Its the same game as MW2... seriously guys after a few hours you'll be bored. All they changed in the game is a new campaign (which is only like 4 hours long) and a few minor additions. In a nutshell, this is honestly just an expensive dlc pack. Save your $60 and wait for skyrim or something.

It's unfortunate that hopes and expectations can't stop a great franchise from derailing. I made this account after seeing Glen Schofield try to get fanboys to up the rating, although zero is pretty harsh, I can't praise this game in anyway. The kill streak systems have some nice ideas but the lack of a Nuke is unacceptable; Let Treyarch make the diet CoD games for those who complain about balance, sure MW2 could get ridiculous at times because of nukes, secondary shot guns and quick scoping but guess what? That's what gave it a pulse. When you take away the manic elements that made multiplayer unpredictable and fresh every time around you're left with a giant lifeless corpse without a pulse. Despite all of this, I was hoping that the game would at least deliver some entertaining maps that could compete with high rise or crash, but the developers killed my hopes there too, though they are definitely a step above the maps in Black Ops. Call of duty continues to be the fun addicting experience that people love. It runs smoothly and has excitement throughout. Spec ops is a welcome addition and the ability to play splitscreen is much appreciated in a generation where very few developers consider the people who play with those that they know, not just random people around the world.

I would have given this game, maybe a 5 out of 10. But year after year video game websites such as IGN give this game the title, "Game of the Year" and so on. Which leads me to believe either A. they are idiots, or B. they are being paid.

I am a Battlefield fan, and I used to be a Call of Duty fan. With all "fanboy" aside. DICE brings new stuff to the table, while IW rehashed used material.

The straw that broke the camels back on my ZERO rating. Was the idiot Schofield begging for metacritic reviews on Twitter. Schofield, eat my nasty nuts, your game deserves a score of 2/10.

The physics feel cheap and flimsy, as the guns do not actually recoil realistically and animations look unnaturally robotic. Being able to go full auto at someone with a machine gun while having the reticule barely budge makes the gunplay feel unrealistic and cheap. Sound effects are equally messy; gunfire sounds more like a fruitblender than anything else. Firing the weapons has no weight behind them due to the muffled, unrealistic sound effects and the robotic physics, giving little to no satisfaction in landing hits. At 60 bucks, IW is robbing us of our money. This is almost the same game, with the same engine, the same graphics, and same gameplay as the previous two. I feel like there is an immense lack of effort and dedication put in by the design team; in its third iteration, i expect a game to at the very least have technological improvements over its predecessors. But even there I am disappointed. I find it hilarious that the Glen Schofield has the balls to ask for higher user ratings on Metacritic after pumping out this product on so much hype. So here I am, voicing my opinion to spite him when I otherwise would have stayed silent.

In addition, COD: Black Ops provided the option to practice against AI bots in offline multiplayer, COD: MW3 does not allow this. Given the trouble that COD: MW3 is having with multiplayer matchmaking this is something that needs to be added. If they want this series to stay strong they need to take the first step and do something original like when they first released MW1 because right now its getting sad.

It is hard to believe that this game has gotten so many negative reviews from "fans". If anything, it shows how this BF3 v MW3 has affected peoples judgement. To give a game a 0 or a 1 score means that it is utterly unplayable, so their no excuse for giving this game those scorelines unless A) you have not played it and do not intend to because you are so hung up on BF3 or B) you wish to drive the score down intentionally. Both are inexcusable. It is clear that MW3 is a fantastic piece of software! Universal accliam from critics should tell yo usomething. Agreed, the series could use some freshening up, but to say that it is entirely stale is a gross misstatement. The graphics are fantastic as always, the action is explosive and over the top and will keep you on your seat, and the multiplayer is a real treat. Now, look at what made Half-Life 2 game of the decade, it did not really introduce anything new, but it fixed what was wrong with Half-Life. Half-Life's expansions added what was new, Half-Life 2 fixed everything that was wrong.

That was the issue with Modern Warfare 2, while Call of Duty 4 set the table and its expansions added new maps with new gameplay, that is what MW2 did, it did not fix anything, but it added new stuff. Infinity Ward fixed that, they did add new modes but they knew that to stay relevant in the video game biz, they needed to fix everything up.

They did add new modes, these modes were strikingly similar to other modes, yes, but the fine line of distinctions is what made them fun to play. Now I bet you in Modern Warfare 4 (they should drop Call of Duty, because that title is now Treyarch's), they will add new graphics and they will add more distinctions between the gameplay.

Look at everything they fixed: killstreaks, gameplay, audio, servers. You see, blame their work on MW2 for what is wrong, if they did their technique for MW3 on MW2, we would have seen a far better game, but does that stop MW3 from being a good game.

I mean even if they are just fixing everything, they took the time to add new features: many new modes, many new guns and the graphics run at 60 FPS. Lets go back to modes, they will add more distinctions in the next installment of Modern Warfare. I also expect Treyarch to do this as well with their next WW2 or Cold war game. Now to guns, every gun is the same, its just how you use it. Now to graphics, this is the hardest thing to get finished and make better, I bet you if they were to match the game's graphics up to lets say Uncharted 3, the IW Engine would overload and it would take them up to November 2012 to finish the game, they will advance the graphics for the next game, don't worry, but by adding 60 FPS they did do a good job on fixing the graphics that they already had.

Don't listen to the negative reviews, actually play the game for yourself.

What this means is that the gameplay is the same, and the graphics are the same. The updates to the game, core gameplay, and networking code are what defines this year's Call of Duty.

What they have updated does make the game play better and encourage teamwork; however, with the core gameplay vastly unchanged, the game still promotes you to play as a lone wolf. The map design is up for debate, but my take on the new maps is that they are great. They flow really well and I never have problems finding enemies and rarely get snuck up on. The main thing they changed to the core gameplay is how strong the weapons are, and how they can be used. The weapons are very strong and this is not a good thing. The more powerful weapons allows anyone who is new to the series to easily get lots of kills, even against veteran players. Shotguns are back to being a primary weapon, and I'm very happy with the decision. The maps allow shotguns, which have also gotten a damage buff, to preform very well and suits anyone who like likes to move around the map often. The networking code that the game runs on isn't very good either. In other game I play, it says I have a perfect connection, but in MW3 I have a horrible connection and it is very hard to find matches despite it being a brand new game. The networking cod the game runs on also causes the hit detection for bullets to be terrible. When you are further away your bullets usually hit an enemy, but when you are at a close to medium-close range, it takes a while for the bullets to hit someone even when aiming down your sights.

The multiplayer overall captures the fun gameplay of MW2, and the new maps make for fast paced and intense matches, but the game does suffer to some problems. The miniscule updates made to the game, core gameplay changes, and networking all make this game feel like an overpriced expansion pack. If you are a person that has played a Call of Duty game before, this game doesn't have much changed and I would recommend buying it used or at a cheaper price. If you are a new player to Call of Duty I would recommend this game, but don't be surprised at the problems the game has. MW3 was supposed to be a blockbuster game, but it only feels like an expansion pack to MW2 that costs too much money and has some problems that shouldn't be there.

I was hugely unimpressed with MW2 however, although I did sill enjoy the game, I felt it was a huge step back. It didn't breed the competetive nature that COD4 did. There was no balance within the weapons. Using a sniper for example, was almost pointless due to the accuracy of Scar+RDS.

Gimmicky things like scavenger perk & kill streaks made camping the most effective way to play.

However, MW3 was hugely built up - I heard from friends they were going to find a middle-ground between 4 & MW2.

I anticipated this game greatly, a new MW, which would hopefully learn from the mistakes of MW2 and hopefully a game to blow the 2 previous titles out the water.

HOW WRONG I WAS. This game didn't just let me down immensly, I have never felt so ripped off by a product in my life.

I know the gaming industry isn't going to develop a new engine everytime a developer releases a sequel - but as gamers we at least expect some gameplay improvement & new features.

Lazy would be an understatement. The gameplay is EXACTLY, i repeat EXACTLY the same. Most the guns are the same. The maps are new. And they have a new storyline for offline.

And that, i'm afraid is MW3 in a nutshell.

I'm taking it back tomorrow wiith my reciept for a full refund, and activision/IW deserve to be investigated by some sort of watchdog body for this effort.

Yes, it's the same moderate quality textures, same unrealistic and pathetic gun sounds, same single player thats as linear as the line y=x., and that's a real shame. Activision's desire for a yearly release gives the developers no time for any real innovation or enough time for a new engine, this is what lets down this game. It's no longer fun to pay for a brand new game, along with 3 compulsory map packs or the elite subscription if you wish to avoid being 'kicked' from MP games, its becoming greedy. The included maps are tacky, small and repedative from my experience on them, and alas, it is clear that IW haven't listened to fans as the dreaded 'Noob Tube' returns as an early unlock which is perhaps my least favourite thing about call of duty. Graphics (7.5/10): Perhaps not as good as MW2, but a clear step up from Black Ops, the engine however doesn't allow for the dynamic lighting that some rivals to this franchise and the textures are clearly copy and pasted from earlier games. As usual, the guns look great themselves, the few high quality textures are devoted to firearms which look much better than anything else, albeit, not quite as good as BF3. One thing I really like is the 60fps, it leaves the game play smooth at all times, and never seems to dip.

Sound (1/10): Pathetic is the only way to describe them, unrealistic and completely wrong gun sounds return. There are also no dynamic sounds, so a sniper rifle on the other side of a map, 3 blocks away, sounds the same as if it were 5 metres away. Very, very dissappointing.

Multiplayer (4/10): A quote from MW2: "Same stuff, different day", which is a perfect description of the multiplayer aspect of MW3....its nearly IDENTICAL! Some different guns, some not, same sounds, slightly redesigned maps, same game modes practically. There is a huge hype behind "Kill Confirmed" mode, which would be great for a communicating team, however, I'm told that this has been taken from Crysis 2 (not 100% sure on that) plus a slightly different version of CTF. These add little to the game. The same stupid killsteaks, including the annoying Juggernaught that appeared in spec ops last time. Again, in a few months time, be prepared to shell out US$15/$AU23 for the first of 3 map packs that if avoided will see you kicked from every server (or $50 for the elite service). The maps too, all seem identical bar the NYC map, which, combined with the tiny size ( 6 players per team max usually and the playing area is tiny) leaves one bored VERY quickly. Ah yes, to allow for new and unskilled players, noob tube returns from its nerfing in Black Ops to again leave me wanting to tear my hair out in frustration. "Quickscoping", another frustrating 'innovation' has returned to haunt me, an exploit of the over-helpful aim assist. The P2P servers are a clear step down from dedicated ones, they limit the number of players and lag like hell in Australia, I hate it, it's not as fun as past games.

Offline (3/10): Meh, another over the top, unoriginal story. Unbelievably short, finished on easy in 4 and half hours, contrary to most "professional" critics who say it takes 8. However, at least IW tried to do something new with a rip off of zombies along with some more co-op spec ops, however, no co-op will ever compare to Treyarch's Zombies. As a whole, the offline component appears half baked and tired.

Overall, I was going to give this game 6 or 7 out of 10, however seeing as its part of a series, it is a rediculous copy of the last one, hence its low rating. The "professional" critics who raved so highly need to get a grip and loose their bias, as a once CoD fanboy myself, I am very disappointed and will be trying out BF3 in the near future as I return this 'new' game. A pathetic money grab, if you enjoy CoD, play MW2 or MW1, they're by far better than this.

Most expensive map pack ever made. CoD map packs are usually around $15, yet they somehow thought that tacking on a 5 hour SP campaign would be worth the extra $45. Looking at it strictly as an expansion to Modern Warfare 2? Its a fantastic stand alone expansion. Only thing I despise more than studios charging $60 for map pack expansions is the foolish consumers that gobble it up.

I've never played Battlefield 3 or MW2 so I can only compare it to Black Ops. My review pertains only to the multiplayer game:

Pros: 1) better graphics and audio than Black Ops (e.g. environment has more detail and guns don't sound like toys). 2) Killstreaks have more options and are customizable by class. 3) Kill Confirmed is a fun tweak on Team Deathmatch. As for pros, that's about it,

As for pros, that's about it, in my opinion. Cons: 1) equipment and gun attachments/perks must level up (as opposed to purchasing with CoD points), so if you prefer a motion sensor--sorry, no way you're getting it until right before you prestige. 2) Sound quality of players' mics is poor. 3) Server disconnects/times out way more often than Black Ops. 4) I'm signed up for CoD Elite, but have yet actually see what it does because whenever log in, it kicks me out again. 5) Theater mode sucks: there's no first-person view for other players, and as far as I can tell, you can only watch your own games. If you want to watch other good players' games to get tips, you're out of luck.
    6) Many of the maps seem to be thrown together haphazardly and are not interesting.

The gun/equipment leveling up, server problems, and theater mode are the biggest flaws in my opinion. Overall, I'm sure it'll provide plenty of entertainment, but the shortcomings of the multiplayer experience are heavily outweighed by the improvements.

Firstly I have spent quite a few hours really giving this game a go and I have concluded that I don't really like it. There are a number of issues with it so far, although I am sure many of them may be patched soon. Firstly the spawning is atrocious. You literally get killed and spawn right on the enemies shoulders, meaning you get killed over and over at your spawn. If that doesnt happen you spawn near the battle or right where you were just killed. Yes this happened in Black ops and people complained about the spawn too, but honestly it was so much better than this. At least in Black ops you spawned on one side of the map seperating both teams for a little bit before both teams went back to the battle zones to recommence the battle. Not only this but when using the Microphones to speak the quality is terrible, it was always perfect on Black ops and has always been terrible on both MW2 and now on MW3. It is also taking ages to find games, making me wait 20 minutes to join one, although again this happened with Black ops. The problem with this series is that the gameplay is to fast paced, the enemies are hard to identify, with enemy players disappearing and then reappearing out of nowhere to literally blow you away. Often an enemy magically appears right behind you after getting a few kills. The only way I have gotten my killstreaks so far is by camping a little bit and shooting from range. The maps are clunky and buildings are in odd positions, the maps don't flow properly at all. What happened to COD 4 and Black ops simplicity. They were so easy to store in your memory, for everyone, making gameplay fun. I see a lot of people and hear a lot of people complaining about the above on their mics mid game, so it isnt just me thinking that. Black ops seemed to cater for a broader audience, people who were not good at the game and people who were brilliant. Many of the best scoring MW3 players seem to be taking advantage of glitches within the game to get ahead of everyone else. Black ops is much more fun in that when you are not doing well you can sit back and try sniping for example, as the maps allowed this. It to me required skill to kill opponents where as this game is so fast its a case of luck. I was getting someawesome scores during one match with 40 kills plus on domination, but then followed this up with 30 deaths. It is so inconsistent and unbalanced. I do find the game fun though and recommend it to all COD fans as a temporary title to keep you going until major improvements are made. But don't expect this title to last long. Look at the vast improvement from WAW and Black ops and from COD 4 and MW2. We need new killstreak rewards, new maps, new locations, new guns, new gun sounds, new characters to control. Black ops was a great game because it was set in a different era, utilising different methods of warfare. I believe the Modern warfare franchise needs to end here and Infinity Ward need to develop a brand new series, set during a different time period, with brand new everything. I will however applaud infinity Ward for introducing point streaks, allowing say a player to get two kills and capture a flag and recieve a UAV etc. Also ranking your guns up is a lot of fun. I find myself wanting to play this game the most right now, but I honestly think that once I have given it a good month of gameplay, which I believe is fair, ill be back on Black ops having fun, even if I am not doing too well. To sum this game up and the whole engine in general, there is to much going on for the type of engine being used. Expand

Spent a couple hours with it last night. I was skeptical of the outrage that people showed over this so-called "$60 expansion" pack, but I'm starting to think they're spot on. The maps contain your standard third-world village, snow facility, construction site... really just re-hashes of the previous game's maps. The engine is more dated and the graphics are worse than the reviews let on. I was quite surprised, but it does not look like a game that was released in 2011. It's a shame that this will probably be the all-time best-selling game in a few months, because it certainly does not deserve that honor, but will be fun if you're looking for an arcade-style shooter rather than a simulator.

I also never noticed the kids/swearing/slurs/degenerates quite like I did last night. Compared to the other games out there, its quite jarring and getting quite old. Or perhaps I'm just getting old.

If you must have CoD, then this is a no-brainer, but if you're on the fence, you might as well stick with MW2 and keep prestiging (it's essentially the same thing) or move to BF3, like I did. It's really hard to recommend this at a $60, $50 or even $40 price tag.

I've owned all the CoDs of the past few years on PS3 (since CoD4) and this is definitely the slickest, smoothest and fastest, although once I've prestige once I tend to start to get bored of them.

The maps are great. They're varied and bigger than before. The MP part of the game flies. The graphics are slightly improved (think there's new lighting FX) with better textures and environments. It does feel very familiar, but for me thats a good thing and I believe people would be moaning if it were too different. For me, CoD should feel like CoD and this is definitely COD!

Graphically, I'm always a little disappointed by any game (kinda feel like I want everything to visually be a generation of console better), but whilst this maybe isn't graphically the best game out there it does look truly great and should score highly on that front. It's also easy to spot things whilst running or panning and easy to see where you are going - not sure why but some games (Crysis 2, BF3) whilst maybe slightly better graphically seem far too visually busy and 'pixelly' for me making it nearly impossible to spot things and see where you're going... maybe that's more of a frame rate issue though as MW3 runs at a very smooth 60fps.

If you don't own MW2 already this is definitely a must-buy and I'd score it with a 9+
If you own MW2 then view this game as more of a technical and graphical along upgrade with 16 new maps and I'd give it a strong 8. You know what to expect before you play it.
If you own Black Ops already, then I think whilst familiar, MW3 is definitely head and shoulders above Black Ops and I'd rate it with a 8.5.

If you own BF3, then I think it would be a tough call to warrant buying this as well, although they are very different. To me MW3 feels much more like an adrenaline fuelled, arcade, high octane run and gun game and takes itself less seriously than certain other titles.

    Hope that helps!

Sorry, nothing new to add to this review about MW3, it just plain sucks. Worst of the entire series and that says a lot. Worst multiplayer maps. Shortest single player campaign. Graphics that are now simply dated.

Sure, I buy the same laundry detergent to wash my clothes every time. It does what I expect it to do. That doesn't mean I should pay $60 for it, and it certainly doesn't mean I have fun doing the laundry.

I do not understand where you would get such a score from, perhaps all of you are just die hard Battlefield fans that are trying to degrade Call of Duty, or you are just angry at the fact that you can't get more than ten kills in a given match? I have been playing Call of Duty since 2007 (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare), and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is one of the best in the series. I say one of the best because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 probably has the slight edge being that most of its features are the basis of MW3 but to consider MW3 to be an expensive DLC for MW2 is completely nuts, because MW3 offers a ton of new content and features. Spec Ops Survival Mode is really good and online multiplayer has been improved. In my opinion and in the opinion of many others, MW2 was one of the best multiplayer games ever made, and by sticking to this winning formula MW3 will prove to be a huge success as well. With the addition of new killstreaks (Osprey, Juggernaut Suit, Overwatch Helicopter, etc.), the integration of a completely new killstreak rewards system, ability to upgrade and level up your weapons, and the addition of completely new weapons, multiplayer has never been so addicting. The graphics are the same as MW2 for the most part, although the maps appear to have more detail to them. The majority of maps take place in urban enivironments that provide a lot of cover and distractions compared to the MW2 maps where the majority took place in vast, open areas (reason why so many people camped in MW2). The maps in MW3 seem to be larger than the maps in Black Ops, but smaller than the maps in MW2. The maps are pretty good and if you are a Call of Duty Elite member you will be receiving many more additional maps over the course of the year. Overall this game is very solid and is a must have for anyone that enjoys playing online multiplayer games. The only drawbacks of the game are that the campaign lacks depth, the servers for online multiplayer are having issues currently (the Hot Fix system developed for Black Ops will solve this issue very soon with an update), and I would have liked to see a couple of large open maps such as the ones in MW2 just to mix it up a bit. I have to give MW3 a 10/10. MW3 integrates the best features of Black Ops with MW2 to bring you the best Call of Duty yet. Expand

The campaign took me 4 hours and 40 minutes on Regular difficulty, I took my time loking for hidden intel of which I collected 22 of the 46 pieces, it's the shortest Call of Duty campaign yet and the shortest FPS campaign I've certainly ever played. It's full of impressive set pieces with buildings falling down around the player's linear path, but these superficial big budget set pieces barely hide to anyone with experience with MW or MW2 that so much content from them is recycled with just a few minor edits made to the textures to fool the player into thinking what they're seeing is new (case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5dsOn06w1s - an entire building from CoD4), this goes for character models, animations, weapons, vehicles, gameplay sequences (for example the boat secion in MW2), a huge amount of content is reused and the game seems to be built around what they could recycle more than what they could create from scratch. The lack of originality or even intention to be original is present throughout the entire game. The story itself is actually quite enjoyable and feels as much a sequel to CoD4 and MW2, making it tie together nicely as a trilogy, though some sections make it feel more like a fanfic than a true sequel (considering that most of the people who worked on MW2 left and had nothing to do with MW3), the last mission was more of a QTE filled joke than a satisfying conclusion. I wonder how different it would've turned out had 40 of the key staff from IW, the original and only true CoD developer, due to Activision's disgusting treatment of the series, the staff and their creation. I won't even go to the clunkily added controversial scene involving the death of a random child that felt tacked on or the fact that everyone the player kills in the campaign is either African or Russian.

Spec Ops is a mixed bag, the missions are a mix of fun and terrible, and the Veteran difficulty is like that of the campaign, a very lazily added hard difficulty where the player dies to psychic enemies in around 3 bullets, usually within a second of peeking out from cover (and by peeking I mean moving, as there is still no lean function). The survival mode however is a lot of fun, it works well as two player co-op and a lot of the tedium from the other survival mode in the series, Zombies, is removed by taking out the luck factor with the amount of ammo the player can get and which weapons they acquire. There's a lot of fun to be had here with a friend and it runs smoothly online, the same can't be said for the multiplayer though.

In the previous Call of Duty, Black Ops, quickscoping was removed on the basis it's a cheap exploit of the game's aim assist, and that was a good call, though it annoyed many kids who like to do it in MW2. They brought this back in MW3 to please those kids and without regard for the quality of their game's online, this sums up their approach to the multiplayer. As a reskin of MW2 it of course plays quite similarly, they've made attempts to better balance the game with how effective the knife, grenade launchers and killstreak rewards are (which amongst quickscoping ranked as the biggest complaints of MW2's multiplayer) and the new point streak system is a nice addition, but all of the technical problems with this peer hosted, laggy mess with poor hit detection and terrible matchmaking still remain, taking a lot of the fun out of playing it, along of course with the huge focus on player's stats (made worse by in-depth stat tracking) that has most players approaching the game in as cheap a way as possible to camp themselves to a high kill/death ratio. The new game modes aren't actually to original either, some of them may as well credit other older and more recent games considering they're so close to them in design. The map design itself is a campfest, designed by Raven Software as after the majority of IW including all its creative and technical talent it took the few left at IW and other Activision developer Slegehammer Games to design the bulk of the game and they needed help fitting map design into their tight schedule, as of course a Call of Duty has to be out every single Novemeber in order to monopolise on the Christmas sales.

Lazily made rehash that might as well urinate on the grave of the original Infinity Ward, Activision's approach to this franchise is a good representation of everything that's wrong with the game industry right now.

The multiplayer offers nothing really new (Team Defender is good though), the maps are terrible - disjointed, cluttered and lacking any flow or indication that thought has been put into them. There are maybe 4-5 decent maps (IMO) but others may disagree on which they are.

Anyway, my advice is: if you liked MW2, stick with it and keep £44 in your pocket. If you don't have MW2 then buy a second-hand copy of Black Ops which is FAR better multiplayer-wise. If you buy this then all you'll have is a sense of disappointment, a feeling of Deja-vu and a lighter wallet.

I think the COD franchise/series has reached an inglorious end as I can't see it recovering from the various developer upheavals. Sad day.

Yes, it is similar to MW. Yes, a lot of the sounds are the same. Yes the game engine is the same. Forgive me, but why is this a bad thing??? The best quote i've found to describe this so far is as follows 'MW3 is evolution, not revolution.' They've taken a phenomenally popular/successful product and added more of the same. MORE. They didn't take this game and make it worse than MW2 so why give it such low review marks? Simple fact is if you enjoy MW or any fast paced online action agmes you're pick this up and love it. The game engine runs at a solid 60fps and looks incredibly smooth. Granted, in comparison to the graphics of Crysis2 or BF3 it's not up there. It looks better than MW2 (albeit marginally) and runs much faster than BF3, particularly on multiplayer (no screen tearing or other glitches that I've seen so far). The maps seem tighter encouraging more close quarters combat and it seems a little more frenetic; you dare not stay still in case someone blasts you from any and all angles. It's far superior to Black Ops which had a terrible multiplayer in my opinion. Then of course there's spec ops which, either on split screen or online, is fantastically fun to play. It's short, sharp with massive amounts of replayability and some great missions (MileHigh Jack in particular is a blast!) And then there's suvival mode. I read somewhere that this was an 'imitation of the Zombie's mode that falls flat'. I can't disagree more. I loved it, either in co-op or in single player. It's a new dimension to MW and is a welcome addition. There's a lot of replaybility as you level up and acquire different weapons, armour, air support, etc. MW3 is big, it's loud and it's all about the action. The entire package is huge; a 4 - 6 hour campaign with a massive online multiplayer plus 16 spec ops missions and a huge survival mode. I'm struggling to understand the 270 negative comments (at time of writing). For me, it's an essential purchase which represents excellent value and is THE multiplayer experience on console. SCORE: 9/10 - was going to give it 8 because the graphics aren't up there with the competitors but the size of the package puts this back up to the 9's for me. Expand

I knew this would happen eventually. Activision using the same game engine year after year, treating this series as if its Guitar Hero, another series they ran into the ground. Activision is good at making money, but they have no idea what it means to be a gamer. They are out of touch, and this game is proof of that.

Appalled by review scores. Battlefield gets ripped on the fact that they added a singleplayer mode to what is essentially a multiplayer only game, just as an addition to add value to the game, yet Activision gets away with this crap every year. It's all about the money, and they're making a lot of it.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
