modern warfare 3 is simply awsome, the best COD game to date! well thought of perks with a lot of great new features. I love the maps, and I have nothing bad to say about the game!

First thing is first: This game has received numerous praise from "official critics" and businessmen alike; that said, it does not deserve this praise whatsoever. Modern Warfare 3 is, essentially, an old game with a new face like many users are starting to realize. The single player is INEXCUSABLY short (clocking in at 4 hours 30 minutes) for a game that costs $60 and has a new iteration released each year. However, we will come to the negatives (of which there are many) in a bit, but first let's touch on what is good about the game:

The Call of Duty franchise is known for its multiplayer, an aspect that is even more fun when played with friends. This remains true, even in this iteration of the current gen shooter. I found myself having fun when playing with friends because the game is new, exciting, and its what they're playing at the moment, right? In addition to this aspect, there was a bit of change with how one upgrades their weapons through experience, ensuring a learning curve to actually using the weapon. Some of the older, overused, and "overpowered" weapons were also locked off until the later multiplayer levels, helping newer players survive a bit longer (since they wont be blown to ashes within the first 20 seconds of the match). That is where all the positives end.

    Now for the negatives:

I wont comment on the "innovation" (or lack thereof) that people seem to be upset about. The fact of the matter is this is the type of game people want to play. End of story. However, while it brings nothing new to the table, it should, under NO circumstances, detract from what was created for previous iterations of the franchise. I'll sum it up in these bullet points:

-Inexcusably short singleplayer with an unsatisfying ending that left me (and a few friends) scratching their heads saying "that's it!?"

-I will make a point in passing stating the graphics arent as sharp as they should be for a game in 2011. While I appreciate their restraint with lens flare (looking at you battlefield 3), these graphics arent up to snuff, and I feel like I've played this game time and time again.

-No playercard customization. While I wont have to look at the sexual imagery that was so prevalent in Black Ops, it is sad to see that I wont also find new, intriguing and plain cool designs.

-Map design. Map design. Map design. I have never seen so much camping in a Call of Duty game. Ever. There are corners. There are exploits where one can clip through trucks. There are catwalks and walljumps. It is bad. The maps are small, boring, and uninspired, drawing heavily from almost every other map you've ever seen in this franchise. Welcome to the skyscraper that is under construction AGAIN!

-The spawn system leaves me wondering how this was ever deemed passable by Infinity Ward or Sledgehammer. All too often, I spawn ontop of my enemy, next to them, behind them, at their domination point, or in the same spot constantly. It sucks. There is no other way of putting it. It will detract from a good time.

-"Pointstreaks" are a new form of killstreak that essentially allow one to do anything and get rewarded with massive explosions of death, which endlessly rain from the sky onto the map. You wont find it hard to get 9 or even 11 hit killstreaks in this game, assuming you have a bit of experience under your belt. The sky is ALWAYS filled with predator missiles, UAVs, Helicopters, or AC-130s. It gets to where one team dominates the other because they restrict access to the outdoors. This game is about PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER, not players versus fleets of helicopters and guided missiles. Pointstreaks merely detract from the overall game through overuse. I cannot stress this point enough. This is the sole reason, for me, that the game scored below a 4.

I was on the fence about purchasing this game. I wasted $60, but that doesn't mean I can't stop someone else from making the same mistake. Rent this. Do not buy. Go to the movies with your friends twice, and you'll get more out of it than actually playing the game itself. No friends? Go to a strip club and get three lapdances for the $60. There is no shame in saying it would be a better use of money. I tried to approach this with as much objectivity as I could muster, but I just cant recommend getting it at all. Do not believe the "official reviewers".

Lazy work all the way!!! It's way dissapointing to see how Activision has already over "milked" the series, just like guitar hero. Infinity Ward died more than a year ago and sledgehammer is garbage, they recycled a game that was released 2 years ago, don't you people see it? They are charging $60 for a few new maps.

Multiplayer in this game is massively disappointing. As someone who never played any COD games before Black Ops, I can't comment on its similarities to MW2. Still, compared to Black Ops, gameplay in MW3 is inferior. While there are some interesting new features in strike packages and weapon proficiencies, it seems like these came at the expense of enjoyable gameplay. The graphics are dull and drab, and there is very little contrast between enemies and backgrounds, so campers can sit and pick players off from across the map with impunity. The crosshairs and hit markers are nearly invisible, another example of poor contrast. Even worse, there are no audible hit markers (as there are in Black Ops), so you can't even tell if you're hitting your enemy until either he dies, or you do. The weapon and ambient sounds are pathetic and nondescript, compared to the formerly distinct reports from each firearm. Furthermore, for some reason, the developers scrapped the ability to dive to prone. The Bluetooth connection is choppy, joining friends is awkward and painstaking, and good luck getting into a lobby in under 120 seconds with more than 1 person in your party. Playercards, which were a fun way to customize your profile, have given way to juvenile images and banners. Combat record - the ability to track your recent games or compare your progress to that of your friends - will now cost you a $50 subscription to the Elite service. Multiplayer, the main reason many players buy this game, is a wholly unsatisfying experience. As opposed to being fun and addictive, it's frustrating and repulsive. Tonight marked the third time since buying the game that I've gotten fed up, ejected the game, and replaced it with my tried-and-true Black Ops disc. While Black Ops has its flaws, they aren't nearly as fatal as those in MW3. Expand

Overall good game but the multiplayer level design is garbage. Rehashed core design of mw2 maps only they aren't fun this time around. They claimed to have fixed spawning but it is worse than ever. I'd rather having the old COD2 or COD4 maps over this crap. What happened to inventive maps like "Carnival"?

Don't waste your money on this really bad game. It's underdeveloped and made by the same old companies. Just don't get it. Multiplayer is the same **** every year. Overpowered guns, whimsy kids who have really bad parrants, and just general slow paced gameplay if you could even call it that.

Having played all the Call of Duty games, this one does sport cleaner graphics and the game play is varied. But the dedicated servers need to be ranked and the tools for admins must be released. This game has potential only if the developers listen to the PC world. Otherwise it will fade quickly

Once ignorance stops taking place and it is actually played, people will indeed have fun. Personally, i think its a great game. It had a fantastic campaign and i'm addicted to multiplayer. It is a sequel to the 2 previous Modern warfares... there is not going to be a drastic change between them. Sequels usually don't fall far from previous titles.. that is the point of them. Now further into the multiplayer... the game in every aspect is different. The new gun customization system and choices give us SO many choices and play styles. They also fixed a lot of the problems in mw2 and haven't gotten credit for it. For example, Noobtubes, Commando, One-Man-Army. Not to mention that the connectivity by far is the best connection i have had on any CoD. Although their recent update caused some lag from the game itself, that can be fixed since an update of theirs caused it. Lets also take into account that game was just released. Also, there is no need to complain about the "feel" of modern warfare. I thought that the reason everyone loved and preferred the series was because they enjoyed the fast pace feel of it. Lastly, the graphics aren't much of an improvement... but there is a difference between mw2 and mw3. Lets be honest, it is not like you have been playing mw2 this whole time...just compare them to the previous CoD's graphics because that is what was made and played last. This game is amazing, by far the best CoD to date. Its a shame that it is not even being given a chance. Stay above the influence! Don't miss out on an amazing gaming experience. :) Expand

The same regurgitated brain dead shooter as always. Infinite re-spawns and absolutely nothing new. They may have upped the graphics slightly but fall far short of Battlefield. You may as well stick with MW2 and not waste your cash on this dead end of a franchise.

Run and gun, explosions everywhere, bullets constantly flying by all making for a very unbelievable over the top experience. Some may love this, I found it excruciatingly difficult to force myself to play it. The graphics here may have sufficed with the release of MW2, but here in 2011, they really do look terrible. Audio feels hollow and lacking when firing most weapons. Multiplayer is essentially the same as MW2. It is an arcade shooter. There are no real strategies beyond improving your reaction time, that will help you win a duel. Average time alive is approximately 10 seconds. Graphics even more poor here than in the campaign. Spec Ops is where I found the most enjoyment. The dual survival mode is fun with a friend and that which I spent the most time with. The missions are mostly non engaging and left me with no feeling of accomplishment upon their completion. In all honesty, this is not the best playing FPS of 2011. During my time with MW3, I only wanted it to be over, and back to playing other games. Like I said before, rent the game and see what you think. Expand

And now they are back in MW3, ALREADY!!?? But the question is will they do something about them this time? Why is there no voting system in the loobys? In the prior two modern warfares, I have enjoyed folliwing captain price around on his missions and this one is no different. Some older characters have even been brought back. My enthusiasm at the exciting story almost overcomes the fact that it took me only 4 and a half hours to play through it. Spec ops is fun with a buddy, and survival is mildly entertaining. This however, is where my praise stops. Multiplayer is very similar to MW2, but actually got worse. Before someone says that I am just whining because I am bad at the game, let me be clear. My kill-death ratio is 2.83 and I have won almost every game I have played, I would consider that good. The maps are small and uninteresting, and almost all of them seem to be in a town or city. There are new weapons, but none of them really feel interesting. Even most of the new killstreaks are very similar to the old ones. Juggernaut is unique, but after about ten times it gets old. I understand that support streaks were added to help players who weren't the best fighters, but it had an unforseen effect. The sky is never clear, and other than in search and destroy, you will always be getting attack from the air by something. I am angered by the fact that the developers will make hundreds of millions of dollars on this game, it doesn't teach them anything. They didn't put enough effort into making it better than MW2 and were content to just make a similar game. The uninteresting maps mean that even by the time you reach level 50 the game won't have grown on you and it never will. Please don't waste your money on this game, make the developers want to give us a better game next time. I for one, will not buy another Call of Duty until an effort is made to make each game feel different than the last. Expand

Luckily it was not a full-price purchase, but rather a copy that a friend let me borrow. I can't say I'm sad to see this franchise go, because I'm about done with this and FPS games altogether. I really hope this franchise (and the entire FPS genre as far as I'm concerned) goes the way of Guitar Hero, because I'm done.

It's like a bad fad that just will not go out of style because Activision knows how to market the game to 12 year old children. The game is rated M, people! Might as well package the game with free cigarettes while they're at it. Needless to say, I was sickened to see how many copies were purchased day one. This does not send a favorable message to developers. Because now, any game that is released that doesn't sell like 4 million in the first 24 hours is just doomed to fail. And to succeed, everyone's just going to start making their own crappy FPS games just to stay afloat.

The multiplayer has considerably improved from MW2 (I didn't play Black Ops) being more balanced, there isn't 90% quick scopers in the game any more, and now you actually have a chance to take them down. The maps are well designed, with a few more central locations where the fighting can take place, and for the most part are seemingly more fast-paced than MW2, with perhaps lacking small maps such as "Rust", however "Dome" does come close. All in all, if you love to play fast-paced first person shooters online, get Modern Warfare 3. It was well worth the wait for me. Expand

So, although I marveled at the chirping of birds and massive battlefields of BF3, I felt - at times - not always, that I was training for a marathon. I don't think soldiers run so much in battle, so often. MW3 is popcorn entertainment. In summary, BF3 is a better game, MW3 is a funner game (I just wish it had better graphics). Expand

I got this game on steam on launch day, hoping it would be better than Black Ops. Biggest mistake I have ever made in buying a game, even worse than buying BO. That game was a mess, and I have deeply regretted buying it, but not more than MW3. I have played MW, MW2, BO, and now MW3 and I can say each game gets worse exponentially. I will never purchase another COD game again.

This game really feels like MW1.5 as there is absolutely nothing new. Graphics are more than 4 years old. Same old boring, predictable story. Multiplayer is exactly the same with new maps. This game could have been a $15 DLC, and even that would be a rip off.

If you guys want a good, quality game, check out The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. There's a game that the developers actually put time into making, about 3 years. Not like each COD game taking less than a year to make, no wonder their quality is so terrible. It's sad that such a piece of junk like MW1.5 can sell millions and even more than games that outclass it like Skyrim. There are just too many mindless, stupid fanboys who enjoy shooting each other with new maps paying a $60 fee every year to do so.

Overall, this game couldn't even last me 2 days as once Skyrim came out I dumped this piece of crap. Hopefully, the COD series dies with this game or they totally reinvent it because it's only going to get worse from here.

For Shame...rehashing items for COD4 and reusing them in MW3. This just goes to show that like Guitar Hero, this franchise is going to go down the same road of more of the same with a new paint job. If you want to play a MW game, stick with COD4 or Black Ops. No need to waste your money on this one.

I give the game ZERO for innovation. MW3 is basically MW2's DLC, except you pay £40 for it, along with a £35 subscription fee to ELITE if you feel you've not wasted enough money. The actual gameplay is ok, but there is no excuse for releasing a game that looks and plays exactly the same as MW2. Do your job and develop Activision, there is no 'development' here.

This game is literally starting to look like a copy and paste job, with very minor visual and audio upgrades and a few changes to kill streaks you would be forgive for otherwise thinking you already own this game, even the menus are just copied and pasted from previous titles. This game is not worth $60 in my opinion, either rent it first to see if you like it or find a used copy.

If you have just started playing call of duty and by this I'm assuming the last and only COD game you've owned and played is Black ops, then you will enjoy this game. A greater balance is achieved between weapons and kill streaks giving players a much more leveled playing field. The game contains "epic" set pieces that will make you feel like you're in a Micheal Bay movie with tons of explosions and bullets flying by.

I laugh at the critic who gives this terrible repackaging of a game the 100. I don't understand why true diehard fans even like this, it's a map pack that costs $60! And what is this other stupid service, ANOTHER $50? Are you kidding me Activision? I see you're trying way too hard to milk the consumers of everything. Greedy company + repackaged game = 0. Waste of time.

I think there is a general trend of people hating on this game. Sure, it's not perfect, and its not as revolutionary as previous titles. It has become, once again, like the Pro Evos and Fifas of First Person Shooters. I personally have only played the first 36% of the campaign and found it as average as the last games, but where it really shines is its Online Multiplayer and Special Ops. Special Ops has an option of two modes, Survival and Missions. The missions are an arcade-esque version of the game and are fairly engaging. Survival, however, is the cream of the crop. I always found the Zombie modes of previous COD titles exciting, but there was no real strategic element or tactics other than 'lapping.' Survival brings these missing elements from Zombies and creates a great challenge that will constantly keep you coming back for more. The Online multiplayer has taken a fair amount of stick but seriously, what were people expecting? They have incorporated the best of all the previous titles and presented it in a way that is not at all different to previous episodes. People complain about the maps, and the guns; but really 16 interesting and different maps, varying in size, environment, and combat style make for an exciting experiences. They included the split screen online multiplayer as well. In summary, a great game. Not the revolution some people where expecting, but certainly worth buying if youre a fan of the series. And a passing thought, if you're playing Online and are getting 0kills 10deaths or a score as absymal as that, theres no excuse other than you're s***! remember the story of the poor carpenter?

Same game, different name. Its pathetic that the industry continues to support this series, and Infinity Ward. The same content every year with different skins, and a map pack worth of maps.

This game is just a re-hash of the MW2. Utter piece of crap, typical Activision, greedy. There is no change. Yet the drones will buy in millions. Dont get the fan following of this stupid game. Bf3 aint so hot either, but far better than this.

modern warfare 3 is more of a twisted version of mw2 and black ops combined from multiplayer aspect. For campaign it gives you a visual treat with buildings collapsing to trains derailing.. but for a franchise whose sole is relying on multiplayer i would still say mw3 hasn't achieved its mark to call it a the game of 2011. There is no NEW element in the game except for kill confirmed.

The 2 head developers for Infinity Ward left. So you have the 2 key people developing your game and they leave so if you were Activision, what would you do? Do you get a new team (Sledgehammer) and rush to create a brand new game from scratch and HOPEFULLY keep everyone happy? Or, do you go the safe route and try to recreate the greatness from the last game, with a few tweaks here and there to make people at least a little happy? When you have almost 2 hundred million dollars in projected sales on the line and a possible billions invested in future titles, you take the safe route. Now, told start freaking out saying I'm wrong and whatever. I AGREE that the multiplayer is bad. I have had lots of lag issues and overpowering of the hosts and etc. I AGREE Elite (as of right now) is worthless. I AGREE that the campaign is Hollywood blockbuster style. (I havn't touched Spec Ops so I cant judge that) But here is the thing, all and all its not a 0 out of 10. A 0 is ET for NES. The multiplayer will surely have 20 thousand patches like every other Call of Duty and there will always be bugs. But in the end, we can't go back to Black Ops because its probably gonna be hacked to crap soon cause no one is monitoring it anymore. You could go to Battlefield but I hate vehicles. So you have 2 options, enjoy MW3 until White Ops or whatever the next one from Treyarch will be, or till Respawn Studios (The 2 guys who left Infinity Ward) make there new game. Or you can broaden your game interests to other great games like Uncharted 3 and Batman Arkham City for PS3 or Gears 3 and Skyrim for XBOX360. All and all its not great..but we are all gonna play it and are probably have 2 Prestige's under your belt. Expand

A pathetic attempt to con gamers into paying money for the same old hallow schlock. A soulless, artless, interactive cut scene celebrating jock bravado not worthy of release. I hate this game, and I sure as hell hate the people who play it incessantly. COD fans make the world a worse place to live in.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being a Call of Duty fan since Activision release Call of Duty: Finest Hour, I can say that Modern Warfare 3 disappointed me. I thought it bring back the glory of Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, but it didn't pan out that way. For starters, it really irked me that they killed off Soap after he just survived a knife to the chest, I would have rather it have been Price and Soap finishing off Makarov then Price and the useless character Yuri, who dies at the end anyways. The multiplayer is teeter totters between horrible and good, its not unplayable but the game lacks the gun game Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games kept badgering at. The player speed even with extreme conditioning is really slow, I don't even think that any of the previous Call of Duty titles were as slow as this game. Being as slow as it is, the guns can kill you faster than a speeding bullet. I would be fine with the guns being as powerful as they are if it wasn't for the lack of speed where you can't escape the gun fire. The multiplayer maps are by far the worst i have seen in a Call of Duty game, they are claustrophobic and leave little room to maneuver. The one shining light is that the spec ops is impeccable. The missions are pretty varied and fun with a friend and the survival mode is also enjoyable although i don't know why the developers wouldn't have made it four players instead of two. While this game isn't bad, it could have been great, instead you get a game that tries to be what the original Call of Duty 4 was except that it failed by using small and cramped maps and slow movement. Fanstastic game. This is definitely the game that I've spent many days (or weeks or even months) of my life playing. I first started playing the COD series at MW2, which I bought randomly. There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
