I for one am tired of being fed the same old tripe year in, year out after being promised so much in the lead up to each game. I have fallen for this rubbish too many times, I've returned my copy of the game and that's the end of Call of Duty for me. Once a superb title that has fallen victim to greed and laziness.

I swear to god this is the exact same CoD I have been playing for the last 5 years! Nothing ever seems to change in this game including the predictable and unoriginal plotline. Multiplayer is literally a rehash, very few changes to it except for 2 game modes. People don't spen your money on this greedy developer's game so they can whither away.

It is nearly the same exact game as Call of Duty and I just paid a total of $115 within the last year. This is the same recycled game. At least be innovative like BF3. Think I am bias? Just search online like I should have, perks 90% same, weapons, 90% same, MP maps feel the same. Very unforunate.

Imagine taking the same route to work and back every day, that is this franchise right now

Imagine taking the same route to work and back every day, that is this franchise right now with MW3, nothing changed at all. False promises. Can't even play better that it's last installment.

IGN's reviews are clearly BOUGHT and PAID for. Activision has ruined CoD, do not support this game as I have mistakenly and previously ill-informed.

Quite possibly one of the worst CoDs ever made. Cant even give this points for effort since its clearly a ctrl-c ctrl-v game. all the maps seem to promote obnoxious camping gameplay and some of the guns are still overpowered beyond belief. Unless you're new to the CoD series then I wouldn't even bother with this.

if you feel differently, please let me know why. i love talking about games and i love making them. A good game designer plays good and bad games, but can explain why they are good or bad.

I think it an immature disservice to the hard work of the staff at infinity ward, sledgehammer games, and raven software to simply write off MW3 with a one sentence review, and giving them a zero or a one; chances are you have not even played a few hours of the game yet, or given an opportunity to each of its modes. For those that are willing to invest a little more time, I think there is a plethora of replay value hidden with the MW3 world. Survival mode is a very welcome addition, not to mention the fun to be had with the standard levels of Spec Ops. Although I would have maybe preferred 4 player for the survival mode, the feeling that is derived from battling it out with just one friend of yours is still very satisfying and has a high replay value. Multiplayer does feel slightly familiar to me, and the maps a little bit too condensed, but the strike packages are a real refreshment, as well as the ability to unlock weapon perks. Every single game it feels like your character is progressing, which is a good feeling overall. I do feel the game really does still need some work though, as the spawning system is still heavily flawed (I don't know how many times an enemy somehow has spawned directly behind me so far); as well as the inability to do simple things like climb onto a car, or any other reachable surfaces. I have been running often times and stopped completely in my tracks because my characters right arm must have bumped into a small object, which is a nuisance. Lag is also a huge issue (unless your able to afford stellar internet), I am supposed to be getting 7-10 MB a second, but in some games the opposing player doesn't even look like they have fired yet on my screen but I magically die and fell like chucking my controller across the room. When I actually do have a solid ping connection, it seems to run like most call of duty games before it. Another minor grip that i feel that black-ops got right, was during objective based matches like domination, when you zoom in inline towards a point, the A, B, or C, should fade out in order allow your field of vision to be unaffected if searching for an enemy. As a final note, the new game modes are fun (kill confirmed and team defender), and a welcome change of pace. I have not played the single player campaign yet, so my comments are more strictly reserved for Spec Ops and Multiplayer. The spawning issues, in my opinion, could be averted if we had a few bigger maps to choose from, as each of them feel slightly too small for my tastes. Though the map size may feel great to the run and gunners, its not for everyone. All in all, I am still satisfied with my purchase, as I have enjoyed the Call of Duty formula since the original Modern Warfare. I own battlefield 3 as well and will go back and forth between these two games depending on what style of combat I want to engage in for the day. Expand

But, let me give an example for my arguement: Counter-Strike is still one of the biggest FPS's in the world - after being out for over ten years and never changing the formula. People like the way it feels and they wouldn't want it to change very much, if at all. Modern Warfare is the console version of that formula. It works, not because people are 'mindless drones', but because they love the gameplay and want a fresh look on the formula. New maps, graphical tweaks, and great gameplay could keep this game going for years.

I could understand that some people are tired of call of duty, that's fine. I never really got into the other games too much - just played them on and off - but I'm having a blast with this game. Gameplay wise, this is by far the best 'feeling' game of the series, the controls just feel right. As for the maps, they are the best ones yet. If you are the type that likes to lay low in a building somewhere in a corner and camp... you might hate these maps. The maps are small and made for fast action. They all have a great 'flow' to them, many different routes to take, and many ways to either put yourself in good position to flank enemies or get out of a bad situation. There's also tons of cover, there's debris/objects everywhere, so there's many different ways to 'play' the areas of a map.

All in all, an amazing iteration of COD, the best one yet. As you can see from the other reviews on this website, the hatred toward the call of duty franchise is unmatched - as of this writing, there are 863 'negative' reviews with only 215 'positive'... But, there are nearly two million people, just on Xbox Live, playing MW3 online at this very moment.

The new multiplayer game modes are a welcomed addition to say the least. I did find that there were some "glitches" with certain things , such as the knifing, but its still overall extremely fluid. The story mode was fun to play through and quite interesting to see it all come together from the beginning to now . My only gripe is that the story mode was extremely short, between 3.5 to 4 hours depending on how you play. But lets face it, who buys a Call of Duty game anymore for the story ? Everything now is multiplayer, which is why I was so pleased with the story that they did do. Even on a primarily multiplayer game , they still took the time and energy to put together a great story, which I appreciate. So far the maps on multiplayer are decent, but nothing to thrill about. I definately look forward to the map packs to see what else they add to it all. Overall I love the game, with only a few shortcomings its definately another great leap forward in the COD progression. Theres a reason why MW3 does as well as it does and this game deserves the sales and recognition it gets. As they say it gets lonley at the top.

    My Gripes:

-The maps are uninspired and too small in comparison to previous installments. Sniping should be pretty much overlooked.

-The control sensitivity is not precise enough. At the lowest setting, I can barely turn my view. Just an adjustment above that and it's extremely sensitive, making it hard to aim. I never had this problem on MW2 or Black Ops. There definately needs to be some fine tuning.

-Running around feels as though I'm skating on ice. Never got this feeling in the older games.

-Character models look too similar. At one point, I'm running around in a map where both my teammates and enemies are wearing grey uniforms that look nearly identical.

The game definitely feels like a poorly done DLC and I'm already wanting to sell it and put the money toward Skyrim. I've been playing CoD for years now and I always found it to be a superior game to Battlefield, until now. Go buy that instead if you want a great multiplayer experience.

The problem is the technology. Activision didn't invest any money since CoD 2 to develop new engine (Yes Since CoD 2 its the same engine slightly modified), they managed to improve it up to CoD 4 but then they reached limit of it. Did they bother to develop new one? No. Since that time nothing changed. Same animations of characters, weapons and look of maps. They are trying to blind us through doing stuff like replacing zombies with 2 player co-op, new game mode and few new weapons model, but that's all. If you are going to get that game prepare for disappointment. Activision managed to sink all the way to the bottom of the sea one of the best FPS series in history of video games - Well done! From the king to the street beggar. I think it's time for CoD to retire for couple of years and come up with something new. Single player - stopping WW3 sounds great, you have the same characters (that didn't die) from previous version of MW. Map design is simple - get from point A to point B. Don't worry you won't get lost on the way. Guess why... CoD1 offered several different paths to reach objective and that's what should be restored! I don't care about fancy explosions!

Multiplayer - its just map pack for MW2.

Conclusion? Get different game because this one is worth only half of it's current price...

The campaign is as you would expect from the Call of Duty series; a short, action packed, enjoyable but rather forgettable experience. The overall spectacle flare from Modern Warfare 2 returns and the story is slightly easier to follow, but just as forgettable over all. Spec Ops Mode also makes a return, with short missions that can be completed with a friend or on your own, with a few exceptions. These missions take some of the more memorable moments of the campaign and tweaks them up to make them even more intense. This time a new mode titled Spec Ops Survival has been added. This mode is similar to the horde mode of other game you may have played such as Halo and Gears of War. Surviving wave after wave of varying enemy types with a large variety of weapons and air support options across all the multiplayer maps, whether alone or with a friend it is always intense and insanely fun. Now, onto the main reason why this game exists, competitive online multiplayer. This remains largely the same as it was in Modern Warfare 2, but with a few new tweaks to the formula. There is less of a focus on killstreak rewards with the implementation of different types of strike packages. Assault contains the usual kill steaks that have been included in previous COD games. Support contains mostly non-lethal rewards that benefit the team overall, these rewards do require kills in order to earn them, but the count does not restart every time you die. Finally, there is the specialisation package that acts the same way as the Assault killstreak, but grants a new perk to your class instead of giving a new killstreak reward. The maps themselves aren't the strongest they've been in the series, but most of them have a nice flow during objective based game modes and none of them are god-awful. Overall, Modern Warfare 3 recycles a lot of old material from it's predecessor, but overall it is a strong package, and with the amount of multiplayer game modes and the almost infinite replay of Spec Ops Survival, you do get your money's worth from it. TL/DR: A refined version of the COD formula, don't expect to see any true innovation. Overall, a solid package. Expand

It is a complete scam, plain and simple, its fraud to accept payment, refuse entry to the service, and then refuse to refund. I am in no doubt that this practise is illegal, and something needs to be done to rectify the situation, I don't even care about the game anymore, it could be the best game ever (its not, its mediocre at best), and none of it would matter, due to the fraudulent activities concerning Elite, by allowing minors to pay for the service without informing them that they are not able to access it. Any one with 2 braincells can see that it should be the other way around. i.e. A kid tries to pay for Elite, and an error message pops up saying "cannot accept payment due to account being under-age". NOT the other way around. This is quite clearly done on purpose to try and trick kids into paying for something they can't use. DISGRACEFUL, DISGRACEFUL, DISGRACEFUL CONDUCT Expand

Wow what a disappointment, two years in development and that's what we get. I'm sorry to say the almighty dollar has taken over. Activisions greed for money killed the cod series. And now how can Activision get more money faster than shipping sub par games, let's introduce cod elite and take another half a billion dollars from gamers for something that has no use.

A lot of negative reviewers are stating this is exactly the same as MW2, and in all honesty, I agree with them. It does make me wonder what the developers have spent the last 2 years doing as the graphics, models and guns are all identical to last time.
However, saying that, it is still MW and if you liked playing the 1st and 2nd installment then this will be just the same.

To give a score of 0 to this because of the similarity to previous incarnations is childish to say the least. It is MW, if you liked 2 then you'll like this, simple. It is still a great game, easy to pick up and play, the new maps are very much in favour of the running around like a headless chicken variety, so tactically, your options are very limited, but as a way to waste an hour or so with some mindless carnage, it certainly delivers.
And it is better than BF3...unfortunately.

The same broken Multiplayer, the same try-hard 4 hour long story, and soon the same overpriced map packs. It is truly a disgrace, the way Activision keeps confirming their greediness, and lack of interest for their customers. This hasn`t bitten them yet, seeing as a lot of COD-players are very, very young. Too young to stand up and say "I will no longer let myself be milked dry like a cow. I will no longer let this company ruin gaming by repackaging the same game over and over again, therefore being a bad example for the rest". And even when the fans are a bit older, they still have ridiculously low standards, considering they like replaying the same broken game, over and over, paying 60 Dollars every year.

Because of this greediness and laziness, COD MW3 deserves a 0, but I`ll give Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games 1 point for the effort.

The data is constantly uploading, even during the game, causing lag and ruining the game. They could have easily gone to a slightly longer intermission and uploaded everything at that time. The PS3 Warhawk, which came out in 2007, records tons of obscure statistics all game long and they are uploaded after the match, during intermission.

The maps are very bad. Too small, someone always behind you. Its no fun to do things right and get shot in the back anyway.

I was hoping for MW2 connection and hit detection, as that was Black Ops biggest problems. I was looking forward to a more balanced version of MW2 and what we got was a mix of MW2 and BLOPs. Heavy on the bad connection. So I am done with the COD franchise. You just lost a guy that purchased every Call of Duty game ever, every map / expansion pack ever. The Call of Duty series has been in decline for quite some time now, and this game will certainly not change that. I was addicted to COD4: Modern Warfare, and played that game religiously, every night, for almost a year. NONE of the COD games that have come after have been able to sustain that love that I felt for COD4. Black Ops was a somewhat good game, but suffered from terrible maps. In my opinion, all COD games that have come after COD4 have suffered from terrible maps, with each game only having 2 or 3 good maps, and the rest being virtually unplayable due to sheer boredom and poor design. Modern Warfare 3 continues this problem, offering nothing but similar maps, that are tiny, maze-ridden, flat places of boredom. It just sets itself up for players to run around like lunatics, and have no strategy or skill needed. I honestly cannot figure out what happened to the map designers after COD4? Did they all leave to go to other game companies? The gameplay for MW3 is really nothing new. The new Kill Confirmed mode is an interesting twist to Team Deathmatch, but is ridden with campers who just sit around and wait in ambush in order to acquire the dog tags. Graphics are average at best in this game. Controls are still way too loose. Gameplay requires no strategy or skill, and is way too arcade-like. Couple that with the atrocious map design, and there is NO reason to purchase this game. This is easily a rental only. If you want an arcade style run-n-gun FPS, then your clear choice should still be COD4. COD: Black Ops has a little bit better gameplay in it, but still only gets second place behind COD4 due to only having 3 or 4 decent maps, with the rest being terrible. COD4 had great maps, with much more variety than you'd see in future COD games. MW3 offers no real new things that would make it a purchase. The slight changing of the Killstreak system, and addition of a "Survival" mode in Spec Ops is not enough to warrant a purchase. Nothing about this game makes me want to go back to it. After playing it for the past 4 days, I have realized that it just isn't worth playing through any longer - it just isn't fun, and cannot hold my interest at all, unlike COD4. MW3 is essentially just MW2.5, and should have just been released as DLC content (which, in my opinion, is still WAY too overpriced for what you get in COD games - c'mon guys, lower the price for those map packs, since the quality of the maps is so inferior anyway. it is NOT worth $15 for a map pack.....maybe $5 at the most!). Yes, this game will sell a mind-blowing amount of copies this year, as the COD series always does. Unfortunately, quantity does NOT denote quality. The COD series is now all hype, and no substance. I cannot honestly recommend the multiplayer at all. There is nothing there to warrant playing it longer than a weekend rental. The short Single Player campaign isn't nearly as much of a disappointment, but still didn't appeal to me as much as the previous COD single player campaigns did. While previous COD games have fallen a LOT in quality when it comes to multiplayer, the single player has always been great. This year it just seems to have levelled off and isn't nearly as good as previous ones have seemed to me. The Call of Duty franchise has become the "Madden" of FPS series, with yearly iterations that do not have enough new content, and are just "roster updates" (or map updates, in this case) with no worthwhile new substance. Perhaps it is time for the game producers to sit back and take a few years off to reflect on their product, and put a lot of time and thought into making it better, releasing it only after a few years of development, rather than rushing out sloppy remakes with terrible quality maps and gameplay, just to make a quick buck. Buyer Beware!!! Expand

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
