    Maps:

Black Ops comes with 12 maps that vary in size and shape. Some maps have wide open vistas with a few buildings for close quarters. Other maps are condensed and smaller. There are a few medium sized maps as well. The maps tend to suit all play styles with close quarter areas, and long range sniping grounds, as well as medium range assault rifle locales.

Modern Warfare 3 comes with 16 maps that are cramped and claustrophobic and labyrinthine. There are some occasional medium range areas. There is no real place to camp or take a breather. The maps tend to be rewarding to the run and gun play style, while punishing the cautious and camp styles. Guns: The guns in Black Ops have differences. While there are a handful of guns that are best for most situations, any decent player can excel with any of the guns available. For long and medium range shooting, controlling the recoil is key to successfully hitting the target. The guns of Modern Warfare 3 have almost no recoil. You can aim a gun at an enemy and fire full auto without any problems. Also the maps are close quarters, so you wouldnâ

This game is clearly going to be like MW2 because of the massive interest shown in MW2 - why would the designers change anything when people clearly like what it involves. Also judging from the thousands of people playing online right now proves that people do actually like this game!

It maybe not be the greatest shooter ever and it really hasn't changed the game play at all but it has improved little things such as hit detection, balance of weapons and kill streaks and has even attempted to add totally new game mode types. The menu set up is clean and user friendly which is great considering Black Ops' was a mess. The story mode is also rewarding to those who actually paid attention to the earlier modern warfare games, and it flows together unlike MW2's story. MW3 is the 4th CoD I've played, and it may just be the last. Like many, I thought the best version of CoD was MW1, and it's been downhill from there. As many have said, it is little more than a map pack for MW2, and the maps themselves are pretty poor. The franchise has gotten away from emphasizing skill, to making the game easy for even the most casual gamer, and dressing it up with bells and whistles that will mostly appeal to maladjusted teenage virgins. All in all as a fan of the series for the most part, I'm very disappointed that once again the marketing hype far exceeds the quality of the product, and in the end it's just more of the same tired old game that I've been playing since MW2. To add insult to injury, the game lacks many of the good design points of Black Ops, and the menus are cluttered, server matching is terrible, and the voice and sound are appalling. Major fail, but no doubt the hype machine will ensure all sales records are broken and next time we can expect a further watered-down FPS experience too. I'm just one guy, but I'm done with MW3 and have picked up a copy of Battlefield 3 instead. After about 13 hours of play, I can honestly say it's superior in every way to MW3, for anyone that has a recent level of skill. If you want ez-mode and only play a few hours a week, then MW3 will probably suit you just fine. Expand

Based on loving MW2 i decided i would basically eat bread and water for a week and not care because i would love MW3 so much. Based on IGN and many publisher reviews of 9.5's and even 10's (which were criminal looking back), i spent what little money i had $70 to buy the game. After 1hr i realized something was wrong, did i reinsert the MW2 disc or even COD1 by accident. It felt like i was playing an old game. It was then and only then (after launch) i found out it was using the same engine from a game that came out in 2002. Never before in gamming history have a seen a title regress from it's predecessor. MW3 and IGN owe the gaming community an apology as well as their $70 back. Shame on all the "paid off" critics for 9.5's and 10's they should be investigated and criminally charged for fraud and false advertisement. When you buy something new it's suppose to be new. If i bought a 2011 car i wouldn't be happy if they threw in the engine of an older model. ZERO Expand

I am not a "troll" and have been a huge fan of the series since the first Modern Warfare title, and for the record, I am not a fan of the Battlefield series. Like most fans, I was excited when the first spoilers were being released for the new game. "How will they top the brilliant Airport scenario from MW2?" "What will happen to Soap?" "What new destinations and guns will they introduce?" "Will they develop a new engine to meet the demands of the graphical and game play enhancements they will so obviously make?" The months rolled by and small tidbits were leaked to us fans, and although many of us were worried that, perhaps, the shift and changes made at Infinity Ward may affect the final product, we never gave up hope that it would be a good game. After all, anything would be better than the below average single player, poor in-game physics offering of Black Ops. That game, as well as this one, would only be compared to the best in the series: Modern Warfare 2. Surely, then, seeing as the last Call of Duty game made steps forward in the industry that the latest addition would do the same? No. The fact of the matter is this game is so bad it makes me want to play Black Ops, and I recall thinking to myself (as I unwrapped and gleamed with joy at the chance of playing MW3) "I'd rather take a cheese grater to my scrotum that have to play Black Ops again". This will be painful.

Mr Schofield, why are the graphics so poor compared to EAâ

I suggest everyone who has not purchased MWF3 to wait. Wait until the game is readily available used, at this point the price will not be too different, but ACTIVISION will not have sold us a NEW copy of the game, we will just circulate the current copies. Spec Ops is Modern Warfare 3's strong point. Survival mode is probably the best addition to modern warfare since the franchise started, and while many people say it's "copying" GOW or Zombies, it's still fun! They took a few things from those games and made a fun mode out of it. The missions are what you'd expect, exactly like the modern warfare 2 ones, but they're fun enough to not drag down Survival.

Multiplayer is a failure. Unfortunately it seems that Sledgehammer couldn't develop their own game. They took so many elements from Modern Warfare 2 that it seems that multiplayer is just a bad DLC for MW2. The maps are flat, boring, and encourage sprinting-and-shooting that turned off many gamers from MW2. The guns are well balanced and although Assault Rifles yet again dominate the battlefield, they offer enough variety to be tolerable. Overall, MW3 isn't much to get hyped over, and definitely doesn't deserve it's record-setting performance, but it is a COD game, and no COD is complete without SOME way of stealing hours.

First of is the single player which is the shortest one yet, but its quality over quanity. If you like Michale Bay movies, and could give two rats ass about story telling this is for you. I have been playing all morning, and all I can say the single player makes you feel like a total bad ass and it takes no prisoners doing so. The visuals, sound, and ammount of content is epic. Spec Ops, is the best part of the game but will be probably the least played of the bunch. If you got a buddy to play with this is really a challange, and will put your skills to the test if you are willing to get a 100% in them Multiplayer has grown up a lot, and while not on the same size scale as BF3 it offers a different flavor of it. I am not very good at COD MP, but with the support class I given slack for sucking, but rewarded for supporting. That single featuer alone is sensational. I am very please with it, and the fact that you can custom tailor the guns to your liking is awsome. COD:MW3 is worth your money, and I really have no clue why all the negative reivews. I own both BF3 and MW3, and I can not say that I like one more over the other, but I can say that I play as of right now MW3 more because it is refined, no cashing, freezing, or funky glitches in the game.â Expand

I've played every Call of Duty game since it was created to compete with Medal of Honor in the WWII days. Not many people remember those days as most gamers who play these games are technically too young to play them. The score on this website is being abused. This game is solid and the franchise is successful for a reason. FPS in general are very hard to "innovate" so everyone quit your whining. They're all very similar! Expand

Who wants a new game-play experience when you can hide behind your franchise name and dupe millions into buying a two-year-old sans a few tweaks? Let the sales do the talking; let the sales do the guiding. Those green-colored glasses will surely help you develop the next sixty dollar map pack.

All sarcasm aside, it sickens me as a gaming connoisseur that a company can beat a dead horse and flee the scene with millions of dollars. Those millions of dollars would be better off in the hands of developers who actually know what they are doing. Shame on Activision, and shame on all of the people who think that this game is worth anything more than the series' previous iterations.

This Game is like a joke. You have to wait like 15 min to join a Lobby. And sometimes it kicks you out right before the game starts and you can wait another 15 mins to join next Lobby. Before the game ends i get "out of memory" very often and get kicked out of the lobby and the party. all the points i´ve made are gone.
Maps are so small that you can get a kill after 3 steps.

I was very disappointed with this game. The campaign is only 3 hours long and the story isn't very impressive. No amount of set pieces can make up for it. The graphics are showing their age. The multiplayer isn't any different from MW2 and they even reused textures and sounds. Looks almost identical.

I have to disagree that its in protest because its the same game and we wanted something completely different. The reason I do not like MW3 as much as any other COD title is because it didn't progress in development. They made the same mistakes during release, they didn't use what they have learned from the other games at all, and most of all even though MW2 was overall better than black ops (in how polished it was and the story) black ops still had evolved over previous versions, I didn't feel like I went backwards. MW3 uses the same game engine from 2 years ago the same exploits that were FIXED in black ops are back again. Also the maps are no where near as fun as previous games, there is no tiny map (rush, nuketown) and no really big map which are generally the stand out maps in the games that everyone always votes to play. When asked to vote for a map in this game, I don't as they are all the same and there is very little variety between the current maps offered in the game. Expand

Hello. I signed up to Metacritic thanks to Sledgehammer's developer Glen Schofield and his infamous tweet about the low user score on Metacritic for MW2. Well Glen... here is the thing... there is a simple rule: if You rip someone of for 60$ You should at least get a smack on the face and not a pat on the back. I'm a CoD fan from the beginning. I own every installation - maybe besides CoDHello. I own every installation - maybe besides CoD 3 - and I'm sorry to say that, but MW3 is truly the biggest rip off of the year. I don't really care for the campaign. I can't see no fun in a 5 hour bot shooting fiesta with a slapstick story, so I'm just going to stick to the MP.

I didn't really expect much from the MP. Maybe some changing environments, some new interesting toys. But no... Sledgehammer changed almost nothing. This is the same game as MW2! Like someone said before: it all feels like a really expensive DLC for MW2! I mean, come on... You didn't even make an effort to make the maps interesting (take a look at Launch from Black Ops and the rocket launch or Moon - IMO changing environments rock). The guns? Almost the same. Upgrade system? Basically the same. Game modes? The same. Oops... sorry... You have added one of the dumbest things I have played lately "Kill Confirmed". I know it's "new and fresh" but why the hell did you put it as part of Ground War? It only forces me to change the lobby every time this mode starts. And there is Elite... You know what? That is the part where You have been most innovative and what happens? You charge me another 50$ for an annual subscription. At this moment I'm restraining myself not to call you names. I believe as an owner of al Your games I should be let in for free, but that is just my opinion. I really thought that You care for your fans, but instead you charge them extra because You know they will want to be part of Elite.

To summarise... I'm no hater, but You have failed me Glen. You have played it safe. MW2 was good but playing it safe with MW3 makes it mediocre and charging 60$ for a DLC... well, that is just low... real low. Battlefield 3 may not be the game of the year, but at least it has moved a bit forward. So a smack on the face for You Sledgehammer for ripping me off and a kick to the butt for making me pay for Elite. I give a 3. It may not be the most honest score (I was thinking of giving You a 4 or 5) but You deserve it. That 60$ could have gone somewhere else.

I can't descrive how call of duty kill the videogame industry. Masterpieces go to hell with american marines year by year. the poor lesson of all of this is that other companies want to make a game like this, and that's very sad.. and people buy it like sheeps. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is certainty not among those. It is, simply put, a Call of Duty game. It is a step up from Modern Warfare 2 EASILY, and a step up from Black Ops in many ways. The Single-Player Campaign is a conclusion to the Modern Warfare Series, and is quite satisfying all things considered. It's a First Person Shooter, and I got what I wanted out of it.

The Multiplayer is where many people seem to have a debate. I found it to be of high quality, if quite similar to Modern Warfare 2. It 'IS' infact a Call of Duty game, so it is understandable that it would follow the same formula as the previous ones. It added a few new features, and some new game modes, as well as a new coat of paint.

All-in-all, I do not feel cheated. I do not believe that it is "Modern Warfare 2.5." I believe that it is MW3, and that it is a fun game, and worth picking up to anyone who enjoyed Modern Warfare 2.

It is a successor to the MW story line, gameplay expereince and everything else that was an integral part of the original MW that took everyone by surprise and knocked their socks off. The next game they make, having concluded this trilogy, will be the different, brand spankin' new experience that everyone seems to be craving. But for what it is meant to be, MW3 is bloody brilliant! And It is the familiarity that makes it so, you know what you are getting into, you are already good at it, and with all the new players coming over to the game you will have plenty of noobs to pick on in multiplayer and plenty of veterans to give you a tough time. You can complain all you want, and technically BF3 my even be the better game, but as far as instantly accessible, raucous, addictive, long lasting and uncomplicated joy goes, MW3 and in fact the entire MW series wins hands down. What makes it worth the 60 bucks entry fee is the fact that one year later you will still be playing it, prestiging the hell out of your avatar and getting your adrenaline rush as and when you need it. Add to that an epic story executed like a summer block buster that actually makes you give a damn about the character you are supposed to be even if its so short that it serves primarily as a training camp for your MP exploits is a recipe for success that Activision well know how to whip together. I got the hardened edition and all connectivity issues aside, and despite the fact that theres a boat load of great titles coming out alongside MW3, i know i got my money's worth because this will be the only game i will still be playing next november when another COD game comes out. No offense to anyone, this really is a matter of personal preference but instead of dissing the game try to see it as what it was meant to be. Expand

Multiplayer is obviously why 98% of people buy these games, and alas there is where my complaints are. For one, the maps seem smaller than in previous games and loaded with barriers and objects meant to make you really weave through the map. This creates a very frantic pace for the gameplay and leads to a lot of surprise gunfights and less strategical wars.

Furthermore, my biggest complaint for this game is with the spawn system. I've already been spawned dozens of times IN the middle of the screen of the enemy who just killed me. This leads them, as they're often camping, to kill me instantly before I can even move. I can almost watch myself get killed twice in the replay, it's that ridiculous. They really need to tweak the spawning system in a patch because getting killed upon spawning (which happened to me five times in one nine-minute game) makes you just want to throw down the controller and find something else to do. This has never been a huge problem in the other games in the series, so I don't know why it's so prevalent now.

Having finished up the campaign I dove straight into the multiplayer, oh how sadly disappointing this was! As I loaded in to the first map, it became apparent this was going to be a spray n pray affair. Tight alleys blind corners and absolutely nowhere to set up with a sniper rifle, so fine me thinks it's only the first map I was convinced that there was going to be a few I liked out of the 16 or so on offer. Oh how wrong can you be! It soon became apparent that not only the first map I tried was a Rambo style frag fest full of getting shot in the back or knifed going round a corner, but all of them were. let's talk about story ! it's not like HALO ! so you'll not face a large amount of informations in 2 hours and say Wow it's epic !
it's not like BF3 that put you in the story that you've seen it 1000 time before !
it's Modern Warfare so you'll see real places , real people , real politics and of course real characters ! the plot is the same as Modern Warfare 1 and 2 but the difference is Revelations and characters endings .
let's talk about gameplay ! just like MW1 & MW2 gameplay is where this game beat its rival . fast action gameplay that increase adrenaline alongside with cinematic scenes will satisfy you of spending 60 $ for this game !
sounds and musics are brilliant and i can't say anything bad about them !
graphics are good enough for a 2011 released game and have many improvements from Modern Warfare 2 and 60fps is where this game is beat its rival in graphics (on consoles) .
multiplayer is the best in series so you can finish the story mode in 5 hours and go for multiplayer ! but you have my word , you can't finish multiplayer even in 500 hours ! it's Call Of Duty ! there is no need to say every part is at it's best like maps , perks , modes , weapon customize ...
at last i can say there are many games out there but there are a few perfect games so don't spend 60 $ for the first game you'll see in the markets !
Modern Warfare 3 is the best FPS in 2011 , no doubt . but i think it's the best FPS ever !

Great game! I bought BF3 on launch, and I loved it. Then when MW3 came out, I decided to go buy it, I was not disappointed! Keep in mind this is the first Modern Warfare game I have purchased. The campaign was amazing, online is spectacular, and spec ops is sweet, especially survival mode.

First I would like to point out that in no way is this game innovative, but to call this game mw 2.5 or 1.3 is a rash, bold, and incorrect statement. Anyway, i digress to my actual review of this game. I will be breaking this down into the three categories Infinity Ward has given us, as well as certain criteria people expect from a review such as graphics, game play, etc.

Anyway, i digress to my actual review of this game. I will be breaking this down into the three categories Infinity Ward has given us, as well as certain criteria people expect from a review such as graphics, game play, etc.

The first portion every person should go through (or at least the one I always start with in every new cod title) is the single player campaign. This campaign is fantastic in every sense, though a bit short. But this complaint is a small one considering I blasted through the main story line in about 4.5 hours on regular difficulty. But its length really isn't a flaw if you consider that a game that looks for the biggest adrenaline fill it can possibly dish out, while at the same time trying to not be numbing to the player. This campaign finally wraps up the storyline in a very meaningful and conclusive way and its a blast getting there.

Then comes the return of spec ops, which I enjoy substantially more than Nazi zombies (sorry zombies have become been there done that in our culture, only thing i enjoy with zombies anymore is the walking dead). Anyway I can't wait to be able to play with mode properly with a friend instead of getting paired with some moron online. In addition, a second game type has been added to spec ops which is called survivor. Survivor is more or less the COD take on horde mode from the gears of war series, and it works really well here, though admittedly I do find myself getting bored after one of two rounds.

And finally the monster that is the cod multiplayer. People who hate on it will continue to hate and people that love the fast paced gun on gun arcade style shooter will continue to love it. There is nothing innovative from the (and I don't know why people forget this) original innovation, but it still works great and now with no commando or one man army nube tubes, the multiplayer brings cod into a new world of people complain but not all about the same thing. I will be the first to admit that there are some guns that are slightly overpowered, such as the type 95 or the much hated ump45, but I'm not nearly as annoyed with these weapons as I was with certain weapons from previous cod titles. Overall, I'm having a blast with the multiplayer and anyone who isn't, probably sucks at it (I'm a firm believer that anyone who **** about cod should be forced to post their k/d ratio, so at least we know why).

To wrap things up I'll briefly go over the specs of the game. Are the graphics innovative? No. But they looked damn good, nearly photo-realism, 5 years ago and they still do. Any game that can run at 60 frames per second while having so much crap going on in the background and look this good ON A SIX YEAR OLD CONSOLE, is doing something right in my book. The controls are as tight and responsive as one should expect from a cod game, thatâ

Having a year to make things better, storyline and multiplayer, it doesn't seem like it was upgraded at all. They didn't start from scratch but from a template of the past games and modifying it thinking that people wouldn't notice. It appears to me that the game wasn't given enough effort to be produced. The overall game is alright. The story was fine even though I got pretty bored after a couple missions. May I also mention that even on Veteran, it was easier in this game than in the past Modern Warfares, namely the first one. The multiplayer was crazy in a way that the whole map is like a maze. You move a few steps and there are 4 paths to choose from. The graphics are slightly better but if you are one to compare to another fps that came out recently, it isn't as great. This CoD game was made to make people play and enjoy due to the way the developers decided to make things more even, especially to those that are new to the game and not good at playing it. Overall, the game has not been improved much from its predecessors. The weapons, perks, the kills, the graphics, and even the maps. Really? Maps being reused? Seriously now, at least improve the reused maps. Make it better. Expand

It's so funny how much free time adolescent kids have where they can go out of their way to create accounts with multiple websites just so they can leave negative review scores of 0. I can't understand the world truly. I mean really, it baffles me sometimes just how ignorant people can be. Additionally what is also baffling is the fact that so many underage people are talking about MW3 and Battlefield 3. You shouldn't be able to grab ahold of these games to begin with. But as the way of the world your sh*t parents don't care about what you're into anyways and will be the ones ultimately buying these games for you.

Go ahead and fuel my fire, I don't care. Go ahead and say my review isn't helpful, I don't care. I'll be the first though to say this game is awesome. Prior to buying this game I did buy (and I do own) Battlefield 3. [You see when you are not a child dependent on your parents income to buy your entertainment, you can buy both games and actually "really" play them on day 1] So after buying into EA's deceptive great marketing ploy I was so convinced B3 would be a great game, even coming from a COD fan. I think competition is healthy and I am willing to play whatever is good, as simple as that. B3 looked so good to begin with, then the beta left a bad taste in my mouth and left me wondering was it all just hype? I changed my mind from instant buy to maybe. Then the reviews came out and declared it a good game, all the bugs had been fixed, the game had been balanced and polished. True it has, but really what I still discovered is that mostly the game is hype and the reviews seem to be generously giving it higher scores than deserved. In short I'll be honest and straight to the point. Although B3 is just an alright title, it is nothing to write home about. I find it to be a bit dull and boring, the controls are nice but not as tight as a Modern Warfare title, and the graphics (console versions) are actually ugly. A majority of the gaming community worldwide play games on consoles, this is how the majority experience their games, and sadly the majority will experience some suckage. I would even say on consoles (I'm playing on PS3) that it doesn't even look better than Modern Warfare 2. I'm having a hard time having fun with it and after the jet level where you take off from the aircraft carrier I haven't picked up and continued from there yet.

Now I am on Modern Warfare 3 and this game is gorgeous, the controls are tight, it is fast paced, and the most important thing is that it is fun and entertaining. A step above B3 in every department. To say it is just recycled whatever from Modern Warfare 2 is an ignorant claim and statement to make, it is not. People are just trying to make a case to give reason to hate this game. No one complains about Halo, Gears of War, Uncharted, GTA, and a plethora of hundreds of other good games recycling engines, but when COD does it, it is bad. If it isn't broke why fix it? Just tweak it to make it better, which is exactly what was done. Right from the start being in the first (Manhattan) level and going through the city streets and into the NYSE it looked downright gorgeous. I never seen any of those buildings, set pieces, debris and furniture rendered in other COD games before, so how is it recycled? Just ignorant talk is all. Going right into the second level breaching a submarine and surfacing up on the NYC coastline again this game looks amazing.

The honest reason why people have so much time to bash this game for is because their game B3 already came out, they played it and found it boring just as I did, but they don't want to say it or show it. So instead of spending time to play their game they substitute hitting review sites, and bringing the score way down and constitute that as having a good time instead. Well have fun doing that, this game will probably go on to be the number 1 selling video game of all-time with or without your 0's. I laugh at you and I laugh at your stupidity. So mind boggling how stupid people can be really, all I can hope for is God coming down to end the world sooner rather than later, because mankind needs help, fast!

OR People who "loved" the Characters will never see them again. This is STUPIDITY. It is not a sequel to "Call of Duty" Generally, but to "Modern Warfare" series.. The graphics are GREAT.. But BattleFAILED's new Engine -Frostbite 2- made it a bad Graphically game?
Robert Bowling said this "We have no time to create a new engine to fit the game.. so we have to work on the previous one" We will be insane people if we compared MW3's -or any Modern Warfare's"- campaign to BF3 -or any BF-... Self-evident MW win.. but we can stil compare the "Graphics" which make Battlefailed 3 "a good" game.
We can compare their Multiplaye Mod as well.. they both have excellent multiplayer.. BUT.. there's no Spec OPS in BF3.. so Battlefailed "3" beats MW3 because of the Graphics.. That's **** !!!!

There's an old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." That's generally good advice, but it doesn't mean you get to call something "new" when it's obviously quite old and showing. In an industry as competitive as entertainment software, it's hard to imagine that the people at Activision and Infinity Ward could feel proud of a product that (by their own admission) recycles the very same technology from the last game in the series.

It goes without saying that Activision has surrendered any notion of "value" and "quality" to Electronic Arts and the "Battlefield" series!

Modern Warfare 3 does not bring anything new to the table. If you have played any of the previous COD games, you know what to expect, huge set pieces, and intense action. The story is still more miss then hit but it is the strongest story in the COD series to date.

The action is fast, and the level ups and new perks will keep anyone hooked for months. I am still not personally sold on the elite membership, but time will tell if it works like it is supposed to.

One item of note, do not accept all the negative reviews. Try it for yourself.

Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward have made by far the BEST multi-player experience ever in a Call of Duty game, maybe even ever.

Unlike the past two Call of Duty games (MW2, and BOPS), this game is unbelieveable balanced and fair. I would even dare to say that this game challenges the balance seen in Call of Duty 4, if not even more balanced than CoD4. The multiplayer has been refined to

The multiplayer has been refined to the limit. All the people complaining about new features need to grow up. Just because this game doesn't feature new pro-pro-pro perks and is fair and that you are now forced to run around and leave your lonely corner. Just because you cant shoot people in 2 bullets and because your were amazing at a game that was unbalanced, and you suck now, means you need to adapt.

Besides my rant on the ranters, I would like to point out that the new Survival mode is a TREAT. It needs refinement in the future, but it is a terrific start to an amazing mode. It definitely challenges Zombies mode, and in my opinion beats it in terms of fun.

Lets face it. Waves are better than rounds.

Modern Warfare 3 has an unbelievable multiplayer, Spec-Ops, and Survival mode. Campaign is weak, but is a great addition.

In the past, we used to buy games for a decent multiplayer. Now, I buy Call of Duty for a great multiplayer and a decent campaign.

    Presentation: 9.5/10
    Story: 7.5/10
    Gameplay: 10/10
    Multiplayer: 11/10
    Lasting Appeal: 10/10
    Overall: 9.6/10

Sure, campaign is weak, graphics haven't really improved, but who cares? This is by far the most fun i've EVER had playing a game. I will be playing this game for months. Survival mode gave it that kick that it really needed for a good review. IW and Sledge, dont be upset. Next time around (MW4) people will have adapted to the game style presented in MW3, and you will be amazed by the reception in the future.

I have yet to dip into the campaign but the multiplayer is just an update for MW2. Nothing really new except the maps (which aren't that great) and maybe a few tweeks to the guns. Quickscoping try-hards are back which isn't too surprising since IW caters to YouTube commentators. So dissappointed in this game. I look forward to Treyarchs game since they at least are innovative in their games.

60 Euros map pack? It's time to make a stand and say to being exploited by these damn huge gaming corporations that took the fun out of our games and make them into cash grabbing schemes. Most worthless game out there and it's pretty clear by this point that all media taking covering this game got payed big money to cover for it's HUGE flaws.

I don't get all the negative user reviews. Is every employee at EA required to log in and trash this game before going home for the weekend?
I am more interested in the Campaign's story with these games than with Multiplayer - so based on that, this game was worth the price. AND I will gladly spend another $60 on the next game in the series. I like the new formula seen in this trilogy and

I am more interested in the Campaign's story with these games than with Multiplayer - so based on that, this game was worth the price. AND I will gladly spend another $60 on the next game in the series. I like the new formula seen in this trilogy and Black Ops with compelling story and great/crazy level design. I hope they keep doing it, and pray these idiots (bad reviewers) don't screw it up.
Story-wise, MW3 finishes out the trilogy well enough. I didn't find the story as epic as MW2 (D.C. and White House), but MW3 did have improved graphics and some great level design (Paris). In MW3, the graphics are better and I don't know how else to explain it, but shooting felt heavier, or grittier.
MW3 does feel like MW2, and it's supposed to. I think a lot of peoples problem with the game is actually that they have finished out the major story line. In MW1 & 2 they were setting up a great story with twists and WTF-moments, but in MW3 they chose to tie up loose ends and end the trilogy. So MW3 doesn't have the cliff hanger ending of MW1 & 2. So what. Just give me a new trilogy (MW 4,5,6) and a Black Ops 2 or spin off.

Personally i feel the maps are a disappointment on multiplayer. Mostly due to the locations chosen. There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.

By sticking to the series' strengths, Modern Warfare 3 delivers some of the best competitive, cooperate, and single-player shooting in the business.

As a complete package, Modern Warfare 3 takes the cake. [Jan 2012, p.67]
