Unoriginal console shooter that brings nothing new to the table. Instead this game rides with the same CoD 4 gameplay and adds few RolePlayingGame and Halo elements. Boom! Brand new game.

Destiny is a 20 minute game attached to a 2 year gear grind.

The game doesn't really possess a plot to speak of, which doesn't stop it from interrupting the gameplay far too often with useless narration. EVERY mission in this game is an identical copy of the one before. I can't stress that enough, every mission in this game is the same. Go to a location, activate a terminal, then

That's it.

The quests are boring, the story is nonexistent and so is the loot. The rewards system is just asinine, do not expect to be rewarded for any time or effort placed into this 'game'.

All in all, Destiny isn't a game, it's a cluster of DLC pretending to be a game, and it's more than happy to take you along for the ride.

This game is NOT what it seems to be. I felt disappointed when I first played after all that video promotions. To me it's just another pure shooter, but what is worst about it is the way everybody sells it as: THE GAME.

This is not THE game, as it is not a next gen either.

RPG leveling/stat building loot system? Frivolous, random, rote, overly grindy.
PvP multiplayer? Unfinished, gloriously imbalanced, been-there-done-that, glitchy.

I should have seen this coming from Activision regardless who actually developed it because otherwise it's hard to imagine Bungie was actually involved.. It's the same boring, repetitive, unintelligent mess that has become (and continues to perpetuate) Call of Duty. No actual thought went into play testing, reflection, or common sense mechanical decision making.

A perfect example of everything fundamentally wrong with this game is the story. Clocking in at around 10 hours, it ends exactly how it starts- no characters, no point, no plot, and so full to the brim of watered down sci fi psychobabble every single loading screen consists of nothing but disjointed terms that mean nothing and sound ridiculous. "A ketch!", "Queen of bleh", "the darkness bluh", "A koris!", "Storm of Struvock", "The tinkle of flub"... I've read better science fiction on the back covers of JA pulp novels at the public library.

Once you finish the entirely anticlimactic story (not that you cared anyway), what else is there?

Well, if you've got a couple of friends and you like playing overly drawn out horde mode missions that you've already completed in the story campaign you might find a couple hours of fun in the "Strike" playlists. The first thing you'll notice is that most of the post game gear you have is now completely useless so look forward to replaying the same hour long boss fights over and over in the hopes you'll randomly get better gear just to play the same missions on a higher difficulty*. You'll do this until you realize you can get more and better drops in 20 minutes of PvP than you could in several hours of PvE.

*Difficulty is completely relative by the way as every single enemy in this game (besides the basic minions) has splash damage based attacks and no amount of armor will stop you from getting killed repeatedly from enemies who don't even need to shoot you. Enemies who's AI doesn't at all improve with difficulty, only their egregiously large heath bars. This all presupposed you have a few friends because good luck meeting new people thanks to the convoluted and painful "fireteam" system.

When you do find that drops are much more plentiful in PvP you can spend hours getting pissed off over horrendously lazy, mind blowingly imbalanced, shoddily designed mechanics in one of a couple modes. You have TDM, Domination, and variants of 3v3 slayer.

TDM is about what you'd expect from CoD- spawn in some random place and run around for a few moments before getting insta-killed by a jumping rocket, a hilariously far-reaching lunge melee attack, or any number of head-scratchingly overpowered "super" attacks.

Domination (called "control" here) can be fun if it wasn't for some of the worst map design in FPS history. No hyperbole- every single map was designed solely with spawn trapping in mind. There will be two points in a somewhat close proximity with direct, safe lanes of view to a third, proportionately farther away point. If you start on the good side and cap both close points, victory is pretty much a given as you can stand behind cover and easily pick off the enemy as they spawn over and over too far away to cap another point. Not that it matters when a single super attack can completely secure (or stop) a point capture with zero effort.

I wont talk about the third mode because ultimately it doesn't matter. The fact is the PvP side of things is at best broken and at worst non-functional. Watch in rage inducting glee as you: get killed by supers through walls, enemies mysteriously take no damage at opportune times, are unable turn your head to look around you (even with your sensitivity on blast), get stuck on map terrain, get match made 2v6, constantly have players quit mid match with no penalty, struggle to navigate map poor design, constantly fight with the most aggressive sticky-aim in gaming history (and still not hit anything), and drop dead before an enemy actually attacks OR kill enemy players only to watch them run around and shoot at you for full seconds before they finally die.

According to Bungie.net I've played Destiny for almost 24 hours stretched across 3 days and I've seen absolutely everything this game has to offer already; every mission, map, mode, and weapon. I've seen at least enough to know that there isn't enough content to keep my interest and no matter how much (or across how many modes) I play "The Crucible" it doesn't get any better.

The biggest con in video games history. P t barnum once said that a sucker was born each minute and Destiny is further proof of that. Activision and bungie are laughing and rolling in mountains of cash. 500 million day one sales, for an insubstantial bit of rubbish that's closer to dried bird droppings scraped from a shoe than to a playable video game. Well done gentlemen.

"Many generations ago (shortly after present day), the emergence of a gargantuan construct known only as "the Traveler" ignited a Golden Age of technology and exploration for humanity.

The Golden Age would last for centuries, but human civilization fell victim to a cataclysm of extraordinary magnitude, known as the Collapse. A malicious entity known as The Darkness, an ancient enemy of the Traveler, waged a campaign of destruction against civilization. Few managed to survive the devastation. The Traveler is now silent and dormant, while those who survived united to build The City beneath it, establishing the last bastion of civilization in the solar system."

500 million dollars and this is the best they could do. Notice I didn't capitalize those nouns; those are the names they gave their characters, their locations, their foes. If that doesn't tell you that this game lacks any sort of creativity I don't know what would.

The gunplay is slick, the worlds look great, it can be challenging. Where's the soul of the game though? If this is supposed to sit on my shelf next to LotR and Star Wars, where's the imagination? It reminds of when Ubisoft said they had Assassin's Creed "down to a science". Sure it may play well and be incredibly stable and graphically rich, but it has no longevity or emotional conviction. It's soul less corporate trash, and that's what's wrong with this game.

If you enjoy a competent shooter and do not need a deep plot or characters that matter, then you can enjoy Destiny for what it is. The rest of us were promised something more, much more. They failed to deliver anywhere near what they had said they would, and so their ratings shall fail so they will know we hold them to their promises.

First of all - it is not an MMO. 3 player missions and 6 player pvp and one single 6 person raid with no matchmaking is not Massive Multiplayer. Clans are pointless - theres no in game integration such as seeing a clan roster, adding/booting/promoting members, having a clan dojo, etc.

Theres no singleplayer - all raids force you into a team of two randoms and theres no proximity chat , and multiplayer "public" areas are populated with only 2 or 3 scrubs at a time. Public events are a joke and you will solo them in 30 seconds flat. The story is confusing and pointless. You never fight any darkness, only space zombies and robots. The final boss is floating black diarrhea and feels out of place. The raid is complete bullshlt and a waste of a good 20 hours. Rather than punish you for messing up like Dark Souls, it just punishes you for playing.

PVP is a waste since theres no ranking, no ranked matches, and no hardcore mode without supers and perks. Theres actually only 2 modes - killing and control a circle while killing. No flag, no oddball, no bomb, no objective. And when you win you get nothing, yet kids that AFK or suck get exotics. The loot system is broken and will drive you mad.

The formula for Destiny is 75% farming a cave, and 25% watching loadscreens. I wish I could get my money back but I bought Digital. -10 out of 10

PVP is horrible, they refuse to fix any of the issues. Supers and radar are just ridiculous in PvP and everybody just abuses it. I would really like a game mode without either but that would be hoping for too much from Bungie. Drop rates on items are better now but getting the best gear has to be done in the raid. I've completed the raid 6 times now on multiple characters (different classes) and have yet to get one piece of armor (only shards and energy). So here I am stuck on the 5th week without having any of the highest light gear. You can imagine how frustrating that can be when most of your friends are level 30 already. But it's ok, I guess you can make another character of the same class to try and get more raid gear. That about sums up how broken the raid is.

Moving on, the one thing I was excited for was Iron Banner event and that is even more broken then standard PVP. Not to mention the fact that it is only control ATM which is by far one of their worst game modes. Everyone just camps back with *wait for it* vex exotic fusion rifles and shotguns. No matter what you do, you can't outdamage a vex exotic rifle in PvP with another primary. Over 200+ crucible and iron banner games and I have yet to get a legendary or exotic drop. Really? I regularly finish at the top of the room only to find out I got nothing for being better than everyone else. But it's ok, we will give that guy who is 4 and 17 an exotic autorifle, he needs it more than you.

To sum it up, this is the most socialist-communist game EVER F***ING MADE that makes everyone just as good as everyone else. It's all about catering to every type of player and making sure no matter how bad you are, you will never be left behind. I'm sorry but I'm sick of games going down this path. This is not how Bungie use to do things especially with the competitive multiplayer system they once had their Halo games.

They keep saying this game will never be like Halo which is a problem because Halo scored near 100/100 scores from many reviewers yet this one is getting barely over 75 from critics. Obviously you aren't doing something right and it shows on your game. The fundamentals are there, the gameplay is there, but the finished product is lacking in any sort of meaningful content besides the same raid you can do every week, the same 6 strikes you can do over and over, and the same broken piece of s*** that is the PvP. I am truly sad that this game didn't reach its potential because I loved all the Halo games. This game just tried to be too many things and cater to too many people instead of doing what it did the best.

If you wonder why I give this game a zero is because the story is clearly not finished and has no purpose, other than to get you to level 20. In general, all the missions have no meaning to it therefore this game has no meaning to me, therefore the zero. Oh, did I mention the PvP? Yeah...so done with this game, what a pile of crap from one of my favorite companies of all time. Oh how times have changed....

This game is pretty much a poor mans Borderlands. Its simple. Kill enemies, get loot, kill more enemies, get "better" loot that is just a reskin of previous loot, but with a different color.

Missions are literally the same thing over and over again. Kill waves of enemies, protect the robot or kill waves of enemies while protecting the robot. or kill waves of enemies, while protecting the robot while fighting a boss. THis is just flat out terrible and being lazy.

No, MatchMaking or LFG. When you get to the end game content, you better have friends who own and play Destiny, because if you don't, you are pretty much beat and wont eb able to beat any of it. Other players are already in Strike Teams, so its pretty much impossible to do any of the end game content...unless you enjoy leaving and coming back and leaving and coming back to your home planet just to invite people to your strike team in hopes of them actually joining it.

It looks like Halo and plays like Borderlands, which is bad considering the huge bucket applied for this game. It's a huge disappointment for me. The multiplayer is so so, the "story mode" is boring and bland. The worst of it, by far, is the hype they gave us, for this? What a huge disappointment. I think twice about pre-ordering games from now on.

Let me start out by saying this game is probably a 5 but I gave it a 0 because the bungie fanboys have all given it a 10 to boost it's score. It is not a 10 if it were it would be perfect, no game is perfect so no game is a 10/10 (you may have noticed 360 PS3 and xbone reviews all have lower scores for this game). With that out of the way let me begin.

The single player campaign in this game is not just repetitive it is literally the exact same scenario over and over again past the third mission, what's more the missions barely last longer than the time it takes to load the mission itself and they all take place on the same maps. You are required to grind which unfortunately leaves you watching the same unskippable cut scenes over and over again. The loot is few and far between and the games AI could do without the 'I' at the end of it, your enemies present almost no challenge to the player. The game lacks depth and the drive to finish the game is noticeably absent. This is in no small part due to the lack of story and bad voice acting, where this games campaign does shine it's soundtrack unfortunately I find myself disconnected from the server too often to appreciate it. (There is no reason this shouldn't be played offline)

The Multiplayer has potential but unfortunately there are only 4 game modes and they are already being dominated by the higher level players with access to the best weapons. Sadly being disconnected from the server mid game is something you will also have to put up with. If you're looking for a new game to replicate your old halo experiences without any of the backstory, heart or atmosphere this is the game for you unfortunately it isn't the game for me. I will be returning for a discount at a used game store.

Soo what you get is a company that made a game that is not good at either, kinda like those movies/shows that are comedies with too much drama and dramas with too much satire--you're left with an unbalanced and confused product. That's Destiny. It didn't have the balls to just come out and say "ITS HALO LITE!" but it also didn't have enough creativity to make it something innovative or narrative-driven.

    Pros:

    Looks pretty

    Cons: Everything else. Really.

    No 60fps

    No online chat

    No single player campaign

    Not open world. Bland maps.

Atrocious AI. DayZ bad. For real.

    Forgettable story and characters.

    Weak customization

    Super low level cap.

This game doesn't know what it wants to be. It clearly has dollar signs in its eyes as it shamelessly attempts to cover all its bases (genre-speaking) but bc it decided not to stick to something singular what we have is a soulless hodgepodge of restricted MP, no solo campaign, and direction and identity-free gameplay that is more of a chore than anything else.

So, only get this game if and when your friends have it and are available to play it with you. That is the only way you'll ever enjoy it. So, I thought I was a getting a huge multiplayer game that I might make some friends on, but no. You can't make friends if you can't communicate. The reasons Bungie gives for this are so stupid I won't ever buy one of their games again. I feel ripped off. Why didn't they talk about this at E3? No, it's just some little side story on an article you don't come across unless you actually search it.

NO singleplayer offline is totally insane, how can I love the game without a clue what the story is! since i do not have friend to buy this, its so hard to enjoy it, bungie clearly has the ambition, but it's not a great online game, please make another halo-like game cause its your strong suit, and by the way, it's not even close to borderlands.

So, I have been playing this game for about 15 hours and I have so say that it is not the game changer that we all thought it would be. Overhyped crap just like titanfall and watch dogs. Its boring and repetitive and it plays just like any other fps. I honestly want my money back.

I thought release version would be different from beta, but i was wrong. This game sucks. Its not MMO. Its a rip off Borderland. All you do is grinding, grinding and grinding the same mission. Go to point A and kill wave of npc, then go to B and do the same thing. For 60 $ you will get poor plot full of cliches, a lack of content, silly AI. It doesn't even feel like its a big social world. Because all you see is 3-4 people on hunting grounds and 10-15 in city . And there are even no tools to communicate with them properly. PVP feels like downgrade from their previous games, Halo.
And don't forget that Activion in the house. So you will see a LOT OF DLC, Wanna new content - buy DLC.

Bosses have just one move pattern, shoot. They don't react dynamically and don't have any special move. The game's boss design is absolute failure.
Enemies don't drop guns. so how dare can it be compared with Borderlands?
Mission design is linear rail shooter. And it doesn't have any escape scene, turret scene, melee-only scene, stealth scene, even sniper scene like old BF3. Just run and gun style and do we happen to be living in those 90s once again?

The game just feels like its on repeat it gets annoying you cant talk to no one its a antisocial game its just a mess this saddens me after all the hype reminds me of watchdogs flop

    Home from midnight release:
Setting up: Vanguard DLC doesn't work. I'll think 'whatever, I'll get it tomorrow or the day after.

BUT! The game has so many other good elements in it that makes you keep playing it, its funny how it works out. They perfected many of the other aspects that it makes up for it by such a degree. The story, which is one of the main parts of any game can be made up by so much is amazing. Although in the end, without it. A game that would have been a masterpiece has fallen short to the realm of being just a good game instead.

The reason I gave this a lower score is because Bungie and Activision has so much money behind this thing and has everything planned out so meticulously, the only way to get their act together is to give them fear of it failing. If you give them a high score, they will just simply ignore the problems and give us less in the end.

Repetitive- There is really only one mission over and over. Deploy ghost at a certain point and defend him against waves. Eventually you'll find a boss that is really only a bullet sponge and nothing more. The sword mission was awesome as it was the only break in the monotony.
Boring- The story is short and uninspiring. It has potential but is hardly explored. The voice actors seem to be doing what they can with what they're given. Why not just let Dinklage use his native accent?

The one that loved to make GAMES?? Now they only love making MONEY. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh my goodness, for the love of King Henry's bird! What a load of boring old twaddle. Unbelievably boring and repetitive campaign AND PvP multiplayer. Ridiculously long load times, 30 fps sluggish controls, unimaginative player v player mp (domination and death match! really that's it???), boring grind....oh and did i forget to mention it's friggin boring. I'd prefer to go shopping with my wife and listen to her waffle on about Kim Kardashian's **** for an afternoon.

Do not buy this over-hyped bloated mess, no I'm not talking about my wife still.

    Where's the gun customisation?
Why do the controls feel like they are constantly angry at you and insist on fighting against your every command?
Where's the reason to even play this?
    Why did idiots pre-order this?
Why is it a multiplayer game and there isn't really any decent multiplayer?
Why am I sat in loading screens more than in the game? Doesn't the PS4 have 8 gig of RAM?

Waste of time and space, no pun intended.

Got to go, I'm off shopping with the wife.

A HUGE disappointment, advertised extremely well as a MMO shooter with hundreds of hours of game play out of the box to a more realistic and saddening boring repetition in less than an hour.

I usually play for story. If story is your thing, then let me be clear: there is no story. None. Script, voice acting and plot are all terrible. The foundation of the game is fun, but certainly not something that will entice me to pick up the DLC. My heart has been broken, I really wanted to love this game. Instead it is simply average. Maybe next time... :(

The game has good mechanics and is pretty, but overall is boring, repetitive, lifeless and offers nothing new to the genre. Not only that but the developer has the nerve to tell us that the game and fun doesn't really start until you hit the level cap.

Next time the budget should go to game development rather than marketing (hype), we gamers would do the marketing for free, if the game was good. Sadly this is not the case with destiny.

Just terrible, nothing special about this game at all. The marketing department did a good job but the development team clearly didn't put in the same amount of effort. This game is gonna need a lot of time before its anywhere near worth playing.

Not the worst but definitely one of the most uncomplete games I have ever played. Few levels, few enemies, eternal loading times, repetitive events with absolutely no variation. To be fair, the classic multiplayer PvP is quite fun but it's not balanced well. I wish I hadn't bought this game.

Activision garbage. A $60 game with 2/3 of the content removed on release so they can charge you more money to play the rest of the game. Nerfs all around for financial reasons only. Moving on...

Only reason I give a 3 is for the wonderful sound and environment art. Music isn't great though and no way to disable it.

The worst part is the story. I have reached level 27 without playing 3/4 of the story missions. They are uninteresting anyway (no storytelling, no immersion, just stupid go in and kill missions) and get reused all over the time. Its really really bad how much they let you revisit the boring missions: ****
The game is nowhere done or cut in pieces by design to get the max out of the idiots. If Destiny wouldnt have been free for me (got it in a bundle) I'd be pretty upset.

No Story: That's right, this game has no story or plot you just fight bad guys why? Because you do. Nothing is ever explained. Oh well, Maybe in DLCs...

Everything is planned as payed DLCs: Self explanatory, everything is to be paid for. Even the story.

End note: Thing of it as buying a bag of chips, but just the bag. You'll have to pay for the chips at a later date. I can't bring myself to believe the good User reviews are made by other people then fanboys. As for the critics, that's probably where most of the development money went. Then i was Lvl 28 and was farming (a Helmet in the Raid u can do Once a week HM an normal) till release of the first DLC and i am Still Lvl 29 (-.-). Okay after a big **** of the Community i thought maybe they hear and learn something and Patch it........ NOPE Since release the same **** every Day. Then i thought maybe with the DLC would come some content that tells more about the story nope just 3 missions that u play in an hour the funniest about that is, that the areas where the quest are and u are playing were there since release of the game so nothing new (not much realy). I had to laugh when I saw it while I was playing... so at the end i decided to write this rewiev, there are so many things that I would criticize yet like ( Small Map/s, ****ty Loot System, Less Story (with DLC!!!!) and much more but many people before me or in other reviews telled about the problems of the game.

    Conclusion:

It seems to me that everyone who made Halo must have left bungie because this game doesn't even come close to the quality of halo. All the 1 shot kills drastically reduce the effect of player skill. So many people just say "Well make a hunter." That is a pathetic excuse. Or my favorite is "You just suck." I have both a titan and a hunter. On my hunter I average anywhere from a 2.8 to 4.0 KDA. On my titan I average about a 2.0. While I know it can be difficult to balance classes they haven't done a single update to the classes since launch. Now they expect us to pay money for an expansion to a game that wasn't even worth the $60 we already paid. Give the expansion away for free and balance the classes and my rating will change. What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
