Positives are it looks pretty and plays like a everyday shooter with ok customizations.
Why did they waste so much money on a basic game like this?

Destiny feels boring and dissapointing as a fan of bungie games ie halo series apart from halo 4 the game graphics are nice but where is the story very supprised to be honest would have been better off sticking to single player and co op play instead destiny feels hollow and empty._...._................___...__.................

There is no true single-player experience, with other players always being in the same "zone" as you. Unfortunately, PVP is horribly unbalanced at this time, with certain weapons being one shot kills and others seeming acting as squirt guns. However, the game looks really good, and can be enjoyable with friends. Overall, I'd say pass on this game at the $60 price tag, and maybe get it later. Expand

The game has virtually no story, and what story it has is terrible for the setting of space. The game has no memorable characters. Halo has Master Chief, COD has Soap, Nikolai, and many others. Destiny has no IP defining characters. The gameplay is OK but it gets very repetitive. Every mission is playing through the same areas 4-5 times every on planet. It gets boring after the first 2 times you play the missions on any given planet and especially when you fight the same boring enemies every time. Character design has lots of options, but all of the options feel rather bland. Also, free roaming is the same as replaying boring missions but with no rewards AT ALL. Most of the weapons in Destiny have similar names, feel the same when shot, and look almost identical. The multiplayer is fun to play, but other than that, this game is very underwhelming. It felt like I was playing the alpha build of the game again. I have 20+ hours clocked into the game between the alpha, beta, and final builds of the game and this is an experience that I was really looking forward to, but I was very disappointed with what we received. Here is exactly why. The game has precisely zero soul. It has bland, paint-by-numbers environments that look pretty but have no gravitas. The multiplayer is lifeless in terms of communication; I played for a good while and it didn't pick up. Thing is, even the moments when it did, it all resulted in the same thing - shooting at stupid, mechanical enemies with the same movement patterns over and over again. The lack of imagination in the AI is frightening given the budget and hype this game has had, and particularly the extended beta.

Biggest flaw, as a predominantly PC gamer, is the 30fps. Compared to shooters on the PC, the drop from 60fps is so noticable as to give you a minor headache. Yes, the barren environments are nice to look at it crisp HD and pop-in isn't an issue, but none of that matters with the overall jerkiness of movement 30fps offers.

Load times are horrendous - you're talking one minute plus each time. I wondered whether it was just my copy, but no, it's universal.

Gunplay is stiff and lacking intuitiveness. Again, I can see what they were going for with a "realistic" approach to movement, but it just baffles when you're hands-on with it. The campaign mode barely extends beyond what Titanfall offers; I'll admit this may be harsh and the game may open up considerably, but the lack of story and involvement of character here is worrying. Not once did I feel an integral part of this universe, and not once was I struck by any semblance of originality in this title.

Customisation is good, but it is in no way, shape or form an MMO or even an RPG; the closest I can describe it is akin to an action RPG like Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning bundled with a half arsed Halo.

What Bungie have tried to do here is commendable; reinvent the wheel and add a twist to the ridiculously oversaturated FPS genre, and I'm 100% sure that there will be gamers who lap up every Halo, and Call of Duty and Battlefield who will be delighted with this game and think it's offering them something different. But what Bungie have actually achieved is a middle of the road, pretty first person shooter which many people will be bored of inside four hours and won't feel the need to go beyond that, and will trade it in en masse, which is a shame, because it's just a fine tune away from being a solid game.

As it stands, Destiny joins Titanfall and Watch Dogs as games that aren't "bad", but it hasn't defined the new generation of consoles. The wait goes on for the true Metal Gear Solid/PS1 game changer for the PS4/XB1.

Sadly, the positives end there. This is a game with very poor design. The missions/quests are repetitive and uninteresting. The story is completely forgettable at all points during the narrative. The weapon types are limited, making it far less interesting than Borderlands (a series it's commonly compared to). The world is basically a few small-scale zones where a few random players are throw in together.

This is a game that has a bright future with tons of additions, but sadly I lost any interest in playing beyond the first week.

Unfortunately, many of the negatives have called it, even if the "0" is a bit much. Repetitive, stale feeling FPS, with questionable multiplayer design (mainly chat), shallow story, and unimaginative game play that at times subjects the player to all of the "fun" of a MMO grind fest without really being a MMO.

To be fair, if you're one of those people that just loves playing the same level of Halo over and over, you'll probably get your money's worth, but if you're looking for something much more than that, you'll likely not find it in Destiny. Yet another over hyped, but under delivered attempt at "Redefining gaming for the next gen."

I'm giving it a 5. It's not awful. It's just meh. Rent or play a friend's before forking up your own money. A definite gamble on mediocrity.

Unfortunately, for the time being this is a mediocre, boring game and the average score of 5 (at the time of writing this) is about right. Yes the graphics are pretty, especially on a 10 year old PS3, but it's still a very repetitive shooter, where you're supposed to shoot tons of spawned enemies.
To add more to the insult, this is on a console, where aiming is painfully crippled, compared to a PC.
If they indeed wanted to focus as much on consoles, they should have though the core mechanics of the gameplay through a little bit more...
I am happy to change my score and the game is likely to improve over time, but at the moment, there is no reason to rush out and pay the premium for a launch title.

    2) Reward system provides incentives for any activity in the game to "keep you hooked."

    3) The polish, particularly on the character design, is very nice and noticable.

    4) Random events that occur during some missions, such as a giant monster appearing and a new objective to kill it for rewards, provide nice and unexpected changes of intensity.

    5) Battles require you to pay attention.

    Cons:

    1) the world feels very EMPTY and DEAD. This is a massive disappointment considering that it is an MMO-type game. I cannot understate how incredibly disappointed I am by this fact.

    2) After 4 hours, the story seems like they put a lot of effort in, but it never captures the pure whimsy and exploration I expected from a game with this much hype. Granted I still have many hours to go before I complete the main story, so this point might not be totally valid.

    3) There seems to be very little mission variety. Almost everything is a variant of "go to this planet, kill some enemies."

    4) There is very little interaction with the game world itself other than blowing stuff up.

    Summary:

Basically, take the MMO-type structure of World of Warcraft raiding or Diablo 3's bounty system (a "home city" with equipment vendors, currency points, reputation grinds, etc.), strip it down heavily so that it fits the masses without the complications and depth of 25-man raids involving 10+ classes, make it a shooter, and make it so that missions are launched from a world map screen rather than a continuous open world. That is Destiny.

If you've played WoW's endgame and think it will offer the same sort of depth, expect to be massively disappointed. Likewise, if you think it has the same crispness as a Call of Duty game you are mistaken.

This game is good, but it's not great, and it's not NEARLY the game-changer that I expected. I even bought a PS4 just for this game and I definitely regret doing so. If you already own a next-gen console it's probably worth checking out, but if you don't, DO NOT buy it for this game.

The entire vision of this game seems like something publishers came up with using statistics and market research to maximize profit, dlc opportunity, and player grinding time - an amalgam of mass-appealing game elements stuck together. Too much deja vu for me, having played Halo, Borderlands, and Mass Effect extensively.

First of all the game "plays" very well. The Halo heritage is very much present, where close combat, dodging and weaving are integral to the experience to a larger degree than in many other shooters. It's a fast paced and very satisfying way to play an FPS(in my humble opinion at least). The visuals are nice, from a technical standpoint it's nothing revolutionizing, but it's still very pretty. The music is gorgeous and often helps kick moments in the game up a notch.

    The Bad:
All of the above only get you so far though. There isn't much in the way of story or variety. It's largely moving from point A to point B, often through the same re-used maps. As it's designed for multiplayer you never really get the heroic moments you would in a tighter singleplayer experience. And when it lacks the soul and constant banter of games like Borderlands there just isn't much left. Everything you have at that point is grind, and when loot and gear is sparse as well when compared to games like Borderlands and Diablo the experience drags on even more.

The online aspects of the game also feel odd and uneven. It's an always online game, but outside of playing pvp or with friends it feels largely superfluous as you only ever share open zones with a handful of people who usually mind their own business.

It is perhaps early to say where this game is headed, but I kinda wish I could have gotten my money back for now. My time is better spent on other things than this game in its current state.

The party chat being disabled, unless I'm wrong, seems disabled but I get why seeing as this is a social game. The matchmaking isn't bad, given this is Bungie who are renown for their involvement in console multiplayer.

What I found disappointing, maybe it's just me, but the gameplay is very repetitive. There is a bit of exploration but the agenda or mission is always set in a "Go to Point A, complete, then move on to Point B." The leveling in the game is rather quick, seeing as I bumped into max players within 4 hours of playing the game on both consoles. I get why because it's the loot that matters but my fear is that it won't be enough to sway gamers into staying in the universe that Bungie created.

The Multiplayer side, something I don't play much, is good and slightly refined from the Beta stage that we all played. Can't say much about it here seeing as its really up to the gamer to come away with their own opinions.

To close, I give the game a 7.

    Pros:
Graphics great on both. Slight edge to PS4 for its vibrancy.
Gameplay great on both. 1080p and 30fps holds good on both.
It's great game to invest in and really down to personal taste.

    Cons:
    Lack of story.
Leveling too fast may hurt in the long run. Seeing as this game is a time investment more than other games.
Hope of long term investment hinges on upcoming dlc and loot. May be a big gamble that won't succeed with all gamers but with a few.
Repetitive nature of the game could prove to be detrimental to its success.

    Summary:
Destiny is a game that truly reaches for the stars but I fear it may come short since a lot of its success hinges on content that comes in the future. A future that is about to become packed with more games going into the holiday. The repetitive nature could be it's downfall but it all hinges on the gamer and his/her friends. Forgive me for saying but another game that hinged it's success on content was Titanfall. Developed by a great team with the hype and promise that couldn't deliver before it's too late. Let's hope that's not the case for Bungie's first outing since their brilliant work with Halo. Take it as you will, keep on playing.

Warning: This is a game review, not an expectation or hype review. I will simply put, tell you if the game is worth buying based on my experience with multiple aspects of the game, so here goes.

This is my first review and I hope this will answer many questions for those who are unsure about the game. This review is made up from a little over four hours of gameplay which I believe is enough to warrant a review on any game. I am separating the review based on six factors. story, gameplay, graphics, sound, replayability, and miscellaneous. I will NOT talk about the expectations of the game based on outside views or marketing.

Story: 4/10 Destiny's story seems rather absent. There is definitely a back-story involving a great evil and a mysterious savior (called the Traveller), but the specifics beyond that are hard to follow or just not there. This is not like Mass Effect or Divinity which has complex story arcs and side plots so if you were expecting a single player experience based on this factor I would not look forward to having a fun time playing Destiny. Main story missions are often voiced by your partner called Ghost, who explains the mission details as well as the backstory of what is going on. There are other characters involved besides the usual vendors or side mission npc's (like The Speaker) but the draw to the lore is barely existent. The story is there to keep everyone on the same track of battling the Darkness and that is pretty much it.

Gameplay: 9/10 This is where things are looking up. The gameplay is simply superb. Everything involving your character to the weapons you pick up to the tactics and AI you encounter all combine for a wonderful time. I am able to continue playing this game just on the gameplay alone. There is a lot here with different weapons, subclasses, leveling, skills, etc that enhance the gameplay in many ways.

Graphics: 9/10 Again this is where Destiny shines. The PS4 version will not disappoint. I will easily say this the best graphics to date for the new console. The textures are crisp, the parallaxing is impressive, the lighting and shadowing create amazing scenes. The frames per second seems capped at around 30-35 if I had to guess. There were no real drops or dips in the frames during my entire play. Your character also looks extremely detailed despite the fact you only see it when your at the Tower, when casting spells, or when on a vehicle. The effects are of a high graphic fidelity as well, with weapons, skills, ships, and vehicles clearly showing proof of this.

Sound: 8/10 I love my audio and Destiny does not disappoint in this front either. The soundtrack is impressive and helps paint the the game world Bungie has created. The environmental sounds paired with the sounds made by your character or weapons all account for a great unique experience. I noted in the game when shooting some Dreg I heard the muffled echoed sound of a sniper rifle far away followed by a couple explosions. I went to investigate and found a fellow Guardian tackling another group of Fallen. Each gun sounds distinct and different, each character skill sounds different. There is a lot of creativity heard in this game and adds to the mystery.

Replayability 8/10: There is a decent amount of end game content that is evidenced by the multiple vendors in the Tower, but I feel the replayability is in only the end game content, coop, and pvp material and not in the story content which I mentioned earlier. So in short this game will be fun to replay with a group of friends as it keep one's interest with the extra missions, pvp, and large group events.

Miscellaneous: 6/10 This is where I add details about aspects that add to the game and personal opinion. For example, seeing as it is a multiplayer game and one must play with a internet connection, I first have to note that I experienced no drops in connection or latency when playing Destiny which is impressive at launch date. There is a installation required for those, like me, who bought the disc but it did not take long. As a personal note, I felt like there was not enough added to the game. Sure it has side missions and beautiful landscape but there was not enough for me to draw to it. The world events and coop definitely helped but I feel like there are things about this game that Bungie could have expanded on, like ship upgrades, more story, vehicle equipment/research/attachments, side mission creativity (which could hopefully expand on the lore), and even more skill/weapon attachments/adjustments.

    Overall / TL:DR version

Is this game worth buying for single player or story reasons: No
Is the game worth buying to play with friends or others online: Yes

Go into an area, kill the dudes move onward. Now notice I love the hell out of Borderlands, but Destiny has that lack of spirit. It sets up things that doesn't go anywhere. With your talking flying helper thingy, and the character sometimes speaking, you'd think we'd get some banter, but no not really. And the news that Old Russia is the only explorable place on earth is just **** Come on, 500 million dollars and you have the first planet with almost nothing. Boss battles are either pathetic or extreme. They have to find some form of balance between fast shooting and MMO, but all that means is hide in a spot a shoot at the weak point, then run out for ammo eventually. Also minor complaint, but I can't stand the "Bungie" way of naming things. You know where everything is just named after something instead of just being original. In conclusion the game is little more than an overhyped Borderlands Halo hybrid that lacks in both of the games best aspects. It's a well known fact that something that can do multiple things, will never do those things as well as something focused on a single thing. This game is certain to not make it's 500 million dollar budget back. Expand

Not sure if the Playstation Network having issues, but this game should have an option to play offline. For a game that is billed to have a "cinematic experience" all I have experienced is the in-ability to play it. I'm sure this review will change once the server issues are fixed, but with no single player offline, it really hurts the overall package.

After a hunfree hours playing this game, I had to ask myself the question if it was worthwhile. The conclusion: It was not. While Destiny has exceptional, intuitive game mechanics, and a fun PvP, the game has so many design flaws, you could write a whole book on bad game design based only on Destiny. Here is a list that just scratches the surface:
    - Repetitive, linear mission design.

While Destiny has exceptional, intuitive game mechanics, and a fun PvP, the game has so many design flaws, you could write a whole book on bad game design based only on Destiny. Here is a list that just scratches the surface:
    - Repetitive, linear mission design. Lacks variety.
    - Boss fights are all the same: Deplete the health of a bullet sponge, while ADDs keep spawning. This never changes, regardless of level.
    - Unskippable cut scenes.
    - No way to control music and sound effects volume.
    - Over reliance on RNG.
    - No sense of progression at endgame. Level cap relies on RNG.
    - No established social system. Limited voice chat options. Forces you to meet other players out of the game.
    - No matchmaking for the game top challenges. Paired with the last point (forcing players to step out of the game to meet other players), it makes key game elements, like playing the raid, an inconvenience.
    - You have to find key points of the story out of the game.
    - Enemies spawning at the same spots, at the same time, always. Many other immersion-killing mechanics.
    - Hub area NPCs limited to vendors.
    - Open world lacks discoverability. No reasons to go off the beaten path.
    - Grinding. Hours upon hours of boring gameplay spent farming materials.
    - Limited character customization. At endgame, gear customization is reduced to selecting a limited amount of shaders. You can choose between a few abilities and the weapons you use. That's it.
    - Weapon customization is limited to choosing between a couple of set features.
    - Amount of content just barely acceptable. This must be a decision based on greed rather than incompetence, since the DLC with additional content, was advertised, and for sale, even before the game came out.

I'm just getting started here. The bottom line is, Destiny is a wasted opportunity. The excellent gameplay mechanics, visual and sound design, and fun PvP, saves this game from being a 2/0 or even a 0/0. Those are my two cents.

    cons:
no story - its worse than borderlands! at least borderlands has a continuous story with plenty of characters (not to mention how awesome they are); in destiny there is only you and your ghost who tells you to first go here then go there then go there for no apparent reason (aside from "to kill aliens").
repetition ftw - not only is the objectives in the game limited to go to a specific location, defend the ghost while it scans and kill a boss, the missions' location are also re-used! You would be asked to go to a place, kill everyone inside and completes the mission, only to come back again later and do everything all over again!
weak weapon variety - there are a few weapon classes, but weapons within the same class has little variations. They are practically the same weapon if not for rare weapons' special effects (which are not game-changing). They even share the same firing sound and reload animation! Hopefully this is just because I havent progressed far enough in the game (lv14 now)
weak player leveling - you dont choose what you get for leveling up; you get a predestined upgrade but need to manually activate it (by pressing x). They probably did it on purpose to suit the game's title. One class has a total of FOUR active skills! One of which is glide (alas, its not wingsuit from farcry 3. its just an invisible propeller) which is really a passive skill. After that you only get upgrades for existing skills. It is not remotely comparable to borderlands.
not a lot of enemy variety - honestly a problem for every video game.
Always online - Destiny has no pause button even when you play alone. I have also experienced disconnections (a total of 6 dc's in 2 days, tho I played a lot).

    pro: gorgeous graphics (not sure whether to thank bungie or sony);
    nice voice over and music;
    overall better-than-last-gen enemy AI;
    a clean interface means the game is easy to learn;
    fun pvp with players and spells flying everywhere in a huge map - but there can only be 12 players in a game;
awesome loading screen animations, plus u can access customization while the game is loading.

In its current state Destiny is by no means a must-buy. Ask yourself if you really want it before buying.

After grinding away bitterly, I've found a new enjoyment - simply enjoying the gameplay for what it is with a couple of mates is fantastic fun!

It feels like Bungie has built a framework for something huge, and sold it as a game by tacking together some gamey elements and hyping the crap out of it.

Positive: The gunplay, FPS feel, general gameplay is wonderful. The graphics and sound are excellent.
Negative: It feels empty and soulless at times. It's a feeling brought on by a distinct lack of depth to anything you do. Huge server wait times (some describe these as loading screens). Lifeless tower hub with only a handful of other players there. It's a very clinical, sterile experience.

Loads of potential, fun fun fun at times, but on the hole, a clinical, sterile experience, void of any real creativity, design direction, depth or emotion.

I'll try to keep this review to the point whilst giving a very unbias view point as I came into this game with little to no expectation, having not played borderlands or halo, and not really kept up with the hype (as much as a person can do in this day and age).

Game time as of writing this review: ~10 hours

    PROS:
    + Beautiful graphics
+ Solid, robust FPS shooting on a well built engine
+ Vast array of weapons, armour, customisability
+ PvP online play is fun (as you would expect from a Bungie game)

    CONS:
    - Very poor AI (enemies will stand by walls, run into each other, stop chasing you if you leave the room, etc. It's possible to defeat a lot of the 'bosses' by simply standing in an area outside of their designated 'arena' and pick them off slowly; almost like PS1 old school game-style)
    - Bland, repetitive, formulaic mission (consist of going to an area, shooting the enemies until they're all dead, move on, rinse & repeat)
    - Poor versatility in gameplay (adds to the previous point - Bungie's idea of bringing a new gameplay dynamic seems to be to give you the same objectives but half way through the mission make respawning less available. Other options include using vehicles and using a sword but as soon as you get involved and start enjoying these varied mechanics, Destiny stops you and tells you to get back to shooting the infinite waves of carbon-copied enemies. In addition, missions often send you back to the same areas over and over. Dull.)
    - Poorly written storyline
    - Poorly written characters and, as a result, dull voice acting
    - The need to be online for the story mode seems completely arbitrary and near enough pointless, with people just wandering around your mission doing their own thing, not really affecting you or helping you in the slightest
    - Multiplayer can be difficult due to much higher levelled players with much better equipment playing with you
    - Buying new equipment is difficult as most vendors only hold items that are out of your level bracket or too expensive (usually the former)

    CONCLUSION:

These a few other niggles but these are the glaringly obvious ones that have annoyed me thus far. It's unfair to give the game 0 - 3 ratings as this game is very well built, playing perfectly well and for me games that don't work should have these scores.

I feel as though a lot of people are being overtly harsh and upset with Destiny, however, on the other hand, those giving the game 10/10 need to reconsider their definition of 'perfection' as this game is far from that.

The user score (at the moment of writing this) is 6.4 and I believe this is a representative score for the game (however, the means by which the average score has been obtained with very high and very low scores is something I don't agree with).

Destiny is a solid, if not boring, FPS that does not revolutionize the genre as many had hoped. The MMO aspects are few and far between and don't have much effect on the game, with most sections being boiled down to the basic 'shoot-these-aliens-move-on-shoot-more-aliens' mechanic of what is a standard, run of the mill, very good looking, FPS.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I dont normally write negative reviews because no one whos made up their minds reads them anyway but i felt compelled to do so with Destiny.

On the surface after a few hours gameplay it appears to be groundbreaking and original it dazzles you with a whirlwind adventure backed up by the most polished graphics yet to appear on a console.

Unfortunately this is all an illusion, what Destiny is, is very simple, a combination of tried and tested systems from various games wrapped up polished and put together in a package that stuns and dazes you into believing its something its not.

All that said its not any of those things that lead me to write this review, infact until level 20 i was very happy with the game, its at this point i should mention im a going on 10 year wow veteran and once i reached level 20 i found my situation very very very familiar.

Weekly raids, daily heroics, rep to grind, marks to earn, epics to buy from vendors and a never ending stream of earlier content revamped for a higher level in which to gain said rep and marks.

To go into specifics about what i disliked about it would take longer than the 5000 words im limited to but to list a few, to get beyond level 20 you require gear with +light on it to earn gear with +light on it you have to do level 22 dungeons because only level 18+ rares and legendarys have light on them and level 20 dungeons only reward you with level 17 gear.

The rep grinds are insanely long, after 18 hours of leveling to 20 all the time working for the faction you start as i hadnt gained level 1 rep with them and there are 3 levels required to be able to buy guns from them for which you still have to earn the currency to purchase.

The currency system is flawed and overestimates how patient and committed console gamers are 3 marks per level 22 dungeon with a max of 100 marks per week with every gun costing 150 marks so your looking at 34 runs a week at 40 minutes minimum each just to reach your cap.

Now i have 12 level 90s on wow and i cant stand earning my valor max on half of them each week in all honesty, but from my own personal stand point this is a key flaw in the game.

Some have said the story is poorly written personally i find it entertaining if not amazing it reminds you very much of Halo and doesnt really shake the feeling of being a borderlands + halo hybrid all the way through the game.

What the game does well are things that have been done well before, tried and tested combat from Halo and Borderlands, RPG features familiar to any WoW or Rift player and if you personally have the time to invest 24 ish hours each week earning your marks and getting your gear and have no issues with the daily repeatable quests of WoW or Defiance etc then you'd probably enjoy Destiny for what it is.

A incredibly overhyped fantastically polished grind fest which is a mash up of 3 of the most successful games series of our era.

Destiny certainly feels like a meld of great games I've played in the past, which may seem like a good thing. Unfortunately, I found myself simply wanting to play those games and not Destiny.

As I said, I really wanted to like this game, and had high hopes with the first hour. Concerns began to creep in when I realized I was routinely fending off waves of enemies while my Ghost scanned or hacked objects. Went to the Moon, Venus, and Mars. The only change I saw were the enemies I had to incessantly mow down.

I've since sunken in dozens of hours and currently sit at level 24. I just cannot take the grind anymore as the monotonous nature of the game only magnifies it. Killing bosses is not at all rewarding, literally. They almost never drop any significant loot. They're incredibly static fights that simply require you to shoot the weak spot for 5-10 minutes while fending off waves of lesser enemies.

Perhaps time will fix some of the issues I have with the game. But there are also issues with the game that I don't think can just be "patched" in.

For now, I have to go with a 6/10. It's not a bad game by any means... it's just not very good at this point.

Speaking of wastelands, the world feels empty like in Id’s Rage. That game at least had more satisfying weapons/combat, ran at 60fps with remarkable fidelity and had some amazing facial tech.

I could go on further about the unbalanced and laggy PVP, terrible loading times, and other always-online irks, though instead I’ll finish with Roger Ebert’s summation of another expensive flop.

"The cost controversy aside, Waterworld is a decent futuristic action picture with some great sets, some intriguing ideas, and a few images that will stay with me. It could have been more, it could have been better, and it could have made me care about the characters. It's one of those marginal pictures you're not unhappy to have seen, but can't quite recommend.”

Destiny has great game play and music but lacks dramatically in almost every other aspect of the game. I'll though out story line, parts of the game ONLY available on the bungie website ( grimoire cards and create a clan) that should actually be in game, poor voice acting and a below average reward system. The game feels like a giant shiny brand new slot machine. Pure RNG doesn't make it seem riveting or fun. Even when you get an exotic armor or weapon you feel glad, but it simply wears off. With no loot pools or next to no confirmed drop rates, the loot feels 100% luck based and not rewarding at all. Not to mention the flaw in the raid, making it possible for people who don't know how to do a raid properly or even be geared for it, get the best current in game gun the Vex Mythoclast which is one of the only in game confirmed drops for completing the raid on hard.
One thing Destiny does good is the social experience. I have a lot of fun playing with others. Getting a group ready to run through the raid is a lot of fun. But even then, it gets dry fast.
My final verdict; don't buy this game hoping to be a triple A giant. Come into Destiny with low expectations and it may appeal to the consumer more.

The idea of exploring vast worlds and interacting with other players throughout a massive universe sounded amazing.

How it sounded, and how it actually is are quite different.

I can't really make the best comment on how Destiny stacks up with other games in the FPS space. As I said, FPS games aren't my top choice. But, I will say that I feel Dust 514 was a better blend of FPS and RPG/MMO elements than what Destiny seems to be in it's current state. If the Dust development team had the Destiny team's budget we may have gotten an amazing game, instead we got one game that was probably too overwhelming and unpolished for the typical FPS gamer. And, another that is all style over substance.

Destiny was supposed to have vast open worlds...it doesn't. I've died multiple times by jumping over a ridge I'm not allowed to jump over, not exactly open world, at least have the area surrounded by toxic gas or some crap so I know how limited my boundaries actually are. You can see these vast beautiful areas, but you're not allowed to venture into them. As I said, the worlds are beautiful and I loved exploring through the tunnels on the moon, etc., but that doesn't make a game great, IMO. And, it's certainly a game that overpromises in the open-world department.

Overall I would rate the game as such:

FPS - 8/10? I'm not an expert here, it might be a great FPS, I just don't really know. I enjoy the FPS in Destiny more than I have in most other FPS games I've played.

RPG - 5/10 It's cool to check out these planets, the story is ok if not spectacular. The real problem I have here is the utter lack of character customization and town type locations. There are three categories and very little ability to customize those categories. Experience gains lead to a very set path of upgrades with little to no customization except from gear. If you're a hunter (as I have played) then you get the exact same upgrades as every other hunter, for the most part. The fact that there is only ONE city in the game with vendors etc. is also very limiting from an RPG perspective. There can't be human outposts in other parts of the world? Small bands of brave souls couldn't have figured out a way to hole up and protect themselves in a rough frontier life? The decision to make the world home to one human city seems to be a bit of a cop out to me, even the one city has almost no real method of interacting with characters or NPC's. In a two-hour type gaming session I might spend three minutes in town. That's just stupid. In fact calling this game an RPG at all is somewhat of a joke.

MMO - 1/10 There is no interaction with your fellow players. No real guilds to join or allegiances to forge. The fact that other people are running around the maps is almost coincidental. Your interaction with them is no greater than with NPC's on traditional RPG's. It astounds me that gaming magazines and review sites consider to apply the term MMO to this game.

This game was marketed as an MMORPG/shooter. There really is no RPG side to this. Yes, you can pick different classes, but there is really no difference in the classes. Another issue is that many of the articles about this game state that it could take week to beat the story mode, when in reality it takes a few short hours. There was supposed to be dozens of worlds to visit for the story, but that is not the case.

If you are looking for a "game changer" you are out of luck. The gaming industry has not game out with anything original since the PS1. The last time games were challenging was back in the SNES days.

I fell for the hype train and in the cold light of day, this game whilst mechanically sound, has fell short of the epic it proposes to be.

It was a bold claim, dare I say audacity to claim that this would be up there with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars for its story and longevity.

As I said previously, mechanically its a sound game, but then again let us be honest, its Halo mechanics, story wise however it is very poor with a high degree or repackaged repetition. It relies to heavily on a grimoire external to the game itself, if people have to leave your game to get the story, unfortunately from a design perspective, that constitutes a failure in my book. If you put old and new games (Halo and Destiny) side by side I would choose Halo.

Looking back I would not have bought this in the cold light of day, I think I made myself believe the Beta was a small sliver of something huge, sadly its the entire game near enough, and only the background changes.

MP is fast paced but unfortunately the class powers do not balance overly well as you do not get the cohesive units working together like you can in a strike, hence certain class powers which work in concert and defence are overshadowed by one hit guns and cloaking.

I feel that another AAA game has been a disappointment and in 2014 I am still waiting for the big AAA to appear fulfilling its promises. This year has been a better one for smaller studios who have kept the corporate mind-set well away from their creation.

    Thanks for reading.

Too much work was spent on making an immerse open world game with an impressive environment. Don't get me wrong, it truly puts me in its universe but all that effort is in vain if the A.I and combat system are ridicilously dull. There's definitely a major lack of imagination and poor scripting knowledge to the point, of this being one of my biggest disapointment for the past 2 years of gaming.
The repetitiveness is so annoying i often wonder if a rage quit was necessary but "ze graficz" were the only reason that kept me playing wondering what i might admire next.. Believe me, It was frustrating!!!

Comparing it to id Software's Rage(2011), Destiny(2014) certainly isn't an improvement and it being released as a next-gen video game seriously makes me doubt if next-gen consoles and their Devs have what it takes for the next 5-8 years to be on par with the aggressive and fast growing hardware of a Personal Computer..

Gave it a heavy 4, it really doesn't deserve much more.
"Destiny" is a beautiful looking chocolate cake, but after the first slice you notice it ain't got no chocolate.

Bungie likes to say this is their biggest game ever but they have been making linear shooters since forever so how is that a good measuring stick for a quasi-mmo like destiny?

The explorable area in Destiny feels tiny, a small selection of open world zones. If you played the beta, multiply the old russia zone by four. That's it. Earth only has one explorable zone, same for the moon, mars, and venus. Each one smells like cut content, too - King's Watch and the Jovian Complex on earth are still sealed after release.

The story is almost non-existent, or only available via the trading card like "grimoire" on bungie's WEBSITE, not in the game at all. If it was bungie's intention to leave the player in the dark, well they went in and smashed every nightlight in a fourty mile radius and it sure didn't make anybody happy.

The focus on PVP over PVE - illustrated by the majority of "events" revolving around the unbalanced pvp system which is rife with insta-kills and quickly demonstrates which class has the ridiculously superior supermoves.

PVE is left to rot, which is a shame because that was all I wanted from this game, with only repetitive strikes, daily bounties/publics to do like a checklist from WoW, and an annoying reputation system which for some reason isn't account-wide, forcing you to build up reputation all over again for any other class characters you make. PVE's strike playlist seems weighted or perhaps pruned to only provide the same 2-3 strikes in each rank, and is your only option if you want to be rewarded for doing strikes or any kind of mission once you hit level 20.

Which leads me to how players are rewarded in destiny, which is to say- they aren't. for all their talk of having a "cool story" about every piece of legendary gear you have, my only story is "oh the blue deckard cain cryptarch man ate 20 other purple engrams and this is the only one that survived" or "oh i went to vanguard-mart and bought these", hardly ~epic tales~ for the ages.
Additionally you will receive NO REWARDS for doing any story missions after level 20, unless it is a "daily" story mission. and choosing a strike to do with your friends which ISN'T via the playlist menu will get you roughly jack crap if anything.

Oh and get this: BOSSES DON'T DROP LOOT! This is an extreme wtf moment, they should be a loot pinata after how long they take to fight! Bungie, take a lesson from borderlands 2.

On top of this, a Playlist Strike takes about an hour to complete and you are maybe only going to get 2 blues (not legendaries) from completing it, and blues are completely useless once you hit 20, you NEED purples and exotics to advance.

Honestly shooting into that loot cave was more rewarding than any of the activities in destiny and it should have been a huge wake up call for Bungie, but all they did was close it, water down drop tables, and ensure your purples stay purple (the only good decision of the pack.)

For now I'm just waiting to see if my pre-bought DLC consists of cut content, a friend of mine is convinced that new dinklebot lines or other hollywoodians talking will confirm that the DLC was just slashed from the game and sold to us later. We'll see.

Maybe Destiny 2 will waste less money on bored hollywood voice actors and put more into generating content and fun things to do.

I also am personally challenging Bungie to patch in a better and more rewarding loot system so everybody can feel the warm fuzzy embrace of purple and gold drops no matter what they decide to do with their time in game. If they ever do, maybe my review will change.

This game brings nothing new to the table other than jaw dropping visuals and a excellent music score.

The game however is a empty shell that is very repetitive, and honestly not worth the end game grind.

Its painfully obvious the game was stripped down in order for the users to buy DLC, though Bungie/Activision will never admit it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny is good game, it draws you in straight away with it's graphics and great gameplay. That all came to end for me, all the top tier gear is locked away at level 20 and you need to earn reputation with factions and currency to be able to buy the gear. the problem with that is by the time you grind enough reputation and currency you have done everything the game has to offer so many times over.

Once you reach level 20 you HAVE to wear specific items that have a Light rating in order to continue leveling up, if you take them off to wear something with no Light rating you can no longer level up beyond level 20. This mechanic to me is just pointless in any game let alone a game that already has so many things that need grinding they add specific items you need to farm just to level up beyond level 20.

The story is almost non-existent and even though I just played it I can't remember anything about why I was running around the solar system besides it was to stop a darkness that is never really explained who defeated a traveler that is never really explained or how a tiny little floating box somehow brought your character back to live after being dead for hundreds of years.

The game appears of have had great potential not to mention an insane budget and wit both of those what has been released is a very pretty game with excellent game play but is completely devoid of any good storytelling in its campaign and far too much farming/grinding.

You'll either save 58 dollars or not mind a small initial investment because you'll be hooked on it. I happened to be in the former camp. After two days, I had the story nearly finished and was almost at the point where I could start collecting the purple weapons...and by this point I had a voice in the back of my head constantly screaming "why should I care?"

I'll start with the good, character and weapon design is pretty well done, it's standard sci-fi fare, sounds are a mixed bag, with some weapons sounding like plastic toys and others are viscerally satisfying. The lighting stands out particularly, shadows dance off the walls and seeing the sun reflect off a destroyed space station is breathtaking, although some textures tend to look plastic-y. Co-op can be extremely rewarding and the idea of running into strangers to tackle random events together is fun, although it's also Destiny's biggest problem, relying on others for fun. I have to draw a parallel with borderlands, where it can be even more fun with friends, but works just fine on its own, Destiny not so much.

On to the bad, what you've heard countless times is true, it is repetitious, and thinly veiled at that. Patrol missions are variations on 4 objectives, scan things with the ghost, go somewhere and scan things yourself (stand in one spot motionless) kill enemies, and kill enemies and pick stuff up. It's the same thing you do in regular missions without a boss enemy, and with less structure. It doesn't matter what material you pick up because the process is exactly the same. The 'Ghost' that follows you around and narrates your adventures is a mashup of cortana and guilty spark, so you'd think the creators would have done a good job on it, but the dialogue is cringe-worthy. I can't believe someone signed off on it with a straight face, although story is absent from Destiny, and it hurts the overall game because all the generically named enemies you fight are all just space fillers, and more often than not they'll either walk in a straight line towards you or stand there while you shoot at them to the point where you actually find one who dodges your attacks it's frustrating, the only purpose they serve is to help you level up, although no matter what level you are they give the same experience, and the difference between shooting a level 2 fallen at level 16 and level 3 is minimal, with damage appropriate weapons, although fighting a higher level enemy turns them into a bullet sponge and your armor into 1 ply toilet paper. The leveling system exists solely to hamper progress, and after level 20 to cater to MMO lovers. There are so many elements in the game such as ships that have no effect on gameplay whatsoever, and it all seems like wasted potential.

I could go on, and that's unfortunate, but there are some who will enjoy this game and I think you should definitely give it a chance, although to me it wasn't worth it. It almost seems like this game got rushed out the door to cash in high profile games being pushed back to next year and the story wasn't fully developed. I'd keep my eye on this series in the future and definitely give it another shot, but this one was a miss for me.

The PVP has been the most redeeming factor here and even then I question how long they could keep that a fresh experience. Well, it'll be with expansions of course. $95 for an always-online game and the expansion pass that you'll need come December when the vanilla version becomes obsolete. I will start off with the positives, the gun and movement mechanics of this game are fantastic, and rival Call of Duty in terms of smoothness and feeling and this makes for a good, and responsive online mode, i.e. The Crucible, and the graphics are mind blowing, especially on the Moon, and the music will go down as some of the best produced music in video game, and sometime blow away the action that is happening on the screen.

Unfortunately the flaws and messiness of this game outweigh the positives this is when Destiny stops looking like a Bungie masterpiece and more like a Activision tragedy, we'll start with the basics that they got wrong, there is very little story, and the story that is there is mediocre at best, which is protecting the earth from a darkness, such a Sci-Fi cliche, and there is a severe lack of cut scenes or character/development, which competitors such as Borderlands seem to excel at with fantastic characters and a good story, and after Halo you expect a decent story line, you could make the argument that this is an mmo, but mmos such as Guild wars 2, and WOW have a lot of lore and a decent story.

The next major problem is the lack of variety, what I mean by this is the mediocre missions consist of finding something for the ghost to hack into then clearing three waves of enemies, EVERY SINGLE MISSION, and you think to yourself if this will get any better SPOILER: it doesn't, repetition can work in the music industry, not in the gaming industry. Then there are the enemies when you look at mmos they have a vast array of different enemies to kill, unfortunately in Destiny there are four very similar factions, the fallen, the hive, the vex, and the cobalt, each with around 3 enemies you will see alot, and throughout the story and beyond, you will be tired of killing vandals and acolytes. Then there is the SEVERE lack of loot, you will be tired of coming across rustburner after rustburner opening blues, you will be tired of Galahads, and this is a crime for this type of game, with borderlands having loads of unique weapons, and literally 100,000 of combinations, and WOW having over 7000 weapons, with destiny only having around 10 in each class, it will literally be hours before you have duplicates, which fyi you cannot trade in a social game, another issue with this is the boss system, the sole purpose of bosses in this game is to sponge bullets the bosses are so easy, all you do is hide and then shoot whilst he isn't shooting you, they have no different patterns other than shoot, shoot, and maybe a missile, even games in the NES era has better bosses, there are also no stages, it doesn't do anything different when it's low, absolutely appalling.

Another issue I have with the game is a lack of interactivity between players, as I mentioned previously there is a lack of basic features such a trading or voice communication in crucible, and if you are on your own, as friends may not have the game, or your system of choice you will be unable to do things such as the vault of glass, or the weekly, as there is no matchmaking system for these things. Which is a crime for this type of game.

Another MAJOR issue for Destiny is the absolutely abysmal looting system, it is a type of looting system where players choose to sit at a cave shooting endlessly than do bosses, crucible, or replay missions, where you are not rewarded for your actions in the crucible as appalling players are giving exotics, whilst the top players have the exact same chance as an afk player, and doing things such as strike does not give you a viable chance of getting gear.

Let's talk about the crucible, and how it is the only thing saving this game from instant irrelevancy, it is fun, and can feel rewarding at times, however, with only 4 modes, and 10 maps you will soon get bored, as it does not reward you in gear, and once you have the PVP Armour there is no point in ever playing it again, as no matter how well you do there is nothing to reward it such as exotics, also there is some really big balancing issues such as the shotgun and autorifle being by far the best, and the titan and hunter being the best classes.

I know things are subject to change but for right now I cannot justify a recommendation to purchase the game, and I would say keep well clear until better content, or a sale.

While some of the weapons feel under powered, and others a little overpowered, the gun element is nearly on par with the Battlefield series.

As I said, I really want to love this game. But it seems like Bungie want me to just walk away from this game and give up. For all the fun they bring with the gun play and the beauty they deliver with their world creation, they manage to undermine it all with repetitive gameplay, boring bounties, vendors selling weapons/gear well below your level, and a RNG that is so random it makes a monument to Abraham Lincoln's hunk of watermelon seem methodical.

    The Story

The story is just poor. Bungie do not want to hold the gamer's hand but this doesn't mean you can fore-go basic story telling elements. As a Guardian you are plopped into the middle of a massive war between light and dark, never once asking "What the hell is going on!!! Why is it several hundreds years after I was alive?!! What is all this?!!" Nope, you just seem to accept this crazy world and get on with murdering various races without questioning which side is actually good and bad. What makes the story worse is that you feel massive chunks have been torn out of the main arc - leaving gaping holes and many puzzled faces (I assume). The story is one of the biggest downsides, especially considering what Bungie did with the HALO series.

    PVE

The open world is at first a great experience. The patrols on the various planets allow you to explore and take part in the fun public events. The seamless interaction with friends (not randoms as it is impossible to speak to non fireteam members) needs to be applauded. The fact that you can join a friends game easily is a great addition. But once you have done the same missions/bounties for the nth time the PvE starts to get a little dull. Sure you have one raid to build up to, but you may find that this soon becomes a tedious task of farming for materials and xp, instead of a game of exploration and cooperation.

    PvP

Many have enjoyed the multiplayer element, and the crucible can be fun for people who enjoy arena style gaming. It is however weighed down by the lack of maps, rotation, and game modes. Additionally the use of supers in PvP has been an interesting addition allowing even poor players to have a moment of glory. However the four game modes are not that entertaining and the 6v6 feels a little old gen (but I know it is key to arena style MP). The PvP falls behind the likes of CoD and BF. The worst part of PvP appears to be the hit detection, which seems to lag behind. This coupled with a poor matchmaking system can make the PvP experience a frustrating one.

Overall the PvP is a weak feature, especially when you realize that map voting, or even map indication (which map is up next) is not available for the mode.

    Special Events

To date we have had 2 special events, the Queen's Wrath and the Iron Banner. Both had lukewarm receptions. Certainly neither event can be considered a success for player satisfaction or even for gameplay diversity. The Queen's Wrath had similar bounties and mission than the PvE and the Iron Banner was a failed attempt to 'make power count' and utilized only the control game mode.

    Bungie

One of the most disheartening parts of this game is Bungie itself. It seems that instead of fixing the issues of repetitive gameplay, maps, rng, and missed rewards for completed bounties/missions, they are instead fixing things that aren't actually issues (such as the game not being random enough for their liking). Every Friday you will get an update from the community manager, and every Friday you will sigh in disbelief at the latest issue they have 'fixed'.

    Wait and see

What may annoy you is the constant talk of how this is the vanilla platform of a massive MMO that will last a decade. if you are not willing to spend 60 euros on a game that is essentially just a vanilla platform then you should not even consider this game. the time you will have to invest, not to mention the money, may not align with what the game gives you.

    Overall

I want to love this game. I want the hours I have sunk into it to be meaningful. But I feel that Bungie are not sure where this title will go and the current content is repetitive and shallow. Wait until the new year and see what the new DLC brings. If that changes the game and adds diversity then this game will be worthwhile, otherwise invest in Halo and BF.

Once you have completed the story missions and unlocked the Moon, Venus, and Mars, there is very little content to keep this game from becoming nothing more than a grind fest for better gear/weapons. Sure you could run some high level strikes from the Tiger playlist, but be warned, you'll probably get the same strike back to back. Since the loot rewards are random, you might have to spend several weeks to get an upgrade for a particular item slot. (I have 3 max level Titans and run the raid on normal and hard mode each week on all 3. That's 6 raids for the last 5 weeks, and I have yet to get an upgrade for the legs slot. This prevents my character from reaching light level 30.) Should you get lucky enough to randomly loot the item you wanted, check the perks/stats on it. Those are also random, and although it may be an upgrade to your light level, the item itself might have perks and stats on it that do not benefit your character or playing style at all. The developers are quick to patch certain aspects of the game that they feel needs a hotfix. IE: the Vex Mythoclast is an exotic weapon only attainable through the completion of the raid on hard mode (also random chance). This weapon was regarded as the best weapon in the game and absolutely carved it's reputation in the PVP battlegrounds. Within 2 weeks a hot fix nerfed the damage output of the weapon in both PVE and PVP. Now the best weapon in the game is the most useless weapon as it's damage is rivaled by any auto-rifle or pulse rifle. Apparently a patch was supposed to be introduced to increase the damage that the Mythoclast does in PVE, but it's been 2 weeks and yet no word of when the fix is going to be implemented. Here's the other catch, because it is classified as a Primary fusion rifle, the amount of ammo that can be carried is very limited, as most armor specifically grants extra ammo for a specific gun type or the weapon slot like Special and Heavy weapons. Not Primary weapon ammo. I know it just sounds like I am whining because I own a Mythoclast, but why spend the dozens of hours to earn a weapon that was initially designed to give the hardcore players an advantage in every aspect of the game? Now to vent a little on the PVP battlegrounds or Crucible as it's called in the game. Lag.... Lag... Lag. Other than that, it's rather fun and frustrating at the same time. The map playlist doesn't seem to cycle well. Expect to get the same map over and over if you play a certain game type for a while. The game types are the same as Call of Duty multiplayer, just with different names. Level advantages are disabled, so as a level 29, I can still get smoked by a level 5 if I'm not careful. The developers introduced a game mode called Iron Banner, where supposedly level advantages would impact game play. But then they decided to tone it down because it would be unfair to casual gamers. But I thought that's what Crucible was for. The last patch made the last boss in the raid harder to defeat. The developers would prefer random variables for that encounter, instead of deliberate coordination between the fireteam members. Thus changing the overall dynamic of that boss fight that we have all been accustomed to for the last 6 weeks. All in all, I personally feel like the game was under-developed at launch, and the developers are constantly tweaking the game play in a negative way. Their 10 year plan for Destiny, might not include many of their current players should the game and it's direction continue on this downward spiral. Expand

Grinding and repetitiveness is not uncommon in this game, but it is addicting. A lot of retextures are found in weapons, armors, and ships. For a project with such a large budget and funding you would expect more creativity and uniqueness.

The graphics is truly next-gen. PvP is fun and balanced. Despite the heavy grind the game is very addicting.

The mechanics are standard for anyone familiar with Halo multiplayer with some twists. Combat is familiar with responsive weapons each with their own feel and super moves that add variation and enjoyment. Movement is easy with a combination of gliding, double jumping, and star wars style speeders. And you have the ability to customize you're guardian with three classes and an array of visual aesthetics. But when you get to the heart of it, aesthetics and visual appeal are what Destiny is all about. It looks good and feels good at first until you realize what's missing. This is highlighted by the ship you fly. You can buy new ships which you can use to... distract yourself from the frequent load screens you'll be experiencing. You also have your choice of weapons to choose from: a 5 round revolver (why would guns evolve to less efficient?), a semi-auto rifle, or a single action rifle. Three distinct main weapon types is all. But wait, there are the special weapons: the overpowered shotgun, an efficient sniper rifle, or the almost useless in multiplayer fusion rifle. Plus a rocket launcher or machine gun for a heavy weapon. You cannot customize these, merely unlock perks already loaded to certain weapons, so if you like the way a low level weapon's scope felt, it may take a while to get that feeling again. There are a few multiplayer modes but only and handful of stages and no character progression. To be accurate, your multiplayer character is the same as your single player character. You do get multiplayer specific marks to buy high level gear but there are definitely a limited number of sets and high level players begin to look very similar. Get a good shotgun and you can easily dominate or you'll find yourself waiting by the heavy ammo spawn because they always drop at the same locations. When you do well in multiplayer you may not be rewarded with a drop. The rewards are based on how often you play, not necessarily how well. As far as the single player story, Peter Dinklage is the highlight and even he can tend to drone on (pun intended). The missions are highly repetitive. For one, you start are the same points depending on the world you're on. You use your speeder to fly back to familiar spots, crawl through a cave filled with the same enemies throughout the rest of the world you're on, then mow down wave after wave (and sometimes a giant boss with a longer life bar) while your Ghost phases into objects to download the next file to explain something that doesn't make complete sense unless you go to Bungie's website to read the extensive lore. To be fair, the lore IS extensive, but presented in such a passive manner that it's largely unappreciated. It highlights how awkwardly the story is presented. You're highly customized guardian is largely silent and always emotionless. His or her story is fairly mundane for a game called Destiny. Lastly, the most egregious error is that Destiny is released as a game that's DLC maintained. The game wasn't complete at the time of release or even adequately tested. There's story content promised for a subscription fee and multiplayer content, weapons, and drops are all still being adjusted and nerfed. Wanting to adjust mechanics and gameplay to improve the experience is one thing, but Destiny's creators seem to lack a clear endgame (again pun intended). The events are admirable attempts to keep people playing mirrored after ME3's multiplayer challenges. Unfortunately, rewards require hours of participation to yield significant rewards and the replay value is lower than COD or BF because multiplayer lacks customization or valuable rewards. It's an attempt to mix the Halo multiplayer experience with that of other first person shooters that results a moderately enjoyable, unmemorable, and fairly unrewarding experience. At level 28 (of 30) with the campaign finished, most of the group raids run, and hours of multiplayer are under my belt, I'm profoundly disappointed with this new IP. Many are defending Destiny by saying it's going to get better or more content is coming or it's unfair to give a bad score because it's not finished. I think it's only right to give Destiny a score for what it is and not what it can be or what we or Bungie want it to be. Expand

Ill just go in order of whats best to worst:
Gameplay: extremely solid and fluid movement that fits expectations of what people call "Next-Gen"

Graphics: Again, the most gorgeous game out there save Ground Zeroes or maybe that new LOTR game, but mostly just once more an excellent example of what people purchased a PS4 or xbone for.

Atmosphere: I still love the story and lore behind the traveler, speaker, and enemies that attack you. It makes sense; to me the story is actually reminiscent to Lord Genome's job in Gurren Lagann; the traveler provided humans with too much power that would make them evolve and expand too fast. Overall, the atmosphere and lore set up is excellent, Id be okay with spin-off games that expand on the story because:

Story: In comparison to this universe they set up it is awful, I wont spoil anything but there isnt much to spoil. You wont find out much about the traveler and you wont feel any closer to stopping the enemies, well I suppose you stop one group of enemies in a mediocre final mission. Oh and dont get me started on how every mission requires 3 deploying of your ghost; objectives feel pointless.

RPG elements: Some cool things here but nothing that got me really excited to hit max level like I thought I would be.

MMO elements: They mash in nearly every thing that a basic mmo has, rep grinding, gear level, raids, dailies, and so forth. But they do all of these in such tiny and insignificant ways it becomes annoying for the audience present. People who play and want to play destiny are mostly among the same crowd that love shooters and rpgs, it brings them together but mmo players will be disappointed and shooter fans annoyed.

Multiplayer: yup this is down there. I could go into vivid detail about so much, but here Ill keep it short:
    1. The guns that you get through playing the game are almost all identical, save some legendaries. It seems that there are soo many different guns and possibilities but when it comes down to the multiplayer there really is only one per class because they all feel the same, and I have played a good deal of multiplayer. There is also huge balance issues leaving the auto rifle and shotgun the two best weapons for the "crucible" as they call it.
    2. The game modes are un-inspired and not very interesting at all, you have TDM, FFA, headquarters, and control which is the only new thing theyve brought to multiplayer, and is just tdm/domination.
    3. The maps are pretty, but mostly just close quarters messes that get agitating fast, but that is mostly opinionated.
    4. The announcer is FANTASTIC, give him some more lines.

    Last but least: Strikes/pve
The strikes are uninspired time wasters that are only fun the first time once you realize you are just unloading ammo into some big-health-instakill-machine for every single strike, sometimes even twice a strike. Some bosses like this are okay, but they all are like that. The only interesting strike is actually the raid, so you have to have the best gear to fight the most entertaining fight in the game. Outside of strikes it is rep grinding which I dont want to go into how boring that can be.

Overall, Destiny is getting a 6/10: With such fluid movement, atmosphere, and graphics, I really feel like I shouldnt already want to sell this game, but everything else is just not appealing after logging another 10+ hours into it.

Destiny is a game with so much potential, yet it falls well short of the latest gen's "killer app".

Starting with the positives, of which there are quite a few:

MUSIC - The shining achievement of this game, the music that plays during fight sequences is EPIC. It sets the tone well, and is reminiscent of both HL (in terms of timing) and Halo (grand scale). For this game, they could not have done better here.

CORE GAMEPLAY - Bungie borrowed quite a bit of the feel of Halo, but the gunplay and fighting is excellent for a console shooter. Added elements such as jumping and supers add another dynamic to the combat, and all of this forms a rock-solid foundation to Destiny.

ART DIRECTION - The visuals and vistas are stunning, and go a long way to showcase the PS4's graphical ability. Destiny is a beautiful game to look at. Take a look around when you explore areas like the moon and you'll see great attention to detail: looking back at the Earth shows that it is rotating slowly, the International Space Station is able to be seen in the sky above, and it simply LOOKS like the moon.

NETWORK STABILITY - I feel that I should mention this because Destiny is a server-side game. Since launch, I have had almost ZERO problems with lag or downtime due to server volume. For a game that moved as many copies on day 1 that Destiny did, Bungie has done a terrific job at keeping things running smoothly. Other games (looking at you Diablo 3) can only dream of such a smooth launch day/week.

CLASSES - I've played all 3, and each have there own distinct feel and style. The balance between the classes in multiplayer is great: a Titan can do just as well as a Bladedancer Hunter in the Crucible. Each class has a subclass (for a total of 6 subclasses/skill trees), and I've enjoyed all of them.

By now, most of the gaming public knows what went into the development of this game. Massive hype, a developer with a sterling reputation, and a half-a-billion dollar budget. What was released though fell FAR short of what was promised...

STORY - There is almost no story to Destiny. You get revived by Dinkleberry, handed a gun, and told to fight the "darkness" because they are bad and they destroyed Earth. That is the extent of the Destiny story there and I'm not leaving much out. Characters will literally tell you that there were "massive battles and dark times" and then they'll go on to say "they don't have time to explain those things to you". Bear in mind that you could complete the entire story in a day or less, there was plenty of time to explain everything (or anything) to the player.

MISSION DESIGN - Here is every story mission in Destiny: go to this checkpoint, scan something, kill things, repeat that a few times, end mission. Every Strike mission (the dungeons of Destiny) is equally the same with no tactics to the bosses other than shoot-run-shoot-run. All bosses are basically bullet sponges...the only thing that changes with difficulty is how absorbent the sponge is.

POOR LOOT DESIGN - The Cyptarch is the faction in the tower that identifies items for you...but that ID process is completely governed by RNG. I have identified over TWENTY (yes, I'm counting) purple engrams, and from that I have gotten one Exotic item and the rest of them have been blues. At the end of the Strikes, the bosses don't drop loot. You instead have to wait until an "after mission report" where you will usually get just one item that will be well below the level of the strike. It is more efficient to shoot enemies that respawn in a cave on Earth than any other method in the game.

SCOPE - Simply put, this game feels small and compact. The main hub has just three small areas, and you won't see more than 10-20 other players around at one time. Exploration by doing the Patrol missions further highlights just how small this game feels compared to other MMO's...or just other shooters like this game (Borderlands). As mentioned above, the game looks phenomenal, but it's not very big and there is almost no incentive to explore any of it.

DLC-CENTRIC: Activision has done it again: they've taken a franchise with such promise and ruined it. Take a look at the E3 videos and videos during the development of this game. You'll see story. You'll see diverse mission structure. You'll see players talking to each other in-game. This game was gutted and re-structured to sell us DLC, which is something we've seen from DAY ONE. There's already some 20 or 30something dollar expansion "coming soon". Give us a full game.

I have a tough time giving such a poor review, because at it's core this game has such great potential. With patching, so many of these issues could be fixed...but I just have this feeling that we're going to have to pay via DLC for the game Destiny should have been.

FINAL SCORE - SIX OUT OF TEN

For the first 15 hours or so I would have probably rated this game at 9 but after that the repetitive nature of the game really kicks in and drags the rating right down. The combat in the game is fun but once you have killed 3000 odd enemies it really just blurs in to one long grind. The strike bosses are insanely boring after you have killed them 20 times and I find myself struggling to stay interested after firing 2000 bullets in to their head or stomach. the game gets pretty intense when you are the last guardian left but that's only because you REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to have to go through another 10 minutes on firing guns at a bullet sponge.

I've yet to experience the raids which may be really exciting but getting the gear to do the raid is just way too painful and boring. I have little faith that they will be anything but firing 10000 bullets at some big fat slow enemy.

The crucible...well if you like trading one shots with shotguns or super powers then the game is definitely for you. Personally I grew tired of this type of gameplay back in the Unreal Tournament days.

The storyline isn't that memorable, to be honest I can't really remember what it was about and I only just played it last week. Something about Tyrion hacking random computers in various places, you would think with all the hacking he does he would be bloody quicker about it. Insert waves of random mobs while he hacks something over and over plus a miniboss and you have nearly every mission in the game. There's also some big floating planet which doesn't seem to have much impact on your experience but he's important supposedly.

The loot is probably the biggest disappointment for me in this game. Currently with all gear at level 20 there hasn't been much excitement at potential upgrades. I have found 4 legendary engrams so far and all 4 produced a Mote of Light, seriously, wtf do I even want these for? The next round tier of upgrades just involves a massive rep and token grind which wouldn't be so bad if the game was actually interesting.

If you want a casual shooter for a bit of fun before moving on to the next game then this is worth it if you have the cash to waste. If your after an MMO or game to tide you over until the next big release, keep looking.

The setting itself is actually fairly well designed, but the potential of the Universe they've created only multiplies the frustration that they've done nothing useful with it. Enemy designs in particular are interesting but soon get old and more difficult enemies consist of the same tired old designs with a yellow health bar or minor skin altercations to create bosses. The four planets are well detailed and each feels very distinct. The class system in Destiny is where this game excels, the breadth of variety offered throughout the classes and subclasses allows the player to experiment and is the only part of the game which provides a genuine motivation to keep playing the same bland missions over and over again. Bungie were once the Kings of competitive multiplayer on consoles and I'm sad to say they've well and truly forfeited that crown; Crucible is nothing short of a shambles. It's hard to know where to begin when critiquing it. I'll start with balance, or should I say the lack of it. While constantly in a state of flux from patches it's safe to say from release up until this point the balance in the Crucible has been appalling. Early offenders included the Blade Dancer ability which effectively turned you into a teleporting nigh unstoppable living lightsaber, this is one of the few problems which Bungie have managed to fix. The crowning achievement however among dozens of examples I could use was the Vex Mythoclast, the most unintentionally overpowered weapon I've ever seen in a competitive multiplayer first-person shooter all the way back to Goldeneye. The map designs aren't awful but many of them feed into a larger problem which Bungie have been unable to address; that shotguns are too powerful and easy to use. Allow me to explain, despite two attempts to nerf the shotguns at release and recently with a range reduction shotguns still manage to dominate the Crucible with players opting to almost solely use this class of weapon. They effectively work similarly to the shotgun found in the Halo games and in theory that should work, however this isn't Halo. The constant ability to sprint combined with several abilities such as blink that makes it much easier to close down your opponent without them having the opportunity to defend themselves make the shotguns undoubtedly broken. The entire premise of shotguns in multiplayer is that they're deadly in close range but the time it takes to close down your target gives the other player the opportunity to defend themselves. Destiny doesn't give the other player adequate opportunity to defend themselves and this is inherently the problem with shotguns. Now to get back to the maps, the reason the maps aid this is due to the amount of cover and obstacles that make killing an opponent from range significantly more difficult. With maximised recovery it is far too easy to escape any battle which isn't going your way and have another bite of the cherry a mere few seconds later once you are back to full health. The inherent verticality of some maps and the density of cover such as on Twilight gap combined with abilities such as Blink make escaping any time you come under fire far too easy. Players should be punished for making tactical mistakes and leaving themselves exposed but this is rarely the case in Destiny and it is one of the most forgiving competitive shooters I've ever played. The most clear cut and easy criticisms to make of the Crucible that require no significant amount of playtime to get to grips with is the lack of game modes. Four game modes is embarrassingly shallow for any game, especially one focused so heavily on multiplayer aspects of the game. To top it all off they add a fifth game mode every so often called Salvage as a special treat which feels more like a patronising and harsh slap in the face. Even with so many complaints Destiny's ultimate failure is that a game that revolved around the idea of bringing players together has such a barren set of social features. Clans are limited to one hundred members and there is absolutely no way to organise with your clan in game. Instead you must organise your clan from Bungie's own website, that in itself isn't too bad but the inability to even see your clanmates in a list in-game is unforgivable. The much touted Tower is also nothing more than a glorified dance floor where social interaction is limited to waving and kicking a ball around. While I wish I could talk more about this games many flaws and indeed it's positives I have run out of characters, as a parting note I'll simply say that the enjoyment will come from playing with friends rather than any intelligent game design. I dont see how this is next gen, its a copy of Warframe, a very bad one. So much grind so little diversity and it brings absolutely nothing new. Just shows that you should never ever pre order games, thought I learned that long ago, but damm I got fooled again.

Good: Graphically this is one of the best games of 2014, the handling of combat and movement is excellent.

Bad: There is almost zero story and only the most hard driven Bungie backers hail the story mode or grimoire content. Ugly: Little match making, very little replay value and after a month of playing its pretty evident that Bungie really dropped the ball on the mission system.

Yes there are the Grimoire but who reads it? Who ever made the decision to make it out of game was an idiot. Did you not play Mass Effect and seen it's Codex? THAT IS HOW YOU DO IT!!! The Speaker does no effort to explain anything just says words that have no sense. Missions have some background for why are you doing them but it's one of two go kill some guy or deffend Dincklebot. There is some customization and the RPG element is ok but it's not enough for a game that claims to be a singleplayer/mmo type game.
Story is short and boring with a lazy ending which screams DLC.
The MMO aspect is also weak. The matchmaking in Crucible is terrible. When I was lvl 10-15 being match against guys lvl 24+ is just stupid. You should be matched with people with a 2-3 lvl difference not higher. No traiding even with friends or with people in your fireteam? The socialhub is not impressive a lot of unused space which looks preaty and does nothing.
After patch the loot/engram drops are better now you have a chance to get something good from an legendary engram.
The gunplay is solid. It's HALO in it's best with HALO looking mobs. You have a lot of fun blowing up and killing stuff. There are not that much different guns but it's ok for now. Hope to see some more weapons in the expanssions or DLC.
The things I enjoy in Destiny are strikes, bountys and the reputation system. This Bungie did well. The Strikes could have been more varied but it's good. You feel the need to grind to get better gear, to kill the next mob/boss/ultra. There is great potential in this game. It needs more polish and content.
For now it's a 6 out of 10. Have fun playing it but the game needs more. Bought it new for 34£ and still on the fence if it was worth it or not.

Although the game purports to be social there's no easy way to interact with people you're not already friends with. Social interaction is limited to a few emotes that are lacking in their usability -- wave, point, dance, and sit down. You can't communicate to people who you've not gone out and formed a fire team with, so Pugs are out of the question. Gearing is repetitive and grindy and involves taking a few hours to do all your dailies (which change but are taken from a small pool of tasks), or running around in a circle killing everything while searching for randomly spawning chests.

Online play is fairly fun, although map design doesn't scale well to the larger maps -- which can sometimes turn into large sniper battles. Control is the strongest type of play as it focuses combat by giving teams objectives.

But it's kinda boring now? I've done everything, and it looks like they're not focusing their attention on giving most normal folks new mechanics or content until the expansion. Kind of a shame really, there's a lot of potential in the big lifeless world they've created. It'd probably be way more fun if they opened up communication just a little bit.

Like a good story perhaps, with compelling characters? And there was most likely a story. But it has been ripped out of the game to sell as DLC. Now you might be saying where is your proof? Good question. Look inside the box. You'll find an expansion pass for £30. Need more proof? There are entire levels in the game that exist purely to set up DLC. NO! Apart from the opening cutscene the game never bothers to tell you anything about its universe. There's no explanation of anything! I don't even know the name of my character! I don't know how long he's been dead for! You are given no reason to care! The other worst thing about the game is its strikes. First off, the mission structure is always the same - wait until your robot opens a door, defend him against waves and waves of the same enemies over and over and over. Hell, they couldn't even be bothered to give them new area's, they just ripped them from the campaign. At the end of each strike there's a boss battle, which ends up being an hour long bullet sponge. So your expecting get really cool loot from that right? WRONG! All of the loot is randomly generated, meaning you could defeat the hardest boss in the game, and get crap! However, the game isn't all bad, and had some high quality features. For example the soundtrack is absolutely incredible, and I even died a couple of times because I was paying more attention to it rather than the game. This description can also be applied to the graphics and sound design. Everything is so immersive and beautiful that it's hard not to be impressed. The gunplay is great, with great impact coming from every shot, and the jet packs add a whole new dimension of verticality to firefights. Gameplay wise, the multiplayer PvP is the best aspect, with fast charges of chaos and madness. Destiny is a technical masterpiece, it's just a shame it's gameplay couldn't live up to that. Expand

Destiny is fun. So much fun that you keep playing even though the worlds are empty, there's no plot to grab your attention, and there isn't really anything to do except play the same missions over and over to eventually get better guns and gear.
Overall, it's not a very good game. But if you play with friends, and mostly want to play PvP then it can still be fun.

All in all if I didn't get hooked on the hype train and just happened to pick this game up being completely ignorant of the marketing I would give this game maybe a 7 and say this game should retail at 39.99 since it really is more of just a FPS with grinding missions...don't get me wrong some folks love that...but with all the interviews and videos that were presented leading up to this games release I really thought I was getting something special...something that would rival Mass Effect and Skyrim...sadly I was wrong. If anything this just proves that pre-ordering anything these days truly is a gamble that unfortunately most gamers will end up losing.

It took me about 6 hours to beat the campaign, but you really don't accomplish anything. The game is totally set up to be played at the max level (20) and to grind for gear doing the same quest/boss over and over and over. The idea is to group with friends to be able to complete 'strikes' which basically has you shooting a bullet soak boss for a long stretch of time. Here's the thing. If you don't have friends to play with, it's nearly impossible to get a group. There's no good way of communicating with all the people around you because there's no proximity voice chat. I could go on and on, but I'll spare you. As I said at the top, rent before you buy.

I really want to like Destiny,I really do.I tried to stick with all the things that are unpolished, thinking that at some point it will finally be the game we were promised.
Let's start with the good stuff at first. The game looks beautiful and sounds beautiful.I really like the UI design, which I think is clever in its navigation.I really like the look of gear and weapons.PvP is fun,as expected from the guys who made Halo.Combat is okay, but nothing new. That's it.That's all I can say about being good points of Destiny.
Now let's look at the bad stuff....
There is almost no story. There are bits of information here and there, but overall you won't care about it.It could be explained in one sentence:You are a hero so save us,go there, then there, destroy that, you win.
Another thing is the voice acting.Even though it's pretty solid, the character that speaks most,The Ghost,is just bad.
Every mission in this game could be described like this:Go from point A to B,deploy Ghost, guard him against the waves of enemies, kill the boss (if not included in those waves),end of mission. The game feels so repetetive that it feels like they just copy and pasted it.The Strikes were the worst out of them.Strikes could be described as a longer story mission with same objectives, but now with annoying bosses that have just too much HP.You don't even need to think about a stratégy for them, just hide behind something and shoot. There are only 6 strikes at the moment (5 if you play on Xbox platform) and all of them are annoying to do.(Dust Palace, the PS exclusive Strike is so annoying that when people get them in Strike playlist, which is something like a roulette of all strikes, they immidiately leave.)
I finished all story missions and strikes in about 20 hours of gameplay on hard difficulty, which only means that enemies have even more HP and come in bigger hordes. After this it's just bad, only thing you can is repeat the story missions and strikes,or do PvP if you like doing it.
That brings me to another really bad thing, the servers.I expected this somewhat, because this is a problem that all always-online games have. You get kicked out of the game a lot.My friend got kicked out of the last story mission seconds before it ended, which means he had to do it again from the begining of the mission.(We did it on very hard,so it was really annoying).
Another issue I have is that the loading are really long. You have to load pretty much everything and it takes a minute or more in every instance.(it's really irritating when you just want to quickly go to Tower and then go on a mission)
Now let's talk about PvP.This is the best part of the game,as it's really fun to play and I spent most of my endgame time last week playing Control and Rumble.Only issue I had was that because of bad servers, there is a big lag. Most of the time my meelee killed my opponent after he killed me,even though he should have died before me.Sometimes it isn't even recognised and even though I hit them,it does no damage and I die because of that.Hopefully this will be fixed, other than that the PvP is fun.
The social aspects of this game are awful. You can't communicate with other players if they are not in your fireteam and you only have four emotes you can use.The proximity chat would be really nice, but I guess we can't have everything...
And now for the most annoying thing in whole Destiny experience, the loot systém.It sucks,it's just bad.You could be playing a story mission for level 2 or doing heroic strike for lvl 20+ and you have about the same chance a good item will drop. And when something good finally drops, you have to take it to Cryptarch on Tower to decrypt it.The only problem is that even if you have a legendary engram, you will get really bad stuff most of the time.Is there any other option to gear up?Yes,there is,but with the problem being you have to farm reputation for hours and hours and hours on those repetetive missions you already completed. The entire endgame is just a big farming session that will annoy almost everyone (I play a lot of jRPGs,so trust me,I don't mind grinding or farming as long as I see some progression, but this is worse than in any game I ever played).
Other small thing that annoyed me are the facts that there is no map system it the game,no trading with other players,no selling of things. But these are just minor things that are not that bad, even though it's a pain in the ass without a map or without an option to give your buddy a weapon of the type you don't use but he does.
So this is Destiny as I see it.You can see laziness of Bungie everywhere except the graphics and music. The PvP is fun,but lags a lot.PvE is horrible, with only few things to do and ridiculous farming it requires once you hit lvl 20.It's really sad to see this, because this game could have been the best Sci-fi game ever.

Hype, hype, more hype, TOO MUCH HYPE! This seems to be a more common theme among games these days. E3 comes along, critics, journalists and gamers around the world go mad about what little content they have been shown of these games and proclaim "future game of the year", "best game at the show" etc etc. Then, when the game finally hits the stores and everyone has had some time playing it,Hype, hype, more hype, TOO MUCH HYPE! This seems to be a more common theme among games these days. E3 comes along, critics, journalists and gamers around the world go mad about what little content they have been shown of these games and proclaim "future game of the year", "best game at the show" etc etc. Then, when the game finally hits the stores and everyone has had some time playing it, they wonder what the fuss was about, myself included.

Now it might seem like I am being overly cynical about Destiny, but I was one of the previously mentioned gamers who bought into the hype and could not wait for this game to come out. September seemed like it was never going to come. My first few hours with Destiny were good. The worlds are excellently crafted, there has obviously been a lot of time and effort that has been put into making each planet feel unique and the graphics in general are wonderful. The lighting is a true highlight, while each environment is extremely colourful and pretty to look at. The high quality of design carries over to the gear and weapons. While there may not be that many unique models, everything is futuristic and appealing. The planets themselves, however, feel empty. There is no real reason to explore the environments bar the few loot chests scattered around which, if you ask me, usually aren't worth your time. You seem to travel all around these gorgeous worlds with not a lot to do until you hit the next pack of enemies. A lot of the time when playing this game I would think to myself, "Where did the $300m actually go?". Destiny does not feel like the most expensive game of all time, when in fact it is.

The missions are good to begin with, but within a few hours you realise, "I'm doing the same stuff again and again just in different places". Destiny can become extremely repetitive extremely quickly. The story is completely meaningless and not interesting at all, so it's not as if you are just hoping to finally get somewhere and for the grind to have meant something, because sadly it does not. If you don't mind doing the same **** but on different days in order to get the best loot then you will not have an issue, but I require that something extra, that reason to carry on, I want a game to make me relish turning on my PS4 to play it, and I'm not sure Destiny will have that appeal in the long run.

The main selling point of Destiny is its combat. It is superb. Enemies are intelligent, they search actively for cover, they make you move around the map to try and get at them, and in a lot of instances they can be quite tough. You have to be careful when going for an attack, you can't just charge in like a bull in a china shop, there is some strategy to planning your next move. It is also very fast paced so you need to be on your toes when engaging the enemy. The enemies themselves are well thought out, they each have their own weak point and have various sizes and degrees of toughness about them. After level 15 you will have seen it all to be honest. Boss battles are a bit of a let down. They are simply just bullet sponges who take a massive, almost exhausting amount of time to kill and usually the loot isn't really worth it (until you can do the raids at high level that is).

I haven't spent enough time on the PvP to give a fair critique about it, but so far it seemed pretty fun, if a little unbalanced.

Overall, I think it is unfair to say that Destiny is a bad game, because it isn't. It's just not as good as we all hoped. There is room for improvement (Peter Dinklage could at least pretend to be interested if he is voice-acting in the next one) and I believe that Destiny 2 could be fantastic. Lets just all try not to hype it up too much OK?

    =============

I expected more from fathers of epic Halo franchise. Destiny fails to introduce its great universe to player. Storyline is really poorly narrated. Gameplay-wise, game is addictive, but aside from farming to obtain legendary loot, there's nothing to keep me playing. Overall, story mode feels like introduction before main events in game world, disk 1 out of 4, like back in FFVIII times))) But unfortunately there's no disks 2,3 and 4. I think dev team wasted potential of this great universe they created.

A pretty fun and imaginative game that keeps the gamer busy. I enjoyed the game quite a lot but it has its issues.

My first big issue is this game should be an MMO, Bungie why? This would be a 10 star review it was!!!

Another issue is enemy spawning. Kill a swarm of enemy's walk back a few spaces. Poof they have respawned.

I will update this review when the game gets a major update!

this game misses a lot, on one hand you will get a rush from defeating bosses (especially when they killed you more than once) ,new items and gear do feel different and the PVP is stellar, but on the other hand, this game tells little to no story (the grimoire lore could have been fitted in the same way mass effect did it) , there is no trading system so any equipment you find that is notthis game misses a lot, on one hand you will get a rush from defeating bosses (especially when they killed you more than once) ,new items and gear do feel different and the PVP is stellar, but on the other hand, this game tells little to no story (the grimoire lore could have been fitted in the same way mass effect did it) , there is no trading system so any equipment you find that is not compatible with your class is worthless (even if it legendary), and to be honest i felt like giving this game a zero out of ten when i learned that it had "expansion packs" that are definitely cut from the existing game, as mentioned before the story lacks a lot and gives less than minimal details, the areas (while gorgeous) are reused way too often and there are only two or so cut scenes that introduce anything new to the game.

good game, but not worth more than 5 IMHO.

The shooting feels very halo so naturally the shooting in Destiny is going to feel very samey but good at the same time. I'll take something that feels similar but good rather than something that's different but bad. The multiplayer is good but not perfect because of how noob catered it is. The loot drops are completely random and even when you kill a boss the loot drops are completey randomized. So overall Destiny is a okay game but is extremely over hyped and defiantly is the most over hyped game of this year Expand

    Ok,

Before I star please forgive me for my grammatical errors due to me being on my phone. Now on the my review. I will start all with saying that I have put about 10 hours into Destiny and belive my review is unbiased and fair. I am not a big fan of Bungie and will go ahead and admit that, but I decided to give the game a try anyways. I applaud Bungie for trying to do somthing

I am not a big fan of Bungie and will go ahead and admit that, but I decided to give the game a try anyways. I applaud Bungie for trying to do somthing different, but it seems somthing is lacking. If I had to guess I'd say the world is very bland and exploration is borderline boring. I would also say the AI is fairly dumbed down.. I don't know maybe Fallout and Skyrim has spoiled me, but it seems like Bungie just took Halo and added new characters, and like other reviewers have mentioned the story is lacking. I am sorry, but the fun factor is just not there for me. I am going to give this game a 5. It is fair and down the middle. Some people love this game, but for the average joe gamer I believe you will lose interest quick.

The action, and fighting in this game is amazing. It really is the most fun part of this game. The HUGE lack of story, and the embarrassing repetitiveness are the two biggest downfalls of Destiny. If the fighting was not great, then this game would have been a total failure. The PvP is amazing. for these two shining lights, I give it a 7

I registered for metacritic specifically to review this game. I played the Alpha and the Beta. I never dreamed, at that point, that the scope of the initial release content would be so limited. This is accurate, as there is nothing "massive" about the world. The PvE content is highly repetitive, with your character's advancement dependent on repeating the same tasks ad nauseum with little or no reward. The PvP is likewise limited in scope, with only four game modes, and another variable game mode that changes occasionally. Furthermore, in order to play all 10 maps you need to cycle through these game modes as not all modes occur in all maps.

In all, this is not the game that was promised, not by a long shot. Even if the game improves significantly with the DLC and numerous confounding updates, there is no excuse for the lack of content at launch. I gave this game a 5 because that's what it is, half a game.

Destiny is not what was advertised. The E3 "Gameplay" video contains many features not shipped on launch. I have high hopes for Destiny in the future with DLC and updates but it feels as if the game was rushed to meet a deadline and delivered a hollow repetitive product and world. Another year of development would likely have done wonders for Bungie's total advertised vision.

Game progress the initial long, but I enjoyed until about Lv20. It is a pity that is has become a monotonous game of thereafter. Also, to change the difference is later so would with fine race in the first it is troublesome. Subtitles in multiple languages and animation has become in pretty decent I wanted to improve.

oh Bungie. Where is the story, seriously. From the makers of the heavily story driven halo. Look I know that you were making this game re-playable but 3 cut scenes in the entire game. Absolutely disappointing. While the game is pretty and the mechanics are good, those are the only two good things about this game. For being such a social game, the social aspect of it is terrible, most people are forced to find people online through forums to play with for the game modes that don't support matchmaking. Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
