No. It's time we all stop buying these games. I'm sorry that I'm part of the group who bought the game and is now complaining about it-egg on my face. But I will not let this happen again, and I extend to all of you to not make the same mistake. I'm sick of these people making money on completely sub-par games.

This game is sad. They use the same engine as past 2 MWs. Its just a copy and paste, IW didnt work hard on this game at all. Theres just a few new perks here and there and killstreaks, but not much of a improvement

I would firstly start by questioning whether anyone actually realises what a sequel is. Its meant to have many qualities which are similar while adding and changing certain things and finishing the story. It's a shooter so there's only so much that can be changed. Its meant to have many qualities which are similar while adding and changing certain things and finishing the story. It's a shooter so there's only so much that can be changed. There are a few problems, hence the 9 and not 10 (you dont have to give it a 0 just because its not perfect or what you wanted). There are still flaws in the MP such as knifing through air and lag; and the campaign is too short, but these are redeemed through everything else. Before going on ill also address the whole stupid Battlefield vs MW thing. Why cant people just like both? I do. I prefer MW3 But would never say that BF3 is a bad game. They are so similar in some ways that it makes more sense to either like or hate both. The set pieces in BF3 are weak and feel lifeless no matter how interactive they tried to make them, but the MP is more strategic which is good and so why choose if I had the money id get both but couldnt (have seen BF played through and had a go though). MW3 nicely wraps up the story of the game with plenty of dramatic moments or twists which keep you interested and eager to find out what will happen next. The characters aren't very deep ( the usual macho men that you get in every war game) and yet they still manage to make you care about their fate on more than one occasion. The plot itself could be considered a little thin but does make sense and create an adequate sense of tension. The storyline moves along so quickly that some details are skimmed over and so it's hard to understand what is going on at times; on the other hand the pace keeps things interesting and no level or section of the story drags on for too long and becomes boring. The huge set-pieces in the game deliver such mind-blowing impact that you feel like youre really fighting for your life. There are just the right amount of explosions and things falling down around you to exemplify the destruction of that a third world war would bring without getting ridiculous. Each level has a different atmosphere from the last based on what had happened in the last level or the mise-en-scene of the current level. New York drops you in the middle of a fast-paced shootout through the streets, while Paris is an eerie, ghostown-like environment. Some sounds and textures may be recycled but this does not ruin anything at all. The guns have more of a 'feel' to them than in any shooter i've played. They look and sound lethal and really get you feelinf like youre firing the gun (my personal favourite being the M4A1, it just sounds so good). I don't understand most of the criticism of the visuals, they're good, no worse than any other game out there and are superior to other MW games. Despite the short campaign I did come out of it feeling satisfied because although it only took around 5 hours to finish, they were a damn good five hours and I had no problem moving on to higher difficulties just to have an excuse to play it again. Not only that, the MP and spec ops provide plenty of replatability. Spec Ops has two types now: Missions and Survival. Survival is infinitely replayable and i've actaully never got bored of playing it. Playing with different people creates a different experience and 16 levels is plenty to choose from, and despite not making new levels especially for it the MP maps also fit playing survival (actually better in some cases). The levelling up system to unlock upgrades and weapons for use in survival mode also adds an element which encourages you to play on even beyond the fact that its just genuinely fun, especially with a friend. The missions are more of a mixed bag with some being better than others but generally being very well designed. Most of them become incredibly hard (for me anyway) on veteran difficulty and so there's many many hours more gameplay in trying to complete them; additionally, what's not to like about being able to just pick a mission and jump in to a juggernaut suit anytime you like?

The multiplayer has plenty of flaws. But every single MP i've played has for the first month or so and there's not too many compared to, say, Resistance 3. Some of the maps are a little poorly designed and too labyrinthine or just having too many, too good camping spots. However the leveling up system is a large improvement on any other MW game. The weapon levels add an extra element to how you have to improve your guns and proficiencies allow further customisation of your class. The prestige shop is a nice little touch aswell. The perks are more balanced than ever before with some countering others and needing to be used more tactically than usual. The new killstreak system with support, assault and specialist packages allow newer players to stand more of a chance and allow there to be a greater variation of killstreaks available while also rewarding players who can get the higher level killstreaks with worthwhile rewards.

Next is spec ops first they didn't increase the amount of missions that much and most of them just take patience to beat even on the hardest difficulty so clearly they didn't want to make tough challenges just long ones which is tedious and boring. Now onto Multiplayer where to begin oh i know its boring i mean come on over half the guns are from the last two games so no creativity there and kill streaks are either a easy to shoot down or B not worth using i mean a juggernaut can be killed by one grenade so ya its real worth the eighteen kills to use it. on a personal note its also boring with all close quarter maps and no fun to play by your self. i played for five minutes with out my friends and quit from lake of any feeling at all. so i guess what I'm trying to say is MW3 is just a sad half ass attempt to make another call of duty game before people realize it's like the madden series where it's the same stupid crap time after time again. in conclusion its a lazy attempt at a game and show little to no new content so I give it a four based solely on the fact that it call of duty is still fun to play against friends with but that's all i see in this game. But the story just tries to hard to copy its predecessors and fails with writing that would make even Kojima scream. The story copies its predecessorHow and why the hell would Russia simultaneously invade all of Europe? What did Europe do and how can the Russian army have the manpower for the invasion. Also, if the Russian president is flying over for a peace treaty, who the hell gave the order to invade Europe? Add to that the shallow and token attempt at shock and awe. In the game a child is blown up, but it's so shallow and token. What's the purpose? War and Terrorism are bad? The nuke in MW1 and airport shooting already proved that point. Even those shock moments have some meaning; the MW1's nuke caused general shepard to spark a war in MW2 and the airport shooting in MW2 lead to the Russian invasion in MW3. It's a cliched and poorly designed story that outdoes the neo-con fantasies of tom clancy and john milius. Sure some guy can say it's supposed to be like a michael bay movie or that multiplayer is the real meat. But the COD series have always campaigns that raised the stakes and stunned millions. - Addition of new strike packages - I like the idea of catering to different player types. I think this creates a more interesting environment and awards different play styles.

    Cons
    - matching and lag compensation and hit detection - penalizing people with fast internet connections? I often get 4-5 shots off on my screen, and inevitably get killed. I watch to killcam, and see not only did I get maybe 1 shot off on my competitors screen, but I may have even been facing the wrong way. Ridiculous. I have no problem getting beat by someone who is better than me at COD, I don't play that often. But it is quite frustrating to play, only to get 1:2 k/d ratio constantly because I have a decent internet connection.
    - Maps - very poor construction. Little to no cover. High killstreaks require more "luck" than skill in my opinion. No innovation (maps in CODMW2 were excellent, multiple levels, areas for cover)
    - graphics - meh ... nothing new here
    - guns even the "new" guns are just copies of MW2 (mp7 is uzi, FAD is the same as the 2000 gun)
    - spawning - The assault package is almost worthless because of spawn points; which often are right behind me.

If this had come out 2 years ago, great. I would still only give it a 6-7 based on the many multiplayer shortcomings.

I have seen that some of the producers have tweeted saying "this game is definitely not a 1.7" or something of that nature. I agree, but it is no greater than a 4-5 for sure at this point. Certainly not this great new experience that they so highly touted with all the hype.

The format is too old now and its long standing issues are really not acceptable anymore (like getting killed via Killstreak bombing two seconds after spawning). Problem 1) The single player campaign is absolutely terrible - bad writing and poor musical score plague the experience as it cribs off of the previous Modern Warfare titles in a very sterile manner. 2) Multiplayer's new modes (Kill Confirmed) feel like hackish mods, completely unacceptable for a product that sells at full price. For such a derivative title, it should NOT be selling for 60 dollars. It's worth maybe about 40 dollars, including all of this year's DLC map packs for free. The game looks terrific from a graphics and sound stand point, but the gameplay is ancient and its design problems legion. Personally, I think all of this year's military themed FPS games kind of suffer from this, and if developers don't want to come up with anything new, then fine. Just don't charge full price. Avoid. Online is the same, with little change but a few more flashing words of BONUS. Guns sound lovely but don't pack the punch needed to make me feel I'm in the battle. Same old run and gun attitude, no squad feel at all. Same Block style atmosphere maps, WALLS, STAIRS, WINDOWS oh and plants and burnt out cars. Playing the game has just set it that I will never buy any of the CoD series again. I was so hoping that MW3 was going to change this for me but it hasn't. Thank you CoD4 for setting a bench mark for FPS and thank you Battlefield for having the guts to implement change. I give fealty to EA, DICE and the FROSTBITE 2 Engine. Well Played. Expand

The biggest problem I have with this game is the lack of innovation with every consecutive game. Cod is a winning formula but it's being copy and pasted (literally) and the game is still very addictive but you'll get burned out really easy after a few hours. The second problem is with the maps. It's a massive maze of junk and buildings with no "flow" in any of them. This leads to lots and lots of campers killing you instead of actually having a good gun battle. I also miss the customization there was in black ops, the call of duty elite website allows you to look at the same stats but now it's not in the game. A few minor annoyances I have are how long flash bangs blind and stun you, it's about 5 seconds which feels like an eternity. Also there are very few maps for sniping because the layout is up close and maze-like which doesn't allow you any distance. The biggest plus I have with this game is the gun-balance. I feel like there's not one gun that is overpowered or underpowered. I also like how you have 80 levels to prestige and gold gun camo is based on how much you use that gun. All in all I'd give the multiplayer experience a 6. Its addictive and fun but you'll burn out quick. Let's stop paying the developers to copy and paste 90% of the game and lets get some new innovative material. Expand

I've logged 15 or so hours on the online multi-player and must admit it's very frustrating. Reasons why: 1) Hope you got 5 minutes to let your playstation find you a game - and if you want to play Survival mode... forget about it. 2) I thought bullet detection took a step backward from MW2 to Black Ops... well, you ain't seen nothin' yet. 3) If you want to be completely frustrated, watch the kill cam a few times and watch dudes empty clips into you as you round a corner and they haven't even shown up on your screen. I realize, the more you play you get a 6th sense of where people are coming from and can "feel" someone coming around the corner, but I have a feeling many times people are getting the drop on me because of a faster internet connection, which I've never felt before in a CoD game... so bear in mind, this issue might not be suffered by you if you have a super fast internet connection.

I must admit, the low score is due grading on a curve based on the other CoD games. Considering how great a game MW2 was, I just feel the ball was really dropped here. Credit where credit is due though... graphically beautiful, worthy single player campaign conclusion, and just about everything about it is a giant step up from Black Ops, but I thought Black Ops was pretty crappy with the exception of online Zombies.

Definitely going to sell on Ebay (after logging about 80 hours less than I would normally on a CoD game) and give Battlefield 3 a try. Maybe that franchise takes steps forward instead of back. Based on the reviews here, I'd bet this was Call of Duty's last record breaking opening day for sales... I know I am no longer eagerly awaiting what is next in the franchise.... and I really have to wonder about the glowing reviews from professional critics???? Reminds me of the 4 star reviews for The Phantom Menace.

The singleplayer continues the story of Russia and America fighting a war just because one man tricked the world. You play as a lot of characters, and the story is intense. Characters from Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 return which will make you smile since they survived. The singleplayer has an incredibly good story and you'll be all over the world fighting the bad guys and the ending will please all fans. The gameplay is also intense and as always, a certain scene has been added which can be viewed as "shocking". It's not as shocking as the nuke in Call of Duty 4, but your jaw will drop. The shooting is great and you won't be bored if you play at the right difficulty.

    Multiplayer
The multiplayer is like Call of Duty 4 but with a few new features added. At first it can be really hard since it doesn't play like Modern Warfare 2. Getting kills is harder and don't expect to get a 20 kill streak as easy as in Modern Warfare 2. It feels like Infinity Ward finally listened to the community and made the game harder. Camping will get you killed and rushing aswell, so you'll have to move and work with your teammates to survive. They also added a new gamemode (kill confirmed) which will keep you bussy. The leveling system is better then ever.

The only thing that really bothered me is the fact that they used gunsounds from Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. It feels really cheap but it won't bother you for too long. Buy this game if you enjoyed Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty 4.

MW3, despite being very accomplished, and indeed a great deal of fun, nonetheless seems to be lacking in distinct features over previous iterations of COD. As such, I feel 8 to be a fair score, it's still a marvelous package for the price, the one player may not be to my exact tastes, but the hours you can pass online certainly make up for this.
A few issues would relate to this said multiplayer experience. While I love that they have introduced a less one track focus for streaks and bonuses in the online games (support, assault etc), there still remain some issues.
Primarily for someone like myself, the lack of a buffer from the seriously good players out there when you first boot up the game can be very frustrating. You feel as though your experience of death, respawn, death respawn is never ending at times. Equally, added to this can be the occasionally ridiculous levels of killstreak bonuses people pick up. To have to think carefully about one attack helicopter can provide a refreshing amount of strategic thought to a match... to have tons of things in the air shooting and bombarding the hell out of you you as you spawn provides a sort of random anarchy that makes you feel no matter your skill you are going to perish at this point in the game.
Anyway, to end on a more positive note. Undoubtedly a very good game indeed, for both fans of the series, and to those looking to either delve in to marathon online sessions or just dip in and out. Not the freshest game out there given it doesn't move mountains to evolve after COD: BO, but probably more an indictment of how good this series has been at providing a slightly arcadey FPS experience for the past few years.

MW3 deserves a zero. I say this with a straight face and the knowledge that I am no fanboy, simply a man who does not like to be lied to. MW3 is not a sequel, it is a glorified expansion pack. If this had been a 20$ map pack for MW2 or Black Ops it might have been acceptable. The fact of the matter is, not enough has changed to warrant the release of this "sequel." The game itself,MW3 deserves a zero. I say this with a straight face and the knowledge that I am no fanboy, simply a man who does not like to be lied to. MW3 is not a sequel, it is a glorified expansion pack. If this had been a 20$ map pack for MW2 or Black Ops it might have been acceptable. The fact of the matter is, not enough has changed to warrant the release of this "sequel." The game itself, reviewed from by a person who has never played COD before is indeed a masterpiece. I'd say it would easily be a 9. However, the fact that this game was developed and released as a"sequel," angers any who have played even one Call of Duty before. Everything is recycled and tired. The fact the developers can get away with this sham is not only reflective of their greed and apparent lack of interest in creating anything innovative, it is reflective of the stupidity of the consumers who buy the product in the first place. If these people continue to support this lunacy, there is no telling how long the COD series will be able to extort gamers from their money to pay more map packs. There is also no telling if this trend will spread, which being a trend that makes the developers more money at the cost of little work it will likely spread to other, well-liked franchises. You see I don't hate MW3. I hate how people don't see MW3 for what it is and appropriately don't buy it. The sooner the COD developers realize they can't **** with their own consumer base, they will put much more EFFORT into their work, improving QUALITY. THEREFORE DO NOT BE SHEEP AND BUY A REHASHED PIECE OF WORK. DEMAND QUALITY YOU DESERVE. Essentially this statement means if MW3 was not bought and made Activision lose money, the next one would actually be worthy of the title Modern Warfare. Here's to the last great COD game, Modern Warfare before they ****ed it all up lol Expand

'Bigger' is not necessarily better. Single player still sucks because the AI is terrible. Never been more frustrated in a game before than being shot from half a mile away by an AI soldier running and firing from the hip. Was a big Call of Duty fan (COD4), but after Black Ops and now this, I won't be buying the next one if it means basically buying this one again but for another £45.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 isnt a map pack described in the reviews of the haters but isn't a totally new experience either. The engaging formula of CoD its now back and pulished with the fast online matches, the awesome Killstreaks and Perks. But where is the real Weakness in MW3? Its in the Single Player Campaign and its Graphics (That aren't bad, just ... old?). Let me explain the problem with the single player campaign: In the trailers we saw awesome Gun Fights in the Modern World War III and it looked just epic but the problem was that Activision made the customers to expect a Lot from the Campaign but the scenes played on the Trailers, were the best action scenes we saw in the whole Game so, it was a little bit dissapointing. I have to admit that I get a little bit emotional with the death of Soap Mactavish but just that ... Modern Warfare 2 had a better story than its sequel, when we saw Ghost Death we all fell anger and we just wanted to kill Shepherd and in the end of the Washington Level we were anxious to atack Russia ... You understand no? That was a shooter with a Great Plot! The gameplay its ... its more of the same but isn't bad, practically you just Shoot, Run, Cover, Follow, plant C4 and kill some Russian Bad guys but it works its simple and addicting ! What can I say? I really love CoD and my favorite was MW2 followed by Black Ops but after playing this game that wasn't bad but it was dissapointing in a new level of dissapointingness (I was expecting a better final to the story of Soap and Captain Price) but ... meh, the multiplayer its more of the same with different scenarios with 3 or 4 extra perks and Killstreaks OH! and there isn't a lot of hideouts for Campers (AWWW YEAH!). I decided to imeadiatley check it out for myself and was pleasantly surprised to find out that I'm not the only person completely disappointed with this game. I've been playing call of duty since the 2nd installment. They've had their slip ups from time to time such as the third one in particular but nothing as disappointing as their newest release Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The hype behind this game was staggering! It was talked about by everyone includding people who've never played video games before. I know that there have been some shake ups in their staffing but rather than spending their resources on building a quality game I feel like infinity ward spent all their time on money on marketing. AND THEY DID A DAMN GOOD JOB AT IT! This game is dreadful in every aspect, the multi player being the worst. The single player seems as though it were an after thought, like 'oh yeah, we need to put a campaign mode in too.' The spec ops is still only two players. Who doesn't have more than two friends they play video games with nowadays? Even Gears of War realized that a good co op game mode needs atleast four players involved. The multiplayer however is the reason most people buy this game and it it the biggest reason not to buy it in my humble opinion. I'm not saying I could make a better game but in a way I feel like I could. This seems like such a step backward that it should be in the apple app store not the midnight release of the year. All the maps seemed washed out like your in a never ending sand storm, the spawns suck because you'll spawn with an enemy directly behind you, the kill streaks are terrible! Nothing fun about kill streaks since everyone can earn them now. When you die they don't reset so the game is constantly rumbling from stealth bombers. All I have left to say is that this was the worst $100 I ever spent on a game. I bought the hardened edition that included founder status to COD Elite (which by the way still is not working and is a whole other reason not to buy MW3) I'm happier playing Black Ops which has its own problems but at least it was a step in the right direction when it came out. Modern warfare 3 is terrible! Expand

The sound quality seems a bit lacking in variety. Overall it doesn't hamper the gameplay but it doesn't enhance it either. There is a great variety of weapons as you would expect from a Call of Duty game. The way you level your weapons up works similarly to Borderlands. You spend time using a weapon which unlocks proficiencies that improve your weapons performance. There are 16 maps. They seem fairly predictable and conservative in layout. The maps direct the action appropriately while avoiding confusion and cluster. The art direction of the maps make it feel like there is good variety and that I am not playing the same map all the time. The kill streaks have been overhauled to balance the gameplay and allow you to tailor a play style that is very unique to you. You can play an offensive role, supportive, or more of a lone wolf role. The engine the game is running on is showing its age, but the gameplay is still as addicting as ever. Its nothing overly innovative but its a nicely refined title in the series.

I find it extremely enjoyable and entertaining continuation of MW2 although much of the gameplay is similar to MW2 it still has new enjoyable features that will keep me leveling up and possibly even go prestige once or twice. The new pts system as opposed to kills makes the old killstreak system much more enjoyable because people go for objectives not kills. Leveling the guns separate of your character makes the decision to switch guns much more of a risk-reward scenario as opposed to I'm a higher lvl so I get the best attachments right away. Overall the maps are a little repetitive but i guarantee the first map pack that comes out will fix that. Expand

I reached rank 6, threw the controller to the floor, and went back to the store, traded it for batman: arkham city. if you want a good FPS this year, look no further than EA's battlefield 3. Expand

I actually can say I was somewhat interested in MW3 just because of the story. MW2's campaign was actually a good one so I thought the follow up in MW3 would be a decent one. Sadly, this is not the case. MW3's campaign edges on your patience mission by mission following up with one boring step at a time. I had forced myself to play on hoping something exciting would happen. UnfortunatelyI actually can say I was somewhat interested in MW3 just because of the story. MW3's campaign edges on your patience mission by mission following up with one boring step at a time. I had forced myself to play on hoping something exciting would happen. Unfortunately it took about half of the time I spent playing before something interesting actually happened, it took me until the level with the sandstorm to not get bored for a while. Then after that. The game once again starts to become less and less interesting. It took me a little under seven hours to complete the campaign on veteran. It might just be a matter of perspective but I thought it was much more fun in MW2 playing as the Rangers as apposed to MW3's DF. The graphics aren't much different then MW2. In fact they're exactly the same. Nothing has improved. You even see some of the same objects that were in MW2. Sounds of guns are okay but I have run into a few situations where the game will mess up and I'll hear a static-ish screeching that will force me to turn my sound all the way down until it stops. Half of the music flat out sucks. It's probably the worst soundtrack of any of the CoD series. You hear the delta force music so much that the mute button on your TV actually becomes useful. On to the multiplayer. In my eyes MW3 is slightly better then the camp fest known as MW2. It's no CoD4 but it's decent. Until the lag hits. Wow this game lags far worse then Black Ops ever did online. This company has made over a billion dollars from the Call of Duty name and they can't get better servers? The constant freezing in games and lag makes this game a joke. Just like Black ops and MW2 a lot of the maps in the game feel like they were designed to suck. This game's online interface has taken a huge step back from where BO was going too. The lack of in depth stat tracking and MW3's terrible theatre, which for some reason doesn't work for me half of the time (Out of Memory.) . I feel like whoever was working on the MP aspect just threw stuff together and called it a day. All in all. This game is below being what could be considered mediocre at best. The campaign blows. Survival should have been 4 players, and the online is really laggy. I seriously hope if there is a MW4 IW gets their crap together because if this is the sign of all things to come it looks like Treyarch is going to be the only one dropping out decent CoD's. Expand

I think that this game is a great. I think that it is definatly better than black ops and also mw3. I dont understand why the game is getting so much hate. Realistically how much can you really change in the multiplayer? Not a lot. I also think that the campaign is an upgrade to the previous call of duty games because it is the first campaign that I have actually completed.

I've never played MW2, so I'm not biased by any previous experience with the series. Plus, although I'm an old schooll gamer, born in the Atari years, I'm quite new to online PVP and everything feels quite fresh to me, so I can't state wether MW3 is "more of the same" or not. What I CAN say is: this game just seems really poorly conceived, and I feel that the people behind its wheels didn't make such an effort to trimm and polish as they should (maybe because they knew it was gonna sell anyway, and that only proves the value of good marketing). The story mode is lame and has absolutely no plot to sustain it for a long time (ok, plots are not the forte of this kind of game, but even a simple, linear one would do), and the PVP is equally bad. The pairing of levels, for instance, is non-existent. I don't mind dying a lot (in fact, I find it quite laughable), but playing against 80 LVL players while being just 6 or 7 is just unfair. Dark Souls, for example (which is not a PVP game but has its share of it), only puts players of similar levels against one another, making winning a match much more gratifying because you're winning on your skill and not on the lack of others'. Plus, the gaming itself doesn't seem to be fluid enough or to offer such a variety of experiences to add to the fun. Resistance III, at least, has its miriad of weaponry with different effects and, although the end is the same (killing and dying), the means by which you get to it are a little more colorfull and amusing. In fact, playing MW3 is mostly a question of "respawn-run-die-respawn again" (with the eventual interlapse of killing someone yourself), and after you die THE SAME WAY the first ten times, you've seen pretty much everything there is to bee seen. This, added to the fact that the players in general don't seem to be mildly interested in cooperating with the others (even when playing on the same side) and keep cursing all the time (and some of the cursing, besides being rude and unnecessary, have a tone of prejudice that is really appalling and should be noted by whoever is controlling the whole thing), really makes this game not worth the money I spent with it. In the end, it may be that MW3 is just not my kind of game, but judging from the content of other comments I've read, this may not be the only problem with it. A final comment: I'm really disgusted by the nerve of the specialized critics that are bashing Metacritic users, right now. As far as I now, people here are REAL players, spend their money maintaining the games industry on the top, are entitled to their opinions and deserve a place to express themselves. If game companies define their projects solely on specialized opinions, and not on the average "Joe" that plays day in, day out, I fear for the creative future of this industry. Just saying. Expand

Starting with the singleplayer, I think it is definitely better than MW2 about everything. Very strong story, characters, action packed levels combined with detailed conversations. However the singleplayer is still a step down from the thrilling CoD4 experience.

Spec Ops is really fun. With the new survival mode I think it is more fun than the zombies. Survival is great with the maps, weapons, upgrade system, money system and variety of enemies. The mission part of Spec Ops is like MW2 but I think the missions are longer and want the player to get into action a little bit more. Generally Spec Ops is better than MW2 as well.
Coming to multiplayer, most played section of the game. The fast paced Modern Warfare multiplayer is back with new chain kill or point streak system, kill confirmed game mode, new weapons, new weapon upgrade system etc. Nothing much the say about multiplayer I think. The same addictive and absolutely fun MW multiplayer is back like the previous MW games. One thing I saw about the MW3 multiplayer is this multiplayer is more tactical and defensive compared to MW2 multiplayer. I think this is better because it gives you the chance to reflect your playing-style better and use the advantage of the stronger sides in your gamesytle. Graphics, better than MW2 but worse than BF3 to be honest.
Generally, this game has great singleplayer, exciting spec ops and addictingly fun multiplayer.
The battle with BF3? I think MW3 wins this one because of the more detailed singleplayer, variety of singleplayer in spec ops and I think with the multiplayer that a FPS game must have.

MW2.5... I play it a lot, but am not impressed w/ the re-hash of practically everything. They need to step their game up and put out something more original and groundbreaking instead of pocketing billions of dollars.

The streamlined nature of the online multiplayer is quite addictive and is fast pasted both in gameplay and in loading times. There have been a few glitches/server losses, but that only means I have to wait another 45 seconds to get back into it. No big deal.

Why not a "10"? There is room for improvement, particularly in the graphics. But COD MW3 is, nonetheless, and enjoyable game, over and over.

On a side note, it's interesting that sports fans don't mind picking up a only slightly revamped Madden every year, or anything from 2K games, but FPS fans (on this site in particular) are rabid about things like "developer laziness" or because it lacks a particular element some gamer preferred. And yet, regardless of the low scores, there are anywhere from 600K to 900K online playing - er - enjoying MW3 at any given time.

Wow. I might had low hopes for this game, but it even managed to fail to achieve them. 80% of the killstreaks are the same.. Survival is sorry attempted at zombies and fails miserably. Now, I am not gonna say that this is one of the worst games ever, like my fellow metacritics, but this is very, very bad. Graphics are even a little worse that in MW2 (?!?!), due to the buggy AA. Mechanics could not be more old-styled, I felt even first Mario had better controls. Now don´t get me wrong, the story is good, but most of the game I laughed, or yelled about why did I even bough this. My advice - Do not buy it. You are just making them continue doing the easy work and release MW4 unfinished, like sadly, this game was. Expand

This game is not a 10 out of 10, but its not a 2.8 either. All of these 0's are trolling at its finest. Why fix somthing if it isn't broken? That said, the improvments made are (mostly) welcome ones. The campaign brings a satisfying conclusion to a story started 4 years ago. It includes the big budget stunts and set pieces that we've come to expect from CoD. Every explosion is bigger and every set piece is more exciting. I have never been a huge fan of CoD multiplayer, but MW2 was perfection incarnate. With MW3 every map, weapon, and perk seem to favor fast, twitch response gameplay over the larger, more deliberate maps and "Play how you want" mentality of MW2's customization options and I find that disappointing.

The new survival game mode is the normal horde mode with a CoD twist. Adding CoD's frantic, sweat enducing gameplay to a tried and true mode of many other games. This isn't the greatest game ever, maybe not the greatest CoD, but what new aspects it brings to the table, the hard work of the makers of the game, and the innovation the series has brought to it's genre are not deserving of the 0's people have given it because they want to send a message, or they want to show everyone they aren't part of the crowd, or just out of boerdom. CoD doesnt deseve this, Infinity Ward doesnt deserve this, potential buyers dont deserve this, and Activision? well maybe Activision does deserve this.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
