Not worth your time. After all the hype and investment you would think this game would at least be enjoyable, let alone content to keep you busy. I would advise holding off on this game until more content is added or you can pick it up on a sale if you can't wait.

Definitely not the game changer we all thought it would be. Average gameplay and same shooter style that gamers have seen time and time again. Nothing revolutionary here.

I would be more forgiving if quest varied more in objectives, but they don't. Go here, defeat wave, push forward, defeat second wave, then go here. The content with each class is shallow, nothing really stands out to being unique. The only thing I'll give Destiny is how the sparrows help with getting around & their ease of control, one thing bungie got right. The ending was probably the biggest insult & the most anti-climactic that I've played in a long time. I wouldn't recommend to anyone unless you're craving Halo. Expand

Honestly this game was a bummer, mainly because it was hyped so much. The multiplayer is kinda boring, feels like borderlands but with less teamwork. Its hard to aim, and the bosses are really annoying and unresponsive.

Where do I begin in this game?
Firstly you cannot play it without an internet connection, which means that it is just as bad as the xbox one when you have to check in to play single player.
Secondly if you think this game is co-op you are sadly sadly mistaken. Each map or mission has a limit to the amount of players that are online in that area and sadly the limit is 3 YES including YOU.

Thirdly when you go into a boss fight it you and only you, no friends or other multiplayers allowed in the area, oh and whats worse is that a "ban on respawn" appears on the screen, which means if you die, thats it sorry you start the mission again...
Fourthly and this will take the cake, this game runs on bungie servers, which means if you want to play single player (remembering it requires connection) and their servers are down then, too bad you cant play single player.

This game sounds like watch dogs??? where it was over inflated and set out to be something that sadly is not.

Anyways it could just be me, whats your response?

Boring, tired and uninspired - What did Bungie spend their money on? For the most expensive game in history that is supposed to revolutionize the FPS market - Destiny fails HARD. Repetitive and linear gamepla - check. Small limited maps - check. Boring enemies - check. Laughable soundtrack - check. Poor sound FX - check... the list goes on and on. Sadly, this game is yet another colossal waste of money. I'll just tell myself I went to dinner with the wife and kids and spend my gaming time replaying titles that hit every mark this gamed missed. Shouldn't be hard to find one in my library as this seems to have missed them ALL.

I think we as a demographic of people need to stand up for what's right. Overhyping a game to high heaven and promising the moon, and then delivering a bland and average game with none of the features promised is just not right. In any other industry fines would be levied for outrageous claims, but in video games you can promise things that aren't even in the game!

    There is NO LOOT. No

In any other industry fines would be levied for outrageous claims, but in video games you can promise things that aren't even in the game!

There is NO LOOT. No chests, enemies drop NOTHING. You get items as rewards for finishing quests, and they are usually boring and bland, with names like "SINA JAGUAR 2.1R3". wtf is that?? A HELMET. Oh wait it's also a pair of pants because they have the SAME NAME.

Items also have the same art design as items from Runescape-- a free to play online MMORPG that's about 15 years old (meaning NONE).

Equipped items don't even change how you look. You can notice a few slight adjustments here and there, but the overall character model accounts for 65% of what you see, so everybody looks the same.

The menu design is horrendous and archaic, nothing makes sense and I still can't figure out where certain things are.

Gameplay wise it's really just a stripped down version of Halo. Areas are quite small, and every mission is exactly the same as the last.

The story is no "Cinematic Experience" as promised, but rather nonexistent.

Multiplayer is like Halo and Call of Duty, minus all the vehicles, cool level design, and tactical gameplay. Run around and shoot ****

If you're thinking of buying this game, all I can say is -- "SPACE WIZARDS". Yes, there are space wizards.

They basically combine the crappiest elements of Halo and Borderlands 2 with space, magic, and then dumb the whole package down further.

I guess I'm just saying that I feel like this game should have flopped and gotten everybody canned, especially the devs making outrageous claims to the press. But instead the hype they've built has just proven a new business model for the gaming industry-- that delivery doesn't matter, only what you can **** prospective buyers into with hype.

This game has single handedly made me quit playing video games. I'm done. I can't support an industry that considers this kind of garbage it's crowning gem.

This game is repetitive. Read, REPETITIVE. Not only does it keep reusing the same old areas, but the mobs spawn in exactly the same spots, facing the same direction, with exactly the same "AI" every time. Your equipment drops give you more equipment that looks and behaves exactly the same as the last set, with small performance changes or color changes as the only discernible difference.

Even the AI screams repetitive. Have you played Halo? Then you're familiar with Grunts jumping behind a rock, then out from behind, and back again, over and over until you shoot them. That is what all the mobs in this game do. The "different alien races" you fight have all the same crap also. Minions that might as well just be Halo Grunts (since they have the same guns and AI), a few Lieutenants that might as well be Elites (except they use the same brain dead "AI" as the Grunts), and a few bosses that just wander around shooting as YOU jump back and forth from behind rocks.

Even the weapons are retreads. "Pulse Rifle" is a skinjob over the Battle Rifle. "Hand Cannon" is the old pistol. Even the "Needler" is redone with enemies firing at you. Jumping feels exactly like, wait for it, Halo. Regen shields? That's new. Oh wait, nope. Thank goodness I can buy a vehicle that... does nothing. Or a ship, so I have something else to stare at during load screens.

But the Multiplayer open world is even worse. Who the hell designs a "Social Hub" and neglects to put ANY way to actually socialize? I can hardly say that with a straight face, there is zero, zip, nada, nothing at all in place to let you speak to other players in any way. No chat, no "LFG" channel, no public channel, no trading, no market, NOTHING AT ALL. I can talk to friends off my friends list, of course, but I can do that during ANY game.

What a piece of crap. Do like I did, take it back to Gamestop right away while you can still get your $43 credit.

I found this game to be way overhyped and other than outstanding graphics, it felt like a generic Halo. First off, you begin with your character being dead? Seriously? Plus if you select a non-human character, why are you ‘found’ on earth? How did you get there and why? Your AI partner, weapons, body shielding and enemies all feel like a poorer version of Halo. I also think the mechanics of combat operate in the same fashion as Its much better ‘forerunner’ and while I consider Gears of War to have the best combat style, Destiny should offer more than just standing in the open during a gun battle. While Halo has the same mechanics, that was a different time and that franchise is so much stronger. I’m an older gamer (over 35 years playing) so I like my main story campaign to be offline and not see a bunch of other players bouncing all over the screen and around my character when I’m trying to play. I also like to be able to pause a game if I need to and you just can’t do it in this game which is a big negative. I just could not enjoy this game given how poorly it is in gameplay and story. I already return it so I could recoup most of my money. I would strongly recommend you rent the game for a $1 or $2 and see what you think. It’s clearly not worth the $60.

The game is ultra repetitive and you could go into a team death match or capture the flag game and have to face people that have 4 times or more body armor than you. The game has so many design flaws and is so repetitive it is the first game I have traded back in after 2 weeks and I have bought like 200 games in the last 5 years. The crucible (pvp) is clunky and lag-ridden, you can't easily chat to people, make parties, join lobbies, do anything that makes a cohesive multiplayer work.
Ahhh but i hear you say: "yeah but what about the story?" What about the story? Let's go to one place and have the ghost run into a predictable problem while i fight off waves of baddies, then go to another and do the same and so on until one big baddy arrives and the level is done. PVE is monotonous and PVP has issues due to poor map design. All the whiners complaining about imbalances from weapons or supers in PVP should really be complaining about the claustrophobic map designs. Bungie's main issue is that they chopped up a decent product and are selling it in pieces via DLC. Not worth your time at $60, this feels more like a $30 game. Expand

As an exclusive PlayStation owner, I've never had the opportunity to play Halo. I've seen game play footages and loved the art direction and game mechanics that Bungie has created for Halo. So when I first learned that Bungie was creating a new FPS that will also be released for the PlayStation, I was anxious for the game to come out.

Picking up the game, and playing the first few missions. I felt like this game was going to be great. The game play was smooth, the FPS prospect of it was amazing, and who could complain about the next gen graphics? I couldn't wait to get through the missions, leveling my character and experiencing the end game content.

That was the first day the game came out. Ever since that day. I have no clue what the hell happened. After a few days, I've hit level 20. Yay, right? Unfortunately not. Every single mission that I played through was the same as the previous one. Sure, the scenery has changed; but you're doing the same thing over and over. Not to mention when you beat the final mission, you're left even more clueless. WTF happened/ The story was a piece of crap. I've read better stories on Reddit by users with a better plot and story line than Destiny.

Just to be clear, level 20 isn't exactly the max level you can hit. It's just the max level you can hit by experience. You can actually level up to 30 with gears. In which you can to grind the same mission (weekly heroic/nightfall) or do the same 5 strikes over and over again. You would also think that for the strikes that requires PS+ and a group of 3 to play together. That there'd be more of a challenge. But that's not the case with Destiny. It's the same grind and defend and sponge mode boss all over again. At least their raid is fun. After you've ran it once. Then it's all the same thing over and over again.

Another terrible thing about Destiny. Is their RNG. You could run the raid every week and chances are you'll never get the gears that you want, because most of the time it'll just be shards. Legendary cryptarchs rarely drops. So you've left with farming the strikes to get vanguard marks to buy the legendary gears. Too bad they're capped at 100 per week, so you'd have to run the strikes dozens of time per week just to upgrade your character.

There's a lot of things wrong with the game. Lack of story line. Repetitive game play. Daily grind and farming. You could argue that that's all you do with any other RPGs and MMOs The thing is, those RPG and MMOs are actually fun and rewarding with incredible character development. Destiny is none of those things.

Another thing is.. people tend to call Destiny an MMO. I can't say that it is. You're grouped with 2 other people for strikes and the weekly nightfall. You're group with 5 others for the raid which you can only run once per week. You can group with 2 others to do patrol (all of which are the same). And there's a limit of 16 people total that can be in the tower (that you can't even communicate with). So no, it's far from an MMO.

Also, I'm not buying that there's more content in future DLCs and that Bungie plans for Destiny to be a 10 year game. No, I spent $67 on Destiny, I expect $67 worth of a game without the need to pay more just to get more of the game that should have been there from the start.

This is every mission in the game, as well as every strike mission. There is no story whatsoever, and the only way to learn more about the world and what's going on is to turn off your game, go bungies website, and read some cards of info that are unlocked by playing the game. Not only is this a cheap device to get people to play more, but it breaks immersion completely, which makes the music and the beauty of the game pointless. There's 4 groups of enemies in the game, and each group has different kinds of enemies. There are no unique enemies besides the bosses, and those are actually just larger, slightly different looking versions of one of the normal enemies. The loot system is completely broken, and in such a way that you must play for days just to find a better item. There are 3 categories of weapon; Primary, Secondary, and heavy weapons. Primary weapons consist of rifles, and pistols. There are only 3 kinds of secondary weapons, and only 2 kinds of heavy weapons. Because of the multiplayer battles, the best weapons are eventually nerfed, making them nothing special. When I find a really nice gun, I don't feel good about getting it, because I know it took no skill. I could have just been weighing my team down, and still got the weapon. Bungie and Activision sold us a game that was incomplete, expecting us to pay for expansions to complete the game. I will never buy another game from Activision because of this game. I gave this game one hell of a chance. I've played it from January 2015 till last Friday and now I give up. I give up on trying to convince myself and others that this game is as good as i wanted it to be. It's not. It just isn't that good at all.

The story takes the concept of repetition to a whole new level. Referring to it as a story is also being pretty generous. The npc's are flatter than a run-over hedgehog, the story is given little to no depth, it really is "go there, shoot those dudes. Then go there and shoot those dudes, wash, rinse, repeat."

PVP was entertaining but didn't really stand out among other PVP shooters.

When i think back over the hours i spent on this game, i find myself regretful. But what really makes the regret sting is that i spent money on DLC that brought so much promise but delivered so little. House of Wolves really only offered a new wave game (prison of elders) and some semi entertaining bounties and Dark Below did similar but with a new raid (Crota's End).
It struck me as very odd that there was matchmaking for certain strikes but not the raids. This meant having to try and gather friends or convince random players to do the raids with you.
The social side of things was rather weak. You could only really chat to people once they'd agreed to join you in a fire team.

The most crushing disappointment with regards this game was that a few months after shelling out £30 for both dlcs, Bungie brought out update 2.0, a prelude to the release of their new DLC, Taken King.

This update removed all but one strike level, took away easily 50% of the story content (paid DLC content included) 2 major parts of PVP and the ability to select which pvp game types you play.

Basically, they took my money, and i can go f*** myself. Nothing in the news about the coming update mentioned the loss of content. The destiny youtube community that had been given a taster of Taken King had mentioned nothing of the loss of content. I only found out the moment the update had finished (about 12 hours after it had started!).

I can only assume this was meant to make me hungry for Taken King but it's had the opposite effect. It's made me sick of it.

Bungie and Activision took a tandem dump on me. I've learnt my lesson, don't buy their **** anymore. I hope you don't either.

    Be well folks.

Its Doom with slightly better graphics: I swear all the enemies are sprites with only their fronts rendered. The interstitials are beautiful, but the writing is only slightly better than Battlefield 4. Don't bother.

Garbage ... who makes an MMO where you cannot trade items with your friends? Bungie I guess ...

Play Halo 2 instead. Better MP, story.

Also the lore cards in Destiny ... to read them ... get this ... you have to look them up in a browser on your computer/tablet/phone. Why this crap wasn't available in game ... your guess = mine

Destiny is hands down the worst game I've ever played. I deleted the game off my PS4 within a couple weeks of purchase and sent an email to Activision demanding my money back (they never responded). I was so outraged by being scammed by the marketing of this game I genuinely wanted to drive over to Blizzard/Activision offices and throw a rock through their window. I deleted the game off my PS4 within a couple weeks of purchase and sent an email to Activision demanding my money back (they never responded). I was so outraged by being scammed by the marketing of this game I genuinely wanted to drive over to Blizzard/Activision offices and throw a rock through their window. The reason for all of this is simple. I paid $60 for a game that I beat in 9 hours and was left with nothing to do end game except running the same boring quests over and over again or jumping into PVP. PVP was extremely lopsided in favor of particular classes and particular weapons with no genuine healing class. The game was marketed as a sci-fi World Of Warcraft shooter with an "immersive" world to explore and rich story lines. In the year running up to the release of the game numerous articles and advertisements bombarded the pages of Game Informer and other PC gaming mags telling consumers how incredible this game was going to be. What a lie. Learned an important lesson from Destiny "Buyer Beware!" Expand

Essentially a Borderlands rip-off minus all the things that make Borderlands unique, like its art and humor, whether you liked them or not. Boring grinding, tiny maps, limited features and customization. This is a marketing campaign, not a game.

Terrible game. Played it for a bit and it was pretty bland. Nothing like borderlands which at least had some humor. The planetary missions are short and the gear is generic and unintuitive. Day 1 return.

All Hype and No substance. Destiny is like an High Definition remake of a bad game from the late 1990's. Avoid this game at all costs! The game also has a limited (and poorly voiced) story, bad controls, unbalanced multi-player and is loaded with bugs.

This game had promise but my biggest issue is playing at 30fps....it's simply not acceptable for a shooter. And for me that makes Destiny totally as in 100% worthless as a game.

The lack of single player story/narrative is unforgiving. There is nothing to get exited for in the world of Destiny, just grind through enemies and fight bosses that can take absurd amount of damage.

No innovation or anywhere close to the kind of experience promised, the story and lore are lost due to the focus on multiplayer which is a dry and dull experience. An over-hyped borderlands clone, not original or new in any way, enough said.

I originally rated this game a 10. I was sorely mistaken! I'd give it a 0 after playing through the same PvE missions over and over and over. The game obviously lacks content and DLC was planned far too early into the design. I'll play the DLC that I preordered... but I will definitely NOT GIVE BUNGIE ANOTHER PENNY!

After playing about 48 hours I've come to the conclusion this game was unfinished and overhyped to the extreme. The multiplayer is unbalanced, dull, full of COD-tactic players (run and shoot even on Control) and shouldn't even be allowed in this kind of game.
The story was written very poorly, but the COOP aspect is definitely the only good side to this mediocre broken mess.

It's not an MMO, mainly because it lacks the first M in the acronym, Massive. The biggest PVP situation you can get yourself into currently is 6v6. Really? For me it's very typical of the COD style we've all become antiquated with and while it's a good style, Bungie didn't really try to do anything to set itself apart. The playstyle in Co-op got very repetitive very fast and was generally not very challenging. The 'extra' skills you learn are very generic as well and don't add much to the combat style since you're still just going to be shooting everything and throwing grenades anyways. I'd rather be playing CoD or Battlefield were at least the game play is challenging and ever changing.
I might be biased in giving it a 0, but I rate it lower than I normally would because I feel deceived by the developer and publisher. They sold this game as an MMO that you could explore the universe with and go into massive battles with your buddies against tough enemies, and it's nothing like that. It's just a borderlands clone.
The one redeeming factor I can mention about this game is it is very beautiful. Bungie has been good about making very visually appealing games. Maybe in the future they should just focus on their game engine and market that out to game developers, or get better developers in to work on their own stuff. Really disappointing, but not surprising for Bungie after coming off the heels of Microsoft.

There is nothing innovative about the game, its a very standard shooter with bosses that you have to painstakingly wear down for 15-20mins. The multiplayer aspect of the game is very unbalanced, there doesn't seem to be any kind of skill/level based matchmaking at all. A level 12 character will face level 30+ characters with end game gear ! Don't even bother trying the multiplayer until you have reached the level cap.

The areas and zones are boring as hell, nothing interesting about them whatsoever. It has loads of reputation grinding missions where you literally repeat the same mission over and over...

The Dark Below expansion (only one out at time of writing) is probably the least value for money I have seen in DLC, £20 for almost nothing, it should be £5.

And now onto probably my biggest issue with the game, no matchmaking for raids or weekly strikes. This means if you're like me and don't know anyone else who owns the game you're just out of luck I'm afraid, forget about endgame content. Do not buy this game unless your friends have it too.

Whoever came up with the idea that you have to go to a web site to find out about story through Grimoire cards is an idiot. It's like making a movie that makes little sense and telling you that you have to read about key plot points and general story elsewhere. And by the way even the bits of story you get through extremely rare cut scenes sound stupid and generic, it's just bad unimaginative writing.

Gameplay and enemy AI is worse than in Halo. The fact that you can't take enemy guns is a travesty, one of the best parts of Halo was that you could grab any Covenant gun and those guns were fun. In Destiny foes have cool guns, but you can't pick it up. You are stuck with standard set of Earth weapons, apparently several hundred years into future Earth defenders still can't produce a cool looking BFG on steroids.

What Destiny does well is making you really appreciate Borderlands series. I liked Borderlands a lot already, but now that I see how with $500 million budget Destiny totally screwed up loot system and upgradable gun variety, making it boring, largely useless and ineffective, I understand what a visual and logical masterpiece Borderlands is.

The vast variety of Planets and Worlds that we were promised is another load of ****
Maps are quire limited, and same locations are being constantly reused for various faceless missions, placing it on different planets just made alredy dumb menu system even more clumsy, and don't get me started on those loading times when you see your ship hanging in space for a minute ot two without movement.

Your ship, by the way, is another example how Bunjie didn't use brains. This ship does nothing, you can't use it in missions, it can't shoot, you can't fly it at all, but you can definitely buy more cool looking ships, and then just stare at it, nothing else. Idiotic.

Destiny has decent pew pew, but on pew pew alone you can get only so far, and pew pew isn't as good as in Halo or as fun as in Borderlands.

Environments are beautiful but most of it can't be explored, and none of it is built with logic of alien life forms in mind, there is a bunch of huge undeground spaces and look epic but make no sense, this is Bungie's problem since forever, they never understood that putting five weird objects into a room doesn't make it furnished. There are bunch of buildings you can't enter, cave and room entrances with dark mist not allowing you to enter inside, Really, there's absolutely nothing nextgen about this game, another lie from Bungie.

As many have already pointed out, all the gameplay and missions are extremely repetitive, unimaginative and boring. Strike missions are the most fun, but once you've done 3 or 4 you've done them all.

If you're a fan of Halo and don't mind paying $60 for mindless pew pew, you may have some fun playing Destiny. If you are a fan of Borderlands, this game will piss you off to no end. It's not a MMORP, it's just a bland FPS that employs remote servers even for single player elements.

I gave it 0 (in reality it's more lke 5) because bunch of trolls here give it 10, and that's clearly someone who works for Activision or Bungie, there's absolutely nothing 10 about Destiny.

I also don't know if Destiny franchise will be successful. First Halo was good and Halo story was quite epic. Destiny story is quite stupid, and its first game is a disappontment. Not sure how one builds on that.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
