    (I have not played Mercenaries, this is solely about the main game).

    As a teen, I pretty much only had RE4 on my PS2 to play for over a year. It was one of my favorite games, so I was really hesitant for this remake as I had such fond memories of the original. Thankfully, I absolutely adored this remake. It feels how I remember the original game, but with additions and upgrades that    (I have not played Mercenaries, this is solely about the main game).

    As a teen, I pretty much only had RE4 on my PS2 to play for over a year. It was one of my favorite games, so I was really hesitant for this remake as I had such fond memories of the original.

    Thankfully, I absolutely adored this remake. It feels how I remember the original game, but with additions and upgrades that we've come to expect from games these days. Inventory, enemies, health and ammo handling, the cheesy one-liners, the absurd puzzles, the over the top villains - it's all still very much RE4. But smoother, more detailed, more areas to explore, more variety, more possibility of making each run unique.

    Combat feels intuitive but very much keeps what makes it tense and challenging. Still a lot of kneecaps to shoot and villagers to roundhouse kick. The knife mechanics (it has durability and can be used to parry) took me some time to get a hang of but now that I do, I really enjoy that change as well.

    Additionally crafting and trade/economy systems have been upgraded to include more modern and strategic elements. For example, merchant requests now provide you with currency that is used for specific weapons, gems, and upgrade shortcuts. You can still upgrade and purchase regular items if you don't want to do the sidequest kind of content. For me, this added a lot of replayability value, as I can play this very differently on every run. (yes I did all of them. All).

    There are a couple of new weapons, new enemy variants and areas. For me they all fit very naturally into how I remember the game.

    This is the first game in a long time that I restarted immediately after finishing it.

    I loved the game! but I would give it an 9/10 because I did not like all aspects compared to the original, like for example what they did with Ada, this is one of my favorite characters and in the remake the voice is weird and the emblematic encounters with Leon change and feel underwhelming now.

    Great game, they fix everything of what was wrong in the original, dont get me wrong, the original is a masterpiece, but this is by far superior, they fix mechanics and added things that the original didnt have, a new classic, love it.

    So so good, this game really made my inner child SCREAM of excitement. RE4 will forever be my fav childhood game. If you love the original RE4, TRUST, you will want to play the remake. I only gave it a 9/10 because a certain boss was cut out (obviously I'm mad about it) but nonetheless, it's still an amazing game.

    This game is great a must play if you enjoyed the original it fixes most problems the game had mostly with its tank control movement and being unable to move while aiming or shooting.

    love the gameplay in this game. The shooting is satisfying, there a lot of weapons, skills and gadgets that you can use to your advantage and the stealth is pretty cool.

    It´s a great game and experience. Of course the original has some details that today aren´t as good as before and Capcom removed it, but the dark tone and gameplay are fantastic. Something that lack´s off are the microtranstion of upgrade tickets, that can be purchase with real money, but this doesn´t compromise the experience. The RE community is aways stupid to hate the game with OldIt´s a great game and experience. Of course the original has some details that today aren´t as good as before and Capcom removed it, but the dark tone and gameplay are fantastic. The RE community is aways stupid to hate the game with Old boomers nostalgic classics and attacking VA, but time moves on and nonsense things are being adressed by companies nowadays. This people are sick and aways treated some carachters as a Jerk off material. I liked the new approach of caracters are good to Ok, nothing fantastic but fits in the story. Have nothing to complain, besides separate ways that should be FREE for the price that capcom is asking for, but still looks great.… Expand

    Xbox Series X Review - I am a fairly large fan of the Resident Evil, or 'Biohazard', franchise and have played through many of the games at least once. I, and many others, consider the original Resident Evil 4 to be one of the most revolutionary and ground breaking video games of all time, which is why it was such a risk for Capcom to remake it. However, this risk has--for the mostXbox Series X Review - I am a fairly large fan of the Resident Evil, or 'Biohazard', franchise and have played through many of the games at least once. I, and many others, consider the original Resident Evil 4 to be one of the most revolutionary and ground breaking video games of all time, which is why it was such a risk for Capcom to remake it. However, this risk has--for the most part--payed off. The gameplay is a massive upgrade when compared to the originals somewhat dated combat. The introduction of knife parrying and modern third-person shooting mechanics makes the games updated combat feel fluent and extraordinarily fun. The game also looks great, is decently written, and has a lot more eerie 'survival horror' elements than the original, which is A OK with me. That being said, there are some sections of the game that are just flat out unfair and a grind to get through, with unending waves of enemies piling on to you, at times seemingly out of nowhere. Much like the original games, the last 1/3 of the game also feels like a bit of a grind, as well as a bit tonally off. Also, despite the game looking fantastic, the lighting/gamma seemed oversaturated when in the outside sections of Salazar Castle; this could be a problem on my end though, so think of this more as a nitpick. Generally though, I do recommend playing this game. Even with these flaws, Resident Evil 4 is still a fun and wild ride that celebrates the parts of the original 2004 game that made it such an awesome experience.… Expand

    Extrañe aun jefe, agradecí que otro enemigo especial no estuviera, y muchos otros me dieron una horrorosa sorpresa, lo digo como algo positivo, no creía posible que los regeneradores pudieran dar más miedo.

    I'm always forgiving games but this crap makes me so mad that I have to write a review about it. First, patching microtransactions after all ratings have been released is dishonest and disgusting. Second, the stupid AI of teammates brings additional difficulty, which is not fun at all.     This is my first ever Resident Evil game that I finished, and I fell in love with it. I heard the original resident evil 4 game was the best and people still are playing it still to this day. I'm not even a big fan of this genre. I'm huge fan of games that are RPG/Adventure with character creation. This game somehow pulled me in every time and wanted to see more of Leons story. I watchedThis is my first ever Resident Evil game that I finished, and I fell in love with it. I'm going to play resident evil 3 remake next because I want to know more about the lore. I'm also getting used to the over the shoulder 3rd person look. Dodging is the only negative thing about these games but I'm not taking points from this because I am progressing through the story. Resident evil 4 has variety of enemies, weapons, characters, and even cheesy/bad-ass lines. I want to play this game a second time to try beat my original score and try different weapons. Don't get fooled by the scores and what people are saying. If you are hesitant about buying this game that's ok, wait for a sale or price drop then buy it. I'm not giving this a 10 because of the scores it's getting. It's my honest thoughts about this game. SO FAR THIS IS MY GAME OF THE YEAR!… Expand

    I’m sure that naysayers and die-hard fans of the 2005 iteration will find things to complain about, but viewed as its own entry, this game will no doubt leave its unique mark on the video game landscape as a truly remarkable achievement made by passionate developers. GOTY

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Resident evil 4 was never my favorite in the series, but that being said i think this is a very solid remake. There is certain sections cut from the game and replaced or reworked to a degree. As someone who has played the original a handful of times, I think I can say it can coincide next to the original. Unfortunately, I have to say Resident Evil 2 to me is the better remake, although this game does add a lot of side quest to add to the game for more depth. I think the more disappointing thing for me is the boss fights felt a little lackluster than the original. Now as a game by itself, lets just pretend the original doesn't exist for a second. I think Capcom has a solid enough game here to entice new players to the series. The only other complaints i have is the graphical bugs on the xbox series versions of the game that cause the textures to constantly switch back and forth between detailed and low textured. From a distance it doesn't bother me but when zoomed into a puzzle and trying to solve it hurts my eyes and i have to hurry and solve the puzzles as quickly as possible. I’m not saying that just to be funny but it legit causes my eyes to want to cross. Im not sure if it has to with the wobble effect while focusing on something or a rendering issue but hopefully it gets fixed. Final thoughts: Positives:
    - More fleshed out characters
    - Reworked story elements
    - Mostly faithful to the original
    - Side missions to enhance the merchant mechanics
    - Ability to walk and use weapons
    - More enemy variety

    Negatives
    - Adas voice work sounds weird like it wasn't recorded right also not a fan of her new voice just wish they kept Jolene Andersen as ada
    - Some sections can drag and some can be too short
    - Difficulty can seem to vary too much at times to get certain grade ratings (assisted - too easy, standard - easy, hardcore/professional- too hard).

    Después de sacar el platino del juego, creo que puedo dar una opinión objetiva como voz autorizada. No entiendo la cantidad de hate al juego, porque es una obra maestra, RE4 Remake hizo lo imposible, superar la obra maestra que fue el RE4 Original. Se que muchos no estarán de acuerdo con esta afirmación, principalmente por el factor nostalgia que evita que puedan quitarse la venda de laDespués de sacar el platino del juego, creo que puedo dar una opinión objetiva como voz autorizada. No entiendo la cantidad de hate al juego, porque es una obra maestra, RE4 Remake hizo lo imposible, superar la obra maestra que fue el RE4 Original. Se que muchos no estarán de acuerdo con esta afirmación, principalmente por el factor nostalgia que evita que puedan quitarse la venda de la subjetividad, pero RE4 Remake es superior en todos los apartados sin duda, graficamente, en sonido, en jugabilidad, en desarrollo de personajes, etc...

    Hay algunos niños rata que están molestos porque no incluyeron el contenido adicional del RE4 original como Separate Ways o por que incluyeron las microtransacciones... Dude, esas microtransacciones no son obligatorias, las compras si quieres, si no, no es necesario comprarlas, no entiendo porque tanto lloriqueo sobre este tema. Por otro lado los DLCs estarán próximamente disponibles también.

    En conclusión, mi consejo es que no se dejen influenciar por las malas reseñas de Metacritic, seguramente muchas de esas personas no jugaron el juego, RE4 Remake no te decepcionara, hizo un trabajo magistral, si acaso lo único que no me gustó fue que Leon se mueve algo lento, pero eso le agrega un factor de tensión extra que le viene muy bien al Gameplay. 10/10 Capcom la volvió a romper.    … Expand

    Great game, just as fun as original back in early 2000's. Both new players and fans should be satisfied - there are couple of changes toward the initial release, but I think they are in favor of the new version.

    A top tier remake of one of the greatest games of all time. This is how you remake a game, almost everything is an improvment to the original, there are a couple of things that the original does better, but overall it's an amazing experience and great way to replay a timeless classic.

    Lo han mejorado absolutamente todo, es el resident evil con mejor desarrollo de personajes a la fecha, me encantó lo que hicieron para mejorar la historia, en cuanto al gameplay la mecánica del cuchillo fue un gran añadido a la fórmula, las nuevas armas y el sonido de las mismas igual estan muy muy bien, ojo al soundtrack en las batallas con los jefes... Pff... Gráficamente para mí es loLo han mejorado absolutamente todo, es el resident evil con mejor desarrollo de personajes a la fecha, me encantó lo que hicieron para mejorar la historia, en cuanto al gameplay la mecánica del cuchillo fue un gran añadido a la fórmula, las nuevas armas y el sonido de las mismas igual estan muy muy bien, ojo al soundtrack en las batallas con los jefes... Pff... Gráficamente para mí es lo mejorcito que hemos visto hasta ahora en esta generación y además corriendo a 60 fps en modo resolución sin Ray tracing, es todo un logro. En mi partida no ví Bugs, solo un poco de bajones de FPS en la parte de la lluvia pero no fue molesto y según ya lo arreglaron con actualización.

    Capcom decidió añadir cosas nuevas y quitar algunas que REALMENTE ERAN NECESARIAS ELIMINAR, estoy muy satisfecho con el resultado.

No even multiplayer but definitely not single player. Thanks for ruining the game. If your gonna do this then pass the game onto someone who won't do this. Never do this again!

    too many things were changed, removed and censored compared to the original to be considered a mere enhancement, and not enough were changed to be seen as a distinct game in its own right. this remake did not need to exist

Capcom, parabéns, simplesmente deu aula de como fazer um remake fidedigno ao jogo original, descartando o que deveria ser descartado e adicionando elementos condizentes com a proposta da obra, conheci Resident Evil pelo 4, assim como a maioria esmagadora dos fãs desta franquia de Survival Horror consolidada a nível mundial, senti uma nostalgia tremenda com este remake, revisitando os cenários, historia e personagens do original assim como as magnificas trilhas sonoras, certamente este remake substitui o original, evidentemente teve algumas falhas no quesito lore, com em relação a Operação Ravier citada no remake e minunciosamente alterada que meio que "descanonizou" a Operação Ravier original do Darkiside Chronices, mas emfim, meu maior respeito a este grande remake, para mim o melhor ja feito pela capcom no que tange reformulação de um jogo da franquia, eu realmente ainda não consigo entender e esquecer o desastre ambulante e desrespeitoso que foi o Resident Evil 3 remake, que sim, veio como um brinde afrontoso do Multiplayer esquecível do projeto Resistence, você capcom sempre sera lembrada por esta falha, ainda aguardo o verdadeiro remake do 3 Nemesis pois este para mim foi uma DLC do RE2 remake. Não obstante, venho aqui salientar os anseios do publico de Resident Evil que pedem o remake do Resident Evil Code Verônica a tampo tempo, espero que façam, o jogo realmente precisa de um remake, e também agora do Resident Evil 5 já que fizeram aquela cena final do remake que foi um verdadeiro prequel dos planos dominativos e "Eugenistas" de Albert Wesker, finalizo aqui minha confabulação, e mais uma vez capcom, meus parabéns, continue respeitando os seus produtos e publico.… Expand

    It is a great Game but not on the Same Level as the orginal What is really a big Problem is getting S+. I'm not SO bad in Videogames. But this is simple ridiculous. It's ok to make something hard but not to hard + you have to rush because you have to do it in under 5 1/2h and with only 15 saves. There is something like hard and then there is something like ridiculous...

    Re4 is a good game. It has always been a good game. And I bought it knowing it was a good game. But then capcom added microtransactions. Pay to progress mechanics and added grind. And it really is grind to force purchases. And they did all this after selling millions and the reviews were out which is really really bad on so many levels. And it wasn't necessary.     Similar to how The Last of Us Part 2 was to Part 1, RE4make improves over the original technically but with some divisive choices and changes.     My last RE game was RE2 on pc in early 2000s. I thought the remake of 4 will be a good time to pick it up, but after playing it for an hour or 2, I realized I didn't really miss much. This game impresses me as extremely awkward. Is it a third person shooting game? It has guns, but the pistol is weaker than a sling shot, and even shotgun couldn't kill anything efficiently, plus there neverMy last RE game was RE2 on pc in early 2000s. There're some enemies you can kill from behind, but that only makes up like 10% of them tops. So bottomline, I don't know what the **** is this. As a shooting game, it's not snappy and satisfying enough. It's a game you kinda shoot, kinda kick, kinda infiltrate, kinda fight boss, but at the end of day, you just got chased by a bunch of zombies and hope you can find a way to get to the next section.     Imagine my dissapointment when i bought a new tv and ps5 cause RE4 was about to come out. Can't believe they managed to bring a game in ps5 that looks worse than Village on ps4. Straight cash grab from Capcom this time. Blurry graphics, bad gun aiming, voice acting worse thatn the original, stuttering textures (see the metal roofs on village's valley and pieces of wood in the houses walls)Imagine my dissapointment when i bought a new tv and ps5 cause RE4 was about to come out.     Mercador: gostaria que ele fizesse comentários em relação às situações que o Leon passa, como, por exemplo, após lutar com um gigante ou outro Boss, ou após chegar nele com vida baixa ou ter muita arma no inventário, etc... + linhas de diálogo em relação à história e as situações do personagem.    Amei o jogo, joguei 170h atualmente, está maravilhoso, mais vou dizer pontos a melhorar:

    Tesouros: alguns tesouros como a coroa deveriam ser únicos, pois deveria ser parte da história do castelo e seus castelões, mais é possível pegar 2 coroas no jogo, o que não faz sentido algum, outras joias também deveriam ser únicas e em lugares específicos, alguns baus enormes no game para guardar um rubi, alguns baus minúsculos para guardar um tesouro valioso, deveria ser ajustado isso para fazer mais sentido.

    Jogabilidade: algumas armas poderiam ter a opção de mudar o modo de tiro, como o Rifle de Assalto, colocando manual e semi-automático, ao invés de sempre ser automático, no menu inspecionar é possível ver que a arma tem essa opção no seu design, mas não tem como usar isso. Outro ponto, a mira em primeira pessoa do rifle parece um filtro da arma na tela, ficou estranho, daria para fazer algo melhor nessa parte, poderia ser parecido com alguns outros jogos em primeira pessoa, não somente um PNG da arma na tela... Armadilhas, armadilhas de urso não dá dano algum, o que é ridículo, deveria pelo menos tirar um cadinho da vida, no profissional deveria tirar muita vida, sim, não faz o menor sentido. Armadilha explosiva que faz barulho??? Como assim??? As armadilhas de linha deveriam ser silenciosas, não faz sentido ter aquele barulho avisando que tem uma por perto. Principalmente no profissional, na dificuldade facilitada eu ate relevaria.

    Respiração: durante qualquer corrida que você dá, o Leon e a Ashley respiram como 2 asmáticos a beira da morte, o Leon ainda é de boa, mais a Ashley fica gemendo toda hora, chegando a ser meio constrangedor de ouvir

    Física: a física da água e de alguns objetos está ruim, você olha para lanternas penduradas por corda que deveriam pesar uns 3kg, ao vento, parece um papel balançando toda bugada, aquelas cordas em alguns mapas como o cânion, todas parecem sem nenhum peso, sem física, ficam balançando irrealisticamente pelo cenário... Dellago, a água na luta contra ele, parece uma gelatina, o barco se move para a esquerda e direita sem você usar o leme na parte do motor, totalmente irrealista a movimentação do barco, ou você atira, ou você move o barco, no clássico é assim, só aqui eles cagaram com isso.

    Inteligencia Artificial: controlar a Ashley piorou comparado ao clássico, porque no clássico você tinha algum controle sobre ela, você podia deixar ela em um lugar e avançar sozinho, agora você pede para ela manter distância, mais esse não é o problema ão grande afinal, o problema maior é que ela não foge dos ganados direito, se você manda ela se afastar e ela é capturada, ela se agacha e fica esperando no mesmo lugar, para ser capturada dnovo, varias vezes, isso deixa o jogador sem controle da situação, em lugares apertados, ela fica
    passando na frente da arma, tem que melhorar muito ainda a inteligência dela... Outro ponto, os ganados se matão sozinhos, jogando bomba neles mesmo, caindo em armadilhas que eles mesmos colocaram, se colocando fogo, etc... eles poderiam sem um pouco mais expertos, pelo menos em dificuldades como o profissional.

    Cutscenes: Algumas cenas estão muito apressadas, não da nem tempo para desenvolver a história, por exemplo, você desamarra o Luis, ai ele pede cigarro, imediatamente depois chega o Bitores, você desmaia, você recebe as plagas, tipo isso tudo em 30-40 segundos do nada, poderiam ter estendido um pouco a cena para fazer um pouco mais de sentido e não ser tão artificial. Outra cena depois que você acorda, não fala nada, quebra a corrente, o ganado vem, você mata ele, e acabou, a cena ficou muito foda, mas não tem interação com o Luis praticamente, não tem dialogo dele sendo policial, etc.. Poderia tem um desenvolvimento melhor nessa parte. Em outras cenas também, não foi mostrado o Bitores se transformando, nem a transformação do Salazar.

    Historia: (esses pontos podem ser resolvidos com o SeparateWays quando lançar) cade o U3 e o JJ e o segundo Elgigante? O que acontece com o Verdugo se você fugir da luta contra ele? (furo de roteiro?) como que a ilha explodiu no final? Não teve nenhuma menção disso historia.

    The Mercenaries: você não ganha nada jogando isso e conseguindo S++, poderia ter novos desploqueaveis no modo mercenário... algumas animações dos personagens são as mesmas que o Leon, por exemplo, aparar com a faca, facadas stealth, rolar, pular obstáculos, tudo reutilizado, todos fazem a mesma animação que o Leon, cade os detalhes Capcon??? faltou capricho    … Expand

    Um excelente remake, mantendo a nostalgia e paixão pelo game assim como em 2005.
    Gráficos lindos e uma re-imaginada total nas ordens do mapa. As inovações e coisas acrescentados ao game deixam ainda mais imerssivo!!

    Depois de meses esperando para jogar Resident Evil 4 Remake a Capcom trouxe um remake realmente fiel e bem pensado. o jogo não só correspondeu,mais também superou todas as minhas expectativas. Tá ótimo em todos os sentidos, gráficos, gameplay, história (que tá bem fiel, por sinal), trilha sonora, ambientação, tudo. A dublagem brasileira está ótima. Nota 10/10

However I was pleased to find out that RE4 turned out much better than expected. Fans of the original will surely see the many easter eggs and callouts from the original game.     I always think that a remake title is meant to replace the og, because when a remake is released,    Resident Evil 4 Remake is the best remake title available on the market currently (2023) in my opinion. Compared with the og RE4 released in 2005, this remake successfully achieved balance in remained faithful to the og while delivering fresh reimagine and enhanced RE4 story to the og fans.

    I always think that a remake title is meant to replace the og, because when a remake is released, very little new players would want play the og since there is a modernized version of that game exist. Because of that, I always think the developers should stay 100% faithful in the og story and source materials, all they need to do is just modernize the og experience to modern video games standard in terms of graphic, gameplay mechanics, story enhancement and etc. But in the remake, even though some of the og experience was cut out, the developers put more efforts in enhancing the story, lore, character personalities and background story, making the remake a more well paced story with a more logic gameplay experience, since some of the exaggerated or unnecessary level design that is not impactful to the core story are removed and instead replaced by contents and narrative that significantly flesh out the world and the characters.

    The gameplay experience in the remake is also more fast-paced and intense, enemies are faster, stronger, smarter and harder to stagger, and actively intent to surround the player really pose a challenge to even those who played the og before and can easily being overwhelmed by the enemies.

    Another gameplay experience worth mentioning when compared to the og is resource management. Resources such as ammo, healing item has a lower drop rate and less often to be found in the remake. Even the basic knife that exist since the og now has a durability meter in the remake which will be broken when overused. Therefore, players must consider different approach to defeat enemies using limited resources as possible. This gameplay aspect also make the remake more towards the series's survival horror theme rather than the og.

    As a fan of the original RE4 and it is one of my earliest beloved game since childhood, the RE4 Remake has again delivered the same satisfying experience that the og once offered. With that being said, the og and the remake are different enough that the remake won't be able to replace the og because many of the classic and fun level design can only be experienced in the original. That doesn't mean the remake failed to recreate the same fun that Resident Evil 4 have offered since 2005 but rather it's just a different approach to tell a minor-tweaked if not completely same RE4 story. Even though Resident Evil 4 remake has cut content and minor changes, it has no less than the og have to offer and in some aspect, it even have surpassed the original Resident Evil 4.

    I want to say this out loud, the og RE4 and the remake are both masterpiece, both are one of the most important game in the series and in the gaming industry. Big salute to Capcom for letting me experience again the fun once brought by Resident Evil 4 decades ago during my childhood. I actually feel happy and sad when I finished the remake because I have been waiting a game that could bring me the same sense of satisfaction when completing the og RE4 since my childhood, and never have I thought that the game that bring me that same satisfaction is non other than Resident Evil 4 remake itself. The huge satisfactory after completing the remake is still the same to me back when I completed the og after so many years, this nostalgia is something that I'll never forget.     A very good remake. I'd given it a 9 if it wasn't for the microtransactions that were added post-lauch. However, if you simply don't pay for any additional crap and if you are not an idiot (for example because you spot "woke" things everywhere without being able to tell what the word "woke" is actually supposed to mean) you'll like the game.

I can totally say that this game is the best Remake of Resident Evil and probably one of the best Remakes ever done. Capcom implemented new mechanics such as the stealth and the durability of your knife, they completely made a mix of New map design, new and more comfortable controls, filling some narrative holes, new mechanics, an interesting changes on the story mode, it is indeed truth that they removed some segments of the game, but they compensated it with good things, making you not even realising those segments are gone. The value of replay is as good as the original, having a lot of challenges trophies and secret weapons, it dares you to try the Hard and Professional mode and try to get the S+ rank, wich of course isnt going to be easy, there is a thousand and one reasons to replay the game. It really is a masterpiece and as someone that played the original dozens of times, i can say the Remake is better than the original. It's truly worth every cent.… Expand

This is the game that some people will argue is objectively the greatest game of all time? First, the story was incredibly weak. It peaks in its opening hours and only goes downhill from there. I found Salazar and Saddler to be completely forgettable villains. Next, the gameplay. I found myself screaming at my TV in anger constantly because of how slowly Leon moves. The game is in a constant battle with itself because it wants to be a traditional survival horror game and a fast paced action game at the same time. I frequently found myself in situations that I felt were unfair simply because I couldn't move Leon out of the way in time before I'm being swarmed by 10 enemies who seeming came out of nowhere. Not to mention, the game has no consistency when it comes to fighting enemies. Sometimes a single headshot and a kick is enough to finish them off, and sometimes that same enemy takes 12 headshots and multiple roundhouse kicks to the face to finish off. It doesn't help that aiming your gun never feels right. This makes several moments such as trying to shoot small targets like the Regeneradors' weak spots more trouble than it is worth. The voice acting is also pretty mediocre. There are a few stand out performances (Luis, Ashley, and the Merchant), but most of the voice actors just feel like they don't want to even be here (looking at you Ada). This remake actually makes me want to pick up the original at some point to see if it is any better. At best, I can describe this as a soulless experience. I would argue that if you are a die hard RE fan and absolutely must play it, wait six or seven months until it is inevitably added to Game Pass and PS+ as free titles.… Expand

The same happens here. Leon is a TEEN now. He has a teenager's voice and a younger appearance. And talking about appearance, his design is wrecked. In some angles, he looks like he has mumps and looks like he fried for 12 hours per day in the sun. He can't shut his mouth during the gameplay and can't stop making mean jokes. He looks angry all the time, always edgy like Dante from Ninja Theory was. Original Leon is always calm, always confident with a side smile. He looks mature and much more well-designed. He tells jokes but always with a serene tone because he's super secure and badass, like Dante from Capcom is. Remake Leon is totally the opposite. He's perfect for this new edgy teenager generation who likes to listen to Phonk all day long, dreaming about becoming a man they never will. The voice of the ganados is trash. They kinda talk now; there's almost no harshness in their voices like they used to have in the original. Saddler is an old grandpa and looks feeble now with his bald ass head and generic villain personality. Perfect for a cartoon villain. Ada sounds like my 56-year-old aunt. Updated graphics, cheesy one-liners and more character exploration and development. Some things are cut, or re-worked entirely but there is clear homage to the original 2005 game that series veterans will love.     After finishing the game I have to say this is a 10/10 as a remake. I heard a lot or criticism about Ada Wong voices, but since I play in Spanish, I'm out of that racist drama. And yes, I play in Spanish even tho I speak English lol... Optional modes were not included    It is a very nice remake.     Optional modes were not included at first but the other day the launched an update that includes the Mercenaries (free of charge) mode from the original and maybe they do the same with Ada Wong play mode. The only thing I have to say is that apparently many voices in Spanish are not included, so for example there are conversations where one character is talking and has no voice, but the rest do. I think they will be patching this as soon as they recorded every voice.

    Edit: I take 2 points away of the game being a 8/10 since they included microtransactions in the game. Apparently there is a common practice these days for the companies releasing games without microtransactions and then after a few days they update the game and allow you to pay for winning. What we used to do with cheat codes now we do with cheat wallets. Disgusting practices. I'm all against microtransactions and I'm taking out 2 points.    … Expand

    Actually a good remake but suffers from technical issues : Save files can corrupt and the visual fidelity on PS5 is much worse than on Xbox as chromatic aberration is bugged & checkerboarding ruins image quality.

    Haven't finished the game but just want to say most of these "reviews" scream unhinged and mentally ill. You Resident Evil fans are so weird and need to do better. I'll give a full rating and review once I'm done with it but WOW you guys need to get some help.

    Let's be honest for once. The RE community is getting too toxic. Capcom did their best to remake the game so all RE4 fans could play it, and now they hate it because of some small changes they made in the game. Talk about the VA of Ada, I agree that it ruins the character, but not like that so you guys can thread the VA? They also rework the ADA and add separate ways of doing DLC sometimes too (DLC is confirmed, but not so sure with the VA).

    Now for the game itself, it's still fun and playable. For me, the RE engine did a very good job of developing the game. With some old graphics cards, the game is still playable and looks fantastic in the middle settings. Ashley is now more useful in the game, and those skips you can do in the game can help you speedrun the game more quickly (100 points for the dev team). Luis now has more screen time and a much darker backstory, which he didn't have in the original. The Salazar boss fight is now more difficult, and there is now another way to defeat him instead of shooting him with an RPG. The gameplay itself is now more difficult and fun, Leon now has more ways to defend and eliminate the enemies. The gory death animation is now back in the remake. The story is still the same as the original, and they are not cutting anything to make the story shorter like they did in RE3 (I know, they just cut the laser room, U3 boss fight, incendiary bomb, etc.), but not too much that would make the game too short to play.

    Long story short, RE4 is a game you need to try. If you are new to the RE series, you are still fine to play it, and maybe you will become more interested in the lore in the RE series. It's still a great game, just like the original; both versions are still good and playable.    … Expand

Updated locations, character models, weapons, all this looks amazing. I also really liked how some enemies have changed, unlike the original, for example, now the zealots in red robes are not just enemies with a large supply of health, but sorcerers who with the help of a scarlet flame release Las Plagas from the bodies of enemies, and now you need to choose the most ideal approach to defeat all enemies. The battle with Del Lago looks very cinematic, when fighting this boss, it feels like you're watching a cool movie. I would like to express my great gratitude to the developers for retaining many of the usual game moments from the original, but at the same time modernizing them.     It's a good game and a great remake. There are fewer crazy scenes and more serious and epic moments, I love that. Maybe Ada's voice actor didn't do a very good job, but FOR ME PERSONALLY it didn't affect the performance in any way. She was in the game for only 4-5 scenes. First of all, I evaluate the game, not the voice acting. And I enjoyed the game. Thanks capcom.

    Great game and great games deserves to be recommended and played. Especially good if you play in Performance Mode and disable a few settings and adjust the aiming. Also a VRR supported display is recommended to mitigate any stuttering.

The story is more fleshed out with meaningful additions, the major characters are improved, and the gameplay is even more fun than before with greater challenge.     Leon controls horrible in this. Just the movement and especially the gun aiming is awful. Purposely unstable to “enhance the horror” of not being able to properly aim. Leon is supposed to be a professional so why is he a wobbly mess? The game even goes further to make this a bigger point in this one compared to the og that Leon went thru a ton of training since RE2 but nope, he can’t aim now. The original felt like the movement and aiming was built around the player so you’d always be in control of the situation, now it’s built around the world and there is no controlling the situation. The knife is a lazy crutch for the devs to claim they added something new and interesting in the game. It works well when it does but it felt like that rarely ever happens. The pacing is awful. The original had so much great dialogue and fun cutscenes that practically got chopped to bits or changed for the worst. Example, isn’t it great how you don’t even get to kill the first villager in the first house at the beginning of the game? Now a cutscene kills him for you. Go down to the basement and kill another and they spoil the later reveal that the las plagas are in their heads. Why? It was such a cool moment in the original when they first started having their heads burst open and the remake devs couldn’t contain themselves. The third act of the remake is worse than the original and longer, while also removing a ton of enemies from the original. Shooting the lake is worse because they don’t know how to blend real time events and instead awkwardly cut to a cutscene. Cutting the fight with U3, the laser rooms, making annoying sidequests. It’s a much bumpier road than the smooth pace of the original.
    The characters are pretty much all worse except Ashley but there wasn’t too much they could change with her except making her bust small and no upskirt to fit with the sensitive times of today especially in an M rated game. Leon is a nervous wreck and talks too much now. Constant Marvel quips during fights are not funny or cool. For as much as people love meme-ing Leon of the original, he only made jokes a couple times throughout the game. The rest of the time he was pretty cool headed about everything. Saddler has a much smaller presence in the game which is a loss and they changed his voice for the worse. He’s not a fun villain anymore, now he’s Bowser from the 90’s Mario Bros movie with Voldemorts voice. Ada is a complete trainwreck, that’s all I need to say. Look up a youtube video of any of her cutscenes and you’ll understand. Luis is uglier and they really ruined his ending. Salazar’s new design is awful. On top of all this they gutted all the conversations on Leon’s radio. But isn’t it cool you get trophies dropping memberberries on some of those radio conversations? No, it’s not.
    The big cheese has a stupid hat, and looks genuinely less scary than the original and more like a big idiot so I don’t understand what happened there. The merchant talks way too much and he doesn’t sound nearly as good as the original guy. Do I even mention how they put in new costumes that all look awful with only a select few being carried over from the original? Of course no white shirt Ashley because that would be offensive and would upset game journalists.
    I’m not happy at all with this game but I’m also glad the original still isn’t replaceable. I don’t like where capcom is going with the Resident Evil franchise since 7 even though I liked it for what it was. It seems like they’re taking it in a very bland and modern day hollywood direction instead of trying to be innovative or creative. If they had put this energy into making a new RE instead of remaking 4, I think I would have liked it more. Now it just seems like an easy cashgrab. Especially true since based of how they end RE4 remake we may not even get a remake of the game that deserves it, Code Veronica, or even RE5 but that game also doesn't need a remake. Just not happy with where things look like they’re going for a series I once loved.    … Expand

    6.7, really? this has to be one of the best games I have ever played. Ya we all have different tastes, but 6.7... my butt. This was pure fun, lots of play time, and a massive improvement over the last gen. Super clean movement, targeting, an NO bugs. Awesome.

    May not be the scariest in the Resident Evil franchise. But it does fully embrace the B-movie camp, from the 2005 original. Making this a joy to play through, and another win for Capcom:)

    An amazing game overall!!!
    Great action , interesting characters(a little cliche maybe) , dark atmospheric graphics and finally one of the best gameplay experiences I have ever played.Also, it's a remake of a game that defined a new genre with a camera angle that inspired the best recent games like last of us , gears of war, mass effect etc.

    This game is harder than a dark souls game I don't think it's fun to die 5 times in every area.
    Now I've played 14 hours I don't even want to continue. THE GAME WONT LET YOU CHANGE THE DIFFICULTY! WTF.     The story of the game is a mediocre story, the gameplay is very enjoyable and attractive, in terms of visuals, it is equal to Cross Gen 2023 games and has a stunning visual, the main boss fights are very similar to each other. The sound design of the game is wonderful, the enemies have a good variety and only one new type of enemy has been added to the remake compared to the original version.

    Resident Evil 4 Remake not only does right by its original source of inspiration, but it also sets a high bar for what modern day remakes can be. All components of the story have been finetuned into a more well-thought out package, and that’s before mentioning the game’s full use of today’s graphical prowess to deliver a more terrifying interpretation of rural Spain. The core gameplay also retains what made it so great back in the day, but with modern amenities such as a parrying system, quick-select for weapons and the ability to run. And despite the new improvements, the increased aggressiveness of the enemies ensures that the game never feels like a cakewalk. I don’t know who still needs to be convinced at this point, but Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece that I cannot recommend enough.
