I bought Battlefield 3 this year and played it for 2 weeks. New to the series I found it to be a great game, but i could not wait to get my copy of MW3. Last night I took my MW3 disc out of my PS3 and i don't know if i'll put it back in. After a handful of multiplayer matches i decided to register my elite membership. I was asked to play one match on Black OPS of multiplayer then log refresh the page. When i put my Black OPS disc is and loaded my first match, I was blown away at how much better the game looked and played. I felt Infinity Ward had the upper hand Treyarch when it comes to the Call of Duty series but MW3 really let me down. I read a article on IGN about how MW3 was not a port of MW2, but i couldn't tell any different. colors look washed out, sound is lacking. I have not played the campaign but i don't see any reason to. I really think I will stick with Battlefield 3 and think twice before I spend $100 on a game ( Hardened Edition ). Activision, Sledgehammer I wish you could have provided me an experience that i was hoping for. This comment is not being left to build Battlefield 3 into something its not but to say that MW3 has not lived up to the hype, for me anyway. Expand

Couldn't even compare it to games like Portal 2 that utilize creative story lines and innovative game play. Same ol' call of duty, run gun and plot twists that are about as predictable as you get. Multiplayer? Haha, pitiful. Balance issues and total lack of teamwork like nothing else. Players that just run about, using a sniper as a shotgun and getting unbelievably unbalanced kill streaks. The games a joke, and so are the critic reviews. I'm not sure why paid professionals cannot deduct that this game is just the same as every other member of the Call Of Duty franchise. 0/10. I wouldn't take any of the low scores on Metacritic too personally. Most of the people who bought MW3 are playing it and not writing bad reviews. However, it's not MEANT to. While that sounds lazy on paper, and may cause some "I feel like I've done this before" moments as already stated by others, let's all be mature adults and give the game a realistic score not based entirely out of being butthurt because you were silly and expected this to be a completely different game. MW3 is not a 0, or a 1, or anything on the lower end. Infinity Ward put time into this game, and while they may not have reinvented the wheel, they tweaked the things that worked for the first two games to make them BETTER. And I, for one, am completely okay with that.

Bottom line: If you want innovation, look elsewhere. If you're like me and just want more of what you grew to love in MW2 with fresh maps and a more balanced multiplayer experience, don't pass this one up.

For a company that makes MILLIONS of dollars on the COD series, you would think they could and SHOULD invest in dedicated servers to handle all the lagging issues in the game. What fun do people have, if all they do is lag. Or time out. Or can't find matches but end up in some brazilian ranked lobby? What is Activision doing? What will IW/SH do to get this fixed!? The leveling progression is way too high in multiplayer too. In one match I went up three levels. You don't get the sense that you earned the level you are at. The gaming industry is more and more ripping of consumers by simply re-skinning games instead of making new ones. When will devlopers actually develop new engines? Do we have to wait till the next generation of consoles?

How much work went into the making of MW3, in comparison to say COD4? MW3 uses the same map objects (such as the busses, the tanks) as seen in COD4. These objects exist in Activision library - map creation for them is simply a drag-and-drop. It's not creation.

The graphics, the gameplay, the engine... everything is the same. How much of MW3 is actually different or original? 20% perhaps?

I'm asking everyone on metacritic, for the sake of future game development, to score this game low & send a message to the gaming industy, LOUD & CLEAR that we WILL NOT ACCEPT re-hashed, re-skin products.

If you want to reap the profits, but in the work. Develop game play, develop the engine, improve the graphics... don't patronise your own customers by changing the maps and retailing the game at premium price.

Despite no massive revolutionary game engine, or no relatively new features, MW3 will draw you in more than Battlefield ever did. I am a huge fan of singleplayer modes. I have been playing COD since the second one came out and always have enjoyed the stories that INFINITY WARD told (no offense Treyarch). MW3 does such a great job, along with any other game in the modern warfare series, of producing villians you truly hate, badass comrades and friends you hate to see die. The levels are intense as always and usually always have that "OMG that was cool" element in each one. These elements are what make COD's singleplayer so much better than BF3's. I didn't care for my marine in Iran the same way i did for Soap, Price and Delta Force. Overall i felt the singleplayer was a success. Co-op is fun too. Infinity Ward and Activision have learned from Treyarch's Zombie mode, that endless waves of enemies means endless waves of fun. The new survival mode uses this mode and should provide the player with hours of entertainment. And if one gets bored, you can always jump over to the mission based modes for a even more fun. Multiplayer, will as always be the mainstay for most. While not as innovative as other games (cough BF3) it takes the core formula that changed online gaming forever and improves upon it. Regardless of what people will say, next year at this time there will still be millions playing this game everyday. Most hardcore gamers seemed to have turned away from COD but they forget that COD isn't about the hardcore gamer, its about creating a game that is easy enough that anyone can get good at it. But complex enough that one can never seem to master it. Millions will buy this game and in the end will have played it more than any other online game this year. While I myself enjoy BF3's multiplayer more, the majority of the public will play Call of Duty. Overall, I feel this game has been put down by so many for so long that it isn't getting the attention it deserves. Infinity Ward has worked hard and long to create this series, they deserve the credit for the great work they have done over the years. Now we will live in a Treyarch COD world. Looking back people will look favorably on this game. A praise it deserves. Expand

I would say this is one of the worse of the serious. Short campaign. Kills streak system is worse than before. Allowing you to reset the kill streaks after you reach them all three. Kills with kill streaks counts towards your next kill streak. So basically you don't have to die to regain them. Other words this game isn't challenging anymore and doesn't offer anything fresh. Is true the engine might be re touch a little, but you can't really tell. This game fails at bringing something new on the table. Critics might say is worth it but from a player stand point is one to let go. At least treyarch did great at releasing something fresh and new last year.

Same Copy and Paste crap from every year. At least Treyarch was a bit different and they added different gameplay mechanics. This is an expansion pack of MW2. Garbage. Give us vehicles. Give us something new. This is the same crap. Moving on to battlefield 3.

Modern Warfare 3 is the best in the series. If you played MW2 you will love MW3. The first thing you notice when you play is that there's a lot more ways to play the game. Once you hit level 20 you can pick the Specialist Strike Package. This has no killstreaks. Instead the more kills you get,the more perks you get. I recommend this for only the most expert of players. This package has no deathstreaks so making a comeback will be especially difficult. There are 2 new modes in the game that are really cool. Kill Confirmed is basically Team Deathmatch but you have to pick up these dogtags to confirm the kills. You can also pick up your own dog tag and deny the other teams kills. Team Defender is a fun twist on Capture the Flag. In Team defender the objective is to play keep away with the flag. The longer you have it the more points you get. Remember that? All of the Black ops maps were fun and I had a real blast on each one. MW3 maps are boring and small and rely on twitch reactions to get kills. Much of my deaths on this game are from campers or unbelievable lag within the game, where I clearly shoot the enemy first but on their killcam they clearly shoot me first. I have played well at times but I can't feel a sense of achievement because the only reason I did well was because the opposing team were experiencing lag too. Where is the fun in that? I found the gameplay fun if repetitive, with some nice set pieces (forgetting about the insultingly cheap 'shock' scene that happens mid-game). From what I have heard the multiplayer has barely changed and frankly the single player game is decent enough but for the amount of time you'll spend playing it, it's just not worth it. I'm glad I can afford to blow that amount of cash on a single player game that expires after a matter of a few hours and a MP game that is the same as one I already own. Fun few hours mind, but should definitely have been DLC. Looking forward to Skyrim - same price and probably 50 times as long.

If you've never played Call of Duty before, then you might be suitably impressed with the game. For anyone who has played an FPS in the last 6 years, this game bring absolutely nothing to the table. First, let's address the steaming turd that is the campaign mode -- If this game was released by another company under a different name, these "professional" reviews would be singing a radically different tune. Each task in the campaign revolves around moving your character to a point on the map that triggers the endlessly respawning monster closet to shut off. There is zero strategy involved and freelancing is actively discouraged via small game areas and having to press a button at certain map point in order to continue. I don't mind my campaigns being a bit on the rails, as wandering aimlessly wondering what I'm supposed to be doing isn't any fun, but this game is so tightly held on the rails as to be no fun at all, unless you are a fan fan of running headlong into enemy fire with no thought at all, in which case, you'll probably love this game. Multiplayer, the supposed stregnth of this game, adds little to the tried and true formula that has worked so well in the past. While one might expect that from a mappack or DLC, charging full-price for a glorified map-pack doesn't sit right with me. Couple that with charging players for doing what all other games do for free (Call of Duty Elite), and you have what amounts to a giant cash grab.

Since the last edition of Modern Warfare had rampant lag/cheating issues that went unchecked, I hold out little hope that this year's version will fare much better. If Infinity Ward et. al. actually offer some support to the multiplayer community who don't pay $60 a year over and above the cost of the game, I might be inclined to bring the score up to a 4 (4 out of 5 for mulitplayer and 0 out of 5 for singleplayer).

Bottom line, experienced games should avoid this game like the plague. By purchasing this game, you are tacitily endorsing crappy game design and encouraging companies to keep putting out bad products.

In all seriousness there is simply no way that the game deserves a pathetic score like that and whilst people are entitled to their opinions it's laughable to suggest MW3 is a terrible game because it's far from it! In all seriousness there is simply no way that the game deserves a pathetic score like that and whilst people are entitled to their opinions it's laughable to suggest MW3 is a terrible game because it's far from it! Now that's over, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Or Call of Duty MW2 Part 2 to the haters. It was a given that this outing would pick up from the events of it's predecessor and it does exactly that with Nikolai flying the injured Soap and Captain Price to safety however that's short-lived because when chief antagonist Anatoliy Makarov resurfaces and with the world seemingly at war it doesn't take long for the twosome to get back in action. In all honesty the single player campaign is a continuation of MW2, so yes, it carries on the farfetched story but all the while entertaining you nonetheless. In terms of game play nothing major to report the shooting system has always worked and is arguably the best around when it comes to the FPS genre one of which leads to the demise of one of the MW franchise's most iconic characters however for me personally it didn't have the impact it should have especially giving how important a character this unfortunate individual was throughout the trilogy. Unfortunately the people at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer haven't addressed the length of the solo campaign which again comes in at the 6-7 mark and even more so they have failed to fix the ridiculous AI of enemies as they can amazingly waltz by your team-mates just to pop a round in your head! I was disappointed actually by the lack of new innovations in the game as i'd like to see CoD continue to move forward for e.g. a cover system would have been fresh however it doesn't prevent you from enjoying the ride. The one thing that MW3 does deliver on is it's action packed set-pieces and it does it better than any of it's rivals and in doing so it does engross you throughout whether it's a thrilling train-journey under the British Parliament, witnessing the destruction of the Big Apple or even the collapsing of the Eiffel Tower and that brings me to the visuals it's not close to competing with the very best such as Uncharted but it still does the business for Call of Duty. The one area where Infinity Ward and co continue to thrive upon and deliver the goods is the Online/Multiplayer. People had complaints about MW2 and I wasn't overly impressed by it but MW3 is redefined and plays a treat so be prepared to say goodbye to hours upon hours of your social life its addictive as ever. Again there's nothing new game mode wise the usual suspects online like Free-For-All, Team Death match and all the favourites that entertain us for hours on end are there again but now the guys at CoD have introduced Call of Duty Elite, is it a con for your money, probably but what it does is allows you to improve your game as well as compete in year round competitions for prizes and earn XP its not essential although i'd imagine a fair few might be purchasing it at some point. On top of that Spec-Ops returns for a second outing after it proved to be a success in MW2 and again it's a delight and gives the game plenty of life and to top it off thereâ Expand

Almost perfect. It earns a 10, but maybe the next time it could give us more surprises. The Elite stuff is not for me. The new modes are really funny.

campaign is awesome and multiplayer is simply amazing. Multiplayer plays similarly to modern warfare 2 with most of the BS cut out, and will probably be hours and hours of fun for me.

This was a great expansion, thanks infinity ward you're really creative. It's nice to see that you make billions every year, and you don't even put the tiniest bit of effort to make it a better game, or go above and beyond. Thanks for settling for the expected, really makes you a great games studio. But hell, what can you do when you have to publish this crap every year?

I'm glad I did not buy the game! I had a chance to borrow it so I did not throw my money on another failed game! I took the previous game series in which I could not play because of all the problems with their servers so I decided to stop playing in the series!! Time they learned to appreciate the gamers and invest in our games! Sorry for the English

Single Player is short and uninteresting.
Multiplayer is the same old deal, same old tactic of taking old obscure user-made game modes from old shooters to pretend they did something original, same old MMO-style methods of keeping players addicted to grinding points.
    Playable, but not enjoyable.

Mw3 is basically a map pack, all in all it uses an outdated engine, with very minor tweaks to make it seam that there is a difference between it and that of MW2, but as matter of fact, there really isn't much of a difference, the multiplayer is the same as any other COD title, shares the same formula of: 1- Kill, 2- get kill streak, 3- use killstreak to kill more people, 4- repeat.

I already own MW2, got Black Ops and was expecting something more from MW3 I guess. What I got was MW2 with BLOPs Zombie mode minus the zombies. All the maps are so vertical and have the same dirty look. There are so many corners that now getting caught in a good firefight is a thing of the past. None of these maps are memorable and can't even come close to classics such as Cliffside, Eder Dam, Terminal, Crash and Backlot.

They've used the same in game icons, no new death animations, same killcam and just basically the same audio only boosted with advanced clarity and maybe more treble and bass because the guns do sound a tad more realistic.

The campaign itself was just a Michael Bay movie. So many explosions and action but most of it for no good reason except for it to break silence. So, MW3 has it's good points and that is familiarity, it basically is a CoD game. But, it's a CoD game I already own. This game could has easily been a DLC map pack for MW2 and because of that fact and the fact I paid full game price, I have to give it a low score.

Please Activision, wake up and stop recycling your ideas. We're bored of it and we don't appreciate paying that much for poor quality, especially with money problems in this day and age.

This is what Modern Warfare 2 SHOULD have been, coming from CoD4. It's an expansion, nothing more. Warning to all the potential consumers: Do not purchase this, you will be sorely disappointed. In fact, I'm going to return this game to get CoD4 and play on the servers for that.

It's just MW2 with a patch and a free map pack. Had this game had a graphics upgrade and improvements, it would get a good rating. Call of Duty 4 was great at the time, but nothing has changed.

Loved Modern warfare 1 and 2, and hasn't changed for 3. Graphics might be slightly improved but game play definitely has improved. Online play is even better and campaign was interesting but a good way to continue it. Campaign definitely improved since mw2 only had 5 hours of campaign play. There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
