So I've had a few weeks playing this game, I haven't done the raid, but I feel I know the game pretty well at this stage.

Firstly I can understand all the negative reviews, but any score between 1-5 can be summarily written off as some form of message to their perceived disappointment, and not a particularly good indication of the game itself. This is not a 1-5 game, the game plays exceptionally well, and has no bugs i've come into contact with. Whilst the story isn't great, it does open up a world of possibilities. However, the mission structures are poor, and the campaign is little more than a 6 out of 10, so I completely understand those scores.

That said I haven't stopped playing destiny since launch, I haven't played anything else during that time despite having several other unfinished games. The game goes beyond the campaign, people say it's grinding but I haven't really found that. The Co-op strikes are a lot of fun and in the higher difficulties pose a real challenge. The events mix things up a little and have new modifiers on old missions that make them interesting to play again (although some new ones would be nice). The Crucible is also a lot of fun, and i haven't found much in the way of unbalanced play, obviously the lower levels are at a slight disadvantage but if they're skilled they will own just as much as the higher levels, the gear and skills will never make a poor player good (unfortunately for me at least). It is however a little limited in options. But the Co-op missions, crucible, exotic bounty missions, randomly finding ship blu prints, public instances etc.... All of these things come together to make a game that is well beyond the initial poor campaign.

Some people have asked why they should play the game for so long to get to the real game, that isn't really the case it's all the real game it's just some parts are more fun than others. Should the campaign have been a lot better? Yes! It was distinctly average. Should there be more mission variety, yes! This seems extremely lazy from the developers and I hope to see the under utilised vehicles and characters used to better effect in the future. That said these are things that stop it from becoming a great game, it is as it stands a very good one with some minor annoyances. You may not like this game at all, but it isn't a bad game and it has some moments that cannot really be found better anywhere else, so for that reason it comes in as an 8 for me.

A 0 out of 10 game means it's unplayable you **** morons. Angry halo fan boys getting themselves too hyped for this game then when it doesn't deliver they get butt-hurt and give it a 0 out of 10 while not explaining why. That being said yes, Destiny is a disappointment to the hype that was built around it, Obviously. But the thing is it's not THAT bad. Destiny offers a good amount of hours of entertainment. At least until level 20. The story is bland and uninteresting at best. Nothing is explained and you will often find yourself going "what the hell is happening?" throughout the story missions. Your character is given no motive to do anything he does and doesn't even really comment on anything going on around him despite being dead for who knows how long. The game-play is solid. Nothing special but done right. There are 3 classes to choose from. All three are very very similar with only slight differences in them. They all play the same except for the 3 main different ability's. Besides that it's all really based on what you want your character to look like. Do you want a robe for a warlock or a cape for a hunter. Maybe even some cool space armor for the titan. The games missions are really lazy. Almost every single mission you will play will require you to defend your ghost against a certain amount of waves of enemies. Usually 3. This does get tired some late game and you would just wish for a mission where you do stuff instead of standing there defending for the entire game. Strikes are fun even though there the same as normal missions but offer more of a challenge. But late game they will get repetitive as you must do the same strikes over and over to progress after 20. A lot of the game feels like content was taken out just to add it in for expansions later. I don't know if that is true but if it is i would not be surprised if it was activation that did that. Replay value dies when you hit level 20 because that point you have to just replay missions and strikes which all play the same. Just defend your ghost. I was very surprised when i found out that i just beat the game at the end. I was expecting more than 3 enemy factions and more planets to explore. The final boss and level is completely disappointing that you might not even know that it was the final level in the story. That sucks. During my play-through of the game i did find myself having fun while playing with my friends. I love the seamless co-op and random interactions with other players in the game. The graphics look good but i would have loved to see them if they were not held back by the PS3 and Xbox 360. The PVP is really fun and is the only thing that will really keep you playing the game after 20. I went into this game with low expectations. I refused to give into the crazy hype of this game and didn't really follow it at all. I bought it with a friend to try it out thinking it was just another Halo. To my surprise i had more fun than i thought i would have and got some good hours of game-play out of it. Yes its disappointing in a lot of areas and gets super repetitive real fast. But it isn't the 0 out of 10 people are telling you. Expand

Hopelessly hyped, but at least not overrated. It is a pretty solid shooter, albeit very repetetive. However, this game would take the crown for most asocial online only game if there was such a price to be had. Pointing and waving are pretty much the whole repertoire of interaction possibilities for people outside of your 3-man group ("Fireteam")

I have to admit i am very disappointed with the story mode or lack there of. For a game that cost so much money to make they could have least focused on story. Instead your told to go to point A to B, kill enemies and retrieve some item. Each "mission" i never really understood why exactly i was doing this. the repetitiveness is something you notice pretty early on.

The game is beautiful and the locations made me want to explore, but with the lack of loot crates or hidden objects, all you find are enemies which made me ponder whether there was any point in exploring these locations at all.
I spend most of my time in the tower than in the open world, which shouldn't be right.

All my fun comes from the multiplayer, playing with friends is highly enjoyable, kills feel rewarding, movement is smooth and the customization of the characters and weapon upgrades is whats currently keeping me playing.

Its not a bad game by any means but it feels like there's just something missing.

This is an update of my earlier glowing review. I still disagree with the initial round of bad reviews from major publications. They had the right scores for the wrong reasons.

For the single player "Destiny" is fun but not engaging. There are plenty of missions and on-line activities and shooting aliens is fun as it was in "Halo". There are no memorable moments from any of the missions. You escort Dinklebot to a waypoint, Dinklebot screws up, and you have to defend Dinkeblot from waves of attackers. The whole story makes no sense. Nevertheless, the first play-through is fun enough that most players will enjoy this portion of the game.

Bungie says the real meat of "Destiny" is the co-operative on-line content consisting of strikes, the raid which is now 2 raids after December, and also an arena mode added in May. In actuality, the real meat of "Destiny" is the meta-game of collecting in-game items to reach the highest level. This meta-game is severely hampered by a lack of fun and a lack of rewards. Most of the in-game items are dropped randomly, meaning that some players will never receive the gear deserve no matter how long they play. The best in-game items, the raid legendaries, are all dropped randomly. For each weapon or piece of armor, you need to grind for experience to unlock all abilities as if you are working a job and not playing a game for enjoyment. Worse, you quickly discover that most of the activities in "Destiny" provide subpar rewards at best, and there is an inverse correlation between the quality of the rewards and the amount of fun you have playing an activity.

Then there are the bugs. More than 9 months after release, the game is riddled with bugs. The connection to Bungie's servers is always flaky. Enemies and opposing players will freeze and take no damage. Then they may flit around the map with super speed. The two raids are especially frustrating because a litany of bugs can turn a 15 minute boss fight into hours of frustration topped off by sub-par rewards. Competitive multi-player is worse off because "Destiny" uses one player's console to host the game instead of running the game off of dedicated servers. Cheating through lag manipulation is as rampant as the lag itself.

Like many players, I have put hundreds of hours into "Destiny". They weren't all good hours. For ever fun moment there are many more filled with frustration over the bugs, heart break over the poor rewards, and mindless grinding all in the hope that one day "Destiny" will be as fun as advertised. If I could go back in time I would tell myself to buy another game. Of course I have made a good friends through "Destiny", and I enjoy playing "Destiny" with them. I wish we could all play another game instead. If you are looking into joining "Destiny", I advise you don't. If you picked up a used copy of "Destiny" for cheap, enjoy the single player experience and move on.

The concept sold was that you were to work on becoming "a legend" with little story or narrative and linear game play at this point I can really care less...and frankly there is absolutely NOTHING in the game that stacks up to that claim of becoming "a legend" outside of course kicking arse in PVP.

All in all if I didn't get hooked on the hype train and just happened to pick this game up being completely ignorant of the marketing I would give this game maybe a 7 and say this game should retail at 39.99 since it really is more of just a FPS with grinding missions...don't get me wrong some folks love that...but with all the interviews and videos that were presented leading up to this games release I really thought I was getting something special...something that would rival Mass Effect and Skyrim...sadly I was wrong. If anything this just proves that pre-ordering anything these days truly is a gamble that unfortunately most gamers will end up losing.

All the hype flooding the web about how this was the game of a generation and how we would never need to never play another game again. Yet the finished product doesn't feel finished, as though Bungie carefully implementing graphics and exotic character designs and rushed the other half by taking the combat and story out of literally any Halo of Call of Duty game and try to sell it as a "re-definition" of gaming. Its a shame really, because on its own merits, Destiny is actually kind of boring sometimes. You start the game off being revived by some sort of guide known only as a "Ghost" and learn that our solar system is slowly being taken over by an unknown substance known only as "The Darkness." You also soon learn that the Guardians are humanity's last hope to push back the darkness and win. If your confused as to what the darkness is and why alien solders known as the "Fallen" are trying to take over, then you are not alone. The game expects you to understand why all of this is happening, and also praises you, the player, as some sort of saviour of the galaxy. Except we already know that's not true because there are about a million other people who have been told the same thing. As you level up you keep getting flooded with new upgrades and weapon and armour unlocks, which is cool until you realise there is nothing worth keeping in the previous level. Since the challenge increases and unlocks even more loot, there will always be something you worked hard to get that has to go to make way for better things. Perhaps the most interesting thing about destiny is much it doesn't define itself from the soulless and bland shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield, despite looking like a refurbished and prettier version of Halo. The story of Destiny is flat, but I'm guessing that's not a good thing to speculate on, since all MMO's aren't exactly famous for having the most exiting and deep stories in gaming.

Overall I feel Destiny will just be another one for the bargain bin, but so long as Bungie keep regular updates and exclusive content coming in, it may be a while before we see that happen.

The shooting mechanics are good and PvP is fun. Graphics are nice and the Fallout-ish ambiance of the zones is compelling. The first few times you do a strike that's too hard for you with friends is a lot of fun. That's the good.

The bad is that everything seems really static, dead, and unchanging. If you kill a bunch of bad guys, they will respawn in the same place less than 2 minutes later (that's really how quick they respawn). It makes you feel like killing the bad guys is futile and irrelevant.

NPCs in the game only exist for one of three reasons: to give you quests, sell you things, or try to kill you. There are no squirrels running around, no civilians making smalltalk in alleys. You never see these people you are supposed to be protecting.

Destiny really isn't all that big. If you were expecting something as big as Skyrim, Fallout, etc, you will be very disappointed. If you count the square miles, Destiny MIGHT be bigger than those games, but it sure as heck doesn't seem it when you're riding around at a hundred miles per hour on your speeder bike thing or teleporting to different zones.

If you go exploring in Destiny, this is what you will find: dead ruins, and bad guys who will try to kill you. That is all. I love games that get exploration right: you are stumbling around in a snowstorm and you see lights in the distance, you go to them and discover an inn on the side of the road to rest for the night. Or you find a camp of bandits. Or it's a guy with a lantern. There is nothing like this in Destiny. You know what you will find.

In Destiny I never feel like I'm in danger in the open world (strikes and instances are a bit different). Enemies stand around in groups that stay in the same place as if they are shackled there. If you're fighting them and losing, you can just run away. They will chase you for a little while but then run back to their spot. If they do kill you, you just respawn with no penalty a short ways away.

Well that's what I think of Destiny. I don't think it's a bad game but I don't think it's a good one, either, and it's definitely not one I think it worth 60 dollars. If I could do it all over again I would not have bought it.

Unless you're willing to make this game your life just to grind gear capable of raiding and unless you're really jonesing for an archaic MMO style raid like BWL or AQ from vanilla WoW, take a flyer on Destiny and move on. For someone unwilling or unable to make those commitments, all they have to look forward to is a short, pedantic storyline, exceedingly repetitive strikes, and imbalanced, terrible, PVP matches.

It's quite a shame because the shooting elements are so very strong, yet the game is shallow for anyone not willing or able to partake in the grind fest. 6 out of 10 for being graphically stunning and with solid shooting mechanics, but it loses a lot for its terrible story and sheer repetitiveness

I was never a Halo fanboy, or CoD, etc. I've been anticipating Destiny more for it's RPG and MMO elements than seeing it as strictly FPS. The idea of exploring vast worlds and interacting with other players throughout a massive universe sounded amazing.

How it sounded, and how it actually is are quite different.

I can't really make the best comment on how Destiny stacks up with other games in the FPS space. As I said, FPS games aren't my top choice. But, I will say that I feel Dust 514 was a better blend of FPS and RPG/MMO elements than what Destiny seems to be in it's current state. If the Dust development team had the Destiny team's budget we may have gotten an amazing game, instead we got one game that was probably too overwhelming and unpolished for the typical FPS gamer. And, another that is all style over substance.

Destiny was supposed to have vast open worlds...it doesn't. I've died multiple times by jumping over a ridge I'm not allowed to jump over, not exactly open world, at least have the area surrounded by toxic gas or some crap so I know how limited my boundaries actually are. You can see these vast beautiful areas, but you're not allowed to venture into them. As I said, the worlds are beautiful and I loved exploring through the tunnels on the moon, etc., but that doesn't make a game great, IMO. And, it's certainly a game that overpromises in the open-world department.

Overall I would rate the game as such:

FPS - 8/10? I'm not an expert here, it might be a great FPS, I just don't really know. I enjoy the FPS in Destiny more than I have in most other FPS games I've played.

RPG - 5/10 It's cool to check out these planets, the story is ok if not spectacular. The real problem I have here is the utter lack of character customization and town type locations. There are three categories and very little ability to customize those categories. Experience gains lead to a very set path of upgrades with little to no customization except from gear. If you're a hunter (as I have played) then you get the exact same upgrades as every other hunter, for the most part. The fact that there is only ONE city in the game with vendors etc. is also very limiting from an RPG perspective. There can't be human outposts in other parts of the world? Small bands of brave souls couldn't have figured out a way to hole up and protect themselves in a rough frontier life? The decision to make the world home to one human city seems to be a bit of a cop out to me, even the one city has almost no real method of interacting with characters or NPC's. In a two-hour type gaming session I might spend three minutes in town. That's just stupid. In fact calling this game an RPG at all is somewhat of a joke.

MMO - 1/10 There is no interaction with your fellow players. No real guilds to join or allegiances to forge. The fact that other people are running around the maps is almost coincidental. Your interaction with them is no greater than with NPC's on traditional RPG's. It astounds me that gaming magazines and review sites consider to apply the term MMO to this game.

I've been playing Destiny since release. I hadn't heard anything about this game before I got it, and I've never played Halo before. I had no expectations before I started, and I saw right away that this game has potential for unlimited expansions.

The game looks pretty, and you get a feeling you're in the world of which Destiny takes place. A world based on the solar system. For such a small game, it seems very big, and it can expand as Bungie wants. The first and foremost feature of Destiny is the co-operation. You can play story, strike, raid and crucible with your friends. This feature is intertwined very well and is the strongest feature of Destiny alongside the visual graphics.

The crucible is the player vs. player part of the game, and most of it is entertaining. There are several modes to play, like Control, which is not so good, mostly because of imbalance in some of the maps, which makes it much more challenging just because you were assigned to the wrong side. The maps with the worst balance from my experience is Firebase Delphi, Mars and Blind Watch, Mars, in if you start at the wrong team, you get a much harder challenge to win. The Clash which is 6 vs. 6 is enteraining all the way, and usually never boring. The salvage I tried but the teams I've met have been so much more superior that I haven't really got into it enough to say how entertaining it is. Skirmish I have not tried yet, but it is 6 players everyone vs. everyone.

Controls in Destiny is not the best. Your run is on your control button, L3 by default and it seems a very weird choice after playing it for weeks. The rest of the controls seems fine.

The content of Destiny story-wise is crippled into the story already starting off the wrong way compared to what was planned. The breeds different stories are merged into one breeds story and there are cut-scenes taken out of the game because story is taken out of the game. The original plan seems to be ditched in order for this game to be released.

Destiny also have problems when playstation network is having problems, and Destiny also have problems with their own servers in periods.

Lagging players also causes issues to balance when they are lagging in crucible making games less entertaining.

All in all Destiny has a solid base to be something more, but currently is not.

Bungie also have a few things to explain with their current campaign Iron Banner and their Level Advantages Enabled, which according to experience and other players impression is so small that it can't be noticed for any difference. I also have this impression after hours after hours playing Iron Banner.

I don't know who's in charge of Destiny and what content it should have, but for Destiny to last, they should probably looks for a new coordinator.

    1) Gunplay is fun and fairly tight. Enemies are big and it is satisfying killing a large monster.

    2) Reward system provides incentives for any activity in the game to "keep you hooked."

    3) The polish, particularly on the character design, is very nice and noticable.

    4) Random events that occur during some missions, such as a giant monster appearing and a new objective to kill it for rewards, provide nice and unexpected changes of intensity.

    5) Battles require you to pay attention.

    Cons:

    1) the world feels very EMPTY and DEAD. This is a massive disappointment considering that it is an MMO-type game. I cannot understate how incredibly disappointed I am by this fact.

    2) After 4 hours, the story seems like they put a lot of effort in, but it never captures the pure whimsy and exploration I expected from a game with this much hype. Granted I still have many hours to go before I complete the main story, so this point might not be totally valid.

    3) There seems to be very little mission variety. Almost everything is a variant of "go to this planet, kill some enemies."

    4) There is very little interaction with the game world itself other than blowing stuff up.

    Summary:

Basically, take the MMO-type structure of World of Warcraft raiding or Diablo 3's bounty system (a "home city" with equipment vendors, currency points, reputation grinds, etc.), strip it down heavily so that it fits the masses without the complications and depth of 25-man raids involving 10+ classes, make it a shooter, and make it so that missions are launched from a world map screen rather than a continuous open world. That is Destiny.

If you've played WoW's endgame and think it will offer the same sort of depth, expect to be massively disappointed. Likewise, if you think it has the same crispness as a Call of Duty game you are mistaken.

This game is good, but it's not great, and it's not NEARLY the game-changer that I expected. I even bought a PS4 just for this game and I definitely regret doing so. If you already own a next-gen console it's probably worth checking out, but if you don't, DO NOT buy it for this game.

I watched a guy on there live streaming Destiny today for a good 9 hours and I have to be honest, this game is boring as hell. Oh, and I have no idea what the game is about. Lore? Sure lots of it - just never see it. Aka: BS. Remember this:

Destiny is Halo without a story.

Remember that kids because it's going to be said many times by many people over the next few months. The reviewers know that its a mediocre game but they have to hold back on reviewing it formally to give Bungie a few more sales - because they (the reviewers helped to convince us that this game would be amazing). But don't fall for it guys, there's nothing more to this game and I guarantee the reviewers (barring a few good ones) will come out giving this 9/10+...just like they did with Titanfail - and this is worse.

And before anyone says: "hey man you gotta give this game more time", all I ask is (a) "when have reviewers ever given more than a day to review the game and held off because a developer asked them to" and (b) "who needs more than 9 hours to determine whether a game sucks"? If it honestly takes me more than an hour to figure out that a game blows, then I think I've got bigger problems than a crappy game.

I'm not saying that it's a zero - it's not. But it honestly plays exactly like Halo with some minor customization (albeit irrelevant because all 3 classes play exactly the same way) and even has the same kiddie looking enemies (bright colors, etc.) just like Halo. But there's the problem - we were told it was going to revolutionize gaming. People won't forget that. It's betrayal. Consequently, I think this one will go down as the BIGGEST letdown and marketing fist-**** that has ever been released in the history of gaming - bigger than Aliens Colonial Marines. Companies will be sued.

$500 Million to make this? Let me rephrase that: half a BILLION duckets. Where do you think they're coming from? Check your wallet and keep it in your pocket. Do not buy.

This is the definition of white-collar fraud in the 21st century.

Destiny has no IP defining characters. The gameplay is OK but it gets very repetitive. Every mission is playing through the same areas 4-5 times every on planet. It gets boring after the first 2 times you play the missions on any given planet and especially when you fight the same boring enemies every time. Character design has lots of options, but all of the options feel rather bland. Also, free roaming is the same as replaying boring missions but with no rewards AT ALL. Most of the weapons in Destiny have similar names, feel the same when shot, and look almost identical. The multiplayer is fun to play, but other than that, this game is very underwhelming. It felt like I was playing the alpha build of the game again. If I have to backtrack on the first level in a game with no significant purpose, there is a problem. I will praise the awesome game-play and good multiplayer. Customization for armor and weapons is fun, but when it comes to the skill selection screen there is not much other than stat attribute boosts. The hubworld is boring and uninteresting and there is no consistent theme going on in the aesthetics. I played for 15 hours, never reached level 20, and got bored within the first hour. Game time as of writing this review: ~10 hours

    PROS:
    + Beautiful graphics
+ Solid, robust FPS shooting on a well built engine
+ Vast array of weapons, armour, customisability
+ PvP online play is fun (as you would expect from a Bungie game)

    CONS:
    - Very poor AI (enemies will stand by walls, run into each other, stop chasing you if you leave the room, etc. It's possible to defeat a lot of the 'bosses' by simply standing in an area outside of their designated 'arena' and pick them off slowly; almost like PS1 old school game-style)
    - Bland, repetitive, formulaic mission (consist of going to an area, shooting the enemies until they're all dead, move on, rinse & repeat)
    - Poor versatility in gameplay (adds to the previous point - Bungie's idea of bringing a new gameplay dynamic seems to be to give you the same objectives but half way through the mission make respawning less available. Other options include using vehicles and using a sword but as soon as you get involved and start enjoying these varied mechanics, Destiny stops you and tells you to get back to shooting the infinite waves of carbon-copied enemies. In addition, missions often send you back to the same areas over and over. Dull.)
    - Poorly written storyline
    - Poorly written characters and, as a result, dull voice acting
    - The need to be online for the story mode seems completely arbitrary and near enough pointless, with people just wandering around your mission doing their own thing, not really affecting you or helping you in the slightest
    - Multiplayer can be difficult due to much higher levelled players with much better equipment playing with you
    - Buying new equipment is difficult as most vendors only hold items that are out of your level bracket or too expensive (usually the former)

    CONCLUSION:

These a few other niggles but these are the glaringly obvious ones that have annoyed me thus far. It's unfair to give the game 0 - 3 ratings as this game is very well built, playing perfectly well and for me games that don't work should have these scores.

I feel as though a lot of people are being overtly harsh and upset with Destiny, however, on the other hand, those giving the game 10/10 need to reconsider their definition of 'perfection' as this game is far from that.

The user score (at the moment of writing this) is 6.4 and I believe this is a representative score for the game (however, the means by which the average score has been obtained with very high and very low scores is something I don't agree with).

Destiny is a solid, if not boring, FPS that does not revolutionize the genre as many had hoped. The MMO aspects are few and far between and don't have much effect on the game, with most sections being boiled down to the basic 'shoot-these-aliens-move-on-shoot-more-aliens' mechanic of what is a standard, run of the mill, very good looking, FPS.

The game itself is very pretty and the worlds seem nicely made, but they also somehow manage to feel empty. Most missions can be completed by simply hopping on your Pike (looks like a Star Wars speeder bike) and just boosting to the objectives. The objectives themselves are mundane and monotonous. Almost every mission so far has been: Start at the hub, go to x location, let the ghost scan said objective, defend him, kill a rare mob or mini boss, repeat. The missions seem pretty short so far, with the average time being 15-20 minutes per mission.

I have done two different Raids with a couple of friends, and each one felt pretty much like a story mission, only slightly longer being around the thirty minute mark. The main reason they seem to last longer is that the bosses are damage sponges. They have several nuke type attacks that can insta-kill you so you are forced to pop in and out of cover to take your shots. While the boss fight is going on, packs of smaller mobs seem to come out at intervals. The only reason I can think they needed to do this was to give you ammo drops for the damage soaking ability of the main boss.

The Crucible, or the Player vs Player matchmaking, is overall pretty fun but there are quite a few setbacks as well. For one, the classes Super Charged attacks are essentially one hit kills against players. To me, this makes the game a lot less competitive and punishes you for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There are no counters to these for the most part. Sniper rifles are very strong since the game has a strong auto aim feel to it. Getting headshots isn't exactly hard to do. Auto Rifles seem to be the go to weapon and shotguns for a secondary seem like the standard setup. The maps are pretty large and well designed. If you have played Halo, you know what to expect here.

In conclusion, the game is fun, but also very average at best. For the budget that was spent on this game, it screams underwhelming. Out of 10, I would give it a 6.

I also expected more levels. You can only explore 4 different maps in various ways before the campaign starts to feel like a dead end. Level design is good, but that doesn't change the fact.
My biggest gripe is without a doubt the story. It's absolute garbage. Nothing is ever explained to you. What is explained only happens in the 4-ish cutscenes throughout the entire game. I get that there are the grimoire cards that explain a bit, but to me that is a lazy method to take (to rely almost solely on anyway) and is a poor substitute for good storytelling.
Also, by the time I was done, it was pretty obvious that Bungie intended this game to be supplemented with DLC and/or a sequel since so much was left out and unfinished (this seems like bad planning, sequels should seem to come naturally, not artificially planned by the developers.

Some people truly thought that Destiny was going to redefine the gaming industry and be a massive step forward, but with overall horrible, boring, and repetitive mechanics, it simply isn't. People were expected this great and massive game with an extensive story and lore that you would enjoy to learn more about, a game where there would be some amazing characters, fun and exciting firefights, and a massive world. Destiny has about 3 different planets and the moon to go play on, each has some free roam areas, and normally around 5 missions on each of them and a strike mission which usually contains a cool looking but overall uninspiring boss. People have been really trying to call this game an RPG, but let's face it, it really isn't, it's not a roleplaying game where you are building your character to fit you perfectly, each time you level up you may unlock a new ability, but it's exactly the same as in a game like call of duty as to when you level up you unlock a new perk or something. In the end of the day, each warlock, titan, and hunter will be almost the same as any others you will run into, except for the gear and the customized face you designed at the start. The leveling system is nothing cool or extensive like in a true RPG, it's similar to that seen in Battlefield, Halo, and Call of Duty, except in this game the number is constantly shown above your head to try and make it seem more important! At the end of the day this game is obviously successful already, Activision has some great marketing teams to get people to want to buy this game, but that's the thing, that's the sad part. Destiny sums up the gaming industry alone, where cool commercials sells more copies than if the game was actually good and deserved those sales. Destiny shows that more money goes into marketing and just selling the game over passion and creativity to actually make an extremely good game. This game had a massive budget, but most of it wasn't actually used for better development. Games now especially those under a big publishing house like Activision are meant to make money and that's it, not create art, not to make the consumer happy, but as long as the money is made that's all that matters to them. It saddens me that new gamers will have to deal with this greedy, greedy market, instead of just enjoy amazing games. Expand

The idea is to group with friends to be able to complete 'strikes' which basically has you shooting a bullet soak boss for a long stretch of time. Here's the thing. If you don't have friends to play with, it's nearly impossible to get a group. There's no good way of communicating with all the people around you because there's no proximity voice chat. I could go on and on, but I'll spare you. As I said at the top, rent before you buy.

The hype on this game is a factor that somewhat killed it, however the game is extremely fun when playing with friends, Destiny will soon be due for updates which hopefully in turn will make the game better. 6/10 loses points for the story and many other issues. It is a mere mediocre game but a great timewaster when playing with friend, buy it for the cheapest price.

The shooting mechanic is the only real good thing about this game. However everything else is not very good, and a lot of promises Bungie made for this game are just not there. On the bright side the repetitive grindfiestival means you get to shoot stuff... a lot. But it doesn't provide much sense of immersion or purpose to go with the shooting.

I will admit it is a very visually striking game with many interesting facets to it, but is not a defining game for a new generation of consoles like many people think it should be. To me, it feels like an updated version of Halo for a new generation, which doesn't make it a bad game. But it doesn't mane it new or invigorating, either. If you were good at halo, you will be good at this game. If you were not a fan of halo, then you may want to look elsewhere for a sci-fi shooter.

So far, I am still enjoying the game, but I've only been playing it for around 10 hours and I'm not max level. I still have some stuff to do yet, but I'm not sure the game has enough staying power to last year's like some other franchises do. I found the narrative hokey and well-used, but the gunplay is tight and feels good, though it becomes rather repetitive after a few hours. The super attacks seem all but meaningless with the length of the recharge they have, so you may use them once or twice in a mission, but I rarely find myself wasting them in pvp. PVP does seem sort of imbalanced, but not overly so. Yes a level 1 can kill a level 20, but the level 20 will have bonuses from gear that maybe aren't factored in to leveling the playing field. Most classes play the exact same other than what their super attack does; non of the rpg leveling mechanics seem very different from one another. Which makes for bland encounters and, in my opinion, no reason to level more than one character.

Keep in mind these are just my personal opinions of the game, and though I find it a decent shooter, don't expect much depth. The world feels flat, lifeless since communication is limited to only fire teams which seems very un-mmo to me, just a single player game where I am forced to interact (or not) with other people in the same instance.

Very disappointed. It did not live to my expectations in any aspect. I've been following this game for more than a year. It did not live up to the hype. It will not "change the way we play games forever" like Bungie said it would. But I'm not an idiot. The games is decent, so I won't give it a 0 like many idiots have. All I can say is play better games than this.

Destiny, in its current state, failed to meet the content expectations I had after playing both the Alpha and Beta versions. This score is based on the overall experience, may aspects of Destiny are higher rated, but for a game that has been in development for as long as Destiny, I expected a better overall product.

The Crucible (player vs. player combat) is great fun and adds variety to an otherwise disappointing, rinse-repeat motto that is the player vs. environment (missions, strikes, and patrolling). Missions feel too repetitive towards the end of the game and I was ready to conclude the story before I even reached the end. Patrols and strikes end up in a mindless grind of the same content in hopes for an item with marginally better stats. Stats do not give you the same level of customization in other games of similar genres. Stats give no additional damage, armor, critical strike damage, etc. bonuses, instead they alter cooldowns on various abilities you have. Ultimately, it does not feel like your character develops beyond level 20 via gear upgrades in a traditional sense (e.g., games like Diablo, WoW, FF14, etc.)

To end on a good note, I think Destiny is worth the retail price if you enjoy multiplayer shooters. I really enjoy the Crucible. It is fun to unlock new skills and test different builds in PVP. Furthermore, stat optimization seems to have a greater effect in PVP where you may prefer using grenades more frequently or your special, etc.

Despite not meeting my high expectations as a worth, I think the PVP aspects of this game make it a worthwhile trip. It's just a shame you have to suffer through several hours of lackluster story and repetitive PVE to get to a level where PVP is more enjoyable.

First off, this is not an MMO. You will not find a persistent world that supports hundreds or thousands of players. Instead, it's a series of instances with loading screens in between. I've even ran into loading screens within the instances themselves while scooting around on my Sparrow.

Destiny certainly feels like a meld of great games I've played in the past, which may seem like a good thing. Unfortunately, I found myself simply wanting to play those games and not Destiny.

As I said, I really wanted to like this game, and had high hopes with the first hour. Concerns began to creep in when I realized I was routinely fending off waves of enemies while my Ghost scanned or hacked objects. Went to the Moon, Venus, and Mars. The only change I saw were the enemies I had to incessantly mow down.

I've since sunken in dozens of hours and currently sit at level 24. I just cannot take the grind anymore as the monotonous nature of the game only magnifies it. Killing bosses is not at all rewarding, literally. They almost never drop any significant loot. They're incredibly static fights that simply require you to shoot the weak spot for 5-10 minutes while fending off waves of lesser enemies.

Perhaps time will fix some of the issues I have with the game. But there are also issues with the game that I don't think can just be "patched" in.

For now, I have to go with a 6/10. It's not a bad game by any means... it's just not very good at this point.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny, a game that my brother was so hyped up on. The leveling system for the classes are great, it like having the ability to switch to a different style of fighting which I find unique in it own way as well with the gear having a special attribute that you level up by killing npc enemies, the npc fighting pattens may seem pretty mediocre but they also have the ability to overwhelm the players, forcing them to actually retreat rather then charging in like a bull in a china shop. Many would say that it is a boarderland and halo joint together but what they didn’t have is players joining in mid fights, special events that allow you to work together for a common goal which is why I like it.

Now here comes my part that made me have a dislike for the game. The pvp, basic shooting, snipers, campers, overpowered vehicles, now all that is cool but what got me was the players ability to use the super abilities that can literally AoE one shot a flag group, one shot a player no matter where you aim at the body. A player is tested by skill, accurate precision shooting, flanking the enemy to get them by surprise and head shots which we all love to bits but the one addition thing that I do like was the ammo caches for your shotgun, fusion rifles and sniper bullets but did they really need to add tracking on it. It made it too easy for campers to kill unexpected enemies to simply press square and be head shotted by a sniper as you are trying to get special ammo or heavy ammo.

The story, well I liked it so far but I do believe that the story is smashed up into pieces like a broken mirror. The interact with the ghost and the player seems pretty dull, the missions seem pretty repetitive, kill, kill and oh yeah more kill. Also it would had more better if they had placed old vehicles in the battlefield rather then being able to summon a ride to anywhere, players like to be dumbfound by finding something pretty awesome like a old car, or bike but a hover bike that you can just summon seem like we giving the players less work. Also the grimoire that you collect should be put into like a journal as such to gain information is to access your ghost in-game not out game which is where it can annoy players who like information handed to them with ease then having to log in to a website.

I found the grinding after I hit level 20 to be the worst part of the game. Either grinding in PVP or playing the same missions over and over gets boring.

EDIT: This review was written while I still thought there would be more than 10 hours of actual content. Once you beat the campaign, the "content" was merely repeating the same levels and enemies to get gear until you can finally get your numbers high enough to do the raid. Naturally, I was really salty about this. Destiny is not a traditional MMO. The world is sliced up into planets, with the tower on Earth being the hub. Buying, finding, and selling gear is incredibly streamlined, but there is not auction house or trading between players of any kind. The Economy in Destiny is purely based on Player-NPC interactions.

So why did I give the game a 9? For one, the enemies are really well designed and incredibly diverse. There are different factions of enemies you'll encounter and each requires a certain strategy to deal with. To describe three of the many factions: There are your standard halo-esq enemies with a blend of snipers, grunts, and heavies; There are your Zombie esq enemies that consist of zerg-rushing zombies and pot-shotting generals; And there are slow-moving teleporting enemies who use horde tactics to overwhelm players. Combine these enemies with varying terrain for different combat scenarios and the game rarely get repetitive.

The gun-play is incredibly refreshing in this age of standard modern-military shooters. The fast movement speed combined with the relatively slow projectile speed of the enemies weapons will make you duck and dodge constantly. Additionally, the hip fire on many of the guns is surprisingly accurate, to the point where it makes more sense to use hip-fire and retain mobility rather than use ADS in close combat situations. Finally, the melee attacks can often dish more damage than the guns themselves. In point blank situations, the best strategy is often to use melee and gun together in a sort of one-two punch that is incredibly satisfying.

The mounts are a joy to ride. Players get a speeder bike very early in the game that can take them from one end of a map to the other in minutes. Unlike other MMO's whos mounts are controlled by a simple point-and-go system, the mounts in Destiny are actually physics driven. The maps are also designed so that you'll never be going straight for long, as you will constantly be weaving between rocks and other obstacles. If you ever watched the speeder bike chase in Star Wars VI and wanted to play that, this is your chance.

The PvP in the game plays a lot like the original Halo trilogy, except you choose your weapon loadout instead of scavenge weapons. Players start out with only ammo for their normal gun (assault-rifles, pistols, etc) and special gun (shotguns, snipers, etc). Throughout the match, players can find ammunition for their heavy gun. The weapons players bring are the weapons they find in PVE, with the damage output scaled to be even. The only disadvantage for low-level players is the lack of abilities gained from levelup. All in all, Destiny's PvP is the Halo 4 multiplayer we were looking for.

I've heard a lot of people say the game is "grindy," and that the gameplay just consists of "go here, kill mobs, go there, kill more mobs." To that I say "what were you expecting?" Every first person shooter in existence can be described this way. The game, at times, can feel easy but every mission has a hard mode attached to it that is often overlooked. Playing on hard mode on a mission your level is a challenge similar to playing halo on Legendary.

All in all, Destiny is a mediocre MMO, but a Superb shooter. Playing solo is quite fun, and playing with friends is a grand experience. It is well worth the price of $60, especially when compared to other games of a similar pricetag. If you like Halo or other shooters, and don't care about MMO elements, then buy this game!

I really want to like Destiny,I really do.I tried to stick with all the things that are unpolished, thinking that at some point it will finally be the game we were promised.
Let's start with the good stuff at first. The game looks beautiful and sounds beautiful.I really like the UI design, which I think is clever in its navigation.I really like the look of gear and weapons.PvP is fun,as expected from the guys who made Halo.Combat is okay, but nothing new. That's it.That's all I can say about being good points of Destiny.
Now let's look at the bad stuff....
There is almost no story. There are bits of information here and there, but overall you won't care about it.It could be explained in one sentence:You are a hero so save us,go there, then there, destroy that, you win.
Another thing is the voice acting.Even though it's pretty solid, the character that speaks most,The Ghost,is just bad.
Every mission in this game could be described like this:Go from point A to B,deploy Ghost, guard him against the waves of enemies, kill the boss (if not included in those waves),end of mission. The game feels so repetetive that it feels like they just copy and pasted it.The Strikes were the worst out of them.Strikes could be described as a longer story mission with same objectives, but now with annoying bosses that have just too much HP.You don't even need to think about a stratégy for them, just hide behind something and shoot. There are only 6 strikes at the moment (5 if you play on Xbox platform) and all of them are annoying to do.(Dust Palace, the PS exclusive Strike is so annoying that when people get them in Strike playlist, which is something like a roulette of all strikes, they immidiately leave.)
I finished all story missions and strikes in about 20 hours of gameplay on hard difficulty, which only means that enemies have even more HP and come in bigger hordes. After this it's just bad, only thing you can is repeat the story missions and strikes,or do PvP if you like doing it.
That brings me to another really bad thing, the servers.I expected this somewhat, because this is a problem that all always-online games have. You get kicked out of the game a lot.My friend got kicked out of the last story mission seconds before it ended, which means he had to do it again from the begining of the mission.(We did it on very hard,so it was really annoying).
Another issue I have is that the loading are really long. You have to load pretty much everything and it takes a minute or more in every instance.(it's really irritating when you just want to quickly go to Tower and then go on a mission)
Now let's talk about PvP.This is the best part of the game,as it's really fun to play and I spent most of my endgame time last week playing Control and Rumble.Only issue I had was that because of bad servers, there is a big lag. Most of the time my meelee killed my opponent after he killed me,even though he should have died before me.Sometimes it isn't even recognised and even though I hit them,it does no damage and I die because of that.Hopefully this will be fixed, other than that the PvP is fun.
The social aspects of this game are awful. You can't communicate with other players if they are not in your fireteam and you only have four emotes you can use.The proximity chat would be really nice, but I guess we can't have everything...
And now for the most annoying thing in whole Destiny experience, the loot systém.It sucks,it's just bad.You could be playing a story mission for level 2 or doing heroic strike for lvl 20+ and you have about the same chance a good item will drop. And when something good finally drops, you have to take it to Cryptarch on Tower to decrypt it.The only problem is that even if you have a legendary engram, you will get really bad stuff most of the time.Is there any other option to gear up?Yes,there is,but with the problem being you have to farm reputation for hours and hours and hours on those repetetive missions you already completed. The entire endgame is just a big farming session that will annoy almost everyone (I play a lot of jRPGs,so trust me,I don't mind grinding or farming as long as I see some progression, but this is worse than in any game I ever played).
Other small thing that annoyed me are the facts that there is no map system it the game,no trading with other players,no selling of things. But these are just minor things that are not that bad, even though it's a pain in the ass without a map or without an option to give your buddy a weapon of the type you don't use but he does.
So this is Destiny as I see it.You can see laziness of Bungie everywhere except the graphics and music. The PvP is fun,but lags a lot.PvE is horrible, with only few things to do and ridiculous farming it requires once you hit lvl 20.It's really sad to see this, because this game could have been the best Sci-fi game ever.

From the start of the game, I must confess - you're immediately drawn to the edge of your seat. The gritty action in the early parts which have you LITERALLY running for your life (or resurrected life) get's the blood flowing and your heart pounding. Yet once you're immersed into the storyline of this game, which happens to be fairly bland, you at some point just lost the "Give a Damn" to even know what you're fighting for. The race to level up your character soon takes over, and that is your Main drive - even away from the laughable storyline. To add to the ridiculousness even more, the campaign is brief. I remember yelling into my microphone at one of my friends, "Is that it?" Yet it's obvious that Bungie aimed most of their focus for Destiny on the Fashion of the game and the gunpaly. By both of these I mean, the attire which you find yourself constantly grinding to find, and the weaponry - which no matter how much stronger your weapon is, the game still keeps you at a level. I know many of those who are past level 20 understand what I mean, when you're up against that same Boss that you've faced 50 times, only to find out that your NEW and STONGER weapon - really doesn't do much. Then comes the constant failures and shortcomings that Bungie is becoming known for within the game. NPC's who's items are supposed to refresh after an alotted time, placed near the bottom of the screen, or Harder Boss levels that you will DEFINITELY LOSE* due to the game being designed so you don't succeed on such difficulties, without at eleast failing once. And I could go into the horrible truth of how repetitive this game is, but I'd rather hit on another topic that makes one question how half a million dollars could go into creating this game, and the ONLY thing they could come up with is invading into a tomb, crypt or Vault - to take on - YOU GUESSED IT - another Boss... Usually much larger in size and far more dominant than the foot soldier's that you face getting there. Perhaps even MORE annoying than this, is the fact that Bungie actually thought that they could make a game, and pull a Rockstar... By this I mean, continually add to the game - as the player progresses - AND STILL keep it fun. I even heard it mentioned on one media source. that the plan was to make Destiny run for at least a decade with the added content. Yet I tell anyone looking to get this game... give it a week IF THAT - and it will run out of gas. My advice to Bungie, on the other hand - if you're REALLY thinking of selling the DLC content and all of the extra's due to be released... ... . . dont. What Destiny needs, is to regain fans that have been put-off by this game. A good way to do that, is to grant them free items since everyything within game - is such a struggle to attain. Expand

Speaking of wastelands, the world feels empty like in Id’s Rage. That game at least had more satisfying weapons/combat, ran at 60fps with remarkable fidelity and had some amazing facial tech.

I could go on further about the unbalanced and laggy PVP, terrible loading times, and other always-online irks, though instead I’ll finish with Roger Ebert’s summation of another expensive flop.

"The cost controversy aside, Waterworld is a decent futuristic action picture with some great sets, some intriguing ideas, and a few images that will stay with me. It could have been more, it could have been better, and it could have made me care about the characters. It's one of those marginal pictures you're not unhappy to have seen, but can't quite recommend.”

At first that is exactly what this game brought me. Late nights and blood shot eyes with my roommate. The game play was addictive. The graphics full of vibrant colors with a smooth glossy finish. The tight gun play. Ah all of it was great and most of that stuff is what keeps me from giving this game any lower of a score. The game just sort of dies. I feel like the game completely falls off. The game has no story, which can be fine. Look at how great old school video games are with minimal story, but Destiny is set in a universe that needs that depth. You listen to nothing but disembodied Peter Dinklage ramble on as your too busy trying to actually play the game. I missed half of what he said. This sort of storytelling just did not work for me. (There are occasional cut scenes. They are terrible) This is a video game though not a film. This lack of story was a flaw I was willing to write off. Until I reached level 20. Bungie pushes the fact that you'll be playing this game for years.... yeah maybe if you shell out all your cash for every expansion. The game has a max level cap of 30. You hit level 20 strictly by experience points and then level 21-30 comes from collecting light which comes on the armor you earn. The system for this leveling is completely broken and the mechanic that destroyed the game for me. Every single mission before level 20 was all about me making that progress. I felt every mission would make me a stronger guardian. The reason the light system is so broken is because it deals away with hard work and progress and replaces it with dumb luck. You could complete 3 strikes, essentially dungeon crawls, to obtain high level rewards and come out of every single one of them with absolutely no loot whatsoever while the guy you walked in with goes up 2 levels from light and he stood in the corner of the map half of the strike while you do all the work. How is that supposed to feel entertaining? Sounds a lot more like some people's mundane jobs where the lazy guy takes all the credit and the hard workers get nothing to show for. I can not continue to play this frustrating game because of this. Don't even get me started on some of the stuff you put up with during darkness zones while having "teammates" (random people you get stuck with who can sometimes be so bad you wish you could kick them, but you just can't. This is not an MMO why are you forcing me to play with YellowMoldeCheese?!) After beating all the main missions I am left with an unfinished game. I can't level up by doing anything other than playing the multiplayer or repeating previous missions. The previous missions get repetitive because now its not about gaining xp and grinding from killing enemies its only about beating the mission as a whole and hoping to god that you will pull out one piece of armor with just enough light to get you to the next level. It becomes time consuming and bland. The multiplayer has a few modes all of which feel similar with only slight variations. The lack of maps are stupid. The option or lack of an option to play any local multiplayer whatsoever is saddening. There is just nothing to keep you into this game past the 6 hour time it will take you to reach level 20 and by the time you've finished it that just doesn't feel like enough. The game ends so abruptly that they are forcing you to buy the DLC just to see how the main game ends. The story ends with not even a cliffhanger. Just sort of someone telling you oh this game hasn't even started. The entire length of the story in the main game didn't even have enough content to have a second act. The game is just act 1. That is the only reason Bungie and Activision think this game will have such a long lifespan is because they will be putting out DLC forever before you can find out one more tiny detail to this completely lack luster ambiguous story. Destiny was a great game in the start but the longer I delve into it I began to really see how under-developed the game was. Destiny is a lot like Fruit Stripe gum. You put it in your mouth and it is amazing and you wish it could last forever, but it quickly becomes stale and the next thing you know you're ready to spit it out. The game can give you great entertainment for 6 hours and hey that is great, but you can get that by renting it. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this game. Rent it. You'll save yourself a lot of frustration. Expand

The multiplayer is fun at times, but quickly becomes repetitive, with no option to choose which map you want to play on which is annoying. Some of the classes are hugely OP too, with people spamming class abilities for kills.

This isn't a terrible game, I just feel it's been over hyped. And for the reported huge budget this game had, the end product should be better.

Hype, hype, more hype, TOO MUCH HYPE! This seems to be a more common theme among games these days. E3 comes along, critics, journalists and gamers around the world go mad about what little content they have been shown of these games and proclaim "future game of the year", "best game at the show" etc etc. Then, when the game finally hits the stores and everyone has had some time playing it,Hype, hype, more hype, TOO MUCH HYPE! This seems to be a more common theme among games these days. E3 comes along, critics, journalists and gamers around the world go mad about what little content they have been shown of these games and proclaim "future game of the year", "best game at the show" etc etc. Then, when the game finally hits the stores and everyone has had some time playing it, they wonder what the fuss was about, myself included.

Now it might seem like I am being overly cynical about Destiny, but I was one of the previously mentioned gamers who bought into the hype and could not wait for this game to come out. September seemed like it was never going to come. My first few hours with Destiny were good. The worlds are excellently crafted, there has obviously been a lot of time and effort that has been put into making each planet feel unique and the graphics in general are wonderful. The lighting is a true highlight, while each environment is extremely colourful and pretty to look at. The high quality of design carries over to the gear and weapons. While there may not be that many unique models, everything is futuristic and appealing. The planets themselves, however, feel empty. There is no real reason to explore the environments bar the few loot chests scattered around which, if you ask me, usually aren't worth your time. You seem to travel all around these gorgeous worlds with not a lot to do until you hit the next pack of enemies. A lot of the time when playing this game I would think to myself, "Where did the $300m actually go?". Destiny does not feel like the most expensive game of all time, when in fact it is.

The missions are good to begin with, but within a few hours you realise, "I'm doing the same stuff again and again just in different places". Destiny can become extremely repetitive extremely quickly. The story is completely meaningless and not interesting at all, so it's not as if you are just hoping to finally get somewhere and for the grind to have meant something, because sadly it does not. If you don't mind doing the same **** but on different days in order to get the best loot then you will not have an issue, but I require that something extra, that reason to carry on, I want a game to make me relish turning on my PS4 to play it, and I'm not sure Destiny will have that appeal in the long run.

The main selling point of Destiny is its combat. It is superb. Enemies are intelligent, they search actively for cover, they make you move around the map to try and get at them, and in a lot of instances they can be quite tough. You have to be careful when going for an attack, you can't just charge in like a bull in a china shop, there is some strategy to planning your next move. It is also very fast paced so you need to be on your toes when engaging the enemy. The enemies themselves are well thought out, they each have their own weak point and have various sizes and degrees of toughness about them. After level 15 you will have seen it all to be honest. Boss battles are a bit of a let down. They are simply just bullet sponges who take a massive, almost exhausting amount of time to kill and usually the loot isn't really worth it (until you can do the raids at high level that is).

I haven't spent enough time on the PvP to give a fair critique about it, but so far it seemed pretty fun, if a little unbalanced.

Overall, I think it is unfair to say that Destiny is a bad game, because it isn't. It's just not as good as we all hoped. There is room for improvement (Peter Dinklage could at least pretend to be interested if he is voice-acting in the next one) and I believe that Destiny 2 could be fantastic. Lets just all try not to hype it up too much OK?

I expected more from fathers of epic Halo franchise. Destiny fails to introduce its great universe to player. Storyline is really poorly narrated. Gameplay-wise, game is addictive, but aside from farming to obtain legendary loot, there's nothing to keep me playing. Overall, story mode feels like introduction before main events in game world, disk 1 out of 4, like back in FFVIII times))) But unfortunately there's no disks 2,3 and 4. I fell for the hype train and in the cold light of day, this game whilst mechanically sound, has fell short of the epic it proposes to be.

It was a bold claim, dare I say audacity to claim that this would be up there with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars for its story and longevity.

As I said previously, mechanically its a sound game, but then again let us be honest, its Halo mechanics, story wise however it is very poor with a high degree or repackaged repetition. It relies to heavily on a grimoire external to the game itself, if people have to leave your game to get the story, unfortunately from a design perspective, that constitutes a failure in my book. If you put old and new games (Halo and Destiny) side by side I would choose Halo.

Looking back I would not have bought this in the cold light of day, I think I made myself believe the Beta was a small sliver of something huge, sadly its the entire game near enough, and only the background changes.

MP is fast paced but unfortunately the class powers do not balance overly well as you do not get the cohesive units working together like you can in a strike, hence certain class powers which work in concert and defence are overshadowed by one hit guns and cloaking.

I feel that another AAA game has been a disappointment and in 2014 I am still waiting for the big AAA to appear fulfilling its promises. This year has been a better one for smaller studios who have kept the corporate mind-set well away from their creation.

    Thanks for reading.

Why? Why in an "MMO" do I not have the option to matchmake for EVERYTHING?! If I want to do ANYTHING beyond Level 24, I have to go onto Forums asking for people to add me so I can add them to a Fireteam so that we can do anything beyond this point.
This game is so unfinished I have an armor shader called "18327496-64703388" instead of having a name! I do not expect to be playing a game and come across such glaring faults, that are so easy to fix that it's already in other parts of the game (you can matchmake for PVP and lower level strikes but for some reason they've taken it away here!!!).
Now, for the good stuff. The music is incredible! I want the soundtrack to this entire game now. It is gripping and adds such ambiance to the entire game that it might actually overshadow the game-play at times when you think "That's it?!" after beating a boss.
The art, oh my sweet lord, the art is amazing. I was with my friends in a Skype Call the first time I was on the Moon and as the level loaded we all fell silent in stunned admiration as we looked around.
This is about all that is good. As I said, with friends this game is quite enjoyable.
Alone however, you will find yourself raging and pushing yourself through the endless grind.
End game content is the EXACT SAME GRIND that you did to get to Level 20, just at a harder difficulty.
The true end game content at Level 26 when you get the raid, can't be accessed and is nigh on impossible unless you have 5 other friends with you who have also managed to reach this point in the fog that is the endless grind where I still don't see an end with a level 25 Titan and my Warlock and Hunter which I only play when my friends are on.
I'm sorry. I truly am to people who like me were expecting more. But if you don't have a group of friends who are willing to play this game with you, or you don't want to play with people you just met on a forum with teamspeak, I implore you, do NOT buy this game.
You will waste your money, you will waste your time and you will just lose more and more faith in game developers as you see more games release a game, but scrap half it's content so you can pay for it as DLC later.

    Destiny – Quick Review
Destiny is the most anticipated game in recent times, with the hype for it being unreal. This also led to it being the most disappointing game in recent times. Let me say this now, Destiny is not a bad game, but it falls short on a LOT of aspects.
    Story
The campaign – what there is of it- was incredibly dull. With missions where you go to point A. Deploy Dinklebot and shoot through three waves of enemy’s. Go to point B and rinse and repeat. Now for the first few hours you can look past this, but you start to quickly realize how boring it is to keep doing this over and over again. Without any real plot to keep you interested in scanning the 50th machine and listening to Dinklebot tell you about more things you have no idea about, the campaign lacks anything worth your time or money.
However the graphics are truly a feat worth mentioning. This is worthy of the title “next-gen” when it comes to the visuals and textures.
    Gameplay
Something Destiny does perfectly is the gameplay. This is how a first person shooter should be played on a console, with every move you make feeling precise and bad ass. With all the different styles of playing, within each class, gives a lot of variety later on down the level progression.
    PVP
This is the main reason I’m still playing Destiny. Although it feels unbalanced at times, with more one-shot mechanics than you can count. There is no denying it has that feeling of pure Halo multiplayer fun. With the ability to ride your sparrow on most maps gameplay feels incredibly quick and you’re never missing out on the action.
    PVE
Strikes are a ridiculous excuse for “MMO Dungeons” most consist of barging through the same waves of enemy’s you spent the past 7 hours killing, to then get to a boss known as the “Bullet Sponge” who will eat your bullets for the next 20 minutes. Without any real tactics other than hide behind cover and poke your head out every time you finish reloading, and trying to deal with the unorganized constant swarm of adds coming your way, strikes feel like a terrible attempt at trying to make a shoot em’ up dungeon.
    Loot
Loot is the main aspect of Destiny, and as an MMO player this is the aspect that excited me the most. The loot system in this game has received a lot of slack for being unforgiving but I don't agree. People are angry over spending ages working hard for an engram to only get a green or a blue when they desperately want a legendary. However, it is clear these people have never played an MMO before. Doing the Siege of Orgrimmar for 7 hours and getting no loot for it is literally hell compared to just shooting in a hole for a few hours to get a bundle of engrams.

All in all Destiny is a solid game with a bright future ahead of it, but because of poor choices and seemingly lazy development from Bungie it does not deserve the hype that surrounded it. It’s just another generic shooter that failed at being unique.

I will start off with the positives, the gun and movement mechanics of this game are fantastic, and rival Call of Duty in terms of smoothness and feeling and this makes for a good, and responsive online mode, i.e. The Crucible, and the graphics are mind blowing, especially on the Moon, and the music will go down as some of the best produced music in video game, and sometime blow away the action that is happening on the screen.

Unfortunately the flaws and messiness of this game outweigh the positives this is when Destiny stops looking like a Bungie masterpiece and more like a Activision tragedy, we'll start with the basics that they got wrong, there is very little story, and the story that is there is mediocre at best, which is protecting the earth from a darkness, such a Sci-Fi cliche, and there is a severe lack of cut scenes or character/development, which competitors such as Borderlands seem to excel at with fantastic characters and a good story, and after Halo you expect a decent story line, you could make the argument that this is an mmo, but mmos such as Guild wars 2, and WOW have a lot of lore and a decent story.

The next major problem is the lack of variety, what I mean by this is the mediocre missions consist of finding something for the ghost to hack into then clearing three waves of enemies, EVERY SINGLE MISSION, and you think to yourself if this will get any better SPOILER: it doesn't, repetition can work in the music industry, not in the gaming industry. Then there are the enemies when you look at mmos they have a vast array of different enemies to kill, unfortunately in Destiny there are four very similar factions, the fallen, the hive, the vex, and the cobalt, each with around 3 enemies you will see alot, and throughout the story and beyond, you will be tired of killing vandals and acolytes. Then there is the SEVERE lack of loot, you will be tired of coming across rustburner after rustburner opening blues, you will be tired of Galahads, and this is a crime for this type of game, with borderlands having loads of unique weapons, and literally 100,000 of combinations, and WOW having over 7000 weapons, with destiny only having around 10 in each class, it will literally be hours before you have duplicates, which fyi you cannot trade in a social game, another issue with this is the boss system, the sole purpose of bosses in this game is to sponge bullets the bosses are so easy, all you do is hide and then shoot whilst he isn't shooting you, they have no different patterns other than shoot, shoot, and maybe a missile, even games in the NES era has better bosses, there are also no stages, it doesn't do anything different when it's low, absolutely appalling.

Another issue I have with the game is a lack of interactivity between players, as I mentioned previously there is a lack of basic features such a trading or voice communication in crucible, and if you are on your own, as friends may not have the game, or your system of choice you will be unable to do things such as the vault of glass, or the weekly, as there is no matchmaking system for these things. Which is a crime for this type of game.

Another MAJOR issue for Destiny is the absolutely abysmal looting system, it is a type of looting system where players choose to sit at a cave shooting endlessly than do bosses, crucible, or replay missions, where you are not rewarded for your actions in the crucible as appalling players are giving exotics, whilst the top players have the exact same chance as an afk player, and doing things such as strike does not give you a viable chance of getting gear.

Let's talk about the crucible, and how it is the only thing saving this game from instant irrelevancy, it is fun, and can feel rewarding at times, however, with only 4 modes, and 10 maps you will soon get bored, as it does not reward you in gear, and once you have the PVP Armour there is no point in ever playing it again, as no matter how well you do there is nothing to reward it such as exotics, also there is some really big balancing issues such as the shotgun and autorifle being by far the best, and the titan and hunter being the best classes.

I know things are subject to change but for right now I cannot justify a recommendation to purchase the game, and I would say keep well clear until better content, or a sale.

To begin with some of the good qualities that Destiny has the game has great graphics especially on PS4 and Xbox One. Secondly the firing of weapons feels good aiming down sights isn't too slippery or too tight,so shooting fells fine. Now on to the things Destiny lacks,Destiny has basically no story at all their is no characters you care about like Peter Dinklage as your Ghost or that speaker guy who could tell you about the lore and history of the game but chooses not too. Also after level 22 the game really starts to piss me off, to level up you have to get light which is found in armor only problem is That for some people it will be rather easy to level up for others extremely hard but why you ask? Because the game has a Random Number Generator meaning almost all gear you get in strikes, multiplayer raids is all random you could do **** in multiplayer like die 17 times but get an Legendary while someone does good and gets 20 kills and no deaths gets nothing. and the campaign the missions on every planet are the same your Ghost scans something and you go into horde mode and fight waves of enemies. They also have Grimmoire cards which are cards that you can read online at Bungie .com and its just story that was cut from the games that you can read online and some of it is actually cool like how the Cabal can move entire planets but that's not in the actual game because **** US! So at the end of my review i give destiny a 6 because it has fun multiplayer and strikes but leveling up past twenty is a **** and this whole game is just grinding so in closing buy Destiny when its 40 dollars or just rent it for five days just don't pay for it full price i don't know so go play Shadow of Mordor or read a book just do something fun before you go insane like me from pouring 30 hours of you life into Destiny Expand

Playing through the campaign with a buddy is the most fun I've had on my ps4. It was all down hill after that. I'd give the game a solid 9 for first impressions. Gameplay feels polished and is exciting and tense. Challenging yet accessible. Graphics are decent. Best lighting I've ever seen. A bit too cartoony though
The end game is terrible and repetitive. Short and unfinished campaign.

Light leveling system is the worst leveling system I've ever seen. Once you hit end game you need light. You get light from armor. All other stats on armor become moot at end game. Before end game you can pick and choose which stats you prefer and build your character. At end game they introduce the light stat on armor and that's all that matters. No more choice or build or customizing. Terrible

One stat "light" is supposed to hold me as I grind match after match with loot drops being totally random and not dictated according to skill? What is my incentive for trying in any match? I'd rather just stand there, and be carried and hope something good drops. I have played for a solid week with ZERO progression of my character. Loot drops for me sure, but it is not as good as what I already acquired A MONTH ago. This game reeks of publisher medaling. Thankfully, this game has a 35.00 trade in value at Gamestop. And let's face it... who is going to be playing this when Call of Duty Advanced Warfare and Halo MC drops?

If anything... Destiny 2... if there is one... should learn heavily from these mistakes. This is the last time I will ever be burned by a game that was really, if you think about it, entirely sold on hype. Nobody on my friends list.. of about 200 people... is playing this game. Most have gone back to BF & Ghosts. So far.. 1 year into this generation.. I am not impressed with what has been presented to the community.

The story is vapid at best. The strikes are all the same "Go here and kill this guy" formula. The story missions are just as repetitive. Missions on patrol are bland. If you love RPGs because of the immersion you get from the rich story telling and the lore, you will not get that here. Anybody who claims this is flat out lying to you. This game has virtually no immersion at all. It is a dressed up shooter with some RPG elements. I really hope this is resolved with future content.
The most disappointing thing about this game is its unrealized potential. They should have ditched the Grimoire and put those resources into writing a decent story. Everything is in place for this to be a great game, but as it sits, this game is just a good game.

Ugh, this game was a gross disappointment with an embarrassing lack of content... That being said I can't rate it too low, because I did spend weeks obsessively getting better gear to get my hunter to level 29, so, in pure hours played, I suppose I got sixty bucks worth? It just should have been more fun.

With Destiny 2 around the corner I thought I’d give the original Destiny a try to see what all of the fuss is about...
And apparently it’s the expansions because it’s not here in the base game...
And with activision shutting down multiplayer modes for those expansions the month this review comes out I’m not going to even bother them...
So while I’m sure Destiny is now this great experience with all its ad ons...
I’m going to just talk about the base game which is a repetitive and boring joke…
Destiny is a competitive and cooperative online only first person shooter where you play as 1 of 3 classes and create your own character
As an aggressive player I played as a titan..
There are 2 bases in this game that you turn in your quest progress 2, get new missions, fork out your real life cash for any weapons that are worth anything from loot boxes and get back to the grind of being a guardian…
    This game is co op...
But through my entire 9 hour journey in story mode I only had team mates in one mission…
The story mode is practically dead…
So you’re going to have to grind through this excuse of a story mode yourself…
Worse is that all 9 hours take place on the same 4 maps…
the missions just take your deeper into these maps each time..
There are some loot boxes here that are like playing a game of where waldo to find them...
so I just stuck to getting my loot from missions and enemy drops…
Leveling up in this game gives you upgrades for your grenades and suit
though the game doesn’t seem to balance in terms of xp if you are playing alone so late game missions are extremely frustrating..
I was playing through the final story mission at only level 14 because of how slow the game was handing levels out because it assumes I’m going to grind through boring story missions over and over or that I’m playing with other people…
I felt like I had to keep playing in these annoying no respawn zones over and over that would reset every time I died…
But these missions are all the same thing of bring up your ghost, go to a point on the map and shoot all of the stuff until there’s no more stuff to shoot rinse and repeat..
There is a competitive team based mode of 6vs6 like call of duty which is the best part of Destiny as a base game...
Here level advantages are taken away, but you’ll level up way faster than the story mode, you’ll get loot drops, and you’ll have way more fun doing it…
IF you were thinking about giving destiny a try before destiny 2 comes out there’s absolutely no reason to
there’s nothing here worth your time
    Give Destiny
    a 6/10

The game has its share of server glitches. Bungie continues to tweak guns for pvp, often overdoing it. The reward system is a tad daft. You can't play the character you choose and expect to max out your level with skill. It's luck. The game gave me gear for classes I was not playing and so my chosen class remains at 29 and the secondary characters have gear that will level to 30. I added these characters simply to make use of the gear that dropped for them.

People with more skill and more hours than I have get barely any good drops and are also thwarted from leveling up.

While the dlc is held out as more content is coming, it is hard to see how a few more maps and a raid are going to patch up the non existent story and barren gameplay environments.

And sound. How is it that huge monsters can stomp up behind you and not be heard?

Destiny is a hugely ambitious game and with that it is also hugely flawed. Though going through story missions and raids with a team of friends provides a bit of entertainment, the loot system bogs it down heavily, making playing Destiny past level 20 a maddening chore.

Graphically, Destiny provides some of the best artwork in a game set in a new sci-fi world I've seen. Vistas on the different planets of our solar system are wonderfully and beautifully created, and leads one to want to view them rather than actually play the game itself. The story that players wander through, as there really is no overall story arc that is particularly compelling nor provides adequate reasoning for what is happening throughout it, is lackluster at best, and seems to have been completely ignored as nothing more than a tag-on rather than a main sell for the game.

Where Destiny really shines is its combat gameplay mechanics, with the combat feeling fluid and, for lack of a better word, right. Player vs. Player is one of the more compelling reasons to play this game, with the combat feeling more balanced than one would expect. While there are certainly advantages to players with exotic gear fighting lower levels, it is not in such a way that there is no point to joining in on it. As well as that, the various classes are interesting, if somewhat too similar to one another.

However, beyond this, the overall game itself reminds me of a massively-multiplayer game in regards to all of the bad things that come with them, with little of the benefits. Load times are frequent and long, maps are notoriously small for what they were perpetuated as being, and the Strikes and Missions offer little enjoyment after the initial run. Too much grind for too little gain is the best way to put it. Truly, the only thing that kept me coming back was the PvP, which too has lost its luster.

Overall, Destiny isn't a bad game, but it is nowhere near being a good game either. Rather, it's average, with some moments of brilliance, and other, far more, moments of poorly thought out choices and gameplay decisions.

Speaking of the campaign, the storytelling really and I mean REALLY fell short of Bungie's standards. 90% of the time I had no idea what was going on and why I was killing countless waves of enemies and bosses which are just "bullet sponges" with virtually no special attacks. To start off, both Destiny's sound and visuals are excellent. The soundtrack is brilliantly put together, and is backed up by spectacular scenery - most notably on the moon. Animations and effects are well done. Glitches are infrequent at worst in normal game-play, and the game definitely doesn't suffer despite the lack of 60 frames per second (as it shouldn't).

The core game mechanics are solid. Movement is smooth and fluid while shooting is well refined and satisfying. Both aspects do of course have similarities to Halo, but that isn't at all a bad thing.

However, beyond the basics, Destiny does have numerous issues. Firstly, there's no reason that a game of its genre should have a ground breaking story-line. The truth is that the majority of the target audience don't want it. But that still doesn’t excuse the half-baked attempt at a story that Destiny gives us.

Barely anything is explained. What happened to the traveller? Why are all of the guardians dead at the start? The game sets itself up to explain its background, but never does. The whole story in the end feels pointless; as though nothing has really been achieved. There’s not nearly enough time to learn about the characters let alone care about them. In-depth character development isn’t necessary, but there needs to be at least a little to make the story worthwhile. Destiny has near to none.

Bungie may claim that this is merely the first chapter. Destiny has numerous expansions to come, so while you might not feel any sense of achievement yet, you will. The problem with that is that this was a full price release. To package such a lacklustre, unfulfilling story into a full price release is criminal. Without paying for Xbox Live/Playstation Plus, the campaign is all you get, and it definitely isn’t worth the price on its own.

Sure, the Grimoire cards on Bungie’s website explain everything you want to know about Destiny’s universe, but why should you need to visit a website? Needing to leave the game to get a full experience is poor design, full stop. Destiny began with the ambition of immersing the player in a rich new world, drawing fantasy together with FPS to create something fresh. Instead, you’re left wondering what your purpose in this new world is. You’re left wondering who all of these random and mismatched alien races are. Why did they come to Earth? Why did they attack humanity? What happened to leave Earth in ruin? None of it is properly explained.

Even beyond the campaign, the lack of content is constantly apparent. While every area is beautiful, the fact is there are only four (excluding The Tower). To add to this, the game barely encourages exploration, and so there’s very little point or enjoyment in it. At later levels, you’ll find yourself killing the same few dozen enemies time and time again. You’ll be repeating the same few dungeons (called strikes) over and over hoping for a chance of good loot. The enemies soon become boring to fight, as well. They lack variety, and bullet-sponge bosses are infuriating. You could take on the raid for a more advanced challenge, but you’ll need five friends with Destiny to be online with you to be able to access what is without doubt the best developed content in the game. Destiny’s promise was that it would have a lifetime of ten years, but sadly many people will be bored within ten hours.

Levelling in Destiny also comes with problems. To advance past level 20 you’ll need to collect armour pieces with the ‘light’ stat, but the loot system is punishing. After level 20, all loot is completely random. You collect ‘engrams’ in the world which you then decrypt to receive an item. Engrams have different tiers (rare and legendary) but beyond that you get a completely random piece of loot. Even better, if you decrypt a legendary engram you have a chance of getting an armour piece for another class which you can’t even use. As a result, levelling beyond 20 is based almost entirely on time and luck, not skill. That’s an issue.

Moving away from the co-operative aspects of the game, PvP is good. The difference in gear between new players and high level players isn’t ideal, but is easily tolerable. You can also use PvP to get loot, but again it’s random, so don’t expect a 5.0 K/D will earn you a legendary engram.

All in all, Destiny has solid foundations, but the rest needs some work. It is by no means a bad game. It has been put together with more care and attention than most releases of the past few years. However, it isn’t revolutionary, and at times it struggles to simply be enjoyable. What’s sad is that it had the potential to be great. The ideas were there, but the execution missed the mark this time. Perhaps, in time, Bungie will fulfil their promises, but that time could be some way away.

It has some solo content and it has some public boss killing fights, but other than that, you are going to wander around aimlessly with next to no story line, and oh yeah if you have friends on your console who have the game as well, they will bug the ever lovin dog out of you to join their fire teams.
I'm not giving this game a zero because it IS well made, but it isn't well constructed when it comes to quests or story, and if you're looking for stuff to do, after a short while ( a week ), you're going to have a bad time. -VERDICT: Destiny is a fun game and great social experience for those who want the most out of their PS4. It has beautiful graphics and smooth gameplay but the story is just plain terrible. If you like a social experience and like to try a fun game while it may last you a short while try this game. For an overall score of 7/10.

Destiny was one of the only games I have actually pre-ordered. The visual look of Destiny is pretty amazing, with its competitive PVP aspect being a huge part of the game itself. However, it was a let down. The story only took a few hours to complete, and was no where near long enough. The game became a bore after the story, and I only managed to get one Guardian up to Level 24 before quitting on the game for good. I was too over-hyped from the start, had a pretty much wasted budget of $500 million, but the best parts were during the first month or two when I could enjoy the missions, the story, the soundtrack, the visuals, the gameplay without it being boring. If anything, it is NOT worth $60, but is worth playing for a little while as it has been fun. Expand

Destiny seems like it's designed to see how little content a game can have and still keep players active, with endless grinding and slot-machine tactics.

Destiny is a fun online shooter.
It offers a boring and completely dispensable single player story but the real deal is playing online against other players. There are a few different game modes and even fewer are actually fun.
It has some rpg features in it also.
It looks pretty good and is fun to play.

Before I can even start with my review I must say that this is the first time I have played a FPS game, therefore I don't have a point of reference to compare to.
However I think Destiny is an OK/average game if you don't know what was behind its development.

Once you know the investment and all the things that were promised by Bungie/Activision you have to say this is a complete failure.

The game play and dynamics are pretty cool, very intuitive.
The graphics are also next gen standard and very detailed.
However the content is very limited and missions are very repetitive.
There is nothing new that Destiny has to be offer.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
