Really? After 2 years this is what Infinity Ward has to offer? The same gameplay, a few new weapons and a couple of new changes in the multiplayer? This game looks more like MW 2.3

Quite a bore. If you have Black ops, just keep it. MW3 is no better, if not worse.

Spent a couple hours with it last night. I was skeptical of the outrage that people showed over this so-called "$60 expansion" pack, but I'm starting to think they're spot on. The maps contain your standard third-world village, snow facility, construction site... really just re-hashes of the previous game's maps. The engine is more dated and the graphics are worse than the reviews let on. I was quite surprised, but it does not look like a game that was released in 2011. It's a shame that this will probably be the all-time best-selling game in a few months, because it certainly does not deserve that honor, but will be fun if you're looking for an arcade-style shooter rather than a simulator.

I also never noticed the kids/swearing/slurs/degenerates quite like I did last night. Compared to the other games out there, its quite jarring and getting quite old. Or perhaps I'm just getting old.

If you must have CoD, then this is a no-brainer, but if you're on the fence, you might as well stick with MW2 and keep prestiging (it's essentially the same thing) or move to BF3, like I did. It's really hard to recommend this at a $60, $50 or even $40 price tag.

Who needs innovation when you can join the ranks of EA and ignore gaping holes in your game-play as you "remaster" your work? Who wants a new game-play experience when you can hide behind your franchise name and dupe millions into buying a two-year-old sans a few tweaks? Let the sales do the talking; let the sales do the guiding. Those green-colored glasses will surely help you develop the next sixty dollar map pack.

All sarcasm aside, it sickens me as a gaming connoisseur that a company can beat a dead horse and flee the scene with millions of dollars. Those millions of dollars would be better off in the hands of developers who actually know what they are doing. Shame on Activision, and shame on all of the people who think that this game is worth anything more than the series' previous iterations.

There are some additions that have been 'inspired' by other games, like a Horde mode a-la Gears of War 3. The campaign is pretty short, although that's a standard for the series, and the only redeeming quality I can find is the extended re playability offered by the stand-alone Spec Ops missions and the aforementioned Horde Mode. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this game to anyone, at least not at its full price. If you happen to find this at a bargain sale, then perhaps it would offer some buck for your money, especially if you are on a weaker system. Otherwise, just wait for the bundle that includes all 3 Modern Warfare games so you can experience the story from start to finish. This is a rehashed product, and I can't help but wonder what kind of work went into the development of such a game. As a side note, Elite is not currently available for PC. Expand

The campaign took me 4 hours and 40 minutes on Regular difficulty, I took my time loking for hidden intel of which I collected 22 of the 46 pieces, it's the shortest Call of Duty campaign yet and the shortest FPS campaign I've certainly ever played. It's full of impressive set pieces with buildings falling down around the player's linear path, but these superficial big budget set pieces barely hide to anyone with experience with MW or MW2 that so much content from them is recycled with just a few minor edits made to the textures to fool the player into thinking what they're seeing is new (case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5dsOn06w1s - an entire building from CoD4), this goes for character models, animations, weapons, vehicles, gameplay sequences (for example the boat secion in MW2), a huge amount of content is reused and the game seems to be built around what they could recycle more than what they could create from scratch. The lack of originality or even intention to be original is present throughout the entire game. The story itself is actually quite enjoyable and feels as much a sequel to CoD4 and MW2, making it tie together nicely as a trilogy, though some sections make it feel more like a fanfic than a true sequel (considering that most of the people who worked on MW2 left and had nothing to do with MW3), the last mission was more of a QTE filled joke than a satisfying conclusion. I wonder how different it would've turned out had 40 of the key staff from IW, the original and only true CoD developer, due to Activision's disgusting treatment of the series, the staff and their creation. I won't even go to the clunkily added controversial scene involving the death of a random child that felt tacked on or the fact that everyone the player kills in the campaign is either African or Russian.

Spec Ops is a mixed bag, the missions are a mix of fun and terrible, and the Veteran difficulty is like that of the campaign, a very lazily added hard difficulty where the player dies to psychic enemies in around 3 bullets, usually within a second of peeking out from cover (and by peeking I mean moving, as there is still no lean function). The survival mode however is a lot of fun, it works well as two player co-op and a lot of the tedium from the other survival mode in the series, Zombies, is removed by taking out the luck factor with the amount of ammo the player can get and which weapons they acquire. There's a lot of fun to be had here with a friend and it runs smoothly online, the same can't be said for the multiplayer though.

In the previous Call of Duty, Black Ops, quickscoping was removed on the basis it's a cheap exploit of the game's aim assist, and that was a good call, though it annoyed many kids who like to do it in MW2. They brought this back in MW3 to please those kids and without regard for the quality of their game's online, this sums up their approach to the multiplayer. As a reskin of MW2 it of course plays quite similarly, they've made attempts to better balance the game with how effective the knife, grenade launchers and killstreak rewards are (which amongst quickscoping ranked as the biggest complaints of MW2's multiplayer) and the new point streak system is a nice addition, but all of the technical problems with this peer hosted, laggy mess with poor hit detection and terrible matchmaking still remain, taking a lot of the fun out of playing it, along of course with the huge focus on player's stats (made worse by in-depth stat tracking) that has most players approaching the game in as cheap a way as possible to camp themselves to a high kill/death ratio. The new game modes aren't actually to original either, some of them may as well credit other older and more recent games considering they're so close to them in design. The map design itself is a campfest, designed by Raven Software as after the majority of IW including all its creative and technical talent it took the few left at IW and other Activision developer Slegehammer Games to design the bulk of the game and they needed help fitting map design into their tight schedule, as of course a Call of Duty has to be out every single Novemeber in order to monopolise on the Christmas sales.

Lazily made rehash that might as well urinate on the grave of the original Infinity Ward, Activision's approach to this franchise is a good representation of everything that's wrong with the game industry right now.

The problem is these industry heads seem to think that they have something special in their hands and we the consumers should pay top dollar for it. I have news for you Activision, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games & Glen Schofield (I pity you for asking someone to rate your game higher than it really deserves) this isn't a full game worth $64.80. The truth is its a map pack that should have been sold for $9.99 as part of COD4. Visually this game actually has worse graphics than COD4 on the PC. The textures aren't crisp and remind me of textures on a console based video game from last generation. While the graphics aren't entirely a big deal, I have to make a serious complaint against the match making service for ranked servers on the PC. This is a peer to peer connection, I feel like I am on a console and the constant disconnects or lag issues because the host doesn't have the bandwidth required to support a 12 man match is pathetic. Dedicated ranked servers should be made available, this would make the game much more enjoyable on the PC, and I think it would also benefit console users as well. They might have become accustom to this sort of problem and just accept it, but keep shoving the same crap down their throats and they too will eventually start thinking for themselves and walk away from this franchise. I will not purchase another COD game until Infinity Ward actually makes a full game and doesn't just decide to sell a map pack at full price. This game is about multiplayer and that's where most of the people will spend their time playing it. This single player crap of 5-6 hours for $64.80 is absurd. Everything (even the UI) is the same, I wish instead of trying to cram more stuff in you streamlined things like CoD4 - UAV, airstrike and chopper is all you need. Having other options promotes camping and after a couple days i'm already sick to death of it.

Honestly doesn't live up to the hype whatsoever. Feels like MW2 DLC, but worse. It seems that 3 studios can't do as good as one team like DICE or the original Infinity Ward. Who knew that COD would slip in standards like Tony Hawk Skateboarding, Guitar Hero, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro etc. Refund Please...

Gaming is a BUSINESS! Activision delivered with unparalleled precision on what the mass gaming community wants! Live with it folks. The big however, is that I am reviewing quality on a game and it's just a retread (sorry to use the cliche) of what many want. Activision accomplished quantity ($) over quality but if that is what keeps the gaming industry afloat, I almost want to say THANK YOU!

Just another rehash of a rehash of a rehash. Still utilizing the same engine from nearly 4 years ago, same mp component, just diff maps, with diff weapons, and a campaign that can be beat in a matter of a few short hours. Time for this franchise to start looking for a new direction.

A HUGE disappointment. The Call of Duty series has been in decline for quite some time now, and this game will certainly not change that. The Call of Duty series has been in decline for quite some time now, and this game will certainly not change that. I was addicted to COD4: Modern Warfare, and played that game religiously, every night, for almost a year. NONE of the COD games that have come after have been able to sustain that love that I felt for COD4. Black Ops was a somewhat good game, but suffered from terrible maps. In my opinion, all COD games that have come after COD4 have suffered from terrible maps, with each game only having 2 or 3 good maps, and the rest being virtually unplayable due to sheer boredom and poor design. Modern Warfare 3 continues this problem, offering nothing but similar maps, that are tiny, maze-ridden, flat places of boredom. It just sets itself up for players to run around like lunatics, and have no strategy or skill needed. I honestly cannot figure out what happened to the map designers after COD4? Did they all leave to go to other game companies? The gameplay for MW3 is really nothing new. The new Kill Confirmed mode is an interesting twist to Team Deathmatch, but is ridden with campers who just sit around and wait in ambush in order to acquire the dog tags. Graphics are average at best in this game. Controls are still way too loose. Gameplay requires no strategy or skill, and is way too arcade-like. Couple that with the atrocious map design, and there is NO reason to purchase this game. This is easily a rental only. If you want an arcade style run-n-gun FPS, then your clear choice should still be COD4. COD: Black Ops has a little bit better gameplay in it, but still only gets second place behind COD4 due to only having 3 or 4 decent maps, with the rest being terrible. COD4 had great maps, with much more variety than you'd see in future COD games. MW3 offers no real new things that would make it a purchase. The slight changing of the Killstreak system, and addition of a "Survival" mode in Spec Ops is not enough to warrant a purchase. Nothing about this game makes me want to go back to it. After playing it for the past 4 days, I have realized that it just isn't worth playing through any longer - it just isn't fun, and cannot hold my interest at all, unlike COD4. MW3 is essentially just MW2.5, and should have just been released as DLC content (which, in my opinion, is still WAY too overpriced for what you get in COD games - c'mon guys, lower the price for those map packs, since the quality of the maps is so inferior anyway. it is NOT worth $15 for a map pack.....maybe $5 at the most!). Yes, this game will sell a mind-blowing amount of copies this year, as the COD series always does. Unfortunately, quantity does NOT denote quality. The COD series is now all hype, and no substance. I cannot honestly recommend the multiplayer at all. There is nothing there to warrant playing it longer than a weekend rental. The short Single Player campaign isn't nearly as much of a disappointment, but still didn't appeal to me as much as the previous COD single player campaigns did. While previous COD games have fallen a LOT in quality when it comes to multiplayer, the single player has always been great. This year it just seems to have levelled off and isn't nearly as good as previous ones have seemed to me. The Call of Duty franchise has become the "Madden" of FPS series, with yearly iterations that do not have enough new content, and are just "roster updates" (or map updates, in this case) with no worthwhile new substance. Perhaps it is time for the game producers to sit back and take a few years off to reflect on their product, and put a lot of time and thought into making it better, releasing it only after a few years of development, rather than rushing out sloppy remakes with terrible quality maps and gameplay, just to make a quick buck. Buyer Beware!!! Expand

The data is constantly uploading, even during the game, causing lag and ruining the game. They could have easily gone to a slightly longer intermission and uploaded everything at that time. The PS3 Warhawk, which came out in 2007, records tons of obscure statistics all game long and they are uploaded after the match, during intermission.

The maps are very bad. Too small, someone always behind you. Its no fun to do things right and get shot in the back anyway.

I was hoping for MW2 connection and hit detection, as that was Black Ops biggest problems. I was looking forward to a more balanced version of MW2 and what we got was a mix of MW2 and BLOPs. Heavy on the bad connection. So I am done with the COD franchise. You just lost a guy that purchased every Call of Duty game ever, every map / expansion pack ever. Modern Warfare 3 is pretty much the same game as MW2, and quite similar to MW1. I don't know why its so hard to simply produce high quality textures and graphic components and then downscale for the obsolete consoles, but it seems that this game takes the opposite approach: which is why a graphics card that you could buy for $50 four years ago (the Nvidia 8600) is still the required card. Despite what the "recommended" stats might suggest, there's no more eye candy for those with a better system- just higher framerates for those who see 60 frames per second and up. This wouldn't be such an issue if the gameplay or story was involving, but its not. Overall, a mediocre if competent clone.â Expand

Unfortunate to say MW3 is nowhere near as good as the previous games in terms of multiplayer, with the major drawback being the map design. With 16 maps included on the disc you'd think there would be atleast a dozen of good quality maps, instead you're met with 16 small, maze ridden maps that have no flow whatsoever. In my opinion there are about 3-5 bearable maps, the rest are so poor even the maps from Black Ops outshine. I seriously think when the **** hit the fan at IW all the map designers left because the 16 on offer are truly awful. Pretty much all buildings are locked out and everything is basically flat, there are no areas to cover your six and it's completely geared toward the Rambo COD gamers that run around like blue arsed flies shooting and running constantly. It is a severe disappointment,. I was expecting this game to not match the quality of the previous two games but even then I was still majorly let down. This is the worst COD MP I have ever played, and that includes COD2, COD4, W@W, MW2 & Black Ops. This is a completely truthful opinion from a big fan of the series, unfortunately it seems that it is now time to leave it for dead (or atleast go back to the awesome MW2). I asked my brother why he was trading in Battlefield 3 for Modern Warfare 3, and I told him it would just be more of MW2. He said that's what he wants...
And that's exactly what he got! I have played my fair share of CoD, and from the moment I saw the identical HUD on MW3, I sighed. This game is the exact same as its predecessor, and yet it will be the highest purchased game of the year.

Number one, the maps are extremely similar to previous Modern Warfare maps and they are terrible in design. Every single map is designed for one player style, the run and shoot style, and there is no depth to the maps. Sniper rifles might as well not even be in the game, no map accomodates the sniper rifle players need for concealment. The maps have absolutely no flow, and zero depth, there is no where to be, to protect yourself from being shot or knifed in the back. The maps have extremely long corridors of play area and I havent found a map yet that makes carrying a shotgun an advantage of any kind. I have the say, this game has the worst map selection I have ever seen in a multiplayer game. Number two, the weapons and perks. The weapons are basically the exact same from previous Modern Warfare games but 10 times worse. Every single weapon sounds almost the same, they all have almost the exact same recoil, and every weapon upgrade and attachment is a carbon copy from the last Modern Warfare. The most aggravating thing I've found during multiplayer is the lack of weapon power. If you choose the SCAR, you practically have to empty the entire clip into someone to kill them, you are equipped with enough rounds for maybe 2 or 3 kills max, and then you have to switch to your secondary weapon. I've completely given up on carrying shotguns as well, if you manage to get close enough to someone, which is almost impossible with the horrid maps, you practically have to shoot someone directly aimed to the face to kill them, body hits will not do the job. All of the killstreak perks are terrible as well. The care package booby trap is ridiculous, no one ever picks it up. The "Advanced UAV" is dumb, the strafing helicopters are impossible to shoot down, the OSPREY gunner is 100% the same as Chopper Gunner from MW2, I could go on and on. The most ridiculous thing I've seen is the "Specialist" Perks, upgrading to a new perk during killstreaks of 2-4-6. It doesnt make any sense whatsoever to utilize thing feature. The only reason I rated this game a 1, is because the Campaign isn't terrible, and the Spec-Ops and Survival Mode is kinda fun until you get bored killing computer generated players. This game is an enormous let-down, save your money and buy something else. Expand

I suggest everyone who has not purchased MWF3 to wait. Wait until the game is readily available used, at this point the price will not be too different, but ACTIVISION will not have sold us a NEW copy of the game, we will just circulate the current copies. This will drive down their sales, and prove they can't sell a 60 dollar map pak.... or can they?

In the prior two modern warfares, I have enjoyed folliwing captain price around on his missions and this one is no different. Some older characters have even been brought back. My enthusiasm at the exciting story almost overcomes the fact that it took me only 4 and a half hours to play through it. Spec ops is fun with a buddy, and survival is mildly entertaining. This however, is where my praise stops. Multiplayer is very similar to MW2, but actually got worse. Before someone says that I am just whining because I am bad at the game, let me be clear. My kill-death ratio is 2.83 and I have won almost every game I have played, I would consider that good. The maps are small and uninteresting, and almost all of them seem to be in a town or city. There are new weapons, but none of them really feel interesting. Even most of the new killstreaks are very similar to the old ones. Juggernaut is unique, but after about ten times it gets old. I understand that support streaks were added to help players who weren't the best fighters, but it had an unforseen effect. The sky is never clear, and other than in search and destroy, you will always be getting attack from the air by something. I am angered by the fact that the developers will make hundreds of millions of dollars on this game, it doesn't teach them anything. They didn't put enough effort into making it better than MW2 and were content to just make a similar game. The uninteresting maps mean that even by the time you reach level 50 the game won't have grown on you and it never will. Please don't waste your money on this game, make the developers want to give us a better game next time. I for one, will not buy another Call of Duty until an effort is made to make each game feel different than the last. Expand

With so many first person shooters being released, its a tough market. Rather than buy a game i played 3 years ago, I want something new. Just as the World War 2 FPS became old and repetitive, I feel the modern warfare FPS is as well. I;m all ready to go back to World War 2 to be honest. The game has improved on things but not enough to make me want to keep it. Just more credit towards Zelda.

Absolute dissapointment. Thats all I can say... Not only is it EXACTLY the same as MW2, I honestly think the changes they made in this game couldve been done with a patch to MW2. New player Animation, New Weapons and Point Streaks doesnt mean a new game. If you are reading this and hoping to get this game, my advice would be not to.

The multiplayer maps are so bad that the ruin the entire game. They are pretty much all identical, they are all small so that means no variety in gameplay people come out of no where. Out of mw1 waw mw2 blackops and mw3 this has by far the worst maps ive ever seen.

What a waste of money. You expect some sort of evolution in a series, Some of the same glitches in this game were in MW2, they just copy and pasted the game engine and spent a day tops making new maps. Save your $60 and buy MW2 in the bargain bin. Most dissapointing game in history should be the new ad slogan.

The new survival mode is ok but still does not match up to the zombie modes, and online while fun, makes me feel like I'm playing the old game. Not enough new equipment is available. The new online maps also lose there new feel pretty quick, and then i only have a few months to wait till i have to pay for more (which x box people get to play a month b4??????)

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
