game I actually enjoyed it again, as I learnt how to play the game much better, how to use my weapons properly and the Toads' help when needed, and this makes battle go fast. This makes you actually get more coins, which is important, as if you don't play battles properly, they are almost useless, as you don't get enough coins and experience points don't exist in this game. It's not the easiest battle system to get into, I get it, but it works well once you figure it out. And bosses are actually quite fun, especially when you fight them in the virtual machine of Toad Town; without help of accessories, you actually get punished for your mistakes.

    All in all, for me the game was a lot of fun, it's very original, and it keeps on surprising you with the situations that happen. You also have some good laughs, as always with this series. Sure, it may be hard to get into due to the battle system, you have to get used to it, and also, some parts of the game are a bit slow, but positives outweigh negatives for this one.

    As a final consideration, I would love for Paper Mario to go back to the original battle system, but, if they decide to be creative, and achieve the quality of this game, I won't complain.    … Expand

    The game seems to be torn between wanting to please both fans of the original games, and the fans of the newer series. There are some extreme difficulty spikes at points in the game, and the game does have a few glitches (some more severe than others, look up the game breaking glitch so you don't ruin 20-30 hours of gameplay and lock yourself out of the ending).

    Really love the game and its writing. The dialogue really cracks me up in some scenes. The level/world design is beautiful, but the combat/boss battles can range from extremely tricky on one battle, to easy peasy immediately afterwards as you progress.

    First of all, this is my first time playing a Paper Mario game, and I gotta say, it's so much fun! The graphics look stunning, the text is funny, the music is amazing, the gameplay is fun and the battle system is very interesting and can be very hard throughout the game. I also think the boss battles are interesting, basically i think the whole ring thing is great. La verdad es que yo he jugado el de nintendo 64 y ahora este y ambos me han gustado un montón. La comedia es muy buena y la verdad el juego no cae en ritmo casi nunca y eso hoy en día es difícil de encontrar. Soy amante de los rpgs y jrpgs y aunque este juego no se denomine rpg pues tiene muchos elementos del mismo. Me a gustado que casi nunca te aburres o se te hace repetitivo, siempre tiene algo nuevo que te hace seguir con la aventura, los acompañantes tienen todos bien carisma y Olivia es un gran personaje, muy bien escrito. Coleccionar las elementos no cansa y es muy divertido casi siempre. Los gráficos son hermosos, hasta ahora no puedo creer que una tablet pueda hacer esto, la verdad es uno de estos juegos donde te cuestionas sobre si el fotorealismo significa mejores gráficos pues este no es fotorealista pero es hermoso. La exploración es muy satisfactoria y los diálogos tienen una comedia que no cansa, muy buen guión. Sobre el combate con enemigos comunes, la verdad este es su punto más flojo pues aunque te dan monedas necesarias para mejorar los atributos de Mario, creo que están poco aprovechadas y una vez que tengas monedas de sobra solo vas a querer evitarlos. Sobre los jefes, las peleas son muy buenas y de verdad las disfruté mucho. Solo tengo la queja, debieron crear otros jefes finales que no sean solo materiales de oficina. Se que nintendo es una idiota que no deja crear nuevos personajes en la saga y espero que eso cambie la próxima vez. Por el lado bueno,estos materiales de escritorio tienen carisma y personalidades muy divertidas. Me encantó el perforador y si sabrosura xD. Finalmente, puedo decir que el juego si vale la pena. Me a gustado mucho a pesar de sus defectos y eso en estos tiempos como gamer de muchos años es muy raro. Even though Thousand-Year Door is my second favorite game ever (can't beat Wind Waker), I still enjoyed this game. However, part of that enjoyment came from my accepting the fact that this game would not be like TTYD. Try out Bug Fables, it's just like the original Paper Mario games and is super fun! But if you're willing to give this game a shot, and experience something new, then I highly recommend The Origami King.     Nostalgia for TTYD aside, I think this game is incredibly pleasing. People should stop comparing the two because obviously thousand year door was one of the best games ever made. The storyline in origami king is charming and although the gameplay is different I am thoroughly enjoying playing it. Perfect game to relax and set your mind on cruise control (even if some of the puzzles / waveNostalgia for TTYD aside, I think this game is incredibly pleasing.     The brilliant music alone makes this game worth the $60 price point, the boss battles are engaging and interesting, and the game is beautiful to look at. While I prefer the old paper Mario battle system, the battle system in this game is still really good. The beginning of the game is really easy but as the game goes on it gets progressively more difficult.     You know, I first wanted to give this game a 6. However that was pretty early on, I don't like the path that the Paper Mario series took after TTYD. Removing the EXP system and just making it a puzzle type game, left a bad taste in my mouth. With that being said, I enjoyed this game the more I played it. It was random, I didn't mind the storyline, the game looked amazing. And probably theYou know, I first wanted to give this game a 6.     Only issue I had was with the awful fighting mechanics, as I played the game theg became more tolerable but still annoying. Story is excellent with plenty of play time. Took me around 25 hours to beat my first play through while collecting items.

El reino champiñón de papel se ve alterado cuando una figura hecha de origami, llamado Olly, secuestra a la princesa Peach con el objetivo de reclamar el trono para él y su hermana (Olivia), sometiendo a todas las figuras planas que no sean de origami. Sin embargo, Olivia no está de acuerdo con el plan maléfico de su hermano y decide ayudar a Mario para restaurar la paz entre planos y origamis. Olly envuelve el castillo de Peach en 5 tiras de papel, diseminadas por todo el reino.
    Mario y Olivia emprenderán un largo viaje para detener a Olly, enfrentando grandes peligros pero también ayudados por entrañables compañeros de aventuras.
    El juego cuenta con un apartado de exploración donde Mario debe recabar información para cortar las cintas de papel, y otro de combate en donde se enfrenta a enemigos diversos.
    En el modo de combate, nos encontramos en una plataforma circular con enemigos posicionados en lugares específicos. Mario debe ordenarlos de dos maneras: La primera es en fila, de esta forma podrá usar el ataque de pisoteo con sus botas.
    La segunda es agrupar 4 enemigos en 2 filas de 2 para poder liquidarlos con el martillo.
    Situar a los enemigos en el lugar correcto requiere de mucha práctica y concentración por parte del jugador, ya que Mario solo dispone de movimientos y tiempo limitados para acomodar el tablero. Una ventaja con la que cuenta Mario es la de ralentizar el tiempo haciendo uso de monedas, así como también pedir ayuda a los Toads rescatados en el modo exploración.
    Conforme el jugador se vaya adentrando en el juego podrá encontrar amuletos muy útiles para tener más tiempo y salud en estas batallas.

    Pasamos ahora a las batallas de jefes; Mario y Olivia se enfrentarán a distintos jefes con forma de equipo de oficina (tijeras, cinta adhesiva, lápices, máquina agujereadora) que son letales si el jugador no planifica bien su estrategia de ataque. En estas batallas, el jefe está en el centro del tablero y Mario en el borde. El tablero cuenta con flechas y fichas de activación que el jugador debe acomodar para atacar al jefe, con atención al tiempo y cantidad de movimientos limitada.
    En cuanto a mi experiencia personal debo decir que los jefes me costaron un poco al principio, ya que no entendía bien la dinámica del tablero. Sin embargo, luego de practicar comencé a jugar mejor y a entender bien la dinámica del combate. Entiendo que mucha gente se haya sentido frustrada con este sistema de combate complejo, pero no deben bajar puntos al juego por intentar algo innovador e interesante.    … Expand

    Gran juego y excelente paper Mario. Hilarante como siempre, visualmente espectacular y con los escenarios mas estramboticos que veras en un juego jejeje... Si peca de algo y no tiene más nota es por el combate contra enemigos (no jefes) que al principio es entretenido, pero al final se me ha atragantado mucho. Sin duda un must de NS.

    I think that the game is really good overall. The story is nice and it feels good to have Mario and Bowser fight on the same side, against a greater threat. Also, I feel like I am one of the only people who likes the combat system.

    And as always, fantastic soundtrack!

    My verdict is: 9/10 and here's why (since I know this game is being review-bombed, I'm giving it a 10 though): # battle system # Cons: - yes, there are no permanent partners    It took me around 50 hours of playing Paper Mario: The Origami King (without any walkthroughs or guides) to complete the game 100% (all treasures, hit blocks, non-bottomless holes, toads, trophies etc.).

    My verdict is: 9/10 and here's why (since I know this game is being review-bombed, I'm giving it a 10 though):

    # battle system #

    Cons:

    - yes, there are no permanent partners nor exp points, and one could certainly argue if the series has moved on from RPG, then why have a turn-based battle system altogether
    - yes, most bosses are office stationaries

    However, in my opinion, there's still enough motivation to battle in that you get a lot of coins (which help you in battles and bosses, as well as purchasing equipment and treasures) and confetti (which you need to cover non-bottomless holes and get harder to get in the open after a while).

    Pros:

    - the puzzle-based, ring system is quite fun and satisfying
    - boss battles are unique and challenge your expectations and strategy
    - because there is no exp progression, you don't need to worry about grinding to advance the story

    # soundtrack #

    No cons here.

    Oh man, it's just fantastic. From Wild West themes to traditional Japanese flute, the soundtrack really sets the mood to your adventure. I find myself just walking around Shogun Studios and Autumn Mountains, only to listen to that beautiful soundtrack.

    The boss battles have a more metal feel to set the tone and there are sad moments too (no spoilers).

    The game is colorful and vibrant. Each area is unique, with a special highlight to Shogun Studios and The Great Sea. The effect and sound of confetti orbiting towards you is so good, and every interaction with either the scenario or other characters yields a reaction (most often a funny one).

    - it's shorter than I had hoped. =(

    It's a simple story, like all Paper Mario games. Not really a con, just, keep in mind that the script is not minding-blowing. It's funny as hell though.

    Pros:

    - there's depth in the characters, you get to relate to and care for them
    - you laugh all the time, the game is super funny, and you actually look forward to saving all the toads, just to hear what they have to say
    - you don't just walk around, you interact with the world in multiple ways and that's awesome
    - Easter eggs, if you explore enough you'll find them

    I respect the fans that long for the old Thousand Year Door games (I played it myself and I have it in high, high regard) and I understand how they feel regarding the turn the franchise took.

    I myself don't mind the turn they took and I think this is a memorable game, I really enjoyed it and am already looking forward to the next iteration in the franchise. =)    … Expand

    Found the first “chapter” pretty slow. But it picks up really quickly after that. Battles i found extremely fun, especially the boss battles as they add a different twist compared to the normal ones.

    Although it isn’t the paper Mario I’ve been longing for, with traditional combat. This game is filled with charm that blew me away at times. Sure, i do wish there were more unique characters or, accessories to use, but overall this game was exceptional and hit marks that made me love the original games so much.

    In Paper Mario origami king, although it does take away the RPG elements, Taking away our judgments of what we perceive a Paper Mario game to be, this game is really fantastic. The game makes the story very clear, at least in terms of determining who the main enemy is. Like most RPG Mario games, it has great humor, and a great cast of characters to boot. The different worlds it takes you through, are inventive, and offered wildly different challenges. There is a different game play throughout the game, making it continuously fresh. And it does find moments to tug at your heart strings, which is truly amazing for any game, let alone a Mario game. If there’s one thing I would like to see in future games, is more inventive boss character models.
    The bosses in this game, in terms of their dialogue, we’re so creative and made you want to crush them, but, each major boss in this game happens to be some type of tool, you can find in a office setting. That part was somewhat disappointing, But, the boss battles themselves were really fun, inventive, and very humorous. They also provided a great challenge, the more and more you play the game.

    I know puzzle Solving, in your battles, may not be everybody’s cup of tea. But paper Mario found a way to make that fresh, by giving you extra boost, whenever you solve a puzzle, while battling. It’s easier to look on YouTube, and look at the battle system, to see what I’m referring to. But, reward for solving a puzzle, getting extra points for damaging enemies, and the satisfaction of ending a very hard boss battle, is very tremendous in this game.

    Overall, I would highly recommend this game, I would recommend that anyone played, play with your family, because of the cast of characters, soundtrack, the humor and everything in between, To me, this is one of Mario’s greatest outings, and it is a game that I will personally go back to from time to time.    … Expand

This game is just pure and simply fun, it’s not as good as the first three Paper Mario games but it’s definitely better than sticker star and color splash. The game is also humorous and clever and it really tries to go for that Kirby’s epic yarn/yoshi’s wooly world aesthetic (but with paper instead of yarn) with every thing being made from a different material. The battles aren’t too bad, there is definitely a reason to battle by getting extra coins and confetti now that items are super expensive and there are “not-so bottomless holes” lying around. And while the partners aren’t as interesting and as quirky like in ttyd, they are still very cute and lovable. With that being said though, there are a few problems. first of all, the boss fights, the vellumentals, while cool looking, are fairly generic. like the earth vellumental is just a turtle and the water vellumental is just a dragon. Not only that, but the Legion of stationery, while they are funny with their writing, are just normal house hold objects. The exception being the rubber band man you fight later on in the game. I kind of wish that the other members of the legion of stationery were like the rubber band dude. The battle system (for me at least) isn’t that bad. It’s new and unique and it does get challenging later on in the game. They also didn’t bring back exp for this game but they still gave a good reason for battling. Money. Since items are so expensive now and you can’t just get coins from platforming, the devs decided to give you a lot of coins for winning a battle. So if you need to buy something just run into the nearest enemy and battle away. What I’m trying to say is that coins are sort of the new exp points. And in true Paper Mario fashion, it can get pretty dark and depressing. One of the new characters (Bobby the bob-omb) back tracks through his life before he explodes to save another character. AND THEN THAT CHARACTER IS THEN STRICKEN WITH GRIEF FOR THE DEATH OF HER FRIEND. So this game does get sad. This game isn’t perfect but it is still worth trying out and who knows, this game might be better than expected. And one more thing “shy guys finish last” is garbage and it should go die in a hole. This doesn’t ruin the game but this section relies on RNG and it is absolutely no fun whatsoever… Expand

    Great and fun experience! Highly recommend to someone that is new to the franchise and even a veteran to these games. I rate it 9/10. The music is great and gameplay is fun as well, It has funny and quirky references and dialogue.

    This game is great. The story is entertaining and the characters are interesting. If you're a completionist, there are lots of collectibles to find. The battle system is creative, but can get a bit repetitive.

    The visuals of the game are beautiful, very detailed and colorful. The dialogue is fun too.

    Overall the best Paper Mario game so far. 8/10

    Only half way through and this a top 5 switch game for me. Great humor, compelling story. These areas you explore are breathtaking for a paper Mario game. Just the depth and detail put into it is awesome. The only two reasons it’s not a ten is 1. I wish u could sprint. After a while it does get a little tiring walking to every area but that’s minor and doesn’t take away from the game. 2.Only half way through and this a top 5 switch game for me.     Yes it doesn't make it to paper mario 2 but they dont evenhave the option to do that. Yes there are maybe to much fights sometimes but all in all a great game!

    The Origami King is a beautiful, charming, funny and relaxing adventure. Everything about it serves that purpose- the crisp graphics, the amazing music, the excellent dialogue and humor. When playing the game I really felt that I was adventuring in a new land, meeting friends and gorgeous vistas along the way. The game is packed full of secrets and collectibles, and so much thought have gone to every line of text and every object placed in the game. Again, if you were to rush through the text and just want to push forward, I wouldn't have as much fun, but that style of gameplay is NOT what The Origami King is all about.
    The game world is designed in such a way that almost all the time you interact with new story or gameplay mechanics, cool minigames, interesting puzzles and quests, remote resting spots and much more. The writing is one of the best I ever experienced, with many moments that warmed my heart or made me laugh, and after playing through almost 2 of the 5 streamers, I feel extremely attached to my travel companions.
    The only two complaints so far are the economy of the game being kind of broken, at least at the beginning, as I often have about 15,000 coins just through exploring, and healing items at the shop coming very cheap. Also, the combat, while very fun in my opinion, is one of the weak spots of the game compared to the other parts, but this is only a MINOR issue, and is not NEARLY as bad as the review bombers present it. Even if you are 100% not the target audience, there is absolutely no way that a game like this deserves less than a 5 (and obviously not a 0.)
    At the end of the day, the game isn't for everyone, but if you are the kind of gamer that likes to lean back and explore a beautiful, interactive world and wants to go on a real journey- I think the game is absolutely perfect for that. I can't wait to jump back in to it very soon.

    Exactly what I expected! The scenery is beautiful, the environment is filled with things to find and the battle system is surprisingly fun once it gets harder. The special overworld fights feel great as well and the confetti mechanic is very satisfying. But the main reason why I like this game so much is how many times ut surprises you with interesting and emotional moments. 10/10

    Truth be told, 81 is fair score for this game. The only reason i'm giving it a 10 is to help combat all these negative reviews from people that are only giving a bad score due to the fact the game is not a successor to the original paper mario or to TTYD. I wonder how many of those that are giving a bad score actually played the game.

I didn’t like the breakable weapons. The game show part was tedious and completely unnecessary. I didn’t like the final boss fight either. It has mechanics that were completely new for that battle and were not introduced before the final boss. This made getting that last fight out of the way that much more frustrating. Like many other paper Mario entries there was a very good story. Interesting plot, lots of comedy. The attention to detail and paper theming is amazing. The desert level was my favorite by far and you don’t have to get too deep before getting to it.… Expand

Having played all the different paper mario games including the fan favourite thousand year door this was a tough game to buy. Honestly didn't want to because of the battles but enentually did, and boy was I glad I did. To start of this review the game actually begins pretty dark and creepy which for an opening was kind of unexpected and overwhelming but still fun nevertheless. After that the game truly starts and get's lots of fun. I will try to get through every aspect of the game in this review so let's get started. First up the story. This one is honestly pretty good in my opinion. It has a nice combination of humour, seriousness, even creepy at times (beginning parts especially) and lots of character has been put into every different character you come across. Even all the toads have different dialogue. You can find toads scattered across all parts of the world for you to be found and they all have some pretty funny dialogue not gonna lie. Next up the design. The world look absolutly stunning in game. It has vibrant environments and locals. The game has a really good paper ecstatic to it (just like color splash but just that more beautiful) and the world is interconnected so it feels like one huge world instead of different "acts". As for the battle system, that is where it get's a "little" lacking. This time the battle system has a puzzle solving element to it. The arena is made of 4 circles and 8 parts with enemies positioned on each of these parts. The thing you have to do is position them so they are 1. After each other in a line or 2. 4 characters in a square in front of you. After that it is actually just like other paper mario games. Chose the attack and hit them with a jump (the line) or with a hammer (the square) to win, or letting the enemy attack afterwards, rinse and repeat. Whem defeating enemy you only recieve coins instead of exp and confetti (this games version of paint and is used to fill out holes in the world to restore them to their original shape and color). The coins are needed to buy items and weapons. These weapons are like the badges from thousand year door and let you use a new type of attack but the difference is that they break after an x amount of uses.     Overall good game although the battle system is meh and there's not really a huge incentive to battle anyways since all you get from doing so is coins which you use to buy accessories that give you perks...to battle lol. The world design is very good and reminiscent of the first 2 games in the series, and the characters are fun and enjoyable for the most part.     The story, one of the best in the series (the best?), because there is emotion at several times and it's something I really did not expect to see in Paper Mario. Humor is omnipresent, as always in the series and the variety of situations and staging allows a constant renewal of the show.

    The gameplay is really very innovative, it's clearly tactical RPG, I'm not very good at puzzles but I really took a lot of fun throughout the game, and what about the awesome boss fights, again with each time new combat situations that came to refuel the way you have to understand the system.

    I finished the game in about 37 hours, a perfect lifespan for this type of game. I've never been bored, which is always the mark of the big games on my side.

    I do not necessarily have a flat, my gluttony would have liked the adventure to be longer in places and in some temples, but it's quibble.

    I feel like this is on par to be one of my favorite games on switch. I do NOT have any experience with previous Paper Mario games. I know this game has had conflicting reviews with fans of the series. The combat puzzles are fun, some of the puzzles are challenging, the jokes are subtle and very funny, and the art is beautiful. I'm a big fan.

    It's not 1000 year door but this game is pretty awesome. I highly recommend this game if you are new to the paper mario series or new to rpgs in general, a great game to introduce new people to the genre. I enjoy the puzzle/battle mechanic. Great game!

    The game was excellent. The story was decent for a modern Nintendo game, and I personally enjoyed the combat a lot. It has room for improvement obviously, for things such as the story and the characters, but apart from that I really enjoyed it.

    Firstly, the battle system. It was nice, I like how it involves puzzles, but it gets boring and repetitive over time with little to no changes other than the enemies that aren't even that great in variety either which is usually why I try to stay away from the enemies. The coins being the incentive to it is fine, but the return of XP would have made it so much better. It almost feels like they're experimenting with it, at least to me. How it's implemented in the boss fights though are so much better though, more engaging with actual strategies involved rather than mindless whacking and stomping. I'd say it's the most fun I had in a turn-based battle system.

    And then the soundtrack, probably one of the best that I've heard from a video game, almost every piece is worth bobbing your head to and they fit the situations they are used in really well. The battle music is made to get you in the mood to brawl, and man does it work so well! And believe me on this one, but I've had the music stuck in my head for an entire week now ever since I started playing the game. That's just how good it is.

    I think the best part of this game is the writing. It's so simple and funny at first, but it's just as effective as well. I could not count how much I'd laughed at the jokes, but even then there are still moments that are sure to hit you hard to remind you of the stakes you have in the story. The characters are also really well written, I always found myself picking my favorites just because of their little quotes.

    As someone who plays games rather slowly and takes them lightly, I always like to explore for possible secrets hidden beneath the surface, and this game does not let down on that part with numerous collectibles waiting to be found and toads crying for their much-needed rescues.

    A few parts of the game are, admittedly, disappointing to the point I don't feel completely satisfied, but the entire journey was a real fun ride and many fond memories were created after playing what took a full week because I wanted to see everything the game's got and in the end, I got everything I wanted, and it was amazing. Amazing for what it is.

    I would definitely recommend it for the newer fans who will buy this as their very first Paper Mario game. Trust me, you will enjoy this one!    … Expand

There are a couple of issues here and there, which is why I can't quite bring myself to give this a full 10/10, but it was still an incredible experience for me, even as someone who despised sticker star. I hope the fanbase comes around to this game one day the same way they did for super paper mario. I think this game is deserving a lot of praise that it's not getting right now.     I can understand some people being frustrated by some aspects of the game like combat or the lackluster character design in some places, but this is truly one of the most, if not the most, charming paper mario. The dialogue and humor is some of the best to date, the world is the most beautifully crafted one yet, and the story is actually good. The soundtrack, for example, is absolutely amazing.
    I find that most of the people rating this low have never played the game and are joining the hate bandwagon that the paper mario community seems to join just because the new games aren't carbon copies of TTYD or 64.
    Many concepts change and I'm actually grateful for that since a lot of these new features are welcome and propel the game towards new heights and develop it further. All in all, I can't really understand why people truly hate this game. It's amazingly done, and one of the best mario games out there. I just wish people wouldn't rate it based on the online hate or even the lack of playing the game itself.
    To conclude, this game is truly great. As a diehard fan of 64 and TTYD I feel like Nintendo is going in the right direction. There are of course things to improve, but overall this was really enjoyable.     -graphics -Music -one of the partners has a very great scene which gives them a lot of characters despite having a generic design -the weapons and accessories make up for no exp
    -Jokes that actually make you laugh Cons
    -battle system might not be for everyone -not many original character designs

    Overall an amazing game i would definitely recommend

    Amazing spectacular game and easily the best paper Mario. Fun and engaging battle system, just drop down gorgeous visuals, big expansive open world levels with tons to find and explore, the best video game music I’ve heard in a while, and the best writting the series have ever seen. Don’t listen to the bad reviews, this game is one of the best switch games.

    The biggest issue is unlike TTYD and SPM, it doesn’t make enough of an effort to dive beneath deeper waters. I feel like they could of taken an opportunity to expand upon the Vellumentals and the Bibilofolds instead of just making them bosses you have to fight and plot devices you need to pick up. OK doesn’t have its own version of Grifty who explains the lore behind the game like TTYD and SPM do.

    Like, Olly’s motivations were because of a Toad scribbling on him? That’s...kind of lame. Even if the game DOES seem fine with making fun of the “deep” aspect of PM, there should of at least been more of an effort to flesh out Olly’s character like Count Bleck and make him someone we can sympathize with.

    In terms of story it’s definitely a step in the right direction, but they could do SO MUCH more with it. I was happy that they gave us some insight into Bobby as a character, and if they take the extra step to build a more immersive environment then Origami King would of been PERFECT.

    As for the combat, the ring-based system is DEFINITELY a massive improvement over SS and CS’s battle system, in that it actually puts more emphasis on strategy. There were moments where I was genuinely scratching my head and wasting coins on extra time. The biggest gripe I have is that it's incredibly unrewarding at times...if you aren't able to solve the puzzles fast enough you only get maybe 100-150 coins for clearing the battle. Not to mention the over world also kind of throws coins at you, even if it's not much. I feel like the ring-based system could work more IF they flesh it out a bit more.
    Overall, I give Origami King an 8/10. It's a fun little adventure that makes a half-step towards a return to form, but it could be SO MUCH better if they'd fleshed out the story a bit more and made the combat more rewarding.

    At this point, the future of Paper Mario is up in the air. There’s no sure way to tell whether or not the series will continue to abandon its RPG roots or even opt to remaster the older games. All we can do is hope for the best and that Nintendo makes decisions that will please everybody.    … Expand

Overall, not a fan but I respect the opinions of anyone who likes or dislikes this game. Add shuckle to smash bros. There are no bug or rock types on the smash roster and I think the game suffers because of it. Also shuckle does the most damage in the game so itThis game is absolutely atrocious. I hate it greatly.     Excellent writing and overall presentation. The game is not easy and will challenge you with its divisive battle system that I personally really enjoy. It’s a celebration of everything Mario with plenty of jokes and events to keep you engaged. Highly recommended.

    I love this game, and im only on chapter 2! Very fun, and beautiful worlds, and plenty of secrets to find. I don't mind the battle system too much, I think it's fun enough. The graphics are great! it's story is good enough , this game is great! I recommend you buy this, and play it for yourself!

In addition, battles usually seem rather pointless from a progression perspective as there are no experience points; usually, the only rewards for completing them are confetti (used to fill in parts of the world) and coins, which are found in abundance in the world anyway.

    Overall, The Origami King is a fine entry in the series. An improvement over Color Splash, but it doesn't reach pre-Sticker Star heights.    … Expand

    Paper Mario deserves better. The prestige of a Final Fantasy veteran appropriating his magic onto a handicraft world deserves better. The unforgettable wit and lovable cast expanding Mario lore deserves better. And we know that Intelligent Systems can do better than committing themselves to a misguided identity crisis.
