In short. It doesn't measure up to IW MW2. But it's slightly better than Black Ops and WOW. I've always preferred Infinity Wards' 'Feel' of the gunplay more. I would actually score it a point lower than BF3 just because in the couple of hours I've been online and the modes immediately available to me I've only experienced fast & furious gun & run play. I haven't opened a mode or map that would encourage sniper/overwatch classes or stealth having much emphasis. The Elite system is well set up, but currently overwhelmed by demand and rather unresponsive server replies. Expand

Firstly, getting into an online match is hit and miss at best. You will see "server connection timed out" more than the iron sights of your weapon and constant disconnects just get too much. The maps themselves when you do get in are small, maze like boxes which make the game feel more like a modern day pac man as you chase people around. Hit registration is terrible, it feels flat and bland with the same old killstreaks, which you can now stack by the way and then unleash pretty much all at once for a nice score....great. I really wanted to like this, but when Infinity Ward sacked their best staff this game took a massive dive for the worst. Never again will i waste my money on this tripe and will trade it in tonight for Skyrim. My love of cod ended with 4, its just a shame mugs like me still for for this ****

To further debunthe myth that the multiplayer is just a rehash, the killstreak system has been revamped into strike packages. These are broken into 3 playstyles where the assault is suiting your everyday COD player and support is for the less skilled. This is notable because they finally addressed Tue balancing problem this game had however there is still some killstreak abuse but its dealablell. The multiplayer also has two new modes in addition to all the other classic COD modes. The campaign is a nice add on to the experiennce though a little short. The package also come with Spec OPS mode from MW2 and a brand new survival mode. To all the unfair and bull reviews that this game doesn't deserve, please explain how a hammer with more modes than any other game, a game where they made more friendly for everyone, a game that's been balanced to the poinnt where there are no recognizable abuses, a game that offers more maps than ever before, and a game that comes with.a total of 3 new modes across the board deserves anything less than a 9. Modern Warfare 3 does nothing to break this time-honored tradition that now feels so exasperated and overdone that I find it hard to believe that people still care about this game. Modern Warfare 3 strikes me as a glorified map pack that in no way justifies a $60 price tag.

The announcement of 20 (yes, twenty) DLC's throughout the next year obviously signals an attempt by Activision to force their overpriced "Call of Duty: Elite" service on its user base, which costs another $50 per year. I see nothing in the Elite service that strikes me as revolutionary, nor could I ever justify paying $50 per year (or even $10 per year) on such an inane service. It tracks your stats and shows you overheads of maps. Back in the golden era of PC gaming, we got those types of services (as well as updates, new maps and weapons, and other major releases) for free. Now greedy companies like Activision want us to pay a continual fee for such services. It really displays the lack of dignity and respect game developers and publishers have for their customer base these days.

    So to summarize:
Activision would have us buy a $60 game which brings literally zero innovation to the table and offers little more than a re-skin of its prequel. Then Activision expects us to pay $50 per year so that we can track our stats online (you read that correctly, people). Then they announce 20 DLC updates within the next year, basically admitting that they sold us an incomplete game (but don't worry, for the small price of $50 per year, you can make your Call of Dutyâ

Of course, if you are expecting something more Oscar-worthy, you obviously don't know the franchise very well. Overall, it was a lot of fun. The spec ops mode of MW2 has returned with some enhancements. Eat your heart out Zombies, because IW has conjured up the fun with survival mode. It's a wholly different experience when the enemies can shoot back. Multiplayer has a lot more depth with the addition of 2 new game modes, Kill Confirmed and Team Defender. The weapon leveling system is a nice touch, too. The matchmaking servers are still just as problematic as ever, although I'm not getting a lot of lag once I'm in a match. Most of the issue is with getting into the match to begin with. I've also had problems with getting separated when I'm playing online in a party with friends. Graphically, MW3 looks so much better than Black Ops. I didn't realize how much I missed the weather effects until I played through a rain storm on one of the maps. I won't say this is the prettiest game ever, but I did feel immersed in the game environment than with the last Call of Duty. For those who are complaining that IW is using the same engine from MW2 with no improvements, I have to disagree. These developers are obviously learning more about getting more out of the same game engine. Many game makers use the same game engine for multiple outings. It's like saying that the graphics can't have improved because it's still the same ol' PS3. I'm really enjoying Modern Warfare 3 and I can't wait to see what IW comes up with for DLC. Expand

Another MW game, and this time, they didn't bother to hide the fact that they were reusing textures and building from the fourth installment, or that they hardly changed anything about the overall gameplay. In fact, they seemed to have taken a step back from their newer game, Black Ops, opting for a tired out MW2 system. Brainless fun, a junk food of a game. Save your 60$.

MW3 is addicting, the maps are many and are extremely fun. The unlocks are amazing and seem like they will never end. This gives me such joy and motivation to keep playing. That is what makes CoD so special. Another aspect of CoD that I really enjoy is the Kill Cam. It helps me to see how I am killed so that I can improve and learn from mistakes. I wish Battlefield would add a Kill Cam. I am playing Domination religiously and I have had many good moments and went to bed around 2:30am last night.

The best part of CoD is its controls and fluid game play. There is no chop chop in this game as it runs at a cool 60FPS. Playing Black Ops and then playing MW3 will show you the difference in the controls. MW3 has that solid flow to it compared to Black Ops cumbersome feel. I will play Black Ops and do ok, but with MW3's excellent control I do much better. Last night I went from level 8 to 18 in just a few hours. I know I have improved but I am able to track better in MW3 than Black Ops.

Kill streaks are an incredible staple to the CoD franchise. The support strike packages are a welcome addition. They allow you to keep your kill streak alive even if you die. The assault strike package acts like the kill streaks from past CoD games which resets your kill streak when you die. I am not the best player by any means and will have a poor kill/death ratio. So this support strike package allows me to enjoy the kill streaks. So far I have spawned a UAV, SAM Turret, Remote Machine Gun Turret and a Stealth Bomber. The SAM Turret is cool because there are always kill streak planes flying over head. It's sweet to see missiles from your SAM Turret streak towards a Stealth Bomber!

Speaking of missiles hitting Stealth Bombers or Helicopters, my rockets when locked hit the plane or helicopter but never seem to destroy it. I have hit a helicopter with a rocket and had it get extremely damaged and "Look" like it was going down but then stay in the air. I don't have another rocket so I cannot take it down. They should explode from one rocket IMHO or give me 2 rockets.

My biggest disappointment is the knifing. This has gone unchanged and is still the fast air slash it was in the past. It would have been great to see a KZ3 or BF3 animated stabbing death. Other than that I don't have anything to complain about.

There are 16 maps which I find very generous. They are from many different locations. I don't have a favorite yet as I am enjoying all the maps. I am sure over time as I learn the names I will enjoy my favorites. One thing I really love about CoD is that when you are killed it's so easy to get back in the action. It is unending and exhilarating.

The audio is top notch falling a close second behind BF3's sound. The guns explode with realism along with the explosions. The planes and different kill streak sounds are amazing!

IW and Sledgehammer did a great job. I don't feel like this is MW2.1 at all. This feels like a different game that has a lot to offer. They took a great formula and perfected it. This is the best CoD released yet. It is a shame that many of the CoD faithful have given a score of 0 when they are playing MW3 right now and really enjoying themselves. It appears that hypocrisy knows no bounds. I will be enjoying this one all year. Hopefully Treyarch can come back with a better effort than Black Ops. Zombies is amazing, but they need to do better on the CoD control feel and MP component.

Modern warfare 3 is a perfect blend of everything. Playing online day of release was amazing. Spec ops is done very well. The new survival mode is like the horde mode in gears, and presents the players with a challenge to stay alive and work as a team. The missions in Spec ops are also very well done. Presenting even some of the best players with a challenge, they're well worth going through.

The visuals in the game are similar to Modern Warfare 2, but are still amazingly done. With the use of more colour in the maps, the visuals are amazing. Overall this game is very well done. I recommend this to anyone who fell in love with Modern Warfare 2.

There are several moments, especially one, if you have played all three games where you will be shocked and saddened. A fitting end to a fine story. The multiplayer is however the main reason to jump on any COD game. I swear it's the only time I still talk to some of my college friends. The new features, especially the support kill streak addition, makes the game much more accessable to main stream gamers like myself. The maps are fluid and fun. And the competition is top notch. There are some buggy issues with setting up matches but pretty much all games launch with bugs like that these days. They will be patched in time and the experience will get even better. The multiplayer, however, is largely the motivation alot of people, including myself have and will have for buying this game. Comparing it to modern warfare 1 and 2, it is much the same; however, if you've been playing Black Ops for the past year and want a fresh start, this is it. Multiplayer is based much less upon 'who can run around knifing the fastest' and more upon 'how can you best kill the other team?' It's much more fast-paced that MW2 from what I have seen, but is a whole different ballpark to Black Ops; an experience that won't let you run-and-gun and kill everybody just because you have the fastest reflexes.

How do you judge a game? On graphics? The textures, colours, overall feel of the game is much better than, say, blackOps, but I don't think it's anything to be amazed about- at the very least, it does a bit better with framerate. Audio- I'm not sure if this is because of me being a former blackops regular, but the gun sounds seem a bit more... I don't know, iffy? More 'pewpew' than 'BLAMMM'..... I'm not sure how to fully express that.

Single-player- a must ONLY if you really really care about the endings to a mediocre storyline

Multiplayer- only if you care about chasing the majority of the multiplayer community who, whether they reviewed this game well or not, will be playing online and constantly saying 'THIS GAME SUXXX!'. Yes, the 12-year-old prepubescent idiots are there still, as are the cashed-up-bogans.

Overall; Okay, the review is my own opinion of this game. I'm not going to say it's shattt because, like I said, I actually quite like to play. But I can also see how this game has shortcomings of its own. Between this and BF3, I'd play BF3 for the grand experience of a warzone; I'd play Call of Duty to be a one-man-army. Neither game is monumental, and neither should be GOTY. I give this game a 7/10 because, it's not the worst game in the world, it's not the most amazing game in the world, and yeah, I actually DO play this game.

It is, however, filled with some great set pieces and good old shooting action that Call of Duty does so well. There's also a lot of content to be had in the special ops and multiplayer suites of the game which add a lot of replay value to the game. While it doesn't take any massive new leaps in the shooter genre, it's gameplay and controls are as fluid and fun as ever. The new survival mode, whilst not entirely original, works extremely well and is a welcome addition to the standard game modes on offer.
Modern Warefare 3, while not making massive leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessors, is still fresh enough and certainly addictive enough that I'll be playing this one for a while to come.

One of the best ways i've heard Call of Duty described recently is 'similar to a sports franchise'. Every single year Fifa, PES, Madden and others are released as refined versions of themselves edging ever closer to a perfectly balanced formula. These titles don't re-invent the wheel, they don't need to. They do what they do well with a finesse that is enjoyed by millions of people worldwide. Call of Duty is the sports game of shooting people.

As the franchise moves on, the focus is clearly on the lasting experience of multiplayer. Nowhere is that more evident than in this years release of Modern Warfare 3. People who have played Call of Duty online before will know what to expect here, though this year the refinements have made it the best in the series so far. Subtle emphasis on teamwork can be found in game modes such as Kill Confirmed and the Stike Package system. These new tweaks encourage players to try out different play styles and to work together helping their team towards victory. It's a very encouraging and welcome move by Infinity Ward. The multiplayer on a whole feals much more balanced than MW2 and is a deeper experience than Black Ops. The amount of content in the game is fairly staggering when you consider the number of hours that can be lost to levelling your character, your weapons, completing challenges and upgrading your loadout. Combined with a solid 6 hour campaign that will be a good challenge on the harder difficulties, and robust co-op modes this really is a wealth of content.

The Spec ops mode is back from MW2 and is far more robust than last time. The missions focus on giving players different roles (similar to Overwatch in MW2). This technique basically doubles the amount of play you can get out of these side quests as you can play them all as both roles. Survival mode is a welcome new feature that is Call of Duty's take on Gears of War's Hoard mode. Pitting you against waves of increasingly difficult enemies this sounds like 'Zombies mode with soldiers'. However, it si far from it. By killing enemiesy you recieve money to buy upgrades and more weapons / armour. Eventually you will hit a point where you can't progress any further and it'll be game over. However, the catch is that you level up in spec ops in a similar way to multiplayer. This means that as you return for a second round of survival, you will have increased your level and more robust defensive and offensive equipment will be availible to you, thus enabling you to progress further. It is this reward and progress system that has made call of duty so addictive, and with each iteration the teams involved are finding new and impressive ways to keep you hooked for the 12 months until the next installment is released.

The final major change comes with Call of Duty Elite. A free service similar to bungie.net that enables you to track all of your stats over both Black Ops and MW3. You can study your performance on each map, compare yourself to your friends, assign custom loadouts (which appear next time you start up the game) and read up on all manner of strategies and tips. There is a premium version availible for $50 / £35 which includes all the map packs to be released for the whole year (meaning that you save money in the long run) and other premium content such as video guides.

This is the most complete Call of Duty package that we have seen yet. With a plethora of game modes this will satisfy even the most hardcore of players. However, the tweaks to the multiplayer and the options to act as a support character and still feel like you make a difference to the match makes this game one of the most welcoming to new players as well. If you have played Call of Duty and are not exhausted of the formula then you should pick this up. If you've never played Call of Duty then there has never been a better time to get on board.

Yes, modern warfare 3 is pretty much the same game as number 1 and 2 . Is that a bad thing? In a word, No! Modern warfare 3 is like playing a Michael Bay blockbuster. Michael Bay movies are generally pretty lame when it comes to story elements, but I still enjoy them because of the edge of your seat action. That is the exact same reason I love Modern Warfare. There are tons of moments that leave you on th edge of your seat. I've only played the first three missions, and each one of them had a moment that dropped my jaw entirely. Whether it was racing through a fleet of Russian battleships as they explode around you, or getting a first hand experience of a plane crash, I was blown away by these moments. Concerning multiplayer, I can tell you that it's a huge improvement over modern warfare 2. In mw2 you couldn't turn a corner without being vulnerable from six different directions. The new maps seem to be much more organized, while still maintaining the verticality of mw2. And the strike packages are a very welcome addition. I am by no means a pro at this. So to have the ability to still be a help to my team, despite my less than stellar kill-death ratio, helps those of us that don't always get the high scores. In closing, I'm sure I will be labled a fanboy, or accused of working for Activision, but I don't care. This is a good game, and people are showing their appalling ignorance by blasting it with these unbelievable review scores. The first modern warfare game was fun, and this one is too. But this game is definetally worth your time. And it will take much of your time beating it. The survival mode itself is awesome. Also, if you dont like the repetitive multiplayer, then the campaign still makes this game worth a buy. Bought this game, took it home, and played it. Then I realized the game I was playing was one that I already owned. I had owned several copies of this game. Why did I even go out and buy it? I thought it was new game, but I already have three of them.

I'm sad at the Battlefield players on here who are giving this game a 0 just because they are fan-boys who like to piss and moan. I'm sure 80% of the negative reviews are from people who haven't even played the game. Grow up people, MW3 is still a great game.

A handful of new units and Kickass graphics, not too much for such a long wait.

Just another rehash of a rehash of a rehash. Still utilizing the same engine from nearly 4 years ago, same mp component, just diff maps, with diff weapons, and a campaign that can be beat in a matter of a few short hours. Time for this franchise to start looking for a new direction.

If you have Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops you don't need to buy this game, choose Battlefield 3 instead. Repetitive gameplay, old graphic engine, only a couple of new features but that isn't nearly enough to buy it.

The Survival mode is fun, but the fact that it is limited to just 2 players SUCKS! Infinity Ward makes the same crap over and over, and bringing Sledgehammer into the mix did not change ANYTHING! At least Treyarch's Black Ops felt like a completely different game and proper evolution from World at War. I did purchase MW3 and BF3 (have a house full of gamers), but once the newness of MW3 wears off, we will go back to playing Black Ops! Thank you Infinity Ward for pushing the FPS genre forward with MW1, but you SUCK for not contributing anything worthwhile to it since then! Expand

I'm disappointed with this game. You would think, okay nothing is going to be as bad as MW2.. well MW3 is living proof that it is. The texture quality is like 360p, and at rare moments 480p.

They reused the layout design which is pretty sad. On top of that, if anyone here remembers the CoD4 map Pipeline, they reused the building where you can go up and camp. They put that building in one of their single player missions. I have nothing good to say about this game. A waste a money. Go get yourself Skyrim, Saint Rows The Third, Battlefield 3 or even Duke Nukem Forever.

Commando and One Man Army are gone. The perk structure is more balanced. Weapons upgrades are more vast, allowing you to add weapon proficiencies as well as attachments. The new killstreak system allows even average players to feel accomplished and contribute to the team by choosing the support strike package. There are daily and weekly challenges players can complete for more xp driven competitors. Like in Black Ops, shotguns can now only be used as primary weapons, no more shotgun snipers. There are some weapons from the last game that have returned, but there are tons of new weapons as well. The killstreaks are new and fun to use. Donning a juggernaut suit? There are gadgets from Black Ops as well, with the motion sensor and radar jammer. There are also the new EMP grenade and Bouncing Betty's.

This is a FPS, taking place in an imaginary modern day war setting. How many leaps and bounds can you make in this genre? You're going to have repetition in some aspects. There are going to be rehashed assault rifles, SMGs, and sniper rifles. Killstreaks are not new to the franchise either, but the new Strike Package system is a fresh twist.

On top of all of this you still have a campaign, spec-ops, and survival mode. Video games are 60$, that's just how it is. Even terrible games cost $60. Complaining about this much content costing the baseline price for current-gen video games is an invalid argument.

I love BF3, but I consider BF3 and MW3 different kinds of games. BF3 is a total war simulator, MW3 is more like an arcade style fast paced shooter. Both games provide vast amounts of entertainment in their own right. I play both games and I have a blast with both of them. People who dislike this game so much should spend their money elsewhere, and save their breaths.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
