If you love Call of Duty you'll enjoy Modern Warfare 3. The Infinity Ward engine hasn't updated much since CoD 4 but what most don't understand the 60 fps essentially separates the engine from most FPS on a console. The campaign as always is extremely linear not giving the player much freedom to roam and discover. Survival is fun with a friend but what surprises me is the lack of 4 player co-op. Major let down from Sledgehammer and IW. Multiplayer is addicting as the previous titles. I myself found many similarities from MW2 in MW3. Call it MW2.5 or over priced down loadable content it is the Modern Warfare 2 we've always wanted it to be. Balanced! Not much has changed but it's a definite improvement. In some aspects it lacks creativity. The multiplayer maps are claustrophobic and out of the 16 maps shipped with the game you seem to only cycle through seven of the same maps. These development studios aren't to blame for a game that feels literally rushed and unfinished. Activision sole purpose is to deliver a new CoD title every holiday season/every year. Gamers knew exactly what they were getting themselves into when they purchased this game. If you expected anything more than what it is your decision purchasing the game and being disappointed is your fault. Do some research before purchasing a title or at least rent the game, so on and so on. What frustrates me is I know so many people that made it clear to me that this is one of the worst games ever made and how they feel robbed but continue to play the game as if they somewhat enjoyed it? I'm left confused by the community or their intensions to totally destroy a video game in the first place. Overall the game is fun but it dosen't reinvent the genre or improve much to take it to the next level. The game deserves a 8.5. Anything less is a representation of a immature community. If you want to play Skyrim well then go play it without insulting a franchise that is in a completely different genre. Expand

Its the same game as modern warfare 4. I cant believe the developers are actually charging full price for this garbage. It would have made sense to maybe make this a 30 dollar expansion,Being that the campaign is only 4-5 hours long, and the muti-player is simply a few tweaks here and there. Do your self a favor and put your money into something else

The first CoD: Modern Warfare was a great game, all the others are just expensive map packs. There's absolutely no innovation, that's the sad truth; Activision destroyed this franchise. Don't ever waste your money on it.

Call of duty modern warfare 3 is the best first person shooter I have ever played.... Bar none. He maps are super realistic and the killstreaks are much improved. I love the new system that upgrades each weapon as your proficiency with it increases. Infinity Ward and Activision knocked it out of the park with this one.

First of all. This game is really good. And yes, I agree with all of you tools that love bf3 so much. This is not an innovative game. Not even a little bit. BUT that doesn't make it a bad game. This game is not a game that tries to do something new, but this is a part of a series. not like from the old CoDs that was WW2 to this modern warfare. I own both Battlefield 3 and CoD: MW3 and I like them both. The graphics are impressive on BF3 but graphics isn't all aye? CoD still have better feeling, you can actually see and feel the 60 fps (frames per second for you turd-faces out there) So my final answer is that this game is really, really, really good. Not as mind-blowing as CoD4 was but still a better game. Period. Expand

Well, I traded in BF3 for MW3 this week and was pleasently surprised. After MW2, I really wasn't expecting much but MW3 is a decent game:

Well, I traded in BF3 for MW3 this week and was pleasently surprised. After MW2, I really wasn't expecting much but MW3 is a decent game:

    Pros:

    1) Guns are amazing.

    2) I really like what they have done with the kill streaks. The introduction of the support package is brilliant and makes the game more enjoyable for the average player that can't get a 20 kill streak every game.

    Cons:

    1) The lag is worse than ever. More than any game I have every played, your performance is directly related to your internet connection. This is the biggest letdown of the entire COD series. It's very frustrating hitting an enemy with half a magazine only to have them stop, turn, aim, and shoot with a pistol and kill you with one shot, then have the killcam show you never even fired.

    2) The spawn points are ridiculous. Just like MW2, you constantly spawn in front of an enemy, away from your team, only to get shot immediately. Why can Treyarch get this right and Infinity or Sledgehammer or who ever the heck can't?

    3) Speaking of not getting it right, what is the deal with quick scoping sniper rifles? Treyarch did a decent job of controlling this but the quick scoping idiots are back in full force in MW3. That had to be one of the 3 biggest complaints about MW2 and COD 4 and they still can't fix it? A sniper rifle is supposed to be a sniper rifle, not a close range single shot kill shotgun. Absolutely unacceptable.

    4) Campaign is utterly forgettable. I remember what an intriguing and amazing campaign COD 4 had, but apparently Infinity shot their load with that one installment because the last two Modern Warfare campaigns have been a monumental waste of time.

    5) Spec Ops mode is ok to play through once but there is no replay value what so ever. I found myself playing Black Ops zombies incessently because it was a ton of fun and always interesting. Plus you could play it online with 3 other people which always makes it interesting.

Overall I would give MW3 a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. But multiplayer is the only reason to own this game. Black Ops is cleary the superior game in all regards. Treyarch is now the premier studio under the Activision umbrella.

And as for Battlefield 3, nice try EA. Call of Duty killer? Not even close and not even worth a review.

This iteration of Call of Duty takes the cake for the worst game to date. I hear many arguments about Activision VS Treyarc(h? I can't quite remember currently how to spell it) but this is honestly just a rehash of Modern warfare 2, with bad graphics, awful maps and little to no gun variation, and there is no innovation, it's like a big middle finger to anyone that was looking forward to playing this game at all...
I run this game on a 1080i HD screen, and the graphics, honestly look cartoony to me, there's a sepia/beige overtone to almost every map, and the entire game just looks... off. The guns come off as rough, bulky and just plain ugly, with about 6 of them in each category. The attachments while varied(For this game) look the same on every gun, I.E. My ak47 red dot looks exactly like every other red dot scope this adds to a bulky SMG, in the middle of my line of sight and it's ugly!
The maps themselves feel and play very weird, I mean it's like they wanted to get rid of camping but instead, made a game where the only way to play well is to camp like there's no tomorrow. You're consistently getting shot in the back and, when you're not you're getting sniped. The respawning is horrible, I've literally respawned next to an opponent in almost every match and when playing hardcore this creates moments when you're waiting to respawn more then you're playing the game. So while it seems like they tried to lessen camping, it made the need for camping even greater. Not to mention the fat that these maps are so... Narrow, there are barely any open places (think nuketown). And my biggest complaint is that they all look the same Cluttered with some destroyed vehicle sitting in the middle of the field sprinkle some sepia here, or add snow there, boom done. It's like being punched over and over again.
I compare this game to black ops because I played Black ops multiplayer a lot more then other COD Multiplayer, and in black ops there were a ton of guns, a ton of camos for your gun, and better yet the guns looked different, I knew what the hell the commando looked like (and thought it was cool as **** too, a circle gun? **** YES!) I knew what the AK looked like, the famas the galil, within days of playing I could tell every assault rifle apart from others... In Mw2... I mean 3, They all look the same, with some black handle sticking out of them. the biggest variation is the Ak47 which looks (Slightly) different from most other guns. There is very little camo variation (WHYISTHIS?)
    Other faults (that I've found)
They brought back quick scoping (THISIZSOFAKIWANTTOSHOOTMYSLFWHNEVRISEEEeeeeeIT)
    Massive connection problems and glitches
Spec ops is not Zombies, will never be Zombies and should stop trying to be zombies. (I don't understand why they don't just add in zombies too...)
There's something off in the aiming, I'll be using a sniper rifle across the map (yes i snipe, because I have to) and have someone dead to rights, shoot and miss, how do i miss your chest? and then get quckscoped in the face... The perks... I personally do not like any of the perks...

So many claim that the game is "exactly the same as MW2" and "feels more like an expansion pack." Really? They completely changed the perk system, so now it feels more balanced than ever. Unlike in MW2, the guns all have some kick and sway which actually makes the game challenging. Kill streaks have now been replaced by the brilliant point streak system which rewards all styles of play. The specialist and support strike packages are also fun new additions which can change the way you play the game entirely. Weapon XP and proficiency are also a cool addition which adds a new dynamic to the game similar to the way cod points did in Black Ops... so again, really?? If this is "just an expansion pack" then I think it's an amazing one. I will say though that I do have some issues with the maps; there are too many buildings and they really do feel maze-like, and sometimes the lag is a little ridiculous. The worst thing about this game has to be the problems on the PS3 when attempting to log onto online multiplayer. The existing faults with the old games have now been brought into the "new" game, with constant errors, such as, unable to migrate host and unable to connect to server. For me, this was the main reason i parted with the game 2 days after release date and traded it in to lose £10.00 on the original value.

I'm very disappointed with modern warfare 3, this should have been a 1200msp dlc expansion pack.
I gave the game a 1 because a lot of the annoying perks/killstreaks/weapons were removed.
Nothing new here, critics seem to be afraid to give an honest opinion/score, I hope the devs and publisher read our reviews and get the hint.

It's superb! There aren't any bad things I can say about this game. There are no problems in this game at all so I'm enjoying online multiplayer very well. Spec Ops has been revamped with Survival mode which is really entertaining. Loving it to bits! Although this game is similar to MW2 but with all different maps!

Enemies can get to you from 4 or 5 angles often.

The engine is 7 years old that has been tweaked here and there. BF3 has a new Frostbite 2 engine that has introduced large scale warfare maps.

The network is my biggest gripe, and when you consider it's rival BF3 has introduced dedicated servers the same old tired p2p hosted games just isn't acceptable anymore.

it's with reluctance I score MW3 so low.

I also like this games arcadish style which makes it fun to play. BF3's simulation style was interesting at first, but then the restrictions of realism made the game boring. It's true, they didn't make a lot of changes to this game from the last installment of MW3, and on reading that, I was disappointed. I liked the conflict of COD vs BF and wanted them to both make great improvements as a result. I also am disappointed at the way things transpired with the original makers of COD, it's a bad break. That being said, I picked up my copy of COD and popped it in ready to be disappointed with the same old game being done again. But it took me playing the game to realize...it doesn't matter. This game has been a favorite for a reason, its fun to play, the campaign (though not as good as the original) holds up equally as well as the previous 2 MW's and everything from spec ops to multiplayer are still just as great. SOOO much better than Black ops was, and I'm glad I spent the money. I can't help but think the negative reviews have to be a combination of BF fanboys and people upset (and rightfully so) about what the firing of the orig creators. That said, if you're on the fence about purchasing this game, pull the trigger (pun intended), if you loved the first two MW's, your going to love this one too. Stop bashing this game and making stupid excuses to do so...the graphics may not be as good as Battlefields, but in my opinion (and thats what all of these are, feel free to form your own) this game is more fun. Love them both, still a bigger COD fan. And for those that think I'm a COD fanboy, I'm a grown man and not the type to feel some sort of brand loyalty and force it down your throat. I just am upset I almost missed out on a great game because some people want to see this game fail for whatever reason. In closing...I agree I'd like to see them improve on this game and add more to it, but whats missing doesn't warrant it getting a 0 or a 5. I'd say this game is a solid 8 or 9, but I'm forced to give it a 10 to outweigh the negative response. Expand

The multiplayer on MW3 (which is what we buy it for after all) is dreadful. Lazy, uninspiring maps that are all lazy rehashes of old COD maps. Interchange for example, is so similar to underpass that you can't believe that they could get away with it. There isn't a single stand out map, and they're all far too frantic, with no possibility of tactics or team play.

The multiplayer is awful!! small maps with objects everywhere creating plenty of choke points, meaning if your an objective based player be prepared to die a lot, stackable killstreaks are a nightmare, players sitting in corners or the choke points trying to get the streaks up, matchmaking is the worst of any cod series, if you have just stared playing and you are a low level expect to go up against high level players, these high level players with have unlocked some of the better perks and most of the pro versions, meaning they have a major advantage, i'm an expierenced cod player so although this is annoying i can still put in good games, for new players expect to die alot!! If you like dying by sniper rifles shooting you 2 feet away, stabbing from 10 feet away and hip firing from range then try out the multiplayer, to get certain perks you have to level, which is very annoying because untill you reach that level its harder to play objective based games, black ops let players buy perks and equipment and any stage as long as they had cod points, now i have to level to get the perks i need to help me play the objective, the above reasons will make it hard for any new player to get into this game, there are plenty of other problems with the multiplayer but to many to list. This cod game has taken a step backwards from black ops, what with so many other good games out there, this game is not going to be on my playlist, i preordered the elite copy, but canceled it, which im glad i did, this game is worth renting and playing but not worth the price to buy it new. There are 16 maps, all of them don't feel varied enough like other CoD games. They all felt like close-quarter chaos. For a franchise that is as popular as this, and brings in a much revenue as it does, it is inexcusable that more refinement didn't go into this game. There aren't even dedicated ranked servers, that is pathetic when other shooters pull that off with less revenue. First things first, I do not find this to be a copy and paste of Modern Warfare 2! I find it hypocritical of anyone to say so, Gears of War 3, Battlefield 3, all contain same weaponry and similar game play. I personally think MW3 has been given a hard time due to hard feelings on the fact it was clearly going to sell so well.
    Now:
Spec Ops, is probably the most disappointing aspect in my eyes. I found it lacked the same addictive style of It's dead counterpart 'Zombies' and also didn't promote the same kind of camaraderie between friends, featuring only 2 players. I found the decision to make one players death end the game add a bit too much stress to those who like to play as a lone wolf within a group so to speak, and after the first 15 rounds began to become a bit repetitive. I praise the new leveling system however, it adds longevity to Spec Ops, however I don't feel the content is strong enough to hold the leveling system.
The campaign is not too shabby, the story line is not great but anyone who played 15 seconds of any Modern Warfare game knows Infinity Ward never intended it to be an emotional ride with depth and psychology. The levels are larger, not repetitive, and the action sequence are explosive as ever. Nothing incredibly knew here but we all get the feeling the campaign is merely a distraction to the beast that is CoD: Multiplayer. The campaign takes only a few hours, and whilst I wouldn't by the game solely for it, I find it to be a decent time waster and quite the thrill ride. The graphics DO look marginally better, explosions and gunfire audio have also been improved. In campaign and multiplayer, despite the hilarity of it all, you do feel like you are in a battlefield.
Most importantly, the Multiplayer aspect. The Multiplayer is excellent and a massive improvement on any other CoD so far. The maps are particularly good, despite the somewhat dull names. If you want to snipe, windows are littered over every map. Want to rush? Multiple flanking routes tube through each map. Want to camp? There are plenty of places to take cover. Want to get a multi-kill explosion? Each map is bursting with cars and flammable barrels.
The weaponry is also much better than expected, plenty of new things added here, and improvements made upon the older ones. No gun feels weak, in fact all are insatiably powerful, and the upgrade system is excellent. In the other CoD's, I'd find myself bumping up my killstreaks, earning points/ XP and just buying what I wanted at the right level. In MW3 if you want rapid fire, then you better buckle down and earn it by getting a fair few kills with that gun. It really gives the player incentive to try every single gun and Fleshes out the use you can get from them. The recoil and bullet impacts add a flash a realism to CoD, which is something most players aren't used to. If someone shoots you, you will immediately die. If you try and pop someones head from the other side of the map with the assualt rife, you will have a hard time due to the harsh recoil. Want to solve it? Get good with the gun and unlock the 'Kick' proficiency to reduce recoil. Raising the level cap was a better idea, with the prestige icons not looking too inspiring however this is outdone by the new prestige shop, in which you can spend one token each prestige, to purchase something extremely useful. Such as carrying a weapon over into your next prestige, to prevent working for it again, and even giving yourself 2 hours double XP to help you rush through those prestige's to get to the top even quicker!
Two new game modes have been added, Team Defender and Kill confirmed. Kill Confirmed being the game where you must collect Dog Tags from fallen enemies in order to register the score, or collect Dog Tags from dead team mates to deny your enemies the kill!.. All in all I was not majorly impressed but I found it to be a fresh addition Team Defender, however, is quite brilliant and hectic. It's a normal TDM however, a neutral flag appears on the map after the first kill, and players must rush to hold it for there team to get double points. The enemy will be shown on the map whilst they are holding the flag, meaning when you have it, you're going to have 6 people in your ass. All people in the game spawn near the flag after dying, meaning the battle is constant, and crazy and is always moving around the map.
So, with the weak Spec Ops mode, a decent campaign but a perfect Multiplayer earn this game an 8 in my eyes. If more effort was put into Spec Ops, I'd edge towards a 9 or ten but in my eyes it brought it down a point or two.
Thank you for your time, if you want a good FPS multiplayer experience, head to your shop and buy CoD!

    Can anyone say map pack?
Yes it's call of duty, and that can only mean one thing... nothing has changed, it looks and plays exactly the same as all the other call of duty games.
£80 for this with Elite (buggy as hell) subscription... waste of money and time.

A quick review on the goods... Or bads, rather.

It's a repackaged Modern Warfare 2, that does a great injustice to Modern Warfare 2. Imagine a delayed version of Modern Warfare 2 with some crappy or only half-way decent new maps. When I said delayed I mean that it takes longer to do everything in this game. Whether that's using a UAV killstreak, aiming, etc. The game isn't very smooth.

The game isn't very smooth. I, personally, enjoy Call of Duty for it's fast pace and seamless gameplay. This one seems blockier and slower than it's predecessors.

They tweaked bullet damage or health or something. It takes longer to get a kill during your standard bullet exchanged, but they've also thrown in a "Wow that's a lucky shot" factor that happens WAY WAY too often. Play for 30 minutes and you'll have experienced enough of it in your favor to go, "WTF?" and not in your favor to say, "Wow, really?"

Killstreaks might as well be free candy on a parade day, because everyone is getting them and they never stop. I'd love to have 5 seconds without someone on either team calling in another UAV or care package or blah blah blah.

Hardcore fanboys will say this is a great game, and that it's the best of the series. They're deluded.

It isn't really a horrible game. It's just a major disappointment. It doesn't live up to the hype. It doesn't even come close to living up to it. I guess I'll be considering myself a Battlefield player when I'm in the mood to get my FPS-on for the next year or so and I'll likely rent the next Call of Duty that comes out before making a purchase. You think they did this whole elite, pay 60 bucks, and get every expansion free for a year crap because they knew this game was going to be this bad?

I understand why people note so badly, they want new grafics and a revolution of CoD series. But for me I think that if CoD changes to much, it will not be CoD anymore, you see what I mean . However this is a good game, we have the end of Price history and a pretty good experience in survival mode and Multiplayer with those new strike packages .
But please next time make a better graphic engine.

Oh man...modern warfare 2 does not offer this. It only gives you kill rushes. Thats it. And im sure mw3 does the same. I...cannot accept this over the massive stimulation I get from battlefield 3. I get less kills, but The overall experience is better.

People who complain about battlefield 3 cuz of the single player campaign, snipers, people hidden in rubble that look like dead bodies are a bunch of **** who bring down a good game. So, what do you want...fking to have men rush you like monsters do in power rangers so you can get your easy kills?

I don't give a **** about bf3 single player. Bf3 isnt about singleplayer. Its all about the multiplayer, and all you **** who think ps3 graphics sucks for bf3 are a bunch of ****. Graphics dont always make the game---hence why bf2 from 2005 is still the king over all these games. Bf2 is the true call of duty killer, and I fking hate it every time I see a little bc2 **** with a bc2 dog tag playing bf3. I wish that tubes would never be put into multi-player, However, I have heard that the damage has been nurffed. Wouldn't really know because I haven't played multi-player since the second day MW3 has been released. Ok I'm going to get off my soapbox now and say it really doesn't matter about anything in the game if the game just isn't playable. Please Please Please Infinityward address the sound issue. When you make billions of dollars after blacks ops you think you could actually put some effort into the next game and make a good story mode that is more than friekin 5hrs. I payed 65 dollars for a story mode that was full of just shooting 20 guys then get in a car and kill 10 followed by kill 30 more. The story is BS. If you are looking for a refined fast paced FPS, then look no further. Call of Duty MW3 offers a stunning campaign and a load of other features such as multiplayer to keep you entertained.

Although the developers choose to use similar technology to the last game, it delivers a virtually bug free experience with loads of content that still looks very good compared to many other games.

The game offers a lot of content: A full fledged campaign, two Spec Ops mode variations and the famous multiplayer mode. The campaign is quite brief lasting only 6-7 hours, but the other two modes offer a great amount of replay value. The Spec Ops mission mode is a great amount of fun, especially with two people working together. There is also the Spec Ops survival mode, where you work with another player (or by yourself) to survive as long as possible to get high scores until the enemies eventually over power you.

Last but not least there is the multiplayer mode, which can easily give you up to 100+ hours of game play. The game play is similar to previous installments but offers a variety of different tools at your disposal to change up your strategies. The most significant change is the revamped killstreak system: The strike packages. There are three different kinds and each work differently, so you have a better chance of setting yourself up with killstreaks that suit you the most. You can get your killstreaks by completing objectives, destroying enemy killstreaks, or just going around killing opponents. The map design is very different from previous installments, meaning you must change your strategies a bit to be more successful.

Overall, this game is about as good as the series could possibly get at this point. The gameplay may be very similar, but it is nearly perfected. I would highly recommend this game; even if you are a seasoned veteran or a new player. A NOTE TO POTENTIAL BUYERS: Understand this game has been under fire from a variety of different internet users, therefore the game has been falsely rated. Take caution while reading user reviews as a majority of them are filled with false information with the sole purpose of taking the user score down.

this game is recycled garbage. All sounds like leveling up, gun sounds, explosions, are direct copy paste. Maps are poorly designed. Long corridors, few hiding spots, most cover can be shot through, small maps. corridors make using a shotgun a losing effort. almost no way of getting behind the enemy. And if you do the spawn system makes your efforts useless. Spawns are ridiculous. I mean there's 6 enemies on the map. Are you telling me the game engine can't find a good spot to drop me into? Useless perks like recon. pro perks are easy to unlock because they are useless. Most pro perks have nothing to do with the original perk.
assassin and blind eye are necessary to be "stealth" using two spots that should only use one. stealth is impossible due to skulls showing on the enemy screens giving away my killzone.
players can't Sprint farther than 10 feet. Extreme conditioning barely helps.
sniping has been reduced to a low spread shotgun. Quickscope is effortless. No maps promote actual sniping so no wonder they made Quickscope easy.
worthless unlocks. Your just kidding yourself if you think a gun leveling system adds any replayability.
all guns are overpowered. Making any favorites come down to iron sights and clip size.
singleplayer is short and uninventive. players can't jump on anything. But a little piece of trash on the map can stop you dead in your tracks.

the list goes on. Thanks the heavens I didn't buy into your hype and just rented it. This life lesson only cost me 7 dollars opposed to 60.

take your engine and game and scrap it. Your just beating a dead horse. This won't go on forever. I wonder if gamestop is a partner of yours because they know half of the buyers will trade this in allowing them to actually make a profit off of them.
