The recent patch sent me back to playing Support in Smite. Thats all the perspective you need. Boycott this garbage until Blizzard decides to apply meaningful updates rather than nerf their game by half in the hopes of making the cash cow last longer.

It feels like the initial version of this game was not correctly playes as expected by the game designers, therefor they had to do these dramatic changes now. But practically for me after being 670 hours ingame, that nows feels like a massive funchpunch and my character is much weaker. I had max rolled items which are now min rolles, so I practically lost a lot of gold. Everything takes much longer now and you get less rewards. No Quality of Life features like new stash space have been added, it was really balancing downgrades only. Giving this patch without anything giving back (like add fun or rewards) - feels like a massive disappointment. Hence this rating and I hope it will be fixed. Expand

I typed why I think this game is awful in 3000 words but Metacritic does not allow such filth on their pages. So I will just play nice and give the game a zero as that is the highest it deserves.

How to nuke your playerbase in one patch... As a player who grinded 3 lvl 100 characters since release they were pretty well rounded now feel terrible. Season 1 will not make up for what we have lost with the malignant hearts. Non seasonal players will have nothing to make their characters feel any better.

Waste MORE time on an already unreasonable time sink? I don't think so. FF16, Starfield, BG3. are right around the corner. Blizz needed to make it WAY more fun to play to keep my time.

Developer continually makes changes that ruin the gaming experience for casual gamers. They expect people to sink all their time into the game and play solo. No real reward for playing with friends if anything it's more of a punishment.

Diablo is actually a paid beta for 90$
In a normal world we could imagine that the game is a mix between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 with the best feature of thes games but no.
The core game is broken but you don't see it until you are above level 50-60 then you start to see all it's default.
I congratulate the team behind cinematics, scenario, and open world design, but all the rest is a pure ****

tl;dr: A visually alluring but fundamentally flawed and a seriously lacking addition to the Diablo series. Slow gameplay, boring itemization, and ever lengthening time-sink requirements courtesy of misguided patches. Avoid wasting your money on this one.

Diablo IV, the highly anticipated addition to the iconic action RPG franchise, delivers an atmospheric and visually impressive world with all the familiar elements that fans have come to love. However, it is impossible to overlook the developers' evident disconnection from the playerbase, as they prioritize lengthening time sinks over enriching the gameplay experience. This approach results in a title that feels unnecessarily tedious and monotonous, ultimately detracting from the potential greatness of the Diablo series.

One of the most glaring issues with Diablo IV is the misguided notion that elongating the gameplay by making it take longer to complete things equates to a more challenging experience. Instead of offering intricately designed challenges and engaging encounters, the developers have resorted to inflating the game's content with time-consuming grinds, repetitive quests, and artificial difficulty spikes. This approach does not increase the game's difficulty in a meaningful way; it merely creates a sense of boredom and fatigue, distancing players from the once-thrilling Diablo universe.

Despite the visually stunning graphics and well-crafted environments, the gameplay loop often feels stagnant and uninspired. The lack of innovative mechanics or substantial improvements over its predecessors gives rise to the impression that the developers were content to rely on the series' established formula without taking the risk to evolve the gameplay to new heights. As a result, Diablo IV feels like (and truly is) a step backward, rather than the much-anticipated evolution fans had hoped for.

Repetitive, boring, no endgame, and if you are lucky enough to find a class and play style you like, they will nerf it into oblivion. The newest patch punishes group play, and severely nerfs experience. It is clear blizzard does not want players to reach level 100, because there is no content for higher levels.

The hell tides are okay, but infrequent and require a 40+ minute play session to open chest because of the low mob density. NM dungeons, which is where the game should be best, are slogs. Every class has resource and cooldown management issues that mean you spend most of your time waiting to do something. The foolish task inside the dungeon add nothing but annoyance. The NM dungeons should just require killing x% of the mobs in the dungeon and then the boss.

Builds are just not fun. You never get that power fantasy feeling you got in the other diablos. Maybe this will be a good game in two or three years, but it is not yet. I have a free battle pass and no plan to play season 1.

Diablo 4 makes you feel like you are barely keeping up with the difficulty curve and is very contingent on your skills and gear. If you do not put the proper point in the proper skill for your build using the gear you find, you'll find the monsters have become harder when you level. It's "match level" scaling can be an absolute hinderance to people who do not know what build to run or have not found the gear/legendary aspects to create the build.

The game has many problems from bugs and exploits to developers who actively work to lower the fun of the game. If one were to ask me if they should buy this game, I'd tell them wait 2-3 years (Diablo 3's timeframe from release to an acceptable game). I have nothing to tell these people as I have to be honest and I cannot just sit there and assume these developers will make any meaningful changes the community has been very vocal about. They have their vision to make money off of us and they aren't willing to change that in the slightest.

The reviews from game companies are clearly paid reviews or they played 1-25 and thought the game was gonna be that fun throughout. Levels 1-50 is where the game feels completed. Post 50 the game is a grindfest with constant nerfs to loot by the developers. The developers in this game have a vendetta against it's players that play it harder than anyone else because those players found the holes of content that was non-existent. The game is for now, a lost cause.

It pains me to say it, I am a huge fan of the Diablo series. Diablo 1 was great, Diablo 2 was it's peak, Diablo 3 was showing cracks in Triple A publishers armor and Diablo 4 is the full collapse of the series. Hacking and slashing through demons is great, but when the monster variety never changes and the dungeon boss variety never changes, you feel like the last dungeon is the same as the one you're doing now.

I put 14 days of gameplay into the game since release and I have not touched it since July 7th. They told us there was a big patch coming on July 18th, two days before the Season 1 launch. They nerfed everything. It was worse than I could've ever imagined. They nerfed all top end damage buckets and multiplicative damage types because they are worried top players will beat the content too fast yet again and realize their Season 1 mechanics are not good either and right back to a lowered playerbase they will go and nerfed all defensives by 50%! They made getting through the game more tedious than launch by nerfing EXP where you have no choice but do Nightmare Dungeons on your character to level, that will just kill you faster because your defenses are nerfed by 50% and if you can't tank them, you have to kill them faster or it leads to more dying - but that is nerfed by 50% on average with some builds seeing upwards of 75% nerfs to the overall damage.

I don't know what their goal is, but this ain't it. Save yourself money. Don't give Blizzard and Activision any more time or effort. The only way this company will change is if the same thing that happened to Diablo 3 happens to Diablo 4. Everyone gets fed up, 3,500 players are left playing then they make some meaningful changes to make the game fun. For now, stay away and just keep an eye on the Microsoft takeover to hopefully fix this abomination.

Having cut my teeth on Blizzard games, especially Diablo 2, I wanted to love the latest entry. I found some early excitement with my first legendary drop, but that early rush soon faded as I dove into the annoyingly granular loot affix system. Of course only a handful of them are really worthwhile. The problem is they are buried among so many useless ones that getting the correct rolls for a given build is a tedious slog. Affix changing costs get out of hand quickly, meaning if you don't get the right affix within the first few rolls the item becomes effectively bricked. Still, once you get used to it it has a certain charm. Aspects, obtainable from dungeon completions or from legendary items are also a chore. Some aspects like Aspect of the Umbral or Aspect of Exposed Flesh are stuffed into bloated item slots with so many other aspects that it is almost impossible to get a good roll. Uniques, basically the actual Legendaries of the game by the old Diablo item tiers, are vanishingly rare and have odd affix distributions that make them, on the whole, less useful than their counterparts in previous Diablo entries.

Then they released patch 1.1 which made all those little problems disappear by basically breaking everything else. See you don't have to balance a game where every class and build sucks equally. Ok maybe not equally Sorceress/Sorcerer got deleted. The patch took out all the joy in the game and replaced it with tedium. It is obvious they want to slow player progression through the content in order maximize player engagement in the Seasonal realm. This creates value for Activision shareholders, but pretty much hoses the actual player. If you have any sense at all just sit this one out for a few months, maybe they get their act together and you get the game used, at a discount, but if not you won't have to slog through a season full of bad decisions.

It’s a typical single player game marketed as a ‘light mmo’. The story and art design were much needed improvements but you can only polish a turd so much.

The Season One patch has a fatal flaw. It makes the game less fun to play. The only reason I play a game is for fun. If a developer deliberately makes a game less fun, they lose me as a customer. It also makes me believe they don’t understand their customer.

However, to my dismay, the recent update has left me disheartened and deeply dissatisfied with the state of the game. While previous patches had brought forth exciting content and improvements, this latest iteration seems to have missed the mark, leaving Diablo 4 in an unfavorable state.

Tthe update introduced several game-altering mechanics that have negatively impacted the overall gameplay. The changes to character abilities and skills feel arbitrary and out of touch with the core Diablo experience. Previously enjoyable and powerful builds have been rendered ineffective, forcing players to adopt unfamiliar and unappealing playstyles. This shift disrupts the sense of progression that made Diablo 4 enjoyable, leaving players feeling frustrated and disconnected from their characters.

As a result of these disappointing changes, the Diablo 4 community is now left feeling disheartened and disenchanted. Long-time players are finding it challenging to justify investing their time in a game that no longer meets their expectations. The lack of compelling content and the questionable design choices have made Diablo 4 an unfavorable choice compared to other similar games on the market.

In conclusion, Diablo 4's new patch is a missed opportunity and a significant letdown for fans of the series. The lack of meaningful content, questionable mechanics, technical issues, and overall decline in quality have all contributed to making the game unfavorable. As a devoted fan, I sincerely hope that the developers will take the community's feedback into account and work diligently to restore the magic that once made Diablo 4 an exceptional gaming experience. Until then, I'm afraid that my journey through the world of Sanctuary will remain on hold.

If you were on the fence…This is an ACTION RPG with slow paced action. It's a LOOT hunter with boring loot. This is an MMO with no social aspects. A dungeon crawler that feels more like a game of fetch the stones and put them on the pedestals.

A Major Disappointment - Latest Diablo 4 Patch

As a longtime fan of the Diablo franchise, it genuinely pains me to have to write such a review, but the latest patch for Diablo 4 has left me with no other choice. Blizzard has historically managed to meet or even surpass expectations with their continuous updates, however, this time around, the implementation feels more like a misstep than an upgrade.

For starters, the new balancing adjustments made to the classes seem significantly out of sync. While it's understood that a certain level of class balancing is necessary, the degree of these changes has disrupted the strategic gameplay. Now, my Sorcerer feels less like the master of the elements and more like a wand-waving wizard from a children's book.

While the Diablo franchise has always been known for its resilience and potential to bounce back, this latest update has undeniably damaged the game's reputation. It is my sincerest hope that Blizzard takes the critical feedback from its dedicated player base seriously and swiftly acts to rectify the current state of Diablo 4.

In its current state, I cannot in good conscience recommend Diablo 4 to any prospective gamers, especially those who cherished the previous entries. This update does not honor the legacy of the Diablo franchise, nor does it offer the gaming experience we have come to expect from Blizzard. Until we see substantial improvements, my advice would be to keep your distance from this current iteration.

They already have your money, you'll not get that back. Very close to $100 wasted to BETA TEST, as this game is obviously nowhere near complete, judging from all the nerfs that they roll out weekly. Microtransactions are nowhere near MICRO. The average skin will set you back about $30 to $40 USD, AND it's a very slightly tweeked, perhaps color slightly altered version of a skin you can get absolutely free in the game. Patch ruined the game. Really enjoyed it while it lasted. It’s like blizzard rolled out this patch to spite its user-base. The nerfs didn’t even satisfy the goals of the developers to reduce need for things like crit & vulnerable damage. I understand the game needed to provide a bit more of a challenge, but they could have been much more reasonable. For those reasons, I’m out…

After losing interest in my character after the campaign it is hard to have any motivation in leveling the new character with the memory in the back of my head that there is no end game. There is no end goal. With no sense of progression.

This gives me no interest to level up another character just knowing that there is nothing to keep me interested, combined with the lackluster sense of progression and itemization.

Before 1.1 patch the best I could say about the game is it was playable. Had fun up to about level 80, then the endgame grind kicked in and the loot loop was so boring I gave up. Figured this was the game launch which is notoriously a hard thing for Blizz to get right and the Season 1 patch would address at least some of the players concerns and make the game more fun.

TBH I put too much faith in "you think you do, but you don't" "Don't you guys own phones" modern Blizz. They have continued to sacrifice player fun for profit without realizing the truth that all of the good will for the company was from when they made games that were fun to play. I fell in to this nostalgia trap. Loved D1 bought it the week it came out. Loved D2 drove 200 miles to get a copy on launch day. More or less enjoyed D3, launch was terrible but it at least felt like they were addressing players issues with the game, love the current seasons.

Basically the way they decided to "fix" their lack of fun endgame content was simply to make it harder to get there in the first place.
I have seen a lot of people trying to justify the massive nerf to all classes by pointing out that the S1 mechanic will make up for that. . . I would be inclined to agree if this didn't effect the Eternal realm. Seasonal content should be optional not mandatory.

The most recent patch (season 1 hasn't even started yet) completely halted player progression and gutted build diversity. There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
