    This game was going to be disappointing. MW3 is a cut and paste of Black Ops with MW2 menus. Offering nothing new from any other previous title. And for 60 dollars, you're being robbed. It's pretty much just an overpriced map pack with the same graphics from previous titles. They didn't even give us the consumers new graphics.     Don't listen to the haters! This score people give this game is not what it deserves. Of course it has its flaws. Every game has it flaws. This game has an epic campaign, an even more epic co-op survival and spec ops mode and multiplayer has been completely re-balanced. The graphics had a nice upgrade and this is still the most fast-paced, smooth and best gun-on-gun action you can get onDon't listen to the haters! The only downside to the game is that the maps don't have the flair they had in MW2, but with so much content coming out over the coming year, I wouldn't worry too much about that.     Very disappointed! I was hoping MW3 would address the long running online issues such as lag, joining friend's party, server time out issues, etc but this has sorted none of them. Tried playing last night with 3 friends, 2 couldn't join my party yet we could all join another persons, when we were in game lobby 2 of us kept getting kicked out. If this was released as a map pack forVery disappointed!     Same old Call Of Duty of the last few years, same old problems, its a campers paradise as usual, server time outs are the frequent, its what you've come to expect. I had hoped that they would introduce ways of discouraging camping, they tried this with dog tags but the campers true to for keep camping.     The best game in earth, the campaign is better than mw2, the multiplayer is the best in the series. Spec Ops is back and survival mode is a great thing!!!

    I see that dark forces are at work again! I cannot quite believe what I am reading. Having owned the entire Call Of Duty series, and played online for endless days/weeks MW3 is amazing. I do think that some of the maps in Black Ops are better, but that is it. Nobody likes unfamiliarity. It is a new game.     This game is not that bad as the user score says. I don't think it is a perfect game but I am hoping to offset the user score a bit by giving it a 10. It is pretty fun game. It has a good co-op mode that uses splitscreen multiplayer that battlefield 3 does not have at all. You can take a friend online with you which I think is a great feature.     The game is way smoother and polished than bf3. The lvls are appropriately sized for the amt of players. It about comes down to if you want to b rambo, or a camper.     Honestly doesn't live up to the hype whatsoever. Feels like MW2 DLC, but worse. It seems that 3 studios can't do as good as one team like DICE or the original Infinity Ward. Who knew that COD would slip in standards like Tony Hawk Skateboarding, Guitar Hero, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro etc. Refund Please...

    Single player is very short (beat it in 5 hours 40mins on hardened) and totally throw away. There are too many turret/on-rails sequences and the stealth sections allow for very little improvisation. However no other game can rival its coop and multiplayer modes.

    1) I don't recommend playing the single-player campaign. You're better-off watching it on youtube!!
    2) Multi-player maps suck.
    3) I don't believe I paid $49 for ELITE membership. I would like a refund.
    4) Get Treyarch back cause Black Ops is bloody awesome!!

    It's the exact same thing as Modern Warfare 2 but seeing as I'll probably be playing it for the next year or so and it's the funnest multiplayer experience I've had in a while. I just had to give it a good score.

    this game feels a lot like playing MW2, it has some new stuff but i feel like the maps have gotten worse and it seems to revolve around cqb. i payed 60$ for a game that is pretty much the same as its predecessors that cost a fraction of the price, so in a way i feel like i got scammed. i wouldn't recommend buying this game.

    Some say that this game is the same as modern warfare 2 but it is and isnt at the same time. It is still a fun and engaging multiplayer and campaign, and has a lot of small tweaks making the games very different and this game is so polished and controls are so tight that it rises above all call of dutys before it.     This game is exact the same thing than MW2, except the name...

    The campaign lasts only 3 hours and you will never play it again.

    Save your money for Rage or Skyrim.

The campaign mode in this game actually rather impressed me; the grand scale of all the battles helped me to look past the ever-spawning enemies and enjoy the action sequences.    Really disappointing game. It is the letdown everyone was hoping it wouldn't be.

    Multiplayer is a different story. The maps are shocking - way too small, and every one the same, broken buildings and corridors galore. There is no cohesion, the killstreaks don't work properly, graphics are crap etc. It really does feel like a bunch of crazied civilians running around shooting at each other.

    As a side note, the great scores given to this game by critics (and the lousy ones given by the public) are a testament to the fact that the gaming industry does not have enough pressure on it to produce new and exciting things. The last one was COD4. Hopefully the next one will be soon.    … Expand

    you love only money activision, and dont power up this old graphics, check bf3 for a seriuos 2011 graphics, Half of the sounds, equipment, perks, guns, and only one new attachment are in the game. 80% of the killstreaks are the same. modern warfare 3 just feels old already

    Same dated engine, same graphics, same brainless shoot-em-up, still entertaining if you're into that kind of crap. Agree with most reviewers here, this game is just a $60 DLC. There's no way in hell I'm gonna buy any DLC for this. I'd rather play Battlefield 3 than this monotonous, blend, MW "expansion pack"

    I've been playing COD since the first game was released and this by far is the worst game ever produced. It seems that they milking this series for all its worth. They have put zero effort into producing this game and it shows. I will NEVER buy another game produced by IW....such a disappointment from one of my favorite game series.     I was originally waiting until Christmas to play this and but was given it as an early present and I must say it is easily the best of the series... unlike its predecessor, the multiplayer is now finely balanced and the stupid fun of the solo campaign has been taken to new heights and in a game fun should always be taken into consideration unlike certain other po-faced FPS 'battles'. To top it off is the vastly improved Spec Ops co-op that is now fine-tuned to be an equally enjoyable solo experience to the campaign with Survival discovering how to balance solo and co-op where Zombies et al could not.
    People may argue that the game runs on an old engine but briefly ignoring the fact that this is a very nice-looking game with a silky smooth 60FPS: since when have engines been the be-all and end-all of a game's success... Ocarina of Time 3D is still one of the best games of the year despite running on an engine from a decade ago so that cant be a detrimental factor to MW3.....

    Yes it's a very similar game to MW2, but that's because MW2 is a near perfect shooter (multiplayer). If your looking for a radical change go play something that sucks. They have made small but significant changes to balance the game play. it's dishonest to rate this game a two when you know full well your going to spend the next 4 months plays the s**t out of it.

I work in the games industry as a senior character artist, and I can safely say this game is incredible, both from gameplay point of view and a technical perspective. I also want to state, I love BF3 just as much too. The multiplayer is fast and intense, with lots of choice for game modes - my personal favourite is kill confirmed, a different take on regular team deathmatch.     I cannot believe the hype for a game that is basically the same thing over and over again. Sorry but I played this game 3 years ago, nothing new. Graphics are dated, I have seen better, sounds are just pathetic and don't get me started on the horrible campaing mode. Save your cash if you already have Cod 4, you will not miss out on anything.

I shoulda just gave my one hundred and fourteen dollars to the bums around my town at least it woulda went to someone who needs it. This game is a port of MW2 with different maps and kill streaks.     I was very hesitant about purchasing this game, I was set on buying Battlefield 3 straight away. Then when I went to Gamefest and actually played Modern Warfare 3 along with Battlefield 3. I really enjoyed both. The gameplay is very different to the previous Modern Warfare games , its actually incredible compact and close quarters which me and my friends had to adjust to (especiallyI was very hesitant about purchasing this game, I was set on buying Battlefield 3 straight away. Then when I went to Gamefest and actually played Modern Warfare 3 along with Battlefield 3. I really enjoyed both. The gameplay is very different to the previous Modern Warfare games , its actually incredible compact and close quarters which me and my friends had to adjust to (especially considering Battlefield 3 so huge) and once you get over the very close CQC it is very intense and action packed. Snipers are reduced to a minimum, which is interesting. Sometimes the spawn points do seem bad though which is a negative (friends been spawned right into grenades or enemies).

    The concept of how capturing domination points gives you a point for your killstreak, was a great idea and support killstreaks is a interesting addition and gives you quite a power to help your team and EMP is really useful finally. Also the weapon leveling is great addition and the weapon proficency is rather intriguing and kinda awesome. But giving people a point to their killstreak when capturing points is a very great idea. Now people actually bother to capture points. Many times in BLOPS and previous MW games have I been capturing and pretty much only 2 other people with me, now people actually bother to capture. Yes the engine does look dated and hopefully the will design a new engine, I dont see it selling too well if they continue to use the same engine. The knifing is really fast, and I do get annoyed with the quick stabbing (unrealistic) but it looks like its been set for everyone commando style melee which makes it balanced but its much better in BF3 how the knife works, its far too fast. Also I think the shotgun is far to lobotmized, it completely cut out at a certain range which I can see why would be done but ultimately that have gone to far with it. Especially considering in CQC fighting a shotgun is really deadly. However the gameplay is still pretty fun, and better graphics does not mean better gameplay any real gamer will tell you that. Lastly it still runs pretty well, also the Sweeping Helicopter Killstreak is incredible and awesome and one of the best ever. I do however express annoyance that delta force isnt available in Multiplayer only in Spec Ops, really love that re-enforcement. I do support Infinity Wards original members whom got the short end of the stick with activision refusing to pay royalities, which is wrong but Sledgehammer and the outer layer of Infinity Ward have certainly done a good job with Modern Warfare 3. It is completely miles better then Modern Warfare 2 and Sledgehammer and this Version of Infinity Ward show they are the right people for the job.    … Expand

    It's Call of Duty! If you like Call of Duty, then you'll like Call of Duty! Sure it looks and feels the same but, Hello???? IT"S CALL OF DUTY!!!!!!! If you want something different, buy something different. If you want the best Online Mulitplayer Experience then look no further!!!! Call of Duty has the largest fan base of any other video game!!! Buy this game, you won't regret it!!!!

    This is exactly the same if not worse then the original MW. Zero to little innovation and creativeness has gone into this rehashed version of MW 1.1. Glad I rented and didn't fork out the £45 quid for this abomination of gaming. Avoid like the plague.

Not to mention you were able to play it with upto 3 other people that you know! Where's the fun in fighting endless enemies with only one other person? There is no fun in that.     Wow, I am surprised with all the hate on here for a single game. Personally I love the MW series and was very excited for MW3. This hype was well worth it. Campaign is the best for any FPS and Multiplayer is fun. Don't understand why this series needs a revamp with every release, I like the gameplay as it is and will continue to support the MW/COD series.

Campaign is the best for any FPS and Multiplayer is fun.     The game is buggy, and boring. And paying greater than full game price for a map-pack of MW1 is a scam. I feel scammed for buying it. The graphics were good.... if this was 2003. The sounds were sub-par, the game play is the same, with no variaton...... It's basically COD Modern mappack 3.

    giving any game this well crafted, this smooth and satisfying less than 5/10 is criminal. ratings are not protest votes, but an indicator of a game's overall quality. mw3 is perfect to a fault, the ultimate evolution of what has come before. we demanded more of the same and I, for one, am ecstatic. ignore the sheep, this game is a love letter to arcade-fps fans. peace.

    I am loving the single player, is fast paced and fun, and the multi player is fun to. So my score is 8 but to compensate the low score i will give it a 10.

They have around 2 million people playing online at any one time....that is some great statistics and achievement for any gaming company. Look how far we've come from getting all your friends round and playing with just 2 people at a time or 4 if you had the PS1 quad adapter. Be grateful that people can create such high quality products, regardless of the game title. I'm not a CoD fan boy at all, i'm a video gamer and I have more games and consoles than I can name (sad I know), and I probably will be trying BF3....not because I don't enjoy MW3, but because I want to appreciate what other games can offer. I think that's why people are slating this game, not because it's generic and they're used to the story (and admit-tingly it is only a 5 hour campaign), but because people like alternatives and trying new things....hell we'd all be stuck in the stone age if it wasn't for people advancing in their thoughts right? People can hate this review as much as they like, but it's all about personal opinion, and if you don't like the game then that's your opinion of which you are totally entitled to.     I've played both BF3 and MW3...and to be honest they are both great games but I think MW3 wins out in terms of single player storyline and multiplayer. A lot of people are disappointed that MW3 is using the same engine..but why honestly fix something that isn't broken. I also 'had' Black Ops but that game had nothing on MW3.     I cannot believe the hype for a game that is basically the same thing over and over again. Sorry but I played this game 3 years ago, nothing new. Graphics are dated, I have seen better, sounds are just pathetic and don't get me started on the horrible campaing mode. Save your cash if you already have Cod 4, you will not miss out on anything.

    Multiplayer on Modern Warfare 3 will keep you going for years. There are loads of levels, you now have even more reason to spend time on it with leveling up guns to unlock perks, leveling yourself up to unlock guns etc. Plus the killstreaks have been changed so now you have both assault and support killstreaks. Support killstreaks keep track of your kills even after you die, so if your a low level it gives you an opportunity to contribute in someway towards your team.

    Spec Ops, and Survival mode also add a lot of replayability to the game, with carefully constructed missions you can play with your friends online or split screen. Survival mode is for those who like zombies on the last game, i haven't yet played it but from reading reviews from game critics on the net, it's apparently the best addition to this years Modern Warfare 3. For $15 you got 5 maps. I think the hate only got worse when people realized that they made a new Call of Duty Game every year and it didn't change much.     Nice graphic, very good sound (better than mw2), singleplayer owns everything, and perfect multiplayer. Guys this game is amazing!!!! I think this game is really good, the best of all modern warfare.

The graphics are better (not breathtakingly better, but better) is still super smooth 60FPS the gameplay is funny and thilling, the single player campaign is first class and yet they improved the multiplayer gameplay with:

    - Point streaks instead of killstreaks, rewarding playing the objectives and making people camp less.
    - Removed the camping-friendly nuclear bomb.
    - Removed some annoying perks like OMA
    - Nerfed the noobtubes
    - Less camping friendly maps
    - Less air support streaks and SAM turrets like the one in Black Ops
    - etc...

    So if you liked Modern Warfare 2 you'll like this even more becase it is like a perfected MW2. If you liked Black Ops on the PS3 this MW3 is 600p instead of the 544p of Black Ops.    … Expand

    Everything (even the UI) is the same, I wish instead of trying to cram more stuff in you streamlined things like CoD4 - UAV, airstrike and chopper is all you need. Having other options promotes camping and after a couple days i'm already sick to death of it.

    I feel like I was scammed out of $90AUD, had it been a $40 expansion I would not be complaining but I haven't the money to throw away like this. Regret that I did not wait for Skyrim now.

    Overall I like this game. GFX engine is maybe 'dated' but when playing I can't tell, scenes, views, textures look awesome. A comparison tot a Michael Bay-film would hold up.

    Campaign has a nice plot and is longer then MW2. I enjoyed it a lot.

    I don't understand all the critics. If you like the military-action shooter gerne, you will definitly like this.

Look, it runs perfectly out of the box, you can play it on a laptop 3 years old or a top of the range pc. You can play it on 2 consoles that are approaching the end of their cycle perfectly. It has over the top voice acting, far fetched battle scenes and unrealistic combat. That's what COD is all bout. The comparisons to BF3 are boring and pointless. They both attack the Battle scenario completely different. Battlefield is what it is, a "battlefield". Tanks, planes, helicopter's, they haven't changed the formula since the first one. They are trying to push the technology but just read pc forums and see the problems people are having with it. GFX card companies struggling to get updated drivers out in order for you to achieve decent FPS. People with high end pc rigs having to enter BIOS and disable Hyper Threading to stop stuttering. That doesn't happen with the COD games, you hit play and it just runs. I bought them both and love them both but this constant comparison is just silly and and people hating because it's "More of the same" is equally as silly. After all, how far can they take the combat scenario? You want realism join the army. If you like COD games, just get it. What surprises me is reading the various forum postings about this title on quite a few sites, a surprising number of people pirated this title and STILL moan about it. Unbelievable. To sum up.     Gotta love all of the COD haters rating MW3 a zero. The game is not perfect that's for sure, but there are very few games that are. However, MW3 is great fun to play and I will be having many hours of great gaming with it. If you enjoyed the previous versions then you will love this. If you don't like COD then obviously you won't like this release. Not rocket science is it.

    Great addition to the Call of Duty franchise. The balance to the multiplayer is perfect. There are no weapons or perks that I feel are overpowered. Rewards you for capturing objectives and not just camping. Matchmaking is fast.

Font, level up music, navigation, hud all the same or at least very very similar to MW2. Most perks and kill-streaks have been carried over from previous games.     Shield. Enough said. Plus more options this time around to be a team player. A very high risk, high reward multiplayer game which can be frustrating at times, but I love it.

    If you enjoyed the previous modern warfare games, you will LOVE this one! Fast pace gun on gun gameplay. Multiplayer is awesome. Great game to play with your buddies.

Graphics are dated, I have seen better, sounds are just pathetic and don't get me started on the horrible campaing mode. Save your cash if you already have Cod 4, you will not miss out on anything.

    I think this game is great and adds on what the other games in the series started like a good sequel really should do. I hope that people will stop attacking this game because they are a fan of something else. This game is good and real reviews have been very high for it. so stop trying to keep people away from this fun game.

    Every big release seems to be positioned opposite a different game of the same genre and even before they have been released a battle of words ensues on the internet as to whose game is better, more advanced or prettier and of course the ever present used-so-often-it-lost-all-its-meaning "fanboy" crops up in every other sentence.

    What you guys need to realize is that you are not fighting your own battle, you are actively involved in the marketing of a product and are willfully doing the job someone normally gets paid to do. You are not living in world where you need to chose between drinks, books, games, etc. You do not live in an either/or world. You can drink Coke AND Pepsi, you can wear Levis AND Dockers, you can eat Big Macs AND Whoppers, you can read Harry Potter AND War and Peace, watch The Shield AND The Wire, you can play Dark Souls AND Skyrim, CoD AND BF, etc.

    It is baffling to read 'reviews' on this site and at the same time be 100% certain the persons who wrote them did not play the game they're reviewing for 1 second but are actively repeating the same lines that have been said over and over again for hundreds of such 'reviews' in a row. The actual lines put into their mouths by the "other company" trying to outshine their competitors.
    I want metacritic to reflect the opinion of people playing a game and providing me with insight into their experience again, just as it used to be. What I do not want is to read hundreds of nerd-rage fuelled marketing stooges supporting one developer or another not being aware that their fueling of the fire is actualy equivelant to putting money in their pockets.

New modes and small additions like the leveling of separate guns are added, and this time around you'll have to reach level 80 to prestige; a great addition for those who don't want to prestige and just want to keep on leveling. The problem lies in the fact that this isn't a game separate from all of the other call of duties and its value suffers from it. After annual call of duties for over 5 years the core gameplay remains largely the same. No new innovations. Nothing is done to say, "Hey! This game is going to change the way we see the FPS genre!" Not every game has to do that, but since this is an annual game, it really hurts the value. If you haven't bought the other, much better, more innovative games that have come out this year like Skyrim, Zelda, Uncharted, Gears, Rayman, Infamous or whatever, do yourself a favor. Get those instead and make yourself a better gamer. Fact is, There's no good reason to buy this if you bought black ops last year, but if you caved, to play with friends like I did, then there's no doubt you are in for a wild ride, and hours of fun!… Expand

    Cant believe I spent 60$ for a MW2 map pack. By far the worst game of the 2011 line up. I advise you to stay away from this game. Do yourself a favor and buy BF3, Skyrim or Uncharted 3. Those are games that developers actually took their time on unlike this rerun. Makes you think what did they really work on in the last 2 years because I see nothing new besides a new lame game mode.

    Disappointing end to the series.

    Campaign is not worthy of the Modern Warfare series, Modern Warfare 2 and COD4 had much better campaigns.

    Maybe next time, Activision.

    I think I've played this before...Oh yes, I've played this 3 times before this. They keep putting the same game over and over again claiming that they've changed things. Since Modern Warfare, which was groundbreaking, they just released the same game and decided to charge $60 for it. I think Activision has beat another horse to death.

The simple fact of seeing my character flapping his arm in a jogging motion as if running away from Godzilla, but only to find himself moving as though he had 100lbs weights straped to his leg is unreasonable, unlogical, and unnecessary. Why would you think that by trying to put a lot of buildings and corner on a small map would make it seem bigger? Your answer? NO! It does not again. The lighting on about half the maps are terrible, some of the lighting is the same through out most of the area. Same consistency, same shading/tint. What is wrong with that? Will, hmm... Let me see.. clearly everything. The graphics is also and issue. Minor downgrades of meshes, the texture to me also seem a bit dumb downed compared to Mw2. Now about the guns, what happen quick scoping? I understand some people feel this is an issue but why would you degrade a sniper rifle to the point where its unbearable to even have. To the point where the gun is practically useless? During my time online(Both PS3 and 360) I literally shot a player in the torso about 10ft away with a M107c a.k.a. the .50 cal(Damage on the gun stat clearly stats max damage) and the player turned around and shot me? I assure you this happened multiple times(Full 4 green bar). Do not get me wrong, I love the CoD franchise. I just hate what it has become.

    Also to you SledgeHammer, yes directly to you and I hope you read this. I do not know how hard or how little you worked on making this game you call Modern Warfare 3, or the sacrifices made or if any made at all, BUT was clearly too much to put effort on your behalf? The engine was already there for you! You didn't have to build an engine from the ground up. You clearly had a Year to draft artwork for the maps, design layouts, make a campaign storyline and retexture some guns. With as many well-educated people as you have it shouldn't be that hard. I also notice models of objects from Mw3 that are/is similar/from Mw2. Mainly was It to hard for you to try At ALL with passion for games to put in the slightest amount of sweat and blood into this game? I guess not eh? I don't blame you. You, just like Activision, just wants to make a quick buck with the smallest amount of energy spent by milking the CoD name and franchise. I bet if you sell milk with Call of Duty on it you would get 12yrs old fanboys flocking from all over wanting it. Good luck with CoD:Mw4 or CoD:Iron Wolf. Heard one of those is coming out again next year in 2012 by November again. No surprise. Same engine, new guns, new map right? Charge 60$ for what should be a 14.95$ map pack. "Can't fix what ain't broken" right? It ain't broken so no point in bothering with it, right? Nope. It's Call IMPROVEMENT,PROGRESSION. Too bad those words aren't in yours or Activision's Dictionary.

    There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
