Worst Call of Duty to date. Same exact game if compared to Modern Warfare 2. This could have been DLC for MW2. It's really sad how a developer can call this a new game just to make money off people.

Seriously the campaign is jaw dropping and filled with moments that are unforgettable. The fun Special Ops mode makes its second return and its just as great as ever with the new Survival mode that will surely make you return for more. Last but not least is the Multiplayer, the heart and soul of the series, with 16 new and impressive maps tons of new weapons, the new Strike Packages, Perks, attachments, equipment and challenges it makes for a fun experience that has almost unlimited replayability, even when the multiplayer gets chaotic and sometimes frustrating it still remains as the best Multiplayer Call of Duty has ever had. The graphics, despite being on the same engine, still holds up very well today, there are a few blurry textures when you get up close but its no big deal and the amount of detail is second to none. MW3 doesn't make any huge changes but it doesn't really need one, all of the small changes just help the game become closer to becoming one of the best Multiplayer shooters of all time. Great job Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games! Expand

Yes MW was great. It was a game changer for the franchise, with many industry changing features, it set the bar quite high. But that was 2007. And today we basically stall have the exact same game. A little bit of tweaking around the engine, little more complex models and a rock steady 60FPS. The game hasn't changed much. If you've played a MW game in the past you've played MW3... Im a huge COD fan, since day one the original came out, theres not many people that have been with the franchise that long but this is a disappointment. And honestly, who cares about single player, games like this are made to be played in competition, how can anyone enjoy the story when its so ridiculous and set piece after set piece. C'mon infinity ward. I could tell you slacked off the moment i ranked up to level 2 and heard that same annoying heavy metal jingle I've been hearing since 2007--- and every other sound, menu, animation, perks, kill streaks, etc....

-Good balances have been made in online gameplay.

-Maps are designed for PC and not console controllers.

-Engine is fast but f*cking ugly. (why are u still trying with that hideously implemented depth of field IW?)

-Feels like an overall hack job.

Il be playing BF3, enjoying its amazing sound design, looks, and over all diversity of gameplay. The meta score says something IW, stop begging people over twitter to vote higher.

Call of duty has been using the same engine and the same formula for 9 years now. It's beyond ridiculous. This game is no different than mw2. Oh sure, slap a few maps, few new modes, pull a campaign out of your ass, slap a pricetag and it's good to go. Just make sure "call of duty" is on the box so all the little kids know what to buy. Sad thing is, a good PC gamer could easily just mod MW2 to make it exactly like MW3. It's not hard since they're already identical. It wouldn't be so bad if it was selling for half the price, but $60 is just a complete rip-off. However way you look at, it could've been sold for 15 and they would STILL make profit. I'm glad this game is getting ripped to shreds on metacritic, it's good to know that there is some people who have class, decent taste, and some sense of value. Expand

It has the same cliched moments over and over again, the A.I is just as bloody stupid as ever, with team mates made to look like they are shooting at the enemy, but are actually shoting at nothing, leaving you pretty much by yourself having to do everything yourself. The Map designs are generic, its all been seen before. The Sound effects are good, but can get very, very annoying. Guns don't sound realistic, I would know I'm in the army. Its like a Michael Bay movie, explosives everywhere and alot of action, but my god is the story different no.

Multiplayer is the worst part about the game. It feels like a Map pack to MW2, the maps have the same basic design, You will constantly respawn in front of enemies, You can still shoot through thick steel or brick walls but can't shoot through paper thin materials or thin wood. The Perks are pretty much all the same. Killstreak system is different a bit, but my god, you don't feel rewarded in any way cause the killstreaks are handed out like your at some charity event. The Guns are very unbalanced, with some guns having very little fire power then others. The Attachments are very much the same. Its full of cheaters.

There was no effort put into this game, recyled material, untalented developer team who just physically can't think of anything new to do to the series.

All I can say is, if anyone actually still buys MW3 after reading all the negetive reviews, then they are a very boring bunch of people who want to play the same thing over and over again. There are way better games out there to play then this cheap peice of crap. I couldn't find many positives about this game, the voice acting was good and the multiplayer had some fun moments at the start, but I really couldn't believe how fast this game got boring. Feels like the multiplayer is more about getting killstreaks for yourself, the game does not encourage team work at all. Haven't played the BF3 singleplayer yet, but the Multiplayer is 100 times better then MW3 and way better then any other multiplayer i've ever player, get BF3 or just start player MW1 or 2 again, atleast you can get more fun out of those games. It's pathetic how they can churn out this game year after year, doing nothing but add some guns, textures and a new story.
I believe "trolls" are entirely justified calling it things like "Modern Warfare 1.3" or "Modern Warfare 2.5" - it is little more than a map pack and it bemuses me how every year people can go out and buy it for £40.

I lowered my expectations for MW3 because of how Black Ops turned out. Both being fun games, but hugely flawed due to Activision being so money hungry and not letting the developers really stretch their legs. From the time of release all I've played is multiplayer, and although it is addictive as its predecessors, it is addictive for the wrong reasons. Some of the reviews for this game say "more unlockables are needed, give me more" but that is the problem. There are way too many options with kill streaks/point streaks/perks that it takes the real fun out of what most people love about FPS. Take Battlefield 3 for example (ya, i know, direct competition), many improvements were made, some little ones coming straight from COD, but they left the core of the game play intact without "whoring out" the franchise and most importantly UPDATED AND IMPROVED GRAPHICS. As one reviewer mentioned the firings at IW being the root of this issue, I say it has little to do with that, and more to do with the addition of Sledgehammer. This game has less server issues than the last few releases, but there is far too much inconsistency with "hitmarkers" (shooting opponents with full clips and no results) and the general feel of shooting ANY gun in this game feels over tweaked, away from how the other MW's felt and the result is obvious; Sledgehammer tried to do too much.

Although my points here were spotty here, that is a direct result of what they have done to the gamers, and with this franchise. And even though I'll be labeled a hypocrite, i'll still be giving this game chance after chance due to many friends having the game and give the developers more chances to make updates to improve the gameplay.

Without this story I would have remained a silent part of what appears to be a majority of fans who are dissatisfied with the latest COD installment. MW3 IS the reason I'm quitting gaming altogether. I'm a COD multiplayer fanatic with a shameful amount of my life spent playing the game (MW and MW2) online. I didn't even play the campaigns for WAW, Black Ops, or MW3...went right to multiplayer and figure most serious COD players do the same. The campaign mode is simply rubbish that takes at most a day to finish. This isn't just a hit on MW3...the past 4 COD releases all have this issue.
MW3 is Black Ops 2 in regards to online gameplay. From the graphics, to the sounds, to the load-out system. Infinity Ward went from near perfection with MW/MW2 multiplayer interface to a poor attempt at improving on Treyarch's multiplayer interface. -Why, why, why add weapon proficiencies? You've made a once very usable weapon into a spray and pray device. The only useful perk is Kick...without this perk a once reasonably controllable assault rifle is useless from a moderate distance. You can fix this immediately by automatically applying the proficiencies to the weapon as they're unlocked....instead of only allowing a single proficiency. -Why make the maps bigger while making the players slower? Extreme conditioning isn't infinite and no Lightweight? Come on....
-The reticle design selection...straight ripoff from Black Ops...you could do better.
-One of my biggest concerns...shotguns are now considered a primary weapon...another ripoff from Black Ops. NO...I don't want to use the Overkill perk.
-Juiced may be the most useless death streak on these huge maps.
-Why do all the guns sound like 50 Barretts going off? -Why do grenades take so long to explode? Not feeling having to cook ever grenade thrown.
    -The maps are absolute mazes....
-Kill steaks...why 2 strike packages? You really think someone will utilize both in their custom classes? With each class allowing for custom strike packages, why not just put all the kill streaks in one big category?
-As you rank up, the emblem graphics are beyond weak.
Not sure the COD franchise could release another installment that would entice me enough to give it another try. After Black Ops and now MW3, I'm waiving the white towel.

    Insane!
MW3 is all about the single player and the BF3's single player DOES not compare to this epic hollywood style story.

I wonder what would happen if they make a movie out of this. This is the best MW yet...and it does deserve its hype!

A glorified map-pack. There hasn't been any significant improvements made since MW2. This game is the product of Activision's greed not an attempt to improve the series as a whole. Sure, it raps up the story but that's about its only redeeming quality.

This is the reason Hollywood is tanking, they create garbage and expect us to pay high dollar for it. This is why people have stopped going to the movie theaters, stopped purchasing DVD/Blu-ray when they release, instead they rent the movie for a $1.00 from Red Box or have a Netflix account, because the truth is this subtle trash isn't worth anything more than a couple months for a few moments of enjoyment. The problem is these industry heads seem to think that they have something special in their hands and we the consumers should pay top dollar for it. I have news for you Activision, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games & Glen Schofield (I pity you for asking someone to rate your game higher than it really deserves) this isn't a full game worth $64.80. The truth is its a map pack that should have been sold for $9.99 as part of COD4. Visually this game actually has worse graphics than COD4 on the PC. The textures aren't crisp and remind me of textures on a console based video game from last generation. While the graphics aren't entirely a big deal, I have to make a serious complaint against the match making service for ranked servers on the PC. This is a peer to peer connection, I feel like I am on a console and the constant disconnects or lag issues because the host doesn't have the bandwidth required to support a 12 man match is pathetic. Dedicated ranked servers should be made available, this would make the game much more enjoyable on the PC, and I think it would also benefit console users as well. They might have become accustom to this sort of problem and just accept it, but keep shoving the same crap down their throats and they too will eventually start thinking for themselves and walk away from this franchise. I will not purchase another COD game until Infinity Ward actually makes a full game and doesn't just decide to sell a map pack at full price. This game is about multiplayer and that's where most of the people will spend their time playing it. This single player crap of 5-6 hours for $64.80 is absurd. Truth me told I spent $22.62 on this game because of a promotion amazon was running, otherwise I would not own it right now. Expand

Did the other games feel like an expansion with more levels, weapons, and moves? Yes. Does this game feel like it actually took more away then it added? Yes. Also, I did pay or COD Elite with high hopes; however, I am disappointed in that also. Honestly, if you knew the game would sell that many copies, with that much hype, and that many pre-orders.... Expect a lot of traffic. Having voice chat constantly cutting out, lobbies drop, spec ops not work past the 1st level online, and Elite itself be down on launch just sours the experience. And please don't say it is a users connection speed, because nothing is worse then having almost 100mb download and 10mb upload, and still have a game choke. I'll admit Black Ops was fairly similar to Modern Warfare 2, but at least it was DIFFERENT. Modern Warfare 3 is a shameless re-usage of the same engine, even going as far as to use models from Call of Duty 4 in the campaign. While we're on the subject, how about that campaign. It's frustratingly short, and on top of that, the "profound, impacting" moments which laced the experience we're hardly just that at all. They came off as forced and almost bland. The only redeeming (using the term lightly) thing about Modern Warfare 3 is it's multiplayer. Keep in mind that I say loosely, as it's basically a slightly tighter and more varied Modern Warfare 2. That's it. That is literally all it is. Lets wrap it up, this isnt worth my time. What had potential to be something great ended up falling flat on it's face. Modern Warfare 3, or should I say Modern Warfare 2.5, throws up a big sign that says Activision needs to hang up its Call of Duty hat unless it can bring something new to the table. A score of three may be a little harsh, but it really is almost exactly the same as Modern Warfare 2. Hate to be tough, but I also hate paying $60 for the same thing I played two years ago. Expand

A short but full filling single player campaign, an entire co-op mode involving 16 hard hitting spec op missions and a leveling up RPG style spec ops "survival mode" along with an amazing multiplayer makes it hard to see what's to could complain about. If you never liked the Call of Duty style shooter than you probably will not enjoy MW3, although I still highly think you should pick it up!

Do not listen to ultra negative user reviewers, almost everyone who would give it a 10 out of 10 are too busy playing the heck out of the game to come on here. If this the example of a "terrible game" I think you had it out to hate this game no matter what. The main complaints are saying the game is rehash. Really? Have you played the amazing games such as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Metal Gear, Resident Evil and The Legend of Zelda?

Having beat the main story campaign, completed tonight some of the spec op missions with a buddy on veteran and been playing the multiplayer like mad to learn the maps and the way to play the game most effectively--I can easily say--welcome back, Modern Warfare--and also--Makarov, you better be ready--we are all ready for you!

I now realize that I will not support another call of duty game until they change the formula, or go back to their old roots. The various modes are incredibly fun, my favorite being Kill Confirmed (god I love Kill Confirmed), and the progression through ranks is fulfilling. You feel like you are accomplishing something great in every match. It would have been cool if they had vehicles like in BF3 (I do barrel rolls all day in those jets. I suck at flying helicopters though....) but MW3 offers a solid online that I feel is the best in the series. Definitely give this game a try. You won't be disappointed.

Let's spend minimal effort changing our game from the previous iteration. Make a new campaign that is lack luster at best. Doesn't compare to the current generation of games in the graphics/audio departments.

Basically just trying to keep a franchise alive with minimal effort, yet charging full price. Pathetic.

Firstly the campaign, the end of MW2's campaign was intense and epic and MW3's starts with this one left off and continues to get better and better from there, while sometimes it can get repetitive fighting wave after wave of enemies like most shooters this game makes up for that with their intense sequences and amazing set pieces. The stories well done and is a satisfying end to the trilogy running at about 5-6 hours on regular (easy, regular, hard and harder)

Spec Ops- This gametype was in MW2 it has much of the same in MW3 but this time they have added a new edition with a horde mode where you fight endless wave after wave of progressively harder enemies. For the people wondering this isn't much like the Zombie Mode from Black Ops because Zombies had it own theme, story, and Maps from the multiplayer where as MW3's horde mode doesn't. I'd compare it mor to Gears of War 3's Horde mode but in 1st person of course.

Multiplayer- This is really what your going to get your hours and moneys worth out of this game there are a few tweaks here and there to improve balancing but its pretty much the same formula as MW2 they have new ideas that have improved the gameplay like new game modes, perks and new ways to get killstreaks. However I'm disappointed they didn't use the good ideas Black ops had like their currency system because with that system no1 was at a disadvantage depending on what level they are and by not having currency they don't have wager matches any more either which I also liked. So the multiplayer is good and been very enjoyable. also I haven't come across any boosters or hackers yet so thats a plus.

Overall a great game and definitely one of the games to pick up this holiday

But when it appears that the new IW and Sledgehammer took a cue from Medal of Honor (2010) in their multiplayer creation instead of carefully constructing balanced, strategic maps, you better believe fans will be irate because that's solely why people play COD: MULTIPLAYER. That is how nearly five years ago why this franchise became so well-known and adorned: innovative features in their multiplayer game. It is so apparent that the new people in the MW franchise had no experience in creating playable maps. It's so bad that even Black Ops's maps shine in comparison. I remember hearing that these maps were specifically designed to eliminate campers. You just have to laugh and scratch your head considering the various rooms and narrow corridors noobz can fork out. The quality of maps gradually declined after each subsequent installment. I think if the new developers want to redeem themselves from their ill-fated multiplayer design, they need to analyze and learn from the genius of IW 1.0 and understand what it takes to make truly competitive maps in order to make a QUALITY map pack instead of spray and pray mazes--because that's essentially what the new maps are! I seriously doubt BF3 fanboys are flaming this board too. It's really that bad, people. If the newbie developers, and Activision for that matter, want to continue the franchise, they better take a cue from the original IW and NOT TREYARCH in terms of multiplayer maps. Expand

It is filled with intense action sequences, making players left speechless. The graphics engine is the same as the others, but this time it is more polished, and there is also destructible environments (Don't expect BF3 destruction). The sound is very good, along with the score and voice acting. Special Ops mode is similar to MW2s Spec Ops. Players are assigned objectives, such as rescue hostages, kill HVTs, recover data, etc. It is a great mode to play with a buddy, but some missions felt repetitive, possibly due to the fact I was playing them on Veteran, which was frustrating. Also, there is a new mode in Spec Ops where players fight off countless number of waves, just like zombies. Players can gain money by killing enemies and surviving waves. With the money that you earn, you can buy airstrikes, support squads, weapons, etc. It is fun for the first 10-15 waves, but starts to get a little old, just like most horde based modes. Multiplayer is what people would expect. It still has that Call of Duty feel, which there is nothing wrong with that. They kept the same formula and polished things that were problems in the past Call of Duty games. There are new modes, kill streaks and customization that will satisfy many players.

The overall experience is great. Yes there are some flaws like in every other game, but it does not make COD MW3 a terrible game. Some people just play online, which I think is a problem with the ratings. Do not make a review on a game when you have not played the full game. Also, it is not IW or Sledgehammers fault that stupid people ruin the experience. Don't blame them for something that they have no control of.

Lets be honest, this game and MW2 were nothing but expansions for Call of Duty 4. the fact that Infinity Ward and Activision think they can just repackage the same game year in and year out is SAD! the game looks bad being run of an older game engine, and plays even worse. All thos big name game sites were clearly bought off by the two companies. THIS IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY!!!

One has only to play the Call of Duty games since World at War to see the budget for the game is largely dedicated to voice actors and marketing, with very little put into actual game development.

This trend continues with Modern Warfare 3, a game that has already broke new records in sales just like its predecessors, yet shows no signs, while playing, that the game is more than a budget

The campaign is over quickly. It has some fun moments, but it's so on rails it could be a Kinect game with very little tweaking.

The online is the true disappointment. The netcode performs poorly under the best conditions, and the best conditions occur very rarely. The peer to peer network system, coupled with the poor netcode and matchmaking, make the online multiplayer a game of chance rather than skill. It really just boils down to who has the lag advantage.

It's my opinion that releasing these games yearly isn't terrible in and of itself, but Activision has no appreciation for its fanbase, and they just under deliver over and over again, praying that their over the top marketing will net them the sales they want.

These reviews of 0 are quite ridiculous, but so are the 9 and 10 reviews. The game contains a lot of content for your $60, but not one piece of that content is anything more than mediocre.

Multiplayer is as epic and ridiculously addictive as you would expect, certainly blowing away the competition from another certain game that came out recently which I will leave unnamed. They added so many things to the game, most of it being nuance. This is still Call of Duty, but it's the most well done game in series history. The maps are very well done. Sadly Modern Warfare 3 is basically Modern Warfare 2 with 16 new maps, a few new killstreaks, modes, perks, and leveling mechanic. This may seem like a substantial amount of new content, but is it really worth $60? In my opinion Call of Duty has taken a turn onto the sports genre road. Theres a new one every year, with just a few new additions to warrant a new release. Now the Modern Warfare campaign for me was always just so-so. The huge set pieces and high octane action are straight out of a Bay film. But really the huge explosions and crazy action can't really hide the badly written, and sometimes confusing, story. Spec Ops was first introduced to us in Modern Warfare 2 and im glad to say its back. For me Spec Ops was more entertaing and rewarding playing with a friend, then raging at a other people online. They have also introduced a new mode, Survial, which isn't at all original, bascially a horde mode, where waves upon waves of enemies came at you. This mode is being implemented into almost every FPS now a days, its fun yes, but i would like to see something new for a change. The graphics haven't really changed much, if at all, from Modern Warfare 2. A quick glimpse at a screen with Modern Warfare 3, could easily be mistaken for its older counterpart. The soundtrack is nothing to special, but it does have its moments. There are many rehashed noises when firing guns, reloading, etc. but thats to be expected. Overall this addition to the Call of Duty franchise feels more like a shallow expansion than a full fledged game. Activision is going to end up running Call of Duty into the ground with these yearly outings (Guitar Hero/Tony Hawk), hopefully upcoming entries into the franchise can make a fresh start into something that has become very stale in the past years. There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class.
