I waited a year before i bought this so i would have the extra dlc with it and it (in my opinion) is still an empty game. the pros: The gameplay is fun for a few hours and then it gets stale, if you like the combat in halo then you will like the combat in this but this drags on and i mean grinding away on. Underwhelming in every way. Bought the game back in 2014. Played it once, put it on top of my shelf and left it there for several months and forgot about its existence. Vanilla Destiny was like that girl who looked cute, but then you see how uninteresting and tiresome her personality really is, and you regret that you ever had anything to do with her to begin with...

Enemies literally spawn in the exact same spot, non-stop, as long as you are not standing directly under enemy spawn points! All you can do is grind for hours to get better armor, emblems, and weapons that are often worse then what you already have, and that is it! The only story options force you out of the game, and require you to go Bungie's website to get backstory, and that is not done in MMO's! All backstory should be done in game by NPC's! The NPC's are cardboard and boring! The game ends by saying there are more bad guys in the universe to beat! This game has much more to prove its moniker of a MMORPG! In many ways, it comes off as an over-produced, pretentious, kinda boring version of Borderlands. Very disappointing. Also i do not understand why the campaign should be always online ??

Destiny is one of the most bland and over hyped shooters I have ever played. This games story is an absolute joke and a major disappointment. This games story is an absolute joke and a major disappointment. Bungie created such a unique and interesting world and there is minimal if any background information on it. Most of my time spent walking around it's meaningless environments I can't help but think that this is some kinda of beta and the actual game with content will release soon. The only hint of a story line is the ghost character that narrates along with some of the most boring gameplay I have experienced.

Gameplay is simply run to point A kill people, run to point B kill people and then fight a boss at C to magically and abruptly finish literally each and every mission. The repetition is so awful and each planet feels like a firing range scattered with bad guys who respawn in the same spots every few minutes. The gameplay is extremely uninspiring it could infact be the ultimate cliche of shooters since there inception. I can't understand how Bungie could release such a lame duck when compared to their previous Halo Franchise.

AI behavior is laughably brain dead and the only reason they pose a challenge is due to the number of enemies thrown your way or the amount of health the stronger types have. The only reason to ever play this game is to equip your character with better gear. Be prepared to repetitively play the same dull scenarios over and over just to get a better item. If killing the same enemies for hours to get a new gear piece is your idea of fun then you will be at home. The competitive multiplayer is the games saving grace but once again it is nothing to write home about. Everything in competitive multiplayer has been done to death as it offers nothing new to the table and I'm sure most players will put it down once that new game sensation wears off.

Overall Destiny is a pathetic cash crab by Bungie in my opinion. I would be the first person to sing this games praises if actually was a real game. However as of now this game is an absolute joke and easily one of the worst games I have ever played.

BLUF: "I don't have time to explain" is a quote from the game during a so-called story moment in a cut-scene. My low opinion: There is no actual storytelling in the game, so the excellent visuals and good gun-play mechanics mean nothing as you cannot emotionally invest yourself in a world which doesn't care to ever explain.... ANYTHING.

it's always full to look at the profiles of people scoring this 10/10, most of them seem to have a singular review, for this game in particular - nothing suspect about that. Destiny is the prime example of what happens when business men try to play pretend as creatives, spending more on marketing than actual product and think that terrible one-liners equals good gameplay.

Destiny is the biggest rip-off on the ps4 yet. It features just 4 planets with a single 'level' each to explore. Missions on a planet all take place in the same area and consist of 'go from a to b and deploy a ghost, kill everything that lives' and the mission's done. Weapons don't feel as if they had an impact and your skills are a joke from the angle of originality. Once you hit level 20Destiny is the biggest rip-off on the ps4 yet. Weapons don't feel as if they had an impact and your skills are a joke from the angle of originality. Once you hit level 20 levelling works by the 'light'-stat of found gear instead of XP gained, which makes gear choices very obvious (take the new gear and level to even get the chance to find better gear, no matter what its ability is). A story doesn't exist at all, apart from 2 (or 3) low quality cutscenes there isn't one. Not to mention the lack of any memorable character in the game, maybe the ghost itself might be highlight...

Going to PvP, the sentence 'become legend' really becomes a fraud: No long-term stats, no PvP-leaderboards, not even something to achieve or unlock there. Not even statstics of your own game. Bungie, are you freaking kidding us?

No matter from what perspective, Destiny didn't deliver and suffers from a huge lack of content. Greatest job Bungie did was the marketing.

Don't get me wrong; especially because I love shooters as well as sci-fi this game screwed up on a massive scale. Shame on Bungie, this will definitely leave a scar. Maybe the game was a 5/10 if not sold for 70 bucks and having been announced a milestone by Bungie itself...

It's not a fully-fleshed massively muliplayer game, nor is it an impressive single player game. Destiny feels like a game that's lost, never staking its claim and finding its own place. I find that it often feels unfocused, like Bungie set out to do many things and didn't excel at one of them. It's a hollow game, lacking life, lacking feeling. Where to start off... I have spent the last 2.5 weeks playing this game SOLO (only using matchmaking and playing with randoms without having a mic) every single day, doing most bounties, getting to lvl 28, getting a bunch of exotic weapons, done everything in the game except for the raid (DeeJ, you can do everything in the game, it doesn't have endless content).

In my minds it's an FPS with MMORPG elements, making it a hybrid of the two, but mostly being an FPS where you do the same stuff over and over to get better and better, where you will hopefully enjoy the game more and more as you get better at it and figuring out stuff. But after figuring out most tricks, you'll get constantly annoyed at the ridiculous AI, sudden appearance of enemies because of the absolutely terrible FOV and getting randomly killed by the classic modern way of doing position tracing, where the enemies will always hit you if you go at the same speed all the time. Even when you're doing lots of random actions which should avoid all of it. (The Shock Rifle is the dumbest weapon ever to be given to an AI)

You can tip-toe through a lot of the missions by running away from the battle, into "safe-zones" while being in a "darkness zone". But then you have the absolutely horrible way of dealing with those places in the Strikes. The game spawns additional enemies to "take care of you" if you go outside of the designated room, which should be closed from the start. The best example of this not working is in the strike "The Nexus". The trick here is, you can stay up on the tall ledge and snipe all the minotaurs to spawn the boss. While doing that, a SINGLE major minotaur will spawn behind you. Which spawns every 20-30 seconds, being easy even when doing the weekly heroic strike on lvl 28 solo. Then you can just stay up there, using a scout rifle, picking up the ammo you eventually get from that minotaur and complete the strike EASILY with a lot of skulls. This also comes up in the story mission "Scourge of Winter", where you can avoid fighting the boss in the end by just simply using a few sniper bullets to the head, then walk in, which causes the door to shut, which then causes all the enemies to get killed because the boss is dead. Easy peasy. The QA of these parts feels non-existant.

Speaking of the "story". As a frequent MMORPG and FPS player, I don't care about the story in those, unless there's something really interesting in a cutscene of some sort, then I'll NOT skip it. In this game, with absolutely no interesting story, no attempt at character personality development, Dinklbot saying stuff that doesn't make sense, out of context or is just a general blablabla of how every generic sci-fi story is made, I CAN'T SKIP THOSE. AT ALL. Not only did Bungie not even attempt a story, they are pushing the boring-ass cutscenes down your throat. That's unnecessary downtime. Having to wait for a useless cutscene when doing the same mission for the 3rd time the same day is not fun. Time is valuable.

Now moving on to the core of the FPS. The weaponry. All the guns, make the same noise. They're all the same. They feel all the same. The stats and descriptions usually don't match the actual handling of the weapon. Which wants me on to the worst part of Destiny.

Crucible. "Level advantages disabled". My ass. Not saying that the PvP is easy, but damn it's easy... IF you're owning legendary and exotic gear and weapons that supercharge the super, the weapons and everything. Why aren't those disabled? All of the perks you have, why are those enabled? Shouldn't those be classified as "level advantages" as you can't use exotic/most legendary gear before you reach lvl 20? Not like it's difficult to get to lvl 20, but it IS time consuming to get the gear.

Also I want to mention the amazing PvP experience.

Shoot someone until they die, but doesn't, then you trade kills even though you had a lot of health remaining, then you get the message that you got a kill 3 seconds later, then the game is stuck at respawning for 5 seconds with no explanation to why, then you see an enemy with a super, then you immediately die.

That's all of the bad stuff about PvP compressed into one sentence. The amount of lag is ridiculous. Battlefield got bad lag, but this just takes the cake. Congrats Bungie, you somehow made trading kills the most common thing in this game across all games. Do people enjoy that? I really don't think so.

And the expansions. No they're not expansions as they don't expand the game with entirely new areas. Ridiculous. They're just two mediocre DLC.

For some praise to the game. The concept of "Destiny" is great, just poorly executed. The Exo design is quite nice. Bounties, patrol missions, public events are also great.

To sum up. This entire game has been an annoyance and a continuous grind most of the time, which makes me wonder why I played it this much.

(I thought of checking the box for spoilers, but how can you spoil anything in this game?)

The enemies are almost cut and paste enemies from halo, just with a different model. Don't kid yourself, they're all the same, the react the same, they do the same things. The multiplayer is very dull and the load times give you plenty of time to go make a sandwich. They're worse than television commercials. Travelling to the Tower is the worst, since it's needed to go there often to deal with gear and vendoring, missions, etc. Alot of this could have been achieved through a menu system rather than making the masses sit through loading screen after loading screen.
The world feels dead. It is not an mmo by any means. It feels very forced and unnecessary, the experience would have been better in a Monster Hunter style. Have a hub, space travel load screens (rather than having the home screen being your ship floating through space, which wastes time just to have the "aw shiny, and look at my friend's shiny ships"), have more interesting enemies that have actual hard mechanics and movements, etc.
The pvp is also very drab. It's very cookie cutter with the added "hey i can also casts spells". The experience is more or less a downgraded halo experience. I'd rather have an actual arena shooter than a COD style shooter.
Overall, this game is a wash and I only own it because I wanted a shiny white PS4 (would never have bought it otherwise, given the history and overhype behind it).

The graphics are nice, music is good. There is SOME fun to be had - I've enjoyed strikes to an extent. Certainly not enough fun to pay $60 + DLC costs though.
In reality, this game is probably closer to a 6 or a 6.5 / 10 than the 3 I am giving it. HOWEVER, I feel like Bungie/Activision has planted multiple fake users on Metacritic that are giving this game 9s and 10s so I am trying to level that out. Many positive reviews look canned and not from the heart - I don't believe they are real people with their real opinion. GRANTED, this is just MY opinion, but look at all the 9s and 10s - something is fishy... And the game is not a 10/10. It's just not. Regardless of whether you have fun playing it. This game is a cash grab, and I feel kind of ashamed that I fell for it...

It looks like Halo and plays like Borderlands, which is bad considering the huge bucket applied for this game. It's a huge disappointment for me. The multiplayer is good, the "story mode" is boring and bland. The worst of it, by far, is the hype they gave us, for this? What a huge disappointment.

I feel like I've broken the oldest rule in the book and succumbed to the hype train badly for this one, I finished the story mode for this today and I was so disappointed that that was it. It seriously was like they ripped half the game out to sell as DLC and just filled the rest of what was left with uninteresting bullet-sponge boss fights to drag out the playing time. All you do once you hit the 20 level cap is grind grind grind (the SAME missions).

It's so repetitive, the missions are linear masquerading as open world. You cannot talk to the other Guardians you meet in the world, there is NO proximity chat AT ALL

The story of this was so fractured I look back on it now and it was really just a story about how Peter Dinklage can unlock or decipher everything for you while spewing a horribly cheesy script, I honestly kind of thought Bungie would release something better (expectations yada yada). There seriously was like barely any explanation as to who people are or what was going on, I'm not even sure there are any memorable moments in this game and the only memorable character I can think of is The Speaker and that is only because he sells some cool looking items which you need to grind for.

It's like one great big escort mission for your Ghost.

Let's just hope that the Bungies 'Biggest Game so far' and it's proposed 10 year life span change things up a bit, because I can't see a good majority of people buying this expecting a grinding sim.

So, after playing the alpha and then the beta, it felt like Bungie was on track for a GREAT game. I never played HALO, but I read where there is a lot of comparison to HALO. After playing the final build for 12 hours or so, here's my take.

THE GOOD: Beautiful Graphics, Smooth Game Play, Free Loot to Find Hidden all over the Map, Free Roaming Environment, Great shooting mechanics. That's.....about it.

    THE BAD (soooooo bad)...

GEAR: You can't drop/share guns with friends, Requirements for higher level (rare) gear are ridiculous to accomplish (unless you have no job and no life...it's going to take a while). It does feel like ammo drops more frequently since Alpha/Beta, so that IS a plus.

MISSIONS: REPETITIVE GRINDING MISSIONS (OMG). You can fall asleep going from mission to mission. I'm not even kidding.

STORY: There is NO story. You go from location to location to complete a random (and often tedious) task. And you can expect to visit that area at least 500 times for more random tasks.

PUBLIC EVENTS: The public events are not balanced for the player levels on the map. I participated in two events and couldn't complete either one because there are a half dozen players on the map, and they all kept getting killed from being severely under leveled. Fix it.

INTELLIGENCE: Bungie said they tweaked and balanced the game. I don't see where. The AI is still very dumb. Creatures will see you, run behind a box and just keep peeking at you. This is something I thought would have been addressed but wasn't. Fix it.

VENDORS: The vendors sell under-leveled gear, and NEVER...I REPEAT, NEVER sell gear at your exact level. This requires you to (a) hope that gear drops from a NPC that you can equip while grinding, (b) choose to either buy low or high at a vendor, (c) complete the story missions and take the reward gear as you KNOW that will be at your level. And the vendor refresh time is RIDICULOUSLY long. Fix it.

In summation, this is a good start for the series but if it's going to play like (and compete with) Borderlands it needs to use some of the same elements that made that game so successful. Like many others have stated, this feels like another over hyped game that does not live up to expectations.

I DO think there is a ton of fun in this game to be had if you approach it as playing the same planet maps with the same mobs doing the same fetch quest type things, over and over and over as you level up in each area. For example Earth seems to be just one map, where objectives are in different parts of that same map AND the map is not all that big, definitely NOT an MMO type map, more along the lines of multiplayer maps. Along that same issue, this is NOT an MMO open world game environment, its very confined to above said maps. You don't "travel" anywhere as in MOVE in/through space, you simply transport from location to location, map to map. I expected so, so much more based on advertising, like actually exploring large open spaces that weren't crammed full of the same mobs from mission to mission, playing the same maps from mission to mission, with the only thing changing in my level number and equipment. This game is pretty good. I like aspects of it, but it also feels quite limited and I felt like i got the idea of the whole game just from the beta I played. Quite repetitive, but if you are playing with friends (even though its a limit of 3?) it is a lot more fun. Hoping this will tide me over until Far Cry 4 or Dying Light, but its not looking hopeful.

This game wasn't what I thought it would be. Too much hype. I hate that you only get to lvl 20. They should of added more content and high lvl instead of just making it DLC later and having people pay for it. This is my main reason why I will just still to MMO's (even tho Destiny isn't an MMO) for PC.

It fails to deliver the MMORPG content that was promised. The character customization is barely noticeable and all character models look alike. The "play with friends" thing is half-baked as it doesn't even let you communicate with strangers and you have to sync up with your friends constantly just to get the full experience of the game. You can't even play this game offline, it requires a constant, high-speed internet connection which is a huge turnoff to all those guys who play offline. Playing by yourself in Destiny is a boring, repetitive experience and it's frustrating to have to wait 10-15 minutes just to pair up with a couple of idiot strangers. The dependence on others dampens the single player experience, and the story is boring, predictable, and full of annoying cliches. The graphics and music are great, the scenes and atmosphere is wonderful, but this is negated because you have to visit the same place dozens of time to travel. The "cinematic" loading screen (your ship flying around) gets extremely old, and after hours of playing this game, it almost becomes unbearable. Enemies are repetitive, each AI almost exactly the same as the next. The bosses are bullet sponges, armed with the same AI used to power every single other bot in the game. This game's shooting and fighting is smooth, but the enemies are just too boring to fight. If you want to rank up, you must spend hours grinding XP; there are actually specific locations in game dedicated to grinding! Overall, this experience was a massive disappointment. This certainly isn't the worst game on the market, but in my opinion, it's not worth the money. Expand

The story feels repetitive, fragmented, emotionless and has nothing special to offer. I just played through the story yesterday and cant remember a single mission because the storytelling is lame and full of cliches. The different kinds of enemies are generic and have almost no storyline behind them. Not to mention the bossfights, which are just a complete failure. Basically spraying your gun into some big fat AI for 30min.
For and open world/ RPG/ MMO game, the environment is extremely small and repetitive, nothing like borderlands AT ALL. Not even close.

    Garbage.

Now, if you are a single player or coop person person, be wary.
    PvP is Destiny's strongest point.
It is only getting worse from here.
There is no fun to be had in destiny in coop or singleplayer after level 20.
    It's just farming.
They made this game like an mmorpg, with boss loots and marks of **** You get like 2 or 3 of those marks for every instance you beat and you need like 2 or 3 hundred of them to buy some equipment. Just like WoW, right, right? Hahaha!
NO!! This is not **** World of Warcraft! Far from it.
You don't even have 4 player team size like in most other coop games, you have 3.
Why? probably because they only have 3 classes? I don't know.

    Garbage.

If you think you're gonna have fun just killing enemies, be wary.
There are four enemy factions and each have the same enemy types. A peon, a damage dealer, a tank and the special class (wizards, hydra, captain aaand ... ummm ... some fourth one for the alien race that had no purpose in the game to begin with so I don't even remember after just having completed it). That's 4 general classes in 4 fractions, so 16 "different" enemies. Really it's just four, but whatever, let's be generous.
You WILL get sick of the same enemies over and over. Believe me. I've been there. The AI scrapes at the bare minimum of what is acceptable in enemy AI. Extremely predictable hide behind cover and shoot mentality which will only serve to get you even more bored than you already were.
No variety, no fun, no enjoyment to be found in killing these.

    Garbage!

If you think that all that stuff isn't so bad, because you don't care about post-game and pvp, you just wanna enjoy the story, BE. ****. WARY!
    THERE IS NO STORY.
    Literally.
    They didn't make one.
    They didn't bother.
It's the only explanation that makes sense:
They made the instances to "work" in multiplayer, so you'd have "fun" repeating them over and over and then LOOSELY tied them together with "plot".
Well, tough luck. I didn't have any fun. It was boring as **** And the plot isn't anywhere to be even estimated!
Let me get this straight. If I sound like I'm exaggerating, Stop, drop an roll, because I am going to heat you up!
    One sentence.
One sentence is most you'll get for explanation of anything. Upon entering an instance you get a SHORT intro from your ghost (the AI that follows you around) with about one sentence of information that is linked to the overall 'plot' by pure coincidence at best.
No quests. Yes. NO. QUESTS! That means no quest texts either. You just do whatever your map says you can do at your level.
No interaction with any story relevant characters save for the few cutscenes. There's like less than 10 of them and they are, admittedly, decent. Just decent.
So, to reiterate: No text to tell you what's going on, no explanation for anything, no characters, no anything.
    GARBAGE!

So, in conclusion, 3/10 for graphics and music. Sure, those things better be good, because they sure as **** payed enough money for it, but these things still have to affect the score somewhat, so I gave one extra point for these two things.
The music is really good. I might even buy it.

THIS GAME IS GARBAGE, but the dancing still looks cool.

Take a look at those positive critic "reviews" and tell me that all those high scores didn't come from websites with Destiny advertisements plastered all over them. Nope, no conflict of interest here at all!

Also, I have a sinking suspicion that a good chunk of those User Review "10" scores are from Bungie employees trying to counter the damage from irate customers leaving zeroes. After experiencing buyer's remorse a day after plunking down my $60 on this POS, I was angry enough to create an account and write an honest review devoid of fanboyism and corporate sponsorship. Why do you think there is so much hatred for this game?! People feel RIPPED OFF and are voicing their anger about it. This isn't some troll tactic (or this whole "zero campaign" would have afflicted other games, too), this is how user reviews work: people are voicing their opinions based on their experiences with a product. In this case, I'm ranting about why I feel like this game isn't worth the disc it was printed on. I came in with the expectation of a shooter-MMO and ended up with a half-assed, last-gen console port on my brand new PS4.

    The Good:
    The music is decent

Some of the shooting feels fun (for a few hours)

I didn't experience any major technical hitches online

    The Bad:
30 FPS?! I didn't buy a PS4 to play games at 30 frames per second!

The sparse amount of mute players that flutter around during the campaign - they vanish when they're needed and are just annoying when they're not.

The mission designs are lazy and amateur. I've seen more complexity and encounter structures in the original Everquest from 1999!

Speaking of MMOs, Destiny is NOT an MMO - sure you can /dance emote but that's not what makes an MMO an Massively Multiplayer Online game. There are very few people around (maybe a small handful in the single Tower/Town) and even PvP matches are small-scale. Defiance was a (bug-ridden turd of an) MMO and actually had an open, shared world with hundreds of players. Firefall (PC only) is a shooter-MMO with an open world and hundreds of players sharing it. Planetside is a shooter-MMO (albeit PvP-only). etc. etc. etc. Destiny is a small collection of maps (that are called "planets" or "The Tower") where a few mute players occasionally drive by on their Star Wars SpeederBikes while you shoot waves of identical enemies over and over.

Also, this game is suffering from last-gen-itis. It was definitely made for last gen consoles because all of the limitations were ported "up" to the PS4. Why are we being sold a last gen game for next gen consoles?!

The story is laughably bad. I mean "Magic Missile!" bad. They seriously want me to visit their website to read up on the "lore?" How about you actually let players experience it in the damn game FFS?! Also, Tyrion Lannister as an Asperger's patient squawking in your ear through a malfunctioning auto-tune filter is TV-mute inducing.

There are like 5 enemies in the entire game and you've seen them all about an hour into playtime. Hope you like flying claymore charges and robots with many arms because you'll be fighting them for the entire game (with a few 3D Studio Max primitive spheres thrown in now and then).

Why am I forced to use a f***ing cursor on a console menu?! Who designed this and why are they still employed?

    Bottom Line:
This lazy, sloppy and completely uninspiring game was squeezed out with little to nothing new to offer for its $60 asking price. Seriously, what does this game offer players that older games in this genre don't already do better? All that money clearly went to promoting the game and buying "professional" reviews because it's apparent none of it went to actually making the game.
I really hope this warning reaches someone on the fence and saves them from wasting $60 on this pig with lipstick. Mine's going on Craigslist.

    Wow. That was surprisingly cathartic.

One major complaint of mine is that they increased the strike difficulty for solo players, and with the way the RNG based loot is dolled out is unbelievably unfair, and so it wasn't worth it to me to try and find a strike team of strangers, because the chance at a good reward just isn't good enough. It used to be fun for me to run the nightfall solo, but Bungie essentially took away the game I bought and was having fun with, and for what, so I might force my friends buy the game so they can run the strike with me? When one hears stories from people who have played the strikes and raids every single week since release, who STILL haven't got the loot they want (usually the gallarhorn) it really hits me that you can go through all that effort and struggle for nothing?

If you are a solo gamer don't get this game, there is nothing for you except an extremely weak story that only takes a few hours to play through, and then you are on a pointless and frustratingly random loot treadmill. And their attitude towards their fans really sucks, right now the issue is they want fans to rebuy content they already own if they want the new emotes, but they have always had an arrogant attitude of "you will play this game the way we want to you to play". Yeah I'm probably still a little salty about how Bungie basically said get with a group or GTFO of our game, with regards to running the nightfall solo, and this was back long before they finally implemented matchmaking for even the weekly strike. I suppose I should thank them for lifting my veil of addiction, I won't be spending my money at their casino anymore!

    3. Pvp is so broken with unbalancing I don't even know where to start, piece of advice...play as a Titan, no other class should even exist.
    4. ALL of the worlds combined in Destiny don't even make up the same land space as the Barrens in WoW, it's so small, zero exploration, but it does look pretty.
    5. AI is so stupid, very predictable, I soloed multiple strikes after team members lost connection, dropped, etc....the bosses just have lots of HP, very little strategy except for running around avoiding damage.
    6. The Pvp reward system does not reward players at the top, it just a random clump of crap, random rewards to random people. You could just go afk and still have a great chance at gear.
    7. Spaceships, Personal Craft, Gear are all just cosmetic for the most, gear just improves your special and grenade timers
    8. Every world is instanced with a 1 minute load timer, there is zero sandbox and zero rewards for even exploring a planet, those public missions would be great if there were even players on the planets, most of the time it's me and just a few others.
    9. Storyline is non-existent......really, there is nothing there.....Zelda on Nintendo had more to offer.

I´m afraid that Bungie/Activision have failed.
It has turned out to be an extremely repetitive, unimaginative and twodimensional game. Can they fix it? Maybe, but that would force them to start almost from scratch and that won´t happen.

To give this a 10 is as wrong and deluded as givin it a 0. 3 - 4 is fair in my book.
Very very boring pretty much sums it up.

The drops suck, the Turn of Helium that was helping my character gain in points all gone. Now the expansion is useless to me ... I feel that it is the biggest let down of the year.

When your car is shipped to you, you get in and discover that there is no floor where you would normally have pedals. Further inspecting the car, you find that there is no ignition.. actually, there is no engine at all. You are meant to use your feet (like in Flinstones cartoons) to move the car. You are upset a bit but you know, you have spent quite a lot of money on the car, the company that produced the car spent a lot of money on producing and marketing it, a lot of people bought it - It all means that the car is awesome, right?

You continue "driving" it everywhere, seeing other owners on the road who smile really, really hard to you when they see you, but you can see their frown face in the mirror as soon as they pass you... You have this feeling deep inside you, that maybe you and other owners have just been **** in the ass with no consent.

Back to Destiny. After 10 hours of gameplay, you have seen all the content and all that is left for you to do is to repeat same missions, same bounties, same PvP matches with very random and poor reward system that is literally anti-rewarding. After you reach lvl 27, there is nothing to do. The most fun activity which was shoting a respawn cave has been "patched" as Bungie thinks that players are not playing the game properly, and "according to their vision".

Bounties and missions and recent Queen event is LITERALLY same missions, same bounties, absolutely no new content.

If a game that has been released 17 days ago has been completed thoroughly by players then I tend to believe that a game is unfinished and it was just a money grab.

Not exactly a lot of story of dialogue to it either. I think it gets it just at the right amount- enough to make people wanting more. The story is interesting and while I wish some things were explained better, I remembered that for Halo I referred to online sources in order to fill in the gaps. It was a very rich story, and I doubt Destiny is any different.
I was HUGELY disappointed in the level variety. There are different missions but it all takes place on the same maps. You follow the same path- you just "go a little further next time". I thought they learned their lesson from the Halo 1 days where they recycled quite a few levels that were unimaginative.
But let's look at the broken parts with this game. The campaign took me about 7.5 hours to play it all. This includes all side quests. It took me another 5 hours to level up through multiplayer mode so I could actually advance in the story (it's very hard if you don't). Therein lies the biggest problem with this game: Bungie is forcing you to play, not letting you choose what to play.
The theme ripples throughout the game: engrams, which contain "encrypted" items, has a really bad chance at actually giving you the color you want. Out of the 15 or so legendary engrams I got, only 1 actually had a legendary armor for my class, the other was a cloak for another class.. The exotic engram I bought gave me a piece of armor .... for a different class. Supposedly Bungie is going to make it so that you are guaranteed AT LEAST getting an item of the same color. So purples will yield legendary items or better. What good is it to get something that isn't even for your class? We will see about that..
So what do you do if you want better gear? You play co-op or multiplayer. Endlessly. Proponents of this system claim that every complainer is "lazy"; but I disagree. I don't want to spend countless hours grinding away at levels just to get an engram that might not even give me the item I want to unlock other parts of the game. Bungie better start increasing the item drops, that's the only way they're going to kill farming.
In traditional unlock system- you spend time leveling up and then you get to access another area. Bungie is leaving it all to chance. If you have everyone playing this game spend 100 hours on it, on just 1 character, some will have a higher completion rate than others.
I didn't spend $60 just to buy a game that unlocks portions on chance over time. That really ticks me off. On top of that they have the audacity to announce their DLC plan- $30 for 2 DLC drops. No thanks. This game is not fun if the mechanics are broken. Bungie is right, after 20 hours in it becomes a different game. A terrible game. It was fun at first, until I hit level 20, then it becomes monotonous.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overhyped game that looks great, but in the end has no appeal to anyone for what it is. Is it an MMO? With such a dynamic combat system that is more Halo and COD than a strategical shoot and cover system like Battlefield or MOH, this game is too fast paced to need much in strategy when jumping like a fairy all over the place throwing bullets and grenades is enough to get through most situations, and the PvP is mostly broken with the matchmaking system bringing all types together and allowing their one hit wonders of a weapon to sweep boards for what can only be fairly called a rape or good ol' fashioned turkey shoot. So then is it a FPS? For the first 4 hours, maybe. It's actually pretty fun running around and shooting different enemies with different weak points and ranking up for the first bit of the game, but with a story that is mostly just hashed together with little to nothing explained, you finish the story wandering what the **** you're supposed to do now? Well just like the story line, the simple, but kinda off beat inner workings of the game are never explained. I had to refer to the internet every time I played to figure out what I was supposed to do or could do and how I was supposed to do it (should have bought that strategy guide, eh Prima?) So aside from the loose story which isn't really all that important and the lack of explanation for well, most of the gameplay outside of gameplay, this game still sucks as a FPS, and here is why: PvP boughts are rough, glitchy, and generally unrewarding, and unless you enjoy burning through the same campaign line over and over and over, at least the same handful of levels 4-5 times a week, then there is nothing here for you shooter fans either. It's too dumbed down and fast paced for a traditional MMO player, and it's too slow paced and unrewarding/unfulfilling for your regular shooter. If this is the future of gaming, then I'll hang my hat up now, because this game sucks, and I'm kinda pissed it took me two weeks to see I was wasting my time with what I thought would be an interesting shooter RPG like Mass Effect or Borderlands built on the idea of MMO sandbox. I was half right, it's an MMO built solely on Halo mechanics and an intriguing story line that is never explained, just told from somewhere in the middle. And SPOILER ALERT: If you're interested in the sandbox concept of this game imagine four levels that are big beautifully landscaped racetracks that span for something similar to half an island on GTA IV I suppose, with waves of respawning enemy packs and a couple missions in each area (4 types) that either are headhunting missions or run across the map (no timers mind you) and stand in a spot for a couple seconds. Pretty lame. Save your money kids, this one is a lemon sold by the loudest magazines and reviewers. Expand

I'm not sure you can call the story a story, you're not really given any insight into the game world at all besides the fact that "you're the good guy, they're the bad guys and you have to kill them".

Then we have the missions, which are repetitive and boring to say the least. You fight your way through waves of enemies, deploy the Ghost and defend it against even more waves of enemies while it scans a certain object. That's pretty much what happens 95% of the time.

The multiplayer is barely okay, it didn't manage to keep me playing after the fiasco that was the story. The loot system in the multiplayer has gotten a lot of critique for the fact that players joining a few minutes before the end of a match (also players with really bad K/D) will end up getting the best loot. With player at the top of the scoreboards getting normal loot at best.

There's also the raid/strike missions, which sees you fighting wave, after wave, after wave of enemies and eventually a boss. But the loot you gain for the amount of effort you put into them is little at best.

All in all, Destiny had the potential to be a great game, but ended up being an overhyped game that failed to live up (or even come close) to the expectations.

If you're planning on buying Destiny, all I can say is save you money for something else, Destiny is not worth it. If you really want it you'd do best to pick it up when it's on sale.

Those bosses again. OMG x 1000. Some of the worst boss battles in gaming that actually made Uncharted final bosses look good. YES DESTINY IS REALLY THAT BAD.
Destiny's Early bosses - if the player shoots from a mid distance, simply slowly strafe side to side exclusively, exactly as though they are tied to invisible train tracks!! It's truly absurd.

Sure the game has been balance pretty well. But that just shows you ( because balancing take multiple repetative increments over a long time to get right ) for how long Bungie knew about how underdeveloped Destiny really is. They knew exactly the boring turd that was released into the wild.

There is virtually no mission variety, and you add in a no story, massive repetition of boring, way worse than Halos " 30 seconds of fun" combat engagement... or should I say ' en-rage-ment, and you've got a modern day x-file of why countless people like this game.

It's actually quite a sad thing to review Destiny, because it's easy to see the skill of Bungie in the game. The gameplay is seamless, and the graphics are great. It feels amazing to play. Mechanically, it is great.

Unfortunately, that is the extent of the positives. This game was marketed as an MMO-esque experience with a magnificent and epic storyline that could only be done by the house that gave us Halo, or if it wasn't, then they somehow managed to make that impression on me without intending to.

So, let me first examine this notion. There is not a single truly MMO feature in this game. First, within the game itself, there is not a single mechanism for players to organize themselves into large persisting groups, and if there were, these organizations could do nothing to substantially impact the Destiny universe. By contrast, EVE Online, for instance, allows players to form corporations. WOW has clans. Destiny has 6 man fireteams that last as long as a raid does. While they may remain your friends afterwards, the team does not. In EVE, corporations can substantially affect the political atmosphere, control systems, form alliances against enemies, and so on. These things can and do destroy months, even years, worth of work put into the game by players. No such seismic events happen in Destiny.

Secondly, the storyline is simply non-existent. I know that sounds like I'm sensationalizing, but I truly mean it. A central conflict is never outlined, beyond an amorphous "Light vs Dark" which could have been dropped entirely with zero impact on the events and their perception. You begin on what ends up being the central quest of the game about halfway through the story arc, but there is absolutely no sense of progression in a storyline at any point. Even after defeating the final boss, I guessed that was the end of the story, but I didn't know until cutscenes started rolling.

    In Halo, we knew.
Heck, even in Call of Duty [insert name], we knew. We never did not know.

Somehow, the authors of one of the most epic stories in video game history managed to get their story outdone by Call of Duty Modern Warfare.

There isn't even a place to trade gear/resources with other people. Obviously a traditional shooter wouldn't think about that for a moment, but for something that I thought was going to be an MMO-esque experience, that's a basic functionality that needs to be in place.

This, however, brings us to what Destiny is, which is a loot-driven game. Everything in this game revolves around getting better gear and leveling it up, and it fails horribly at making this an enjoyable experience. By comparison, Borderlands provides hours of storyline to grind and find the best gear. EVE provides powerful tools to users to ease the process while making it a challenging and meaningful process. Farming loot in Destiny, however, involves either spending significant amounts of time looking for a fireteam to carry you through a difficult raid, or hopping on a wall on the Moon and shooting bad guys emerging from a couple of caves for an hour.

To summarize, Destiny, to me, is a massive disappointment. I was looking for the next chapter in gaming. I was hoping for epic battles of 50 v 50 and an amazing storyline, but I received 6 v 6 multiplayer (that's a whole separate issue. Multiplayer......fml) and no story at all.

I've learned some very good things from this, though. First, ignore marketing. Wait for user reviews to come out, and listen to them. DO NOT PREORDER. I made the mistake of spending an extra $30 for the expansions, which I will probably never play in a serious manner.

    Hope this helps!

I don't get how a game with a 500 million dollar budget cap can be so repetitive?! Hoards of enemies playing over and over again. And again. And again. You find out quickly that this is going to be the case through the whole game. Dinkle bot as they call him, stops and says some random stuff and then play the hoard mode, defend him. Wrinse and Repeat. Over and over again. This system is unforgivable. I didn't expect a game with a 500 Million dollar budget to use this, ofcourse I expect it from mobile games or even sometimes start up companies. But from Bungie? The godfathers of Halo? That doesn't make any sense considering how well produced the first halo games were. Its most likely Activision handing out marching orders and Bungie being broke as hell after being basically fired from halo, put it any way you like retired, stopped it doesn't matter at the end of the day they stopped making Halo to make this boring, repetitive, lazy game called Destiny. I hope next time Activision gives Bungie strict time orders, I hope they spit on their shoe and possibly give em the bird because I don't want to see great companies waste what they had. I've put 100s of hours into Halo, Halo:Reach, and Battlefield 4. I also put 4-5 years into World of Warcraft. I know games. I know when I'm playing a good game or when I'm playing a bad game. If anyone was excited for this game, I was. I mean the marriage of the two gaming genres I've played my entire life. An MMOFPSRPG!? I was all in on this game.

But here's the problem with Destiny:
I've put 100s of hours into Halo, Halo:Reach, and Battlefield 4. I also put 4-5 years into World of Warcraft. I know games. I know when I'm playing a good game or when I'm playing a bad game. If anyone was excited for this game, I was. I mean the marriage of the two gaming genres I've played my entire life. An MMOFPSRPG!? I was all in on this game.

But here's the problem with Destiny: it is actually 2 games. I'll explain.

    1) Early progression. When you first start playing the game it is a great experience. Leveling your class, collecting awesome new weapons and items, first unlocking your super, getting your first sparrow and killing your first strike boss. The beginning stages of this game are great. It's a very fun experience. Gameplay is great. Gun play is perfect, but once gameplay kind of sets in you start to realize where this game has flaws.

    2) Max Level - when you hit level 20, it's like you hit a wall. You are forced to play the same strikes over and over again for a chance at a better piece of gear. And in these strikes, there's no way to kick anyone from the party so now a days people will just sit there while you have to do all the work. No really, they will just sit at the beginning part of the instance and you have to run on and do it all.

When you hit this wall, you also realize how completely embarrassing the story was. I mean horrible. One of the worst stories of any game I've ever played. Just embarrassing coming from Bungie. None of the characters even have a name....seriously. I still to this day don't know a single character's name from the base game.

The raid was probably the most fun I've had in this game. I beat the raid multiple times, so I wasn't one of those people who didn't push through to get to level 30. I actually hit 30. I played WoW for years. I'm used to the grind, but WoW actually has good lore and story compared to this. Gameplay is EXTREMELY important in a game, but when you also have an amazing story and lore it's a perfect combination. Destiny has great gameplay, but I didn't care about what I was doing in the PVE because the story was so awful. It's like you're told, "Alright, you're the good guy, now go shoot the baddies because they want to kill that orb over there." Besides this there is no context.

Then once I hit level 30, all the controversies started to come out: Reddit, figuring out they had cut content prior to the game being released (people glitched into them), lead writer and lead music composer had been fired or let go or quit. All these things started to weigh down on me because of what this game COULD have been. All of my friends feel the same way as I do about this game. My friends were so disappointed and hurt by bungie and Destiny that they sold their ps4 completely. They just couldn't over come the disappointment, false advertising, and trust that Bungie completely broke with their fans.

The longer I write this review, the lower I click the score because honestly, this game cut me deep. I was really looking forward to this game from Bungie and I find it to be one of the most disappointing games of all time. Don't buy this game. Activision and Bungie need to be taught a lesson.

Then Bungie began making it nigh impossible to be a solo player. Deej kept insisting they'd continue to support the solo experience for a very long time. Well, he's just a damn show pony and a flat out liar. The tide shifted for me when Taken King came out and Eververse was introduced. I've never been so disgusted in my life. I could not believe I spent $150 on this farce. I really tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this was the last straw. People will pay for good content. Resorting to microtransactions just shows how incapable Bungie is of doing that. So, they add a gate for content which forces you to get DLC. Otherwise your character is essentially useless.
I don't know what happened to Bungie (Activision?) but Destiny completely changed my outlook on games. I am now very cynical. I used to be happy go lucky and optimistic, but nowadays companies have to earn my money. I take very little on faith anymore.
People quitting or being fired before release should have been a huge red flag.
Their incompetence on having to rely on out of game assets to do things is also appalling.
All of this is a damn shame, because Destiny was really fun to play.

Basic elements of development have been ignored. For one thing, the narrative elements are appalling. They're essentially non-existent. The world, characters, and narrative are totally undeveloped. I don't mean developed poorly. I mean literally no effort has been made to construct any real kind of story. Dialogue is completely barebones, only serving basic game functionality. Peter Dinklage's phoned-in performance makes total sense now, because there is no attempt at an actual script, nor is his character developed. He has nothing to work with and there was no legitimate reason to hire such a huge actor for the role he plays. The only reason he was hired was as a transparent marketing con to trick people into thinking that this game actually had some kind of narrative content. "Marketing con" is probably the best general description of this game, in fact. Another good example of this is the music, for which Paul McCartney was hired to create a completely mediocre credits song. Again, this decision was obviously made with no desire to actually create a good product, it was solely made to generate publicity. The rest of the music is equally mediocre. And then of course the gameplay. Again, it's completely barebones and none of the hyped elements have been fleshed out. The revolutionary "shared world shooter" stuff is just more marketing rubbish - it's just a co-op game with an undeveloped hub world. And the actual shooting is completely bog standard. It's competently crafted, but the enemies are extremely simplistic and monotonous, and likewise the gameplay in general is completely repetitive. All in all, this is not just a bad game, but a game which could actually do serious damage to the industry in the wake of other uber-hyped triple-A mediocrities such Watch Dogs. It is clear that no real work has been put into the development. Again, I must emphasise that the developers haven't honourably tried something but failed. They have literally not tried. Content has not been developed. The millions of dollars have just sunk into the bank accounts of various Bungee employees over the unjustifiably protracted development period, and they've sat back and laughed it up, comfortable in the knowledge that at the end of the day they can just play the now all-too-familiar game of whipping up a storm of disingenuous hype amongst a credulous customer base, and embargo reviews. And based on the initial sales it looks like they've gotten away with it. But if things keep going like this, it's only a matter of time before the public catches on to this behaviour and loses faith in the industry. Thank God that sites like metacritic are coming to the fore so that customers can call them out for it en masse. Don't buy this game. Expand

I am not going to make the comparison between this and borderlands, I enjoyed borderlands. The game felt great for a while, until the dawning realisation that "this was it", once you have done that mission, you will be made to do it over and over again, for very little reward.

I am gutted, this could have been so much better. I firmly believe that Bungle, I mean Bungie prostituted this game to Activision and they chopped up what would have been a great game with a wonderful narrative.

I will also add that those of you who have heard of the loot cave, this got patched very quickly, however other concerns that the community have are being ignored. The loot cave was the most social part of Destiny, then they broke it.

When we think of Bungie, we think Halo and awesome first person shooters. But here, no no! The graphics look clean, brilliant and very nice and that gives it a 2. That makes Destiny a 100 dollar package! And it's definitely not worth that much! The RPG elements are bad, they don't work and someone go tell Bungie that grinding will not make the RPG that they were aiming for! Because absolutely no one will join your freaking fire team. Everyone is either already playing with friends, or running around solo for no reason. This is an ONLINE game, and yet there's nothing cooperative about it. There's no matchmaking feature for joining parties to do missions with so you're out of luck if you haven't pre-arranged a team.

You cannot chat with anyone in the game world, further making it impossible to work cooperatively (especially during public events / world bosses, etc.). The only way to group up seems to be to run around the world trying to find any of the 3 people you might just find in your zone at any given point and spam them with fire team invites...That's if they stop moving long enough for you to even select them. There's no way to say 'hey let's join up', so you just have to send cold party invites which probably annoy people.

The story is absolutely HORRIBLE, who the heck even knows what it's supposed to be about. The voice acting is horrendous. The only thing the game has going for it is the shooting, but the missions are too hard to play alone so good luck even trying to enjoy that.

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
