I've never wrote a review before but after seeing the score this game has received I feel like I should. The campaign while short I did enjoy at first but as it progressed I only found myself playing it just to see what happens to Soap and Captain Price and I wouldn't play the campaign again. I did however enjoy the CoD4 references such as Kamarov and Cpt. MacMillan making small returns and watching the sniper shot to Zakhaev and Al Asads nuke going off from the other side too. I wasn't a fan of the original spec ops and I'm not too impressed here either. The missions are recylced with different objectives and I personally didn't find it all that fun, even with a friend. Survival mode is a new addition to mirror Nazi Zombies and holds up well. You can choose from any map to play on and have access to air support and an armory. It's fun but why can you only play with one friend? If you could play up to 4 it'd be even better. Now the main part of CoD, the multiplayer. On paper it seems the most balanced CoD yet, there doesn't seem to be any overpowered perks and strike packages add a new twist to let even the worst of the players achieve something. The weapon leveling I approve of too. But the map design is awful, I could find 2 or 3 maps that I really enjoyed to play on. The rest have no flow to them. I'm not the best CoD player nor the worst but even I couldn't find that much fun to be had here. It's still a lot of headless chickens running about with UMPs or ACR's and you're killed almost instantly. Still it's always fun to kill half an hour or so. Overall I'm not impressed with this game. It is the same as before which is both good and bad but the CoD series is getting very boring to me now. If anybody reads this I hope it somewhat helps you. Thanks for reading and this is only my opinion. Expand

Not a bad game, but it's really just MW2 repackaged to sap more money from gamers.

It's just too much like the previous game to warrant the price tag. This is becoming the norm for this series though...thankfully BF3 doesn't disappoint.

Love the game but even with a good connection on line play just lags all the time. I can go back and play other games in this series and have a great online experience. Not really sure how they messed this up in Modern Warfare 3 but in my mind I wasted my money.

To be blunt, part of the low scores reflect the anger at feeling duped by critics who have given scores that only seem strengthen the belief that reviews are contingent upon a culture of satisfying the developer$ need$ at the expense of game development and industry health. Everyone understands the need to be profitable, so what you have here is the first shot across the bow that a great marketing campaign and the good will of fans of previous entries will no longer work in an annual business model. Which brings us to the extremely specialized evolution of the franchise, and not for the better. For me MW3 is still riding on the coattails of COD4: MW in terms of gameplay. MW was a hyper-realistic fast-twitch fps that had great map variation and a variety of builds/playstyles that were all viable. With MW2 you had sleeker graphics and even twitchier gameplay. The problem is that map variation and playstyle variety really started to suffer. I killed quicker, died faster, and looked prettier doing it. Unfortunately I had far less fun doing it and far less ways to do it competitively. With the advent of MW3, the game has evolved to an exclusionary extreme where map memorization and fast-twitch gameplay are 95% of the game. If your hand-eye coordination isn't top-notch or you don't invest 10+ hours a week into the game, frustration ensues. To add to the betrayal, it's almost all rehash and no innovation. Maps no longer offer any sense of variation and feel like rushed, inferior versions of previous entries in the franchise. Builds are a joke. Don't expect to properly breach with close combat builds, snipe properly from long range, or use a stealth build to gain any kind of edge. Fast-twitch and map recognition (along with a fast connection) are now kings of a long-since dead kingdom. Many of us are very angry that it cost us $60 to find out the hard way, and after being lied to ta boot by critics. Unless the franchise is revolutionized, I'll never buy another MW game. Expand

I know same ol' same ol' repeat of modern warfare 2, but that comment pretty much sums it up. The guns are the same, with the exception of a few pretty good guns. The addition of the strike packages add a new twist, but realistically, along with the kill streaks, they are the same as MW2. One thing i really did like about the multiplayer is being able to carry streaks across deaths, being as how for me its kill, death, kill, death, and so on, and so on. (Also, drop zone is the one thing that kept me playing the game. On to campaign, overall it was an alright campaign, for the fact that it was fresh, and a little interesting, but always being on the brink of death isn't fun in any of the Call of Duty games. In spec ops, the addition of survival is pretty fun, but it is a poor attempt at combating Treyarch's/ Activision's zombies. The missions are a nice challenge. Expand

I noticed the lag is not as bad as it used to be so I think they are working on that issue. I think this game deserves more because the maps are just flat out fun. The multiplayer is just basically the same formula from mw2 with changes for balancing issues but I did feel infinite ward got lazy with this title and just rehash everything from the previous mw2 and change the 2 to a 3 just so they can release another game. But nonetheless they got what they wanted, the number one largest entertainment launch in history once again. It's amazing how much money a company can make once they get the formula for an addictive game play down, at the same time it's also pretty sad. I am glad this game was merely a gift, as I would not spend a single dime on this "Modern Warfare 2.5" as many are calling it. If Activision really wants to make a better call of duty they NEED to change their engine, and NEED to spend more than 1 year developing a game. Most good games are developed over a long period of time, you cant make a game in one night or even one year for the most part. If Activision really does want the call of duty franchise to continue with the success they have driven them selves into these past years, they really need to sit down, start something new from SCRATCH and not take a dump in one night and slap MW3 on it in a plastic box. In this sense it is the WORST game in the seires. However, This can also be described as the BEST game of the series. The weapon, perk, proficency, and equipment balance seems to have been extremely stressed. The proficiencies have made unpopular or unusuable weapons quite effictive. I also like the new sounds despite the Deagles wimpy sound. The addition of Survival mode has made the co-op section of MW3 compete with Black Ops's Zombies. The SP is decent and will provide a good 4 hours of challenging fun. I felt that CoD4's SP was better, but the last mission of MW3 was a stumper and added a strong closing to the Modern Warfare Series. To me, both quanitity and quality were in mind with this game. New modes, more weapons to tinker with, and will certainly fill your appitite for newness, at least until the DLC comes around. However, I still feel they went overboard on quality and quantity of content (other than maps) and dragged the maps behind. This game is my grandmother stuffing bittersweet chocolate into my mouth. Online is the same as always, long, fun and progressive, but it is sort of the same as MW2 online, (except for the maps). Survivor mode is the highlight of the game for me, what is more fun than mowing down hundreds of enemies. On a map like resistance its quite a calm level where you just have fun killing people, (until wave 26 when you get like 3 juggernauts, 2 helicopters a ton of attack dogs and suicide bombers as well as the normal guys who are heavily armoured anyway). but on a map like lock down, you need to be on your toes as the enemies get harder quicker. Survivor mode is great fun and every map is great.

Special ops aren't as good as they were in MW2 but they are still good, i particularly like the stealth ones. but some missions are just a bit to hard and get annoying when you keep on dying, but still, the special are good.

COD has not add any new major features since modern warfare. The run and gun style shooting is not realistic. Modern Warfare 3 is a huge disappointment. MW3 is just another reason the COD series is on its downfall.

I have played it it IS THE SAME AS MW2. why would you buy it again ?? Activision is laughing all the way to the bank! This is pathetic and should have been released as an expansion pack nothing more!

I'm been cod fan since cod4. But when I got this game. the campaign was ok. Spec ops was meh, but the multiplayer is terrrible. this game was alot worser compared to other cods. They are using the same formula and this look like another mw2 dlc. Yet this game had lacked improvement. This game is overall meh.

Hello fellow gamers. Today I will give all you gamers a completely honest review of the game Modern Warfare 3. I will give you my approximate game time in each mode to help you decide if you want this game. It isHello fellow gamers. Today I will give all you gamers a completely honest review of the game Modern Warfare 3. I will give you my approximate game time in each mode to help you decide if you want this game. First off I want to say that the campaign is preatty good although very short and feels like more missions to mw2, (this could be good or bad depending on whether you liked mw2). It is highly cinematic and very intense. The high intensity and the fairly good story is great but the fact that it only took me four and a half hours to complete it is preatty terrible. Now time for the spec ops. The missions in this game are kind of dissapointing to me. Where as in mw2 you had to earn a certain amount of stars to unlock the next set of missions, mw3 allows you to unlock them through levelling up your spec ops rank. This wouldn't be too bad but you unlock all the missions while you are still a fairly low level. The survival mode is better then the missions, however it is still no zombies. In total I spent around 8 hours with the spec ops mode. Now on to the main selling factor... Multiplayer. First off I think it is very impressive how infinity ward included 15-16 maps. The multiplayer in this game is feels very recycled. The main thing in this game that makes it feel fresh is the new strike packages. I also found it fun to level up in this game because there is so much to unlock. However after you have seen all there is to unlock I found I didnt really have much to do any more because just playing for the fun after you have seen the unlock feels highly boring because it feels just like mw2 which I played the heck out of. I have roughly 30 hours on this multiplayer component. My verdict is that if you have owned past call of duty's and played them a lot then you might want to stay out of this one and pick up a more quality release like battlefield 3 uncharted 3 or skyrim. On the other hand if you have never owned a call of duty before now is the perfect chance and this game will give you more enjoyment then past call of duty's. I would give this game around a four or five if you own past cod's and a solid eight if you havn't there fore decideing to give it a six. :D Expand

In defense of MW3 as a creative work, Activision and company have been resting on those laurels for the last 4 COD titles. It just took this last one for the majority of consumers to notice. I say "last one" because if you, the consumer, allow this franchise to steal your money again you're crazy. Much like all the reviewers who gave this game anything abouve a 7 out of 10. Stupid, because it does nothing to make you think about what is happening. It's brain-washing pro-war story all the way, nothing new under the sun, very stereotypical characters, poor voice acting, etc, etc...
In fact, it makes me wonder : are people REALLY stupid ? Seeing this sh*tty product is selling like small bread really makes me wonder. Do people really want to reward developers for such a work ? Do people really want to endorse what is IMO the biggest overhyped game in history ?

The sound effects are beyond terrible. For example, one of the pistols (forget which one) sounds like a short burst of static when you shoot it... Some voice samples are almost comical. The in game mic quality is on a third world level. The maps are cluttered and boring. The menu and points etc popping up on the screen are a copy & paste from MW2. The perk tiers are messed up (quick reload and aim down sights now takes up 2 slots). 'Hekkkktik epic quikscoppezzz' are back.... COD Elite is a total waste of money. The campaign has some interesting parts, but is generally boring gameplay. Honestly the game is just garbage. It has become the McDonalds of the games industry. People keep going back for more, but really, it's just crap.

After 5 years or so of basically playing COD exclusively (not quite, but pretty bloody close to it), I think I'm done with the series.

Offcourse I bought the game to play online, again disappointing! Being used to MW2, the maps are much smaller (or atleast feel smaller) and as a result the players are all running around, resulting in a high killrate, getting killed fast and often. Less places to hide, not able to hide in bushes, no real sniper maps. Why didn't they just add these new maps as an add-on to MW2? Maybe one or two extra weapons? A sequel is supposed to be little tweaks, new story, new maps / areas and maybe a new mode. All of the above series do that, yet CoD gets the crap. It is a completely baseless argument! So stop just giving 0's, 1's and 2's because you haven't played it and THINK it is a map pack because it is not. Beside at least it isn't trying to milk you with online passes. I am by no means a super CoD lover or a Battlefield hater, I respect both, I just think what is being done here is a horrible injustice

Now down to the actual review. First off, the story. The story / campaign is actually the best so far, it doesn't try to make you a superhero who takes down an army, it is believable and challenging too, you are constantly feeling the pressure and unlike previous games the fighting style isn't stand in an area, kill, move on, stand in an area, kill, move on, it is fast moving, well paced and very fluid. It always elevates that WW3 feeling with a constant sense of dread and hopefulness, but at the same time it feels like you are running and keep on moving so that there is a chance to make it out of this war. The areas you go to in the game are all incredibly varied, so if it is 'just a map pack' then the campaign 'maps' are pretty damn good. The campaign took me 5h 54m on normal difficulty and it was the least convoluted, easy to follow and solid plot in the series so far. As far as the characters go, I am impressed. They are moving away from the silent type of character that is just a camera, hands and a gun that I hate. Yuri is a very interesting, specifically when you find out about his past towards the end of the game, character to play as and Soap and Price who you work with as Yuri are both very true to their characters in past iterations. The random soldiers that you play as in every game, are good in this one. They were the first ones I really actually cared about and liked playing as. Even if I did not like the specific soldier you play as who (***SEMI SPOILER does not get any real closure in the story SPOILER OVER***) but Sandman the leader is interesting and believable. You also play as a few characters for other levels which is decent as it puts you in an unexpected point of view sometimes. The series concludes very well and is the best campaign yet. 8.5/10 on the Campaign

The multiplayer is yes, still aim down your sight and shoot, and run and knife and killstreak and grenade and flash bang. But this game has the most (and highest quality) maps in any CoD game so far, the killstreaks are no longer unbalanced like the chopper gunner and the hind or the nuke and the new system of them going under 3 categories (Assault, Support and Specialist) is very good and innovative, while you may not spend much time deciding between Assault and support, you will when choosing between those and specialist which allows you every 2 kills to get an additional perk which is certainly very handy. The guns are great, you always have at least 5 options, 8+ for some, in the different gun classes. They are all balanced and you will usually find one or two in each gun type that you want, and the weapon leveling system whereby you level it by using it rather then needing to complete annoying challenges or buy it like in MW2 or Black ops, is much better. The leveling system itself is the same as it has been, which is a leveling system, you get exp, your bar goes up, you level, but now they actually reward you for prestiging. Lag is nearly non-existent and you will never find a larger and more permanent player base then this, 9/10 for the multiplayer.

I will quickly touch on the spec ops, it is (for the missions) the same as MW2, a bit more creative though. The survival mode was something I didn't want, I would rather nazi zombies, but it is actually very, very good. There is also matchmaking for both survival and the missions and split screen support which I LOVE. The missions do feel a bit meh sometimes though, 7.5 / 10 for spec ops.

Overall this game is great. If you want to wait for a price drop, then do, but it is worth giving a chance!

Score = 8.5+0.5 for split screen support (allows online play with a guest using split screen), great maps and great balancing as well as general easy to play, arcade style gameplay.

    OVERALL = 9/10

It's not so much the game but the community that breaks this game. As someone who enjoys heavily team based games like Battlefield etc MW3 offers very little. It seems that the game promotes kill whoring a little too much which leads to players more obsessed with their k/dr than actually winning.

So either make large maps for snipers or better yet, get rid of the rifles. I think it is sad to say but each time a new COD game comes out, I lose respect for the franchise a little more. So far to date, MW2 is the best game that has been made. I thought World at War was bad till I bought and played MW3 which now takes the lead on the worst COD game in my opinion. If this is where the franchise is going to continue to head with the game, then I must say that it is highly unlikely that the franchise will get any more money out of my household. I don't see how they can't see that this is the same recycled material all over again! Jumping right into the game excited to play, I was taken back by the same graphics (from the first MW) and very little variety in abilities by your player in the single player version. Come on Activision you are supported by Blizzard they can't give you enough money to get/create a new game engine?! With that being said, the story line was captivating enough over the years to get me to purchase the game, mainly due to the fact that I wanted to see what happened next. In truth, most First Person Shooters do not change all that much over the years; but with the Modern Warfare (MW) series just seems to get worse not better over the years. The multi-player is just poorly executed. MW3 gives players the same abilities in roughly the same size levels as MW, MW2; this in turns makes a potent mix for players. It is often frustrating to play multi-player with randomly being killed when spawning, and the infamous grenade throw from across the level. You think over the past years that these things would be handle or at least researched to try to improve for a better multi-player gamer experience. In my opinion you are playing a steroid version of Counter Strike Source, in the sense that all the levels are the same size and the pace of the game is extremely too fast to be enjoyable. Things I would like to see implemented in multi-player. 1. If you are in a building have the ability to set up fortifications; based off the amount of kills you get. It would add an element of challenge to the game oppose to people doing the dolphin flop (going from full stand to prone) and somehow killing people with head shots. Also as a catalyst to the people who are doing these fortifications the people with Air Support Perks whatever they may be can blow the buildings up. Seriously Activision, it has been over four years make the darn building blow apart; you did it in the campaign! 2. I say this with the utmost respect, expand the Goddamn Maps!!!!!! I am tired of playing small levels and getting blown up at my spawn point, however random it may be. I have enjoyed playing Activision's Games for many, many years but this game and this franchise; at this point I don't see redeeming itself. I dare it to do better! Expand

Yes, I'm one of the millions that bought this game thinking that Activision and Bobby Kotick would allow some time, effort, and innovation for this game and treat it differently than other franchises that have been grinded into dry dust like Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk but we were trolled again. To me the 4 is a fair rating. It's mediocre and that's all the due that this game will get. For months I waited on the fence wondering whether or not I should get this game or Battlefield 3 and I chose this game to play with the large group of friends I have online. I knew that yes, it's being hounded by Activision, that most of the original staff of Infinity Ward left with their original bosses to create Respawn, and that IW once again decided against giving users a Beta to test the game out early...and now I see why just as everyone else has. Patched, reused graphics engine from MW1 and MW2 with a limited color palette that allows easy blending into environments, a recycled and repackaged Multiplayer and Killstreak system that no longer promotes a great player from pulling away from the pack, the maps in this game are badly designed that allow for either too much map circulation -or- choke point disadvantages by snipers and rear coverage, the weapon stats are incorrect once again (check with the PC's gun files that has been uploaded online...), and the revelation that there are even less game modes in MW3 than in Black Ops. I also feel that MW2's storyline ended up "jumping the shark" bad enough to gimp MW3's story with attempts to one-up the previous iteration. The icing on this bland cake? The Call of Duty ELITE, which charges you a hefty fee to follow your stats and give you a bit of an edge against your online competition...which...EA does that for free with Battlefield and I can even remember EA doing it for Need For Speed recently. The videos and tips you can get from ELITE? You can get that on Youtube from users like Machinima for free.

Back the 1990's video games got fair and unbiased reviews. Reviewers expected a natural progression from a series' starting point going into each sequel and if that game failed to improve, it got stagnant scores or worse. To the "professional" raters that have given this game anywhere between 7 to 10, do users a favor and reflect on what field you are in and change jobs. The apex of this series was MW2 and the Call of Duty franchise has been slipping ever since. At no point is this game worth the $60 admission price. A balley-hooed patch-and-map pack release at full price. Please guys, let's not let Bobby KoTICK and crew continue to rip us off.

I was looking forward to it, it was one of my highest anticipated games since GTA 4 back in 2008. Infinity Ward really took a hit when 40+ people left, MW3 is the result of it. While I'm not saying it was bad, I would prefer the last 2 modern warfares over this.

The story was pretty good, the new guy Yuri is like Soap was back in COD4. It was also pretty touching the way the events leading up to Soap's death transpired, but the ending was the sweet revenge we all were waiting for.

There are also those who absolutely love this game because it's a Call of Duty game. For me, I bought the game having nothing against the Call of Duty series, mainly because I never play any of the games unless my friends are. This means that my score for this game will not be affected by the terms listed above. First, the Campaign mode. The campaign mode is the same as you've probably already predicted... It's action-packed, the screen is loaded with explosions, and there are tons of vehichle sections. I personally found nothing wrong with the story except for the predictability of it, the fact that the Ranger squad from Modern Warfare 2 doesn't make an appearance, and how short it is. I ended up beating this Campaign in around 5 hours on Regular and 8 hours on Veteran. The main problems of the Campaign come from the terrible AI that remains unchanged from all of the Call of Duty games. The AI will always know where you are and will stop at nothing to stop your progress... Which would be fine if you weren't supposedly controlling some average soldier. Instead of worrying about your teammates that are only a few meters away, they will always focus their fire on you. However, there are many exciting set pieces in the campaign that can make up for some of these problems. The Spec Ops has two different gameplay modes, both of which are very fun and addictive. Survival mode is a mode in which you do your best to survive increasingly difficult waves of enemies, such as dogs, suicide bombers, juggernauts, and chemical agents. In order to survive these enemies, you must go to the three terminals which allow you to buy and upgrade weapons, place traps, call in airstrikes, or buy defensive equipment... But there is a drawback however. In this mode you start with only a few of these options, upgrades, and weapon varieties, and to unlock more you must increase your Spec Ops level. I also found it slightly disappointing that you can only play with up to two players in this mode, instead of four players. The mission mode has returned and it comes with a great amount of variety. In one mission you have to disarm bombs, in another you can control juggernauts, and in my favorite mission one player controls sentry guns in order to help the other player reach the objective in time. These modes require much more thinking and cooperation than the rest of the game and it's a welcome return in my book. And finally, the main aspect of the game... the multiplayer portion. The general Call of Duty gameplay has returned, but only with a few additions and changes. The new multiplayer has introduced Strike Packages, which allow you to change the way your killstreaks work, there is Assault (The regular old-style system that has been used since COD4), Support (Used to support your team and your killstreak doesn't reset), and Specialist (You get perks instead of Killstreak rewards). They also added a new weapon proficiency system, where you have to level up your weapons to get your attatchments, camos, RD sights, and so on. And of course, they added new perks along with all of the perks that you'd expect to see in any Call of Duty game (Scavenger, Sleight of Hand). Also, playing the objective of the game mode or destroying enemy killstreaks will add to your killstreaks, as well as shooting at people. Other than that and a couple new gameplay modes, that's just about all the gameplay changes in this game. The melee system still has major issues, the spawning is terrible, and camping is just about the easiest way of getting kills. Any weapon that had balance issues before (UMP, Scar, ACR) is back and is still overpowered. The lag in this game is unbelievable at certain times (Sometimes it would skip every 5 seconds). And the multiplayer community doesn't help any of these issues either, instead they choose to exploit these issues... Doing anything possible to win. However, the multiplayer is still addictive at certain times despite all of these flaws... Especially when playing with friends. Overall, this game was fun but was held back a little bit by some of its flaws, especially on the Campaign and its acclaimed multiplayer. These flaws didn't make the game terrible, but they did make the game not as good as the previous Modern Warfares. But, if you are a person who is completely trashing the game and giving it a brutally low score... Just remember, the game was made in around a year. You can't expect to shove an insane number of changes in a videogame formula in under a year and even if you did, it would be even more laggy and unplayable than it is now. So in the end, Infinity Ward did a decent job, so their game gets a decent score: an 8/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is mostly the same on both the 360 and the PS3 versions, but there are a few performance issues that must be noted.

The open microphone system in online multiplayer on the PS3 cuts in and out semi-frequently. It's not enough to make anyone inaudible, but it is a slight annoyance.

While the 360 boasts a whopping 60 frames per second, it feels and looks as if the PS3 is running at 45 to 50 fps. This isn't a huge deal, but if you notice the little details, you will notice this, though 45 frames would still be higher than most other games out in this category of modern first person shooters.

The online connection between players doesn't seem to be as good as that of the 360's version either for some reason, though, it is hardly noticeable. Once again, only someone with a sharp eye who lives and breathes gaming would notice this.

I still recommend this game whole-heatedly. Though, if you have the option to choose between owning it on the XBOX 360 or PS3, choose the 360 version. The slight differences make it worth choosing one over the other.
