I think this game is pretty awesome!! Yes it gets a little repetitive but so did Borderlands and every long game I have ever played. The graphics are excellent and enemies are fun to fight. Great balance of fire power and ammo to take on the baddies. The special armor and guns are going to take some serious time investment to get. Can't wait for expansions and additional content. The few games I played in the crucible were fun. The maps I played were huge and offer a lot of different play styles. I can't wait to get back into it today!! Collecting loot isn't quite as fun as Boarderlands but is still a good time. Love getting the encrypted items and running back to the Tower to see what they are. Very solid, pretty game, that offers players a lot to do. I don't see myself playing anything else for a long time. Expand

Fantastic game. The most fun I've ever had online FPS and MMO wise. I simply cannot over stress how much fun this game is!! The reactions to this game are unfortunate. Maybe all that Activision bragging about the huge game budget was what catalyzed the negative reactions. The huge amount of money that they used for marketing could have been used to enhance certain aspects of the game. From my opinion this is the most fun you can have in a FPS-RPG-MMO-kind-of-game.

I'll start with the CONS: - mediocre
The reactions to this game are unfortunate. Maybe all that Activision bragging about the huge game budget was what catalyzed the negative reactions. The huge amount of money that they used for marketing could have been used to enhance certain aspects of the game. From my opinion this is the most fun you can have in a FPS-RPG-MMO-kind-of-game.

    I'll start with the CONS:

    - mediocre voice-acting
    - lack of finesse in using the game's lore(the lore is very interesting and you can find more about the universe by checking out the grimoire cards on Bungie's site BUT the writing is poorly done and the story fails to let you in the universe they created); there is a lot of potential but for now they did not do a very good job; it is by no means an atrocious story, it's just not well presented and could be enhanced;
    - the repetitiveness is a small issue but one which can be easily tolerated if you find yourself happy with the game; they could change a few things in the cooperative strikes, like random enemy encounters, random enemy spawning(because after 2-3 playthroughs of the same strike you will get to know the way to the bosses and the locations from which enemies spawn and you get to skip some parts just to finish the strikequickly and get your rewards)
    - the loot system can be improved, even though it is quite ok ( there are many secret locations which do not have loot in them or you get the same loot from hidden stashes)
    - the in-game fireteam communication must be enhanced(you have very limited reactions: dance, point, wave and sit; there has to be a way to improve this mechanic and add more reactions like point-to-location to improve coordination, clap to encourage a teammate, wait, stay, help etc)

    PROS:

    - perfect FPS mechanics/controls
    - awesome locations
    - awesome soundtrack(O'Donnell is the king)
    - awesome bosses and intense bossfights
    - enemy variety(up to 4 alien species with different tactics, advantages, disadvantages and different weak spots, forcing you to change your tactics accordingly)
    - awesome-looking gear(weapons and armor are awesome)
    - awesome customization (armor colour, different ships, different sparrows)
    - interesting level-up system which gives you 2 subclasses per class with 2 different combat approaches(every skill column serves for a certain ability and you may choose 2 from a column depending on how you want to play: offensive, defensive, more/less toughness, more/less speed/agility,more/less recovery, more grenades, area-of-effect kind of abilities or single enemy focused abilities etc.)
    - very fun game to play with your friends!
    - decent campaign lenght
    - lots of content with daily/weekly added stuff
    - awesome graphics
    - perfect smooth framerate
    - smart-ish A.I.( which will make Halo fans think about Halo and the behaviour of the Elites when their shields decreased etc) which changes tactics, stalks you, confront you, hides when in danger/shields low but there is still room for improvement
    - mostly no bugs(I say mostly because I have heard some people talking about a few problems but I did not experience any graphic/sound/in-game/connectivity issues in the 40 hours which I spent with this game)

I would say that this game is in no way deserving a grade less than 8. It is the kind of game which you should first play before you judge. I hope that people could stop hating just for fun and judge this game accordingly. It is a very fun game, it is not the best game of the decade and peoples should stop boarding the hype/hate trains and just play for fun.

This blend is accomplished while conveying a good, kind of cryptic, story. What I am most satisfied with, that Borderlands did not do, is that the RPG elements of damage and firing a weapon poses little interference on the FPS elements. The only similarity between Destiny and Borderlands is that it has RPG elements as a shooter. That's where the similarity ends. Talent progression, weapon progression, gear progression and leveling are completely different. Oh yeah, the graphics are also completely different.

Always Online. My job forces me to be gone with no internet for somewhat long periods of time, so yes, online only can suck. However, all the MMO's that I used to play are online only and I never complained about them. So what gives me or anyone else the right to negatively judge this game in this aspect when it was stated day 1? Face it, this game has enough MMO elements that it absolutely needs to be online. Stop complaining about something that you knew about in advance. This is not JUST an FPS.

Now, the review. I didn't give this game a 10/10 specifically for some of the story mechanics. I am not going to negatively review a game over talents or in game mechanics that can change with the flick of a hotfix.

Graphics 10 - Easy choice, this game is super polished and pulls out a lot of what the PS4 has to offer.

Game Play 10 - Much like Halo: CE the game play is very solid. There is little to nothing mechanically working against you. Mostly just the enemies working against you. When game mechanics are your enemy, you are far from solid. Getting that first blue weapon and being excited to get one of it's passives not something I have experienced in another game. Firing said weapon and validating it as being unique is also a very good feeling.

Community 9 - The lack of a chat window is both a gift and a curse. It's a gift for those of us who could care less about 9 - 12 year old's attempting to Troll. It can be a curse to those who are shy with a mic but this is a console game any way. I'd rather use voice than type with a controller, especially in a MMOish-FPSish game like this.

Story 9 - The story is outstanding and it has me hooked however being able to see the Grimoire cards in game would be nice. Bungie has also managed to keep the story mysterious as if you are actually trying to learn the history of the Earth from scratch. The one issue I have here is that I find many of my story missions or strikes (at some point) revolve around the Ghost getting me into a lot of trouble with it's addiction to hacking. Hacking very slowly I might add.

Competitive Multiplayer 10 - Yeah, getting waxed by everybody and they're mom wielding an Auto rifle can get frustrating but this is PvP. All the weapons can be countered if you use your weapon where it shines. They changed how tough you are while using a super from beta, which is a good thing regardless of how frustrating it can be when you are the victim. Nonetheless, the PvP is solid and the maps have decent variety. There are some things that I think need to be tweaked but like I stated earlier, this game will receive many patches in it's life and those tweaks will more than likely be in them.

I can see how many people instantly have negative feelings for anything that gets this amount of hype. This due to the fact that 85% of the things that get mega hyped fall short. I ask those people to try this game at a friends with their negative bias aside and prove this game wrong. Don't just play one mission and tap out. Get in a fire team, take on a strike, team up with some friends in the crucible and make this game flex for you. It will, and you will want to play it more.

Personally I absolutely love the game. The graphics and visuals are amazing. The sounds are also very, very good. Yes some of the gameplay is a little repetitive, but that's because it's not a linear game where you're going from one unique level to the next, never to visit the previous. I also liked that the environments weren't super filled up with loot and chests similar to Borderlands where you have about 1,000 chests to open at any one time.

The gameplay is excellent. When I first started playing, I felt the character seemed a little sluggish and slow. Adjusting the stick sensitivity helped with some of this. The shooting has a nice real feel to it. You get a more random recoil out of the automatics than just a straight up arc. The mix of weapons could have been a little more broad but I'm sure as the game progresses that will change (in the sense of Bungie releasing updates and mods). The PVP is also a ton of fun to play. I like that it integrates what you do in the story and has direct ties to the legendary armors. The accompanying storyline is interesting to say the least. I really enjoy the Sci Fi genre and this game embodies everything you'd expect out of that.

My advice is to go play the game without any preconceived notions about what it is or isn't supposed to be. I see a lot of reviews where players are butt hurt it isn't EXACTLY Halo or EXACTLY Borderlands or whatever. It's a really enjoyable game with a lot of great features.

I would disagree with all the reviews bashing this based on all the hype that by the way Diablo 3 had too, but yet still got high scores. They cant seem to understand this game. I know everyone is complaining about the "OH MY GOD ALL I DO IS SHOOT THINGS... I GO HERE, I SHOOT THINGS... I GO HERE AND SHOOT SOME MORE THINGS". But let's be honest, that's exactly what you do in any shooter.

Did you like it in Halo where you went to campaign mission and killed some things and then you went farther into the mission and farther into the map and killed some more things? Then you'll love Destiny.

Did you like it in Call of Duty where you cleared waves after waves of enemies while you sought after objectives and conquered the area? Then you'll love Destiny.

I also know that everyone is complaining about how it's just a "RIP OFF OF BORDERLANDS!"... Well I'm sorry to break this to you... but Borderlands used the "scaling items" gimmick from every other MMORPG in the world. Because guess what, they have scaling items just like that.

Borderlands: "OH COOL I GOT THIS LEVEL 15 GUN WHICH IS BETTER THAN MY LEVEL 13 GUN"

MMORPG: "OH COOL I GOT THIS LEVEL 15 SWORD WHICH IS BETTER THAN MY LEVEL 13 AX"

One of my big complaints, is how we don't have communications to other people near by. I really think the game needs proximity voice chat. Without it, I feel disconnected from other players on the map.

Also, the load screens are super long, but with the nicer graphics come longer load screens, so I'm kind of okay with that.

Either way, the game is great. And people who are hating to the point of giving it anything less than a 7, really aren't thinking about the situation or have no idea what they're talking about.

The locations are repetitive but the experiences in them are not. The lack of cutscenes is a nod towards that repetition. Nobody wants to group watch a bunch of video--they want to blow stuff up with their mates. I've seen outright errors in professional reviews--like the lack of ability to join up with random people you see online. You absolutely can. This game will keep me busy for a couple of months of 10 hour/week gaming. I don't like repetition. So who I am playing with and what sub-mission I am going after, or the surprise drop-in missions that started a couple of days ago all make the experience different enough to keep me coming back. Did Bungie start a game revolution? No way, but that's a pretty high bar for a 10. Expand

I do however enjoy the small group version of MMO. Rather than feeling forced to join a large guild to complete end game content I can play with my close group of friends in 3 man teams to knock out missions, and PVP.

Just look at WoW's patchnotes after the 11.11.2004 release, a game like this is being build in time, dont expect it to be the "final" version at release. For me WoW's "final" version comes with every new xpac.

Another thing, i've played BF, COD and those games are made for the multiplayer purpose, any of those games have a very limited time of campaign (good/bad it doesn't matter since the core of the game stands in the multiplayer). Look at the most beloved Dragon Age, a beautiful story, with no multiplayer ... why do you think its like that ?

Destiny's core stands in the multiplayer, PVP/STRIKES/RAIDS, so judge it from that PoV. Long grinding endgame ?!?! (well wtf Diablo and WoW and all other games on the planet are then ?).

For the moment I love the game, since it feels more casual then WoW is and that fits me just fine.

Aside from the graphics I was mesmerized by the ambiance and the soundtrack and how they really made it immersive without menus and interruptions. I noticed that most of the missions involved reaching a goal and surviving waves of enemies. They don't have the greatest AI ever written but they are definitely a challenge playing solo. I felt thoroughly stressed and panicked in particularly hard no-respawn zones but winning always felt like a bit of a rush, sort of like dark souls 2.

The multiplayer was frustrating when I played because I really did not understand the capabilities of human players. Often I was just a casualty of some super charged attack that I couldn't have seen coming, or players would kill me in one hit. It seemed very similar to the halo series on the multiplayer, but much smaller. I really like the customization of appearance and gear, even though they balance it in MP.

Overall I feel like it is a pretty great game. For those of you who seem disappointed, they are more than likely to address your concerns in future expansions / sequels to Destiny. For example the first halo games were definitely not perfect, but they improved gradually until it became a masterpiece.

This is a very fun game. Its like having a shooter MMO on console. And by all means compare it to an MMO, but remind yourself its not. It does share ALOT in common with MMOs however and thats its strong points. But like MMOs it lacks in a few departments. So hopefully the game sees some fine tuning and polishing in the next months.

Its not a game changer, but theres still fun times to be had.

Do yourself a favor and block out everything that has been said, to include the hype, and be your own judge. With that said, lets jump in. Destiny is (of course in my opinion) an amazing game with lots to offer. I personally cannot put it down. I had my reservations coming into the world that is Destiny, but I'm glad I did. Destiny is an a brilliantly, well manicured, masterpiece from a visual standpoint. The gameplay and control you feel in the game is top notch. To be expected from a group like Bungie of course. The more you put in, the more you get out. Its seems the deeper I dive into the game the better it gets, which is what we all want with any game, right? Its a slow start and takes some getting used to, mostly due to the fact that there is not a lot of explanation or guidance along your journey, not to mention a story line that falls short of great and nowhere near the potential that Bungie has. Especially given the baseline of the Destiny story leaves potential for incredibly epic storytelling. And lets not sell ourselves short here either, we have merely only begun to scrape the surface of what Destiny is and will be. It can only get better from here, Bungie will not sit by and this be all Destiny is, it is a constantly changing and growing world with endless possibilities, and the good news is, we have the best in the business to ensure that. All in All, I am personally already having a blast with this game in all areas, from MP, to solo story missions, to patrols, strikes, public events, all the way down to the decisions that define who my guardian is and will become. But don't take my word for it, discover Destiny on your terms with an open mind and see for yourself. - Jake The Jinxed (Xbox One) Expand

Let's start off with what’s good: the game is obscenely beautiful, not every game makes me want to just stop and look at what the artists have pulled off, even visiting the same areas multiple times I still just love to look around, it's freaking beautiful, the music gives me chills, it’s SO GOOD.
The combat is insanely fun, it feels polished and it's satisfying to ka-blam aliens with my shotgun or scout rifle (literally obsessed with that thing). Even encountering the same "mobs" over again isn't tedious which is an issue I have with a lot of MMOs, you get real tired of those nerds attacking you every time you walk through that area. I don’t even know what else to say about the combat, it’s really fun; Bungie is the master of fun FPS. But with the Strikes and Weekly missions, it get REALLY DAMN HARD. I wasn't expecting it to be so hard, it’s great. Even attempting the high level story missions is tricky, lower level stuff is pretty easy but with the hard modes the enemies just overwhelm you with numbers and being freaking bullet sponges.

I think a lot of people were expecting something else from this game, I think some people were expecting an expansive MMO Space-Skyrim (seriously, I think some people were expecting that?) you'll be disappointed that it’s pretty small environment-wise as of now; I don't have much of an issue with it, but a lot of other people might.
People were also expecting it to be an MMO, and it's not; funnily, the random encounters with other players reminds me of Journey, just think Journey but you shoot aliens.
But if you bought it expecting an MMO you'll be disappointed. The game is more like Diablo 3 and Borderlands. With that said; instead of relying on drops for rare loot you can grind for currency (the marks, coins, motes, glimmer is eeeeaaasy to get) and purchase armor that's JUST as good as something you'll find or win in a Strike or PVP, and I really dig it; I lost my mind killing the same boss over and over again in Borderlands hoping a gun I want would drop.
But yeah, there is grinding in this game, getting the PVP and PVE marks kind of reminds me of gathering weekly tombs in FFXIV, and it’s definitely a grind; if you aren't into the currency/mark grind you would probably hate it. Actually if you don’t like grinding I would suggest a different game, it’s fun for some weird people like me but there are people who haaaate it. For me it’s the perfect amount of grinding, it’s not too insane and the game also does not hand you everything.

Also the PVP? It’s fun, there are the regular issues nearly every PVP game has that I hate which is: I suck at it. But I actually keep going back to play it, it’s really fun and you actually get rewards if you kind of suck. I hope Bungie can fix the cheating issues though, that’s a bummer, why do people cheat with stuff like that? C’mon, why even play the game…

And finally my main issue with the game: the story is mediocre. Bungie should have spent the money on a sci-fi author rather than Paul McCartney doing a song. The lore is interesting and cool but the story was just executed badly and the writing could have been way better, especially when they have Halo to live up to story-wise (which was my favorite thing about Halo). Also, I really think the Grimoire Cards should be in game. The lore they provide is interesting and I’m not going to stop playing to go onto the internet to read them, I was reading them on my break at work haha. Games like Dishonored did an excellent job with the books throughout the game or Bioshock's audio logs with back-story and lore, that’s how you do it; the lore is part of the game, it should be inside the game in some way.
But yeah, if you were counting on Destiny to have the best plot ever, you will be pretty disappointed. Hope they can improve with the expansions.

The game does have some small issues I’m not really going to get into, there are already plenty of negative reviews, and if you don't like something about it, you're probably not going to change your mind.
But really, it’s nothing they can’t fix without additional patches and added content, I hope everyone else who’s playing with it will stick around to see what they add and improve upon, most “MMO” online games have a bumpy road at launch, a la Diablo 3 ;p.

Hope my review was helpful for someone!

Destiny is everything that I expected, and more. I'm not quite sure if I was just all the hype, but the reviews are unjustly negative. I can't help but compare it to my favorite games, such as Borderlands, Skyrim, and of course Halo. The game wows me every time I play it. In the end, don't we just play games to have fun? No, it's not perfect, but Destiny is downright fun!

Destiny, Even with all the hype I went into the game with low expectations. What I had seen while playing over 50 hours was a game I can't get enough of.

If you enjoy MMOs that had large Grinds. Destiny is for you, you'll be running a lot of the same content over and over until more is released over time/months. There's many things to do and daily/weekly challenges with good rewards.

End-game is also good, Raids being the hardest content I've yet to see in any shooter. Even on par or surpasses Borderlands difficulty.
There is a vast amount of gear and ways to build your character to fit your playstyle.

The best way to put it is, this game will take up a lot of your time if you enjoy progression of your character and gambling chances while identifying gear. The game rewards you over long times and the gear you may acquire won't be the best at times-then that one day you'll get several legendaries in a row and squeal with joy.

The game has small MMO aspects placed with an FPS with good customization.
The best thing I can say to lore seekers and people wanting a Good Story, there isn't much depth-YET. Even though on Bungie.net your grimoire cards you unlock over time do give nice chunks of interesting lore.

I highly recommend this game only if you're a fan of repetitive grinds like I am and have a good group of friends you enjoy playing games with.
Solo-players please avoid this game to prevent disappointment.

You might get a ship, new color patterns for your armor, new weapons, or new armor. Who knows? But just by playing the game you are rewarded.

In PvE you have the equivalent of a looking for group tool a la WoW. Quick, easy, strikes that ensure you get some piece of gear. You have the reputation factions to choose your armor path. Cosmetic items to dump currency into. And you have the epic Vault of Glass that just opened. A truly eye opening experience for the FPS genre. This is what Destiny is. Each expansion will have a new raid, and if they are anything like this initial offering they will be well worth the money.

All of this is wrapped carefully around an incredibly tight shooter at its base. I cannot fathom why there would be such low scores. Even if this were a multiplayer only game with no play (anyone remember Titanfall?) it should get at least a 7. With all its offering and potential it should be at a ten, but the story fell flat, really flat. But don't let that discourage you from playing one of the best FPS offerings since Halo 2.

Solid game. Would like to see more locales. Too much barren waste land. The Dink's voice direction was sub-par. Overall I am greatly enjoying this. I see it more as a great start than a finished product, typical of most MMO's (or MMO style). Can't wait to see what will come from Destiny/Bungie.

Destiny has a simple premise, you are known as a "Guardian", protecting humanity, which has been driven back by alien races, and you know stand at the last city of Earth. You choose one of three classes, Titan, Warlock, or Hunter. Next, you choose your race, Awoken, Human, or Exo. This is a pretty standard layout for an MMO but Destiny takes it to a whole new level by involving something we all love -- guns. Destiny is definitely a solid MMORPGFPS if that is what you choose to call it. It feels like "Halo" felt before, but strips away the icon of Master Chief and lets you build your own legend. It has different planets and different gamemodes, such as story missions, strikes (layered battles with oncoming waves of enemies, best done with friends and leave you with rewards), raids (like strikes but can take hours or days, much better rewards and much more in depth when it comes to tactics and organization), and of course the crucible (online multiplayer). Destiny is visually appealing, has optimal customization leaving you searching for more gear and loot, and has enemies from different backgrounds. Despite having a short story selection it has endgame options that allow you to extend your enjoyment of the game. Destiny has weaknesses as well as strengths though. Although it is a mass-mulltiplayer online game, communication is lacking as you can only voice chat within your fireteams (Emotes are your only other option). The story missions can be quite repetitive, and there is not as much personality within the characters as was seen in the Halo series. The loot reward system is flawed as well, decrypting high level engrams usually leaves you with less-than-stellar gear. Despite these issues, Destiny is a fun and engaging experience that I would recommend one at least try. Bungie will be adding more content in the future as well, so don't expect early reviews like mine to sum up the game in its entirety. Bungie has created a very expandable game that will most likely expand as time goes on. Expand

There are some repetitive gameplay elements. Escort ghost, ghost hacks computer, and then horde mode begins. I am not really worried about this as much as some people are....it reminds me very much of Diablo where you farm for gear in a story mode environment. Some have also compared it to Phantasy Star Online as well.
    _____

With my cons out of the way, let me just say that this game is fun. The fun factor trumps and can forgive the few cons that I have. This may not be the same case for everyone, but running around blowing heads off gaining loot, upgrading gear, grinding factions, doing strikes with friends, doing crucible with friends, and just exploring for the chests and dead ghosts is the most fun I have had with a game in a very very long time.

The music and sound effects in the game are great. The sound is immersive and you can hear the mobs all around you, the machines that fire their weapons. The large mobs sound large, the small mobs sound small. The snozberries taste like snozberries....it is great fun.

Some people are going to hate to just hate. In my 30 years of living I have realized there are just negative people out there who pick apart everything. If you can find something good and and enjoyable in the game and it keeps you playing then play it. Instead of finding things that make you miserable find things that make you happy in life. I believe this game haves a little of everything for everyone so....

If you are not one of the millions of people who already have bought the game and you read this write up...then I say it is worth the $60.00. And if you do get it, then I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

This game is different. Let's get that out of the way. Everyone will have an opinion of what it is and what it is not. To me, this is a FPS dungeon crawler that lacks in story but makes up for in game play and loot. Multiplayer is bare bones but yet is very fun. Some core items are missing but this game will evolve over time. Even with these items currently not in the game, I can't stop playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For all the ppl that are negative about this game you have your own right to be. I have heard the "Borderland knock off comment" the "Its story is worse the CoD or BF".

I can only say a few words this game for me is amazing.. I have roughly 3 days in game time on this and I have yet to get sick of it! Honestly I went into this with the typical MMO idea in my head to begin with. The whole grinding to get gear I expected, there are very few games that give instant gear out and hell if you want to cry about having to grind for gear then do so but please dont rag on a game because that is your biggest problem with it.

The story may not have been the "best" story out there but they are releasing more and more as time goes by it. The Events that Bungie puts out is for a reason. ^.^

For those of you who are looking for a game like CoD, BF, or any other FPS based game with a ton of pvp thats it just stick to those games. This game goes in depth with so much more then just that, by bringing in Strikes "Dungeons" and Raids in the mix and by adding the need to grind strikes or the Crucible "PvP" to raise rep to get it makes it a game to check out. THERE WILL NOT BE FREEBIES! Even when you get full Legendary/Exotic gear your grind will not be done you still have to get the mats to upgrade it.

My last and final note... If you are looking for handouts of gear this is not a game for you... however if you are looking for a game that you can get lost in for hours and have a blast finding new people to play with and just the basic MMO experience then this is definitely a game to check out.

Give it a try and if you like it Awesome! If you dont thats fine too but I urge everyone to try this game! You may find out that other people just want to hate to hate!

Good Luck and I hope to see you all ingame!!!

Playing with friends also helps, as you're always congratulating/competing with them on new gear, rare materials, or even their general character level. Your friend is a higher level than you? I guess you'll have to play more story, strikes, patrols, or crucible. Want to buy that sweet new piece of gear, but don't have the required rank? Time to grind some games in the particular game type. It is an addicting structure that truly tries to blend FPS with MMO.

Does it succeed in doing so? Not quite. MMO gamers will feel that the lack of depth isn't there to keep them participating in end-game events. Is it a balanced FPS? I would argue no, but it isn't a failure in that department either. Destiny is still too young to know if it will truly grab the attention of MMO gamers and FPS players. For now, I think casual and invested gamers will find Destiny to be a wonderful change of pace. For the hardcore genre of whatever classification? Work still needs to be done in order to merit greatness.

And thats the catch. Stray too far in the MMO game structure, casual players will be overwhelmed and generally confused. Place too much emphasis in FPS mechanics, and you'll disengage MMO gamers. And if you're pacing is too slow and unbalanced, all gamers will lose interest.

So it will be very interesting to see how Destiny holds up, even up to the holiday season. Oh, and a lot of gamers looking for a grand story will need to either dig past the in-game options that are presented, or just pass judgment on the lack of backstory. It is disheartening to see that the story wasn't fleshed out as much at it could have been.

Give this game a try. When you get bored, put it down and pick up something else (Shadows of Mordor or Diablo III, perhaps?) This game can be casual, or it can be hardcore. Don't expect to just get everything you want right out of the box.

Gamers can't just sit back and enjoy something. If you don't like the game, you don't like it. I'm fine with that. But maybe if people would stop expecting the world handed to them on a silver platter, and they took off their "critical glasses" for two seconds, they might enjoy themselves every once in a while. As for Destiny, it's not the greatest MMO or RPG or FPS, it doesn't have the most stunning graphics, the gameplay can get a bit 'grindy', etc, etc. However, at the end of the day, I enjoyed myself. That's why I pick up the controller: to have fun. And this game delivered. Expand

The story is not brilliant, but it isn't really the focus of this title. I think a story could be done well and people would like that but who knows what will come in the future. I have reached level 20 which is the max from XP gain, then your level progresses depending on the equipment you are wearing/using.

The Multiplayer PvP is really quite difficult to begin with, I would not recommend getting this game if you wont play through the missions to at least a reasonable level. Once I hit around level 12-13 I found the PvP a lot easier.

My favorite aspect of Destiny is the reputation system. If you explore The Tower (the home hub/social area) you'll find speakers of different groups/clan sort of things. Once you reach level 20 you can buy a cape to represent said group/clan, which when worn all reputation will go towards that group. This allows you to unlock and buy gear from that group which is leagues ahead of standard stuff.

There is a bounty system tied in with the reputation system. You may visit the bounty guy at The Tower and accept a number of bounties, such as '200 precision kills', 'kill this boss on this strike mission' etc. These give reputation and XP for your character.

The boss fights in Strike missions can be relatively long lasting and a little repetitive but this changes when you advance a few levels above their recommendation. Patrol missions are really great in my opinion. You fly to a planet and free roam the surface, accepting missions to do along the way. It gets you experience and reputation, it also opens up the area for further exploration without the distraction of mission objectives.

The loot system has been a talk of thousands of different opinions. I find that the amount of loot you receive, and the rarity of is perfect. It isn't a grind like others state, it also isn't a walk in the park, but it's frequent enough that you feel happy when you receive loot.

Overall I would highly recommend this game. If you enjoy loot-drop sort of games, like Borderlands for instance, I think you'll find a love for this game in no time.

The only downside would have to be its linear story-line, but the games functionality outweighs the stories importance in such a way that you're really not focused on the story-line, but more so the grind of leveling up and killing enemies all the while obtaining new gear and abilities along the way. The game really heats up around level 10, and that's when its strongpoints blossom. "Strike Missions", are similar to World of Warcraft's dungeon's experience. It really brings out the excitement due to the mysterious thought of what kind of cool armor/weapons you might pick up along the way. With that being said, the armor/weapon rating is similar to Borderlands, and WoW. White title for Basic, Green for uncommon, Blue for rare, Purple legendary, and Gold for exotic. As in WoW, can also participate in raids once you are a high enough level. The leveling system is 1-30. Once you hit level 20, and if you want to keep progressing, your level score will be based upon your gear ratings. PvP is similar to Halo, with a little CoD feel to it. Just like WoW, you can earn honor, which you can put forth towards better gear. Only downfall is PvP can be difficult, and frustrating if you are a lower level.

Just as in any game, there are its flaws. Unlike the Strike Missions, there is no queue for raiding. Its all based upon who you know, and can be a pain if you are a lone wolf type of player. Also, as I stated earlier, the repetitive missions can be dull, and null. Grinding can get old fast if you stick to the story mode, but for me. I found that doing strike missions really takes the dull edge off of it, and adds more excitement towards it.

For what I've heard, Bungie wants to turn this into a 10 year game. The game itself is in its beginning stages, but I believe if they listen to the critics, and fix what needs to be fixed, while also adding in new features, this game will really turn into something special. All in all I give this a 9/10.

Overall I give it a 9 though it has the feel of a 10 because some things do need improvement. Here is a breakdown of how I see it:
Production quality is a 10. Graphics, Music, Etc are amazing
Gameplay quality is a 10 for FPS mechanics. Better than COD or Halo
Story quality is a 5. If you need a compelling story reason to shoot the bad guy you'll be disappointed
Content quality is an 8. What is there is great, but it needs more
Additive quality is an 11 (out of 10). I've never been so addicted to a game before. I thought Skyrim was bad, this is worse. I'm sure it will cause divorces. Just one more bounty... one more weapon perk... one more daily... I've lost so much sleep playing this game.

Yes the game grinds from 20-28. Yes I've done the same missions 45 times. Yes it's a love/hate relationship. However if I stop for more than a day, I miss the stupid grind. Something magical about the formula they have.

Final thought. This game is not perfect, but it is one of the most enjoyable games I've played and it will only get better with time as they add more content and tweaks. If you read updates from the professional reviewers they all claim the game is still a "6 or 7" but they admit they can't stop playing it. That says it all.

The missions are very intense when you reach over level 15 and there's great atmosphere and the music makes it even more intense! You need to play with friends in a fire-team to get the best experience as you coordinate with each other to complete strikes, raids and missions so I do not recommend to play it on your own as it's not that fun.

The graphics are stunning and there are some breathtaking views (go to the black garden on venus!). There are always things to do from daily/weekly raids and strikes, PvP, complete bounties to upgrade your equipment.

If I had to be super-critical, I think they should make the AI spawn random rather than at fixed points.

The thing I like most is that instead of rushing out a new game every year like most other popular FPS games, Bungie instead continuously evolves the vanilla game to a point where the original game is no longer recognisable and is practically an entirely new game. Expect a long life and religious update and DLC schedule to keep this game a heavy hitter a long time after its original release. First time I have ever played a FPS on a daily basis for a year without getting bored due to the amazing DLC. The only shortfall is that the DLC is rather expensive however you are getting much more than just a few swerve map packs since each DLC adds an entirely new section to the game, on par with games like World of Warcraft. This is a game where you will need friends to enjoy the best features of the game so if you only ever play solo it is difficult to really see what this game has to offer since playing raids with randoms may be a little shakey. This game has made me several friends from opposite sides of the globe that I know play with daily. My all time game of the year. Expand

This game is one of the highest quality FPS games I have ever played. The multiplayer matches are great and could be enough to keep you having all the fun you need. Activision succeeds in making this game comparable to the Call of Duty series in quality of multiplayer online PvP.

The gameplay mechanics and graphics are great! I never felt wonky or that I didn't have total control of what actions I wanted my character to do. Feels very smooth and is just a seamless shooter of the quality of any of the Halo games.

The story is the major issue. There isn't one, at least not one that's very accessible. Grimoire is where the story is unlocked, but for the normal person you won't want to go read dozens of cards to see more about the story, but there seems to be a rich world, very much so hidden.

The MMO portion also is something to get by. If you don't mind having to pay for DLC every few months in order to stay up to date with the game then this won't bother you at all, but if you don't keep up, or try to jump in late, then this will feel overwhelming.

The game has gone through many changes and upgrades, and seems to be improving in the places it was failing, but overall this is an amazing game.

FFIV is a better MMO, Borderlines a better Co-Op game, and they're countless better SP and competitive MP FPS games out there. It feels as if Bungie was completely insecure in everything except the graphics and Halo-esq gameplay.

Being Bungie I expected an epic story but it's not. It's very bland with horrible voice acting. Word of advice to devs thinking of using very well-known actors with iconic TV/movie characters as voice actors in games is a good idea. It's not. When trying to create a new character don't use someone who constantly reminds me of someone else. All I hear is a completely bored Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister). (Same goes for you MGS - it sounds like the actors try and take the character seriously...but they can't)

Destiny tries to be several games in one but In the end Destiny is a pretty bad MMO, a horrible Single Player experience due to the bland story, level design and lack of set pieces or otherwise inspired graphics, and an average co-op game. Also, competitive MP can be had better elsewhere.

It tries to be the jack of all trades and excels at none. And given the content, level design, and scope of the game it hard to imagine that the majority of the 500 million budget went towards making the game and not to marketing.

The way I see it Destiny sells you 4 games for $70 (in Canada), but MMO's are free, the SP isn't worth anything, the CO-OP and Competitive MP are probably worth $29.99 each but neither game can compete with their better peers in each respective genre. All I picture when I play this game is that meme with the dog in a lab coat and glasses with the caption, "I have no idea what I'm doing", especially in terms of the the MMO and story elements.. That comes across here. They would have been better off making a Borderlands clone but with a great story... This game was not made with confidence, gameplay aside.

If your playing alone don't even bother with this game and don't expect to make any friends as it's impossible to communicate with people. If you have TWO buddies it can be fun, but guaranteed someone is going to get bored with the repetitive nature and stop playing

The raids are unforgettable, the strike playlist with rotating modifiers are beyond enjoyable and the weapon / ability sandbox tuning that was left the way it was remains close to perfect.

The only faults that this game has is the unfortunate state that PvP was left in with how ammo economy functions. But if you're looking for a solely PvE game, then this one is a perfect 10/10 ignoring the issues plaguing PvP.

Destiny 2 has improved drastically on a lot of issues that Destiny 1 had, but it still fails to be as fun and replayable as Destiny 1 once was. One of my favorite games of all time.

But as I began to progress and level up(I started to really enjoy the game when i got around level 8), i began to care about my items and leveling and began jumping into squads with a couple of friends and became hooked. I will admit that the game can feel repetitive at times (the missions are basically, go here, kill them, kill boss, hold off enemies, repeat) but the controls, the ambiance, and the fun with friends is just so much so that it keeps me coming back for more. I give this game a solid 8. But let me say that I completely understand both sides here: those who praise and those who hate Destiny. The center of the issue - as usual - is the hype machine that gets us excited for years and years, with all the trailers, marketing stunts, teasers etc. And Destiny is no exception.

But, the real question is: does this make it a BAD game? No, no way, not

But, the real question is: does this make it a BAD game? No, no way, not at all. Destiny is a fantastic game if you are completely aware of what it's all about. If you expect it to be a Mass Effect esque adventure, forget it. If you expect it to be a RPG-MMOish adventure, forget it. Even if you expect it to be the ultimate 1st person shooter game, forget it. Destiny is a sci-fi, action game that use many tried and successful mechanics to its advantage.

Once you get the point there's no way you won't appreciate it for what it is. A solid game, one with which you'll have a great time alone or with friends (especially with friends). The graphics and sound are excellent, so is the gameplay. The loot-system will get you hooked and, although Destiny has a short (and uninspired story), the content is worth grinding, as it will be a way to get better gear. On that note, I don't understand why people are complaining about grinding; seriously, name one game (with a loot based system) that we are not forced to grind. I'll be happy to know.

So in my honest opinion, it's all about the fun. Pick a class (Titan, Warlock or Hunter - similar, with specific perks) and dive in this interplanetary adventure. You'll shoot baddies, get cool looking gear and weapons and have a great time with your friends. I've been playing this for 2 weeks now, have capped Hunter's both subclasses (gunslinger and battledancer) and, honestly? I can't put it down.

Visually, this is a stunner, more so than anything I have currently played outside of the PC world.

    The soundtrack is beautiful.

The story definitely felt incomplete, which is saddening because I only became interested in it part way through.

The Strikes are fun and the boss fights are as any boss fight is, a challenge the first time through.

Otherwise you're hitting standard MMO fare with daily missions, bounties, daily/weekly heroics, events, rep farming and pvp.

Is it the second coming of gaming? No, there isn't a game out there that can do that. It does stand on its own two feet as a great game to play. For those of you who decide on whether or not to play a game on other peoples opinions, you're selling yourself short, form your own opinion on it. Make a character on a friends account and test the waters.

The only game in the world that deserves a 3 or lower was flappy bird, anything else is filled with personal butthurt.

Since its official reveal in 2013, Destiny has been hyped to the heavens. So does it deliver? In short, yes. Destiny promised fans a bunch of things. A first person shooter, open world RPG with MMO elements. While they are all present in the game, they may not be as in depth as they first appeared.

Destiny is a great shooter. Its mechanics are tight, fast, and completely sound. But the gun depth isn't there. While there are many guns, they are all just variants of a few base models. Other than that, they change color and damage stats. What initially looks like a deep customizable gun-play experience, ends up being a mediocre one.

We also get RPG elements. There are three classes, each with a sub class. But you quickly learn that to earn your abilities, you just go through the paces. There are no real consequences or perks to choosing one ability over the other. The loot system is awesome as always. You get guns and armor fairly often. More times than not having better stats than the ones equipped. The game gives you just enough.

Then you have your MMO like elements. The Tower would be the starting point, it is your central hub for pretty much everything. You can go to different vendors that sell certain things. Look at mail, interact with many other people, and have access to your safe. It's all very similar to an MMO. Then you have missions of the day/week, strike missions, and random events that start up. The thing most fun are the random events, but they are to far apart and happen very rarely. Bungie will be adding raids to the mix, which should be fun.

Those were very light summaries of the full experience along with my thoughts. Destiny is in not way an excellent game. It barely qualifies as great. But you can't help to be immersed in the game. The story is really non-existent, which is very disappointing, when it was presented as a huge part of the game. It's multiplayer is fun, but has not showed anything to make me want to keep playing. But it's Destiny's core gameplay that keeps me interested. What starts as an hour playthrough, it ends up being four hours. I just need that next upgrade for my armor, or get that better gun. You can truly lose yourself in this game and it's a shame that some people are going to miss out because they don't want to except a great game. They would rather be the cool person and claim Destiny is overhyped and doesn't deliver. GET OVER YOURSELF. Bungie never promised anything that's not in the full game or is coming to the full game.

Bungie never said this was a mmorpg. They clearly stated that it was an "online shared shooter." Some of the disappointment is due to people thinking it was something that it was never supposed to be. I am enjoying the game so far. Played in alpha and beta so I knew what to expect. In my mind, it is closer to FPS like battlefield. It is not meant to be a MMO.

Game has not felt grindy or repetitive to me. But I understand why some people are stating that. Besides the story mode, Bungie does not lead you anywhere. There are whole areas that I still have not explored on Earth. I wanted to explore the moon so I decided to complete story, patrol and strike on the earth. However, I saw many areas further back with no story indicator or even patrols. I will go back there. But wonder how many people did not even notice and just assumed that the story, patrol and strike areas were the only ones.
Game has many different modes even for solo players. I have not done competitive multiplayer in the live game yet - just during beta. I am not big into competitive mp so will not rate it based on that.

Taking off points for the following:
1 - Story is average. Bungie could have done better. But there is decent story. And if you are into fantasizing about going into space, the game will fulfill that need. We go to the moon!!!!
2 - Poor explanation of things. I like discovering things but there could have been better assistance in game like Help or FAQ. Bungie has most of the key information on its website. Same with story details. There is a lot of info but on the website. Things like lore, reputation progress, help should have been in the game.

I am looking forward to playing it. Had to force myself to stop so I could get some real life things done today lol. Also, I am now considering buying the expansion pass. Not sure how much content there is for pure soloist but so far it feels like I am getting my money's worth. For me, it always comes down to is the game fun. Destiny is definitely fun for me.

I have never been a huge fan of RPGs, so while I understand why people are disappointed by the lack of dialogue in the game, it doesn't really bother me. Keep in mind that it's a FPS first, MMORPG second. With that said, if you like FPS games, then this is a solid buy. As a new IP though, Destiny needs to really make itself stand out and I'm not sure if it does just yet. I could definitely see people getting bored after a month or so, and the servers going stale similar to what happened with Titanfall. The game would have definitely been a 9 in my book had there been more of a story as well, as the game pretty much feels like halo (3 factions, one that is far more "sentient" and the other that is comparable to the flood in Halo) with even less story.

TL;DR - It's an ok game that was definitely over-hyped, doesn't do anything better than similar games like Borderlands, and only time will tell if it can really keep everyone's attention for more than a few weeks, let alone spawn a franchise.

Graphically this is next gen, great looking textures and animations, although, we could have had more variety with enemies, enemy AI is also very impression,(ie) they will flank, take cover when necessary. Combat feel very tight as you would expect from Bungie.

The RPG elements are just basic at best (So Far) Guns don't offer that awe effect when they shoot. Destiny is a great game, but it might not be the game you were hoping for. It's a mix between RPG and shooter elements, but it is definitely more shooter than RPG though. Don't go into the game expecting an RPG.

In terms of content the game has plenty. The single player will take about 20 hours to complete, and that is not considering the time spent in other mission types. Compared to

In terms of content the game has plenty. The single player will take about 20 hours to complete, and that is not considering the time spent in other mission types. Compared to other shooters on the market today that is a ton. The story is forgettable, but each mission is well crafted and fun.

The real meat of the game is in playing strike missions. These missions pit you against tough bosses and are challenging and fun. Each take 30-60 minutes and give you great gear for playing. Multiplayer is a lot of fun. There are several different modes, and all the mechanics from the single player carry over to the multiplayer. It makes for a very connected experience between both single and multiplayer.

Anyway, it's a good game. If you enjoy FPS you'll probably enjoy this game as well. I'm going to give it an 8/10 because of the disappointing story and somewhat empty feeling tower, but overall I think the game is quite fun and well worth playing.

Destiny had a lot of potential. A bland, dumb, and confusing story, zero character development, and an abrupt ending to the main campaign held this game back. If it wasn’t for the beautifully crafted world, fun co-op missions, and highly addictive gameplay, I would have gave Destiny a much lower score. Solid pve gameplay, addictive loot-system and fun pvp. Nice graphics, sound and superb music. Needs in-game Grimoire-card viewer and raid matchmaking.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
