It's been 6 years since Destiny came out. Back then, the trailer flashed me straight away.
The fact that the content of the trailer was only fully available a year later and the graphics were worse as promised is a reason for the new rating for me. A lot had been promised but little had been kept.

destiny is exactly the same as GLOBAL AGENDA MMO. with the exception that gloabal agenda is a true mmo and is free. and destiny has more of the same thing = more tedious boss battles , longer boss battles, more grind, more boring.

I'll never undestand why they didn't put an npg, some dialogs, some story!?
How can a mmorpg (or something that require permanent online) be without a story?! The gameplay is pretty solid but i don't have a reason for keep playing. I really don't care about the world around me that seems like a world of space-art-screenshots!

And for a lot of player the loot system in the game will literally spit in your face as you redo the same content over and over again and this is even after the patch that "fixed" the Cryptarch.

After completing the Vault of Glass for three weeks in a row all I have to show for it is a pair of gloves, a ship (which is purely cosmetic), a shader (which is purely cosmetic), and a boat load of Ascendant Shards I can't use to upgrade anything because the game won't GIVE me anything to use them on.

If you're into grinding over the same content over and over again with little to show for it then this is the game for you. If you want to feel like you're accomplishing anything for your time this is not the game for you. Especially with the non-existent story.

The only question I have to ask is... What did they spend the 500 million on? Graphics and marketing?

Terrible mediocre game experience. It certainly is not an MMORPG and it certainly is not a gear grinder with a fast combat action like D3. So what is it ? An anti social shooter with a terrible Lore smashed onto it. I had high hopes for this game, but I pity the stockholders of ATVI already.

Bobby Kotick can be wrong after all.

It's important to remember that many of the glowing reviews for Destiny were posted in the first couple of weeks, when the game still seemed like it had potential. After putting in some 200 hours, I discovered that Destiny eventually becomes the worst kind of loot grinder you can imagine. It includes some of the worst aspects of RPG and MMO games, namely the repetitive play as you look for loot. This part of the game can be addictive, but keep in mind that the game world is actually quite small compared to games like Skyrim and Dragon Age, so the boredom sets in fast.

Something else to be aware of is that Activision has seen to it that the game pushes players toward the very expensive DLC ($20 each) packs by creating a variety of paywalls that will restrict your gameplay once you reach some of the endgame content. It's a cheap way of pressuring players into paying, or else excluding them from content they've already paid for.

Something else to keep in mind is that the game is not meant for solo play. While you can do some content alone, if you don't have at least 5 good friends, you'll find yourself shut out of the "raids", which are considered the best of the endgame stuff. Bungie refuses to put matchmaking in, so anyone who doesn't have friends online is going to be out of luck.

If you pick this up cheap, or wait for an edition that includes all content, it might be worth a play, but NEVER pay full price for it. The concepts had some potential, but most of it was squandered by game design decisions that revolve around making money, first and foremost.

This is a solid game. Its almost like a first attempt at making halo an mmo.

Things I DO like: 1. Game mechanics - shooting feels amazing. I've been playing fps since CSS and this is one of the smoothest shooters I've every played. The weapons need balancing but that's to be expected. 2. Graphics - good graphics, could use some variance however. Bosses and terrain starts to look

    2. Graphics - good graphics, could use some variance however. Bosses and terrain starts to look identical after a while, but what they did choose to focus on was well done
    3. Gear - I like the variety of weaponry and the way gear in general looks, character aesthetics in general deserves some praise.

On to what I DON'T like:
    1. This was way over hyped as an mmo, of course they couldn't just come out and tell you that you would hardly ever interact with other players. Only if you're in a fireteam, which means you basically have to be friends BEFOREHAND wtf. Anyone who has played a true MMO like RIFT or WoW will be severely disappointed. I have a huge problem with the whole basis of P2P interaction in this game. I feel lied to.
    2. repetitiveness. I literally said multiple times throughout the game "oh I must just have to grind through this to get to the real "meat" of the gameplay. Wrong. You shoot aliens for 20 hours then guess what. you shoot some more aliens. Nothing about that is fun, we've all done it a thousand times.
    3. Did I mention that calling this an MMO is a travesty?
    4. "worlds" should be renamed to "maps" an entire planet...say...the moon, is just a bunch of missions on a closed map with identical spawns. Thats right folks, this is not open world, you don't "travel" you're loading a map.
    5. Someone else put it best when they said the main city hub is worse than starting locations for most MMOs.
    6. This is not an MMO.

Conclusion: I like the game, its fun to play, but honestly we were straight up lied to about the scope, depth, and type of game this is. Its a good first try. They can build on it. But I learned my lesson. No more day 1 purchases from me bungie.

Please don't devalue my review or dismiss it it as being a "troll" because I'm not rating this game very highly. I wasn't paid to praise it so I'm giving an honest impression of what I felt after spending $60 on this product.

The game probably had a higher marketing budget (and funds allocated to expensive Hollywood actors) than it did for the game design department. Let me breakdown my impressions in a bulleted format:

    PROS:
+ Soundtrack: An absolutely amazing orchestral score makes the setting feel epic!
+ UI Art: The menus and interface art is reminiscent of Jules Verne and old-school H.G. Wells. It's gorgeous and deserves kudos.
+ Gunplay: Aside from a heavy reliance on iron sites (something that afflicts a lot of console shooters), the gunplay feels very much like it was lifted from Halo - which, if you're a fan of Halo, you'll enjoy.

    CONS:
    - Lack of Open World: Destiny is no more an MMO than Dead Island. The heavily instanced missions feel less like "planets" and more like a very small collection of maps. You select a mission, watching a loading screen, start the map and kill a bunch of enemies. Rinse/repeat.

    - Lack of Enemy Diversity: After hour 5, killing the same handful of enemies gets VERY boring. I don't feel any sense of progression when I'm killing the same Dregs and Shanks from minute 1. This feels exceedingly more awful as more and hours pass.

    - UI Design: Sure, the UI art is amazing (can't praise it enough actually), but the design is downright awful. It was clearly designed for a mouse pointer and yet we're playing (as of now) a console exclusive game with analogue sticks to navigate menus. The overall user-experience is clunky and needlessly frustrating.

The icons are completely arcane and I have no idea what I'm looking at when I see them. Since there is little color use, I'm left guessing what the obscure shapes mean...and I'd had better luck teaching myself Japanese. Also, why does my Waypoint vanish? Who thought that was a good idea? I'm constantly summoning Dinkbot so I can see where I'm supposed to go because the waypoint vanishes after a few seconds. That's an extra step that is completely unecessary.

    - Poor Mission Design: The formula become increasingly boring after the second or third time of killing swarms of identical baddies that act the exact same way over and over again. Since we're expected to do this several times (see: grind), the laziness of the poor mission structures really become apparent. I'm only on Day 1 of this game and I'm already growing bored with it.

    - Cringeworthy Lore/Writing: Peter Dinklage is getting all sorts of crap for his terrible VO acting in this game and I find that completely unfair - it's not the acting, it's the terrible writing. No amount of Hollywood star power can turn a bad script into Shakespeare. The premise is overwrought, the delivery is awful and I really don't even like hearing the creature names ("That wizard came from the moon!").

    - Boring Core Game Loop: Destiny feels like a re-skinned version of Borderlands 2 but lacks the addictive draw that game has: loot-chasing. There is no real instant gratification of seeing items drop from slain enemies and having to repeat the same boring scenarios only to receive a random number generated loot prize in a victory screen feels less compelling.

    - Reliance of Others For Fun: This was the game breaker for me. On more than one occasion, I was grouped with mute strangers that were either terrible players (stirred up the hive and then died, forcing me to contend with an increased difficulty curve of enemies that were often frustrating to deal with) or I was the noob that simply followed in the wake of someone else clearing the mission's enemies before I could even get a shot off. Both scenarios felt terrible.

    - Obscenely Long Loading Screens: these loading screens can reach up to a minute in length and when you're merely traveling from a menu map to the non-action hub location, sitting through the same spaceship cutscene loading screen again and again becomes difficult to tolerant.

    - Last-Gen Design: This game was clearly designed for the 8 year old Xbox 360/PS3 hardware because the maps have a lot of view occlusion (they're not as open as most PC shooters) and often feel hamstrung by last-gen limitations (particularly the number of players you can see, have in your group and can fight each other. The only thing you're getting with the PS4 version is an increased display resolution and some material resolution enhancements.

    FINAL WORD:
I'm angry at myself for falling for the marketing the hype (seriously, this game was hyped more than the World Cup). It's not an MMO Shooter and I don't see it having any longevity. I'm hoping I can get a decent trade-in credit for this game because $60 was a lot of money for me and I really don't like wasting it. There are much better games out there that you could spend your $60 on and not feel bored an hour into playing.

So far biggest disappointment of the year for me. Lvl 15 titan and that's it, no more interest to play the game anymore. Boring as hell, story is bad, missions are very repetitive, looting is weak, PvP is terrible and overall lack of content. Graphics are great and so is the music, but that alone doesn't make the game good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great shooter that can be completed in 9 hours or so. Multiplayer is simple and satisfying. that said it grossly misrepresents what it is, It has progressive up to level 20 which you might reach during the story campaign. Beyond that lies arcane leveling system that emphasizes random loot farming repetitive quests grinding and pseudo MMO social aspect (With no chat nor trading allowed) Current grind to experience the Raid content is balanced to drag on with convoluted currency, faction reputation requirements and a weird loot system that is there for little else than a forced slowdown of your progress to elongate the end game's otherwise paltry amount of content.

If you are looking for a game to play with 3 friends co-op this is really good for a short while. If you are looking for a more involved experience prepare to be underwhelmed by shallow interaction beyond the shooting and arbitrary systems of progress. Definitely not a game with a 10 year appeal or content at this point. It might improve with more money in it in the form of DLC over time but what doesn't improve with more money? It is hard to see where they spent 500 million dollars beyond the nice graphics and music. For example GTA 5 had tons of content, music and the graphics were top notch too and did it with half the money. Perhaps most of it went to marketing because it is a good game but nothing revolutionary or new at all.

Youll find yourself spending 5 hours completing "bounties" only to receive nothing worth your time. You hit level 20 in a day or two, then youll be stuck on a level forever. This game has the stupidest leveling system ever created. Level up with "light" points that is gear based. Stupid. LOL. If you've played a real mmo and are hoping for one here, turn away. If you want a shooter, get battlefield or call of duty. Multiplayer "pvp" aka crucible aka td or whatever you wanna call it isnt much more fun. Its HALO with special powers. This is a game targeted to audiences that thrive on multiplayer, co-op and online battles. I don't judge these type of gamers, I am only saying that for me gaming is an art better experienced single. Destiny is beautiful, its gameplay works very well and I have been impressed how easy it is to get hooked with this game. I found myself at awe with the planets and the locations and as a sci-fi enthusiast I have to say it's very impressive indeed. The servers seem to work well. I played with some of my friends online and it went smoothly but after a dozen of hours in, that was it for me. The end. I tried and tried to find purpose in what I was doing, but there is no purpose in this game. No interesting characters, the characters are fellow gamers from around the world that roam around the planets (sounds nice as an idea but not for me). The locations although beautiful repeat themselves and there is a lot of backtracking.

If you want a good story please stay away and save your money. This is a ''starter pack'' for sure to be updated with billions of DLCs. Clever move from Bungie and Activision to make money on top of their final product but I am a romantic gamer who apparently learns from his mistakes and returned this game. The fellow gamer who enjoys online gaming and will pick it up will have a blast. I was disappointed.

As for the actual areas they look nice of course but so much for this massive world spending the first few hours of the game visiting the same tiny little space-port as each return reveals yet another room in this epic warfare across the galaxies you will have to unlock to story corridor by corridor, same room after same room filled with same enemies after same enemies.

PvP/Crucible is a painful experience in a very small circular map, their is no real rhyme or reason to the flow of combat, supercharge abilities just one shot you or your enemy and its about as generic of a shooter experience as could be asked for.

The MMO-experience is wanting you see others but no point do you feel inclined to include them the controls and interaction and worse than basic with DC Universe leading the way on how a console should allow social interactions in MMO's, if you have friends playing the game it will increase the enjoyment but this isn't a game feature that's just playing with your friends and there are far better options for you to spend your money on to play together.

As for character creation was very basic a part I looked forward to alot but was let down very badly as about as basic of a face creator as possible not much else to say about this part.

Overall for the budget and hype surrounding the game along with the price tag its a total let down, generic warframe feel to the limited class options, 4 ability options for each class also screams warframe and the planetary mission selection and general UI is poor.

Generic lifeless AI that just attack you in waves and do nothing in particular most times you can strafe and avoid fire
    Bland MMO experience
Social interactions limited with other random players
PVP experience is woeful mainly due to the base mechanics of the game and PVP maps are terrible little circles you fight in

If this game is actually finished with any kind of appreciable story, more than three NPC that are not just storekeepers with tourette's style exposition, and some actual sci-fi to the gear in the game, then it will be worth a second look. As it stands currently, it is too short, too dull (endless waves of the same enemies), and too expensive compared to better shooters. The only way to win this game is not to play.

Sadly this game just falls flat on its face. It tries to incorporate RPG elements into a FPS, but doesn't flesh out any sort of character customization. Three very similar looking races and three very similar classes just does not cut it. There is very little exploration. A few nooks and crannies to crawl through, but the worlds are extremely small and linear when you take a step back and look at the whole thing. And my main gripe was the one-sentence dialogue for any singular topic. It felt like there was no real story going on.

As for gameplay... well... its "meh". Your average shooter with regenerating health and instant melee kills. There are maybe five different variations of mobs which are repeated for each enemy race. And all behaved the same. All the bosses are EXACTLY the same: glorified bullet sponges/regular enemy with more health. The levelcap is extremely easy to reach, I only played seven hours and got to level twenty. Its just all around "meh".

If you are looking for yet another generic FPS, go ahead and give the game a try. You might like it.
If you want the Sci-Fi action RPG shooter that was promised, save your cash.

In the COMPETITIVE mode, it is an even sadder story. You can not communicate at all to the competition or say "good game" between matches, and even more mind boggling - you can not even talk to your whole team unless they're on your friends list and you've added them to your squad as well. You heard me right - they thought it was a smart idea to create a competitive team game where you cannot communicate and coordinate with others, only your friends. So much for a connected game. The radar also shows you where every enemy is, all the time. So there is very little excitement and ambushing people in the competitive, and less challenge in the story mode. If other games follow this trend, say goodbye to teamwork, stealth tactics, and finding new friends in games. Expand

Its got the FPS/RPG from borderlands 1/2 only without the colour.

    Or humor.
    Or fun.

But you know what it DOES HAVE?! Brown and grey (Much like most games released post-COD4) and Bloom. "Next gen graphics" which still fail to stand up against most PC games from the past 3 years.

I honestly can't recommend it to anyone but console fan-boys. Its too bland and 'meh', something $500 Million in marketing maybe should of been put towards. Repeated levels. Same enemies. Bland gunplay. If it wasn't for all the hype then it would not have been given anything close to a 10/10.

My experience with game playing solo was completely different from when I had friends to play with during the beta (they were unimpressed by the beta, so they passed). It's particularly frustrating to see other human players on the map but there's no open chat channel so I'm unable to communicate with anyone, so it like playing with bots.
On the plus side I do like the skill trees and the amount of customizable weapons and gear. The use of the Tower as a hub to acquire new gears, bounties, etc was enjoyable - but again, I found myself frustrated seeing so many players but there was no way to get a few together for a fire-team to go on some missions.
If I had bought this on disc I would be trading it in tomorrow, so this has also made me re-think pre-ordering AAA games digitally going forward.

Destiny is a first for me on two counts. It is the first game in which I managed to reach max level within two days (which did take me a while to do, I will admit) and it also marks the first pseudo MMORPG I have ever played that has truly bored me both during the climb to the end game and then after it.

As many others have noted, the fighting is largely repeated from mission to mission. There is little variation and little excitement in the plot. The gear also fails to provide that sense of achievement and awesomeness that you'd find in Borderlands (largely because there is no sense of variety in what you find and equip).

The end game raids, PVP, events, etc do mix things up a bit, but after a couple hours of any of the above, you will again be overwhelmed by a feeling of staleness and repetition.

Overall, I'd have to say the game is...pretty disappointing.

Within the first two missions of the "story" they used the excuse "go check this out" so lame. The console may not just provide the interface for a MMO those game maybe regulated to PC. Destiny sucks as a MMO, not enough levels, not enough scale, scope, not enough to explore just not enough. Destiny also sucks as a FPS, the controls feel sloppy, the guns are blamed and not easy to understand. Why not show me a delta between impact of what I have equip vs the gun I am evaluating? Compared to it's closest cousin, borderlands, the FPS side of this game is slightly better. It feels like Bungie is stuck in the time when they started developing this game, 2005. Back then a good FPS like the old COD's and Halo's worked. These days Battlefield is a game changer in the FPS world. While Destiny is ahead of the POS Titanfall, it falls behind COD and isn't in the discussion with Battlefield. More bad stuff. The armor, you know what was cool about customizing the armor in the Halo series? Master chief was SO iconic that it was acually interesting to see some customization of it. But sense this series doesn't bother making any kind of iconic character or any kind of connection to it and in addition the build up of the armor is SO fast you basically instantly have cool armor. What about some build up? What about started with very basic looking armor and gradually getting cooler? What about being able to CLEARLY tell who is what class by their armor? Maybe it is clear to some, but istn't clear to me. And you can't paint the armor in any clear way? You can't customize your look at all? It is just bad, bad, bad. The ship, let's talk about how crummy the ship is. No cockpit and confusing scale. Where does my guy sit? Idk, there is no clear cockpit. Wouldn't it be cool to see my guy sitting in the ship while getting ready to head off to missions? Maybe we could even seem him but on that really awesome helmet I finally go, oh wait I had an awesome helmet from jump off. Oh great I can spend money getting a ship that I have no connection to. Remember all the fun adventures we had in that iconic ship from destiny? Ya, neither do i. Gameplay, headshots are way too easy, missions are repetitive. Repetitive missions are usually ok in FPS, because the story drives you to want to complete them. I mean, in almost every level in every FPS game you are going to have to go somewhere and shoot something. Well, in most of those games what is really motivating you is the want to see how the story ends. Since I don't care about the story in Destiny, I don't want to complete the missions and they get boring. That being said, most FPS's mix it up, bomb going off here, time crunch there, run away or rescue mission whatever anything. Did I mention headshots are way to easy? Like, you won't be even trying to get a head shot and you will wind up with one. Also, nothing moves in the environment, nothing is destructible I don't even know if you can knock over a simple can. Can't cut gras nothing changes. It is like it was painting this way and that is how the world always looked. Very 2005. The graphic are nice, they do landscape very well. If I want a landscape painting for my house I am calling bungie. If I want a game that feels somewhat real I am calling Dice. The problem again here is the story, we don't have any feel to see anything cool, because the story doesn't drive anything to be cool. A simple setup example "ion's ago these launchers stood tall and full" then when we see a launcher tall and full in some mission that it actually excites us. Someone in this universe needs to be working towards a clear goal and it needs to be explained to us in that space. I mean, what's the "fallen"'s goal in the game? Is it just to mess stuff up and kill people? That's fine, just say they are some kind of corrupted guardians that now hunt guardians and boom! Suddenly it is like ... that could be us? A little more weight. I could go on and on about this game, it is SO disappointing. All that being said, I give credit to Bungie for trying to be innovative and the game isn't buggy ( that I have noticed ) and navigation in the game and in the system are somewhat clear, plus 1080P gets some credit. That's why it gets a 2 otherwise, I wouldn't buy this game. Expand

It did not. I made an account solely because of poor this game was (I guess I'll review Titanfall too). Mark my words, the game will swindle you with additional content, because that is the only way they can improve this "experience".

    [-] "Shared-world shooter"
The game was described as a "shared-world shooter". This is a marketing term because Bungie doesn't even know what it is. The only world you "share" is The Tower. You can't talk to anyone there, you can't interact with anyone in any way except through four gestures which do not convey any real meaning. This place exists only for the shops, which could all have been handled through menus to spare me another loading screen (IT ALWAYS LOADS). I have a feeling this level was put in just to make the game qualify as "shared world".

    [-] Interaction with others
In order to talk to anyone, they must be in your fireteam, and half the time they don't talk anyways. I get the impression that people have been so used to the quiet that they don't think they can talk at all, thus they don't wear mics. If this game is so "shared-world", why is there no proximity chat? You can't market a game this way and not put in this CRUCIAL feature. If you are so hell-bent on FireTeams, why make it so difficult to invite people to yours? Unless you have friends who you are already chatting with, you must find a random player you want to invite, click on their name with the thumbstick, interact with them, and invite them to your fireteam. Chances are by the time you've finished this needlessly laborious process, the person will have left.

    [-] Story
...what is it? I've unlocked various planets and supposedly done several story related things, except I don't know what they are or why I should even care. I have no idea what's going on, the story is delivered poorly and there is no emotional attachment to any of the characters. I'm apparently brought back to life by a "ghost"? What is "The Darkness"? Why do they want "The Traveler"? Why is the only name you can think of for the defensive tower of Earth "The Tower"? Why are there two different kinds of enemies? Are they working together?

The story is one of the worst aspects of this game by far.

    [-] Level design
The game is further marred by its poor level design. Why are there all these caverns on the Moon that are empty? There are no side places to explore at all, and everything feels stale (and gray). You realize quickly how repetitive the game is when the next mission takes place on the same map as the previous one, except they open a small new part of it.
This is somehow supposed to be "new"?! If only 5% of the map is new, then it isn't a new level design, you just removed an invisible wall (and they are everywhere by the way). This company received half a billion dollars in budget and they couldn't even design a decent level?! And forget "open world", this game is as linear as possible - wander too far and you'll just die or run into an invisible wall.

    [-] Enemy design
The enemies are located in the same place, all the time. If you die you have to fight them all again, and let me tell you how this fight is bound to work: You fire a few rounds, the enemy teleports away, shoots you with their powerful weapon, and then you have to hide and build up your shield. Rinse and repeat: shoot, hide, shoot, hide. This is not how you design an enemy. Some enemies even have fancy titles, like "Sakrion, Nexus Mind"; it's too bad I have no idea how he is related to the story at all.

    [-] Matchmaking
So let's say you try out the PvP aspect, you'll notice immediately that you are paired with players who are twice your level or more. Why? There is no possible way that can be fair - of course the level 20 will win against the level 10. He's unlocked the subclass, a more powerful weapon, more powerful melee moves, etc.
This is not how you do matchmaking, you will be spending most of your time being frustrated at how you can't last more than a second in the face of these overly powerful enemies. You should be matched with people closer to your level, because that way there is a more even playing field.

    [-] Leveling
This game forces you to do PvP, no other way around it. Simply playing the overly-repetitive story missions won't cut it, you will end up leveling too slow for how the missions progress.

    [-] Loot
I keep getting loot in this game for no discernible reason at all. 99% of the loot is worse than what I'm already wearing by a fair amount, even the ones I find in chests. Why am I being given this? I can't sell it to my knowledge, it just takes up inventory space and I have to dismantle it.

I'm about to hit the limit, so let me add this: It loads all the time, and you'll look like everyone else until level 20.

I want to enjoy this game, the hype made it sound amazing. The graphics are great as they should be on next-gen consoles but it lacks originality. Being made by the same company that created Halo, one of the greatest franchises of all-time, fails to make Destiny any different from Halo. There are too many similarities to count when I played. I felt like I was playing Halo the entire time.

Definitely does not seem like the highest budget game ever. No classes are unique, loot system is simply random, extremely repetitive and very grind dependent. The story does a poor job of telling the story. Seems Activision has forced Bungee to fix this in paid DLCs.

Once you've spent a good 15+ hours grinding you may be able to do the vault of glass raid, but only if your prepared to find another 5 people willing to sit through the several hours required to finish it. And by find I mean "fire up your web browser and trawl some forums" because there is no matchmaking for this, along with no in general in-game chat, or clan management. Lets get one thing out of the way - the voice acting of the ghost is bad... very very bad... its a chore to listen to him and I hate that voice with a passion. Bungie... how could you waste so much money on that voice is beyond me...... sigh.. Honestly we dont care who you hire to do a voice for a silly A.I. character, whether its someone famous from a tv show or an unknown actor. We just want good gameplay and storyline!!!

The gameplay, as others have said, is repetitive. You find a spot, deploy your ghost, then wait, then shoot waves of enemies until its over.
The graphics are good but whats the point of having good graphics if the gameplay is dull.
    Music is non existent.
Storyline is completely non existent. Then again they were aiming this at online players who enjoy multiplayer.
But lets talk about the multiplayer. Its so dumb. You cant join others or have matchmaking facilities (they are currently discussing adding this in, but its too late bungie!). Leveling up seems boring and annoying and the fact that everyone is running around with the same armor is also a joke.
This game reminds me of Microsoft, and how they were so arrogant with their DRM and that the Xbox One would sell well, but in the end they learned an important lesson that the customer is always king.
Same thing happened here. Bungie thought, that just because it has their name from the Halo series on this game, people would talk good things about it, but that is not what happened.
Overall was thoroughly disappointed with this game, as like others, I was expected something amazing but in the end all I got was a slap in the face by a wet fish.
Thanks but no thanks bungie! The negative scores do not lie!

For MMO PVE it falls strait on its face with the worst same questing grind and daily's that you will ever see do to the lack of content and places for quest to happen. Each zone is very very small and for a open free world your limited on where to go do to ceiling and border controls.

There is only one town and in this town is every NPC you will ever meet all 18 of them. Each NPC has no back story in game nor do they make you feel like they add to the game lore but are only in place to be a vendor.

The story as stated before feels ripped apart and forced to work. One of the most famous quoted lines coming from a NPC called nothing more then "The Stranger" who says "I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain." This one line sums up so much of the limited information that you are told. If you would like to know more about in game lore you will have to stop playing the game and log in to bungie.net and read it there.

The highest weapons and armor to use are Yellow exotics but true be told they are not that exotic do to they are sold every weekend and everyone has them so at no point will you feel that you are standing out in the sea of players. Speaking of player count the most you will ever see is 16 in each zone. To combat the lag normal with large groups of people they just made hundreds of the same zone with only a 16 person cap. This way people will not lag in a zone but I limits the ability to meet new people and party up with them. On that same topic there is no LFG or party finder. Only on strikes will you get a match maker that will place people close in lvl in a group for 1 event. Right now we are limited to jumping on the forums to try and find people to play with. Also the clan support is very very weak. Yes you can have a clan and it has a 100 person cap, but there is no clan chat or anyway to see if people in you clan are online other then to have them on your friend list.

All in all Destiny feels like a hollow void of a game with no soul or care. If it be PVP or PVE or Social side of gaming I will not recommend this game at all.

You may not get your desired item after tons of attempts while one lil' **** comes into raid/nightfall/vanguard amd gets it. Next thing is the campaign. This is the worst gameplay that i've ever had to know. The missions are boring as f**k. It's variety is limited to number of types that you can count on fingers on your hand. Generally it's go somewhere, kill someone or defend something, or collect something or scan something. The sad thing is you need to do this to reach level 20. You can also play multiplayer which, for me, is pretty much boring. After that, you are collecting pieces of armor with specified amount of light that levels you up. The DLCs are just an effect of Activision's hunger for our money - the only worth might be the Comet coming sept 2015. Generally, the only fun thing im this game is cooperation included in raids and strikes. However, to do them you need a group of friends cause playing with randoms is a bad idea. And there is one questions that remains... How long can you repeat the same objectives over and over? That's the thing which at Destiny sucks. It just takes your time, you get interested in but after all, result is you will end up bored and then you realize that you wasted so much time you could allocate for better things... Expand

While you could argue that this is exactly what every video game is like if you reduce it down far enough... the difference is, most other games use mechanics like that as a way to challenge the player before rewarding them with more content.

In Fallout I might have needed to grind a few mutants to earn the money and XP to unlock a better weapon, but once I did, a whole new world of dialogues, locations and content opened up that made any grinding feel like just another part of the story.

In Destiny, Grinding IS the story, Grinding is the game play.

Most other games try to at least dilute it or reward it.

So if Mindless shooter elements and endless grind for just a slightly better version of what you already have equipped is your kind of game.

    Then you will LOVE it.

Destiny is an example of what kind of success you can have as a game developer and production company if you hype a preorder and prevent day one reviews to get you enough time to sell a record number of copies, then just tell the players they are playing it wrong when they don't like it...

Stimulating cut scenes and the storyline missions take you to the rather linear progress of the game play. If one wants to rush it, I guess you can easily do all the missions under 12h and have fun and thrill doing that. Yet the game promises so much more, so reaching your destiny within 12h seems nonsense.

And then you get hit by the grind factor. As in nearly all MMORPGs one is "doomed" to work for special resources and to get the better gear, either by questing for it, or by participation in strike missions and what is called bounties. The bounty missions are highly repetitive and massively unrewarding in terms of loot, it is just limited means to improve weapons and gear with the earned XP.

Building faction with the various vendors to get at least a bit better gear than the rare rare item drops, is weekly limited and artificially stretches the time till you can buy that stuff with your grind credits.

The rare items which offer slightly enhanced attribute bonuses are something one is happy in the beginning, the legendary items are even harder to attain and I recollect getting in total 4 so far from various random mob drops, and non of them fit my class, which is not only a downer but begs the question: why they came up with such a huge demotivating scheme.

People do have a job and work, and wont easily do multiple characters as even leveling one virtual character is already a tediously time consuming and stressing thing, considering ones free time one can allocate to gaming.

So if you are just a tiny bit of a so called loot wh... that appreciates some gratification for your "hard" virtual work and time investment, one gets a big door slam in right in the face. Then when we talk about the more serious stuff, like strikes and raids, the bonuses and rewards are mostly a joke. The raids that you can choose from, with all your shiny stuff you can wear, are mangling you and have plenty of bugs. From impenetrable glass walls where from behind the lowest ranked MOBs kill you with melee attacks, to server disconnects and glitches in the mission reward system.

Then there are the vendors... Like the one that only shows up on weekends, that ruins your quested weapons and gear as well as gathered super rare resources, because some dilettante programmer was not capable to make two different item IDs for obviously different specification of one and the same other gun (one with specs pre and one after the first expansion was released).

And that is when you get to know the help system. This is of the quality where you can not address a game master or someone that can fix things. No on the contrary, it is some sort of translation mistake where customer satisfaction has been translated as self satisfaction with an auto erotic touch.

You can post a complaint/question, and there you find them in the many... and hardly no one of the officials seem to care to answer. And if they answer with an agent, they tell you that it is basically your fault, because you could have read online in the forum before you click an upgrade option at a vendor. Or just stay away from the final boss mob and the glass.

It seems a systemic attitude nowadays, that game publishers and developers have the fling their waste at the people that pay easily 150 to 200$ for such a game, considering special collectors editions, expansion passes and add-ons, as well as additional reference books from Prima.

So what you get is a game that does not really offer that much more than a nice packaging some hours of fun, and then hold you in with stupid repetition. But if you really wanna play in depth, it reduces you to a resource gathering mule that plays so called patrol missions, where you mostly blow up easy Mobs to the hundreds and wait for public events to score some rare upgrade materials.

For the rest it is survive the bugs and keep cool when the lousy programming just killed 30 hours of resource harvesting, and do not get mad when the servers are down on weekends or you simply can not log in. Because it is your fault and never theirs.

I quite playing such a crap. My advice to you read a book instead or play guitar, that gets you way further proficiency of reading and playing an instrument, rather than attributing that amounts of time on such an unrewarding game, with literally is a dump down the drain and on the side it saves you money and it saves you the nice customer support answer that they feel your pain, but can not do a thing about it, which is new-speak for Go F... y....... and deal with our s.... because we do not care enough.

This game has been destroyed from it's original concept into a weak grind-fest for unrewarding nerfed weapons in a multiplayer that inherently cannot ever be balanced into a competitive scene. Which would be fine except they keep ruining the game to try and force the multiplayer to be competitive and balanced. There is almost no content in this game. You will replay the same 6 hours of missions until you want to vomit. At every single turn the game halts your progress with artificial gameplay extensions like limits on money, incredibly low drop rates for everything, and requiring ridiculously high amounts of resources for upgrades. This game takes many MMO RPG elements and puts them in a 1st person shooter, but doesn't even do the bare minimum of the required small things like, party finder, raid groups control, a competent way to pick where to start when people have started on the raid already, and the same goes for strikes also. There is no real teamwork besides don't die, there are no clever mechanics besides shoot the damage sponge, (unless you do the raid but like I said good luck even getting 5 other players that are at your skill level), level design is just wave defense non-stop. There are no real customization or re-customization options. No trading, no real path to earning specific gear it's all random, outdated engine, connection issues, no story, full of microtransactions, not to mention they ripped content out of the game to sell it back to us for twice the price so a game that was at one point complete and full was $60 and now is chopped up and nonsensical and costs $120. What a shame for a game that I hoped would be amazing but now is deleted off my hard drive. Expand

Each planet feels very empty with only randomly spawning enemies to fill in the spaces, sometimes a random event will spawn but those can take up to 2 hours and end in roughly 2 minutes...there's no way to communicate with the other people unless they are in your fireteam, no squad commands or nothing, dont come on Destiny looking to make any friends or play cooperatively, communicating with other players was not a priority in Bungie's pseudo MMO multiplayer shooter

It mostly takes the flaws and bad aspects of these genres and combines them.

Destiny ticks off most of the MMO tropes: You have reputation npcs, dungeons, a raid (including a weekly raid lockout timer) and battlegrounds where your gear from the pve mode is put to use as well as fairly big instanced zones with npc enemies/monsters sprinkled across them and even some warhammer style public quests.
What it lacks though is anything that makes mmos enjoyable:
-It does not have smartly designed boss encounters like world of warcraft or terra, instead the elites and bosses are just big bulletspongers with the nonexistent behavioral patterns of an elwynn forest boar.
-It lacks the social aspect of mmos, instead of being put in the zones with hundreds of other people you are (hidden)matchmade to some instant area with a handful of players that you will most likely never see again (as they will be in a different instance than you next time)
-there is no real way to communicate, there is no text chat, no zone chat, no proximity based voice chat, nothing, you can't play or communicate with people unless you invite them to your party first.
-there is no mmo style economy or trading to bring people together
It's all the bits that make an mmo bad, without the good bits that make people tolerate all the bad in a game like wow.

    On the fps/halo side:
The game lacks the vast variety of game modes from halo multiplayer, there are no skull modifiers to make you want to replay missions, there is no epic campaign with story exposition , no unique weapons like the needler.
Instead you get a story with less effort put into it than your average f2p mmo and mmo style monster spawns(the boring ones you grind your levels up on in mmos, not the cool bosses with cool mechanics).

    On the borderlands/diablo loot side:
There is not even a quarter of the variety in the weapons you get compared to borderlands, there are little to no cool effects or modifiers, most of the loot is just the same weapon within its category with a different skin, a slightly higher fire rate or higher damage. If you expected anything remotely as cool as a rocket launcher that shoots 5 homing rockets that also act as mini black holes when they explode like in borderlands then you thought wrong.

The way loot is delivered is awful too, instead of loot fountains or beams from diablo/borderlands and being able to instantly see what item you got, you have to exit to the main hub town of the game , talk to an npc and open what is essentially a gambling chest with random loot (just with a different name)
What was the point of this extra step other than to make it more laborious and annoying to check out that legendary drop (that will turn out to just be a rare weapon or helmet most of the time when you open it)

Speaking of the hub town, it serves absolutely no purpose.
There is no voice chat in the hub town even within your own group, there is no way to text chat to people, the only way to 'communicate' is with some pointless emotes.
Since the world is not actually connected (you just load into different instanced zones with loading screens from a menu) and you can't use the hub town to meet or talk to people, who did they bother with it?
They copied the concept of an mmo town (including the reputation, quest , class and vendor npcs dotted across it) without understanding why it exists in the first place in mmos...
It's just ... there... it would have been much more convenient to replace it with a menu that let you access all the store/storage/reputation menus with the press of a button, rather than force you to run back and forth between characterless meaningless npcs in a hub area that serves no purpose.

Now that I covered the game, it's time to talk about false advertising:
there have been videos of the developers pointing at the environment in the distance and saying 'see all that, you can go there! (but we won't now in the interest of time), they sold the world as being bigger than anything they had done before and set a new standard in the industry.
But you can't go there... the world is not very big at all, each planet has one biome to visit and that is full of invisible walls, battlefield type forbidden zones where you simply die if you enter and physical walls. You can't go anywhere

They claimed the game only begins after the level cap and the story, when in fact the 'post game' consists of a few boring sterile dungeons with the same boring bulletsponge bosses that can't hold a candle to an mmo boss, ONE raid (which isn't out yet) and repeating some missions in areas you have already been to , where you fight higher level versions of the exact same enemies you fought in the story , at the exact same places. If there ever was any post game content they cut it all out to sell as DLC

The fact that the story is non-existent that sends you to the website to read cards to piece together the damn story (which is allegedly from the original version of the game before they were told to turn it into an MMO-style game) should be your first warning. This game is such a big letdown. While, I never was a fan of Halo I can say that this game plays and looks great (there is nothing inherently wrong with the mechanics of game play)... the problem is you're paying full price for a game with limited missions, limited weapons, armor and enemies.

The fact that content was recently discovered to have been CUT OUT OF THE GAME only to be sold to us later is just a HUGE slap in the face to gamers everywhere. Ask yourself "why would I play DLC for a level 10 strike on Earth when many of us are already level 25?"--assuming that that cut content is actually going to be released. The fact that they've fired writers and composers didn't bode well for Destiny either. The soundtrack is the best part of the game to me... I could have saved myself $45 by just buying the soundtrack off of iTunes and gotten just as much enjoyment out of this game. If you like shooting things over and over mindlessly and playing the same levels over and over... grinding away to upgrade items then this game is for you. I beat this game in less than a week and I was only playing about 3-4 hours at a time most days and now there's nothing else to do... so unless they add in NEW content via their servers it's pretty much DOA.

I thought there was going to be more to the game than what was in the beta but it's the same types of weapons and only 3 more worlds. You can tell they put a lot of time into the design of the characters, lore and ships to build this world but they just pissed it all away to appease Activision and get it out there. Destiny should be held as an example of what not to do when you're developing a game. I should also add that the fact that you can only play with 3 of your friends at a time for strikes and main missions is just stupid. Most games do 4 players these days and that leaves out one of my friends that could be playing with us. This game was without a doubt over-hyped... I wasn't even all that interested in it until I played the Beta and fell for it hook line and sinker. All these people telling you how weapons are customize-able--compared to actual RPGs and games like Battlefield--it's a joke. I don't normally buy anything from Activision and I have a feeling this will be the last time. Do yourself a favour and just go back to playing Borderlands or Diablo III. We had Titanfall, Watch Dogs and now... Destiny. Here's to a better year of well-designed games in 2015.

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
