Why did I pay 180 euro's for 3 times the same game? It's sad that Infinity Ward treats it's userbase so badly. The singleplayer is the stupidest I ever seen. I was happy when I noticed that it contains only 4 hours of gameplay.

I am even more sad of the gigantic stupid fanbase who plays this game and dares to call themselves gamers.

Same old, same old. You can't expect that by adding 4 million new things to multiplayer it will be improved in any way. It's just a way of saying oh look at me, look how complex and multi-faceted I am. And asking people to vote one here because the user score was looking low? That's not good... not good at all...

This is my first review at Metacritic. I've never written a review for a game but I just had to spend some of my time writing this because I thought this game is awful and seriously flawed and wanted to warn others not to dish out $60 for this poor game, even if everyone on your friend's list is playing this game. Like many people have said, MW 3 is more like MW 2.5 but people fail to mention that it's a step backwards from Black Ops which is extremely disappointing. When Black Ops came out, it was successful because it wanted to incorporate social networking elements. For example, you could design your own playercard by making a custom emblem and selecting from a wide array of backgrounds. You could mark your gun with the emblem. MW3 does not have playercards, it's essentially the exact same as MW2. Not only that, theater mode in MW3 is a mess, you can't keep track of what everyone's score is until the very end of the match, and flipping through different players is difficult because each time you switch, you look at a 3rd person view and must look at their gamer tag that way. The Maps are just awful too. They are all crowded with buildings and have many camping spots. When the game was advertised, it seemed like the maps would be cool because it'll be in urban places like New York and London. The problem is, they all look the same so you don't really feel like you're elsewhere. Combat Record is also gone in MW3. Instead, it's replaced by a extremely simplified one page list that cover the basics like K/D ratio and Wins and Losses. It's not like Black Ops where it tells you extremely detailed information about your gameplay. I've heard there's COD Elite, but first of all, I don't feel like installing an App on my PS3 and have to switch to it just to look at my Stats. Not only that, they want you to fork over 50 bucks for COD Elite and I use am not going to do that. Creating classes are also time consuming, as you have to go through a step by step process to add different attachments to guns. The Graphics are also the exactly the same as MW2. I'm extremely disappointed, and I wish I had listened to everyone else's reviews. The only improvement I've noticed is that the load times are a little shorter than Black Ops, but could it be because "MW 3" or I mean "MW 2.5" is a Step Backwards from Black Ops? Expand

To this day I still play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, not because I am poor or against what's cool and popular but because there is no actual solid new features included in COD4's successors(both MW2 and MW3) that would warrant a purchase from me; it is quite evident that the evolution of the series has yet to take place. I have rented MW3 for a day, for about $2.13, and believe me when I say I feel like a fool for paying $2 dollars to play a game that I already own. For those that wasted the full $60 + tax, you have my sympathies. The only graphical differences in the MW3 is the lighting, they tweaked with the lighting in MW2 also. Who are they trying to fool? 2 years between each game and the only visual improvement is something that can be applied to the previous game via patch?! The campaign is lackluster, explosions and "spontaneous" events are suppose to keep you on the edge of your seat but all it does is make me think about the better ways that I could've spent those two dollars I threw away renting this game. The multiplayer is mediocre, it has the fun aspects of COD 4(obviously), the frustration of MW2, and lacks the amount of customization that was present in Black Ops; overall, not a good mix. The gameplay keeps you wanting to play and give the game a chance, but the fact that there's overpowered killstreaks and anybody that manages to get three kills in a row is basically handed the win keeps you irritated, shaking your head, and ultimately bored. Unlike COD 4, where there are no ultra-overpowered killstreaks and the perks are balanced out, MW3 is, exactly what it set out to be, a super easy game that takes less skill. COD 4 is easy to pick up and play, but MW3 is RIDICULOUSLY easy to pick up and play; by my 3rd match I was already getting the top score, It took me about 10 or so on COD 4, and about 5 on Black Ops. How can somebody that doesn't know the maps get the top score on their third try? Killstreaks and an abundance of perks. There's little to no skill involved, the outcome of how good you will do is determined in the beginning of the match by how well your internet connection is at that juncture. Which leads me to another complaint, Activision, billions upon billions of profits later still no dedicated servers?! When games with a lower budget like Homefront can provide its users with dedicated servers? we all know that you are evil and that you are trying to take over the world by riding this COD bus until it breaks down and you end up with trillions upon trillions of dollars, just enough for the CEO of Activision to relieve himself of his daddy issues, but atleast try to delude us into thinking you are making somewhat of a quality product by investing atleast a couple of thousands or less on dedicated servers. It is insulting to gamer's intelligence to even release this game without the aforementioned. I only see little Jimmy playing this when his parents are asleep, or Brad and Chad after coming off of a very touchy lockeroom scenario and are ready to indulge in the usual dudebro fest. Expand

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.... I hope everyone enjoys $60.00 map packs. CoD has become so generic it's not even fun or worth it to buy the newest version. It sits in the same boat as Madden, the developers feel the need to re-make the game every year in an attempt to maximize profits. Call of Duty died for me after Call of Duty 4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So i got this game on release date and i am very shocked at how well this game came out. From the epic single player campaign to the awesome multiplayer and spec ops. The gun play has been balanced and so have the nobtubes and rockets and all the explosives. The new packages offer a wide variety of gameplay to the super "lone wolf" to the team- based player. The maps feel like modern warfare maps with the firefights usually occuring in houses and open ground and snipers now have a better chance at long range gameplay. No gun is overpowered since i have used all of them and kick butt with all of them equally. The elite package is an awesome upgrade to the game allowing you to see all of your games played and where you died and by who and by what gun. ELite TV is freaking amazing telling you how to play each map for certain types of game modes and how to use each gun with very specific details. The new killstreaks are super awesome. Nothing better then walking around with a recon juggernaut and just being a total tank. The specialist package is freaking amazing and is totally worth playing it if your a super lone wolf (25 kills with specialist package gives you a nuke) Expand

Call of Duty 4 was the greatest game of the series...everything after has been downhill. What Sledgehammer admitted to doing with the MP was probably the worst thing TO ME that could've been done. They intentionally removed Sniper Maps in order to eliminate "camping". Why put in Sniper classes if we are not able to properly use them? I love to Run-n-Gun, but I also like to Snipe on certain maps. To pay $60 for a game and then basically to be told how to play it is pathetic. This is ridiculous, as Snipers are not "Run-n-Gunners". Sledgehammer also encourages people to "Quickscope", which is a major disappointment. This was a huge problem with past CODs, and for them to ENCOURAGE this is really sad. There are many issues with MP that need to be fixed, but Sledgehammer/Activision pretty much could care less since they already have everyone's money that purchased this game. This game doesn't even provide anything new. Everything looks the same and plays the same, with the exception of the sound. The weapons and explosions in this game sound cheap and dull...not even my Turtlebeach Headset could make it sound better. I am glad I bought Battlefield 3, although it has some issues that need to be addressed, but at least Dice acknowledges them and are fixing them. I hate you Activision for what you have done, and I really hate Sledgehammer for killing the COD game by taking out certain maps and encouraging that gay ass quickscoping. This game is rehashed garbage. If anything, it should have been DLC for Modern Warfare 2. Activision is just grabbing people's money. The graphics are exactly the same as MW2, and the story is cliche and boring. Waste of time and money.

Really had high hopes of reviving the MW franchise. But sadly I was wrong. Campaign is just as long as Mw2. Beat it in about 3 hrs. Graphics wise its dated. They use ID Tech 3 engine from 1999. Multilayer is the same. Really disappointed me.

Once again (as with the past 3 iterations) the Call of Duty online multiplayer (you know, part of the game that everyone buys CoD for), is once again broken. Major issues with players teleporting from place to place, rubber-banding lag, nerfed guns and grenades, broken hit detection, lag-switching, and other glitches or exploits that some players have already discovered and are taking advantage of. These problems have been evident since MW2 (MW1 didn't start having these problems until late in its life cycle). If you're looking for a fast, fun, competitive online multiplayer experience then look elsewhere. CoD has gone down the tubes. When a $59 dollar game, one that is supposed to be the best selling game of all time, is broken such as CoD MW3 is, people should be honest and report it. There is no reason or excuse why CoD MW3 should have all of these issues arising with every new game in the series that is released. The single player really doesn't add much to the world of FPSes... want a good single player call of duty? Play CoD 2, or Modern Warfare 1.

As everyone knows though, people play this for the multiplayer, and with an audience as large as the CoD audience, there is no reason why the multiplayer should be this terrible, period!

A gamer cannot appreciate graphics, sound, and most importantly the gameplay, when that gameplay is broken. The experience leaves a absolutely disappointing and awful impression. Apparently, hoping for a game that was as good Modern Warfare 1 has become a exercise in futility and MW3 only proves that things can only get works with CoD under publisher Activision.

    Recommendation:

Do not buy this game! Rent it, play through the single player if you're even remotely interested in the campaign, and then take this garbage back to the place where you rented it. You'll thank me later.

I've played video games since I was an infant, and since being an infant, I've seen the gaming industry go through a revolution. The gaming industry moves faster than in terms of innovation, than any other medium in the WORLD. To me, that is amazing. So I'll begin, with saying I did not have to pay money for this game, I borrowed it from a friend, so its not like I'am upset that I got ripped off. There has only been one game series that I've ever seen before, that completely screwed up every game in their series after the first one. And that game is Halo. Halo one is great game, for us PC fanboys (I used to be) it'll always have a place in our hearts. Then Halo 2 came out, I grabbed that game opening day, and never once in my entire life have I ever been so disappointed by a inanimate object. But you know what the difference between Halo, and Call of Duty is? Bungie (the company behind Halo) actually tried. Bungie actually tried to make a game that would CRUSH, their previous one. And you can see it in every aspect, even if you hate halo 2 and every one after it like I do, you can't help but appreciate the technology they've created, and what they've done. We are getting to a point now, where third party gaming companies (those games the mainstream doesn't buy) after innovating more than Activision. And yes, I know Bungie is a developer, and Activision is a producer. But the difference, is that Bungie's producer tells them "Make a great game", Activision tells their developers "It releases next november". So you can't help but assume the game it already going to be terrible. But no matter I gave it a chance. I myself am I fan of multiplayer, I hate single player everything, so for the benefit of the score of this game, I will not rate the single player. In my opinion, if you are buying this game for the single player, you need psychological help. Anyways, lets take a look. MAPS: Okay, so in standard call of duty fashion, excluding Call of Duty 4 all the maps are designed in a "circle" fashion. Which means that all the players are basically running around the map in a circle all the time. What does this mean for gameplay? It means that no matter what your style is, you will get shot in the back, all the time. Not only that, but the cover is completely useless being that the guns do not have any recoil. Even if you can't be seen by your enemy, they can easily shoot you through a wall. Not only that, but I don't know if this has been a common problem. But probably one of my biggest pet peeves in a game, is giving me the option of spawning into the game, I press that button, and guess what happens? I die. Its extremely easy to figure out the spawns, and sit in a position where you can spawn kill all match. Thats called poor design, and the only difference between this game and Call of duty 4, is some guns have recoil in cod4, and some of the maps are designed so you aren't continuously shot in the back (though not all). GAMEPLAY: Oh god, can we skip this one? NO?! Basically here is what makes Call of duty so addictive, here is why people buy it, and if you like the sound of this, YOU SHOULD BUY THIS GAME. Not rent, you should buy. You will love it I promise. Best feature about call of duty (in my opinion) is turning on your system of choice, and getting into a game as fast as your system turned on. But as soon as I notice this great feature, I just as quickly realize my most hated part of a call of duty game. The gameplay. Its designed, the sprinting, the movement, the recoil on the weapons, the attachment for the weapons, how much it takes for you to die; this is all designed you make you feel like you are the in game version of Jesus Christ. Let me explain; Now lets say, you are absolutely TERRIBLE at first person shooters, call of duty is a perfect first stop IF you know nothing about video games, and what it means to put care into a game. You will do GREAT in call of duty, you will be SO proud of yourself, want to know why? Because of the poor map design, followed by all those things above, you will no matter what enter a scenario, where you will slaughter your enemies, in what way exactly I have no idea. But you will do so well for just a brief 10 seconds, and that for most people is reward enough. SOUND: **** just **** sorry. They have so much money they can afford the biggest names to make an INSANE soundtrack. Not only that, in not one single call of duty game in the history of call of duty have they ever used real gun sounds for all the guns. Meaning you have an MP5k, that actually makes the sound of an FN P90. Which for most, who cares? But for gun dorks like me, its a big deal. GRAPHICS: Call of duty 4? HOW OLD IS THAT GAME, WHY USE THE SAME ENGINE?! Expand

I've been playing call of duty since the 2nd installment. They've had their slip ups from time to time such as the third one in particular but nothing as disappointing as their newest release Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The hype behind this game was staggering! It was talked about by everyone includding people who've never played video games before. I know that there have been some shake ups in their staffing but rather than spending their resources on building a quality game I feel like infinity ward spent all their time on money on marketing. AND THEY DID A DAMN GOOD JOB AT IT! This game is dreadful in every aspect, the multi player being the worst. The single player seems as though it were an after thought, like 'oh yeah, we need to put a campaign mode in too.' The spec ops is still only two players. Who doesn't have more than two friends they play video games with nowadays? Even Gears of War realized that a good co op game mode needs atleast four players involved. The multiplayer however is the reason most people buy this game and it it the biggest reason not to buy it in my humble opinion. I'm not saying I could make a better game but in a way I feel like I could. This seems like such a step backward that it should be in the apple app store not the midnight release of the year. All the maps seemed washed out like your in a never ending sand storm, the spawns suck because you'll spawn with an enemy directly behind you, the kill streaks are terrible! Nothing fun about kill streaks since everyone can earn them now. When you die they don't reset so the game is constantly rumbling from stealth bombers. All I have left to say is that this was the worst $100 I ever spent on a game. I bought the hardened edition that included founder status to COD Elite (which by the way still is not working and is a whole other reason not to buy MW3) I'm happier playing Black Ops which has its own problems but at least it was a step in the right direction when it came out. Modern warfare 3 is terrible! Expand

Oh dear...this is the 'Street Fighter 2 Turbo Champion Edition' of our time. An appallingly lazy and derivative follow-on from a great and storied series - actually, lazy doesn't begin to cover it. Downright sloppy, more like. Then again, what can you really expect when the devs are nothing more than performing monkeys standing on the shoulders of giants?

'Bigger' is not necessarily better. Single player still sucks because the AI is terrible. Never been more frustrated in a game before than being shot from half a mile away by an AI soldier running and firing from the hip. Was a big Call of Duty fan (COD4), but after Black Ops and now this, I won't be buying the next one if it means basically buying this one again but for another £45.

MW3 deserves a zero. I say this with a straight face and the knowledge that I am no fanboy, simply a man who does not like to be lied to. MW3 is not a sequel, it is a glorified expansion pack. If this had been a 20$ map pack for MW2 or Black Ops it might have been acceptable. The fact of the matter is, not enough has changed to warrant the release of this "sequel." The game itself,MW3 deserves a zero. I say this with a straight face and the knowledge that I am no fanboy, simply a man who does not like to be lied to. MW3 is not a sequel, it is a glorified expansion pack. If this had been a 20$ map pack for MW2 or Black Ops it might have been acceptable. The fact of the matter is, not enough has changed to warrant the release of this "sequel." The game itself, reviewed from by a person who has never played COD before is indeed a masterpiece. I'd say it would easily be a 9. However, the fact that this game was developed and released as a"sequel," angers any who have played even one Call of Duty before. Everything is recycled and tired. The fact the developers can get away with this sham is not only reflective of their greed and apparent lack of interest in creating anything innovative, it is reflective of the stupidity of the consumers who buy the product in the first place. If these people continue to support this lunacy, there is no telling how long the COD series will be able to extort gamers from their money to pay more map packs. There is also no telling if this trend will spread, which being a trend that makes the developers more money at the cost of little work it will likely spread to other, well-liked franchises. You see I don't hate MW3. I hate how people don't see MW3 for what it is and appropriately don't buy it. The sooner the COD developers realize they can't **** with their own consumer base, they will put much more EFFORT into their work, improving QUALITY. THEREFORE DO NOT BE SHEEP AND BUY A REHASHED PIECE OF WORK. DEMAND QUALITY YOU DESERVE. Essentially this statement means if MW3 was not bought and made Activision lose money, the next one would actually be worthy of the title Modern Warfare. Here's to the last great COD game, Modern Warfare before they ****ed it all up lol Expand

Then Battlefield Bad Company 2 came out & I never looked back or forward to Black Ops. MW3 showed me that like some of the comments here, They don't have any more fresh ideas, they never had the backbone to change anything or to shy away from 10 to 16 year olds that would beg their parents to purchase the game for them. Online is the same, with little change but a few more flashing words of BONUS. Guns sound lovely but don't pack the punch needed to make me feel I'm in the battle. Same old run and gun attitude, no squad feel at all. Same Block style atmosphere maps, WALLS, STAIRS, WINDOWS oh and plants and burnt out cars. Playing the game has just set it that I will never buy any of the CoD series again. I was so hoping that MW3 was going to change this for me but it hasn't. Come on Activision you are supported by BlizzardI really can't begin to understand how critics are giving MW3 tens. I don't see how they can't see that this is the same recycled material all over again! Jumping right into the game excited to play, I was taken back by the same graphics (from the first MW) and very little variety in abilities by your player in the single player version. Come on Activision you are supported by Blizzard they can't give you enough money to get/create a new game engine?! With that being said, the story line was captivating enough over the years to get me to purchase the game, mainly due to the fact that I wanted to see what happened next. In truth, most First Person Shooters do not change all that much over the years; but with the Modern Warfare (MW) series just seems to get worse not better over the years. The multi-player is just poorly executed. MW3 gives players the same abilities in roughly the same size levels as MW, MW2; this in turns makes a potent mix for players. It is often frustrating to play multi-player with randomly being killed when spawning, and the infamous grenade throw from across the level. You think over the past years that these things would be handle or at least researched to try to improve for a better multi-player gamer experience. In my opinion you are playing a steroid version of Counter Strike Source, in the sense that all the levels are the same size and the pace of the game is extremely too fast to be enjoyable. Things I would like to see implemented in multi-player. 1. If you are in a building have the ability to set up fortifications; based off the amount of kills you get. It would add an element of challenge to the game oppose to people doing the dolphin flop (going from full stand to prone) and somehow killing people with head shots. Also as a catalyst to the people who are doing these fortifications the people with Air Support Perks whatever they may be can blow the buildings up. Seriously Activision, it has been over four years make the darn building blow apart; you did it in the campaign! 2. I say this with the utmost respect, expand the Goddamn Maps!!!!!! I am tired of playing small levels and getting blown up at my spawn point, however random it may be. I have enjoyed playing Activision's Games for many, many years but this game and this franchise; at this point I don't see redeeming itself. I dare it to do better! Expand

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class.
