I find Destiny a very difficult game to review as it is describe as a 10 year experience, therefore the story is incomplete and we'll have to wait for all the DLC to come out to know all the story (and if there worth investing some money in it). But at the moment the plot is quite common and forgettable.
The gameplay is easy to manage and fun to play, (we didn't expect less from the creators of Halo) and every FPS users will master it pretty quickly. The graphics are great (specially the light effects), so are the OST and artistic direction (i pictured the Moon exactly the same way it is in Destiny).
Now to the bad points , if you play all the campaign you will have the impression to do the same mission again and again in different locations (except one little phase) and that can be boring especially if you don't play with friends (if you are there is always the thrill of being part of a team to spice the experience). The level-up system is a bit strange once you reach level 20 and it will depend of your luck in looting Legendary items, maybe i just have to get use to it but for the moment it bothers a me a little (you kill bosses and don't gain XP, it feels wrong to me). And finally the PvP mode is really horrible for newcomers, there is absolutely none balancing, if your opponents are 10 levels above yours they'll probably kill you in one shot while you'll have to empty your mag on them in the hope of killing them. Once you're in the big levels it's the most classic PvP you can encounter.

Despite those huge flaws i had fun playing Destiny (especially with friends) and that's why i'm not giving a bad mark. In the hope that future DLCs will really improve the solo experience and be affordable.

First of all, to get the negatives out of the way. The first thing that should strike you is the generic-ness of it - we land on Mars, in what could be a lovely homage to classical sci-fi, but instead we get a bland and basic lecture about The Darkness, which is supposedly engulfing Light, and then you're thrust into the game with The Fallen chasing you with no explanation as to who they are or why they're dangerous, or what they're even for. An excellent demonstration of what we're to expect - embarrassing nomenclature combined with factions and backstory that aren't included in the game itself, you have to go to their website to read up on it.

Undoubtedly a beautiful game, the graphics are wasted on dull level designs, lacking in any significant character. Perhaps my favourite of all of them was Venus, though even that lacked anything that distinguished it from any other garden or jungle type map in any other game. The influences of The Vex on the planet seemed negligible. Nothing seemed to indicate any kind of culture - The Hive's possessed places were identical to that of The Fallen's, only with squishy grey pods on the wall. They all occupied human buildings and never seemed to expand on their own or give themselves any characterisation beyond a different model to shoot at.

It's also disappointing that there are only 4 total free-roam locations, and all of them quite small. There's nothing more annoying than having such a visually stunning game be limited so severely, especially when you spend most of your time inside stock sci-fi metal corridors anyway. The Nav System is practically useless and you can't access any sort of a map, so good luck getting lost while trying to explore for the sake of exploring. You'll be backtracking a lot, and it'll lose a lot of its sense of wonder.

Your character classes are also superfluous, and don't seem to matter. Usually you would need a balanced party to succeed in any serious dungeon-delving experience in any other game like this, but it doesn't seem so here. The classes seem superficially different, with all the same types of skills - a grenade, a double jump, a melee augment, etc. It makes forming a team less fun.

Peter Dinklage's voice acting is also unremarkable, and I chalk this down to bad directing. I understand that behind the mic is a lot different than in front of a camera, but there's no way this man can deliver such excellent performances in the T.V. series and movies that we've seen and yet fall down at even the most basic lines here.

Loot is also randomised, with even Legendary Engrams (item schematics you get decoded into random items) turning up something useless. I trust anybody who's played an MMO shouldn't need the reasons why this sucks explained to them. It does seem Bungie are working on fixing this, though, so that might be a temporary complaint.

I think what makes this game is that it has serious potential. I played it and got hooked, but found everything so... lacking. I'm keeping on with it because I genuinely want to see what Bungie have left to unveil.

I'm sure that most of these problems will be resolved eventually in patches, but as for now it mediocre shooter with loot hording which is more annoying than Diablo 3.

If you have a good group of friends to play with the combat action alone can be enough to pull you through but if you're playing by yourself you will love it for the first 6-10 hours but after it can just become very repetitive due to the lack of story and suspense that a storyline would bring. I really hope that if a sequel is released that Bungie will spend a lot more time on building the story because the game and series has a ton of potential Expand

Forget the online matches, it's poorly matched to players of equal skills and as much fun as CoD (not fun at all).

It looks very nice indeed on the PS4, and the controls and handling are spot on. I can't fault that side of the games development at all. I cannot attest to the games longevity at this point but in small short burts it does have it's moments.

The reviews that people like Angry Joe had about left a very nasty taste in my mouth about the game. However, after my friends convinced me to buy the game since it still received a mediocre review.

When I played it, it was actually very fun. Although the lack of story is a huge problem, I can still get over it as I come into my video games expecting GAMEPLAY. As John Carmack said "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important." And although its probably not there, its the core gameplay that is what should be focused on.

But, this does not mean that gameplay is innocent. Yes, there are moments in the game that feel like Bungie's idea of "difficulty" is shooting for an hour. Yes, what was thought to happen with the games exploration didn't. And yes, the reward system for PVP is horrible (Do bad, get better rewards).

However, if you look past this, then you will find a very solid FPS that can be fun alone or with friends. The game is visually amazing, the gun mechanics are fair, the PVP despite the reward system is great, and if you can get around the other problems then you will find a product than you can play for a little while until something else comes around the corner.

I’m not gonna go into all the pros and cons since they can be found in any other review. I just quickly wanna tell you guys why Destiny isn’t better than a 7 out of 10 for me.

The major reason is its lack of content and things to do, thus resulting in a mindless grind, sooner or later.
There practically isn’t any story to be found, so we can forget that part.
The few strikes that are available are a blast to play, but there are just five of them. Pretty quickly you get tired of them... which removes them from the to-do list, too.
I personally hate PvP, so this feature got removed from my to-do list right from the start. But I heard that the PvP is supposed to be quite good... again, for a while.
My biggest disappointment was the raid. I’ve waited so long to be finally able to actually get into the Vault of Glass (name of the raid) just to find out that it’s plain boring. Please remember, this is my personal opinion. Lots of people love the raid but for me it marked the beginning of the end for me and Destiny.

It’s such a shame since the gameplay and the shooting mechanics are so much fun. The graphics are awesome too and the sound and music could hardly be better.
But all this counts for nothing if there’s nothing to do except to do the same strike, mission, raid over and over and over again… tedious and boring.

Out of protest I’m not gonna buy the expansions since their value is questionable at best… again, in my opinion. Perhaps I pick up Destiny in the future again but at the moment I have no desire whatsoever to continue the mindless grind.

Hyping a game too much is a risky move, and Destiny shows you why. In this review of Destiny I will give my opinions and ratings on the following: Gameplay, Story, Sound, Graphics, and Last Impressions. This will be followed by my final score for the game.

    Gameplay: 8.5/10
    - Destiny is a lot of things, and an excellent shooter is one of them. Bungie knows how to make a shooter and they prove this yet again with Destiny. Controls are responsive, shooting is accurate and fun, and coordinating your attacks with friends/teammates can make the game feel quite tactical.

    Story: 4/10
    - Destiny falls flat on it's face with the poor story telling. It might not even be poor story telling as much as a lack of story telling. The game has very few cutscenes (a total of maybe 5), and they mostly just confused me on my first playthrough. The game attempts to do some story telling through your quest descriptions and bounties, but this mostly feels like "Kill this guy, then we'll scan the environment" over and over again. The game also ends out of no where, but that seems fitting I guess, since the story was a mess from the start.

    Sound: 7/10
    - Nothing special to talk about here. Voice acting is few and far between, but is delivered well enough on those rare occasions someone has something to say. Combat sounds good, and monsters shriek as you'd expect them to. Music is great at times, "pumping" you up for battle, and at other times it's just annoying and overly loud.

    Graphics: 8.5/10
    - The graphics in this game are very good. The different areas you visit are few, but each has it's own look to it and at first they are really incredible. The big problem here is the lack of areas. There are 4 planets, which all look incredible the first few times around, but after you've seen everything a few times, it's all old and dry. Character models and guns look good, as you'd expect from Bungie.

    Last Impressions
    - The biggest problem with destiny is the lack of content. People expecting to get a diverse and expansive experience will be disappointing with Destiny. The game is over before you know it, and then becomes a grind to gain better gear and levels. This can be fun with friends, no doubt, but the lack of content in a game that was supposed to be "enormous" is very disappointing. Destiny is an average game at best, but play with the right people and you can have a decent time playing pretty much anything.

    Final Score: 7/10

And I for one have some friends or family I would LOVE to play Destiny with. So why not, while Bungie has the time to kick back and relax, they add splitscreen and make it so us gamers don't have to purchase a membership to Xbox or Playstation to actually make parties. I don't want to buy a $50 membership just to play in the Crucible, nobody does! Borderlands tripled their campaign with $3 DLCs adding a variety of content, and at its launch they had splitscreen for console users as well as making it so we could have parties of up to 4 people. Bungie, is it so hard to just add a split screen, or make the Crucible free for everyone? I have hope for Destiny and with these things, it could become a legendary game! So...Bungie, I implore you to make a new update with the split screen, a free crucible, as well as adding the DLC missions (HoW, tDB, and TK) to the normal game. Whether it be The Dark Below, The House of Wolves, or The Taken King, Destiny has always been struggling to find new ways to keep their players in the game and playing the game.

The mechanics of Destiny are amazing, and what keeps people playing and coming back to the game, with the best first person shooting in a game, in a very long time. However, the content itself gets very stale after repeated attempts to get the gear that you want, as the RNG system is not very forgiving, and having your actual levels based on this is horrible.

The story in Destiny has always been a topic of discussion because, there really is not one, and even recent attempts have improved it, but never brought it to the level that it needed. The real stories came from the players themselves, whether it be from accomplishments, or frustration, the community banded together and pushed the game forward, trying to make the most of it.

Was Destiny a success? Financially, of course, but as a game, it is debatable. There were great moments, and very bad ones, and overall it was more the people that made the game rather than the game. Destiny deserves a 7 if not lower, but the only thing holding it up is the mechanics. We all hope that the next Destiny will be full of more substantial content, but only time will tell.

Great game but everything is hidden behind a paywall. The co op and raid gameplay is fantastic. But you have to be ready to pony up a lot of money in order to play the game. Also the gameplay is repetitive as hell. But it's still fun.

It was decent from beginning to end of the story but once you complete that and the raid then there's pretty much nothing left to do except weekly raid grinding. It only opened up more once an expansion released but after 2 weeks the game just dries up again.

If not for the generic and at times cringy the dialogue is written, the story would be more interesting, which is a shame because the lore is amazing. When Destiny truly shines is when you play mandatory co-op missions, the thing is that even those missions will feel repetitive as the bosses are more like sponges for bullets.

Another thing that I really liked besides the lore is the magnificent art direction, weapons, gear and graphic design of this universe are superb, music and landscapes in the other hand were cool and pretty but I'm not sure they were on the same height.

I really liked my time with Destiny but I also didn't overstay my time there, because as wide as the universe may seem to be, it sure can feel hollow pretty soon.

The premise that Bungie built Destiny on was good but their execution thereof was displeasing. Had I not rejoined the game after taking a year break and buying the season pass, I would have given this a much lower rating, due to the fact that the true ending of the game was hidden behind a pay-wall disguised as "DLC"

The game started out rough but as they continued to update the game it gotten better than the last. This one was the best they could do, there was no need for a destiny 2, two was a half baked idea and a cash grab that only a few can see that. Overall Destiny 1 is good just wish they didn't stop events like trials and iron banner.

I haven't been playing a ton like some people; I saw some people nearing 20 on the first day. I've only been playing when I can steal the time and yet I've STILL managed to go beyond max cap in less than a week. I've done every single PVP map, every single Strike on all four Vanguard difficulties (18, 20, 22, 24), and, frankly, I've reached a point where I can't see a reason to play anymore. I'm sick of the same tired locales, sick of the same bullet sponge strike bosses who have NO strategy other than "point at person doing highest damage and launch instagib attack at them", and sick of the imbalanced mess that is called PVP (snipers, shotties, and specials, ho!). Like I said, I haven't been playing for several hours a day like some people have been and I can't see how they haven't lost their minds to this borefest.

Raids are coming soon but I can't figure why I should give a damn about raiding in Destiny at all. Story wise, there's no "big bad" I feel compelled to fight like there are in traditional MMOs. Gear wise, going from 26 to 30 in raid gear isn't going to make the content any more trivial because the content was trivial from the onset. We don't even know when or if another raid will be coming. So where's the incentive to spend hours on end raiding when existing legendary gear is already more than adequate to make the game utterly trivial? The forthcoming events aren't the same as content, they're just going to be events similar to what we saw with Halo and Waypoint where players will get mildly tweaked rewards for doing things within the EXISTING content. Other than Vault of Glass, which, technically, is already in game just not yet unlocked, all future game expanding content for Destiny WILL be locked behind a paywall and likely won't require previous raid level gear because they won't want to alienate or fragment their playerbase.

The lack of a coherent story, the lack of social elements, and the sheer repetition of the game - far worse than any current MMO on the market - is appalling. Also, since this seems to keep being brought up, anyone who says this game should be rated higher because it's "just like Diablo 3" are ignorant to the differences in genre. They're basing their comparison simply because both games have loot. Diablo 3 and Borderlands are dungeon crawlers. You aren't doing the dungeons in Diablo 3 over and over again to unlock a new tier of content. That's the difference. Destiny gates future content behind a slow gear grind like MMOs. To compare the two is utterly disingenuous. In one dungeon in Diablo, you'll return to town several times with bags full of gear; In one strike in Destiny, you'll be lucky if you see two to three useless greens and one uncommon blue at the end. Even if the comparison were remotely apt, Diablo 3 has more content in the FIRST TWO ACTS than Destiny does in the WHOLE GAME.

The sad reality is Destiny is a next-gen version of Defiance: Good combat system, but with a head-scratching story, convoluted leveling system, half-arsed public events, bland loot system, poorly designed social functions, horribly balanced PVP, lackluster early end game, and a developer with an inflated ego about how "groundbreaking" their game supposedly is. I suppose Destiny gets a bit better marks for having more than one map but I don't think it has that much more effective playing area.

If you can only afford one, buy Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition. Although it's a different sub-genre, Diablo 3 contains far more content, far more replayability, and a far more rewarding experience than Destiny. Redbox or GameFly Destiny, play it up till you've gotten a couple light levels, then take/send it back. You will have seen the whole package - a couple of times, no less - by doing so.

I am having a ball given the variety and overall excellent execution for the world and game design in general. - half assed story - these are the people who developed the Halo universe, which is pretty rich. But apparently they invested no more than a total of $10 into a decent story. Any teenager with a laptop can do better than this - they didn't even try. No answers or info is really given in the game, and 99% of the background info is not in-game but in the 'grimoire cards' on their website. WTF? Imagine if Mass Effect had had zero info on the Turians, Asari, Hanar, or any other species and just had a generic enemy called the 'Darkness'. That would be Destiny's story.
    - sucky endgame. After beating the story, what is there to do? The same 5 or 6 strikes over and over and over and over, and over and over again? Talk about boring. Then there are these big, bad 'raids'. Sounds cool right? Finally can play with a part of more than 3 people (seriously, Borderlands managed 4 person teams last gen for god's sake). But wait! No matchmaking! So if you do not have 6 friends with this game on at the same time, there's no playing the raids - which makes them entirely useless.
    - unbalanced multiplayer. Wow is the multiplayer disappointing. None of the maps really seem all that different from each other. Guardian abilities badly unbalance the gameplay and vehicles have no counter measures (unlike in Halo). As soon as Halo MCC hits in November, no way I'd ever consider going back to Destiny's multiplayer.

Overall, very disappointing. At least Bungie taught me a lesson - *never* buy the $100 special edition of the first game in a new franchise. I cannot believe I spent that much on a game that I got less than 10 hours of gameplay in. Ugh

Sadly, the positives end there. This is a game with very poor design. The missions/quests are repetitive and uninteresting. The story is completely forgettable at all points during the narrative. The weapon types are limited, making it far less interesting than Borderlands (a series it's commonly compared to). The world is basically a few small-scale zones where a few random players are throw in together.

This is a game that has a bright future with tons of additions, but sadly I lost any interest in playing beyond the first week.

    Graphics
Stunning, esp the character models, they are sharp, crisp smooth. truly Next Gen (PC)!

    Art Direction
The exotics armour with effects like sun breakers will make you drool but another half of then exotics are plain junks like raspberry armour? gorgeous stunning atmosphere of moon and delicious Venus comes a bummer of pukey Mars which is a finale planet so to speak? it the extreme of dedication and lazy work which is extremely disappointing. it like they hired some poor freelancers to fill in the numbers with no quality control.

    Gameplay
Top notch shooter with unique game changer skill sets. the elements are pretty interesting but under ultised. The only weapon type that shines is fusion rifles the rest are plain generic.

    Level Design
like i have mentioned before, its the extreme of fantastic level of VOG to the trash of missions/strikes. Do they even play their own game? i really wonder. its like selling a stapler in starbucks.

    Game Mechanic
the idea is there "MMO" like but it falls flat game breaking to decide to rely on light level. everything is meaningless unless you get the raid armours which end up everyone will look the same with some variation. your best weapons are pointless if your light lv is lower than the enemies. don't get me started with the RNG rewards, its the most frustration experience you can have or vice verse.

    Social
the cream of the modes like nightfall n raids does not have match making, forcing sites like LFG to be critical, don't even talk about clan, its broken...you need "nice" pple to play with or even better with friends which is another down or up for a better experience

    Multiplayer
all the nonsense with balancing just screws up PVE, weapons are already normalised but why does it has to affect PVE? great experience imo but lacking to please the hardcores. Severely lacking in scale of a title call DESTINY...a 12 v 12 game mode at least will be chaotically fun. instead new modes are getting like 2 v 2...

This is a wasted opportunity. I feel really hard done-by and all the PR stuns are **** everyone. Don't believe what they say, play it and know it yourself.

It's certainly nowhere near deserving the hype its been getting from the press. My advice to anyone thinking about taking the plunge is dont listen to the sheeples and marketing spiel coming from gaming websites. Look at their actual reviews, they are very telling, the game is hitting around the 70-80 mark. Not exactly stellar, but not bad. Watch some gameplay, or if possible gets some hands on time. Bungie likes to say this is their biggest game ever but they have been making linear shooters since forever so how is that a good measuring stick for a quasi-mmo like destiny?

The explorable area in Destiny feels tiny, a small selection of open world zones. If you played the beta, multiply the old russia zone by four. That's it. Earth only has one explorable zone, same for the moon, mars, and venus. Each one smells like cut content, too - King's Watch and the Jovian Complex on earth are still sealed after release.

The story is almost non-existent, or only available via the trading card like "grimoire" on bungie's WEBSITE, not in the game at all. If it was bungie's intention to leave the player in the dark, well they went in and smashed every nightlight in a fourty mile radius and it sure didn't make anybody happy.

The focus on PVP over PVE - illustrated by the majority of "events" revolving around the unbalanced pvp system which is rife with insta-kills and quickly demonstrates which class has the ridiculously superior supermoves.

PVE is left to rot, which is a shame because that was all I wanted from this game, with only repetitive strikes, daily bounties/publics to do like a checklist from WoW, and an annoying reputation system which for some reason isn't account-wide, forcing you to build up reputation all over again for any other class characters you make. PVE's strike playlist seems weighted or perhaps pruned to only provide the same 2-3 strikes in each rank, and is your only option if you want to be rewarded for doing strikes or any kind of mission once you hit level 20.

Which leads me to how players are rewarded in destiny, which is to say- they aren't. for all their talk of having a "cool story" about every piece of legendary gear you have, my only story is "oh the blue deckard cain cryptarch man ate 20 other purple engrams and this is the only one that survived" or "oh i went to vanguard-mart and bought these", hardly ~epic tales~ for the ages.
Additionally you will receive NO REWARDS for doing any story missions after level 20, unless it is a "daily" story mission. and choosing a strike to do with your friends which ISN'T via the playlist menu will get you roughly jack crap if anything.

Oh and get this: BOSSES DON'T DROP LOOT! This is an extreme wtf moment, they should be a loot pinata after how long they take to fight! Bungie, take a lesson from borderlands 2.

On top of this, a Playlist Strike takes about an hour to complete and you are maybe only going to get 2 blues (not legendaries) from completing it, and blues are completely useless once you hit 20, you NEED purples and exotics to advance.

Honestly shooting into that loot cave was more rewarding than any of the activities in destiny and it should have been a huge wake up call for Bungie, but all they did was close it, water down drop tables, and ensure your purples stay purple (the only good decision of the pack.)

For now I'm just waiting to see if my pre-bought DLC consists of cut content, a friend of mine is convinced that new dinklebot lines or other hollywoodians talking will confirm that the DLC was just slashed from the game and sold to us later. We'll see.

Maybe Destiny 2 will waste less money on bored hollywood voice actors and put more into generating content and fun things to do.

I also am personally challenging Bungie to patch in a better and more rewarding loot system so everybody can feel the warm fuzzy embrace of purple and gold drops no matter what they decide to do with their time in game. If they ever do, maybe my review will change.

I was expecting more of an epic battle game involving taking back the solar system with many other guardians holding and pushing back the hordes, but what I got was a very small MMO format summed up with either choosing PvE or PvP. In fact, you don't see many other guardians fighting along side with you as you progress through your missions most times no one, maybe one, maybe three, and that's it. For each planet, you get one large map and you traverse this back and forth until you finish five mission. Most glaring is that there is no story. At one point, more than half-way through the game, you think you started an actual story, but then you realize it's nothing more than just an embellished fetch quest which will play out just like you other fifteen missions did. Multiplayer is just like any other. Fun for about twenty-minutes, then you're bored. At least for me. I do know people who play multiplayer games 24/7, so for those, you might enjoy this game quite a lot. And multiplayer is important in this game because it's the only way you can get the points necessary to purchase new items once you reach level 20. One item will cost you 25-50 points, which means you need to win 25-50 multiplayer matches. For me, I would have to play over 200 multiplayer matches to buy one cape. So to sum this up, the game has been as good as an experience as any other multiplayer aspect of a game; good for a few days, then I'm bored with it. I'm a little disappointed. Expand

This game is pretty much the definition of over-hyping. The issues are quite apparent as soon as you start playing. Enemies are made to be kinda slow and bullet-spungy in order to avoid network lag and allow for co-op shooting experience. If the team isn't focusing fire or has poor gear, fights can drag on and get annoying (think "just scored 50 headshots and the health bar went down by 20%"). There's quite a lot of grinding going on too as you won't get the best weapons without redoing areas. From the immersion side, since it's got those MMO bits in it, your character is essentially a meaningless "random dude no. 5001", so no "manifest Destiny" here, just keep grinding away with the rest.

Seems the Borderlands Pre-Sequel might a better choice for co-op shooter fans that like items, skill trees, etc.

This game brings nothing new to the table other than jaw dropping visuals and a excellent music score.

The game however is a empty shell that is very repetitive, and honestly not worth the end game grind.

Its painfully obvious the game was stripped down in order for the users to buy DLC, though Bungie/Activision will never admit it.

Kinda one of the worst cheesiest songs in video games today. I don't know what's with all the commotion going on with the hype factor of Destiny. Activision (of all people) just always trying to sell everyone a trillion bucks on all franchises: Call of Duty, Blizzard, and now Destiny and make them the company that Rockstar took notice and battle to the death. The party chat being disabled, unless I'm wrong, seems disabled but I get why seeing as this is a social game. The matchmaking isn't bad, given this is Bungie who are renown for their involvement in console multiplayer.

What I found disappointing, maybe it's just me, but the gameplay is very repetitive. There is a bit of exploration but the agenda or mission is always set in a "Go to Point A, complete, then move on to Point B." The leveling in the game is rather quick, seeing as I bumped into max players within 4 hours of playing the game on both consoles. I get why because it's the loot that matters but my fear is that it won't be enough to sway gamers into staying in the universe that Bungie created.

The Multiplayer side, something I don't play much, is good and slightly refined from the Beta stage that we all played. Can't say much about it here seeing as its really up to the gamer to come away with their own opinions.

To close, I give the game a 7.

    Pros:
Graphics great on both. Slight edge to PS4 for its vibrancy.
Gameplay great on both. 1080p and 30fps holds good on both.
It's great game to invest in and really down to personal taste.

    Cons:
    Lack of story.
Leveling too fast may hurt in the long run. Seeing as this game is a time investment more than other games.
Hope of long term investment hinges on upcoming dlc and loot. May be a big gamble that won't succeed with all gamers but with a few.
Repetitive nature of the game could prove to be detrimental to its success.

    Summary:
Destiny is a game that truly reaches for the stars but I fear it may come short since a lot of its success hinges on content that comes in the future. A future that is about to become packed with more games going into the holiday. The repetitive nature could be it's downfall but it all hinges on the gamer and his/her friends. Forgive me for saying but another game that hinged it's success on content was Titanfall. Developed by a great team with the hype and promise that couldn't deliver before it's too late. Let's hope that's not the case for Bungie's first outing since their brilliant work with Halo. Take it as you will, keep on playing.

To start off, its a fun game. Both the campaign and PvP are enjoyable to the point that it was hard to put down when I first started playing. That being said, the game was almost criminally overhyped.

I will start off with an explanation of the campaign. Its short (8 hours at a leisurely pace), extremely easy, and seemed to get samey and monotonous about halfway through. There also seems to be an issue with bulletsponge enemies kind of similar to the newer fallout games in the sense that you can unload an entire magazine into a single enemy and barely have them react. The ending, including the final "boss" are pretty disappointing and will leave you going "wait, that was it?". However despite all this I dont think its fair to call it bad or even mediocre. The quality of the game was high and the problems that I listed before are more of pitfalls of the genre instead of pitfalls of the Game itself.

The Multiplayer is where I think the game seems to teeter off. The PvP gametypes are lacking with only 4 being availible and are very small scale with 6v6 being the biggest multiplayer experience you can get as of release. It plays almost exactly like halo with the gravity turned down. In other words, the movement is REALLY floaty which isnt a problem in PvE but a major annoyance in PvP. There are also some balancing issues but are almost certainly temporary. The MMO features are pretty cool if kind of pointless. There is very little communication between players unless you are in a party with them but its still cool seeing other people just walking around doing their own thing.

However what has been hands down my biggest gripes with this game is the fact that it:

1.) Has no offline singleplayer - a HUGE problem for both people with unreliable internet as well as EVERYONE given the obligatory day one server issues. I understand that making it online only prevents possible piracy issues as well as item editing/duping that is experienced by the console version of diablo 3 but this hurts paying customers far more than it does pirates and cheaters.

2.) Has no splitscreen. Yes you heard that right. no local multiplayer, at all. A massive disappointment to both people who were expecting a more connected and expanded borderlands style game and to people coming from other FPS. What has been considered a staple to the FPS genre for years is absent because it didn't fit bungies "ambitions". It blows my mind that this would even be considered an unnecessary feature and is by far my biggest problem with the game.

Overall the game is fun. It does RPGFPS better than anything else ive played and I feel content paying full price. Only real reasons I didnt give it a better score were a lacking multiplayer and the limiting of options of the player for no good reason. Dont listen to anyone reviewing it as a 0,1 as I find it hard to believe that any game actually deserves such a score but also take any 9 and 10 reviews with a grain of salt. The game is by no means perfect and I wouldnt be lying to you if I said the game was sold on extreme levels of hype and marketing that either intentionally or unintentionally misrepresent the game.

The games story is a joke, story missions have little to no variety to them and a vast majority of the dialogue is exposition, it's a shame the universe is very interesting. I just wish Bungie put a story in it instead of having story missions be encyclopedias.

Gameplay is very much like borderlands, with far less loot. Levels are decently sized, and varied. Space travel essentially acts as a loading screen, which screams wasted potential. When you land on the planets, or levels, they act as a sort of open world, and it's dull. Like I said they are large, but there is just no story to them, it's just an open world with enemies sitting in an area waiting to be shot. The game isn't skill based (unless it's PVP), it's level based, which was annoying for me. PVP is great, it's easily the best part of the game, very satisfying, very competitive, and very addicting!

The graphics are great, and they left me wanting more. When looking at the games gorgeous backgrounds I repetitively said to my friend "I wanna go there!" sadly I could not.

Destiny is just an average game, it's not next gen at all in terms of gameplay (no manual space travel or large planets to explore.) In the end it's a good game, but it could have been fantastic.

The story is poor with much of the narrative being hidden within the unlockable grimoirs. This wouldn't be a problem since hiding lore within items works great within the "Souls" series, but Bungie makes you go to the Bungie website to actually read them. The missions become a chore since boss fights take way too long and the checkpoint system makes you start the 45 minute boss fight over. When the missions complete it doesn't feel like you are rewarded enough for spending 45 minutes lazily shooting at a giant boss. The PVP excels using Bungie's sturdy multiplayer blueprint, but since Destiny has a light-loot system the fights quickly become very unbalanced. There are many things Destiny does right, but when the game becomes such a slog with boss fights, boring missions, and a non-existent story...it's hard to see Destiny being played by many people 3 months down the line... You would get the occasional and very seldom loot but not as often to be satisfactory. In other words, I totally get the low reviews, although it does not deserve anything below 5 for sure, in my opinion the game is a 6 or 7. Technically is very good, but at this point in the history and development of games, it is lacking a lot. Maps are big but small because of a lack of differentiation from one place to another. They should have shot for something like Red Dead Redemption where you see how the map changes and it had such distinctive land marks that I can still remember the different places after so many years from it release. Gameplay: extremely solid and fluid movement that fits expectations of what people call "Next-Gen"

Graphics: Again, the most gorgeous game out there save Ground Zeroes or maybe that new LOTR game, but mostly just once more an excellent example of what people purchased a PS4 or xbone for.

Atmosphere: I still love the story and lore behind the traveler, speaker, and enemies that attack you. It makes sense; to me the story is actually reminiscent to Lord Genome's job in Gurren Lagann; the traveler provided humans with too much power that would make them evolve and expand too fast. Overall, the atmosphere and lore set up is excellent, Id be okay with spin-off games that expand on the story because:

Story: In comparison to this universe they set up it is awful, I wont spoil anything but there isnt much to spoil. You wont find out much about the traveler and you wont feel any closer to stopping the enemies, well I suppose you stop one group of enemies in a mediocre final mission. Oh and dont get me started on how every mission requires 3 deploying of your ghost; objectives feel pointless.

RPG elements: Some cool things here but nothing that got me really excited to hit max level like I thought I would be.

MMO elements: They mash in nearly every thing that a basic mmo has, rep grinding, gear level, raids, dailies, and so forth. But they do all of these in such tiny and insignificant ways it becomes annoying for the audience present. People who play and want to play destiny are mostly among the same crowd that love shooters and rpgs, it brings them together but mmo players will be disappointed and shooter fans annoyed.

Multiplayer: yup this is down there. I could go into vivid detail about so much, but here Ill keep it short:
    1. The guns that you get through playing the game are almost all identical, save some legendaries. It seems that there are soo many different guns and possibilities but when it comes down to the multiplayer there really is only one per class because they all feel the same, and I have played a good deal of multiplayer. There is also huge balance issues leaving the auto rifle and shotgun the two best weapons for the "crucible" as they call it.
    2. The game modes are un-inspired and not very interesting at all, you have TDM, FFA, headquarters, and control which is the only new thing theyve brought to multiplayer, and is just tdm/domination.
    3. The maps are pretty, but mostly just close quarters messes that get agitating fast, but that is mostly opinionated.
    4. The announcer is FANTASTIC, give him some more lines.

    Last but least: Strikes/pve
The strikes are uninspired time wasters that are only fun the first time once you realize you are just unloading ammo into some big-health-instakill-machine for every single strike, sometimes even twice a strike. Some bosses like this are okay, but they all are like that. The only interesting strike is actually the raid, so you have to have the best gear to fight the most entertaining fight in the game. Outside of strikes it is rep grinding which I dont want to go into how boring that can be.

Overall, Destiny is getting a 6/10: With such fluid movement, atmosphere, and graphics, I really feel like I shouldnt already want to sell this game, but everything else is just not appealing after logging another 10+ hours into it.

Destiny is a game with so much potential, yet it falls well short of the latest gen's "killer app".

Starting with the positives, of which there are quite a few:

MUSIC - The shining achievement of this game, the music that plays during fight sequences is EPIC. It sets the tone well, and is reminiscent of both HL (in terms of timing) and Halo (grand scale). For this game, they could not have done better here.

CORE GAMEPLAY - Bungie borrowed quite a bit of the feel of Halo, but the gunplay and fighting is excellent for a console shooter. Added elements such as jumping and supers add another dynamic to the combat, and all of this forms a rock-solid foundation to Destiny.

ART DIRECTION - The visuals and vistas are stunning, and go a long way to showcase the PS4's graphical ability. Destiny is a beautiful game to look at. Take a look around when you explore areas like the moon and you'll see great attention to detail: looking back at the Earth shows that it is rotating slowly, the International Space Station is able to be seen in the sky above, and it simply LOOKS like the moon.

NETWORK STABILITY - I feel that I should mention this because Destiny is a server-side game. Since launch, I have had almost ZERO problems with lag or downtime due to server volume. For a game that moved as many copies on day 1 that Destiny did, Bungie has done a terrific job at keeping things running smoothly. Other games (looking at you Diablo 3) can only dream of such a smooth launch day/week.

CLASSES - I've played all 3, and each have there own distinct feel and style. The balance between the classes in multiplayer is great: a Titan can do just as well as a Bladedancer Hunter in the Crucible. Each class has a subclass (for a total of 6 subclasses/skill trees), and I've enjoyed all of them.

By now, most of the gaming public knows what went into the development of this game. Massive hype, a developer with a sterling reputation, and a half-a-billion dollar budget. What was released though fell FAR short of what was promised...

STORY - There is almost no story to Destiny. You get revived by Dinkleberry, handed a gun, and told to fight the "darkness" because they are bad and they destroyed Earth. That is the extent of the Destiny story there and I'm not leaving much out. Characters will literally tell you that there were "massive battles and dark times" and then they'll go on to say "they don't have time to explain those things to you". Bear in mind that you could complete the entire story in a day or less, there was plenty of time to explain everything (or anything) to the player.

MISSION DESIGN - Here is every story mission in Destiny: go to this checkpoint, scan something, kill things, repeat that a few times, end mission. Every Strike mission (the dungeons of Destiny) is equally the same with no tactics to the bosses other than shoot-run-shoot-run. All bosses are basically bullet sponges...the only thing that changes with difficulty is how absorbent the sponge is.

POOR LOOT DESIGN - The Cyptarch is the faction in the tower that identifies items for you...but that ID process is completely governed by RNG. I have identified over TWENTY (yes, I'm counting) purple engrams, and from that I have gotten one Exotic item and the rest of them have been blues. At the end of the Strikes, the bosses don't drop loot. You instead have to wait until an "after mission report" where you will usually get just one item that will be well below the level of the strike. It is more efficient to shoot enemies that respawn in a cave on Earth than any other method in the game.

SCOPE - Simply put, this game feels small and compact. The main hub has just three small areas, and you won't see more than 10-20 other players around at one time. Exploration by doing the Patrol missions further highlights just how small this game feels compared to other MMO's...or just other shooters like this game (Borderlands). As mentioned above, the game looks phenomenal, but it's not very big and there is almost no incentive to explore any of it.

DLC-CENTRIC: Activision has done it again: they've taken a franchise with such promise and ruined it. Take a look at the E3 videos and videos during the development of this game. You'll see story. You'll see diverse mission structure. You'll see players talking to each other in-game. This game was gutted and re-structured to sell us DLC, which is something we've seen from DAY ONE. There's already some 20 or 30something dollar expansion "coming soon". Give us a full game.

I have a tough time giving such a poor review, because at it's core this game has such great potential. With patching, so many of these issues could be fixed...but I just have this feeling that we're going to have to pay via DLC for the game Destiny should have been.

It's so darn pretty. Smooth framerate (not sure if 60fps or not, but I have yet to experience frame rate drops), amazing visuals; the game is just pretty. The menus are easy to navigate and laid out well. The outstanding stops there. The gameplay is functional, albeit monotonous and not very original. The movement feels a lot like Halo 3, which would be a compliment 7 years ago when that game came out, but now it feels a little clunky and slow. Today, we should expect FPS games to have flawless, silky-smooth movement like Black Ops 2 or Titanfall (easily the most fluid FPS in existence). Still, it's not terrible. It's completely functional. The crucible (competitive multiplayer) can be fun, but frustrating. It is suffering from some serious balancing issues, but, overall, it plays well enough. It's enjoyable (it's likely a lot less enjoyable when playing by yourself, but I try to not play online games without friends anymore). The good/mediocre end there. Here's the bad. Weapons variation is almost non-existent. There are pretty much 2 different weapons for each weapon-class (auto-rifle, scout rifle, sniper, shotgun, etc). The "different" ones have the Borderlands effect, where they all are the same thing but with a different color scheme or slightly different weapon effect. However, I do like the weapon upgrade system, even if the game never explains how you upgrade them (you just kind of happen upon upgrades as you use the gun). The classes are pretty much different flavors of the same thing. They'll try and tell you that each class has a wide variety of different abilities, but they lie. Each class has a grenade, a special melee, and a super ability. All grenades are pretty much the same (they blow stuff up), and upgraded melees are kinda the same (you get knocked out from slightly further away), and all supers have the same endgame (all the dudes in a small area suddenly die). The Hunter's gunslinger and Warlock's sunsinger supers are really the only different ones, so I'll give them credit on that.
Let's get to the horrific, the down-right insulting: the story. The "story" (I use quotes because what they call a story wouldn't pass for a story in the terrible, cheesy books featuring Fabio on the cover lining the wall next to the register at Walgreen's). There's no story at all. You're a dude (or a dudet) who has a Robo-Dinklage sidekick, you travel around from skybox to skybox (fantastic skyboxes, however) doing boring, monotonous missions in the same area (at least 4 to 5 times per area; it gets old really fast) fighting the same enemies, and you're objective 100% of the time is to get to an area, plug your robot thing into a console, and defend the area. It's like they didn't try. The "strike" missions can be fun (extra missions at the end of an area in which you fight several bosses), but it makes me angry that the rest of the game's story isn't like them. It's like they were designing a Multiplayer-only game like Titanfall, but then realized that they should probably have some "story" to market the game's expansion packs on, so people think they're getting more than just multiplayer map packs.
Overall, the game isn't horrendous, but it doesn't live up to the hype. It's not a 2, it's not a 1, it's certainly not a 0, but anyone giving the game a 9 or a 10 is unable to get out of the trailers and the teasers. You're kidding yourselves. 6/10 is a very fair score for a game that I'm playing so I can give an honest review, and because several of my friends are still living in the world of the trailers and teasers.

I've played since october and this review is based on all of the updates up to this day.

Destiny in its core is a fun game that doesn't have too many bugs and playes well. The music is amazing, story feels interesting and the enemies are amazing, even if reused a lot. There is a lot of different weapons and abilities to use that are supposed to make the game more deep and interesting.

There is a lot of different weapons and abilities to use that are supposed to make the game more deep and interesting.

Now the problem: Destiny doesn't have a finished story. The two DLC that cost 30€ brought some useless info into the game, but didn't add to the actual story. And since the story is lacking, you'd want to play some Crucible (PVP) to spend your time. The matchmaking system is complete crap. You don't really see it in 6 vs 6 battles, but when you're put together with two **** players for hours without your actual K/D affecting it, it tends to make a guy mad.

That's not all. Bungie made a lot of changes to PVP by nerfing Auto Rifles, just because they were used so much and they decided them to be so OP that people didn't like other guns. That ended up making PVP into a game type with only 3-5 different primary weapons used and 2-3 secondary. If you try crucible, you'll propably be killed by these: Thorn, The Last Word, Hawkmoon (all handcannons), or Party Crasher +1, Felwinter's Lie and Matador 64 (All shotguns).

Bungies idea to nerf AR's to make other guns popular made it so that only these weapons are used and you'd rarely see some others like Red Death and the messenger.

This has been going since February and they haven't done anything to rebalance the weapon system.
I truly enjoyd Crucible prior to the nerf as you could actually see amazing weapons, but now that crap.

Due to the current status of Destiny, I've decided not to buy the Taken King DLC and propably not any other either.

Addicting but flawed to hell and back. They might as well have not included a story, it's incredibly weak. Server errors happen way too often causing disconnects. Other than that the mechanics are excellent and you can appreciate the work that went into the design.

Without hating the game I have to say it's pretty average. It took me about 15 hours to reach the max level (without rushing, normally I'm more a slow player). What really hurts me are three things: first the weapons are pretty boring and seem like CoD-copies. They look futuristic because of all that white but it's like playing with normal guns. That's disappointing especially if you think of Halo's creative weapons.
Second the variety of loot is pretty poor. There are kinda like 5 different shapes of how the gear can look like and in a grinding-focused game that's not enough. Also I really miss the feeling to explore and loot stuff in the world. Most times it's not worth it to leave the quest-paths simply because the world is pretty empty.
The last thing bothering me are the classes and stats. Yeah they got different grenades and skills but for the most part they play pretty similar and the fact that the most bonuses you can actually get are pretty boring 'reload faster' 'have more ammo' perks just doesn't make it any better. Say what you want but the variety of skills and passives in Borderlands is way better and less generic.
All in all Destiny is an 'okay-game' but it doesn't live up to the hype. If I had to choose again I would pretty much wait until it's cheaper before I try it but it really isn't worth a day-one-buy.

With the loss of Joe Staten, Lead Writer, a year before launch and the legal issues with Marty (composer) it seems that what we were supposed to receive and what we did receive were two VERY DIFFERENT THINGS. The game appears to have been butchered and bastardized by the monetization division of Activision - cutting all meaning out of the game to be sold in some odd fashion as DLC.

A terrible disappointment for those of us who actually thought that there would be something of significance in Destiny. I look forward to seeing what Joe Staten will do with Game of Thrones with Telltale, where writing is valued.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Im giving this game a positive review because I enjoy the game. However, there are reasons I wouldn't give it any more then a 6. This game is NOT an MMO. The lack of proximity chat makes this game a single player experience with other people. There is NO way to cooperate without actual communication and the emoticon controls are never used. I think this is a HUGE oversight. Another thing is the story. I honestly find myself struggleing to even care about the traveler or any of the "characters". When you first goto the reef and meet the queen, I litterally had no idea why I should care about her what she was doing or why we even had to do this besides progressing the plot. Which I am still not even sure there is a plot besides accept mission A, Do objective B then get a reward. With no continutity aside from MINOR story moving points that are achieved far between. I think the voice acting could have been better but thats minor. I think my major concern for the game is why the story sucks so bad? This is bungie for crying out loud. I cannot understand why I do not like the story. I don't even know what the minor goal for this game is besides push back the darkness which is incredibly vague. The story should have been the most important part but I just dont care about the literally 3 characters in this game. ANywho, the graphics are great, multiplayer is fun and I enjoy PLAYING the game a lot. Worth the purchase but I may hold off on getting excited on the next one until they can make me care to play the 20-30 hour story campaign. Expand

The story is practically non-existent and the little plot that is there is confusing. The dialogue is corny and even a five year old would find it patronising, the writer has done a truly awful job. The setting itself is actually fairly well designed, but the potential of the Universe they've created only multiplies the frustration that they've done nothing useful with it. Enemy designs in particular are interesting but soon get old and more difficult enemies consist of the same tired old designs with a yellow health bar or minor skin altercations to create bosses. The four planets are well detailed and each feels very distinct. The class system in Destiny is where this game excels, the breadth of variety offered throughout the classes and subclasses allows the player to experiment and is the only part of the game which provides a genuine motivation to keep playing the same bland missions over and over again. Bungie were once the Kings of competitive multiplayer on consoles and I'm sad to say they've well and truly forfeited that crown; Crucible is nothing short of a shambles. It's hard to know where to begin when critiquing it. I'll start with balance, or should I say the lack of it. While constantly in a state of flux from patches it's safe to say from release up until this point the balance in the Crucible has been appalling. Early offenders included the Blade Dancer ability which effectively turned you into a teleporting nigh unstoppable living lightsaber, this is one of the few problems which Bungie have managed to fix. The crowning achievement however among dozens of examples I could use was the Vex Mythoclast, the most unintentionally overpowered weapon I've ever seen in a competitive multiplayer first-person shooter all the way back to Goldeneye. The map designs aren't awful but many of them feed into a larger problem which Bungie have been unable to address; that shotguns are too powerful and easy to use. Allow me to explain, despite two attempts to nerf the shotguns at release and recently with a range reduction shotguns still manage to dominate the Crucible with players opting to almost solely use this class of weapon. They effectively work similarly to the shotgun found in the Halo games and in theory that should work, however this isn't Halo. The constant ability to sprint combined with several abilities such as blink that makes it much easier to close down your opponent without them having the opportunity to defend themselves make the shotguns undoubtedly broken. The entire premise of shotguns in multiplayer is that they're deadly in close range but the time it takes to close down your target gives the other player the opportunity to defend themselves. Destiny doesn't give the other player adequate opportunity to defend themselves and this is inherently the problem with shotguns. Now to get back to the maps, the reason the maps aid this is due to the amount of cover and obstacles that make killing an opponent from range significantly more difficult. With maximised recovery it is far too easy to escape any battle which isn't going your way and have another bite of the cherry a mere few seconds later once you are back to full health. The inherent verticality of some maps and the density of cover such as on Twilight gap combined with abilities such as Blink make escaping any time you come under fire far too easy. Players should be punished for making tactical mistakes and leaving themselves exposed but this is rarely the case in Destiny and it is one of the most forgiving competitive shooters I've ever played. The most clear cut and easy criticisms to make of the Crucible that require no significant amount of playtime to get to grips with is the lack of game modes. Four game modes is embarrassingly shallow for any game, especially one focused so heavily on multiplayer aspects of the game. To top it all off they add a fifth game mode every so often called Salvage as a special treat which feels more like a patronising and harsh slap in the face. Even with so many complaints Destiny's ultimate failure is that a game that revolved around the idea of bringing players together has such a barren set of social features. Clans are limited to one hundred members and there is absolutely no way to organise with your clan in game. Instead you must organise your clan from Bungie's own website, that in itself isn't too bad but the inability to even see your clanmates in a list in-game is unforgivable. The much touted Tower is also nothing more than a glorified dance floor where social interaction is limited to waving and kicking a ball around. While I wish I could talk more about this games many flaws and indeed it's positives I have run out of characters, as a parting note I'll simply say that the enjoyment will come from playing with friends rather than any intelligent game design. Just there. It's not a bad game and for some reason I keep going back to it just pushing a bit further, but none of the expectations I had for this game were met. Single player missions felt repetitive and the story still does not make any sense.

On the other hand, strikes are enjoyable and raids are challenging. And while we wait for the big November releases, this is an ok option.

    Halo? RPG? In your dreams.

    Here are the issues:

    - repetitive, numbing game play and mechanics (what you do in the first 5 minutes of game play is what you do on a continuous loop for the rest of the game).

    - 3 character classes that are basically all the same (and feature customization which is irrelevant because your face is covered the entire game).

    - Constant reuse of maps which are very basic to begin with.

    - Also, your Mass Effect is showing, Bungie designers. There are blatant rip offs of creatures (800lb. war hungry planet destroying heavies anyone?), weapons and mechanics. If you're going to rip something off, then you could at least put a new spin on it. Don't reanimate a dead game into a bad version of itself.

    - There are literally two plots in the main game: 1) Go here and stand by a thing and defend your droid while he decrypts the thing so you can go to a new thing. 2) Go down a dark hole and have a repetitive boss fight.

Re: story and character. I've completed the game and still don't exactly know what it was about. And I was attentive. Listening, watching every cut scene. It's apparent that little attention was paid to narrative which means no drama and cliche dialogue throughout.

Please tell me why you'd book a start like Peter Dinkledge and then do zero performance cap with him, relegating him to delivering exposition that would have been robotic even if he wasn't playing a robot.

Re: multiplayer. Forget it. Seems cool to roam around killing creatures with strangers but it gets old fast (especially when the respawn points are all the same). Even if you want to grind to level up, forget it. I was artificially stopped at lvl 19 because the game forces you to complete a plot and stop at level 20 until other criterion are met. Essentially, devoted players are handicapped.

Player vs. player multiplayer was fun insofar as it reminded me of Quake meets COD but it's nothing new and doesn't feature considered game design. Uneven player matching makes it more frustrating than your average online ganked n00b experience.

Don't buy this. Buy a pretty poster of the game art (which is wonderful). If you must buy it to see for yourself, wait a day or two. There will be a flood of used games on the market, including mine.

After grinding away bitterly, I've found a new enjoyment - simply enjoying the gameplay for what it is with a couple of mates is fantastic fun!

It feels like Bungie has built a framework for something huge, and sold it as a game by tacking together some gamey elements and hyping the crap out of it.

Positive: The gunplay, FPS feel, general gameplay is wonderful. The graphics and sound are excellent.
Negative: It feels empty and soulless at times. It's a feeling brought on by a distinct lack of depth to anything you do. Huge server wait times (some describe these as loading screens). Lifeless tower hub with only a handful of other players there. It's a very clinical, sterile experience.

Loads of potential, fun fun fun at times, but on the hole, a clinical, sterile experience, void of any real creativity, design direction, depth or emotion.

    Honestly?

This game doesn't deserve anything higher or lower than a 5 to 7. People giving it 10's are just stupid fanboys trying to justify their $500 + dollars spent on a generic Bordlands game, and the people giving it 0's are just autistic neckbeards who want to watch this game burn. My honest score would probably be 6. It's nothing new by far, and enemies feel like HP sponges

-The map boundaries in story are quite limited, not entirely open world.
-Loot and fireteam members are hard to find in story mode.
-Progressively less incentive to level up.
-AI is bad, winning hard missions involves exploiting it by finding areas where the AI will not go/be able to shoot you. I think the developers thought that making most AI ranged attacks homing projectiles would allow them to use basic AI shooting tactics.

If you feel like casual, mindless gaming which you can play whilst listening to music when you are bored then this is ideal. This is a good example of why maybe indie games are becoming popular (lack of storyline development over gameplay).

First the single player aspect the Campaign. Story or the lack of it is strange. Halo had an interesting background, good NPC and a well explored world. Destiny has no such thing. Yes there are the Grimoire but who reads it? Who ever made the decision to make it out of game was an idiot. Did you not play Mass Effect and seen it's Codex? THAT IS HOW YOU DO IT!!! The Speaker does no effort to explain anything just says words that have no sense. Missions have some background for why are you doing them but it's one of two go kill some guy or deffend Dincklebot. There is some customization and the RPG element is ok but it's not enough for a game that claims to be a singleplayer/mmo type game.
Story is short and boring with a lazy ending which screams DLC.
The MMO aspect is also weak. The matchmaking in Crucible is terrible. When I was lvl 10-15 being match against guys lvl 24+ is just stupid. You should be matched with people with a 2-3 lvl difference not higher. No traiding even with friends or with people in your fireteam? The socialhub is not impressive a lot of unused space which looks preaty and does nothing.
After patch the loot/engram drops are better now you have a chance to get something good from an legendary engram.
The gunplay is solid. It's HALO in it's best with HALO looking mobs. You have a lot of fun blowing up and killing stuff. There are not that much different guns but it's ok for now. Hope to see some more weapons in the expanssions or DLC.
The things I enjoy in Destiny are strikes, bountys and the reputation system. This Bungie did well. The Strikes could have been more varied but it's good. You feel the need to grind to get better gear, to kill the next mob/boss/ultra. There is great potential in this game. It needs more polish and content.
For now it's a 6 out of 10. Have fun playing it but the game needs more. Bought it new for 34£ and still on the fence if it was worth it or not.

Shamelessly addictive fps with some mmorpg elements. The content it does have is pleasurable -- the gear grind is overwhelmingly engrossing for a while, but it does contain some pretty heavy flaws. Although the game purports to be social there's no easy way to interact with people you're not already friends with. Social interaction is limited to a few emotes that are lacking in their usability -- wave, point, dance, and sit down. You can't communicate to people who you've not gone out and formed a fire team with, so Pugs are out of the question. Gearing is repetitive and grindy and involves taking a few hours to do all your dailies (which change but are taken from a small pool of tasks), or running around in a circle killing everything while searching for randomly spawning chests.

Online play is fairly fun, although map design doesn't scale well to the larger maps -- which can sometimes turn into large sniper battles. Control is the strongest type of play as it focuses combat by giving teams objectives.

But it's kinda boring now? I've done everything, and it looks like they're not focusing their attention on giving most normal folks new mechanics or content until the expansion. Kind of a shame really, there's a lot of potential in the big lifeless world they've created. It'd probably be way more fun if they opened up communication just a little bit.

If this was a one word review, it would just say "redbox."

You'll either save 58 dollars or not mind a small initial investment because you'll be hooked on it. I happened to be in the former camp. After two days, I had the story nearly finished and was almost at the point where I could start collecting the purple weapons...and by this point I had a voice in the back of my head

You'll either save 58 dollars or not mind a small initial investment because you'll be hooked on it. I happened to be in the former camp. After two days, I had the story nearly finished and was almost at the point where I could start collecting the purple weapons...and by this point I had a voice in the back of my head constantly screaming "why should I care?"

I'll start with the good, character and weapon design is pretty well done, it's standard sci-fi fare, sounds are a mixed bag, with some weapons sounding like plastic toys and others are viscerally satisfying. The lighting stands out particularly, shadows dance off the walls and seeing the sun reflect off a destroyed space station is breathtaking, although some textures tend to look plastic-y. Co-op can be extremely rewarding and the idea of running into strangers to tackle random events together is fun, although it's also Destiny's biggest problem, relying on others for fun. I have to draw a parallel with borderlands, where it can be even more fun with friends, but works just fine on its own, Destiny not so much.

On to the bad, what you've heard countless times is true, it is repetitious, and thinly veiled at that. Patrol missions are variations on 4 objectives, scan things with the ghost, go somewhere and scan things yourself (stand in one spot motionless) kill enemies, and kill enemies and pick stuff up. It's the same thing you do in regular missions without a boss enemy, and with less structure. It doesn't matter what material you pick up because the process is exactly the same. The 'Ghost' that follows you around and narrates your adventures is a mashup of cortana and guilty spark, so you'd think the creators would have done a good job on it, but the dialogue is cringe-worthy. I can't believe someone signed off on it with a straight face, although story is absent from Destiny, and it hurts the overall game because all the generically named enemies you fight are all just space fillers, and more often than not they'll either walk in a straight line towards you or stand there while you shoot at them to the point where you actually find one who dodges your attacks it's frustrating, the only purpose they serve is to help you level up, although no matter what level you are they give the same experience, and the difference between shooting a level 2 fallen at level 16 and level 3 is minimal, with damage appropriate weapons, although fighting a higher level enemy turns them into a bullet sponge and your armor into 1 ply toilet paper. The leveling system exists solely to hamper progress, and after level 20 to cater to MMO lovers. There are so many elements in the game such as ships that have no effect on gameplay whatsoever, and it all seems like wasted potential.

I could go on, and that's unfortunate, but there are some who will enjoy this game and I think you should definitely give it a chance, although to me it wasn't worth it. It almost seems like this game got rushed out the door to cash in high profile games being pushed back to next year and the story wasn't fully developed. I'd keep my eye on this series in the future and definitely give it another shot, but this one was a miss for me.

Its has fun gameplay and its fun to get into a strike-team with some buddies, but after a while doing the same thing over and over gets a bit old. But Activision says that this game has a 10 year life-cycle so maybe the game will get better. So for that reason im going to not return this game, Ill wait and hope that it gets better.

One big letdown, potential is there but its buried under a lack of identity. Story is an afterthought along with missions that are incredibly repetitive. I am confused. How can Destiny, one of the most hyped games of the year have so many missing features. Like a good story perhaps, with compelling characters? And there was most likely a story. But it has been ripped out of the game to sell as DLC. Now you might be saying where is your proof? Good question. Look inside the box. You'll find an expansion pass for £30. Need more proof? There are entire levels in the game that exist purely to set up DLC. NO! Apart from the opening cutscene the game never bothers to tell you anything about its universe. There's no explanation of anything! I don't even know the name of my character! I don't know how long he's been dead for! You are given no reason to care! The other worst thing about the game is its strikes. First off, the mission structure is always the same - wait until your robot opens a door, defend him against waves and waves of the same enemies over and over and over. Hell, they couldn't even be bothered to give them new area's, they just ripped them from the campaign. At the end of each strike there's a boss battle, which ends up being an hour long bullet sponge. So your expecting get really cool loot from that right? WRONG! All of the loot is randomly generated, meaning you could defeat the hardest boss in the game, and get crap! However, the game isn't all bad, and had some high quality features. For example the soundtrack is absolutely incredible, and I even died a couple of times because I was paying more attention to it rather than the game. This description can also be applied to the graphics and sound design. Everything is so immersive and beautiful that it's hard not to be impressed. The gunplay is great, with great impact coming from every shot, and the jet packs add a whole new dimension of verticality to firefights. Gameplay wise, the multiplayer PvP is the best aspect, with fast charges of chaos and madness. Destiny is a technical masterpiece, it's just a shame it's gameplay couldn't live up to that. Expand

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
