I loved it. Perhaps because i didn't buy any Cod that was released.
I think that this score are not fair.

but i think that they should change the graphics engine for the next game
because this engine has been since the first MW

Just Black Ops and now MW3. I am a firm believer that their new stat tracking (now COD Elite) and theater mode is causing the lag. The data is constantly uploading, even during the game, causing lag and ruining the game. They could have easily gone to a slightly longer intermission and uploaded everything at that time. The PS3 Warhawk, which came out in 2007, records tons of obscure statistics all game long and they are uploaded after the match, during intermission.

The maps are very bad. Too small, someone always behind you. Its no fun to do things right and get shot in the back anyway.

I was hoping for MW2 connection and hit detection, as that was Black Ops biggest problems. I was looking forward to a more balanced version of MW2 and what we got was a mix of MW2 and BLOPs. Heavy on the bad connection. So I am done with the COD franchise. You just lost a guy that purchased every Call of Duty game ever, every map / expansion pack ever. You can shove "Iron Wolf" up your ass Mr. K. I hope Activision goes out of business. Selling junk like this...you should be ashamed. The reason your Metacritic score is so low isn't suspicious. It's because your game sucks.

A lot of negative reviewers are stating this is exactly the same as MW2, and in all honesty, I agree with them. It does make me wonder what the developers have spent the last 2 years doing as the graphics, models and guns are all identical to last time.
However, saying that, it is still MW and if you liked playing the 1st and 2nd installment then this will be just the same.

To give a score of 0 to this because of the similarity to previous incarnations is childish to say the least. It is MW, if you liked 2 then you'll like this, simple. It is still a great game, easy to pick up and play, the new maps are very much in favour of the running around like a headless chicken variety, so tactically, your options are very limited, but as a way to waste an hour or so with some mindless carnage, it certainly delivers.
And it is better than BF3...unfortunately.

The game is awesome. The campaign is unbelievable and the new multiplayer is a great new twist. Most of these bad reviews are coming from people that don't even enjoy the CoD franchise. If you loved MW2, get this game. The reason there are so many bad user reviews is because the true fans are too busy playing it right now.

If you buy a game because of hype you shouldn't be playing games. plus, my feeling is that most people that sit down to write a review is to bash it. from the looks of it hundreds of thousands of people enjoy the game judging by how many people were online last night. as for the campaign, if you buy a multi-player FPS for the campaign im sorry. by now you must know that these developers are more focused on the online play cause that's were the money is. The game is excellent, a campaign frantic and addictive multiplayer even to say who enjoyed the previous series, they will surely enjoy MW3. The only thing that sin is the graphics, they could have built a new engine for the game, just will not earn top marks for this reason but the game itself will remain a reference for the quality that the game offers.

A 2.3 average rating is a joke. This is much of the same with better balanced gameplay. Cod is renowned for its smooth solid gameplay and mw3 is no different. They have weighed up graphics and frames per second and have got this spot on. If it's not broken, don't fix it! Great addition to the cod franchise!!!

Yes, this game feels like MW2 with a few tweaks. Yes, the graphics are dated - but you would never know it on the 360, battlefield actually looks much worse than MW3 on consoles (btw, I love BF3 too! :D ). Yes, this is the 'madden' of FPS's. But, let me give an example for my arguement: Counter-Strike is still one of the biggest FPS's in the world - after being out for over ten yearsYes, this game feels like MW2 with a few tweaks. But, let me give an example for my arguement: Counter-Strike is still one of the biggest FPS's in the world - after being out for over ten years and never changing the formula. People like the way it feels and they wouldn't want it to change very much, if at all. Modern Warfare is the console version of that formula. It works, not because people are 'mindless drones', but because they love the gameplay and want a fresh look on the formula. New maps, graphical tweaks, and great gameplay could keep this game going for years.

I could understand that some people are tired of call of duty, that's fine. I never really got into the other games too much - just played them on and off - but I'm having a blast with this game. Gameplay wise, this is by far the best 'feeling' game of the series, the controls just feel right. As for the maps, they are the best ones yet. If you are the type that likes to lay low in a building somewhere in a corner and camp... you might hate these maps. The maps are small and made for fast action. They all have a great 'flow' to them, many different routes to take, and many ways to either put yourself in good position to flank enemies or get out of a bad situation. There's also tons of cover, there's debris/objects everywhere, so there's many different ways to 'play' the areas of a map.

All in all, an amazing iteration of COD, the best one yet. As you can see from the other reviews on this website, the hatred toward the call of duty franchise is unmatched - as of this writing, there are 863 'negative' reviews with only 215 'positive'... But, there are nearly two million people, just on Xbox Live, playing MW3 online at this very moment.

    My Gripes:

-The maps are uninspired and too small in comparison to previous installments. Sniping should be pretty much overlooked.

-The control sensitivity is not precise enough. At the lowest setting, I can barely turn my view. Just an adjustment above that and it's extremely sensitive, making it hard to aim. I never had this problem on MW2 or Black Ops. There definately needs to be some fine tuning.

-Running around feels as though I'm skating on ice. Never got this feeling in the older games.

-Character models look too similar. At one point, I'm running around in a map where both my teammates and enemies are wearing grey uniforms that look nearly identical.

The game definitely feels like a poorly done DLC and I'm already wanting to sell it and put the money toward Skyrim. I've been playing CoD for years now and I always found it to be a superior game to Battlefield, until now. Go buy that instead if you want a great multiplayer experience.

The new multiplayer game modes are a welcomed addition to say the least. I did find that there were some "glitches" with certain things , such as the knifing, but its still overall extremely fluid. The story mode was fun to play through and quite interesting to see it all come together from the beginning to now . My only gripe is that the story mode was extremely short, between 3.5 to 4 hours depending on how you play. But lets face it, who buys a Call of Duty game anymore for the story ? Everything now is multiplayer, which is why I was so pleased with the story that they did do. Even on a primarily multiplayer game , they still took the time and energy to put together a great story, which I appreciate. So far the maps on multiplayer are decent, but nothing to thrill about. Multiplayer is more balanced, single player has been ramped up in the ridiculousness, I like it much, much, more than I wanted to after the less than amicable split between the Activison and West/Zampella. After having played every COD game developed by IW since the original, I was certainly upset that the final chapter of the MW series wouldn't have many of the original guys working on it, but as much as I dislike Activision, they gave this game enough resources to do it justice. It was almost an "all hands on deck" situation it seems. As much as I detest the pace of the release schedule, they have earned a bit of respect from me for not dropping the ball on this game. Expand

Every player can succeed and get all sorts of rewards and progressions to keep them coming back. I would've liked to have seen more of an improvement in graphics (which is where BF3 takes the cake hands down), but if you liked MW2 then you'll love this game. With all the new customizations, new maps, and new killstreak rewards attainable by all types of players, this game is great and I'd totally suggest it to anyone who likes FPS games. Expand

Like many people I was worried about how MW3 would fare given that Infinity Ward practically remains itself in name only now and because they brought in Sledgehammer, a company I have never heard of, to help finish it up in time. In fact, I hadn't even planned on getting the game until I bought Battlefield 3 and was so horribly disappointed that I had to see if I could get my shooter fixLike many people I was worried about how MW3 would fare given that Infinity Ward practically remains itself in name only now and because they brought in Sledgehammer, a company I have never heard of, to help finish it up in time. In fact, I hadn't even planned on getting the game until I bought Battlefield 3 and was so horribly disappointed that I had to see if I could get my shooter fix from MW3.
Before I begin I should state that I play CoD for the multiplayer. The only CoD campaign I finished was that of the first MW, so my review is based on that aspect, not the campaign (though I have played a bit of the campaign and it looks like I might finish another one.) At the outset I was disappointed in MW3. The maps seemed convoluted and poorly designed, with no open areas and nothing but corridors. Even using the theatre mode to fly through the maps didn't give me the "oh I get it now" feeling that I got from doing that in Black Ops. I instantly chalked it up to a bunch of noob game designers aping Infinity Ward and failing miserably to catch the feel of their level designs and I was crestfallen. How could both shooters have been such disappointments? Nevertheless, I stuck with it and before long, something clicked. I can't tell you what it was, but suddenly maps started making sense, it felt very much like CoD, and I started bagging more kills than I ever have in CoD matches. (I really do suck at these games.) The addition of Kill Confirmed is fantastic. I've never played a shooter that did so well at forcing team members to act like they were a team (and by the way, why aren't more of you playing this mode??? There is something wrong with you.) On top of that having three options for killstreak rewards is EXACTLY what I've been wanting since I started playing these games. Finally, people who have lives outside of CoD can actually earn a killstreak reward. Now that I've learned some of the maps and I'm building classes that I enjoy this game feels very much like a proper successor to the first two MW's; the new IW and Sledgehammer did very well. There are some issues (at least with the PS3) that need to be worked out, such as the occasional game breaking lag, and connection issues during matchmaking. But these are all things that can be patched at a later date. Overall, this is a good game and, though I never thought I would be saying this, it is the clear winner in the MW3/Battlefield 3 match up. If you're on the fence, buy it. I suspect most of these poor reviews are just Battlefield trolls. There is just simply no way that every professional reviewer is wrong. The real MW fans are playing MW3, not writing bad reviews online.

Super smooth, a 60 frames per second makes this game look crystal clear. A little sharper graphics, that are tough to spot at first, but once you see the first car explode you will know exactly what I mean. Buildings collapse when you hit them with a missile from the chopper, balconies collapse when you man the mini-gun. The water looks real, trees and grass blow as a storm approaches, and I actually stopped more than once to look around at the sky and the sunset. It was that beautiful. Bigger scale. MW was about a few guys in Russia, MW2 was about defending the eastern states in the U.S. MW3 is about the entire world under attack. And you feel it. Cool set pieces for firefights that are multi-level transitional. Not just where you've got guys on the second story (and stay there) and guys down low (and stay there) you've got people running up and down stairs using the environment. One time i saw an enemy running towards me, and I was thinking "what an idiot this dude's gonna get shot in the face, stupid A.I.," only to see him actually running up to a car, he opens the car door, and hides behind it! I was blown away. A beef i had with Black Ops was that sometimes it felt like a shooting gallery. You would walk forward it would "trigger" the enemy spawn, they line up in a row, and you kill 'em, and move on. But here i felt like there are people everywhere and all the time! And there's always this rushed feeling of progression, where if you try to camp and kill everybody someone yells, "C'mon we gotta keep moving!" So you didn't feel like you had to kill everyone, but that the mission was more important. A major improvement is the feel and sounds of the guns. They feel great, and I can't tell if it's extra vibration in the controller or what, but it's different. It's crisp. I love breach scenes. i swear I'd buy a game where all you do it breach every room. Now before you declare me a CoD fanboy, remember, this is all just the campaign I've been talking about! I haven't even touched the multiplayer or the special ops missions/survival. Those are what will ensure that you will never need to ditch the game just because the campaign is over. This game is loaded and if you can put aside the "it's cool to hate on modern warfare" fad that seems to be all the rage, you'll be blown away at this masterpiece. I love Modern Warfare 3 and I don't care who knows it. P.S. Airplane level FTW! Expand

There is nothing to say about this game and that's the main problem I have, it's been 5 years since the fourth entry in the series made its way to the seventh generation of consoles, and nothing but a dated engine with the same gameplay mechanics that have been recycled over the years make up for a good game in 2011.

In conclusion, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is just another COD game that will have a one year life spam. All it's glory will be forgotten when the next entry will form part of the COD family, sadly this isn't good for gaming, and as a gamer myself I have to give what think this game deserves.

Look at COD 3, look at COD4.

Do the same thing with COD4 and MW3.

Compare the differences between both pairs of games. There is a HUGE AMOUNT of difference between cod3 and cod4, but barely any difference between cod4 and mw3. They have 4 games worth of changes and it still didn't amount to the huge amount of changes between cod3 and cod4. Do something like that, Infinity Ward, or Treyarch. This game is only good if you have never played any of the Call of Duty games before, otherwise IT IS THE SAME EXACT THING with about 6 changes. They even took buildings straight out of Call of Duty 4 instead of making new ones. It is an absolutely awful and cheap game that the developers probably spent about 1 week of their time on in the whole 2 years that they had to work on the game. The worst part about the game though, is the super crazy cod community who thinks that there is nothing better than cod, and they have no variety. It isn't just in video games either, these people are never trying anything new, they are the ones who complain about everyday things like food because they never try anything new. The worst part about these people is that they actually try to argue that this game is better than BF3. In some areas, yes, but overall BF3 is indefinitely and quite obviously the SUPERIOR game. I have played cod for a long time, but recently it has just been boring playing the same game over and over again, so I switched to Battlefield, and even BFBC2 is better than MW3. Don't waste your money, and don't pay attention to critic reviews, the good ones are all bought and paid for. This game is the same crud rehashed over and over again. I bet the developers didn't spend one week on this, maybe on the maps and re-skinning guns that they have probably had since MW2 but didn't put them in that because they decided they could make another game with it. Whether you like it or not, this game is going to get SUPER boring SUPER fast. I hope that this is the call of duty game where developers realize they can't be lazy, I hope the next cod game is as exciting as COD4, but... unfortunately, it probably won't. Hopefully this is the end of lazy work or the end of the Call of Duty series because as far as I'm concerned different people are getting credit for something done 4 years ago.

    (PS3 Version)
The game has everything I wanted it to; an awesome multiplayer experience, a co-op mode that has been improved in many ways from MW2, and a campaign mode full of the nonstop action set pieces we've come to expect from the series. Perhaps the best part is that all of this plays out at a smooth 60fps with crisp graphics- something I found lacking in the PS3 version of BF3.

Perhaps the best part is that all of this plays out at a smooth 60fps with crisp graphics- something I found lacking in the PS3 version of BF3.

Multiplayer has been tweaked since the last game and is just as good as ever. It is not a complete reinvention of the series, but to be honest that isn't at all necessary when it plays this well. The perk system will have its fans and detractors; personally I like it however sometimes I do wonder if it rewards people that have invested time into the game slightly too much over someone who has just started playing. This is due to everything leveling up over time including weapons, weapon modifiers, perks, equipment ect. On the flip side it keeps you playing and it is not a requirement to prestiege once everything has been unlocked.

Spec Ops is back once again and the new wave mode in the form of Spec ops survival, alongside missions that can be played both Co-Op and solo make this an awesome part of the game. I found that some of the missions were changed when I played them solo which was good as there are now leader-boards that allow you to track just how well you are doing vs the rest of the world.

Campaign won't give any real surprises gameplay-wise if you have played a previous entry in the series, however as with the multiplayer mode why fix it if it ain't broke! The levels are quite engaging and I felt the characters had a little more to them this time around when compared with MW2. The inclusion of a few new weapons and some cool set pieces meant that I was happy to play through this to the end.

Overall an amazing game that is easily worth your money!

After buying BF3 a week ago I can see how the games are both very different, however I can't see why there is a need for BF3 fans to rant about how MW3 is a bad game. Both have areas where they excel over the other however in my personal opinion MW3's 60fps smooth gameplay, better visuals, inclusion of split screen co-op and online multiplayer, and survival mode are just some of the reasons I prefer it over BF3. I find the lack of vehicles to be a good thing and as someone that is not part of a large clan, the team based structure of BF3 can sometimes get annoying when I am matched with a bunch of Noobs against a clan of Vets. To everyone that has given this game a rating of 0..grow up, you may not like it but to deserve a 0 a game would have to be literally unplayable! rating a game out of 10 does not mean "Give 10 for good or 0 for not good"! In reality I would give this a 10 and BF3 an 8 (On PS3 as I believe BF3 performs slightly better on PC and could get more).

My main annoyance is the awful connections. There's times that I go thru 5-8 pre-game lobbys and just get kicked out just as I believe the round is about to start, uurrrggggg. I've also noticed during Multi-Player if it's all good and you decide to back out of a pre-game lobby it will be hard to get back into a game without having to backup all the way to the Main Menu. Also, the whole ELITE no/poor connectivity thing is truly disgracefull the way you expect the public to "Pay and Not Play" just distasteful. 3. If you ignore all the racists and 13 yo on multiplayer it is just as fun as it has always been. The features and options are still top notch, and it is infinitely better than black ops multiplayer. I've heard complaints about map design, but once you get adjusted to the new layouts they are pretty good. So bottom-line buy the game if you like the other 2 modern warfare games, and if you didn't like them don't buy it. It is a fun multiplayer game with a bad campaign mode (7.5/10)

I will agree that the multiplayer online is a lot like MW2. I mean the map selection is different, but you can tell almost every map was taken from MW2 and changed around a bit. The gun selection is the same. A gun added here and there but nothing major like a complete weapon overhaul. I must say I like the new option you have online as far as the way you customize classes. I must say my review is geared my toward users looking to play online as I do not play this game in campain mode so my review is 85% online play. There are a few new death streaks which are pretty neat, and also killstreak rewards. Prestige is now level 80 so that's the highest yet of a COD game so far I believe. Modern Warfare was 55 I believe. All controls are the same, and gameplay is the same (speed, graphics, sound, etc.) Overall I give it a 7.0 because 1. there is always room for improvement. 2. a point deducted for lack of map variation and graphic enhancements and 3. not much better than MW2 and dissapointing, I was expecting more. The game tries very, very hard to be exciting, edgy, and shocking, but it fails on every level. While the set pieces are bombastic and loud, they carry no weight and have no emotional attachment to them, making them fall flat. What worsens this problem is that the game has absolutely no sense of pacing whatsoever. My playthrough took exactly 4 hours and 33 minutes and frankly the game would have greatly benefited from some slow moving filler to balance out the explosions. Good pacing requires valleys to go with the peaks, otherwise it all feels like one long, incredibly boring plain, which describes MW3 in a nutshell. There are no moments in the game that get ones blood pumping, no moments that evoke any particular emotion, and the script is bad on top of it. All of this is exasperated by the fact that the graphics and sound design are bad to the point of laughable. The gun models look barely better than some PS2 games, the explosions lack volume, the textures are muddy and low-res, the character models are just bad, no easy way to put it, and worst of all the sound design is compressed and unimpressive. I played on a 5.1 surround sound setup and while games like Killzone push the limits of graphical and audio fidelity and action in the genre, MW3 has felt content to go witht the absolute barest minimum of effort and it shows, and the game suffers because of it. The multiplayer offers no solace either. Simply put this is one of the shallowest, most vapid multiplayer games I have ever played. There is absolutely zero depth to the gameplay and no thought has been put into higher level play tactics, in fact, through its egregious killstreak system it actively discourages higher level techniques and play, and instead works to recreate the constant explosions of the single player game, and everything suffers because of it. Unavoidable deaths are a constant, both from getting hit by overhead killstreaks as soon as you spawn, and then from the laughably bad spawn system that often has players spawning in the middle of groups of enemies giving them free kills. Its broken to the point of worrisome. Did anybody actually play this tripe before release? All of this games depth has been put into the loadout system, which boils down to finding the most overpowered weapon and using that, negating any depth that could have arisen. Since there is no teamwork, no teammate reliance, and no interdependence the game is as shallow online as a teaspoon in death valley. The lack of distinct classes and good team modes really hurts the online's replayability and the hardcore gamer will find its lowering everything to the lowest common denominator nothing short of insulting. This is not a game for you if you like shooters. This is not a game for you if like new things. This is not a game for you if you like innovation. And this is certainly not a game for you if you like balance and good gameplay. This is also not the game for you if you're looking for good graphics, sound, and story. If you want any of those things I suggest getting a better game, like Killzone 3. I cannot recomment MW3 on any level, as if miserably fails on ALL OF THEM. However it gets +2 points on my review for at least working without glitches, bravo sledgehammer, your bugtesters are the most talented people on your staff. Expand

I'm not sure if it's just me or anyone is feeling how slow the character runs even with "Extreme Conditioning" active- I find my thumb aching from pressing too hard as a habit to make him run faster, highly annoying. The single game seems to be interesting albeit the same dream it seems I had in MW2 where you get babied along the missions. I wish the game was faster, more creative, and had more interaction with your surrounding on multiplayer. It also seems too "cartoonish" like Black Ops, not realistic like MW2.
The Pros: You get to vote on which board to play next which is a cool concept on multiplayer, The Vault allows you to look at how you did on multiplayer gameplay. There are new games to play like Kill Confirmed that add a new dimension.

Nothing new. As every year we get the same game, just that for more and more money. In addition, the company wants to pull out money for an application, which should be free.

If you actually like it when a publisher spends 2 years to re-release the same game without ANY technical improvement whatsoever, by all means buy MW3 and enjoy it.

As a gamer and a consumer, I've come to expect quite substantial improvements in sequels to previous games, especially sequels to successful hits.
All of the sequels this year (Uncharted, Gears of War, Resistance, Killzone, Batman, Dark Souls, Skyrim, + MANY others) have at least attempted, and in most cases succeeded, in upping the quality of various aspects of their game.
What about MW3 then? Zero, nada, zilch! Same graphics engine, same physics, same poor lighting effects. This stuff was barely good-looking in 2009's MW2, let alone now where other games have caught up SO MUCH.
I don't play BF3, but cannot deny how amazing it looks. Uncharted 3 even refined its graphics over the previous one. Batman Arkham City made an environment that is so huge it will take you weeks to cover. MW3? Another 5 hour campaign with piss-poor visuals and same old gameplay.

And while it's fair to say that the CoD formula is what we should expect for each new instalment, I don't expect to find the SAME BUGS THAT WERE PRESENT IN 2007 FOR MW1!!! Seriously, 4 years and 4 CoD games with the same bugs, same AI issues, same graphics, same sounds. If the "CoD formula was PERFECT", then they could re-release the sahem thing. It's not!

I'm selling mine without even finishing the campaign....

I don't understand how this game was in development for two years when it's the same as mw2. This is sad that this game has not changed. I'm happy i got this from gamefly instead of buying it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MW3 multiplayer is too good. Most accurate and smoothest multiplayer of all time. Campaign is very dramatic but superb. The only thing which needs improvement is graphics. Battlefield 3 has better graphics than MW3 but that doesn't mean MW3 is sh** still kicking ass with it's superb campaign and addictive multiplayer Expand

Horrendous! 5 hours to complete the single player and nothing new from MW or MW2. Multiplayer is also a total copy paste from the previous versions. Exactly the same just new maps. V Disappointed. Not sure how IGN or Gamespot can give this btw 9 and 10!!

Modern Warfare 3 is little more than another $59.99 map pack for Call of Duty 4. It's really time that Activision did more than just employing 2 game developers to move building around on maps, change some textures and some minor tweaking of features and then calling it a new game. So lame.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.

By sticking to the series' strengths, Modern Warfare 3 delivers some of the best competitive, cooperate, and single-player shooting in the business.

As a complete package, Modern Warfare 3 takes the cake. [Jan 2012, p.67]
