This is the purest form of Modern Warfare. The one we've been waiting for. Here's why. First off it's smooth. Super smooth, a 60 frames per second makes this game look crystal clear. Super smooth, a 60 frames per second makes this game look crystal clear. A little sharper graphics, that are tough to spot at first, but once you see the first car explode you will know exactly what I mean. Buildings collapse when you hit them with a missile from the chopper, balconies collapse when you man the mini-gun. The water looks real, trees and grass blow as a storm approaches, and I actually stopped more than once to look around at the sky and the sunset. It was that beautiful. Bigger scale. MW was about a few guys in Russia, MW2 was about defending the eastern states in the U.S. MW3 is about the entire world under attack. And you feel it. Cool set pieces for firefights that are multi-level transitional. Not just where you've got guys on the second story (and stay there) and guys down low (and stay there) you've got people running up and down stairs using the environment. One time i saw an enemy running towards me, and I was thinking "what an idiot this dude's gonna get shot in the face, stupid A.I.," only to see him actually running up to a car, he opens the car door, and hides behind it! I was blown away. A beef i had with Black Ops was that sometimes it felt like a shooting gallery. You would walk forward it would "trigger" the enemy spawn, they line up in a row, and you kill 'em, and move on. But here i felt like there are people everywhere and all the time! And there's always this rushed feeling of progression, where if you try to camp and kill everybody someone yells, "C'mon we gotta keep moving!" So you didn't feel like you had to kill everyone, but that the mission was more important. A major improvement is the feel and sounds of the guns. They feel great, and I can't tell if it's extra vibration in the controller or what, but it's different. It's crisp. I love breach scenes. i swear I'd buy a game where all you do it breach every room. Now before you declare me a CoD fanboy, remember, this is all just the campaign I've been talking about! I haven't even touched the multiplayer or the special ops missions/survival. Those are what will ensure that you will never need to ditch the game just because the campaign is over. This game is loaded and if you can put aside the "it's cool to hate on modern warfare" fad that seems to be all the rage, you'll be blown away at this masterpiece. I love Modern Warfare 3 and I don't care who knows it. P.S. Airplane level FTW! Expand

Look at COD 3, look at COD4.

Do the same thing with COD4 and MW3.

Compare the differences between both pairs of games. There is a HUGE AMOUNT of difference between cod3 and cod4, but barely any difference between cod4 and mw3. They have 4 games worth of changes and it still didn't amount to the huge amount of changes between cod3 and cod4. Do something like that, Infinity Ward, or Treyarch. This game is only good if you have never played any of the Call of Duty games before, otherwise IT IS THE SAME EXACT THING with about 6 changes. They even took buildings straight out of Call of Duty 4 instead of making new ones. It is an absolutely awful and cheap game that the developers probably spent about 1 week of their time on in the whole 2 years that they had to work on the game. The worst part about the game though, is the super crazy cod community who thinks that there is nothing better than cod, and they have no variety. It isn't just in video games either, these people are never trying anything new, they are the ones who complain about everyday things like food because they never try anything new. The worst part about these people is that they actually try to argue that this game is better than BF3. In some areas, yes, but overall BF3 is indefinitely and quite obviously the SUPERIOR game. I have played cod for a long time, but recently it has just been boring playing the same game over and over again, so I switched to Battlefield, and even BFBC2 is better than MW3. Don't waste your money, and don't pay attention to critic reviews, the good ones are all bought and paid for. This game is the same crud rehashed over and over again. I bet the developers didn't spend one week on this, maybe on the maps and re-skinning guns that they have probably had since MW2 but didn't put them in that because they decided they could make another game with it. Whether you like it or not, this game is going to get SUPER boring SUPER fast. I hope that this is the call of duty game where developers realize they can't be lazy, I hope the next cod game is as exciting as COD4, but... unfortunately, it probably won't. Hopefully this is the end of lazy work or the end of the Call of Duty series because as far as I'm concerned different people are getting credit for something done 4 years ago.

This game is horrible, you cant even create ranked custom games so that you can farm xp with your friends then be 12 years old and camp in corners and just win all day. How dumb. Also guys have guns and shoot at you, I need a game where the other players can't shoot back because I'm pretty bad.

My thirteen, that's right, THIRTEEN year old brother described this game as "Modern Warfare 2.5" as it brings almost nothing new to the table, yet sports a $60 pricetag. I myself grew weary of the series around MW2, so I did not purchase it, however watching my little brother play, I can confirm it looks EXACTLY like MW2.
Not worth your money, stay away.

I love it ! Its exactly what you expect after MW2. I only buy the IW Titles, and this one never let me down. My friends and i playing the MP for hours and its even more fun than the campaign. The only complain is, there is no Hans Zimmer music... Hope that MW4 will have Hans back!

You remove the only improvement that had been done since MW, diving to lie on the floor.

Hum, i am a soldier, i have a sniper in the hands of 10-12 kg and 20 kg of kit in the back, but i make a 360° and i kill an enemy without aiming ! Wow the quick-scope and this lightness, what realism !

Really this game is Moder Warfere "3"; I cant believe its another game. It feels too much like MW2 DLC. The gameplay is equal, the history is very "cliche" and predictable, and the multiplayer is the same of the last 4 games... really? I think this "Call of Duty" will die like "Guitar Hero". I will save in my memory CoD 2 and 4. The others are only DLCs with a full-game cost.

So what did they do ? Change as little as possible so people don't get scared off, but enough to keep people motivated to play. After Modern Warfare, with the release of Modern Warfare 2, i thought - Yeah that's as far as it should go - but along came Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. And "nothing" has changed, and by nothing i mean nothing fundamental, because that, again, would be too much of a risk. If you played Call of Duty the last years, this episode won't give you any kicks, same old formula in the campaign, same old formula in the multiplayer, same old engine, and that's getting old. Battlefield 3 on the other hand, even through its flaws, seems much more refreshing and appealing. It doesn't bore me, because i haven't been playing Battlefield 3 for ages. It's nothing but a contest to see who can shoot first (with most primary weapons being 1-2 shot kills), and whomever can sit back,. camp, and run up a killstreak to do all the work for them. I've always been a CoD player, but you won't catch me playing this game any more. Shame on me for buying it. Expand

Let me just put it this way if you have to beg your fans to give you a good review you did not produce a quality product. Because MW3 is just a ever so slightly updated version of MW3. Almost everything is exactly the same as MW2 sounds, weapons, features, And absolutely nothing new was brought to the franchise or the genre with the release of this title. I find this disappointing as I have had fun with the previous titles, but I have those titles still and didn't need a rehashed version of them.

Obviously the CoD formula has worked for them in the past but I feel that after so many years with no real innovation coming out of Infinity ward, it is time for them to move on and take a chance. Sure they are probably going to make a ton of money off the initial release but I am fairly certain they will not be able to sustain their sales like they have in the past. I think the only hope for this game is if they can release some top quality DLC for free, or some updates that actually help bring both the franchise and the genre forward.

If you haven't purchased this yet, don't. Just throw in your copy of MW2 and you will be playing pretty much exactly the same game.

This is MW2 with revamped maps, looks more like a DLC than a new game. Infinity Ward you failed on this one. Once again laggy servers plaque the Call of Duty game and I can't believe they have been using the same engine for 6 years, time for a change. I gave it one last shot at Call of Duty but I'm done with this franchise and happy playing my Battlefield 3.

Yes....the graphics aren't as good as BF3 but with multiplayer and epic single player set pieces, MW3's graphics are soon forgotten. MW3 seems to of past expectation in terms of game quality, but it is still the same recipe of fast paced shooting and a great multiplayer and single player experience. I love BF3 but i don't review a game based on another, i review a game based on its experience and MW3 makes me sit down and lose hours in front of the TV which is why you buy a game, if it does this then it has succeeded in what the developers set out to do. Throw in the new elite service, which when its up and running (eventually) will be a spot on service wether or not you subscribe or use it as a free service. ill give MW3 a 9.5 out of 10 which i round off to 10. its exceptional and should not be missed. MW3 is more of an addon for MW2. I cant believe this is a whole new game priced at the very maximum because its exactly the same as the last game, no actualy its worse. I prefered MW2 over this. Next time you release a call of duty game take it back to its routes because this is getting old and a complete waste of money.

Like many people I was worried about how MW3 would fare given that Infinity Ward practically remains itself in name only now and because they brought in Sledgehammer, a company I have never heard of, to help finish it up in time. In fact, I hadn't even planned on getting the game until I bought Battlefield 3 and was so horribly disappointed that I had to see if I could get my shooter fixLike many people I was worried about how MW3 would fare given that Infinity Ward practically remains itself in name only now and because they brought in Sledgehammer, a company I have never heard of, to help finish it up in time. In fact, I hadn't even planned on getting the game until I bought Battlefield 3 and was so horribly disappointed that I had to see if I could get my shooter fix from MW3.
Before I begin I should state that I play CoD for the multiplayer. The only CoD campaign I finished was that of the first MW, so my review is based on that aspect, not the campaign (though I have played a bit of the campaign and it looks like I might finish another one.) At the outset I was disappointed in MW3. The maps seemed convoluted and poorly designed, with no open areas and nothing but corridors. Even using the theatre mode to fly through the maps didn't give me the "oh I get it now" feeling that I got from doing that in Black Ops. I instantly chalked it up to a bunch of noob game designers aping Infinity Ward and failing miserably to catch the feel of their level designs and I was crestfallen. How could both shooters have been such disappointments? Nevertheless, I stuck with it and before long, something clicked. I can't tell you what it was, but suddenly maps started making sense, it felt very much like CoD, and I started bagging more kills than I ever have in CoD matches. (I really do suck at these games.) The addition of Kill Confirmed is fantastic. I've never played a shooter that did so well at forcing team members to act like they were a team (and by the way, why aren't more of you playing this mode??? There is something wrong with you.) On top of that having three options for killstreak rewards is EXACTLY what I've been wanting since I started playing these games. Finally, people who have lives outside of CoD can actually earn a killstreak reward. Now that I've learned some of the maps and I'm building classes that I enjoy this game feels very much like a proper successor to the first two MW's; the new IW and Sledgehammer did very well. There are some issues (at least with the PS3) that need to be worked out, such as the occasional game breaking lag, and connection issues during matchmaking. But these are all things that can be patched at a later date. Overall, this is a good game and, though I never thought I would be saying this, it is the clear winner in the MW3/Battlefield 3 match up. If you're on the fence, buy it. I suspect most of these poor reviews are just Battlefield trolls. There is just simply no way that every professional reviewer is wrong. The real MW fans are playing MW3, not writing bad reviews online.

Oh, guess what else? you know how knife lunging was supposed to get fixed? it's not! it's still there and worse than MW2's. Sure there are a few new guns and the strike package system, but that has very little effect on the CORE gameplay. The core gameplay is exactly the same as the last one and the engine they're using is definitely dated compared to all other big releases this year. You instantly feel like you've played this game before. There is nothing fresh or innovative that makes this game feel "new." To me, this is an outrage. I am very disappointed in this title and to me, none of the minor additions to game warrant a $60.00 price tag. Simply because this does not feel like a new game, not in the least. That being said, I've already put this game up on my local craigslist and I'm selling it alongside the preorder poster hoping I will make my money back. If you are looking for a fresh and innovative experience I recommend you pick up something else, as there are plenty of title's who are far more deserving of your hard earned cash. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Activision have gotten this release badly wrong. A November 7th shipping mandate to UK retailers meant that thousands of pre-order buyers did not get their game on release day. Throw rubbish server performance and this kind of response from loyal customers in to the mix and what you get is something to amounts to the tip of the iceberg in terms of potential back turning for your future pipeline releases.

If I were a fund holder like Davis which holds a goodly amount of ATVI stock I would be taking a serious look at the future of Activision before my investments get burned as badly as this game in these reviews. EA might be a better prospect.

This game is good but its the same, yeah they added a handful of thing but it took they 2 years to develop really? when i first looked at it i thought it was just $60 map pack
They should of took a page out of 343 studios book n found out if u remake the same game it shouldn't cost the full retail cost
Probably the most un innovative call of duty yet, can't wait till the next ;) At least

Wow... This was the FIRST and LAST time that I purchase a Call of Duty game the day of release. The game seemed good, graphics amazing... The issue at hand for me is the people playing multiplayer... They are all camping like crazy... The disappointment here is that I read that the developers made the maps so it'd be difficult to camp. But, that is not so at all... It is even easier actually.

So with MW3 I have been hesitant to spend $60 on it. One of the things that bothers me the most about these games is the gradual lack of effort to create even a decent game. The story from MW2 left a bad taste in my mouth. Its obvious that the story suffered from the focus on multiplayer. What was great about MW1 was it had a solid campaign mode and a great multiplayer feature. Its even more obvious that they really don't care about the campaign anymore. My brother beat the campaign in 4hrs. Really? 4hrs is the best you could do?
I did play with my brother online for several hours so i could get a feel for it and I have to say I wasn't impressed. I definitely wasn't any more motivated to spend $60 on this. What bothers me the most is the idea that they're going to have new DLC every month. So from the start they're telling everyone that they selling an unfinished product. I can't imagine walking into a Carls Jr, paying full price for a hamburger and only getting half of a burger. Then when I ask for the rest of the burger they tell me that i have to purchase the rest in fourths but its ok because its a quarter of the price of what I originally paid. The worst part is that out of the DLC that I have purchased in the past is that there are usually only two maps that are any good.
This game is definitely not worth paying $60 for. The value just isn't there. I can see paying $40 for a new copy, maybe....
As long as people keep paying for poor quality and over valued products they're going keep making the least amount of effort for the most cost to consumer.

A miserable game like none other. Worst fps game I've ever seen in my entire life!
Green oxidized copper all over the screen. Everything is green with the miserable post fx!
The previous games in the series were miserable but this one is reaching new lows.
Bf3 is 10000 times better than mw3! Do NOT BUY. I repeat DO NOT EVEN GET CLOSE TO IT!

As you can see my time played in MW2 is 993 hours and Black Ops is 461 hours.

MW3 feels like a rehashed MW2. I am sorry for the people giving this a 10. I hope it's on the single player because multi player is horrible. Sure there is a lot of detail given in design but 75% of the maps are too small. Most of the maps don't allow for multiple roles (sniper , support, assault) as they are all run and gun being so small.

They even made the game easier by giving some of the old perks as gun stats. Assault rifles now have FMJ and 2 Weapon Attachments as a gun stat rather than a Perk slot.

However, they did do a few things right. Making Blast Shield not lose your vision like they did in MW2 so people can now avoid grenade spam and noob tube better. Also, I do like how they separated out the kill streaks into 3 catagories.

But overall I feel like this is a reskinned MW2. Most of the titles are the same as are the emblems and achievements. There are slight improvements to graphics. And hacks for MW2 work in MW3 so they were there the very first day.

This is a PC review. I liked the single player campaign in MW2 and a friend of mine who did the campaign said he liked it. I'll probably enjoy it as well.

Also co-op is a joke as it's a kill waves of enemies survival. The MW2 co-op was 1000x better.

When you play this game, you realize that 90% of the money and effort was gone in advertising. It is a COD MW 2.5, the same thing we are getting each year. Spend your money in something like Deus Ex HR or Uncharted 3, not this garbage. If you want something war-related, buy BF3, it's not a masterpiece, but at least it had a lot of good work behind.

$60 is too much for a map pack. Stop beating the horse to death. I am so glad I didmt buy this game and that redbox only charged me $1.50 to play the 5 hour campaign. Seriously, if I wanted 5 hours of Michael Bay, I'd watch Transformers.

MW3 is a basic copy and past job stealing most ideas from previous installments in the series. The reality is this game is a hyped up map pack that isn't worth the plastic it's made on.

Fun game, the developers know their audience. After the departure of so many employees from Infinity Ward including the heads of the studio, I am sure I wasn't alone in wondering if this game would be able to reach the bar set by its predecessors. Multiplayer is more balanced, single player has been ramped up in the ridiculousness, I like it much, much, more than I wanted to after the less than amicable split between the Activison and West/Zampella. After having played every COD game developed by IW since the original, I was certainly upset that the final chapter of the MW series wouldn't have many of the original guys working on it, but as much as I dislike Activision, they gave this game enough resources to do it justice. It was almost an "all hands on deck" situation it seems. As much as I detest the pace of the release schedule, they have earned a bit of respect from me for not dropping the ball on this game. Expand

I just created a metacritic account for the sole purpose of letting people know how disappointed I am with MW3. This review is based only on the multiplayer, since that is the reason i bought this game. The lag is horrendous and I have a perfect connection, since with Black Ops I have no lag at all. This could be because of the game just releasing and the tons of people online, but still, it's bad. The hit detection is awful and probably has to do with the lag. The maps are the worst maps in any call of duty game out, and I have played them all. The maps are small and constricted which promotes tons of firefights immediately, but causes a HUGE problem with spawn killing, where it just makes me angry and really hate this game. The spawn points may be fixed down the road but currently it ruins the game. My next problem is with the stackable kill steaks that are never ending, and you are constantly getting killed by helicopters unless you use a perk to go undetected. I can honestly say, that even though the graphics are better, I would prefer to play black ops over this game just because it is more balanced and killing people just feels better since the hit detection is so much better. I have played BF2 and couldn't stand it, so I always stuck with COD games. Just about an hour ago I bought BF3 and have decided to give it another try. I have always prefers call of duty for it's 60fps and smooth gameplay, but that is no longer the case. MW3 feel incomplete and broken, and most my friends on Facebook are saying the same thing, so it's not just me. The only reason I am giving it a 0 score is because I want the call of duty franchise to realize that they have gone downhill, and are taking people's money based soley on all of the hype surrounding this game. I really do hope they learn from their mistakes, and come out with something better next year, or severely improve this game with updates. I understand a lot of bf3 fanboys have reviewed this game without playing it, but I assure you that I have played it, and I'm telling you to save your money unless they fix this broken game. All I can say is I am REALLY disappointed, to the extent that I just bough bf3 after not even liking bf2... Expand

Please do not buy this game. It is one of the biggest wastes of money EVER. Activision makes MILLIONS of dollars off of the COD series, and then puts forth absolutely no effort into the games. They brought in a second developer, and for what???

This isn't MW3...it's MW2.1. It is the EXACT same game. You can't add a couple of new perks (which are horrible, by the way) and a couple of new guns and say it's a new game. Here's a list of things IW copied and pasted from MW2, as well as other problems. The sound effects: There is no difference what so ever. The explosions, which sounded like cartoon explosions in MW2, are the exact same. The voices (with one or two additions) are the exact same. They even say the same crap!

The graphics: It looks exactly the same as MW2, with a few tweaks. Um, yeah, it's been two years, so the graphics are a little better, but they put forth no REAL effort. The maps: Almost every map that I've played is a copy of an MW2 map, with minor changes. Additionally, the maps have major design flaws. There are too many building and other places to camp. The maps are also too vertical. You shouldn't have to look up every second of the game because you're worried someone will shoot you from a window or railing. This is supposed to be a run and gun style game, but IW's map design begs people to camp. The hit detection: Without a doubt, the hit detection in this game is ATROCIOUS. I have to shoot people a minimum of 14 times (at close range), only to be killed by 2 shots in the shin. Excuse me? How can it be so incredibly bad? The answer is, I have no idea. Misc: There's splitscreen, but once again, Activision's developers are so lazy that you cannot sign into a second player's account on PS3. This is absolutely inexcusable. Panic knifing is also back and annoying as ever.

This is honestly just MW2.1 this is awful. I can't believe I stayed up and went to a midnight launch for this. Complete waste of money, i'm taking this back to the store after work today to trade it in (or return it if they let me) and get battlefield 3. God IW is so lazy this is more or less THE EXACT SAME GAME as MW2 with a couple minor tweaks. Waste of damn money.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
