Is the story bad? Yes it is. It's boring and dry, it lacks humor and it feels like something you heard a million times before. Are the missions repetitive? Yes they are, just go and shoot everything that moves, no serious brain activity necessary. Is there grinding? Yes there is, Destiny couldn't escape the horrible endgame curse.

So how the hell am I giving this game a 10? Because

So how the hell am I giving this game a 10? Because during the last 3 weeks, I've been shouting into my microphone, I've been making threatening gestures at my tv screen, and I've been waving my joystick victoriously in the air like I just don't care.

I feel like many critics lost touch with the essence of gaming. Lets break down the game into categories they say, graphics, replayablity, story telling, bla bla bla... Where is the damn "fun" category? I think it's lost to most of them, some of the modern gamers too. They are running through the games, studying imperfections and missing the whole point on the way.

So in short, if you're looking for a deep involving game with a moving story, Destiny is not for you. But, if you're looking for some mindless fun, just running around shooting frantically at things that needs to die. then you'll enjoy this game. And if you like to do this with human partners or adversaries, even more so. No, this game is not perfect, far from it, it's just fun, but that's the only thing I'm aiming for when I'm playing a game.

Quality matchmaking, Gameplay is smooth, Story is average but a pass for a game, Campaign is fun, Multiplayer is fun, collecting better gear is addictive.

Multiplayer - No Capture the flag. This is a game type classic, and my favourite game type. In saying that, once you get good at head shots, rampaging in Destiny multiplayer is only second to Halo as a fun factor.

Campaign - The campaign is no Last of us or Uncharted, but it's a solid action campaign.

Destiny is a great game, 40 + hours of fun so far and still can't wait for the Iron Banner multiplayer to open.

I don't understand where all the negativity comes from with Destiny. I think people expected the game to have a ridiculous amount of content right out the gate, which is unreasonable. Bungie would be idiots if they completely finished the story for release if they expected the game to last 10 years, so they left it open to be built upon.

The PVP aspect of the game is great, far better than Halo was, and so much more going on than plain old Call of Duty (which I loved playing btw). PVE is also insanely fun and addicting, especially if you have a friend or family member to play with. I have become easily addicted to leveling up and getting new gear.

Relating this game at all to the failures that were Titanfall and Watch Dogs is ridiculous, this game is far better than both of those combined, and the statistics on play time these past couple weeks prove that.

To conclude: If you like very well designed FPS games, with a fun multiplayer, and enjoy the leveling system of RPG's and MMO's get this game!!

Destiny is the product of Bungie killing themselves to make an epic game somewhere between Bethesda's open worlds and the other first-person combat franchises. On top of this achievement you can co-op with friends through a story line that is nearly impossible at higher levels, and endlessly re-playable. There is no such thing as being done with this game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was recently asked to sum up what Destiny was like...not the story...but if I could paint a picture...but let you colour it...how would it look?
Now not all of you know the story...so simply put, there's a being called the traveler that came to us, sorry, mars, and then to us. Bringing with it enlightenment and wisdom, our race flourished and grew beyond earth, lives lasted centuries not decades...but with great light...there must be great darkness...you can guess what found us...and almost broke us...but in it's dying breath it made "Ghosts" *Think of a floating iPhone...with Peter Dinklage's voice* to seek out beings or "Guardians" that have part of the Traveler's light in them......and guess which one found you?
    DINKBOT!
    K, simple break down.
During the first few starting missions PvP (Player Vs. Player) is locked, this will give you a feel for the game, there's also a prompt to bring up your ghost, he will give you details as well as mark on your screen the direction of your mission.
Destiny is broken up into several different types of games revolving around the model of a FPS. It's wave combat, much like zombies(CoD), mixed with a hack 'n slash element of mass mobs and loot drops. It's social aspect is that any part of this game can be done with at least 2 friends, 5 at max (Raids and PvP). It also adds the idea of "raiding" from a MMO as well as the social aspect of a hub to gather, and a world where people enter and leave freely among other players. There's a Story that gives you a general idea of the factions at war (Vex, Cabal, Fallen) but as a first installment of the game the depth of this isn't what most expected, there are massive maps to explore freely in "Patrols" (When on patrols you get smaller 'Sub-missions' to kill x number of guys, scan this, do that) and during Patrols a "Public event" will happen where anyone on the map can help win it, the better you do, the better the reward. Then there's more direct "missions" and "strikes" (Strikes are harder mission with increased rewards that needs to be done with a team of 3) that can be selected from a navigation map. (Missions can be set on "Heroic" for a harder try, and better rewards)
The first 20 levels progress like any RPG, you get X amount of XP to gain a level and new abilities, your stats however are increase through guns (Intelligence for your Super, discipline for your nade, and Strength for your Melee) and armour. (Note you can increase your agility/armour/recovery through abilities gained when leveling your sub class) After lvl 20 gear comes with "Light" and you must obtain enough Light from the blues or purples (Rare and Legendary respectively) or Exotics (Yellow) the higher the light the better, as you gain more light the XP bar that was once green on your emblem is now yellow, when it fills, your level increases.
When you gain light gear it's a good idea to level it, blues are easy to lvl, they merely require saphire wire and glimmer, legendary will cost you some of the items you have to gather on patrols (Spinmetal, Relic Iron, Spirit Blossom, Helium) found on each of the planets, this then unlocks lvl 26 "Raid" (You MUST be AT LEAST 26 to try this...go ahead...try it at 24...I dare you.) instead of a standard 3 man fire team you can now have a 6 man (or woman) team and take on even harder enemies and bosses for even better gear....and always use your gained XP to level your equipment and weapons (Once you max one weapon out, when doing bounties if you favor one gun over another but want it leveled too, swap guns, only your equipped weapon gets the xp), this gives them added effects and bonuses for maximum pain dealt to the nasties trying to steal your iPhone.
PvP removes the lvl you are to balance the field, everyone shares the same base stats (however the decrease of your cool downs remains...so remember that part about your super, nade, and melee) Everyone's damage is about the same with each gun, however the stats of the gun (Stability, range, etc.) do remain, so again, remember those when gearing up for PvP.

See, I've had a general understanding of this game since we were first given a look at it. A lot of people didn't know what they were getting into. This game, as you can see above is something far different than you've ever played. It meshes the single player feel with online and does so rather well, not perfect, but that takes time.

I gave it a 10 because it is a GREAT game, the people who are negative towards the game have either bought into the rumors and other false crap disgruntled gamers have made up. Or didn't know what they were buying...and found it wasn't the game they thought it was.
As for the "Broken" aspects like that loot bug with the cave....hey...if you need to glitch/exploit/cheat to win....that's your problem...NOT mine.

Patience is a virtue and it is time for you young Guardians to learn that you will get from life what you put into life.

Bungie has created a new and exciting experience for the FPS genre with Destiny, and once again raising the bar for what to expect with FPS games! Destiny is fun and a much needed breath of fresh of air that the FPS genre was needing for quite some time! Destiny throws out the old "just play multiplayer experience and level/rank up gameplay", and added a whole new element to FPS games: MMORG elements (quests, raids, etc.). These "new " mechanics for an FPS game enhances the value of the game by giving a meaningful purpose to FPS gameplay. "Grinding" is fun and rewarding, but if that isn't your cup of team, Destiny still has a solid multiplayer versus mode (the Crucible) which is similar to traditional FPS "VS mode/matchmaking".

Overall, Destiny is worth the money!

TL;DR- It's okay to complain about the elements that this game is lacking, but to give it a zero rating??? Apparently those people have never played an ACTUALLY bad game (ex: Superman 64). There clearly was a lot of effort put into the design and game-play of Destiny, and it shows. Destiny has beautiful visuals, and the best FPS controls and feel of any FPS I've ever played. FULL REVIEW:

This game honestly deserves an 8 or 9, but I'm giving it a 10 to offset the stupid butt-hurt people who gave it a zero for no other reason than their personal spite. That is not how critiquing works. Just because you want your money back doesn't mean you go and unfairly evaluate the game itself and the work that went into it. There are very few games that deserve zeros. This is not one of them. This is a well-made fantastic game. I enjoy playing it.

Was it a let down? Yes, a little bit. A lot more was promised. But what was delivered still is pretty amazing. I am no fanboy of Bungie. I don't even like Halo very much. But this game combines all the interesting parts of MMORPG's and FPS's, and takes out the boring parts of both.

Do you have to grind in this game? Yes. But that's natural in an MMO. If getting exotic/end-game weapons, armor, and materials were easy, people would complain about how easily they acquired end-game items. Grinding doesn't detract from this game in my opinion. Compare the grinding in Destiny to the grinding in other MMO's like WoW. In other MMO's when you need to grind, you point and click. Point and click. Point and click. In Destiny, you aim, shoot, hide, etc... it's SO much more engaging and active. Especially when grinding in the Crucible (multiplayer).

As for the story, that is the only thing that makes me want to give the game an 8 instead of a 10. The story, well, sucks. Apparently there were higher-ups that caused a lot of issues and the story was reduced to what it is now. BUT, I'm confident they've learned what they did wrong. And I keep hearing a lot of people comparing this game to Halo and saying how Halo's story was so much better. Okay? We knew less about the covenant and Master Chief at the end of Halo: Combat Evolved than we do about the alien races in Destiny.

There are quite a few other minor issues with the game, but I will not go into them because they are the types of things Bungie is already fixing through updates. (Also typical of ANY new MMO)

This game in way, shape, or form deserves a 0. Or even a 3. There are so many worse games that deserve those numbers that were clearly made without any effort or thought. Destiny looks, and even feels like a 10-year love-letter project from Bungie. If there was someone to point fingers at for the story, it's Activision. But we have them to thank for the beautiful FPS controls. It is very obvious from the start that this game was not made in haste or without care. So don't treat it like it was. It's sad to see so many fellow gamers reduced to little cry-babies when they spent their money without reading reviews first and then complain they didn't get what they wanted. Sowwy wittle gamer babies, the world doesn't revolve around you ;)

With that being said, why I give this game a 10, is because I'm addicted to it. I love wasting time with the different goals the game sets up for you. I don't mind grinding missions when the objective is a little different, such as bounties, exotic bounties, and strikes. Finding a random treasure chest feels like the lottery, and hitting a legendary in pvp, is a gold mine. I love how seamless the transition is from single player, to multiplayer. It all feels like the same universe. This is different from COD and Battlefield in the sense that the single player and multiplayer, while fun, feel segregated.

I'm just having a lot of fun playing Destiny. It's as simple as that. So refreshing after Battlefield 4 was a huge let down for me. The Vault of Glass was huge and a great experience.

A lot of players do not like raids due to the fact that it does not have matchmaking for fireteams, but there are other resources on the web that can help you find them such as firetea.ms and destiny lfg. Overall, a truly amazing experiences if you're willing to put in the time for it to be fun. It requires a lot of learning to figure out how the game works. Expand

Great Game, possibly the nearest game to get near Halo as console shooter. Great story, and story mode (which is limited to player will). great replayability, months after having purchased, it is still in my library ready to be played every day. great game if you have a bunch of friends to play with you.

There are lots of people complaining out there after spending 100s of hours playing it. Think about it, if its that bad why have they played it for 100s of hours? And then they complain about having to spend a measly $20 every few months to play for hundreds of more hours. It is actually great value for money, and I will certainly be buying every expansion that comes out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know im going to get a lot of hate for this but im not the type to really give a flying toast about it.

This might not come to you as a surprise to you guys but all you see on this forum all day, everyday, all the god damn time is someone whining, complaining, crying, hating or telling everyone that their leaving destiny forever. So I decided to make this post of appreciation.

I like Destiny, Im 25 years old, married, no children. I paid about 100$ for this game(including both dlcs), and I have over 1000 combined hours of play time and entertainment from it, I would be an ungrateful brat if I said that I didn't get my moneys worth. Destiny allows me to burn free time with enjoyment. I like the thrill you get when you finally obtain the exotic that you've been waiting for. I like to open chests and find undiscovered presents. I love the fact that no matter how bad Bungie Fcks up, I keep coming back for more. I like the fact that this game entertains me enough that I don't have to spend more dough on other games(for the meanwhile). I love the fact that unlike COD, team tactics are actually essential and necessary to beat the competition. I love the fact that you have so many different things to do every week, all you have to do is chose(Poe/ToO/Nightfalls/Crota raid/Vog raid/Crucible/Farming/Bounties/Strikes). i love the fact that (LFG) allows you to meet new people, and play together from all over the world(diversity is awesome), conversating with them, making new gaming friends, have some laughs about Bungies mistakes, and knocking Skolas on his arse. I love the sense of accomplishment that you feel when you first beat a new raid, or the first time you get 9-0 in ToO, The first time you get that Darn GJallarhorn(although some of you havnt gotten it yet, it will come).

I know that some of you will hate
Some of you will be teachers, and correct my spelling mistakes
Some of you will insult or degrade
Some of you will dispute that this game is actually pretty good
Haters gona hate, ainters gona aint...you hate us cuz you ainus
But that has nothing to do with this post.

All im saying, is that we should appreciate destiny for what it is. A fun, sometimes rewarding, addicting, very social, visually stunning and enticing game. If it wasn't, people wouldn't have hundreds of hours invested into it.

    Sincerely,
    A satisfied casual gamer

This game has the element of being a shameless collectathon -- I might be the first one to make this comparison but it's the exact reason that I loved Banjo-Kazooie. This is a gamer's game to the very core. Collect, cash-in for loot, repeat. Completing end game content in a group setting is some of the all-time greatest co-op in my opinion. This game deserves to be discussed with the likes of Skyrim, Ocarina of Time, and other all-time classics.

What makes it even better is the fact that reviewers more or less panned the game. And bungie couldn't care less because of the community that emerged. This isn't about IGN or gamespot, or any COD game that will inevitably get 9s and 10s. This is originality, and something that the gaming industry was NOT ready for. Bungie, thank you so so much. I will be playing this for years.

For anyone who's complaining about Activision charging too much for anything, might I remind you that Skylanders and Disney Infinity exists! For those with children you understand and can appreciate that $40 for the next expansion this fall is a drop in the bucket.
I think most people complaining about the prices of expansions are expansion "noobies" who haven't played WoW, Diablo,Starcraft, Warcraft, etc. There are people working on the game and they have to get paid. If you don't like the game don't pay them and stop with the vanilla version. If you DO like the game, pay your designers and I'll see you in the Crucible!

The community of destiny is vast, full of people ready to help either for fun or even for activities a little more serious. Destiny I think is one of the best games of the year, for all its content, the game itself to the dlc that I recommend to buy absolutely. The only flaw of this game is the value that the game is not explained very well and what the bungie has decided to make an application that clearly explains all the lore that surround it, in my opinion a somewhat awkward method for players. The core gameplay and controls feel excellent, as you'd expect from a Bungie FPS. Enemy AI is competent, on par with top tier co-op titles like Mass Effect, Gears of War, etc., but I wouldn't say it really stands head and shoulders above it's competitors in this regard. It's a shame the alpha and beta had to take place mostly on the Earth maps, because all the other areas in the game are much more appealing to look at. There are some incredible skyboxes in Mars maps. Competitive multiplayer seems to take a backseat to co-op play this time, in the sense that the character abilities seem like something you would expect in a co-op game. It seems like the abilities in pvp need some balancing and tweaking done, and I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of balancing updates for pvp in the coming months. However there is less co-op content than I was hoping for, I do hope the expansion packs come out soon and are substantial in the amount of content. I wish repeated playthroughs of levels offered more variety in enemy types and spawns, once you've played an encounter at Lv 30, it's nearly the same every time. I would have preferred more of a randomized enemy spawning system (a la Left 4 Dead) rather than always knowing what lies behind every corner. Explore maps don't have enough different types of side missions yet. Hopefully we can get a ton of new content fast and they will improve on some of these areas, but as of now this game needs help. All that aside though, it's still a ridiculously fun game but Bungie's destiny is yet to be determined. The next few months will tell. 9/10 just for being so much fun, could be a 10 one day but it needs some TLC first. Expand

As a very sporadic and casual gamer, I usually do not care too much for a storyline or enthralling dialogue. To say this game has a good storyline would be a complete lie; the story is non-existent and boring. The characters are lifeless and the cutscenes are very annoyingly un-skippable. To say this game has a good storyline would be a complete lie; the story is non-existent and boring. The characters are lifeless and the cutscenes are very annoyingly un-skippable. However, as I said I don't care too much about that so to me this game is the best multiplayer shooter I've played in years. I could see that Destiny would get boring for single players but I very rarely play it alone. This is a great game for chilling after work and shooting some enemies with great-feeling game mechanics.
To me the best thing about this game is that when you reach level 20 you then have to grind for armour to raise your light level to increase your overall level. Since the only way to do this is either to get lots of marks to spend at vendors or receive armour in random drops, the playability of this game is fantastic. I always feel there is a purpose to me doing a mission again or aiming to do something I wouldn't normally do to strive to get that piece of armour/weapon ive been wanting for ages.
The Crucible online PVP feels great and plays well. The only thing that would be better is if a capture the flag mode was added and also a game mode without supers as that would match my play style better.
My friends and I have been playing this for months and are still on it so that tells a lot. If a bigger variety of bounties/patrol missions was added and a skip button for the cut scenes then this would be a 10/10 for me. However, I can definitely see this game would be a lot worse for single players or players looking for a game with a great storyline. Again, I'll repeat, the storyline is dreadful. But if I want a storyline, great characters and interesting dialogue I'll go watch a Paul Thomas Anderson film. If I want to shoot things, chill with friends and have a load of fun I'll play Destiny.

9/10 (for groups of players), 5/10 (for single players)

However, and that's a common theme in reviews, it's insanely fun. I personally don't like multiplayer shooters and I usually enjoy story heavy gaming. I couldn't put this down and am still playing Destiny mornings and evenings.

The reasons are something I am still figuring out - partially, Destiny masters the sense of immersion: you never get dropped out of your character, loading and matchmaking screens included. The experience of playing is challenging but motivating - I haven't hit frustrating spots yet, the graphics and score are phenomenal and while the social aspects of the game are limited, there is a sense of satisfaction in making the most out of the limited communication channels possible.

Besides immersion, motivation and growth, discovering what's actually going on and how things are working by doing is something that I find pleasurable - Destiny doesn't tell you very much explicitly, you have to go and experiment.

Overall, if any of this sounds appealing, you might enjoy this game as much as I am... if not, there are plenty of great alternatives ;)

I will readily admit that Destiny has repetitive aspects to it but what FPS or MMO doesn't? Now a crowd of people who viewed 'Destiny' as a 'gamechanger' are probably stamping their feet and howling at the cracked moon about it not being radical enough. Destiny is not a gamechanger but, what it is, is a gatekeeper to a new land of games. I have never seen a game that has blended so many elements from so many different genres/games to create something all its own.

Now at this point we should be getting the digs about copying Borderlands or copying Mass Effect or yaddya yaddya yaddya rabble rabble rabble. Well you guys must hate cars (BMWs are just Model T clones ftw) because every game borrows elements from others to create their own. What Destiny does is take some of the best elements from those other games and mashes them together in a wonderfully diverse package. Many will point to the loot diversity and say Borderlands, others look at the MP and say Halo, some point to the RPG elements and say Mass Effect and yes, its fun to point at origins and go 'Simpsons did it!' but the bottom line is those other games don't have all the elements together and that is what makes Destiny such a strong offering.

Listen, in the end, Destiny will create its own fanbase much like Borderlands did, much like Mass Effect did. It may not be as broad or as far reaching as Halo or COD or BF because if they wanted it to be that far reaching they would've just made a shooter. What Bungie did, while not a revolution, was raise the bar for the level of depth and content that we should expect from FPS games moving forward.

In the end, I know some people thought with Destiny they were getting a spaceship but got a Tesla instead. No, its not that revolutionary, its not a totally new experience or idea but its something we've never seen available for mass consumption with such an interesting mix of ideas and gameplay. So if you want to take it back to the dealership, go for it, but don't begrudge the look on the next guys face as he can't wait to get in and try something different.

Not as groundbreaking or innovative as the hype would imply but that doesn't stop it from being a damn good game. The shooting feels very solid as you would expect from Bungie, the environments are large, look great and are fun to explore. The RPG elements are light but add a nice feeling of progression and it's always satisfying to level up or find a new gun.

If you are a fan of FPS games and like or can put up with light RPG elements then this game is for you. Do not come into it expecting it to be a massively deep RPG because that is not what it is designed to be. I would say the depth of the RPG elements sits around the same level as Diablo 3.

I'm enjoying this game very much. It's a shooter that tries to hook in the RPG crowd and does a great job at it.

After that the real game starts and the hunt for legendary and exotic armor and weapons , the ranking up in pvp if you're into that , or just getting standing with the vangaurd to get you better armor.

The group zones you do after you hit 20 are great. Every day there's a new one you can do for extra exp.

You can easily see Bungie made this game to be easily expandable. Leveling beyond lvl 20 is done through gear so adding a few levels is just a mater of itemization

Reviewers tend to rate their ego vs the gaming industry. If they don't get it they don't leave it open , they just give it a bad score. I remember WOW and EQ2 reviews in big magazines having been done by people who played until they were level 20 and level 12 respectively scoring them by how good the water looked.
Honestly , these people have no idea, they are the bane of the gaming industry.

Why only a 9 and not a 10 ? I don't like the idea you need a playstation plus account to have a serious game experience. It makes up for not needing a monthly fee, granted, but they have the ability to jump on the DLC train instead , which is just the same. Add a few zones, ask 10 dollars.

The story and writing take a back seat to game-play and adventure which in my opinion is a good thing, allowing for good banter with your friends as you mow down the enemies. The RPG elements are simple yet deep and satisfying.

Competitive multi-player is also a nice surprise, it's pretty balanced for launch and the maps are really well designed, no spawning problems at all and no class or weapon is overpowered. The satisfaction from getting a clutch multi-kill with a special ability is one of the most exciting things I've encountered in a FPS multi-player in recent memory.

I'm excited to see what Bungie are going to do with DLC, a few additional worlds and mechanics is all I can really ask for at this stage, a racing mini-game in armed sparrows would be super fun and so would some kind of space combat.

I literally cannot understand the red reviews, It's quite obvious they are coming from either people who misunderstood what this game was going to be based on over-excitement from it's hefty marketing campaign or little children who suffer from some kind of mental retardation.

Destiny could be called, "Destiny: Halo Evolved". It's like if Borderlands and Guild Wars 2 (two games that I like) had a baby, that union would produce Destiny.

The game plays well, there's lots of cool loot, levelling, good grinding - you can easily lose hours in their world (and I plan to do so this weekend). But, as at least one user review has pointed out (and rightly so),

But, as at least one user review has pointed out (and rightly so), community and communication is very much lacking. I haven't been able to form or join a Strike Team since launch, there are way too many loan wolf players who are grinding and aren't looking for any substantial interaction with others. This is a very common problem in multiplayer games today that unfortunately Destiny has not yet managed to overcome. I was looking forward to Destiny since its announcement because it gave the impression that it would give players high incentive to communicate with each other. Not yet. For example, in playing through Devil's Lair last night, I was playing with two other strangers and couldn't convince them to form a strike team despite the fact that we were losing a lot. Destiny's biggest challenge is getting players talking and playing together properly, and I'm hoping they figure out how to do it.

Despite this, Destiny is a high quality title that I am hoping will patch its issues sensibly.

But, for the most part, Destiny is a very enjoyable FPS. It takes a few hours to get into, but from about 4 or 5 hours in, to about 25 hours in I had a blast. Now though, as I'm up to the mid 20's and trying to find the top line loot that allows you to reach the highest levels, I'm getting pretty frustrated with the loot system. The game rewards you with loot seemingly based on performance in all game modes, including multiplayer. But it is just random, it doesnt seem to have much at all to do with performance, which can be very frustrating. The last two nights I played for hours trying to loot up, but was unlucky and got almost nothing, at one point winning 4 rumble pit matches in a row, in which I got nothing, but in some every single other player was rewarded with loot. At this stage of the game, it is starting to feel like a chore, the grinding to try to move up levels, and so it gets frustrating when you dont find a reasonable, logical way to make your time spent playing equate into reasonable progression. But, other than that, it's a great game. Expand

Destiny is a wonderful experiment of what an open world PVE FPS could be. I hope more games try this approach, focusing less on driving the player through a rollercoaster corridor and more on creating a custom experience for each player, with high replayability.

The shooting is nice, the worlds are beautiful, and huge, which compensates a little bit the fact that there are so few zones, and the PVP is a classical but effective fast paced/low time to kill/mobility focused competition.

There are, however, some things that could be improved :
    - The story is somewhat fuzzy and poorly narated (it gets better as the campaign progresses)
    - The worlds are huge, but there are only 4 of them, a couple more would provide more diversity
    - Commuication and grouping is apalling, with no good mechanics to chat/create a fireteam quickly with people who are not necessarily your friends

Appart for the communicaiton part, that's no big deal and I definitely recommend buying it, although I wonder if in spite of the replayability options, the game has indeed a long lifespan.

The core game play is good. It has the top quality gun play that only exists in Halo / CoD series, and tried to fit it in a pseudo MMO setting. The 6 classes felt different enough for me to be invested in all of them almost evenly.

The amount of content wasn't there compared to your typical MMO endgame, but as long as you are playing to 'get better', it won't feel like a mindless grind for gears. It would be a lot better if the developers focused a bit more on PVP, made it more rewarding to perform well, balanced guns more, from the very beginning. By the time they got around to that, I had already moved on.

Looking back at the 600 something hours I've spent in the game, I feel like the game did more things right than wrong, especially with the frequent patches, the developers are really trying to make the game great.
The Vault of Glass is still one of the best multiplayer experiences I've had.

1- Social lemmings who hopped on the hype train, then hopped on the hate train.

2- Halo/COD Dudebros who expected it to be a PVP focused shoot.

Then there are the so called professional reviewers who seemingly didn't listen to a word of the releases from Bungie that THEY THENSELVES reported on. Never was this labeled as open world, or an MMORPG. Bungie specifically avoided comparisons to that for a reason. The bad reviews for this game read like a 10 year old whining about not getting their pony for Christmas. Spoiled and ungrateful. Of course I kind of expect that from Polygon- they're a bunch of crying hipster D-bags.

As for the game. It's beautiful and addictive. I don't have many games come along where I want to only play it for days on end but this is one of them. If this had been any other studio with about half the publicity it received, everyone would be calling it amazing. But there are so few people that can actually think for themselves or maintain an objective perspective.

True, the story could use some work but if you read the Grimoire cards in the app, there's actually a lot of very deep lore to the game.

Go in with an open mind, leave your expectations at the door and you will love this game.

Let me say right now what Bungie has been saying all along this is neither Halo nor an MMORPG. This game is also not Borderlands. If you bought this game or are planning on buying this game because you think it is one of these things then you are mistaken.

This game is what Bungie is calling a "shared world shooter." It is a FPS first and foremost with a combat system that is similar to Halo. By similar I mean the feel of the combat is comparable to Halo as far as combat flow, weapon mechanics, physics, etc. However, it still feels unique particularly with the super abilities.

As far as the "Shared World" portion of the game there is not open world chat system, it is all squad based. Bungie did this deliberately so that the Tower and other social areas didn't turn into troll central. Honestly, it's better that way so we don't have to deal with racists and spammers in the common areas. It is entirely up to you if and when you want to team up with other players and engage in the social aspect of the game.

The loot is cool and unique and it doesn't spam you with loot like in Borderlands and Diablo. I prefer this system honestly since you will be leveling up your individual gear.

The world is open world in the same way that Borderland is open world not in the way Skyrim is open world.

Overall, if you appreciate this game for what it is rather than trying to turn it into something it is not and was never intended to be, i.e. Halo or WoW, then you will have a great time. One of the best games I have played in a long long time.

One thing I've noticed about a lot of the negative reviews on here is that they come from people that have only scratched the surface of the game, and that is also the case with the critic reviews here on Metacritic. I've invested a LOT of time since launch in this game, probably about 25 hours, got to Level 20, had fun with the strikes, crucible, etc. so I feel I have dug into it enough to judge it.

It isn't a perfect game though. There are some complaints I have, for instance the lack of being able to communicate with people unless you are partied up is off-putting at times, but on the other hand this means not having to put up with annoying people in your team that you were put in at random. The lack of a loadout system is kind of annoying, it would be nice to have a few loadout presets that you can equip with one button. Also the way the menu system works is a bit weak, since the interface screams for a mouse and keyboard but you're stuck with a controller, the UI needs to be more controller friendly (kind of the opposite problem that Skyrim had).

The story is interesting but it doesn't have the sweeping and strong narrative of the Halo games that Bungie has put out, and it does require online access to play, so if you're looking for a solid Single Player shooting experience, you can be better served elsewhere, maybe try out the new Wolfenstein game if you're looking for that, since that was a really awesome single player shooter. That said, I appreciate the story for what it is, and it seems that we will get more as the game progresses, people are reviewing this like this is the finished product and that we will not get any more content, even though we have 2 expansions coming out as well as free content that we will get daily and weekly in the form of heroic and nightfall missions as well as Iron Banner events.

I can understand why Bungie is distancing itself from an MMO title for this game, this MMOs are typically known for stiff and boring gameplay that involves a lot of grinding, since Destiny plays like a non-mmo game, it is as smooth and fast paced as any other major shooter you've played, with a competitive multiplayer that pairs up with the rest. Despite the differences in classes and weapons, I found the online competitive multiplayer to be some of the most balanced I've ever played. The maps are laid out very well and the weapons have a very good counter balance to them, and every class has supers that are implemented well.

I recommend Destiny for those that aren't looking for a cookie cutter shooter mold, but wants a shooter that wants to be a lot of different things. I've been playing on the Playstation 4.

So. I have sunk 34 hours into this game since launch, and believe that my opinion does count.

Game is incredible. The story could be a bit deeper, but I assume they will expand on it with the DLC/ expansions in the near future. You will not enjoy this game if you're trying to play it on your own. It's an MMO after all which requires you to be social to discuss strats and generally,

You will not enjoy this game if you're trying to play it on your own. It's an MMO after all which requires you to be social to discuss strats and generally, have some fun. We've died, screamed and laughed together (new clan and friends met via it) and we still come back for more.

The game really starts after level 20 where the Heroic modifier is activated, the Nightfall strikes are activated along with weeklies, dailies and strike playlists. I have maxed out my vanguard for the week which shows how much of the after 20 content I've played.

There is a lot of hate for this game, especially in metacritic. One review I found was along the lines of "I'd give this game an 8, but because there is a few good reviews, I'll even it out with a 2". In all seriousness, that is a joke.

Very much looking forward to the future with this one, including the Raids which are opened on the 16th. Should be incredible fun.

My recommendation? Don't buy if you're not a social gamer and are not into the 'grind' of typical MMO's. You will not find this fun. If you do get it, please join a clan, make new on-line friends and have a blast.

I give this game a 9 - Purely due down to the story could be a bit deeper and the little grindy end game content (currently).

I purchased the PS4 + Destiny bundle a couple of weeks ago as part of a 'you deserve it impulse buy'. I was mostly oblivious to the hype surrounding this game and only realised it was a AAA title when doing a bit of on the spot research and opting for this particular bundle.

I've been playing games since 1984 across a slew of different platforms. Over the years I've come across a few gems. When asked what my favourite game is I usually reply Skyrim. But Halo, Half-life, Dark Souls, Uncharted, Bioshock, GTA, among others, would also rank extremely well.

Now, Destiny isn't a perfect game. It may need a little patching, minor fixes and a few updates here and there. It's an enterprise. A saga of sorts. Star Wars v0.5. People that bought into the hype are experiencing a myriad of different conflicting thoughts and feelings. Thankfully I wasn't exposed to it and can take it for what it is.

As it stands, Destiny is a FANTASTIC game! Trust me.
Here's the interesting bit: if we are to believe the rumoured roadmap, it can get even better and improve over time. I'm having a great, great time playing as a Warlock (currently level 18 and rising)! The crucible is fun! The tech tree is fun! The missions are fun! The raids and strikes are fun! Bottom line: you get your money's worth and then some. You have guaranteed fun. It's already a gem of a game and can only get better!
    Go get it! (Really!)

BTW, I simply fail to comprehend or even respect critic reviews and user reviews that rate this game lower than an 8 or 84%. It's a clear 9 for the time being. It can become a 10 soon. That's better than what can be said of most games. Well done Bungie!

This game is is like the Phantasy Star online of the FPS genre. Its a hub based theme park MMO with the best shooting mechanics ever placed into a FPS mmo. How far this game goes will depend entirely on how fast they put out content. As it is now, if you enjoy the combat you will likely put in hundreds of hours into the game.

Also, for me, such games is all about exploration: good story is good, but only if it allows me to see 'what else is there?!' -- and Destiny surely allows that via 'Patrol' missions.

Not without flaws -- players communication could be better in part of in-game (voice) chat or more simply|intuitive way to form a Fireteam 'on-the-fly', but -- hey! -- is still a very new game and I feel that it's creator a willing to make changes.

Not the best game in the world, but pretty solid. It suffers from being over hyped. But I enjoy the game and think it gets at least a 9 out of 10.All these crazy low scores are unjustified.

I don't like shooters... I love RPGs and grouping with people trying challenging things and noticing we are getting better every time we try... if you liked Borderlands and Diablo, Destiny brings back all the good things from these games improving it to the infinite. Masterpiece.

Great game! I'm still enjoying the same earth level, even though I played there a lot during Beta. Solid shooter mechanics, great loot, pvp and strikes. What's not to like!

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
