Gonna make this quick. Destiny is awesome. It's really really fun and I love the customization and weapons/powers. That said, I have no idea what is going on or why I am doing the things I'm doing in the story. Still having a ton of fun protecting earth or something. The PvP maps are great so far, though I wish there were more. The world does feel completely dead and desolate (it's supposed to?) and there is a fair bit of revisiting the same places. I wish this were MORE open world because I can see places I want to go, but can't get there.
I also love being able to run into players during my campaign. LOVE IT. So fun especially during hard missions. I'm having a ton of fun so far and will be playing this for a long time despite the nitpicks. Buy it, have fun and then sell it if you want, but you should play it.

I can't give anything less than an 8 to a game I am enjoying so much. Firstly, I'd like to acknowledge that the game is supposed to be supported for a long cycle and therefore still has a lot of growing to do. With that said thus far I really love the gameplay, the loot aspects, the rpg elements, the world-building and the customisation.

However, I am finding a lack of story. If you actually take the time to get the companion app and read the Grimoire cards then it all gets fleshed out a lot, which did make me wonder why all of this content was not put to greater use throughout the "story" aspect of the game.

I have found that I have really been drawn to the competitive and co-op aspects of the game to such a degree that I actually dislike doing anything alone, which sounds bad but as someone who usually insists on playing alone, this is an indication of just how fun Bungie has made playing Destiny with others.

I am really interested to see how they build on this fun and solid foundation in the coming few months and maybe years. I just hope they can bring the story to life a little more so I can really care about the characters and the world.

The online aspects really shine through for me. I love playing with others on strike missions and these missions are seriously tough which is really refreshing. The Crucible has also been great fun for me and really gets the adrenaline pumping. I am very new to the PvP area though and I appreciate that the character I play without outside the Crucible - with his guns and skills - is the same one I take into each fight.

This means I don't have to fiddle with loadouts and what not and I can see what works and what doesn't and what I need to practice outside of the Crucible. I can also see what guns people own me with and try and get my hands on those bad boys.

    So all in all:
    - the game is really beautiful and probably the best world I have seen brought to life in a game (on Ps4 at least);
    - the gameplay is really fun and the game systems (loot, co-op, PvP) have kept me addicted;
    - difficulty wise the game is a real challenge and can be as much or as little challenge as needed;
    - the story is fairly disappointing.

I would definitely recommend. We may all get to see how a gaming world grows over a span of years, which would be truly groundbreaking stuff.

    Is Destiny Fun? Yes
Is Destiny the recreation of Halo changing the Gaming world as we know it? Nope
Is it worth my 60? I think so.

It is a solid shooter that brings many good hours of game play with friends and mixes it up the FPS which are out there for PS4. It is Enjoyible, not perfect but worth the cost of the entry.

Bungie made a great effort with delivering a technical scaffolding. The story elements could have been much more. I'm pretty sure a Grimoire is a witches spell book. I found a soccer ball on the tower level. Thinking about that makes me wonder about how hard it would have been to enable a conversation system similar to Elders' Scrolls.

Most of the game's functions are confusing. I leveled up one of the factions to level 2 without realizing it. I actual had no clue how to obtain the various currency without internet research. By the way you can't trade anything. You can't see anything. You can only dismantle things. You can't dismantle extra space ships or jet bikes. There are no weapons on the ships or bikes.

Hopefully they develop more content. I think they lost the mantle but we'll see in 2015.

I have logged over 350+ hours in this game and know every single short cut, cheese, multiplayer map, strike mode, character, everything there is to know about this game. I was captivated for a very long time in becoming the best out of everybody on my friends list and I achieved that with my two level 30 Warlocks. Yes, the story does suck which is why I'm giving it an 8 instead of a 10, but the gameplay is amazing. The raids, especially on hard mode, are very entertaining and require as much skill and team work as possible. It's sad to see so many bad reviews for such a damn incredible game.

The multiplayer is phenomenal. It is just simply incredible. One of the best console multiplayers I have ever played. Bungie did a great job with the maps and balancing out skills, characters, and levels so that everybody has a chance to compete.

After acquiring almost every exotic in the game I have finally weened off of Destiny and starting venturing out to play other games. I still think I am going to come back for the expansion pack, though, because I don't think I have ever been so attached to a game in my life. The communication with other players is wonderful and I have met a lot of good friends through Destiny.

If the story mode was better this would easily be an 11/10, but as for now I stand with my rating: 8/10

The game has 28 missions which take a while to beat and then you'll want to beat again with a better challenge and to get more loot. Compare that to another shooter like Metro that get's review scores of 8-8.5 from users and critics and it really makes the game look bad even though a game like Metro has less content when you think about because it's just missions. Sure the story isn't great either but does story really matter in a game these days? When was the last time you really cared about story when playing a shooter MMO? Most people just go in for the side quests or progress so they can get better bosses to get better loot off of them. People came in with to many expectations for it. So by no means is it a bad and it doesn't deserve a bad score. It's a great game that you can either enjoy or not like. I've had a recent experience like this with GTA Online. Everyone loves it but my experience is a 5-6/10 but it really isn't 5-6. It's great and deserves 8. I'm gonna stop ranting now and give my actual thoughts about the game. If you couldn't tell I've been enjoying it a lot. Teaming up with friends in a video game hasn't been this fun for since Black Ops 1 Zombies for me. Unfortunately I can't say the same for those who don't have friends which unfortunately is a lot of people and I know because I tried playing by myself. I felt like missions just became a bit to challenging and not in a good way. It could boring and frustrating at some points. Difficulty level should change if playing solo or playing with friends. Also like I said the story really isn't to good. It feels like there isn't any at all. It felt like a chapter of something bigger and it didn't even feel like there was a protagonist. There were just bosses you could take it. At some point you may think "Why am I fighting these guys? What did they do to me?" The enemy has no character which is a big problem. However I still found the missions to be fun. I enjoyed the strike missions a lot but I do feel like they could have added more also give out more rewards for doing them. The reward system in my opinion isn't so great. You could go through a strike or mission and get no engrams and rare loot that is below your level and you'll just ask yourself "What was the point of that?" The reward system is especially terrible in crucible. You could be the best player on your team and those under you will get legendary loot. It's flat out unfair and annoying. However that doesn't mean it isn't fun. Crucible is one of the most fun modes in the game and plays a big role when getting faction legendary gear which you may be better off with than trying to get legendary engrams. So to conclude the review Destiny is not as bad as people say it is. It can be annoying yes and maybe not enjoyable but the game play is very fun and addicting and you can spend hours upon hours on it and in the end of the day how you enjoy a game could make it not matter if the story is bad or short. If you have fun then it's a good game. Expand

Destiny has it's hooks in me. It's a short storyline, and a grind for gear after that (which is not a bad thing). Think Borderlands/ Diablo 3. Solid game-play mechanics makes it a competitive, skill based shooter. Destiny would rank among the greats of all time if it hadn't fell short on some major themes. First, and foremost- communication. It's absolutely ridiculous you cannot voice chat with the Guardians around you. I often feel alone, even when surrounded by others. Second, the story line is sub-par at best. Stereotypical writing, and no major surprises along the way. I'm currently level 20, and I still have no idea what I am, who I am, and why I'm doing what I'm doing. I want to have some emotional reactions to characters, but it just never meets the mark. Third, and my final complaint is the repetitive nature of the mission. Ghost scans something, you fight off hordes. However, these are things that can easily be fixed in future updates, and i look forward to that happening. This is by far the best console game of the next generation. Had Bungie implemented a legit chat system, this game would have been a solid 9.5. However, it's enjoyable as it's stands and I've gotten my 60 dollars worth in the first 3 days alone. Looking forward to future content updates. Expand

You have to know what you're getting involved in before making a purchase and then whining because it wasnt what you thought. This game is very ambitious and given about 2 years will be quite a fun game due to patches and various updates. The graphics are on par with old gen style Borderlands which isnt a bad thing. The story is eh, but give it time, Bungie is just getting our feet wet. The gameplay is where Destiny shines. Fun and challenging strikes, raids, and pvp will easily keep this game afloat even with the thousands of people trying to pull it down. Sadly there is no chat box option to communicate, which is ridiculous. Every game from now on needs to have a world chat regardless of the game. And where is the voice chatting when matched with randoms? The things they left out of this game are mindless, stupid errors. But they are fixable issues though. Which is Destiny's issue at this point. Mindless errors are randomly plagued all over Destiny's landscape, but in time this will easily be one of the most enjoyable games of 2015. Expand

After having over 20 hours in destiny, i can safely say that it is a really good game, the gameplay is very refined, the story may not be very good and it was definitely overhyped. My main complaints with the game include the lackluster story, the annoying item system and the strange amor light system. i think it is worth the purchase if you like either halo or borderlands.

It's a fun, entertaining experience with enough content to keep you interested for a long amount of time. Those looking for the next big change in gaming history like some people were honestly expecting should look elsewhere.
In Destiny, you're basically a "Guardian" that's tasked with defending the world against the enemies of the "Traveller," a planet that arrived and bought prosperity to the human race or something like that. The darkness arrived and basically destroyed everything, and you are there with your trusty Ghost to save what's left. The story is quite underwhelming and poorly explained. Other than Peter Dinklage's good voice acting telling you "See this place? It used to be awesome...shame..." you really get little explanation as to what happened and why you should care.
The overall presentation is good, with shiny visuals and great music. There aren't that many locations at launch, but each location is full of stuff to do. There's a good attention to detail here, and it feels like a very polished experience.
The gameplay is loot-driven as you constantly get new weapons and gear and swap out to see which ones you like. Enemies level up as you do and you'll need to use your abilities to survive. The game is challenging at points, but the gunplay is smooth and the enemies are varied in different locations. Upgrading my character with new gear and abilities was very engaging, particularly when the character creation made me able to create a pretty accurate (but more badass) version of myself. The overall game makes you feel like a badass when you're playing it, so if you want that then this is for you.
The online multiplayer is descent enough, though nothing that interesting in my opinion. It's from the creators of Halo so if that's what you'll like then that's what you'll get. The idea of weapons you've found from your adventures being used in PvP sounds good, but it makes it really unbalanced at points. It's not bad as I'm having a lot of fun with it, it's just not that amazing or revolutionary.
Being only 30FPS, it's a surprisingly smooth, game, and the controls are descent and make sense. I have yet to run into any glitches either and, whenever I die, I feel it's because of me and not because I feel cheated by the game. You know that feeling. Even in multiplayer, it passes the blame more onto that guy with the OP weapon way better than mine than the game itself.
Like I had said, though, the game is very fun and above all else that is what should matter. It plays well, it has enough content to last a while from launch and the customisation is in-depth and engaging. I've been having great fun playing the game and can't wait to play more. If fun is what you're looking for, then this is the game for you. If you're looking for "more than a game" or all these other BS taglines that have been associated with this product then you will be disappointed. It's a fun and engaging game, no more and no less.

The game suffers from the lack of communication with players, and the AI are ok but not great.

Despite the mixed reviews if you get the game you need to be open minded and not expect the game to feel familiar like many of the other FPS games you have played. It is a next generation shooter that offers lots of content. It does have a grinding aspect to it which is not common in console shooters but if you manage to get yourself past that it is a fresh next generation experience.

Now I know not everyones experience may have been as smooth as mine but the majority of people had no issues and best part, no server crashs at launch so all the haters actually got to play before hating right away. One of my biggest gripes in todays games is developers releasing games full of problems and yet some people want to make excuses for them(i.e. BF4) but Destiny works well and the shooting mechanics works beautifully.

The reason I didn't give it a 9 or higher was because, yes it does get kind of bland. They put in parts of halo, borderlands. MMO aspect, and multiplayer but each thing seems to be missing some features that would have made this game really stand out. Doesn't mean the game isn't fun and most of the complaints have been from people that I guess weren't expecting to shoot so many things in FPS but if your actually looking for a FPS game and know what a FPS is, then this game will deliver especially when your playing with friends. Lastly, this game is by far not bad enough to be given a 0 score. The haters giving it a 0 are just that, haters. There's no game that really deserves a 0 and this game is one of them. Bungie has released more content for this game for free in a matter of weeks which shows you that they are working on supporting this game and actually have a plan so that they can release content in a timely manner.

Overall, I think the game is an 8 for the solid gameplay. Yes there are parts that could have had more stuff added to them but in the end if your nitpicking every part of the game then you actually realize how fun it is especially if you go back to buggy games like CoD and BF4 and then come to this then you'll see what I mean.

Meanwhile Destiny is fantastic in some aspects, the gameplays is precise and has it's own identity, so you'll not play "Call of Duty" or "Battlefield" game only with a "different skin", you'll play Destiny with it's own identity, the gameplay is fluid to, the physics are great, even when you jump, as it was in Halo, you have the gravity influence that transmits the feeling of the space, which is great to. The graphics are true next-gen, so gorgeous and so well made that combines perfectly with a well made level design.

Conclusion: Maybe Destiny (as a lot of other games) couldn't reach the level that it was promessing, that's why we see bunch of negative reviews, but it stills a fun and great RPG.

Seriously, the people who gave this game bad scores need some friends to play with. This game is a cross between Halo and Borderlands, with a smidge of MMO thrown in. Thats what it was designed to be, and thats what it delivers.

Regardless, it doesnt warrant a red score just for that.

The problem with these low score reviews is they expect the ever elusive, 100% unique, genre defining MMO theyve been expecting since WoW. That, as usual, means theyll hate on it because it doesnt revolutionize the genre, yet they'll bow down to the next CoD iteration despite the fact its the exact same thing as the CoD before it.

The story mode is some what repetitive but has its moments. The reason why I gave it an 8 and why I am loving it so far is because of the pvp. The pvp is really good and that alone makes it worth 40 quid.

Kill, get a better weapon/equipment, kill, level up and start again... This sums up pretty well what you will find in Destiny.
There are beautiful places to visit, though nothing else but killing to do in them. There's no reward for exploring, you can't talk to other npcs, and the evolution of the special skills of the character is too restricted.

A lot of people complain about the cost of the DLC but if you compare destiny to other MMO's, which it is marketed as, $60 for the game and $35 for the expansions over 7 months equates to paying about 14$ a month. Which is pretty standard for an MMO. Now if you count the 5 or so months until the next expansion, the price gets even lower. As for the negative comments about the game being "Grindy" well yeah it is, and once again it was marketed as an MMO. The problem is most people just want to be handed stuff today, so i guess having to work for it would be disappointing. Finally, the game is not perfect they could use more maps in the multiplayer and more variety in the strikes. My biggest gripe with this game is the fact that almost all of the content in the end game is cheesed. This takes away any challenge and any fun and also contributes to the fact that people say that the game is boring. Expand

Especially since Bungie wants the game to last 4yrs before the next iteration most likely. However, it can be said that due to the MMO elements which is also apart of the storytelling which makes it lighter than even Dark Souls, Destiny falls off the board. So everyone who was expecting a real story wasn't really paying attention. Now whether you should pay 60 for this game is a different story. Truthfully I find myself agreeing that the game feels like 40 in content which is sad. I would be hard pressed to sell the game to a person at 60, but thats what a 500 million marketing budget can do. Anyways the game is at its best played with friends and if you don't have any you might find the game to be extremely boring.

This game is all about expectations going into the game, expect a Dark souls/MMO based story, which means you have to pay attention in order to understand stuff along with checking the forums on the game. Which is one reason fans are upset having expected something along the lines of Halo/MassEffect. Destiny is meant to be more than just story its meant to be MO(multi-online) a game with longevity in the online part rather than story. Personally I blame the advertising. However, the game is worth the time put into it though. It is without a doubt fun but repetitive. If you have 60 to blow then go on ahead especially if you have tons of time on your hands. Otherwise wait for a price drop.

Weak points: Multiplayer is whack until you get up in levels but the best place to do that is in the multiplayer. Character classes can feel overpowered or under-powered in certain techniques. So the matchmaking system should be fixed keeping levels near each other.

Always online feature is probably what ruined the games ability to actually have a story, as such its also annoying to need while you're simply just playing by yourself. Which means you can't play the game, which means you spent 60 on a useless disc if for some reason your internet connection goes down for days at a time.

There are only a few things that i feel they should change. One, they need to allow in game audio settings. Some people don't enjoy hearing music when in a gun fight and some people just would like it turned down a bit. As of right now, if you are using in game chat and are also part of a fire team it is very hard to hear your buddies talking while you are shooting things up. I had to invite him to a party chat so that we could turn the chat up and the game down. Another thing is that it doesn't feel very social. While out in the field it is hard to interact with other people. You can't chat with them if you aren't in a fire team and there is no chat bubble you can use to message them quickly. Most people don't even interact with you, they just walk on by. Just so you know, this game is not very fun playing by yourself. I purposefully waited to find some one doing the same mission as me so i could join them. We ended up going from level 4 to level 10. And we became friends. Once i was partied up is was very fun. There needs to be some way to communicate with everyone playing on the same map as you and also needs to be a way to communicate with everyone in the tower with you. Proximity chat would also be nice. Once this is added it will be very easy to join up with people. There should also be some type of guild that you can join so you can connect with many people. Well because the game is fun to play, and has a lot of potential but is lacking story characters and player chat like in other MMO games. The gameplay is superb, and the graphics are very crisp. Let me just point out. I played the Beta, and Earth is still the same Earth, so if you leave a review you need to play at least till end of Moon to have a credible review as that is when the game starts to get good.

And the weapons feel great. The shooting is fun, and frantic and I appreciate the challenging gameplay. The game is not easy, but gives just enough challenge for an average gamer. I wish maybe a more variety in weapons, but I am sure they will add more variety later. The game is basically a very polished beta at this time. So do not expect much. World of Warcraft didn't even have raids the first year. These guys plan to release a raid pretty soon. People expecting the best game every made will not get it right away. First you gotta level up. Get some good weapons, then hit the end game. That is when the actual fun begins. I hate leveling myself too. I mean who can actually admit they enjoy leveling up? Maybe gearing up, but not grinding. Destiny does have leveling, but not as much as other roleplaying games. They want you to experience the game, without having to level to 60. Think about it.

Also to the people who complain about this game being online only. Welcome to 2014. A lot of things these days require a stable broadband internet connection. Time to get with the times old folks used to playing single player games. The game is meant to feel like a persistent changing world. Don't judge the game by the first 20 hours of playing it and say it is too hard, when you are actually using the starting gear. When you get better gear, the game will get easier, so you will be able to tackle harder missions. All the people say the bosses take a long time to kill, think about it, you are using WOWs equivalent of Greens and Grays. You cannot kill anything with starting gear. You need to get some decent loot first before you can solo stuff.

To all the people complaining about the game not being able to have anyone to play with. I have like 50 people on my PSN friend list and I am incredibly antisocial, most of those people (friends) I met playing other Playstation games like Warframe. So to sum it up, don't complain you cannot make friends, just wave to someone and add them as a friend. You will be surprised how many people will join you on a quest or a strike in Destiny.

The bad side: you can't do raids - which is the most fun part - until you reach at least level 20 or you'll get DESTROYED since you get mixed with people of unequal level or skill. No-Offline - I have only had one disconnect and I think it was because my internet actually went out. Nothing to do with the servers. You can play solo with other people around and based on the open world field, it is better to see people hunting around you. It really makes coordinating a random Fireteam difficult because if you want to join up with someone you meet in game while questing or farming, you need to become PSN friends.

Sound - Using my Wireless Gold Headset, this game sounds terrific.

Gameplay - I would say nothing terribly new but why fix it, if it ain't broken.

Quests - When patrolling, I have found that I can randomly get assigned a quest that is well above my level. I am not sure if this is by design or a mistake, but it can send the game to a crawl. Haven't figured out if I can simply drop these questions so I don't have to run through a zone of bad guys who will one shot me.

Public Events - Incredibly fun but can be a complete butt-hurt episode if not enough people are around.

Those are the things that stick out in my mind. I am sure I will come back and give it a final review way down the road, but for now if you are trying to decide, it is not a Halo remake, it is not a Borderlands Clone, and its not some hybrid. It is a pretty good game worth a pick-up because I guarantee you will put well over 100 hours into this before you realize it.

Destiny is a really good game, but obviously a lot depends on what expectations you brought to the game. Reading through other comments I see some people say "This is the worse MMO ever" and then you'll see a comment that says "I was expecting a great campaign like Halo" and then there are comparisons to the loot variety in Borderlands. Well, Destiny isn't really like any of thoseDestiny is a really good game, but obviously a lot depends on what expectations you brought to the game. Reading through other comments I see some people say "This is the worse MMO ever" and then you'll see a comment that says "I was expecting a great campaign like Halo" and then there are comparisons to the loot variety in Borderlands. Well, Destiny isn't really like any of those things but for me it is a satisfying mix of elements from each of those influences.

The game is satisfying as a shooter. The guns feel good, all the normal types of guns you'd expect are there and most have modification options to further suit them to your own personal tastes. The real draw for shooter fans is likely to be PVP and Destiny does a pretty good job of it, though I would like to see more objective game modes besides Control (Domination for CoD fans). I also think the super abilities sometimes have a tendency to overshadow skilled gun play at times. I think toning the supers back so they aren't insta-kill or adding a playlist that doesn't make use of them might be a welcome change.

The game also borrows many things from the MMO genre as well. There are daily quests, weekly raid lock-outs, factions vendors with required reputation grinds, end-game loot tokens, armor dying, group finder, wearable items to represent a faction and the list goes on. But, this isn't an MMO and if you're primarily looking for a social gaming experience like you find in an MMO, you'll be disappointed.

Finally, there is a loot grind element to this game and while it isn't as varied as games like Diablo 3 or Borderlands who make loot grind their main focus, it is better than I expected. I've liked experimenting with most of the weapons I've found but the armor is completely unexciting. Armor has a defensive value (seems to be dictated only by what slot it goes in and what item level it is), a Light stat and some combination of Intellect, Discipline and Strength. The Light stat is really just a proxy for how good the item is and accumulating higher levels of Light will drive your character's effective level beyond the normal cap of 20. As a hunter the Intellect stat allows me use my super ability more often, Discipline lets me use my grenade more often and Strength lets me use my throwing knife more often. All of these are nice but they aren't exciting choices and they don't really change the way I play at all.

My suggestions on how Destiny could be improved going forward are:
    1) Add more armor stats to make for some more interesting gear choices
    2) Add more competitive-friendly play modes to the Crucible
    3) Keep the new content coming at a good pace

The game has been released on PlayStation 3, XBOX 360, PlayStation 4 and XBOX ONE (And rumors that the game will be released on PC.) Each platform that plays this game has no graphical difference and each platform will run the game at the same frame rate (30 Frames Per Second) but you have to keep in mind that the PlayStation 4 version of this game will have more content for a certain period of time. The exclusive content will come out on the other platforms until the developers release an update adding the content, but it has not been announced how long that will be. Destiny is a 'Sci-Fi' 'First person Shooter' that plays a lot like Borderlands, Halo and Diablo. The story of Destiny is set seven hundred years into the future in a post-apocalyptic setting following a prosperous period of exploration, peace, and technological advancement known as the Golden Age. In a universe where humans have spread out and colonized planets in the Solar System, an event known as "the Collapse" saw the mysterious dissolution of these colonies, the end of the Golden Age, and humanity teetering on the brink of extinction, the only known survivors of the Collapse are those living on Earth, who were saved by "the Traveler," a white, spherical celestial body whose appearance centuries before had enabled humans to reach the stars, the Traveler now hovers above the last safe city on Earth, and its presence allows the Guardians — the defenders of the City — the ability to wield an unknown power, only referred to as "The Light." Upon mankind's first attempt to repopulate and reconstruct after the Collapse, it is discovered that hostile alien races have occupied mankind's former colonies and civilizations and are now encroaching upon the City, the player takes on the role of one such Guardian, and is tasked with reviving the Traveler while investigating and destroying the alien threats before humanity is completely wiped out. (Story according to Destiny's Wikipedia page.) Destiny's narrative is not strong in-game, and feels weak and boring: To understand whats going on in the story, you are going to have to read more into the game, such as reading the Wikipedia page. The game-play feels smooth and fast passed, with you finding a verity of weapons such as: The Auto Rifles, Hand Cannons, Pulse Rifles, Scout Rifles, Fusion Rifles, Shot Guns, Sniper Rifles, Machine Guns and Rocket Launchers. The weapons feel great, and killing enemies, give you a good feeling. The more you use your weapons, you will unlock upgrades for it, to make your weapon stronger. There are also armor pieces, and work very similar to how the weapons do. If there are any problems with game-play, it is how repetitive the game is, the game will get boring after playing a while, but if you play with friends, you will get a better experience and the fun will last longer. There are 3 classes to choose from as well: There are the Hunter, Titan, and Warlock. Hunters: Summon a flaming pistol which disintegrates enemies with Solar Light; Titans: Smash the ground and dissolve nearby enemies in a maelstrom of Arc Light; and Warlock: Hurl an explosive bolt of Void Light at the enemy, disintegrating those caught within its blast. There are also 2 different ways to play: One: Player versus Monster (Campaign), or Player Verses Player (Crucible/Multiplayer) The campaign will take you about 10 hours to beat but has lots of replay value, and Crucible/Multiplayer is a lot of fun for a long time as long as you play with friends. The soundtrack in this game is fantastic, and that's all there is to say about it.

There is a lot more to talk about this game, but in a nutshell: Destiny is a very fun, short, repetitive shooter, that is fun to play with your friends with a great sound track.

It is a little bit more of a loot grinding game than I hoped it would be, but I like that kind of game so it wasn't all bad. My biggest complaint is the hype and unfulfilled promises. The only reason I wouldn't give this a 10 is because of the story which is typical for a shooter. Halo stories were not that good either so I wouldn't expect any more than that. This is game is inteded to play with friends or other people. For the people that are complaining about not having any friends to play with...then thats pretty sad and you should probally go out and make some.

Anyways, the game is great shooter and multiplayer is challanging and similar to Halo but with super powers. The character customization is easy to use and it doesn't take long to hop right in and play. I am currently 10 hours in and loving every bit of it. I may change the rating once I get to the end game but Im currently giving a strong 8. Maybe a 10 to get the User score right. It is just a good game to get lost in. Best shooter on consoles hands down.

They didn't design it for YOU they designed with many game demographics in mind. Granted, there are a lot of confused elements as the game doesn't explain things beyond the 20 cap too well. Combat is repetitive, but it's also the smoothest, most enjoyable combat I've experienced from a FPS. The MMO/RPG elements are fairly light, but trust me, you'll WANT to grind and farm the legendary weapons. Playing around with gear post-level cap has been far more enjoyable than the actual storyline was. Also, speaking of the story's criticism, if you go to Bungie.net, you can read through all your grimoire cards. Much of the lore is found in there. Some cards come with perks and others monitor your in game progress. Quite brilliant, actually. I figure they wanted to appease the COD fanboys by leaving the story out. Anyone with a functioning brain can read up on the lore. More content is coming. This is just the bare bones. Bungie will be spending the next little while fleshing things out, adding more maps, NPCs, crucible and vanguard matches, as well the raids. To those people who are ANGRY that bungie didn't have SPECIFICALLY their preferences in mind during game development, maybe you should pull your head out of your ass and enjoy this game for what it is. Or maybe you should figure out what it is you really want. Maybe you should design your own game and brace yourself for fanboys hating on YOU. Expand

Single Player- The story is somewhat of a back thought in this game , its not very prominent and very story driven, however saying that, the snippets of story you get are quite interesting, about the different races and the fall of mankind etc. The atmosphere is very nice aswell, now the game play, is very reminiscent of Halo and Borderlands, however the loot system is somewhat different from borderlands, i have only played as the warlock class so i can't really say about any other other classes however, the skill trees are varied with a choice of 2 sub classes , and different 'perks'. Gun customization isn't that in depth which is a shame.

Multiplayer- The PVP is my favorite part of this game, i think the 6 v 6 is a good number (others are complaining but i think its a good number with the size of the maps, its very balanced from my experience and the fact that in some of the modes level is abolished and everyone is on an equal footing, i played when i was level 5 and i was playing against level 15's and was able to hold my own which i thought was a very good feature.

Overall it's a very good game, it's not a game changer or the setting a new standard for shooters or anything like that but its a damn good game and i am enjoying it a lot

Bungie has repeatedly called this a share world shooter. It has elements of mmo and other games in it. Don't buy if you're expecting World of Warcraft with guns and an outer space theme.

    Pros:
+ The gameplay is lovely. It's smooth, paced well, and doesn't feel repetitive.
+ The three classes and multiple weapon types all feel different, yet everything seems extremely balanced. That, my friends, is not easy to pull off. Way to go, Bungie!
+ There aren't ten million statistics. It's easy to understand. However, there's enough there for min/maxers to still have fun min/maxing.
    + The graphics are great.
+ The music gives me goosebumps.
+ This game made me like PvE again. The AI is actually fun to fight, unlike the AI in 75%+ of other games.
+ PvP feels engaging. It doesn't feel like a regular shooter, thanks to the class abilities and weapon types. You can also get some cool loot from it! The RNG aspect of it is great!
+ The game gives you plenty of things to do. It may be considered a "grind" by some people, but it doesn't really feel that way to me.
+ Melee is actually fun. It feels truly powerful.

    Cons:
    - It'd be nice if there were some more players in the maps.
    - An easy way to friend/team up with random people would be great.
    - Some form of voice communication would also be great.
    - The story does feel a bit lacking, even though the premise is cool.
    - There is currently no way to customize your appearance after character creation.

(I was convinced to buy Destiny at the last minute (9/8/2014) by a co-worker. I have never played any of the Halo games, and I've only put a few hours into Call of Duty. Basically, this is a very unbiased review.)

Let me start off by saying that I understand why some people are disappointed. But, while Destiny may seem lackluster in some regards, that is far from the truth.

Destiny is, at it's core, is a very gameplay driven experience. Any one who played the Halo trilogy will probably understand the genius of the subtle AI variety between different types of enemies, and the extremely polished shooting and movement mechanics that have been implemented here. The gameplay has elements like these that, to the uncritical eye, may seem "dull" or "boring", but upon further examination have an immense amount of thought put into them. As well, the game has a surprisingly robust RPG character management layered in. On top of this, the fact that your guardian perfectly fits into a multiplayer arena, that at launch seems to have very little balancing issues, is an astonishing feat of game making that only a studio like Bungie or Rockstar could pull off. So, what about the story?

Well, A wouldn't even say that Destiny has a "Narrative" per say. It's more of an layered back story and current world state that you are dropped into. If you are looking for something like what Halo or Bioshock brings to the table story-wise, look elsewhere because that is not what is being offered here. Like I said earlier, this is a gameplay driven experience, like Counterstrike, or Pac Man. But unlike those titles, Destiny puts one of the most exhilarating coats of paint I have ever seen in my 15 years of gaming on top of this core experience.

The presentation. Wow, just wow. The atmosphere, the immersion, the sound, just about everything presentation wise is nothing short of brilliant. Never have I been pulled into a console game this much just due to how it presents itself. The rustic wasteland of Old Russia, the creepy baroness of the moon, the wide open dunes of mars, and a handful of other locales all look (and play) very uniquely. Not to mention the incredibly varied ambiance that exists in each area (props to the audio team). It is a combination of the gorgeous visuals and deeply layered sound design that really transcend all the other elements of the game. And obviously Marty O'Donnell can not be overlooked here, he delivers as usual with a soundtrack that is both atmospheric and energetic. Never has a game that is so gameplay driven, given me this much incentive to stop and smell the roses.

I hope I have gotten my point across: It is the subtle things that Bungie delivers in droves with Destiny. So take your time with this game, enjoy the environments and the lore which drip with atmosphere, because Bungie has managed to create a very rich experience without the shackles of a typical narrative. You make your own story, so have a little imagination and appreciate the world that is Destiny. Any one who loves playing games, and who truly appreciates the craft of game making, should buy Destiny in a heartbeat. It is reminiscent of Halo: Combat Evolved in how simple, yet complex it can be. On the surface, it is amazing fun to just shoot aliens in the face with big guns, but underneath that surface, a truly interesting and intriguing universe exists, begging to be explored. I honestly believe that this game is a masterpiece, and I expect very high critical praise once the reviews start rolling in. Props to Bungie and everyone involved in the project.

Some are complaining that this isn't Borderlands / this isn't Halo: No, it isn't. It's Destiny. C'mon now.

Lastly, a big complaint is the lack of single player and the lack of a good chat system for multiplayer... the lack of a single player may be a deal breaker for some but certainly not worth a 0 or a 1 review. Single player isn't really possible with this game given the open world idea it has going on. On your way to a mission, you'll come by plenty of other Guardians fighting off hordes, and can join in with them. Who knows, maybe they're heading in the same direction as your quest. These impromptu "fireteams" are a lot of fun to experience, especially when an optional event spawns in your map.

As far as the lack of voice chat goes, I'm with you on that one. But again, that doesn't really warrant a mass drop of the score.

Destiny definitely has a unique feel to it, which I think some might take to be empty or generic. I don't really feel that way. The worlds feel a bit desolate and isolated, but in a way that space probably should. You're never completely alone playing, even when you don't have a fireteam because there are other players doing their own missions in the same area as you. This was a really nice surprise. I feel like what's there is a great basis for an online community to dwell and grow in. I'm excited to see what more this game has to offer.

As far as the story goes, it's almost not there, but what is is interesting and intriguing. I'd definitely prefer a sparse story to one that sucks. There's been nothing corny or over the top about the game, which is usually what pulls me out of being immersed.

Of course people are comparing this to Borderlands and Halo, which makes sense. However, I think this is a little bit more of a refined experience than both. It's definitely a mature product in a game making sense.

My advice is to not listen to all the negative reviews on this and try the game out for yourself. Is it the best game ever made? No, it's not. It is worth $60? Yes, absolutely.

Guys, remember to click on the user's name when you see a 0 to 3 type of score. You will be amazed by how many Metacritic user reviews are either 0 or 10. As with most mainstream gaming fans, players seem incapable of providing an opinion between these extremes. Metacritic should just use an "Enjoy" or "Did not enjoy" rating system for user reviews, because people seem to be tragically incapable of providing honest, balanced, sane user reviews.

You'll have morons giving a 0 when they can't launch the game, or a 0 due to one small feature bothering them. That's not a 0 folks. You wait until you can play to review, and in the case of a single feature that irks you, you balance your score around that negative and the positives.

Stop embarrassing yourself and other gamers with these polarized extremes. Destiny isn't a 0, come on! It's certainly a baseline 6 or greater title, by any objective measure of recent game releases.

Look at some of these 0 scores. They come from people who gave 10 to the last Call of Duty and 0 to Grand Theft Auto V, or vice-versa. We're talking about people with chips on their shoulders, personal vendettas, zero perspective, or a chronic disability with communication.

Grow up. Destiny is easily a solid 7 for me, has improved to an 8 via more focused play with people on my Friend list, and it should easily give me my $60 worth over the next few months.

Stay open-minded, gamers. Knee-jerk scoring extremes are just embarassing - or outright lies. Consider some of these Destiny users that give 0 to the PS4 version and 10 to the Xbox One version - or the other way around. Why would you trust these people? People are so accustomed to vomiting opinions on the Internet with little-to-no perspective, fire and forget style, how can we expect to trust a subset of entertainment fans with notoriously small attention spans?

GAMERS, let's do better. Let's expose the dumb and review with proper balance and perspective. Help your fellow gamer instead of airing your dirty laundry with unintelligible emotional hang-ups.

C'mon, guys - make a mental checklist of your actual positives vs. negatives, and mold your score around that. I'm going to keep playing and evaluating, holding at 8/10 with future content additions in mind.

The game is clearly meant to be played with friends. The story content and writing seems bare, as if they tried to keep plot out of the way of friendly banter between fireteams. The real interesting aspect of the game's lore come unfortunately from the Grimoire Cards, items found in game that can only be read on Bungie's Destiny app or on their own website. This will keep a lot of people from really experiencing what is a deceptively deep and compelling universe.

It's clear that there's room in the game for DLC. With the first two expansions announced before the game's release, it feels as if the story has suffered from a desire to sell removed sections of the game. What's there justifies the initial purchase in my opinion, but the practice leaves a bad taste in my mouth for sure.

The decision to exclude team-chat during the game's multiplayer mode keeps solo players from being able to jump in and perform well with strangers. This unfortunately keeps the game from having perhaps the best multiplayer experience in any current-gen shooter.

At the end of the day, playing this game with friends and clan mates will provide an exciting experience that, quite frankly, is a total blast. Collecting loot, exploring, competing and cooperating with your team feels as good or better in this game than in any other. Without the ability to speak to teammates without inviting them to join your fire team, playing the game solo may indeed keep a player from really enjoying what could be a near-perfect game.

First off, anyone giving this game less than 6 is reviewing it based on some missed expectation that they had, and not based on the game as it stands.

The story missions were fun, though playing them on hard is a necessary for anyone looking for any kind of challenge with a fireteam. When I took the time to actually look around, some of the environments I was taken too where quite impressive. Whenever I started to feel bored with the single player a new planet would open up, bringing new environments to explore and new enemy types. The story itself was easily dismissed by many, but I found that if I actually listened to everything and payed attention to why I was doing things it was more enjoyable. I think it didn't resonate with more people because storytelling would frequently happen without taking a break from the game. You would be running around and collecting ammo or whatever usually while the narrator (ghost) was talking and the dialogue just didn't pop out as much.

The content opens up a lot after lvl 20. The strike missions on heroic/impossible difficulties presented a great challenge for fireteams and made teamplay a necessity. I didn't get a chance to try out the 6-man raids though...

PvP is a lot of fun, and I can see myself spending a lot of time there. I'm really a CoD/BF player that enjoys single player/coop games like Borderlands and Mass Effect on the side. The matches I played in the crucible were exciting and the map variety was decent. Many people felt that in the Beta there was no weapon to use outside of the automatic rifle, but I felt like each weapon type could be successful with an appropriate change in tactics (though I believe the day one patch had a bit to do with balancing it out). You don't sprint into the middle of a firefight with a revolver any more than you would snipe with a shotgun. Being able to change your weapon loadout mid-match is a great feature, as it gives you the ability to change up your strategy based on the map and the enemies tactics.

I felt like there were some missed opportunities though. More mission variety would have been nice. For example, there was one mission in particular where you picked up a big sword and held off a wave of enemies with a brutal sword/melee attack. It presented a slight change of pace, an opportunity to feel overpowered (without actually being so, as you would get your ass kicked by the elites if you spent too much time in melee range). Most of the missions were similar "go here, kill guys, kill an elite/boss, go home" type missions, mixing attacking new areas with defending against incoming waves. Maybe more missions where you did a lot with vehicles, or got into turrets, or any other single player FPS tropes. I also felt like there wasn't enough loot drops. When it takes 10 minutes and/or multiple attempts to take down a boss, have him drop a cool weapon or gadget for the lower levels. There was more loot in end game content, but getting there takes a while and the lack of rewards from killing bosses was taxing when going through the story the first time. Also, I miss the big multiplayer matches (8v8 or 12v12) in multiplayer, and the vehicle variety in both single and multiplayer. A few Halo-esque vehicle missions would have been a welcome addition to the story missions. To say that the movement and gunplay didn't feel at least a little Halo-esque would be a lie, and I want my blood gulch!

Overall it is a solid game, with loads of content. I felt like it had a little bit of something for everyone, with a enjoyable campaign for casual, a solid end-game for hardcore, and fun PvP for that crowd. I can assume some of the things I thought were missing had to be cut based on the amount of development time they had in creating these massive worlds and multiple ways to experience it. Hopefully we see the addition of some of those things with the upcoming expansions, and we don't have to wait until "Destiny 2" to get it. I for one look forward to spending a lot of time gearing up multiple classes and having fun in multiplayer for now. See you on the battlefield!

So after about 20-25 hours in destiny, the vast majority of it in strikes, campaign missions and just general free roam stuff, I've completed the main campaign. Still got a ton to do, lots of pvp stuff to do, and then there are the raids and additional strikes which at the moment are still locked. But these are my thoughts and opinions on it so far. This may be a very long post so fore warning.

I've enjoyed the game a lot, I like the combat, it's really fun, especially when there are multiple players in the field in the large battles. The enemies are nicely varied and interest ing to fight against and the locations are quite large and open, also quite lovely to look at, with some impressive areas which are fun to explore for the most part.

The strikes that I have completed are quite challenging, probably impossible on your own due to all the enemies you go up against. And even with strangers we still cooperated well enough, though having a few friends and mics during them makes for some epic coop runs and I would advise to have a firearm of your friends over strangers.

The free roam side missions, whilst a bit repetitive after a while can still be fun. You will be tasked with scouting/scanning certain areas, killing certain enemies or a number of enemies, thAt kind of thing. And the public events are pretty challenging and fun at the same time, even more so with other players around, and there tends to be a few when these kick off.

The multiplayer is kind of a hybrid of halo and cod, more so on the former, which for me makes it quite enjoyable, though it's not my main focus. But it is quite balanced, as a lvl 7 I could stand toe to toe with players twice my level, also has some nice varied maps to play on as well, though only five modes which is a let down.

Now, it may seem this I'm giving a completely positive view on this and I'm certain some people will begin to cry fanboy and the likes, and I am giving a positive view for the most part. But There are two areas of the game that disappointed me, and they are two of my most key areas that I look forward to in games. Story and lore.

Now firstly, the lore. I don't think it's bad, actually for me it's quite interesting, I want to learn more. But the way it's handled, and I've mentioned it before here, is very poorly in my opinion. You can't have conversations with the quest givers or talk to them about their past or just general history. Which I love doing in games, I don't know how many hours in skyrim alone I just talked to people or just reading books. Now granted you can read up about the lore in the bungie site via the grimoire cards, which are very informative and nicely done. But it's quite distracting having to go out of the game an go to another place and read it when it could have easily been done in game via better means.

Secondly, the story. Now for me I've always liked bungie stories, halos was nothing revolutionary or ground breaking, it was quite normal I guess but I felt they did it really well. Here however it's essentially a mess. It's not that we'll linked together, the substance of them (not the actual battles, they are fun) but the narrative is quite disjointed and lacking and, I don't really care about it for the most part, some story missions are nicely done, especially on the moon, but overall its meh. If it was probably linked together more strongly I may not be as annoyed by it but I am. Which is a massive shame as I like this universe, the lore and backstory is interesting as are the locations, but the actual in game story segments arnt. So in this regard the game is a disappointment, but overall I still like it.

So overall, despite the two main issues I have with the game, it's really one, lore is a minor issue, I would give destiny an 8/10. As it is still enjoyable, especially the coop strikes and the raids look promising so I'm interested in them. Despite my issue with the lore I still like it and will continue to read up on it and I will most likely get the expansions down the road for the extra strikes and gear and in general playing this game for a good while. Hopefully bungie works on the story more for the later updates and what have you.

If the story had been on par with halo this would probably be a 10 from me, but it isn't. For some people it will be, fir others it will be a lot lower, but to each his own.

The advertising for the game seems to bill it equally as MMO and online FPS, however I feel that Destiny has managed to craft something a little different that may not be a killer app the way that Halo was, but definitely introduces some neat ideas that would love to catch on. In particular I enjoy how well the whole package is tied together. from one menu you can choose to do PvE content, Co-op, or PVP and they all feed into one another so that you never feel that your time invested is wasted or segmented from the rest. I often skip PvP when I play MMORPGs because it is isolated (Typically) from the PvE content and it feels like I'm trying to progress two different characters in very similar games, which I don't enjoy. Instead, you earn great experience points, armor, as well as additional PvP rewards from participating in the 4 PvP modes, and all of that progress helps you in the "single-player" game as well. This, to me, is the biggest selling point of Destiny because the other good points of the game are self-evident. It looks great, controls great, etc. But since the game is trying to convince us all that it is different, I felt it was important to focus on what those differences are.

Besides the Hybrid PvE/PVP content being done well, i really enjoy the way they have designed leveling up, and the separate classes. At level up you're given a skill point to distribute, and your skills screen is separated into columns, although it just looks like one big block of cubes. For example, while you might have 40 squares on the screen, the top row of 5 would be completely different skills or bonuses and anything below would be related. It could be a different grenade style (Grenades are on a cool-down timer rather than a lootable item, also) or it could be a stat boost that has trade-offs. You can freely trade between the skills that have trade-offs or offer competing benefits as you unlock them, as well.

Depending on the rarity of your items, you also have skills on your weapons and armor that get unlocked. For example, on a Blue quality drop, you have a similar "Skill Tree" where you use the weapon or item enough and it earns XP that unlocks the ability to pay for upgrades with in-game currency. This could be a better scope, or a more interesting feature like improving stability the longer it is fired, or increases reload speed after an emptied clip.

The classes (Titan, Hunter, Warlock) all have a unique look, and have a unique "Special Weapon" category for signature arms (Sniper for hunter, for example), and their armor all has a unique look that reveals their class.

The story thus far is completely forgettable in it's current state, but I don't think it's too late to salvage that. The world itself is interesting enough, and I think that given the resources they've been allowed to this project, Bungie is more than capable of taking gamer feedback and doing something constructive. Will it be done? Probably not. Could it be done? Definitely, the foundations are there.

    Now, on to some negatives.

Each PvE mission is represented on a map of a planet you fly to (You visit multiple). And while the locations on the map are different, you always seem to start in the same location. I believe I have figured out that the map is representative of the "Zone" a la traditional MMO style, but it is misleading from my expectations of a new map, or at least a new spawn point. When you're on the moon, you're always spawning in the same place. You will pass familiar locations, places you've been before on other missions, but will go to an entirely new place, or return to see the effects of other things you did in a location. I think they could represent this better since the screen you choose your mission at shows locations that look like they're very very far apart, but in reality you're looking at the map of a zone, and starting at a static point before moving to the location of the mission.

Missions are very very very repetitive. They are always "Go here, trip the invisible wire and enemies pour in. Work your way to a piece of tech that Peter Dinklage wants to hack into, hold enemies off until he's done. Repeat." However... it's a shooter. I wasn't expecting anything revolutionary, and honestly I am content with the host of new abilities I get from leveling up that stay a bit more grounded than the silliness that Borderlands sticks to. If you're expecting to pick up a new weapon every five minutes with sticky bullets that explode enemies into chunky acid that sets other enemies on fire... this is not the reality of Destiny. It is a much more tame, and grounded experience in regards to the type of gameplay Borderlands introduced us to.

    CONS
    - Can get quite lonely and boring if you play alone
    - Not enough PVP or Strike maps
    - Story does not have a lot of dialogue
    - Voice acting quite poor

Destiny is a game which is has quite a few elements to it. There are raids, strikes, open world
exploration, story mode and also PVP. What I can say is that this game does not do any of these elements brilliant however, it does seem to do it all very good.

The story first of all is quite fun however the voice acting is poor and there is not a lot of dialogue. The fact that you can play the story mode with 2 other friends is also a bonus as this makes the experience a lot more fun.

I am finding the strikes so far very good and there is also different level strikes which offers better loot the harder you go. This gives you sence of progression and reward which entices you to play more of them.
I can say the game appears to be quite harder as well than playing the beta version which makes the battles more interesting.

Bungie said that this game really starts at level 20 and I can see where they are coming from. You feel more rewarded and more progression when hitting level 20 and trying to get more gear.

I have not had a lot of experience with the PVP yet only an hour however I have found it fun to play especially with friends. Some people say that PVP is quite repetitive as there are not a lot of maps and no filters to take out the maps you dont want but the game modes do seem fun not a lot of difference to Halo or Call of Duty.
In some ways i do think it is quite limited at the moment on content (i.e strike/pvp maps) however, I do feel that the game will only get better as time goes on and I am very interested to see what the expansions give us.

All in all there is quite a few things bungie can do to improve this game which I do believe will happen over time the game though is very fun to play with friends and i would reccommend to people who enjoy Halo and Borderlands.

I dont know why people are giving such low scores for this game especially for the fact of no offline single player mode. Everyone knew deep down this was going to be online only and bungie nor activision hinted about offline play. This game is fun to play and I am really enjoying my time in the game.

The Crucible feels like some people are way too overpowered. This is mostly due to the powers / abilities of the classes. I wish that the Crucible relied on traditional loadouts, with only certain modes allowing you to use equipment you've acquired in the story mode. Also it feels like this game will get boring after you beat it. Yes Bungie has talked about post-game raids and stuff, but aside from grinding to get more loot, it seems like there isn't really a lot to do. I think in my head I overhyped this game. I played the game multiple times before it released. I played in Alpha AND Beta on PS4, and also in Beta on the Xbox One, which is the system I bought it for. The game has some of the highest production quality I've ever seen. The way everything acts and reacts is simply amazing. However, the content seems to be an issue to me but this won't bother some people. What is there, is done well. Compared to the Borderlands series, it does away with all the garbage toys, offering you a functional palette of destructive weapons. It offers more variety and growth than more static shooters. It's MMO-ey, but gone is the need to have 40 "friends" whos friendship hinges purely on schedules befitting an employer. Two friends are good enough for an adventure, and yourself-plus-five will be enough for a story to tell. PVP is easy to get into as any Halo match, with significantly more variation in the tools at your disposal to seek your win. Every class is the same at the core, sharing weapon availability, but with their special abilities defining the features of their special attacks, grenades, and melee strikes.

Yet, the major controversy is that the drama, the story, the "epic" falls somewhere in two camps. On one side, it all falls flat, a bizarre failure to try to make a beautiful world engaging (besides things that shoot at you). Yet on the other, the same absence of personality and drama adds to the desolation and desperation of what amounts to being in the soon-to-be-last-moments of humanity seem oddly engineered to be that way. Whether this is a failure or an unintentional success, I still cannot decide. NPC's are incorrigibly depressive, even in the face of good news. Landscapes are vast, interesting stretches of desolation depicting just how close to the precipice you truly stand. That hollowness isn't something you simply 'fail' your way into.

Yet this only makes the game yours to make in an endearing sort of way if you're looking for a shooter-RPG to dig in. It's fun to play. While not offering anything truly unique, this biscuit is worth a bite.

Borderlands is one of my favourite games, and after spending two years playing BL2, I can guarantee this is not the same. Shares some aspects though. And as far as Halo goes, it's really only the aesthetic that is shared. But that's a Bungie thing. Halo is a pretty generic fps within itself to begin with. Most fps games are. If people wanted more "original" games, then you'd actually support games that stray from the norm instead of generic fps games and then companies would start making them. However, that's how the market works. Tldr; The gameplay is great, but not anything all too new. It is enjoyable though.

The lack of chat is actually welcome to me, as I don't really want to converse with other people playing, so the choice of making a fireteam to chat with was a good idea. Not everyone wants to sit there and play with people they don't know, especially since I've got a history of being made fun of on online games for my gender. (Yes, I'm female.) I'd rather just go by myself and if people help me, they help me. Or if people need help, I help them. It's pretty simple.

Graphics wise, it's got it's ups and downs. Some things are absolutely stunning, while some things are like 'meh'. Overall, I'm very happy with how this game looks, and as usual, I love Bungie's designs.

Audio; okay seriously stop making the fallen scream in the background, it's really darn creepy when I'm in a map alone. Like, REALLY creepy.

TLDR; It's a good game, just not anything revolutionary. If you go in without expecting anything over the top amazing, you'll enjoy yourself. For anything though, you shouldn't go in with high expectations. Those who go in with them too high are always disappointed. But I'm enjoying this game and it's a permanent part of my collection.

I hate to see such poor reviews for this game don't be fooled by reviews this game is fun. I give this a 8/10 mainly for the multiplayer experience and fps mechanics. The story fails to explain its self and may be repetitive at times but the game is still fun and hopefully will be improved in upcoming dlc and expansions.

I gave an 8 because I agree that it is somewhat repetative (again, which mmo isn't) and I feel the social aspect needs a fair amount of work. Fireteams should be a seamless easy process. Otherwise it's an outstanding game for those who enjoy Sci-fi elements and mmo's. Gameplay is swift and fun, music is a treat and I'm sure we can all agree that the atmosphere is top notch. If you're THAT worried about not enjoying it, buy a hard copy to return if neccessary. I'm quite sure you won't be dissappointed. Those are just hippies being angry, saying how "Bungie mashed Borderlands+Halo together". That doesn't mean it's a bad game. Let's see you hippies make a better and original idea.

I would recommend playing this game with friends (or even just join a Facebook group and add people there) because doing missions solo may be slightly difficult, even if you are at the recommended level. I'm currently level 16 and been enjoying the hell out of this game.

I saw some reviews saying leveling up too fast may hurt in the long run, but I can say it won't because there are going to be a LOT of content for those that are for max level players.

As a MMOFPS/RPG, I'd say Destiny is really successful and satisfies those elements. When you see people saying how it's like any other FPS games, you have to think about this, WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM AN FPS GAME?! Like seriously, FPS = run, kill, knife, shoot etc. I don't know what these people want from FPS.

I mean yes, Destiny is a great game but doesn't necessarily live up to the hype it had, but it's one hella fun of a game. And honestly, if a game is FUN, it's doing it's job. Just ignore all those idiotic haters and have some fun.

That being said (or written), the writing isn't amazing by any standards (but not totally awful compared to some other games) and starting a second or third character and not being able to skip cutscenes is kind of a bummer. However, Destiny gets a heck of a lot right! I've seen several reviews saying that the enemies and bosses are too easy...Well...get past level 20 and then try level 24 Strike Playlists...or better yet, try the weekly strike or nightfall strike (level 28) missions. Folks, after level 20, you're just getting started.

Lastly, I don't think Bungie "banned" reviews early; and certainly didn't intend to bolster sales by saying early reviews won't be indicative of the full game. What Bungie said is the truth. Destiny is still young; it's only been out a single week. Bungie will continue adding content and supporting those who play it. I think the best is yet to come.

--Small rant about other reviews below--
What I don't understand is folks rating this game a 0-3. To me, if you rate a game 0 to 3, something has to truly be wrong with your experience...like reeeally bad. I don't see anything in Destiny that could make it that awful for any one person. Additionally, when Bungie said Destiny really begins after level 20...they weren't kidding. Patience is required -- sure -- but that's no reason to rate something this great so low (personal opinion...obviously)

But despite all that, I'm still having a ton of fun. The controls are excellent, the enemy variety keeps things fresh, the different weapons are fun to collect and upgrade, and the different armor parts look cool. The different classes are well thought out and can be very hard to decide between. The competitive multiplayer is a ton of fun and it uses your story character, which is sometimes a good way to level up. The sparrows, the vehicles in the game, are fun to drive, as are the pikes. I conquered the alpha, mastered the Beta, and am dominating the full release. I have also looked over around 1000 user reviews and understand where some of the negative and mixed reviews are coming from.

Destiny is amazing. It's a living, breathing, remarkable online world full of mystery and wonder. The graphics and music are top tier and bring this wonderful world to life. At the time of this review I understand that the game is not finished. Bungie it's planning on making an expansive world that will last for years to come. There is a lot of good in this game, but it falls short of a perfect review due to a few small shortcomings.

To start off, this game is gorgeous. The amount of detail that went into this game is just impressive. The enemy design is varied, but has some reminisce of Halo. Most negative users complain that there is only four or five enemies and they are all the same. Well obviously they never left Earth. On Mars there is the Cabal, giant massive hulks that feel reminiscent of hunters from Halo. On Venus there are Vex, sentient machines full of malice and wonder. The Moon houses the Hive, space zombies if you will and extremly terrifying. On Earth are the Fallen, the main enemy of humanity and reminiscent of the Covenant from Halo. You can fight most of these enemies in multiple locations as well, forcing you to change your equipment and tactics often.

Destiny is absolutely beautiful. From the gun designs to the locations you will visit, you can tell thousands of dedicated hours went into this game. The UI is simple and inviting and gets the job done extremly well. There is tons of customization for your character from appearance to guns; classes to abilities; even level up stats are available to your character and equipment. One thing you should know is that you will be upgrading and changing your gear often. This in turn means you will be replaying missions often to find better loot and progress your character.

The story is expanding. This is just the start for Bungie and Destiny. Through weekly events and expansions, the world and story will only grow more epic and engaging. There is plenty to do and lots to discover. Every planet has its own giant area to scout, where you can explore and do basic fetch quests for items and xp, but the quests can get slightly repetitive. Mars stuck out to me the most because there was so much going on for a planet that I assumed would just be red sand. Do not listen to those saying the worlds are tiny. There are hidden caves and massive caverns hidden everywhere when you explore and I am still constantly getting lost and exploring new areas each time I play.

The multiplayer aspect of this game is pretty primitive. The missions require you to party up before you start and if you do not have a few friends with PS4's, I would recommend getting Destiny on a console you have friends on. It was frustrating playing with random team members due to a lack of communication tools and the fact that players would often leave the game mid way through. Destiny is all about the multiplayer aspect and you would expect a game so focused on multiplayer to have a basic matchmaking system. Luckily, many of my friends own PS4's so the lack of matchmaking on missions didn't bother me to much. Also, it should be noted that playing PvP is most enjoyable with team members that communicate and work together complete goals. The PvP can be a fun distraction from playing missions and strikes and could hold together as a primary reason to come back to this game for months to come. As PvP goes, it's basic FPS game types versus human players.

Destiny was an extremly over hyped game. Between fan speculation, rumors, and the Alpha/Beta many fans were expecting more. Don't get me wrong there is plenty to do in this game, but many other user reviewers seemed to think Destiny would be a completely different game from the Beta build. It is very much so a RPG FPS first, rather than a MMO. It handles like most FPS's and is in no way revolutionary like some where expecting. This however does not make it a bad game. It takes many concepts from other games and mashes them together to make a super enjoyable shooter. Just don't buy Destiny intending it to reinvent the wheel.

Destiny is a fantastic game. It will grow into a new universe and be a new franchise rising in popularity as years progress. It's a polished FPS with RPG elements that make it fun and varied. There is a lot to see and explore and will keep you entertained for years to come. It is lacking in the multiplayer area, but if you have friends dedicated to play you will have a enjoyable gaming experience. Look past the negitive reviews and understand that while Destiny may not reinvent the wheel, it rolls along quite well. 8/10

This game is strong where it counts but has very noticeable weaknesses. It has solid gunplay and excellent strike missions. The story is lacking, I think Bungie was trying to go for mysterious but just ended up confusong a lot of players. It has a lot of room to grow as do all new MMOs, a little time and perhaps Bungie will fill in the blanks.

In no way is this the game changer we hoped it would be but it still is a fun game. Game-play wise it's almost perfect each class has different edge to it so no one class is overpowered or the clear victor, it all depends on how you play. Playing with friends or playing against them is also really fun the PVP and strikes are fun to do with a group of friends or strangers it probably has one of the better examples of team dynamics of most games. From the games I've played I've never seen someone "carry" the team to victory. So in terms of mechanics and visuals it's solid. Now for story is were it falls flat. First off I never found the missions to be complete repeats of each other each one had a different reason in terms of story. Now some objectives were repeated at times like protect this or destroy this but if we fault this game for it then no game is innocent of this "crime". The lore has tons of potential to be a great story but it is poorly executed. While each of the enemy races were unique it terms of classes the lore behind them is never fully explained. Destiny is an example of quantity over quality each of the races are interesting to look at and appear to have interesting lore behind it but it's never fully realized. Why do the Hive and Fallen hate each other if they are both minions of the dark? How does the Cabal fit into any of this? Well we never get an answer Bungie went for a story line of throwing the player in the middle of the action to figure out what happened in the past to protect the future. A simple story-line that they used with Halo but they never bother to accurately explain the past. All we know is there's this thing called the Traveler and it's good but then there is this thing called the Darkness that wants to destroy the Traveler for reasons and in the end humanity got beat by the darkness leaving only one city, that's all we really get. Another thing that is done rather poorly is the execution of post max level once you beat the campaign and reach lvl 20 you have really two options. PVP or repeating strikes for the vanguard to get awesome armor while that might be fun for a time it does were down. Overall though this is very strange game to review because we know more stuff is coming. We know that more DLC is coming that will open up more locations and story missions that will hopefully better explain the lore. So I guess this is a vanilla review of the game that will absolutely change over time. In the end if you have friends and want just a fun game to play with and are willing to wait for change to come then absolutely pick it up but if you wait for more stuff to role in then your not missing much right now. I hope in the future Destiny becomes the game we hoped it would be. Expand

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
