I don't usually write reviews, but this game needs some defending. It's not a 10/10, but it's definitely not a 2/10 either. But let's get one thing out of the way, the game was incredibly over-hyped, without question.

The story is pretty forgettable and the PVP is extremely unbalanced, but if you're like me and like a pretty big world to run around with your friends and explore in for a few hours a week, then that's where this game shines. PvE is very balanced, and if anyone says it isn't it's because they're not being careful enough in battles, and they're getting themselves killed. Everyone that I've seen play that has died a lot is because they think they're invincible and try to punch everything to death.

The shooting feels great, especially the pulse rifle, which is my personal favorite. I use a sniper too since a Warlock shouldn't exactly be on the front lines very often, and it feels balanced because a headshot is almost always a one hit kill, and a body shot takes three to four on an evenly levelled enemy. I used the shotgun for the first couple levels, and it packs quite a punch, though for my class it was terrible because it put me too much in harm's way, shotguns are more suited to Titans.

The story is repetitive, but you only really feel it if you try to marathon the whole game in a night, which is very possible. If you stick to a mission or three a day, then by the next time you play it'll feel much less repetitive. An hour a day is the sweet spot for this game, two if you have friends to play with.

Just don't marathon it, you will get burned out and you will find it repetitive.

P.S. The Sparrow is incredibly fun to drive, I've spent a good amount of time just riding around and jumping off makeshift ramps.

TL;DR Play in short bursts with friends, and don't expect a life changing story.

Destiny definitely is eye catching and the gameplay elements such as movement, abilities, weapons, shooting said weapons is definitely close to, if not perfect. Where the game seems to fall short for many, including me, is the story and how you are pushed through it with a lot of repetition. And by repetition I don't mean the shooting things, that I expect and enjoy immensely but more how its always about defending a spot while your Ghost does something. Or the bosses not really having any puzzles to them, their really just big bullet sponges that you need to shoot longer.

And the story is just not that poignant... I liked it and I know its barely just chapter one (Perhaps) and there's tons more to come but I never really felt my character mattered much. If not me, someone else could do all that and we'd be all safe anyways. I need more heroics!

Finally, the game IS damn fun to play if you're a fan of story/shooters and even though some complain about the 'retracing your steps' a lot, I actually quite enjoy it. I think its poetic justice that I can come back to Old Russia and annihilate the Fallen that killed me so many times while at low levels. AND I get to help friends or lowboys while being all badass looking.

The reality is a lot of people are disillusioned by this game due to the hype and their unrealistic expectations of modern video games. This is not the fault of Bungie, who have produced an outstanding gaming experience that somehow manages to seamlessly merge meaningful cooperative play with an engrossing and original sci-fi universe.

If you are approaching this game expecting a Mass Effect style single player campaign then you will be disappointed. Instead what you will find is an incredibly detailed action sci-fi framework that provides a very promising future for expansion and longevity. It is unfair to expect Bungie to drop all their tricks on the initial release, they must save something in reserve to release over time - and personally I cannot wait.

The mechanics are peerless, and the loot-dropping grind gameplay is incredibly addictive. Bringing down a boss in a strike mission truly feels like a group effort. The 'bullet-sponge' nature of the bosses isn't for everyone but I challenge you to not feel awesome when you and your new comrades finally conquer one.

The bastard child of Borderlands, Halo and Mass Effect (2 and 3). Keep it coming Bungie, I can't wait to see what you do next.

The multiplayer portion is also great fun (though I'm not a huge PVP style player, so it can also be frustrating). I find the game pretty fun by myself, and even more so when playing with others. A good mixture of single player, PVE and PVP make for a game that can be fun for many players. Everyone has their playing styles however so this game can be more fun for some than others.

    Cons:
Like most shooters, most MMOs, and most games you play in general, this game does become repetitive. The general nature of this game being a mixture of FPS and MMO makes it feel even more so. The story isn't a focus while playing, so you don't get drawn into it making the game feel more like a grind.

Overall, I've enjoyed the game quite a bit. I didn't expect much of a story after playing the beta, so I knew what I was getting into. If they made the story draw you in (or even made the "quests" more a part of the story), this game would be great. The lack of story and the feel of grinding after a few hours dulls the experience.

But I found the game to be addicting to the point were I would only stop if my body told me too. It might be because I was playing with friends all the time so we wanted to get to show off. But that also brings me to another point. This game was made to play with friends. If you are going to be a loner, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! You will be bored within the first two weeks. This is an FPS, RPG game NOT AN MMO. We all know this so don't call it an MMO.
Campaign: So the campaign is very short, about 8-10 hours if you play multiplayer and then go on to missions. It is much of a boring campaign and a boring story, no cliff hangers or nothing to look to but the end. When you beat the game all you get is a gun..... That is it. It is a 5/10 very boring and grindy.
Multiplayer: So this is what this game was made for in my opinion. Very fast paced multiplayer if playing on the smaller maps. Can be really fuging fun if you going HAM on noobs, but if not, it is a very bad time in your life. People who play this game are very stupid and do not get how to play the gamemode or how important flags are. They are always bad teammates on your team when you play solo. But one thing that is cool that all the gear you get in Campaign goes to multiplayer. It is balanced so you won't get pooped on in that way. There is a game mode for that. Like a regular FPS you got a fasted paced game with the add-ons of super's which are like you special killstreak for the class you play. These add a lot of fun to the game but they are very annoying when you get spammed with them. The Hunter class is the best by far in PVP which they need to fix.
So in all this game is a 8/10 - 4/5 for me. As a fan of cod and of Halo 2 - Halo:Reach this game is fun and addicting for those Diablo players and CoD players. Halo fans will hop on the train too with Bungi making a game and not 343 studios. (Halo 4 sucked) So if you liked fasted paced games, and games were you put in the time you get the bigger dime ;) then you will like this game. Since so much is in the game it is just better if you play it for a week straight and if you do not like it by the end then just return the damn thing and move on with life. :D

The fact that users have left reviews at 0 saying "It was okay." is pretty pathetic. The game deserves an honest rating and in complete honesty, can only be determined by personal preference.

In short, lot of grinding involved, story is bland, fun multiplayer, very enjoyable with friends.
A lot can be expected from a sequel to Destiny, and will in future become one of the best selling game series yet.

Al those fast low rated critic reviews are based on the story missions and a couple of crucible games, but there is NO WAY they could have ever played every class and subclass until level 30 with all light gear and stuff, let alone playing the raids.

I think Destiny became a victim of the hype, everyone comparing it to a World of Warcraft type of FPS, naming it an MMO, and even though I would have loved it if that would be the case, Bungie named it an open world shooter, and that’s what it is. A wonderful world to explore. A game with a beautiful soundtrack and visuals. It feels so good to shoot in this game, I can’t compare it to any other FPS I have ever played.

The available content in this game is enough to keep you busy for long time… I often wonder what do to next. Shall I do another mission on level 20 of 24, or do I want to do another strike. Maybe a crucible match.. control? Clash? Will I be doing these stuff as a Hunter, Warlock or Titan, will I be trying another subclass etc etc etc.. so much to do and try, I’ll won’t be playing another game anytime soon.

Only downside for me is the “invisible walls” this game has, for example; There are places you can’t jump on, even though you know you could easily made a jump to it, the invisible wall won’t let you do it.
Still… If I had to pick one word for this game it would be “crisp”.

Overall, this game is a lot of fun, whether you'll be playing it co-op with your friends or as a lone wolf.

Destiny is a new type game. It is not right to call it an MMO or an FPS and comparing it in this way is wrong. From my play with it so far (just coming up to level 15) it feels like an FPS with extra widgets and applications added that draw inspiration from MMO style games. I also don't think you will find this much content available in the vast majority of FPS titles.

Personally, I think its a fantastic achievement, but lets go into more detail.

    Presentation
Nobody can claim that this isn't a beautiful game. The polish, from the environments to the finer details on the armour is magnificent and a sight to behold. There are some minor issues (different armour/weapons can bug on cutscenes) but otherwise the visuals are stunning

    Gameplay
This is where Destiny shines. It was to be expected from Bungie but every element of the gameplay is slick and engrossing. The controls are logical, animations are smooth and you feel in control of everything you do (getting on your vehicle is smooth as butter). There is a good variety of weapons (for an FPS game) and grenades/supercharge powers add tactical elements to combat. While there isn't anything new to the formula here, everything works perfectly and playing through Destiny has never felt like a chore.

    Story
Not the strongest point of Destiny. The story is pretty generic but interesting enough to keep you involved. It is let down ultimately by stale story missions, where they do become a bit repetitive after a while. It was also an odd choice to put so much of the story in "Grimoire cards" making them less accessible.

    Raids/Strikes/Exploring
On top of the 15 hour or so campaign there is also exploring the planet. This is interesting to an extent (high level bosses, loot) but it is mostly the same areas as the story mission. Raids and Strikes however are extremely fun. 3-6 teams must beat large hordes of enemies and difficult boss battle. Are they bullet sponges? Yes, but the difficulty is high enough to make it engaging and interesting.

    Difficulty
I think this is often overlooked when looking at this game. I have never felt overly comfortable at any point while playing the game. And I have died a lot during the strike/raid missions. This keeps it exciting and keeps you on your toes throughout playing the game

    Multiplayer
There are two parts to this. Firstly, you can play in fireteams doing any mission in the game, during any raid or just exploring. Destiny is immensely fun with a friend. Better still, if you have a higher level friend join, the enemies are made that bit tougher so not to overwhelm you but not to make it too easy for your friend

Secondly, the PvP. The crucible is a bit bare bones at the moment, and there are some balancing issues. Thus it is fun. So so fun. Because all the gameplay mechanics are so highly polished you can jump right in and have a ball. Does need to be fleshed out a bit more though.

    Other
    -The voice acting isn't perfect
-In my opinion, there is no Grind. Grinding implies effort and boredom. I have not felt this while playing this game
    -Overhyped

    Verdict
This is only the beginning of the Destiny journey. There is already a massive amount to do in the game, not to mention endless PvP and, if you don't focus too much on the few minor issues, you can have an incredible amount of fun. Ludicrous amounts of fun. And, ultimately, isn't that what we play video games for?

Was this game over-hyped? Maybe a bit. But that doesn't stop it from being any more or less worth playing. From launch the primary modes were "Run & Gun" and "Run & Gun PVP", but now we're seeing more raids, challenges, and things we couldn't have expected from day one. The beautiful worlds and challenging game play are the saving grace of this great title.

    Pros:
    1. Gorgeous game! Let's all be honest here. Destiny is a gorgeous looking game.
    2. I personally enjoy PvE more than PvP so a Pro for someone like me is how well the PvE aspects work. Three's company comes to mind. 3 works well for story, patrol, or strike fireteams. 3. First Person view just feels comfortable and right. Who hasn't enjoyed a game or two of CoD-like games? FPSes are fun and feel immersive so Destiny's FPS aspect felt comfortable right out the door.
    4. No expense spared with voice talent (probably the reason for a good half of the cost of making this game even - lol). The voices are recognizable actors/actresses from shows/movies you've seen before. It's pretty cool. I happen to be one of those that also realize Peter Dinklage's voice role is that of a robot so I don't expect the "Wheatley" type character out of my ghost. I expect it to be drone-like. It's how he was directed so people should leave it alone.
    5. Character outfits/armor diversity is strong. From the moment I started, I felt generally pleased with how utilitarian my character looked. In time - as you level up, the armor gets better textures and designs. Each class also has its own unique set of diverse armor/item looks.

    Cons:
    1. Patrol missions are not as diverse as one would hope when bounties are matched with patrol mission based bounties and you are forced to do the same things over and over again. It's forgivable since the outcome of completing a bounty is worth it still but it would be nice if the missions were more exciting, diverse, or even had more meaning. This is not a game breaker by any means though. Still, I would consider it the most "grindy" part of the game.
    2. No auction/trading system. This is also not a game breaker to me since I want to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt for a while to see how this plays out. The problem is that part of the fun of loot is that you can sell it for profit in a game usually. That idea also has its own flaws though so I want to see how this concept turns out. Either way, you get a lot of armor and weapons and parts/pieces from the worlds that you can't sell/trade.
    3. No non-friend social features like chat. This one is a no brainer really. I'm not sure why a chat feature wasn't implemented in The Tower AND out on Patrols or Story Missions where you can come across other players. Anything would be better than nothing and there is currently nothing. Try on proximity chat, text chat to nearby players, etc. This is a very basic part of any multiplayer game like this - where social areas are created but basic social tools are missing.
    3. Enemy diversity is lacking a bit. I have heard from others on this subject saying enemies are the same old re-used creatures scattered around the planets. This is true for the story arc that involves fallen and hive. Once you get to Mars, the enemy you fight changes. I won't say how but it does so that is good but I am listing this as a con since I do feel the enemy diversity could be more broad in general as well.
    -----------------
Overall, I am having a blast with this game and I really hope Bungie doesn't give up on it after such poor reviews all-around. The internet is an unforgiving place though and the world lives around/on/in the internet so I guess this is the direction the human species is heading. Bungie has a long-term plan for this game and it will include many expansions/updates that will broaden its boundaries so let's hope the future turns the haters into lovers of the game - for my sake.

The nicest way of putting this is "they left plenty of room for improvement." "Destiny" has the makings of something great, but all of the greatness has not been made yet, and Bungie should listen attentively to the more reasonable negative player feedback that they've received. That said, I'm continuing to enjoy the game, and think that its graphical fidelity, fun gameplay style, and overall gorgeous presentation makes it well worth playing.

    What's good:
-Great overall feel for an FPS.
    -Cool weapons and armor.
    -Space magic.
    -Beautiful Environments.
    -Great voice cast.
    -Simple but consuming leveling system.
    -More space magic.
    -Dinklage

    What's bad:
-Poorly explained universe: This game needed a codex like Mass Effect, which leads me to...
-Grimoire Cards: Dear Bungie, don't make me use a web browser to look at the cards that somewhat explain the universe. That is all.
-Remember that great voice cast? Now imagine a game where they barely say anything...except for Dinklage.
-A story that is most definitely about something, I think. Maybe? It wasn't so great.
    -Total lack of character development.
    -Limited Loot.
    -Level cap too low.

Even with the list of gripes above (which are by no means the extent of them), I still like "Destiny" a lot. Bungie has created a breathtaking game world, and it seems like the sort of world that's designed to be expanded, and so I think there's a pretty good chance that the "Destiny" universe will be expanded to include more planets and (hopefully better) stories in the future. It's a very fun experience overall, and while it didn't quite live up to all the hype, its strengths outweigh its weaknesses by far.

Where the game shines is in all the elements it takes from MMOs. A loot system that is part chance and part effort, dungeon runs with pick up groups and fast PVP that's either objective based or (team) deathmatch.

The technical side is also flawless. Graphics, sound and music are out of this world and the networking seems solid, I at least didn't get disconnected even once. The action is also very well designed with the guns and special abilities having just the right feel to it.

All in all I would rate Destiny 7.5, but since that's not possible here and since I'm gonna give it some props for the potential it shows for future expansion I'm gonna round up to 8.

Haven't played much of it but gotta say it's similar to Halo just in a different way. Even though Destiny didn't get the praise it deserves, still you should keep your eyes on the game for a bit as expansion packs will be out later this year and could offer new experiences we haven't seen before.

Destiny has had a hard time with critics, and this is largely down to marketing and over-hyping of the game.

I admit I was disappointing after playing for a few hours. Once I had been to the tower a couple of times, done a few missions on earth and the moon and dabbled in pvp it became clear that destiny was an amazing, beautiful fluid game but nowhere near as expansive or grand as advertised and certainly not what I would call an mmo. However once I had set my initial expectations aside and started appreciating destiny for what it currently is I began to love it. The gun play mechanics are flawless and fluid, the graphics are gorgeous and the strikes are intense and at times heart-pounding, a couple times I cheered out loud after completing a difficult strike run with a pug group. Like I mentioned before though destiny has not lived up to it's full potential(as advertised), the story is lacking and for me the biggest downside, but after giving the game time it seems like the emptiness might be intentional on Bungies part. Clearly this is a world that is meant to be filled and will be by future updates and I plan on sticking with the game. At the moment I am having a great time mixing it up with pvp and pve and gearing up to take on that future content and hope Bungie really unlock the great potential this game has.

This game is very fun, albeit the missions are pretty repetitive. As many people have stated, the story is a bit short but many other features have made up for this. I'll keep this short, here's a list of the 5 best things that make the game so great.

    1. Tons of loot
    2. A good balance of PvE and PvP
    3. Lots of end game content
    4. World events
    5. Graphically, it's amazing

Campaign - Gameplay and Controls are solid. Option to increase challenge is nice.

These two alone is enough for a 6.5 to 7 rating. If it stopped here, it's only fault would be a lack of innovation.

    What needs improvement:
MMO Element - This feels unfinished. The Tower feels barebones and for the amount of loading time it takes to get there for as little as you have to do while you're there, it just doesn't feel seamless enough. And honestly, I would like the option to enter planet mission privately.
Inventory / Loot / Skill System - An interesting start. I can't help comparing to Borderlands or even Diablo, but otherwise I wonder about the real necessity for interchangeable inventory without a more in-depth statistic system to be effected by the inventory you equip. The skills are nice to click on to enable when you level.. but the amount of choice is slim at best. There needs to be more here and the potential is there.

    CONS:
LOADING TIME!! - This is next gen. That's supposed to mean something, yet we are developing increasingly graphically demanding games on consoles that are not coming with solid state drives as stock and with an average user bandwidth of what seems like less than 1MBPS. The loading times are necessary but on the PC, it can and should be better.
CUSTOMIZATION / OPTIONS - I want to be able to play a private campaign. I want to be able to skip cut-scenes!! That is a must! I want more in-depth player armor and ship customization (colors/emblems) This is key stuff for a game that promises big things!

People who rate this game under a 6 are simply bitter about the hype or shouldn't be playing FPS. There is a solid base game that carries over key Halo elements that deserve a 6 to a 7 alone if it didn't innovate beyond that. This is a damn good game! Not yet a great game but just because they didn't get there, don't poop the bed for everyone else.

Destiny is a really good edition to an already acclaimed lineup of games from Bungie. The shooting mechanics could not get any better and are some of the best that I have ever played. The only downfall that I see with Destiny is the story. The story doesn't really suck you in at all and it's a light touch overall. Overlooking that, it's a great game to play with your friends.

The graphics are incredible and smooth. The playability feels great. The story, meh OK so you have me there. The difficulty is awesome because it makes you work for what you get. The character customization leaves something to be desired but since you only look at your toon while in tower, I could care less. I like the fact that there is no chat. No need to worry about people linking their abilities followed/preceded by "anal". No trolling, spamming none of that nonsense. One thing I will say that is frustrating beyond all description is how blues and purples decode to greens. If you want those items to be rare, fine but manage that by the drop rate. The PvP seems pretty unbalanced but IMO, PvP in an MMO-ish game is pointless. I know some people love it but it's not my thing.

    Now for the rant...

I can't see why there is so much hatred for this game. Oh wait, I remember, all the kiddos that are used to the instant gratification provided by worthless excuses for video games like WoW. I'm so sorry Bungie won't give everyone purple gear on their first run. I guess it's because you got a trophy for riding the pine in little league. This game is difficult, which makes it enjoyable for true gamers.

No doubt you will have to pay for these expansions but I think that they will add more to the "RPG" elements and add to the story in its self. I pray (like everyone else) that some of these story expansions will be free, if not, cheaper than the rest. But other then that the game is quite satisfying to play most of the time. I would recommend this game but only if the price goes down since their will be a lot of expansion purchasing. A few grindy parts in the gameplay here and there but other than that I enjoyed it. Now for the con's: repetitive levels, underdeveloped story, constant internet connection to play, and unoriginal gameplay mechanics. Everyone should have realized from the very beginning that Destiny was going to be Halo with Call of Duty mechanics and a Mass Effect art style. And saying a game is bad because it borrows aspects from other games is unfair. Many popular game franchises start off as rip-offs, but that doesn't mean they're bad games. Saints Row was originally a rip off of GTA, PS Allstars was a rip off of SSB, and Unreal Tournament a rip off of Quake. But all of those were still very good games. Destiny may not deliver on it's promises and hype, but it's still a fun, immersive, challenging, beautiful, and overall very entertaining game. Although it may fall short of it's potential, I still enjoy playing and will continue to do so as it is supported with DLC in the future. I'm sure Bungie has learned from the short comings of Destiny and will improve the franchise with sequels and/or or prequels. Destiny is by no means the best game ever, but I am more than intrigued to see how the future of this franchise plays out. Expand

Destiny, as hyped as it got, was always looked at with wondering eyes. "what will the creators of halo bring us next" everyone asked. What we got though was not what i believe a lot of people expected. Destiny came off to me as a shooter/MMO style game. Quite a few people still refer to it as a Borderlands Ripoff, I do not. The loot system is quite literally what you expect from an MMO, long grinds, nothing promised, and everything is up in the air.

Destiny isnt the most adept at storytelling, but once it gets you out into the world things kind of come together pretty well. You will spend more time out in the wilderness, exploring for new loot and things to kill. Around level 5 is when you start getting the good loot, and it never tapers off from there. A good majority of complaints come from the fact that the game is more MMO style than typical "eventually hand you everything" kind of single player.

Now, Heres the other issue with most reviews. They keep referring to the end game as a grind...DUH!!!! Thats the point!!! the game is over, now its time to do those rep grinds, get legendary loot, and go kill raids. thats how MMOs are. yah dingus!

all in all, the game was great. it still is, its taking up all the time i have to game and much more. Im finding myself eating in front of the tv slowly so i can play. I give it an 8/10 due to its flaws which are ever so pointed out in others reviews.

The scenery is very well done the Moon feels more like the Moon then the Moon landing videos. If you do a bit of exploring the areas feel large and dense, not Planetside large not as much freedom either but it does offer the illusion of space with some clever art design.

The queue for match making is not long and playing with strangers while not being a social affair due to the lack of communication is not bad from a grinders perspective. Though I can see why they opted out on that outside of fire teams. Most random social voice encounters are unpleasant on games like these. Though a mute feature could clear that up if it went that route.

PVP is fun though you will get smashed until you get used to it. Its fast paced short and sweet doesn't feel like attrition.

Ok the gear drops mechanics are lackluster you don't feel rewarded for what your doing much of the time. Though if you do get something you were looking for it is quite a feeling.

The story while being very well voice acted by an all star cast does not try to explain much you sort of have to delve into the mystique your self. They didn't try to sit you through long narratives I figure its because they are also appealing to a twitch shooter audience as well as an MMO RPG. If you know people from these play styles you know a MMORPGer will get his story anywhere he can and a twitch shooter really doesn't want to watch a movie when he could be shooting at things. Its very middle of the road.

I do enjoy the game and see the work put into it as it does stand out among shooters. Since games are slim pickings on PS4 right now it will fill the void for a while. Good luck!

Because despite its flaws, the gameplay itself was so satisfying and addicting, that I simply could not stop playing even as I was complaining about the games many missteps.

I've never been into FPS games. I was never any good at them and I just didn't really care for it's seemingly mindless shooting. The only FPS games I could ever get into had to have another element to them, such as Fallout 3, Borderlands or Farcry 3.

This game has actually ignited an interest in me for FPS games that I never thought I'd have. The gunplay is so fun that many days, I'd find myself so engrossed in the game that 8 hours would go by in a flash.

They've also just recently released a patch for the game that updates and fixes the games loot system to the point where it now feels rewarding to take part in the game's different PVE modes.

I honestly think that, if given enough time, this game will only get better with enough tweaking, patching and updates. I predict that within a year or so, I'll be giving this game a 9 or 10.

But for the time being, this game is now a solid 8/10 for me.

At the core, Destiny is a great shooter with great gunplay and cool special powers. The "halo" effect is there but weapons have a greater feel to them, with great animations and sound. This lays the foundation for the entire game, since replaying a mission is stimulating just by the gameplay alone. The loot system furthers this by adding different stats and perks to the weapons. The skill tree is quite similar over the three classes, but small differences seperates the classes, but not enough for it to be a vital decision.

The story in the game is really good, the only, and biggest problem is that the story is badly told and leaves it up to the player to read up on his/her own. This is very similar to games like Dark souls where you as a player get some short cutscene depictning the where too, but not the why. Speaking of the single player campaign, its also vital to point out that the missions are extremly repetative. In lesser games, this would be a real issue, but my oppinion is that Destinys core gameplay is so good, that it helps the repetative story elements to be fun to play through. The story also feels like a way to get to know the gameplay and your class for multiplayer and strike/raids, which is probally where Destiny will continue to grow.

Looking at it from this perspective, its quite clear that the social part of Destiny, playing with friends, is the biggest sell point, but here it falls short yet again thanks to lacking features for pick up groups and other solutions for finding online players to team up with. Should this feature be added, it would lift the game a great deal.

Looking at multiplayer, Halo´s heritage is clear. The gameplay is yet again great, and the action intense. The ability for Bungie to add new modes on the fly makes the game very flexible, and this is why ive given Destiny a high score despite alot of shortcomings. Destiny is best viewed as a platform from which to build. Recommending people to buy a game that in time will be great sounds wierd, but its all there. Great gameplay, great story (in the background), great multiplayer and an addctive loot system makes this game worth buying just for the great fun right now, and the great potential in the coming months/years.

The game's mechanics are fantastic-shooting is tight and controlled. Initially there were range issues with guns, but those have been fixed over time for the most part. The reason to play this game is, currently, PvP. There's a variety of modes and there's no better shooter out right now for the PS4. In addition to that, the soundtrack and sound design are excellent.

The PvE, however, leaves much to be desired. Enemy AI is incredibly simplistic, so shooting aliens in the face gets tiring very quickly. Story missions are incredibly repetitive, and playing the same strikes over and over gets repetitive as well. DLC content is sparse, but you must buy it in order to level past 30. Destiny's PvE suffers incredibly due to monotony, and needs new content if it is to remain competitive.

The story also leaves much to be desired. It is clear from the Grimoire Cards that Destiny has great lore, yet none of this shows up in the game. Destiny's poorly-written, barely-there story is a disappointment, but something that can still be improved upon in future installments.

Destiny's PvE gets boring fast, and its story is subpar at best, yet its RPG elements and great mechanics make it fun to play regardless. There is much room for improvement in future single-player and PvE content, but if you enjoy the genre, Destiny is worth purchasing.

Destiny was one of the most anticipated games for 2014, largely due to the reputation of Bungie and it's success with the Halo franchise. But, does Destiny live up to the lofty expectations of gamers, or does it fall into the dark abyss, forever to be forgotten?

After spending about 200+ hours playing Destiny on the PS4, I decided it was time to give it an accurate review based on in-depth play with everything that the game offers. Many reviewers would have you believe that Destiny is not worth the $59.99 price tag, but very few of them have managed to complete even a tiny snippet of the content in-game. While Destiny may not be the revolutionary franchise that gamers expected, it does deliver a truly refreshing IP to the FPS genre. Destiny is very similar to Gearbox's "Borderlands" franchise in that it delivers an RPG driven FPS, however, Destiny focuses more on the social / multiplayer experience than the singleplayer narrative that made Borderlands a success. As one should expect, most of your time is spent engaging enemies in a variety of futuristic locales with automated weaponry and a dash of space magic. The controls feel tight and responsive, and the shooting mechanics are reminiscent of Halo. While Destiny delivers a very well executed FPS experience, it leaves more to be desired in regards to the "RPG" portion of the game. The story is lacking, and the narrative is almost entirely non-existent. Destiny's cast of characters feel lifeless and unresponsive with very little emotion or connection to the potential narrative Bungie planned. However, for those who can look beyond the singleplayer shortcomings, Destiny delivers an engaging social experience with friends. With persistent support provided by Bungie to improve and patch the game, it is merely this franchises "Destiny" before it tops the charts as one of the most revolutionary and influential games of this generation. I truly look forward to what Bungie has planned in future DLC releases, "The Dark Below" and "House of Wolves", and recommend that you purchase this title and give it a try!

The mechanics are excellent, the game just needs more content to do justice to how smooth the gameplay is. Upcoming DLC SHOULD *I hope* fix this problem, however using DLC to flush out areas that should have been in the game in the first place is just bad business.

The DLC is going to further explain the story line and keep you engaged. You might be wondering why I did't give this game a 10 if it is as good as I say. It's because Bungie can't explain the disappointing story line that is happening NOW prior to release date. My final rating would be an 8/10 (Above average). Expand

These are all issues but not to the level many people complain. Stability issues are few and far between unless you have some major issues or incompatible ISP, but support is always available. Glitches are apparent, but rarely gamebreaking, though I have raged quite a bit at major glitches that have to be fixed that seem to be forgotten due to community needs. I understand it, but it is frustrating.

This game, whether people like it or not, has added a lot of new components to the world of console-gaming FPS. Much is borrowed in some places and not enough in others, but the world that has been created is graphically stunning and beautiful, with great tweaks, like the broken international space station high above the moon, the sheer massive size of ships, and so on. The combat is the smoothest I have ever seen.

Lack of content is offset by random drops and loot, which is a major gripe from the community, though this is nothing new. Random is how it goes, and I have heard complaints about the game being short or the game being boring, but often, these are spouted by people with 200+ hours of gameplay. And this game will keep your attention for multiple hundreds of hours. Strikes are fun, the raid is hard and worthy of raiders from any game, though it does have a lot of glitches that can end your run early.

I can spend hours on this game doing patrols and strikes, though with my characters as high as they are now, it has lost some appeal. I am very excited for much of the additions that Bungie is constantly updating and adding, but overall this game does fall short in a number of ways.

PvP is infuriating no matter how good you're doing due to faulty net code. Glitches are obnoxious, and the game is very repetive without much of a need to continue doing the things in the game that require a lot of time. If you raid, you quickly lose the need for gaining reputation or doing bounties, and there are a ton of simple additions that would've made the game far more interesting with minimal extra effort. The story is there, but is overall drab. The lore adds some nice touches, but you have to explore that using the website or companion app which was a risk that mostly fell flat. Overall, the game has gotten more boring, but after multiple hundreds of hours by most players, I don't think there is a need to complain, especially when so many of the community have gotten to the level they are at by glitching the final boss, allowing the best weapons and armor to drop.

Overall, the music, gameplay, environment, and endgame is amazing offset by minor complaints and repetition. Even with the complaints, this game will hold your attention for a very long time and will continue to influence new games coming out.

Overall, I enjoyed this online world FPS. The world is well designed, graphics are beautiful, the FPS combat is alot of fun and different when you compare it to other FPS games on the market.

While there is no real story, and the strikes you have to do get repetitive, the real fun begins in doing nightfall missions and Raids. Nightfall missions are really difficult strikes that require communication with your team mates (and you will need team mates!!). The same goes for the Raids, you will need to find 5 other players to take on the raid, whether from existing friends, the bungie website, or the numerous raid group finders which now exist. While some people complained that raids should have match making, i disagree. The game really forces you to find people in the community (which isnt to hard), and work together to take it on. Communication is essential. A good raid team vs a bad raid team makes the difference between finish the raid on normal in an hour or 5 hours (or not at all in some cases).

the multiplayer is alot of fun, my only complaint is that there are too few maps, but thats only a minor issue.

Overall, the game really kicks in at end game when you need to take on harder objectives to get better armour and reach higher levels. Its the first game ive kept playing after the "story" mode without focusing on trophies. I can see how it can get repititive at times doing the same strikes over and over again, but for some reason im still playing this?

the exotic weapons really at a different element of play and all different classes/sub classes weapon choice affect how you will take on your enemies.

Overall, Enjoyed the multiplayer when you just want to relax and take people on online, the online community have really made this game what it is, without them and the support from bungie I wouldnt pay it much. The draw backs is that there is no real story mode, and the missions keep coming back at you in the form of strikes, nightfalls, weekly heroics, etc...

One of the things Destiny impressed me with was the art design. The enemies you face look unique, and the guns you use are nothing short of astounding in design, and the way they work. You can obviously see how the huge budget they had helped with their attention to detail, this is definetly a AAA experience. My favorite mode is the crucible (PvP), it is intense and very fun to play with the unique abilities and variety of weapon choices used in the game. This game had me hooked for 3 months, with it being my main game i played. That may not mean much though, because at the time I only had a few other games anyways. I played 100 hours in the first few weeks, if that tells you enough. I had a great time with the friends I played it with, and that can't be ignored. If you play Destiny with friends, and love PvP multiplayer, you will have fun. Also something that cannot be ignored and is a trend I wish would continue in other games is that I NEVER experienced major lag. My entire playing expierence was smooth and overall it was just fun.
    Now to the bad.
Destiny is repetitive. It is as simple as that. Play the same strikes over and over again and dominate, only to see the other two random people who did it with you with even LESS than half the kills and assists you had both get legendaries. Also the strikes do get boring fast, feeling like a chore when you run through them. Also now, almost 8 months after it released, barely any of my friends play it, and I can only play a few matches without having boredom creep upon me.
My score accounts for, however, the time I had with this game while I was playing it. I had fun, that's what is important to me. Right now, if you can get it for $20-$30, I would say give it a shot if you have friends who will want to play it with you, and you like the other reasons I listed above.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny. It's hard to dissect destiny because on one hand it has an amazingly immersive, persistent and addictive public aspect that ever changes, updating mini tasks and challenges on the daily once you hit the soft level cap to keep you tied over as well as a weekly overall reset that offers some extremely difficult challenges by way of strikes and raids but on the other hand a terribly frustrating loot system, tendency to need grinding and weak story mode seek to make this game addictive but annoying.
so, story mode, feeding in some big name actors it seems like Bungie and Activision had the right idea, only it is also easy to see that they didn't give it quite the storytelling that it so deserved and with the $500m budget, the big name actors are simply pushed into a corner where they don't get much game time. they story is left feeling dry and confused as though they scratched it together at the end after spending all their time on the other aspects of the game.
Cooperatively and competitively though, destiny begins to shine and with it's impressive size and visuals, minus one or two frame rate drops, it does just that. Level your character up to the soft level cap of 20 and you'll unlock a myriad extra content to sniff at jumping into various strikes and raids with your friends (which is advised because solo is nails) that'll level your character up with gear to increase your guardians 'light' level so you can take on even deadlier challenges for even bigger rewards. the daily and weekly server resets will have you itching to see what challenges await next and what possible loot you can gain. if you're not a fan of any of this you can jump into the crucible, Destinys own PvP multiplayer area where even more unique loot can be earned. interesting is Xur, a mysterious vender who appears only on weekends with many high end items in tow for you to spend your hard earned exotic currencies on, acts as an interesting touch to the game and gives you the chance to get your hands on some amazing stuff, that's if he has what you want...
However, with all this in mind there are a few hiccups that seem to be present and prominent. one is the annoying 'Random number generator' loot system which works like a dice roll to decide what loot drops you get. One personal experience of mine is having played a 15 minute crucible session one chap jumper in at the end, did nothing and was rewarded with a coveted weapon many so desperately seek this along with the grind of saving up vanguard and crucible marks (of which you can only earn 100 per week) can leave the game being a massive grind to simply advance one level.
Overall Destiny is a game you'll play for hours and hours providing you don't mind the game, with three characters to max out you'll be here for months if you don't mind the grind. A visual and audio score to die for with a disappointing story and annoying loot system make this game an 8/10.

The worst part is the lack of content and that Bungie and Activision are aiming for players who would pay anything to play it, they release low content DLCs at a very high price. The history takes like 4 hours, and once you've finished it you'll just repeat it over and over and over again getting bored to death.

It's true you have a lot of collectibles to get (exotic weapons and Grimoire cards mostly) that in order to get them all you'll have to do what I just said: Repeat everything over and over again, and pray that you get de loot you're looking for.

    Pros-
    Its a fun multiplayer experience
    Awesome Sci Fi shooter
    Awesome co-op shooter
Great story...(dont hurt me... its there... just not in the game)
    Cons-
    Limited activities to do
    Scarce DLC
    Soundeffects could use work
broken mechanics (some subclasses are just blatently more broken)
    binding functionality
Just to elaborate on 2 of those
Pro- Great Story- A lot of people would give me a lot of hate for saying this but i have to disagree because I think it goes deeper than that. Sure, if you play through the game the story is pretty bad, but i see potential in it. For what it was going to be as well as what it could be. I'm more trying to convince you that this game has potential for the future than quality now.
Con- Binding Functionality- The end game content of destiny are called raids for the newbies out there. In these raids you're probably at some point going to use LFG to find our fill slots in your raid team. Whether these people accept you or not is entirely dependent on whether or not you have certain guns that aren't truly necessary but make the raid easier. This is my personal least favorite con, not just because elitism is bunk, but because they're a little right, the guns are not just the best option, they're almost the only option. I just wish the raids let you be your own kind of guardian. I just want to carry a trusty shotgun everywhere.
That is all i hope I have instilled a little hope in the probably no one who will read this.

Multiplayer is good in principle and could not otherwise be, given that developers are the creators of Halo and the graphics are normal, upset only by the lack of full story of the company and without reference to the Internet. I hope the second part is correct

Three different types of Light exist, Arc, Solar, and Void.

I feel obligated to give it a good review as I had so much fun with it for a long time, but it probably doesn’t deserve this rating because of the bad dlc content. The Destiny marathon of reviews begins with Destiny or as I like to call it: Destiny: The First Chapter. The First Chapter is what started it all for this series with great gameplay, beautiful graphics, a intriguing story, engaging characters, and overall, a great way to kick off Destiny into what it is today.

While this game is good and looks good, the game is insanely repetitive.
level 18, 20, 22, hard and heroic strikes are all the same just with metered damage output.
I really didn't want to do that beta septimus prime strike again, I did that enough. This game would definitely benefit from separate strike for different difficulties. I enjoyed my access to the vanguard armoury level 10

A 0 means the game is unplayable like riddled with bugs/no story/2008 graphics/very limited features

The first thing I have to say about this game is that if you followed in the wake of the hype train you will be hugely disappointed. That being said, I believe if you were that hyped about a game in this day and age you only have yourself to blame.

The game overall is solid. It has good gameplay, graphics, music, and sound. The storyline is almost non existent, but being published by Activision may have had something to do with that. They have always been a company about money first and quality second so the gaming community should have expected the base game to lack features that will most likely be added as future DLC.

Putting story aside (this is an fps after all) the game itself is fun. And first and foremost that is what matters. Is there complexity to the game? Not really. Is there explosive action on a grand scale? It's hit or miss on that one. On one note you get fast paced gunplay, but there's not much destruction other than grenades exploding or vehicles being destroyed. There is no destructive terrain, or much in the way of cinematic detail, but the actual combat is still addictive.

In my opinion the content that the game provides is a good foundation for more to come. At the moment of this writing there are already planned events in the works. It will be up to the community to decide if these are a good addition to the game but for now there is enough to do for a game starting out.

There is a campaign which is mainly an excuse to hit the level cap, and there Is Pvp to test your abilities against other players (just like your standard shooter). There are also optional quest to keep you busy. Strikes (baby raids), patrol missions (grind kills/fetch quest) and bounties (do X objective with abilities/kill enemies a certain way), and all of this Is a nice time sink if you like things like that. Just like most online RPGs have things like this to keep you busy till the next purchase.

Destiny does it's job decently but it does need improvement. The skill trees are lackluster. The enemy AI is simplistic and the boss fights leave much to the imagination. The storyline will hopefully be expanded and more in depth in the future. All of these things and more must be fixed and fine tuned to make this game worth higher than a 7 but for now the game is still worth playing. Having friends makes the experience better as well. The Bungie team has succeeded before and I believe they will again given enough time and patience.

For now the ultimate way to know if the game is for you or not is to play it yourself. Watch some streams, see some let's plays, go to a friend's house and play it. Give it a chance and if you like it post an honest review about it. If you like it then welcome to the family and if you don't then you can always avoid the game, save your 60$ and play something else.

The campaign, or story, well, forget the story. It's not worth caring about in all honesty. So then there's the gameplay. 4 worlds, numerous missions, but all of them amount to running through shooting the AI enemies or using your powers until killing the final enemy in the mission. Every mission is the same. All you want to do is earn glimmer and xp so that you can upgrade powers or weapons and level up. After which it becomes a monster grind at level 20. Or hope you get some better loot at the end. The whole game is based on this. Even the PvP which consists of the usual run of the mill modes. Capture and hold style "Control", Team Deathmatch etc. But in the PVP it regularly comes down to who has the better gear and better powers that wins the fight. And the least lag. When it's close, it's pretty good, but like I said, it's not ground-breaking gameplay at all. It's a decent shooter but seemingly designed to be played in the same way, over and over, doing the same repetitive missions, just get loot. And it's been designed to have you do this for the long haul. It wouldn't be so bad if the missions were exciting and PvP was more intuitive and offered more rewards like the missions. But that's where the grind comes in. I'm actually so hooked on the game, and grinding, and hoping for a bigger more powerful gun, that I actually can't even be bothered with the campaign now. I've gotten to end of the moon missions which is about halfway. Really no desire to carry on with it. Which then means either PvP or some co-op single strike/raid missions. All of which consist of the same thing, in the hope of better loot, or more grinding to get more credits/vanguard credits/crucible credits etc, so that you can buy some rare legendary gear after you hit level 20. Which requires grinding repetitive gameplay....

Yes it looks gorgeous and it's designed beautifully, sounds great, feels tight but, well, it's just oh so uninspiring and repetitive. And it does require the long long haul and a lot of your time if you want to get the most exotic gear and max out all the characters but the gameplay just isn't that gripping. Which is where I think it falls short. And it isn't as satisfying as Borderlands is, or as funny, or as diverse, and ultimately not as rewarding when you compare the amount of time needed investing in it, or as pleasurable.

Worth playing but unless you're committed to doing the rather uninspiring same thing over and over for the foreseeable future then I can't really say you'll be getting much out of it. And then there's the fact it's online only. Me, I'll probably play it for another week or two then trade it in. PS4 version reviewed.

The game has no soul, no real meaning and feels vapid in both on-going gameplay and story (there is no story). This game was released about a year ago and it was called Defiance - this is juts a upgrade with graphics. I don't care if Bungie have a 10 year plan, I can only judge with what we got now as i will move on to better games over the next decade. Repetitive missions, boring Strikes, Patrol etc. The Crucible is average multi-player and yeah the game is fun with friends but so is Borderlands which is more fun, more structured, more diverse and more story driven. And this whole, the game starts at 20 is bull. The end game content is still boring and repetitive while you look for loot with light in it. The MMO aspects are fine for me though it is lite but the looting is a grind and not in a good way. Stunning to look at and rock solid shooting but that's it. I did have fun for a while and the game is technically a marvel hence it gets a 7 rating - its not a 0 or 1 game but it ain't a 10 either. It just gets boring and did not hold my interest. i know expectations for the game - just got it as it is Bungie and liked Halo but with that said i did not expect another Halo nor compare. Destiny isn't bad, but I don't like it. The multiplayer isn't good enough to make me leave BF4 or Titanfall and the single player story is nowhere near Halo 4. In single player, I feel that i'm playing an MMO alone...do this and do that. Hold that position, grind gear. I would give Destiny a 8 if the MP was more balanced without annoying "supers".

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
