    End-game balance was mediocre at best, then the devs made it abysmal. It made me feel bad that my money and progress is now a waste. All for an effort to make the top 0.01% people play more, but of course the rest of us will feel bad to spend another thousand hour to maybe get somewhere. Lack of meaningful reward is just lazy game design.

Why would you let tons of players progress a character and spend hundreds of hours playing just to nerf their characters and make them weaker…basically making it so all the effort they put in was meaningless. So many aspects in this game are unbalanced im hoping good changes come but not sure I have to the desire yo continue after the latest patch. Sorcs really suck at the moment and you can’t really play a variety of builds if you want to be good. Paragon system is pretty horrible as well and could have been done way better.… Expand

What started as a promising revival to a struggling Blizzard, rapidly becomes a vapid grindfest with poor balance, boring loot, copy and pasted content, head-scratching design decisions that should have been obvious (e.g. vulnerable being its own damage bucket and becoming mandatory for all classes as a result). There are 120 dungeons, but those dungeonsDiablo 4 is a huge disappointment. There are 120 dungeons, but those dungeons come from half a dozen tilemaps and repeat the same half dozen bosses meaning there are really only 6 or so dungeons. Leveling takes absolute years, which would be okay if the game was fun or loot exciting, but I had the ancestrals I wanted more or less at level 72, meaning there was nothing to search for besides so called "uber uniques" which are mostly stat sticks which hardly change the game the way they were advertised. The nightmare sigil system suffers from the same terrible inventory management as the gems. Towns are beautiful but clunky, mounts are clunky and unreliable, abilities feel great, but you don't change your play pattern at all after level 30 or so, meaning you are pushing the same 5 buttons in the same order for hundreds of hours if you want to hit max level, and there is nothing you can even hope might drop along the way. World bosses are paper thin at high levels, and also boring as a result. A disaster of an ARPG and a nail in the coffin for this dying, once-hero of the game world.… Expand

    As a sorcerer, this new patch made me stay away and give this game a rest. Im no longer interested with what theyre doing to the game. It is no longer fun. I dont have time to grind. My damage has been low let alone my defensives could barely keep my 2 legs up. This is a massive screw up!

The entire update around 7/18 was simply to destroy all the different areas that allows a player to have fun and enjoy their time. However with not learning from your fanbase on what they desire and expect in previous installments and bringing them here is one thing but then to nerf damage reduction to a point of being irrelevant and cutting damage output almost in half while buffing NPCs is a complete joke.     Game is not fun most builds are not viable. Many features have been disabled including no set items or runes and items are not tradeable. Storyline quests are bugged can’t complete several quest lines. Game feels like a chore to play

    Diablo4 was the most anticipated game of my adult gaming life. I spent hundreds of hours in D2 and D3; bought D2R and had a blast. D4 campaign and early game were awesome. A few bugs but overall the gameplay was crisp, great story, amazing CGI, and levelling and looting felt great. The end game was a bit boring but 'hey for a launch it was pretty good'. Then came the nerfs. Fixing aDiablo4 was the most anticipated game of my adult gaming life. I spent hundreds of hours in D2 and D3; bought D2R and had a blast. D4 campaign and early game were awesome. A few bugs but overall the gameplay was crisp, great story, amazing CGI, and levelling and looting felt great. The end game was a bit boring but 'hey for a launch it was pretty good'. Then came the nerfs. Fixing a bug where you could a billion damage is a logical fix, but nerfing every skill into the ground because some level 100 builds could solo the final boss... isn't that the point of a level 100 build? You should be able to faceroll everything at that point with optimal gear. Instead they destroyed most builds, and made sorc and barb almost unplayable. The game is now 3-5 seconds of feeling good slaying stuff and 7-10 seconds of running around waiting on the next 3-5 second burst of damage. Its awful. Loot feels crappy; you can't min/max your build because gold is a resource and your stash space is limited so it really hinders build diversity. There's no 're-roll' function other than millions in gold and 15-20 minutes of manually unspecing a paragon board. The agrivating part is that they have the feedback now. Reddit and Blizzrd forums have been complaining of the same issues, the same QoL features that are in other games (heck they're in D3 currently!). Instead of making players want to log in more because its fun, they took all the fun out, kept the same mediocre loot and made demons stronger while making characters weaker. The review bombs will continue until the nerfs are reverted. Hope this makes your shareholders happy Microsoft!… Expand

    Zero – disappointed, sad that this is how I feel about the current state of D4, a highly anticipated game for myself. The "0" represents my excitement and outlook for the game after 1.1.0a patch, my lack of confidence in the team surrounding D4 at the moment. The patch was SO far removed and out of touch in nearly every way.. but it also sounds like the team is prioritizing time toZero – disappointed, sad that this is how I feel about the current state of D4, a highly anticipated game for myself. The "0" represents my excitement and outlook for the game after 1.1.0a patch, my lack of confidence in the team surrounding D4 at the moment.     Mid-review, I decided to give a score of "1" because I DID enjoy the game and believe the team is listening/communicative.     Unfortunately once you clear the main campaign it starts falling apart. The poor coding shows itself when the difficulty starts raising, not that the game really gets that hard until you start pushing nightmare dungeons but you notice bad hit detection and things like that.     The main problem with the game as I see it and the thing that killed my enjoyment of the game is that the developers dont seem to have any understanding of the player experience or what the changes they are making will mean for it. They say they want to support a wide build variety but nerf the good builds that the top 1% of players are using doing the pinnacle content of the game while ignoring completely bugged out builds or builds that are pathetic like fire sorc or summoner druid.

    They dont seem to know that logging in to find your character is now much more squishy and much less powerful when you are pushing end game content isnt something players want to experience and would turn them off.

    If this is the level of thinking the developers or their bosses are operating on for D4 it will not have a successful life cycle as the game it was sold to be. For now I am choosing to abstain from the season and don't know if I will return to eternal realm or anything else blizzard has to offer. I will definitely never spend money on a blizzard title again, they burned me too good on this one. I hated D3, D2 was a huge part of my adolescence something I cherish greatly to this day. I know no one who worked on D2 is still working for blizzard but its a shame they have no one there with any pull who understands what made D2 so incredible. It wasnt a perfect game by any means which is what makes D4 so frustrating, there was a lot of room for updates and improvements to D2 which the D4 team could have taken and run with.

    I am heartened to see the response from the community because this kind of corporate meddling for the sake of greed, this constant extraction from everything good in our lives and world for the sake of profit leaves the whole word in a rotten state. Power to the people.    … Expand

    -Dev Team wont fix problems in the game because season 1 was shipped, then proceeded to nerf every single class as well as exp. gained

    -Scaling levels with enemies - Seems like a bad idea but not that bad when you hit end game as content becomes static for NM dungeons and other events
    -Simplicity- Builds look cookie cutter and they are but the paragon board post 50 adds a decent amount of complexity to builds

    Overall: Give this game 2 years and it might be good. In its current state, it is only fun for the campaign and falls off hard after. theory crafting builds is not fun due to itemization and lack of balancing from the devs.
    If you like games like diablo 4, I would recommend Path of Exile, Last Epoch, Grim Dawn, Torch Light 2, or even the previous diablo games over d4. This game needs a lot more Quality of Life, more content, and more classes    … Expand

    There is a lack of content to enjoy than games under 10 dollars that are over 10 years old.

    I had my doubts and really wish I didn’t pay the $134 Canadian for a second grade product. The collectors addition is a money grab by the developers it does not come with the game it’s sold separately and it’s too expensive.

It's also a live service (online only/aka subscription) which limits playability and the provider (Blizzard) has not yet added any quality content. Crashes regularly on console. If a streaming service constantly crashes and has no interesting content you cancel the subscription.

    They have nerfed levelling so now it’s even harder to do alts and grind up, so I can’t even be arsed to switch.

    The different ways to grind are also pretty boring, repetitive with uninteresting dungeons and tree of whispers.

    Finally why are Elites harder and more fun to kill than the end of dungeon boss fight where they stand there like a drugged sheep getting hit, where’s the boss mechanics Blizzard?????

Instead of adding the endgame content with season-1 they nerfed all the classes and items while buffing all the enemies. They could have left the game the way it was a week ago and just done some bug fixes and released season 1 but nope they literally nuked their own game. Spend your money elsewhere.

    Latest patch destroyed the game, just to funnel people in front of the battlepass and use the malignant hearts. They effectively ruined all the characters that everyone just spent the last 2 months working on. Just to force you to make a seasonal char and buy battlepass

    Leveling: Boring and long (I don't care about story in my demon clicking game).

    Endgame: Once you finish the story and hit 50, when you have World III and higher, there's really nothing to do:

    Dungeons are extremely samey; every one of them pulls 2 or 3 events out of a pool of about 6 options, so it's not varied at all. You need special keys to play nightmare (harder) dungeons and those really only drop...in nightmare dungeons. But the ones that drop are your current level or slightly higher, so you have to take them back to a city, salvage them, and craft an actually good key.

    As an aside, the game doesn't tell you about crafting higher dungeon keys until you clear a difficulty 4 dungeon, which was frustrating when first playing, because the first key drop in a nightmare dungeon of difficulty 1, was a key for a difficulty 2 dungeon, so it seemed like progressing to actually challenging higher dungeons was going to take forever, when in reality, as mentioned above, you craft the high keys; it just felt bad to be drip fed vital info like that.

    Your other "endgame" options are: grind the same 5 Whispers wherever they spawn so you can get a box of crap from the Tree of Whispers once in a while, or only be allowed to play at scheduled times for the Helltides.

    The world bosses I've tried were actually very fun fights but the drops were not worth the time.

    Itemization:, it also manages to be bland. Dropped items have power levels that vary *wildly*, I was getting World I quality gear in World IV level 25 hard dungeons, absolute downgrades. Gems are utterly pointless because they give extremely small benefits to extremely specific circumstances.

    There's way too many random rolls on every piece of gear so 99% of the time, if the drop is even a higher ilevel than your current slot, it will be garbage because more than 1 option is bad (you can reroll one stat on an item like in D3).

    Overpower and Lucky Hit stats are unbelievably badly design.

    Some Legendary effects are impossibly rare and can be very good for some builds, but it's not like you can trade with anyone who found an item with it and doesn't want it, so good luck upgrading the slot with that trait unless you get extremely extremely lucky.

    You can't preview items on the ground so you have to pick up and look at every. Single. Drop. To decide if it's worth keeping, and enjoy that since half your inventory is taken up by gems. There's a "consumable" tab for potions but also your non-stacking dungeon keys go in there so you have to choose carrying potions or carrying keys, or be willing to dump keys on the ground if you find one you actually want to keep. There's no damn loot filter, on an ARPG that came out in 2023 and prides itself on the amount of stuff that drops, that's idiotic and shows a completely disregard for the player's enjoyment or time.

    Monsters: Bland. There's a few gems, like ones that charge you and knock you over, and being able to actually dodge hits by watching animations is actually fun, but the rest are boring and don't have the "blow up huge mobs" feel of 2 and 3. Depending on your gear bosses are either damage sponges that take so long you're bored with the fight by the time it's over, or with good gear, as inconsequential as any given normal mob.

    Unless of course it's a normal mob with Extra Health, an absolutely terrible idea because it doesn't make things *harder* or more fun, it makes them take an insanely longer time to kill and it's always worth just leaving the area when they're left and finding something else to kill. The Dodge mechanic (press space to jump towards the cursor) is useful and can make combat fun, but it seems like every boss is designed around saving it and using it for one specific attack that will absolutely blow you up if it connects.

    I keep seeing reviews calling this a new Diablo 2. I don't think these reviewers have played D2 recently if at all. There is no comparison, stop it with the "but its grimdark" crap, D2's graphics popped, D4's graphics    … Expand

    I dont really understand how the safest place for the soul stone stone would be with some girl missing an arm, I loved how she left a letter to that guy, but the guy who just saved the world is not in consideration of keeping it safe. Who wrote this story? Are you guys okay? Where is the connection to the lore and original theme? Its like a child got a go at writing a diablo lore game. Everything seems to be off and once you hit 50, there is nothing to do.
    The worst for a player like me is that you have an online community, but there is no way to connect to anyone. Its a small open world that feels repetitive and boring, while you have no real way to connect with others.
    Dont waste your money on this. I probably spent 5k hours in D1-2 but here I am done with 10h.
    Was waiting for the season to drop and what happened is just beyond this comment.

    all the things are planing to , looking for, will be, very soon that is hopeless. such a trash talk in the stream. Nerf can be done in one or two days and hotfix and update buffing players are hard to do so? GG

    Look, the game was pretty ok at first. Playing solo felt fine up through the campaign. It already had issues though as I felt less desire to play solo after that point and only really found myself playing the “endgame” (not a helluva lot of content there tbh) with my friends. And then they pulled an oppenheimer and dropped a nuke on their own game. That’s why I’m here, and why everyoneLook, the game was pretty ok at first. Playing solo felt fine up through the campaign. Because they basically took their game and nerfed the entire thing. Somehow as of their patch 7/18/2023 they managed to just nerf 90% of the fun out of the game. They crushed basically every build, put a single character that was already 6 feet under from nerfs down to 106 feet under, and made basically everything take 3x as long to progress and feel 3x as a hard as it used to be. That’s so far beyond unacceptable and is a direct INSULT to the consumers who bought in to play the game. They don’t seem particularly concerned about bringing most of their nerfs back in line with something that respects their players, and anything they’ve promised to do seems like it’s a good 3-6 months away at minimum. Maybe it’ll be decent to play around Christmas, so if you’re reading this around then find some more fresh reviews than mine but holy hells is it bad here in July. If you excuse me I’ll go play exoprimal now because with as little content as that game currently has I’m having more fun their by a factor of 10 after Blizzards latest fiasco.… Expand

    There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

    The visuals are probably what excited me the most. The way the game looks and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm playing the old Diablo again. On steroids and on a quadruple screen TV, but the feeling is still there. [Issue#328]
