This remake is wonderful new version of RE4 and improves this game so much and brings it to modern standard. Better voice acting, amazing graphics, better dialogue, improved bossVery good remake.     This is the Resident Evil 4 Remake we all needed.
    I miss the dodging mechanic of RE3 R but overall a satisfying experience and I could not go back to any other RE4 releases.

    I'll be honest, it used to be a great series in the horror gaming world, but now it's just a name from the past. The game's audience cares more about the characters than the actual gameplay. It's a decent game, but it's overrated. If you were to give it to someone who has never played the game before, they would probably give it a maximum rating of 7.

    This is the greatest timeline! Feels so good to be horror fan in a time where best horror games are making full comeback! Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space Remake in same year? Hell yeah! Both were amazing as well and possibly Silent Hill 2 remake at the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024? Perfection!

In that sense, RE7 is garbage and not really RE game, because it had pretty much none of these elements. It felt more like one of these early 2010s indie horror games.     This person even states that he never cared for OG RE4 or even played it and that this is not what he considers RE. Like what?? This is the most popular RE game of all time. And then to say that RE7 (game that feels more like Outlast, than Resident Evil) is more Resident Evil, is just next level ridiculous. This review honestly made me speechless, i had no idea that people like this even exist. I'm serious. RE7, while yes it brought back horror, it hardly ever felt like actual RE game. It was boring hide and seek Outlast clone. Most people like RE games where you actually fight back and fight epic bosses. RE7 bosses are objectively worst in entire series. It was never truly scary either, most of the time, it was just annoying. And RE2, while it was very solid remake, it doesn't hold a candle to both OG RE4 or RE4R. It was always inferior game and that's okay, not everything can be Final Fantasy 7 and RE4 was Resident Evil's FF7 and always will be.

    REM4KE is terrible. I was too young to play the original RE4 when it came out, so my experience with the game is limited to a few scattered sections here and there across my later teenage years.     This remake certainly captures the 'seriously? there's more?' feeling from the original, which is one of the pieces I wish they'd left behind. RE4 is always wanting to go bigger, go more outlandish, and get more ridiculous, almost to the detriment of the experience. RE4 is not scary, but, more offensively, it's not even fun.

    Leon turns like a bus and feels like he's on ice skates. Sprinting is infinitesimally faster than just walking. Ashley's pathing was coded in DOS in 1988. The setting sucks and the levels are usually a straight shot from entrance to exit. The battle arenas are obvious when you walk into them and are usually built around you training the enemies so you can eventually run right past them to the exit. There are bizarre vehicle sections that offer the player almost nothing aside from the headache of having to use the least navigable map of all time.

    Many people will like the illusion of open linearity and the opportunity to really fight instead of scavenge and survive, but I'm not many people. I don't go to RE for the action set pieces or the third person shooting galleries (which you can find in every other game now), I go to RE for the horror. The dark, cramped hallways with fakeout enemies. Crawling under floorboards while your captor walks above. Scavenging every last bit of ammo just to try to clear the next enemy and survive another few minutes.

    I don't come here for the backflips, the quips, the military arsenal, the bad lighting, the dull atmosphere, the nameless, faceless enemies, the stupid "plaga" that is somehow less interesting than the dumb fungus from the new trilogy, escort missions, catapults that make an entire section of the game unplayable, CoD zombies simulations, idle weapon sway (speaking of CoD), weapon bloom, low-res textures in/on the castle, and Leon's **** side part.

    Resident Evil 4, then and now, is not a good Resident Evil game. Its success seems more a remnant of the 2000s video game zeitgeist when it was cool to pack as much schlock into your games as possible. It was the game that ushered many of us from gaming nascency to adolescence so the nostalgia is fair...

    ...but that doesn't excuse the game for still being a boring, bloated, middling third-person shooter that wants to be Gears of War more than it wants to be a RE game.

    If there was one thing I liked, it was that Leon's hands shook in the early chapters of the game. That's it.

    Many see RE4 as the apex of the series, as a rebound from 3, and as a peak that was never reached until 7. For me, RE4 is the disappointment that proves that RE2 and RE7 are lightning in a bottle. It's the continuation of the downslide started by RE3.

    Makes me so happy that whenever new RE fans will play RE4, they will ALWAYS play the remake and not the original, simply because Remake is just better version of this game.

    Well done remake, just as good as Dead Space remake or even Final Fantasy 7 remake, same level of detail and dedication! I'm also glad that 90% of the fans seem to agree, that this remake is very good and in most aspects even better than the OG. Of course there's always this small minority that complains about everything, but nobody cares about these losers lol.

    I did find the puzzles kind of uninteresting to be honest, and the boss fights are mostly bullet sponges, but I enjoyed the backtracking, going back to areas I already explored only to find more things, the way the world is interconnected makes exploring feel smooth.

    Definitely recommending this one, it's a very solid videogame experience that pleases both survival horror fans and action fans alike, a superb Remake.

I was too young to experience the original game when it released because I was born in 1999. The first time that I played the original Resident Evil 4 was in 2019 after Resident Evil 7 scared the living **** out of me in 2017 and gotCapcom has released with the Resident Evil 4 Remake one of the most anticipated remakes of all time for a game which revolutionized the video game industry. I was too young to experience the original game when it released because I was born in 1999. The first time that I played the original Resident Evil 4 was in 2019 after Resident Evil 7 scared the living **** out of me in 2017 and got me into this franchise, I decided to go back and play the other entry's after the Resident Evil 2 Remake pulled me even deeper into the franchise. Since then I've become a huge hardcore fan of the franchise but I'm also not the biggest fan of the original Resi 4 because it always felt like a "foreign body" in the franchise which was a result of the more action focus of the game. But I was still excited for the remake because Leon S. **** Kennedy ( "S" stands for sexy ) is one of my favorite characters of the Resident Evil Games and I wanted to know if Capcom could improve the original game so it has more of the Resi DNA to make it fit better into the franchise.
    And oh boy, did they succeed...hold on tight, rookie!
    Resident Evil 4 Remake is the highest rated game on Backloggd at the time of writing this review because Capcom has managed to remove almost 90% of the annoying segments and mechanics and they added new ones or improved old ones. The changes make the game feel finally more like a Resident Evil game but why just “almost” and not 100% you might think. This brings us to one of my two points of criticism which is the last big segment of the game, the island. I absolutely hated that segment when I played it in the original and sadly they didn't cut it out. But it was more fun in the remake simply because of the improved controls but it's still the worst part of this game. It's just way to much action and zero atmosphere, the island segment is really similar to Resi 5 and 6 and those are both pretty bad Resi games.
    For my first run I played on hardcore and it was really well balanced and felt more like normal difficulty. There are a few encounters which are more difficult like the cabin but it overall feels like the right way to play it. The intro works much better this time around because the whole Umbrella stock market crash was so rushed in the original. One of the most important improvements was that the remake has a more darker tone, lightning and atmosphere are really creepy. But it still manages to be campy and the characters still have their iconic lines. The sound design is phenomenal, I can't praise it enough. The manic chanting that gets louder the closer the farmers get, growls of wolves around you in the bushes, the sounds of a chainsaw motor in the distance all these sounds create a sense of dread. The most intense segment was the underground laboratory, hearing the Verdugo snarl in the vents around you gave me goosebumps. The gameplay loop is really additive and never gets boring because the gun play feels great. There are quite a few variations of weapons and the hit feedback well done. The remake has the right amount of madness that I expect from a Resi game like blocking an axe or pitchfork attack with a small knife, I love how chaotic it gets whenever I've entered a new segment. I always thought I had a plan, but it almost never went as planned and got chaotic fast. One thing that bothered me was that some level design decisions made it too easy and that the game wanted to hold my hand for too long. Like the yellow tapes for example which are everywhere. If it would be subtle then it doesn't bother me but it was way to frequently. But sadly that is how the industry works nowadays, everything has to be more casual. Luckily all other mechanics were improved or update to modern standards. Not only the gameplay and the graphics which are beautiful, there are also so many new animations and rarely have I seen such a level of detail in the animations and level design. Leon reacts to all kinds of stuff whether he is hurt, unsure or tense. He changes his posture and even facial expressions which you can easily overlook in the chaos of the fight. The feet of El Gigante also leave footprints or rain bounces off Leon's head, there are so many details that I could talk hours about them. Both characters, Ashley and Luis have also received a major improvement. Luis whole arc works so much better and it was cool when he helped you in fights. I was surprisingly sad when he died in the mines. Ashley is amazing and so cute. The chemistry between her and Leon is great. I was glad to see that Capcom kept small details like her fist pump whenever you shoot an enemy. In the original I was glad when she was taken away but in the remake I was sad and that's probably the biggest compliment that you can give.
    Overall this probably one the best remakes of all time if not the best. It plays with your expectations even for people that have played the original. this remake surpasses the OG in every way possible    … Expand

    Original was a absolutely phenomenal when it released in 2005, but this remake is somehow even better version of that game, so i would recommend playing this remake instead of OG.

    Remake improves lots of things, like level design, graphics, overall atmosphere, dialogue, voice acting (especially for Ashley), also movement is about million times better in remake.

    PLAY THE ORIGINAL. Graphics don't help mechanics and game design as bad as Chapter 9 and 14. There is a crystal clear, pure, perfect version of this game, and you can buy it remastered for your PS5. Don't bother with this horrific remake. They also don't understand the ammo scarcity of the first game and simply thought "don't put much ammo" was the mechanic. It wasn't. The original Resident Evil 4 game knew how to pace that so that it didn't become so frustrating you turned the game off.

    If this had been the original Resident Evil 4, no one would have heard of it. I'm starting to think modern game designers got their degrees from an unaccredited internet university. You can see the scam this game is by the "critical reviews" and user reviews. When you're starting with a pure 9.3 ranked game, you'd think there's no way to mess that up. But yeah, they did. They took one of the closest-to-perfect games in history and turned it into a mindless 7.8 slog. I hated every minute from chapter 9 on. To the people ranking this slog-fest a "10." Even the original isn't a 10. It's close but not there, so barf and laugh to your reviews. How much did PS pay you?

I love especially the visuals, the atmosphere and that it's scarier than the original. My only issue here is Leon's movement. It feels weird.     First of all I have to say that I consider the original RE4 a masterpiece and the best video game ever made and a remake of this game was going to be a task doomed to disappoint in some ways which this game indeed did. At the same time I enjoyed this game a lot (mainly because it felt fresh and new) and I see improvements here and there over the original that I would miss playing it again.First of all I have to say that I consider the original RE4 a masterpiece and the best video game ever made and a remake of this game was going to be a task doomed to disappoint in some ways which this game indeed did. At the same time I enjoyed this game a lot (mainly because it felt fresh and new) and I see improvements here and there over the original that I would miss playing it again.

    Before remaking a beast of a game which is RE4 you would first have to understand what made it so special in the first place and how it interprets horror because the game does it differently than it's predecessors. In some degree the devs of RE4R did but in a lot of points they failed to see the brilliance in some things that may not go with todays mainstream understanding of how (horror and action) games should look and play.

    One example visually: I am not an artist in any way but the original set an overwhelming mood by using colours and light. Especially the lighting is sometimes terrible in the remake and misses the point that the original made. RE4 is by no means bright but you are aware of the environment at all times because it is just well lit enough to see every detail of for example a room that you are in. Look at the water hall. It seems that in RE4R the devs just thought dark = spooky so we have to make it darker. Although that sometimes can be the case it just bad to generalize it so much. The point is the water room is not a place where something is lurking in the shadows, the horror is more like "here is the danger right in your face, deal with that, NOW". On the other hand there are areas where it does make sense to make it darker for example the labs where the regenerators lurk or the encounter of the first villager. The original achieves horror over stress (survival horror) which brings me to the next point.

    The gameplay: the main change in gameplay is that now you can perform reloading, relocating, shooting at the same time. I chose the word relocating because that is actually what you are doing in the original. You are looking for a good place to stop and shoot or reload. You are constantly evaluating these choices which creates what? Yes, stress! which again is part of the horror in this game. It also shows in the small amount of ammo and healing items that you will find in the game to always remind the player: shots count! enemy hits count! The remake on the other hand is taking a different approach by saying that now you have to be in constant movement. Just standing in a corner will not help you anymore which the village fight perfectly demonstrates. I actually like this idea a lot but feel that the devs failed to implement it in the rest of game which was designed to work with the relocating approach. Which brings me to the next thing I really dislike about the remake: the staggers. Now enemies can tank headshots while the original was rewarding every headshot with a 100% stagger to lead to a powerful roundhouse to make space for you. Ok, you don’t need that any more as now you are more agile but I have to say that it just is not as fun as the original where, like I mentioned, you feel rewarded every time you hit a headshot.

    To the soundtrack I have to say that again the remake fails to understand the original in some aspects. While the soundtrack of the original has a lot of noisy, environmental, eerie tracks the remake adds more epic ones which is ok but there are a lot of areas in the remake that are just silent. Why they removed the serenity track from the save rooms is just beyond me. It was supposed to sooth you and calm you down to build up the tension afterwards again. Something genius that the devs failed to see.

    What disappointed me the most about the remake was the island section which was the weakest part of the original that would have needed more drastic changes. The island is basically a military base with a little bit of ruins, underground and labs here and there. This miliary base setting never clicked with me and it always felt like the horror part is mostly over now and we now enter the like 90% action and 10% horror part of the game while before it was like 60-40. The remake did not change a lot here. It was only optimized while it needed a complete overhaul.

    At the end of the day you have to ask yourself what the remake really 100% improved and what you would miss playing the best version of the original which is the HD project by re4hd.com :

    - Changing weapons over d-pad
    - Picking up items faster and no despawn of items
    - Storage box for weapons and first-aid-sprays
    - balancing of the weapons
    - enemy designs (Dr. Salvador looks amazing!)
    - re-design of Ashley and her dynamic with Leon

    Meanwhile I miss following things that were in the original:

    - sound
    - art direction, lighting, style
    - good voice acting (Ada)
    - content
    - death and reload animations
    - lack of micro-transactions
    - no frustrating grab attacks but rewarding 100% staggers    … Expand

    This is the best Resident Evil ever made, and possibly the greatest survival horror game ever made. The gameplay is amazing.

    Absolutely amazing game. The controls are perfect, graphics are impressive and the gameplay is really fun. It's atmospheric and can be very intense. I couldn't have asked for a better remake. I have completed original RE4 probably 7 times.

    Masterpiece!!!!!!! Best remake ever!!!!
    New gameplay mechanics are insanely great.
    Beside Its loyality to the origin story,It has some minor changes but personally these changes made the story even better!

    um otimo remake, porem tem algumas parte que na minha infancia pareciam ser melhores, alem da historia nao ser tao cativante, gameplay excelente e uma otima sonoplastia.

    As a big fan of the original game, I am extremely pleased that this remake stays faithful to the theme and tone of the original while bringing modern improvements to gameplay and graphics.

    Alors apres avoir passé plus de 90h et un platine a la clé (platine le 01/06/23), RE4 Remake eh bien ça c'est du remake à la Capcom, c'est clairement le meilleur des 3 Remake qu'on est eu droit, après un RE3 Remake bien en deçà de ce qu'il aurait dû être

    Первая игра, которую прошёл на PS5. В предыдущие игры серии не играл со времён PS One. А тут оказалось достаточно интересно. Да, сюжет банален, но гемплей интересен. Однозначно рекомендую попробовать.

    I don't have much to say, otherwise I would spend the whole review emphasizing the beauty of all the elements of the game, the feeling of movement is satisfactory, the melee has been revisited very well and makes everything more adrenaline, as a lover of the genre, I also enjoyed the introduction of stealth, the weapons are many and all are fun to use, the replayability is the best of allI don't have much to say, otherwise I would spend the whole review emphasizing the beauty of all the elements of the game, the feeling of movement is satisfactory, the melee has been revisited very well and makes everything more adrenaline, as a lover of the genre, I also enjoyed the introduction of stealth, the weapons are many and all are fun to use, the replayability is the best of all Resident Evil, it was my first platinum and I hope it wins for the game of the year… Expand

    The story of the game is a mediocre story, the gameplay is very enjoyable and attractive, in terms of visuals, it is equal to Cross Gen 2023 games and has a stunning visual, the main boss fights are very similar to each other. The sound design of the game is wonderful, the enemies have a good variety and only one new type of enemy has been added to the remake compared to the original version.

    Resident Evil 4 Remake not only does right by its original source of inspiration, but it also sets a high bar for what modern day remakes can be. All components of the story have been finetuned into a more well-thought out package, and that’s before mentioning the game’s full use of today’s graphical prowess to deliver a more terrifying interpretation of rural Spain. The core gameplay also retains what made it so great back in the day, but with modern amenities such as a parrying system, quick-select for weapons and the ability to run. And despite the new improvements, the increased aggressiveness of the enemies ensures that the game never feels like a cakewalk. I don’t know who still needs to be convinced at this point, but Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece that I cannot recommend enough.
