Overall I think this game is really good! There's room for improvement, but this game has had me hooked since release. The coop is brilliant and the multiplayer is so addictive. Don't see why this games been down voted so much, I think it's brilliant

Very fun game, a lot of loot that you have to work for. but it is well worth it to trick out you Guardian. I hate how so many people bash the game it is very original with some of the good things taken from other games. Sure it was a bit over hyped but still well worth it.

Overall this I think Hybrid FPS/MMO approach works.I found The multiplayer / co-op worked Seamless.
To top it all off Halo-style combat what more could you ask for in a game.Bungie says they have a 10 year plan for this game count me in.

I created an account on this website just to defend this game from all the trolls.

    - Great Atmosphere
    - Refreshing
    - Amazing Gameplay
    - Good pvp/pve balance
    - Challenging end game
    - Lots of updates to come (yes for me this is positive)

only one problem, ingame communication. I would have put a 8/10 because of this.

Ive read some of the positives and negatives, not all obviously but enough to get an impression of why people are angry/disappointed with the game and giving it zeros. I do see their point of views and I don't intend to argue against that as that's been their experience with the game. I know what its like to be so hyped up over the release of something expecting it to be the greatest thing ever only for that very hype to lead to inevitably be and almost predictably disappointed.

I must say I never really bought into that hype or got excited about it. My excitement started with playing the beta. The beta drew me in and left me wanting more. The whole concept of the story and my role in it was awesome to me. The full release hasn't disappointed me either and with more play I'm getting more hooked on it. My only question mark was would I enjoy the multiplayer and so far to my surprise I have. The things people do not like about the multiplayer are actually the things I have liked about it so far. I like that there's no chat. In other games that puts me off playing it and I love the fast pace and small maps. The MMO and story side of things I also like. I get that its probably over simplified for some gamers but it hits the sweet spot for me. There's enough there to keep me interested without it being overwhelming and complicated. It is the MMO for console gamers, simple and accessible with controllable chat, which imo is a wise move. Perhaps they could have made it optional, say in the settings but reading their reasons for it I happen to agree with them on not including it. Again not taking away from others opinions I get that they feel let down and disappointed in this game, just my opinion and experience with the game has been different. I have not been so keen to play a game I own since forza 5, which was another game heavily criticised for things that I actually thought made it a more enjoyable game for me. This is refreshing as I was coming off the disappointment of titanfall and watchdogs. Anyway gaming and the games we enjoy is a personal thing and the reasons I really enjoy a game will vary from others reasons. The point being don't let others opinions put you off trying this or any other game as you may miss out on something you will really enjoy.

As for a rating I'm giving it a 10 because for me its the most enjoyable game I've played since forza5 and AC Black Flag. All these were games I looked forward to playing and for me thats the most important thing. That can't be said for Titanfall and Watchdogs. They were good games but just missing that something to excite and motivate me to want to play.

I'll explain. The bosses are tough but they're fair. They're bullet-soaks but that makes sense being you have 3 members in your squad fighting a single guy (albeit there are always other enemies lurking in the tunnels waiting to strike mostly at the most infuriating moments). But that's why it's so much fun!
Another aspect of Destiny that I'm thoroughly enjoying is the weapon and armor, collecting, progressing, and shading. The armor is primo-cool, and the weapons all handle differently, have a weight that you feel through the controller, and have a tactical nature as well (certain weapons fair better in certain circumstances).
The story is actually pretty great too, once you take the time to delve into the lore. Another dark-souls like attribute. Combined with the fantastic musical score and awe-inspiring environments (the backdrops are 'mwah'). There's oft a thunking sound in my room deriving from my jaw audibly hitting the floor.
I created an account just to write a review for this game and bequeath unto it the respect and fandom that it so earnestly and rightfully deserves. I repeat, go and buy this game now, it's worth every Lincoln.

Not ony is this the most visually impressive piece of work I've ever seen on a console (it finally feels like the next-gen is here), the gameplay is super smooth and tight. I don't think players realize that the different player classes all control slightly differently and come with different abilities, which makes this type of game incredbily refreshing. I have had no issues with framrate or playing online with my friends. I almost only use the hand cannon, sniper, and melee blade and have been having a blast! How can anyone complain about the boss battles being too long??? They require some intelligence and skill, but yes-they aren't over in a matter of a couple minutes. I think the real problem here, is that the fanboys of games like COD are really not doing so well with this type of game. I have several friends who are twitch fanatics with COD and clean up the maps. When playing them in this game however, I can smoke most of them. I believe that is where many of the lower scores are coming from. Sure there are one or two missions that get a little tedious, but there are more than enough things to do in this game (without the expansions) to keep one busy. And please! It's not like GTA V wasn't a little repititive. I just cannot fathom how this game can score less than a 9 unless those giving it lower scores are either jaded COD fanboys or they are critics that only spent 10 minutes playing it-which usually seems to be the case with uneducated reviewers. People are calling it "boring and repetitive like any other fps" - What? I suppose if you consider all other FPS's boring and repetitive then of course this one is too.

    Pros:
    Extremely tight controls/gameplay
    Absolutely beautiful on next-gen
    Fantastic sound track
So much polish, even the menus are something to marvel

    Cons:
    Not enough PvP mode variation
Lacks compelling social features for a game oriented toward longevity
Probably should come with first expansion or two for free due to some lack of endgame content

I had assumed that this games was an MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online), however the lack of user created content proves this to be untrue.

My second major issue is the use of Peter Dinklage as the voice actor of your robotic companion. Not only is this an insult to those who suffer from dwarfism, but it is also an insult to anyone who happens to enjoy the show Game of Thrones, in which Mr. Dinklage plays a major role in as Tyrion Lannister. Are we to believe that Tyrion Lannister's voice is used for a robot in the future? Not to mention that Game of Thrones is not even set on Earth, so how could his voice be there? It does not make sense.

I am deeply disappointed with this game.

This game is not perfect, but neither is any other game... so why the perfect score?

I haven't enjoyed a game this much since Mass Effect (1). ME was the reason I got a 360, Destiny was the reason I got a PS4, and I have to say I am entirely thrilled with my choice and confident that Destiny will provide me more hours of satisifed entertainment than the ME trilogy... which is saying something.

I'm making these recommendations as someone who has finished the story line, broken above the soft level cap, and soaked considerable hours into most hours of Destiny... mostly PVE, with limited PVP, and no Raid yet as it's not yet available, come one level 25!

Here's why, if you're like me, you'll love Destiny:

    1) Great new world: Call it mythic sci-fi, call it space exploration call it a living world, call it whatever you like, bottom line it's an intriguing place to spend time, you're gonna wonder what's around the next corner, you're going to wonder what that spin-metal is for, you're going to want to come back and explore more.

    2) Fun to play: solid mechanics, the weapons feel different, things are balanced, fantastic music, great sound effects, diverse encounters / game types to experience with varying difficulty and/or player number requirements. Bungie marketers talk about something to do, catering to any mood, and from my solid days with the game, I agree!

    3) You actually play with your friends: lots of people dissed the social setup for this game but I dig it. I spend more time catching up with my gamer friends than I have in the years previous. This game is first for me from Raven Shield and Guild Wars 1 in terms of number of hours spent playing with friends. Because it's seamless, because you can jump in and out of activities and join up half way through, because the game play diversity means there's always some old buddies, who've tended to be just names in your PSN list, actually in world doing stuff... And you can join up with them and catch up and that's awesome!

    4) You're character follows you: yep more stuff from the marketing material. I put a bunch of hours into ME3 MP just to unlock the best end game scenario, but having it be an add on, separate character experience made it non-core, aka a chore. Building up your character getting Xp and gear and cash is going to be a little addictive. Your always building up your Guardian no matter your mood.

    5) End Game: there's some crazy challenging undertakings that are going to tempt you into, maxing out Guardian and gear and organizing a group to go take it on. You will get sick of admiring your fancy gear in the companion app and you're going to need to make something of it - either in a Raid or the Iron Banner or Daily or Weekly Challenge and the punishment will keep you coming back for more.

Don't believe the negative reviews - this game is everything I hoped it would be and more... that said... yes I'm looking happily forward to the December expansion.

I think some miss the scope of the game and that we will be getting more story missions and get to keep learning more. I am very excited about this plan and look forward to new missions. The bosses are a blast to fight and losing is just as much fun as winning. My friends and I really liked the challenge on Earth in the Devils Lair that took us 6-7 attempts to beat. We changed our weapons and strategy and tried again until we found that balance that took us to victory. The best part of Destiny is multiplayer PvP. I have played several matches and as I become more powerful these matches are increasingly much more fun. The game play is amazingly smooth and I am surprised by the lack of glitches and issues. I think in this age we expect to have a new game with problems and bugs that need to be fixed in the first few months. How refreshing is it to play Destiny that works almost flawlessly. I cannot express my surprise at how well Destiny is crafted. I did not have this preordered and after the Beta, it became a must have. Now to start properly. Destiny is the first game to come out on "next gen consoles" that I have actually had fun playing. Unlike Call of Duty it isn't a same old same old repetitive shooter, and unlike BF4 it isn't a buggy mess, and unlike all of the day one exclusive titles it isn't boring, empty and rushed. Destiny delivers almost flawless game play mechanics with a near to seamless open solar system experience. The gun play is fun, weight and rewarding. The movement and skills make you feel like a complete and utter badass without making you overpowered (believe me on that one, this game can get pretty damn hard at some points). The main story quests are "meh", however what many people writing the lower reviews based on story fail to realise, is that the game is open world for a reason. You aren't meant to just speed run the quests. You are meant to explore, to build an understanding of the world around you. To join other online players and fight the "fallen" and learn their story along the way. Strike missions offer a great experience rewarding teamwork as well as individual skill. Then there is the loot and RPG like elements that make the game feel more personal. You build your guardian from the ground up. Starting as a level 1 noob of planet earth, and then finishing at level 20. However the journey doesn't end at level 20, it kind of begins...but I won't give too much away.

    Summary:
    "Good"
    ____
Solid game-play experience, great lore, lots of missions, rewards skill and teamwork, fun, play it how you want, no bugs :D, takes the best bits from games such as Halo, Borderlands and Call of Duty and then adds more (Which isn't a bad thing, just because it bears similarities to other games doesn't mean it copied them. I'm actually enjoying it more than Borderlands and CoD...Not sure about Halo yet, but it is very very close).

    "Meh"
    ___
30fps (Yes this is the big one. Many PC elitists (you know the ones... "PC Master Race" and all) are focusing on this point. They say they can feel a difference which "damages game-play" and makes it "harder" to aim...but surely giving the game difficulty isn't bad. Gamers now days expect to have their hand held in modern FPS games, but Destiny says "NO". Use your brain, learn to aim. And in all honesty, coming from a 120fps gaming rig to my PS4, I can't really feel too much of a difference. There is also no visual damage. The game is beautiful.)

    "Bad"
    ___
Repetitive missions at the moment (the game is new and more missions are still being added), lack of text chat in the tower, currency which can be confusing at times.

Focusing on what was wrong with game early on, was a lot to do with my expectations of what kind of game it would be. Massive hype can have that effect, such I suppose is human nature.
The more I play it the more impressive it becomes, a vast alien landscape in which endless battles occur and non of my foes are humans. It's a utopia for war , where an obsession with guns can be innocent and fine.

Bungie has created a FPS that allows you to create their own game. Destiny is a game that introduces a new style of FPS that lets you decided the skill or path you want to take. This game lays the groundwork for video games in the next ten years. Even in its flaws (endless tunnels and repetitive characters) Destiny's game play is additive.

Destiny isn't for everyone, I feel that's clear to see given the mixed reviews. Even in spite of all of the positive reviews, Bungie can not possibly hope to cater to everyone even though they have clearly tried with Destiny. That's the games only real downfall; they have a little something for everyone which I feel is something to be excited about. I love this game and I faith that Destiny will deliver what all the hype promised. Its a living world, give it time to grow guys. Much like the majority of cry babies out there that are still waiting for their balls to drop, Destiny still has some growing to do. So yeah... get over it, stop whining over the fact that you wish you had spent mommy's and daddy's money on something else.

My absolute favorite thing right now are the Patrol missions. This free-roam game mode is exactly what I would want in a FPS. Just go in and mindlessly roam around grabbing little quests and hunting down groups of monsters. You can go for as long or as short a time as you want. It's simply fun. If this is grinding to you, you are playing the wrong game.

I probably would give this one a 9, but I'm bumping it up to a 10 to combat the unnecessary hate.

Absolutely fantastic game in so many areas. Story feels shallow at first but allows for lots of speculation, especially with the depth of the grimoire cards you unlock. Destiny Ratings
    Graphics - 10: Sound - 10: Controls - 10: Fun Factor - 10: Replay Value - 10:

Seriously, the only category one could really argue against would be Fun Factor. Because just like beauty, it is in the eyes of the beholder.

My ratings, I feel are the core fundamentals of all games. Fun factor to me consists of many things, like if you like the story the that's being told etc. You might ask why would a reviewer not have "Story" as a rating. Well, what if there is no story? Like in a game like Tetris or Candy Crush?

Destiny hits on exactly what it intended on. Making an awesome & fun: online, Co-Op, MMO, Shooter. Destiny manages to bring console players together like never before. My friends list has grown exponentially since the launch of the full version of the game. I met a handful of “Guardians” in line while waiting to grab my copy of Destiny. And there it was…, I added a few new guardians to my friends list and then it happened. We started playing, exploring, and leveling up together. This is what hooked it for me. We started talking about our gear, where to find dead ghosts, showing each other where gold chests were, teaching each other new tricks and tactics, explaining how light works, talking about favorite TV shows, chatting about new movies, what new games we want…, and then it hit me….Destiny brings the social aspect of gaming to life like I’ve never experienced before. And, I’ve played other online games with friends before…., but this one is different. You can definitely play it solo, but it’s clearly meant to play with others. I can’t help but chuckle at the reviewers that complain about replaying levels. The experience of playing Earth when first starting your adventure is completely different when you’re a level 20+ with badass guns and gear. You instantly get a sense of.., well, feeling like you’re Billy Bad @ss! And it’s so self-rewarding, because you can clearly remember how difficult it was the first time you attacked that particular level vs. how you are owning fools after leveling up.

I could go on and on and on…., and I really am just scratching the surface with everything you can do, and everything I could write/review about. Oh, and Bungie is updating stuff (levels, missions, tweaks, gear, etc.) daily/weekly/monthly..., expansion packs…,

If you’re looking for a real review from a real game player, take mine. This game is really awesome, and if you take a deep dive into the world of Destiny, you won’t be disappointed.

    Good Luck Guardians!

Start reading the grimoires if you think the story and lore of the game is condensed, then you'll understand how well worked it is. Reviewers cannot review correctly Destiny within a week, it is meant to be evolving all the time, and try leveling up your characters above level 20 and experiencing the real game, it all changes then. I don't have a personal gain for bungie's success on this game other than that I wouldn't like gamers not to log into the game and make it grow in to obscurity. For me the only reason for this game not to have good reviews is that the people that actually like the game couldn't find the time to write anything good about it because they are playing it like crazy. I'm thinking of following Destiny on the long run. Expand

I guess, especially for a noob like me. I don't have a lot of time to play Destiny right now, so I don't know about the length of the story or how objectives might repeat, but it is a FPS, so I guess I'll be shooting a lot and I don't really mind that. Because it feels great to me.

I am also very curious, what Bungie will deliver over the next years to keep Destiny alive and interesting. I guess, they deliberately left enough space, to improve upon, so let's see.

This game is not "over" when you finished the last story mission, any more than a game like World of Warcraft is over when you finish the quest line.

You may not consider this an MMO, but it is, and the main calling card of any MMO is something called end-game. I would argue that the "questing" portion of any MMO-type game is a very small portion of the total game's value.

If you have no idea what the concept of end-game is, or if that doesn't appeal to you, then go elsewhere and play another game. Judge this game for what it is, and stop giving it terrible scores because it's not the game you want it to be. Where else would that be appropriate? "Madden SUCKS because games only last 15 minutes!!! What? Yeah, I know there are a dozen other game modes to play that will give me a hundred hours of game time, but I want to complain about this part of the game!!!"

    Grow up.

My reason for saying this is due to the fact that most negative reviews game out within the first 24 hours using only the content that had been released to help players level and gear for the games future which involves raids and other dungeons and tons of endgame content that Bungie has promised will be mindblowing... Vault of Glass has already proven that they weren't kidding the raid is insanely difficult and involves mechanics that remind me of my days raiding in WoW... This game has rekindled that love for MMO's I once had and given me the opportunity to start fresh and try to keep with the pack and not play a constant game of catch up. Familiar controls, gorgeous artwork, great potential, fun character classes that don't feel like any one has a advantage over the other, proof that raids won't be simple as **** and that completing even the first part of vault of glass felt amazingly rewarding to complete, and so many more things. The biggest key to enjoying Destiny is approaching with an open mind and understanding what you want out of an MMORPG. Bungie did their best to cater to the softcore players as well as the hardcore raiders and they did a good job and anyone who wanted to get a taste of raiding in the first few weeks was dropped as a baby... The idiotic comments on here bashing Destiny before it is even off the ground are so frustrating I can barely put together a comment that doesn't consist of derogatory remarks towards all the moronic commenters who's reviews are going to potentially lose Bungie 2.5million in money that should be going towards developing more future content.... People say there is no content and it's too repetitive... Well the way i see it, every time i log in i never know where to go and what to do, there's too much choice, i mean, do i do PVP Crucible? Shall i do strikes? Shall i just go farming? How about the story missions?? just don't know... i'm lvl 24 and haven't even finished the story mode yet... I get the style/format of the game is literally shoot everything in sight, but isn't that awesome FUN if the engine for it and the programming is spot on and rewarding? Isn't that pretty much what you're meant to do if you play CoD, Halo, BF and pretty much every other FPS shooter out there that is good?

On top of all you already get with the game, graphics are incredible, there's like 5 or 6 or 7 different alien races spread across Earth/Moon/Venus/Mars which are huge maps with caves/ships/buildings etc etc that you can explore for endless hours and with constant baddies to kill, looting chests to open and materials to find and farm... An insane amount of guns/armour/ships/ and other pointless customisable options like symbols and capes/bonds etc... A pretty solid levelling/upgrade system which is quite rewarding and interesting, 3x different character classes all customisable and each with their own special abilities... My god the list is endless... Bungie have also been loading daily challenges, weekly challenges, Raids, Bounties to complete (and get XP and Loot) and there's a lot more to come as well... It is UTTERLY INSANE for people to be saying there is no content and it's "too repetitive"... Even after all this, i still can't help but feel the whole thing is still just a huge platform with incredible expansion potential...

IMHO, people just do not understand the game and its concept... It's been 10 days since it's been out and it seemed no one gave it a chance and were too quick to judge... Again, the way i see it, you need to spend 15 to 25 hrs playing it to even start getting and understanding the game, problem is, i saw 0 score reviews 1 day after the game was out, that is ridiculous...

For me, this is probably the best game i've ever played... Actually... IT IS the best game i've ever played and will be playing it for a long time... It's getting more and more interesting and challenging as i've progressed...

I truly don't get why there's so much negativity and criticism towards this game, it's all just a bit strange to me...

    10/10 = Amazing Game!

All of these negative reviews that you may read are about the reviewers disappointment that their expectations weren't reached. I have read more gripes about the content or lack thereof than I can remember but as you know gamers are entitled whiners and it is virtually impossible to please them. So in a nutshell this is why you should play this game: To sum it up best it is a perfect blend of Diablo 2 and Halo 2, The game play is second to none, the story is not the best but its not bad its actually pretty good if you give it a chance, lots of care went into the detail for weapons armor etc, its a truly refreshing take on a genre that's gotten stale with yearly releases of the same couple of games, no its not as big as some of these mmos out here but its very large still, and on the content end I have no clue how you can say there is no content when most shooters have nothing to offer aside from a mediocre story and the rest of the game is about competitive multiplayer while this game offers stellar competitive multiplayer that when its all said and done will have more layers and more things to do then nearly any other shooter, the story is the best ive played on a shooter since HALO and there is at least 15 hours of gameplay there, strikes are amazing, Raids are made for the true gamer and I cant speak high enough about them even with the lack of matchmaking, daily and weekly things to do, and even exploration mode with random encounters like alot of the MMOs out today all of this being done by a company who regularly updates and uses very well timed DLCs. I say if this game cant please you as a gamer, you aren't a real gamer Expand

Regardless of your feelings for Destiny specifically, I would urge you to support gaming companies like Bungie and Activision who take huge financial risks to take on projects like this, on a scope never before seen, in hopes that they can give gamer's something new and amazing. Even if you happen to think they swung and missed on a certain game. Companies like EA have become borderline criminal in the way they cost cut and strip down games and servers while using misleading marketing and hype to swindle that next $70 from you. Reward the guys who take the chance, and stop giving your money to the guys who shovel you the bare minimum and spoon feed you micro transactions.

The social aspect is great as well, NOTHING compares to beating The Vault of Glass with a team of your best friends, or getting a Crucible skirmish team together. Iron Banner offers some MLG level intensity to it's fast paced multiplayer and the story present interweaves well between the other aspects of the game. Public Events are fun when patrolling the planets and grinding for gear is on par with Path of Exile in terms of addictiveness. Well done Bungie. Forget the trolls. Expand

Seriously turning into a solid game, I've clocked in hours well over most people that have done reviews, been through the raid many times and have had fun all the way through, the missions can be repetitive but that is what this game is, exact same as playing a Call of Duty map over and over (Nuketown 24/7 please) but it does combat extremely well, the gunplay is amazing, the differentSeriously turning into a solid game, I've clocked in hours well over most people that have done reviews, been through the raid many times and have had fun all the way through, the missions can be repetitive but that is what this game is, exact same as playing a Call of Duty map over and over (Nuketown 24/7 please) but it does combat extremely well, the gunplay is amazing, the different subclasses and their roles are well done and the raid and higher strikes (Nightfall namely) are very challenging, and thus fun. Easily a top tier game, many reviews are negative because of little play time or pre-patch written, Bungie is now listening to the community, making updates and overall improving the experience not to mention that the graphics are amazing, I definitely recommend this title. People were expecting this to be the best game ever made. The problem is they were wrong to think that was possible with such an early next gen release. It is however a very good game which I want to go back and play, with fantastic graphics, shooting mechanics and lots to do.

The easiest way I've found to describe this game to friends is it is game play of COD and Diablo with visuals from Halo. The game it self is beautiful. Big maps to explore, plethora of weapons and armor to collect, variety of enemies(some with really good AI) and most importantly really fun and addicting. It doesn't do everything perfectly but it does everything very well. Just make sure you give the game a chance it is not something that can be experienced in one short gameplay experience, it is all about depth. Expand

This is the best game I have played for quite a long time. The story is great. The graphics are amazing. I love the characters. I am really enjoying everything this game has to offer. I am addicted to the crucible but enjoy doing strike and story missions too.

If you have somewhat realistic expectations you will see that Bungie has done something truly amazing with destiny. They have also laid a very solid foundation to expand and improve the game. For anyone debating on buying due to bad reviews, In my honest opinion, this game is 100% worth it.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
