First of all, I don't understand why almost everybody gives MW3 a 0 here at Metacritic... I mean come on... The singleplayer is indeed pretty short, 5 hours on regular difficulty. The singleplayer is indeed pretty short, 5 hours on regular difficulty. But the story was really good! It was a really good slot for the Modern Warfare series and I loved almost every moment. Ok, sometimes it had a few boring moments but there were also a lot of action and "OMFG"-moments. The Spec Ops - Mission mode is almost the same as the one from MW2 but only with new missions. But Spec Ops - Survival mode is really brilliant! I had a lot of fun playing it and it will really make me come back for more. Then the multiplayer, although it's almost the same multiplayer as MW2, the multiplayer isn't bad like everyone says. Infinity Ward has put a lot of cool new innovations in the MP like the weapon level-up, new multiplayer modes (i love Team Deathmatch - Kill Confirmed) and so much more. Ok, so the game isn't a lot different as Modern Warfare 2, but so what, everyone loved Modern Warfare 2? Why than hate Modern Warfare 3? Although it's maybe a little bit like a MW2.5, I still loved the game, and I will keep playing MW3 for quiet a while. Expand

When is activision going to realise that they need to stop milking this cow...
This is the big downfall of COD for me.

It's giving fans what they want. If a game that sells tens of millions of copies changes only aesthetically and still gets great reviews, what is the worth of innovation? Why are we even playing new games. Let's pay a monthly fee like in WoW and receive regular updates for next 10 years, ocasionally paying full price for big updates. That would at least not pretend to be a new game every time and suck as much money and even more time out of gamers. That is how we like our shooters, right? Why play something fun when you can get the same feeling from handing out headshots again and again, defeating all those noobs and prooving who's the man. Expand

I must say, the lads at Activision are simply brilliant. Figuring out a way to make schmucks pay $60 for a game that came out 4 years ago. Not only that, they are able to repeat year in, year out. It's the same game so expect the same noob tubing, cheap knife kills from 20 feet across the room, lack of vehicles, crap graphics and everything else that accompanies every CoD game.

Call of Duty. Everybody and their grandmothers have heard of it. Every year, a new one is released, destroying all of the sales records the previous ones established. Every year, a new one is released, destroying all of the sales records the previous ones established. The first COD that brought on this sequence was Modern Warfare, way back in 2007. For the first MW, there were no troll wars, there was no hatred between different camps of gamers. MW was revered for its incredible campaign and, excuse the pun. game-changing multiplayer. Fast forward to 2011. The sequence continues. MW3 sold 6.5 billion in 3 days. Yet it has one of the lowest user scores on metacritic there are. What happened, what changed? Well, to say the least, nothing changed. MW3 is still the same shooter as the original 4 years ago, but with a much worse single-player campaign (3 hours, and that's a generous estimate) and a much bigger emphasis on multiplayer. With the huge emphasis on multiplayer, it ought to have improved significantly from year to year, yet the changes the games receive each year are so minute that most don't know anything was changed. Other than COD Elite, I really can't see much of difference between this, Black-Ops and MW2. At least Black-Ops had a decent length story, even if it was a little convoluted. Graphically speaking, this game looks pretty good. However, so did Black-Ops and MW2. In fact, they look very similar... Maybe its just me, but there hasn't been all that much improvement in the series. If I wanted the same old game I've been playing forever I would've never bought a new one. As far as controls go, this is Call of Duty. No innovations have been introduced here; if you've played any of the other generic shooters in the past 4 years you'll know how to play this game all right. In conclusion, Modern Warfare 3 is a fun game, until you realize that it is the same game you've been playing for 5 years. The lack of innovations has really started taking it's toll on the patience of consumers, as shown by its current user score. With games finally breaking into the mainstream culture as something regular people do, COD has become the generic war movie. Sure, it will sell huge numbers, but it won't be remembered as one of the greats. With so many huge games out this fall that are huge improvements on their predecessors, such as Skyrim, Uncharted 3, , I would suggest buying something else instead of this. If you need to play COD, just keep playing Black-Ops. We all know you have it. Expand

Whenever you enter a match it always has lag regardless of whose host. There hasn't been one match without lag that destroys the experience for PSN. Now this isn't the same for the 360 though; Modern Warfare 3's matchmaking on xbox has been less laggy than the PS3 version. Perhaps there will be a patch to fix this in the future but my recommendation is to rent this first and possibly buy it in a month or so when a patch will be released and when the price goes down. I'm actually going to write a review against all negative critics. I have been playing COD franchise since COD1. I bought all COD but this time I thought it is time to switch to BF3. After watching both reviews on GT, BF3 scored 9.2 and MW3 scored 9.3. That little 0.1 made me change and I decided to buy MW3 instead. So why am I giving a 10/10 for MW3? Here is why: COD4 was a huge successI'm actually going to write a review against all negative critics. Here is why: COD4 was a huge success and I have to say it was really my first FPS I got addicted with and played COD4 for 1500 hours. COD4 was great and finally a GOOD welcoming change after CSS, Quake, Wolfenstein and TF engines. I remember though at that time people wanted to go back to WW2 style. So Treyarch decided to make WaW which ended up to be a pure disaster. Finally MW2 came out! Although it was a great game, lack of dedicated servers on PC did not make me want to play MW2 a lot. Therefore Treyarch then decided to release BLACK OP re-installing previous dedicated servers. I have to disagree with 85% of negative critics posted here. It is true that MW3 resembles a lot to MW2 but who cares? seriously? I know the franchise has been releasing a game every year? Get it over it lol again who cares? If they want to make money let them be! MW3 is, to me, an awesome game. I started it and I got addicted instantly. MW3 combines all previous years of experience this franchise has gained from COD4, WaW, MW2 and BLACK OP. Guns are really good, I haven't tried all of them yet - but so far rifles are well balanced. SMGs are SMGs. Melee got nerfed slightly to make it more realistic and finally many perks have been reviewed, changed and unlike in BLACK OP, akimbos are now only secondary guns. I am relieved to not see P90 akimbos anymore. As you would expect, MW3 maps are truly well designed. Although there are a lot of openings - you can't really "own" a map as MW3 is based on fast-pace style. It is good (gives new players the opportunity to kill and respawn is almost instant) and bad (for veteran players, it can be sometimes very frustrating - veterans can be killed from any corners) I am also very happy that Infinity Ward has introduced a whole new system in MP that allows you to level up a gun. I also enjoy new perks that can make you invisible to Air Support/Choppers. Finally, perhaps it is only me but I feel like MW3 really learnt from MW2 mistakes and Auto matchmaking on MW3 is fairly solid. The engine is really consistent. New modes such as Survival and Co op mission are really great! See I never really liked Co op mission. But MW3 made me change my opinion! Also if you are a "zombie-fan-kid" like I was in BLACK OP, you will love the survival mode Infinity Ward has introduced in MW3. In addition to people's critics: 1. No real innovation? I don't think so, I think there is when it comes down to perks, guns etc. Although it is minimal it doesn't really bother me like most raging kids. 2. Another cash? LOL so what? seriously who cares? 3. Bored of Campaign? At first I was very excited about MW3 SP, but the more you play the more bored you get. Why? Because you try to finish the game in 7 days. I'm pretty sure if you space out your gameplay you won't find Campaign as boring as most people think. It took me 8hrs to finish Campaign on Veteran mode. 4. MP is exactly the same as in MW2? Yea pretty much and I'm happy about it. BLACK OP wasn't much for me. Im more an Infinity Ward fan Expand

Ok now that i have adressed the trolls i can get on with my review, as always i have to force myself to play the COD campaign since they all feel stale dispite the amazing visuals and gunfights but anyone who buys this game for the story is pretty dumb because it is only like 4-5 hours long but fourtunatly there is so many other things to do. The multiplayer is fun and addictive and also easy to pick up and play for anyone new to the series and will keep you entertained for hours and the new game mode they added has become my new favorite thing to play. This game has also brought back Spec Ops if you somehow manage to get bored of the multiplayer with missions you can do that have nothing to do with the story and they also included a new survival mode. for those that dont know survival is basicly the same thing as zombies but they are actual people with guns trying to kill you instead of mindless animals and i like it way more than zombies and it actually gives you a feeling of accomplishment where as in zombies there is absolutly no gain and it is generally a waste of time. if you were expecting something different you should shoot that thought out of your arse because it is almost exactly the same thing and if you havent already picked up a copy of this game i think that you should defenatly try this out you will not be dissapointed Expand

The colour schemes are terrible, so dull and boring, the map design is not interesting, the options are too complicated.... need I go on? A game where you can shoot people through solid walls, kill someone with a knife from 5 or 6 feet away, but can;t kill someone with a predator missile because they happen to be sitting under a table umbrella is broken as far as I'm concerned. The maps have been created to combat campers but now instead of campers you've got gamers running wild with SMG's and you're constantly being shot in the back. And being shot in the back is probably the only consistent thing in the game seeing as how the weapon damage lacks consistency the way Ethiopia lacks nutrition. First off, this game is broken from the get-go. Elite doesn't work, frame rate drops, horrible lag compensation, broken match making. I wonder who does the QA for Sledgehammer Game's apparently it's a bunch of Chimpanzee's smashing a keyboard, that's who.

If I could give this game a score lower than zero, I would.

Doing my best to avoid spoilers, I'll just say that the campaign revolves around a seemingly endless onslaught of enemies and is peppered with a few dramatic scenes designed to keep your attention. Multiplayer...it's the same as MW2, but dull and tired. 16 new maps...and they're all the same: drab locales with obstacles cluttering every path. Most of the obstacles, although only waist high, are not scalable even for the elite warriors of Delta Force. On top video quality settings, the player models are also drab...gray uniforms with shiny gray helmets fighting against dull gray buildings. The playability of the MP maps compared to MW2 and BO is poor. The only necessary MP strategy in MW3 involves a submachine gun and Extreme Conditioning (the Marathon Perk replacement). You can run around all day pegging the slow players. In exchange, their fast teammates will run around and peg you. It's mind-numbingly lackluster combat. Oh, and need we need to remind them that Matchmaking for PC sucks balls? I don't pay for 15mbps cable to connect to a host in France and suffer poor latency. We don't even have the option to select a region to connect to. Sure, you can join and host dedicated servers, but they're UNRANKED. Thanks for nothing! Expand

From best to worst - top down...
Spec Ops Survival - Infinity Ward's version of zombies - actually fun and refreshing albeit shallow
Multiplayer - Some complain about MW3 being a $60 expansion pack but I disagree. There is genuine innovation here with the point-streaks. As far as familiarity goes, this is CoD and the Multiplayer is still fun - though some people may have expected more.

Singleplayer - The Third World War was boring.
While the multiplayer is replayable, I can't change my experience with the Singleplayer. I did not enjoy the singleplayer and I honestly hope MW3's storyline is removed from cannon. It wasn't interesting, innovative, or particularly fun.

I found mw3 to look a lot like mw2 in terms of graphic's and gameplay. But that's where it ended the campaign was more interactive than previous cod installment and was a great ending tieing up all the the past games story very well . With the addition of survival mode was a plus for me have enjoyed black ops zombie mode.

Only thing different from mw2 is the story and changes in killstreaks; changes are more like mw2 map pack that costs 75% more. Developer will stop support in 11 months. Not a worthy sequel.

Call of Duty 4 was the greatest game of the series...everything after has been downhill. What Sledgehammer admitted to doing with the MP was probably the worst thing TO ME that could've been done. They intentionally removed Sniper Maps in order to eliminate "camping". Why put in Sniper classes if we are not able to properly use them? I love to Run-n-Gun, but I also like to Snipe on certain maps. To pay $60 for a game and then basically to be told how to play it is pathetic. This is ridiculous, as Snipers are not "Run-n-Gunners". Sledgehammer also encourages people to "Quickscope", which is a major disappointment. This was a huge problem with past CODs, and for them to ENCOURAGE this is really sad. There are many issues with MP that need to be fixed, but Sledgehammer/Activision pretty much could care less since they already have everyone's money that purchased this game. This game doesn't even provide anything new. Everything looks the same and plays the same, with the exception of the sound. The weapons and explosions in this game sound cheap and dull...not even my Turtlebeach Headset could make it sound better. I am glad I bought Battlefield 3, although it has some issues that need to be addressed, but at least Dice acknowledges them and are fixing them. I hate you Activision for what you have done, and I really hate Sledgehammer for killing the COD game by taking out certain maps and encouraging that gay ass quickscoping. You guys suck and so does this game. I am one of CODs biggest fans, and I am sad to say, that this game sucks! Save your money and buy Skyrim. Expand

A step sideways for FPS and the series. I found the gameplay to be much the same as previous MW games while the maps were less fun and worse designed. I would not recommend this game, and would suggest to those interested in the COD experience to pick up MW1 or MW2 for a better time.

However this games textures, graphics and lighting are pretty much the same as CoD4 and MW2 and i don't care how many people say otherwise. The SP was drab and dull with pretty much the same old stuff i say pretty much as there were a few WTF moments in there. MP i have to say is a joke it appears to me that if you are not hardwired into the next generation fibre optic broadband from the future you will spend more time looking at the kill cam of the player who just murdered you wondering why no bullets came out of your gun. Bad spawns, non-flowing maps are just a few of the problems this game has. Some of the minor problems that are not game breaking like the inability to run and reload not being able to jump walls that are no higher than my knee are silly little things but can be a nuisance at times. This game could have really been far superior with dedicated servers but hey why would Activision spend their hard earned money on such trivial things. I and many others are highly disapointed in this game. I am not going to listen to the pre-paid hype next year and will not be buying another FPS that doesn't have dedi servers again. Big let down for me to be honest but i will say this the concept is great the reality is CoD 1.3. This gets a 5.0 from me. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So i got this game on release date and i am very shocked at how well this game came out. From the epic single player campaign to the awesome multiplayer and spec ops. The gun play has been balanced and so have the nobtubes and rockets and all the explosives. The new packages offer a wide variety of gameplay to the super "lone wolf" to the team- based player. The maps feel like modern warfare maps with the firefights usually occuring in houses and open ground and snipers now have a better chance at long range gameplay. No gun is overpowered since i have used all of them and kick butt with all of them equally. The elite package is an awesome upgrade to the game allowing you to see all of your games played and where you died and by who and by what gun. ELite TV is freaking amazing telling you how to play each map for certain types of game modes and how to use each gun with very specific details. The new killstreaks are super awesome. Nothing better then walking around with a recon juggernaut and just being a total tank. The specialist package is freaking amazing and is totally worth playing it if your a super lone wolf (25 kills with specialist package gives you a nuke) Expand

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.... I hope everyone enjoys $60.00 map packs. CoD has become so generic it's not even fun or worth it to buy the newest version. It sits in the same boat as Madden, the developers feel the need to re-make the game every year in an attempt to maximize profits. Call of Duty died for me after Call of Duty 4.

I particular by ridiculous kill streaks, over powered weapons and bad campaigns. However, after hearing good things I decided to give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised. Sure it looks old and a lot (and I mean A LOT) is simply recycled material från MW and MW2 (whole buildings and environments) but I do like it. It actually creates a feeling of nostalgia, and they've managed to bring out a lot of the best of the two previous MW iterations. I consider CoD4 to be the best FPS I've ever played regarding both campaign and multi player, and this recalls some of the memories. MW3 doesn't reach the same heights - too much is recycled and you can never top the original without being original yourself - but this is what MW2 should have been like. And the quick pace, quick weapon reaction that has been CoD:s trademark is still impact. The story is fast paced and we get an end to the cheesy WWIII scenario. Nothing too deep. But it executes well where you feel the interaction most of the time. On veteran it's not as challenging as for example Black Ops. As a matter of fact it's rather easy. The infinite re-spawn isn't as ridiculous. But still, the few spots where you have to man for example a machine gun and get hide nor drop it as hordes of enemies storm towards you, can still be frustrating. And from time to time you get pushed around by your stupid allies (who wont recognize an enemy standing next to them), run in to a few invisible walls and are being re-spawned in cross-fire that kills you before you even get a chance to prone. The pointless collection of intel is of course also still there (would be so hard to let us get for example a new perk, weapon or such for it?). The multi player has improved and thanks to a new perk system is more versatile. The new (yet copied from other games) "Kill confirmed" adds a new dimension. Some of the maps remind me of (and are most probably recycled from) old MW and MW2 maps. Which is a good thing, because most maps are actually quite good with some nice variation. They don't feel as similar as the did on MW2 most of the times and not as anonymous and dull as Black Ops was most of the time. Not to forget special ops, with the new Survival mode. Best played with two players, it feels like something that will last for some time. There are some 16 or 20 maps and they can offer quite some resistance at veteran. All in all a good game. Major flaws are the outdated graphics, yet another rather short campaign (though mostly well executed) and the fact that nothing much is new. Even though you recycle a lot of good old stuff, when creating a new game there should be more innovation present. But I will most likely be playing this a lot the coming year or two. Expand

I grew to hate MW2 for reasons like guns overpowered, camping, too many snipers, campaign too easy on veteran and poor maps encouraging camping. I have grown to love the new game as it fixes all of these. The single player is a blast with the fights in England, USA and Germany looking awesome; if it took you just 3 hours to complete you should have upped the difficulty as I have clocked 9 hours on veteran and have two levels to do. Multiplayer maps look great in Paris, London to name a few and with the new map layout the camping and sniping is no more. Personally people that played in that way made me hate the game so if that was ur previous style u may have to change ur style to a more mobile run and gun approach which I love. New mode Kill Confirmed is my favourite gametype rewarding gung ho attitude and stopping the needless camping everywhere. Guns and Killstreaks are more balanced and new create a class is refined with rewards for newer players. Guns now level up and it doesn't take long to get the new attachmant you've been waiting for. You now get rewarded even if you die lots and new Support killstreaks help newer players get their rewards making it less daunting to the noob. Lag doesn't seem as apparent as the last game but this is dependent on ur connection. I think this game has been sabotaged by haters who haven't even played the game, BAttlefield fanboys or infinity ward fanboys. At first it felt like MW2 mk2 but after a few hours it really comes into its own. Infinity ward made an appalling MW2 and black ops was good but got boring really quickly and made me question whether COD is getting a bit stale. I am not a fanboy as I hated MW2 and got bored of Black ops. I love MW3 and it has given me the same feeling I got when first playing COD4. My faith in the franchise is back and i look forward to the new monthly dlc. Is it better than Battlefield 3? If you like Battlefield you should get Battlefield, if you like cod before u shold get mw3. But if you haven't played battlefield i think it is too hard for the noob and mw3 will help u get better at the game. Please be honest when reviewing this game and give it a chance. Expand

I have only played Multiplayer (spec ops awaits), losing all interest in the campaign for this series, and what you will find, on the PS3 at current (18/11/2011) is a mess of lag, poor map design and a game of chance.

What used to take some thought and skill is now left down to who ultimately has the best connection to the host, alternating between taking 3 bullets to kill someone and 6+ bullets, all under the same Perk/Pointstreak conditions. I have had many times using a shotgun at short or point-blank range and taking a player out in one-shot, then later hitting (ie hit markers are shown while I'm aiming at their chest) them 4 times and still ending up dead at the end of it. Watching killcam replays where hit markers appear as your enemy shoots into the empty space you just left, and succeeds at the kill, occur far to often. All this and I have 4 bright green bars of 'quality' connection.

The game feels unnecessarily sped-up compared to previous iterations, with terrible spawn points that often see you moving forward to be killed instantly, and occasionally, if you are lucky, spawned immediately behind an enemy player. Mostly though, you will spawn close to where you were just killed, meaning, if you're quick, you can seek revenge on the player almost immediately, if someone else hasn't gotten to them first. This choice of spawn points is frustrating and you will find yourself being pushed to always keep moving and to always be looking over your shoulder (to than be shot from where you were just heading). That is not to say it isn't a good thing to have, and hasn't been a part of previous games, but here it is consistent throughout. Rather than a rush of tension from accidentally putting yourself into a poor position, and feeling like a bad-ass for coming out alive, you are almost always in a vulnerable position. It dissipates your ability for strategy or team-play. as the position you just fought for will shortly mean nothing, the enemy spawning behind you ready to shoot you in the back. It all just makes the game feel like a constant **** You will constantly find yourself dying as 3 people race to be the first to put their bullets into you, all from 3 different directions.

The map designs feel overly complex, with a lot more 'stuff' than I recall in previous games; more hidey holes, more boxes to get in the way and too many rooms and entry points. It all feels forced and unnecessary, as if the developers sought to make the game more mature and strategic by throwing more obstacles into the maps. Of course, my impression of these maps is massively hindered by the spawning issues previously mentioned, and any strategy that may come from their design and intended use I havent seen, clouded by the green rage that comes from consistently feeling cheated by this game. Over time perhaps my opinion on this will change.

The Perks in the game, or at least what I will refer to in general as 'perks' (Gun Perks, Character Perks, Strike Packages and their rewards) feel overly complex and purposely game-lengthening. The Gun Perks require you to use a gun and level it up exclusively, rather than being attached to your overall level, meaning you are constantly starting from the beginning if you choose to try a new weapon, having to work through sequentially to get what you want. Finally you unlock that gun you've constantly been killed by and wanna try it? well your gonna have to give up that sight and better stability until you use it enough. Some may find it addictive trying to find a weapon load out that just sits in the sweet spot of how you play (and won't be outgunned by a pp90), I used to in previous iterations, but that will only truely be an option once you've unlocked every single attachment and perk available, a feat only possible when you reach level 80 and have spent solid time with every gun available. It makes the whole thing feel like I'm having to work to enjoy the game, mine gold for hours so I can finally slay the dragon! unfortunately there isn't a dragon in the game, just a hope of finding a golden nugget of fun that's been hiding from me. As I shake my Magic 8-ball, it's sources tell me no.

The game feels like a half-arsed experience, like an actor portraying a character from that book you love, poorly, taking it in their own direction without actually being immersed in the fiction, just the cheque at the end of the rainbow. Reports of re-used models and what appears to be a lack of testing in regards to the design of maps, the upgrade system and the ridiculous lag I have encountered within 'good' connections all tell me that the developers didn't care, or at least, they didn't have the time. It's cheaper than the pokies, but you will probably shorten your life-span by just as much.

So adding a new manu layout changes nothing, not even adding a strategy map is called innovation.

But what about the online? that's what the game is about right? well no if I'm paying a sick high ammount of money just to struggle to play with someone decent, I don't even know where most of these people actually got any kind of education, in the jungle?

The exact same game as previous years, but with LESS and WORSE over all game play mechanics! The single player was short and lacking in every possible way and the multiplayer is no different than the previous dribble of years past. Save your money and make room for a real FPS shooter to hit the market

Terrible game. Dated, incoherent, unbalanced and over priced. The single player is short but not short enough to make the holes in the plot disappear. And it lags terribly on the unbalanced, poorly designed multiplayer.

Single player experience is an improvement over MW2 but there is still very little plot or original ideas in it. You don't play a COD single player expecting the greatest story ever so I can accept that not being the best but honestly online I don't think the game is even finished yet, perhaps in a month or 2 when presumably these problems will have been patched away I could recommend buying MW3 but right now its realy not fit for release judging from my experience. To this day I still play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, not because I am poor or against what's cool and popular but because there is no actual solid new features included in COD4's successors(both MW2 and MW3) that would warrant a purchase from me; it is quite evident that the evolution of the series has yet to take place. I have rented MW3 for a day, for about $2.13, and believe me when I say I feel like a fool for paying $2 dollars to play a game that I already own. For those that wasted the full $60 + tax, you have my sympathies. The only graphical differences in the MW3 is the lighting, they tweaked with the lighting in MW2 also. Who are they trying to fool? 2 years between each game and the only visual improvement is something that can be applied to the previous game via patch?! The campaign is lackluster, explosions and "spontaneous" events are suppose to keep you on the edge of your seat but all it does is make me think about the better ways that I could've spent those two dollars I threw away renting this game. The multiplayer is mediocre, it has the fun aspects of COD 4(obviously), the frustration of MW2, and lacks the amount of customization that was present in Black Ops; overall, not a good mix. The gameplay keeps you wanting to play and give the game a chance, but the fact that there's overpowered killstreaks and anybody that manages to get three kills in a row is basically handed the win keeps you irritated, shaking your head, and ultimately bored. Unlike COD 4, where there are no ultra-overpowered killstreaks and the perks are balanced out, MW3 is, exactly what it set out to be, a super easy game that takes less skill. COD 4 is easy to pick up and play, but MW3 is RIDICULOUSLY easy to pick up and play; by my 3rd match I was already getting the top score, It took me about 10 or so on COD 4, and about 5 on Black Ops. How can somebody that doesn't know the maps get the top score on their third try? Killstreaks and an abundance of perks. There's little to no skill involved, the outcome of how good you will do is determined in the beginning of the match by how well your internet connection is at that juncture. Which leads me to another complaint, Activision, billions upon billions of profits later still no dedicated servers?! When games with a lower budget like Homefront can provide its users with dedicated servers? we all know that you are evil and that you are trying to take over the world by riding this COD bus until it breaks down and you end up with trillions upon trillions of dollars, just enough for the CEO of Activision to relieve himself of his daddy issues, but atleast try to delude us into thinking you are making somewhat of a quality product by investing atleast a couple of thousands or less on dedicated servers. It is insulting to gamer's intelligence to even release this game without the aforementioned. I only see little Jimmy playing this when his parents are asleep, or Brad and Chad after coming off of a very touchy lockeroom scenario and are ready to indulge in the usual dudebro fest. Expand

MW3 under powered kill streaks are useless when destroying air support kill streaks gives noobs a point towards their support streak which does not end when you die they can continue to build, so everybody has a stinger as secondary, but you assault kill streak are not stack able if you cycle through them with out using one..lets say i`m running UAV (3) care package(4) predator missile(5) and i get in a few gun fights before i get a chance to use my UAV & care package and get them again because kill streaks roll over if you don`t die, but i will not have 2 UAV`s or care packages even though i earned them...smh! is this the end of Call of Duty? maybe so if Black Ops 2 don`t bring a new engine & a new innovative game play to the table next year. In this clone i haven't really felt any difference from COD4 and MW2, yes definitely they have changed the maps, and yes they have added some new stupid images and perks however this isn't the game.. Its funny that the critics have voted the game so high, while the majority of people didnt do that, this say that the critics are not fair or not gamers.

I like MWF family and i really hope that they will fall down like Battlefield, and i hope they will not stay drunk with the fact that many people bought the game, we buy it because we like it, that doesn't mean we will continue paying for the same game...

The weapon loadouts seem random and rushed, the sniper rifles are just horribly weak(usually have to 2 shot), the assault rifles have an insane recoil on them, and the other guns are just not nearly as fun as MW2's. Not played much of the campaign but not really impressed there either, extremely rushed gameplay, very dull and dreary locations/maps. It's obviously so easy that people have already prestiged at least once since it's release a mere 9 days ago. Due to how much players have overburnt on the game, many of the new buyers can't even attempt to compete with the slow, underpowered starting guns. I've never written a review for a game but I just had to spend some of my time writing this because I thought this game is awful and seriously flawed and wanted to warn others not to dish out $60 for this poor game, even if everyone on your friend's list is playing this game. Like many people have said, MW 3 is more like MW 2.5 but people fail to mention that it's a step backwards from Black Ops which is extremely disappointing. When Black Ops came out, it was successful because it wanted to incorporate social networking elements. For example, you could design your own playercard by making a custom emblem and selecting from a wide array of backgrounds. You could mark your gun with the emblem. MW3 does not have playercards, it's essentially the exact same as MW2. Not only that, theater mode in MW3 is a mess, you can't keep track of what everyone's score is until the very end of the match, and flipping through different players is difficult because each time you switch, you look at a 3rd person view and must look at their gamer tag that way. The Maps are just awful too. They are all crowded with buildings and have many camping spots. When the game was advertised, it seemed like the maps would be cool because it'll be in urban places like New York and London. The problem is, they all look the same so you don't really feel like you're elsewhere. Combat Record is also gone in MW3. Instead, it's replaced by a extremely simplified one page list that cover the basics like K/D ratio and Wins and Losses. It's not like Black Ops where it tells you extremely detailed information about your gameplay. I've heard there's COD Elite, but first of all, I don't feel like installing an App on my PS3 and have to switch to it just to look at my Stats. Not only that, they want you to fork over 50 bucks for COD Elite and I use am not going to do that. Creating classes are also time consuming, as you have to go through a step by step process to add different attachments to guns. The Graphics are also the exactly the same as MW2. I'm extremely disappointed, and I wish I had listened to everyone else's reviews. The only improvement I've noticed is that the load times are a little shorter than Black Ops, but could it be because "MW 3" or I mean "MW 2.5" is a Step Backwards from Black Ops? Expand

Before i begin my actual review of MW3, I don't understand why people hate the game simply because it's similar to previous call of duty's, or because it looks the same. MW2 was a great looking game, so why is it a problem if they use the same engine that already looks and feels great to begin with? If it isn't broke, don't fix it. MW2 was a great looking game, so why is it a problem if they use the same engine that already looks and feels great to begin with? If it isn't broke, don't fix it. That being said, I'm only going to review the multiplayer version of the game since that's the only reason people buy it... MW3 is by far the worst COD to date, not because of how it looks or how original it may or may not be, but simply because of the core mechanics of the game itself. First off, if a game developer calls a game a First Person Shooter, and you can do well in the game without firing a gun once, as far as I, or any other fan of the FPS genre is concerned, the game is broken. The knife has always plagued the COD series as the most frustrating way to die, and although IW *claimed* to have fixed panic knifing, it still makes no sense to bring a gun to a knife fight. They basically took 5 ft. out of the 10 ft. commando lunge and said knifing was fixed.
My biggest issue with MW3 by far is the fact that IW insists on rewarding bad gameplay, i.e. rewarding people for being bad at the game. This is shown in many different features in the game, the most obvious being deathstreaks, which succeed only in punishing players who are actually successful in the game, and give bad players no reason to actually become better. The spawn system is another example of this; the spawns in MW3 are not bad, they are non-existent. You will literally spawn in and watch an enemy walk by directly in front of you, or in my case, the other way around. How can IW justify spawns that are beyond broken? This was done on purpose, with the intent of once again rewarding people for dying by giving them free kills, and punishing the players who stay alive with free deaths. Aside from the spawns, there are many ways to die in MW3 which aren't your fault by any means, such as instant death from the omnipresent predator missile/stealth bomber. What can you possibly learn from watching helplessly as a missile is dropped on your head randomly?
IW definitely decided to take a different angle on the map design in MW3, by not only making the maps significantly smaller, but by adding as many obstacles, exploding vehicles, exploding barrels, trees, crates, etc. as possible without severely impeding movement around the map. Simply put, the maps in MW3 were poorly thought out, many of them being completely unplayable.
Modern Warfare was always known for having reliable hit detection, but in MW3, hit detection and latency issues are far worse than Black Ops ever was. If you want to play a FPS where when you shoot someone they die shortly after, look elsewhere. Although there are many other flaws with the game I could mention, they aren't worth mentioning compared to the aforementioned issues.
Although MW3 is fundamentally broken as a multiplayer game, the MP still deserves at least a 2/10. The game looks great, and the controls are smooth, fast, and accurate; which is why COD is as successful as it is. Also, one aspect of the game IW does well in is the weapons; the guns are all very fun to use and have their own unique characteristics to them.
In conclusion, MW3 is a game that has a lot of potential and at times can be either the funnest game you have ever played, or, more often than not, the most frustrating.

MW3 is actually a very good game contrary to most of these reviews. I was very disappointed when I saw the 2.8 player review.... This game deserves a much higher review. The graphics are better, the landscape and battlefield layouts are much bigger and better, the guns are different in multiple factors and the choice of killstreaks are far from the same as MW2. If you can, pick up this game, you won't regret it. Expand

All the assault rifles are exactly the same. The maps are absolutely awful. All the maps consist of a bunch of random buildings you can go in and they are just in your way. Survival is ehh but zombies is waaaaaaay better. I think this game just proved to me that im not buying another IW COD game because this game is the exact same as MW2. Expand

All I have to say is that I put more effort into masturbation than what Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer put into Modern Warfare 3. This game gave a very POOR first impression of Sledgehammer. Hell, Black Ops is better than this. i would rather want a re-vamped CoD 4 than this pile of poop.

What an absolute garbage game this is! An abortion in fact. It makes me sick that I paid £80 for this game with the hardened edition. Worst shooter ever. Same thing as COD 4. Battlefield 3 is better in every category. I could hardly play it for 2 minutes because it looks so terrible in comparison to Battlefield 3. This game is so dated, all it is now is a glorified cash cow. It preys on the masses of brain dead idiots who can't look for quality in a game.

Absolute garbage. The same bs rehashed and repackaged with new cover and marketed to 11 year old boys across the world. Why would anyone want to play a game where the primary demographic while online is squeaky voiced 11 year olds calling you a f@g?

I'd rather not play games with roomfulls of children tyvm.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.

By sticking to the series' strengths, Modern Warfare 3 delivers some of the best competitive, cooperate, and single-player shooting in the business.
