I started playing for a few hours last night and have already reached the penultimate level. It doesn't feel right spending £40 on a game, £10 for every hour played...

I found the gameplay fun if repetitive, with some nice set pieces (forgetting about the insultingly cheap 'shock' scene that happens mid-game). From what I have heard the multiplayer has barely changed and frankly the single player game is decent enough but for the amount of time you'll spend playing it, it's just not worth it. I'm glad I can afford to blow that amount of cash on a single player game that expires after a matter of a few hours and a MP game that is the same as one I already own. Fun few hours mind, but should definitely have been DLC. Looking forward to Skyrim - same price and probably 50 times as long.

I'm going to be honest with my score.

a 3 deserves its right to be scored this low. For a company that makes MILLIONS of dollars on the COD series, you would think they could and SHOULD invest in dedicated servers to handle all the lagging issues in the game. What fun do people have, if all they do is lag. Or time out. Or can't find matches but end up in some brazilian ranked lobby? What is Activision doing? What will IW/SH do to get this fixed!? I want to play in my timezone damn it! Hit detection is awful. Shot guns are awful. Rubber bullets. Commando. Last stand! Nothing has changed. You guys deserve my 3 score until you fix these issues.

Why is this game **** on the ps3? Graphics are not as good as the 360. The developers never talk about ps3 and they didn't let us install to hard drive so textures stream 2-3 secs slower giving a blurry image. The most accurate way I can describe Modern Warfare 3 is "competent, but dull." The game tries very, very hard to be exciting, edgy, and shocking, but it fails on every level. The game tries very, very hard to be exciting, edgy, and shocking, but it fails on every level. While the set pieces are bombastic and loud, they carry no weight and have no emotional attachment to them, making them fall flat. What worsens this problem is that the game has absolutely no sense of pacing whatsoever. My playthrough took exactly 4 hours and 33 minutes and frankly the game would have greatly benefited from some slow moving filler to balance out the explosions. Good pacing requires valleys to go with the peaks, otherwise it all feels like one long, incredibly boring plain, which describes MW3 in a nutshell. There are no moments in the game that get ones blood pumping, no moments that evoke any particular emotion, and the script is bad on top of it. All of this is exasperated by the fact that the graphics and sound design are bad to the point of laughable. The gun models look barely better than some PS2 games, the explosions lack volume, the textures are muddy and low-res, the character models are just bad, no easy way to put it, and worst of all the sound design is compressed and unimpressive. I played on a 5.1 surround sound setup and while games like Killzone push the limits of graphical and audio fidelity and action in the genre, MW3 has felt content to go witht the absolute barest minimum of effort and it shows, and the game suffers because of it. The multiplayer offers no solace either. Simply put this is one of the shallowest, most vapid multiplayer games I have ever played. There is absolutely zero depth to the gameplay and no thought has been put into higher level play tactics, in fact, through its egregious killstreak system it actively discourages higher level techniques and play, and instead works to recreate the constant explosions of the single player game, and everything suffers because of it. Unavoidable deaths are a constant, both from getting hit by overhead killstreaks as soon as you spawn, and then from the laughably bad spawn system that often has players spawning in the middle of groups of enemies giving them free kills. Its broken to the point of worrisome. Did anybody actually play this tripe before release? All of this games depth has been put into the loadout system, which boils down to finding the most overpowered weapon and using that, negating any depth that could have arisen. Since there is no teamwork, no teammate reliance, and no interdependence the game is as shallow online as a teaspoon in death valley. The lack of distinct classes and good team modes really hurts the online's replayability and the hardcore gamer will find its lowering everything to the lowest common denominator nothing short of insulting. This is not a game for you if you like shooters. This is not a game for you if like new things. This is not a game for you if you like innovation. And this is certainly not a game for you if you like balance and good gameplay. This is also not the game for you if you're looking for good graphics, sound, and story. If you want any of those things I suggest getting a better game, like Killzone 3. I cannot recomment MW3 on any level, as if miserably fails on ALL OF THEM. However it gets +2 points on my review for at least working without glitches, bravo sledgehammer, your bugtesters are the most talented people on your staff. Expand

Like most fans, I was excited when the first spoilers were being released for the new game. "How will they top the brilliant Airport scenario from MW2?" "What will happen to Soap?" "What new destinations and guns will they introduce?" "Will they develop a new engine to meet the demands of the graphical and game play enhancements they will so obviously make?" The months rolled by and small tidbits were leaked to us fans, and although many of us were worried that, perhaps, the shift and changes made at Infinity Ward may affect the final product, we never gave up hope that it would be a good game. After all, anything would be better than the below average single player, poor in-game physics offering of Black Ops. That game, as well as this one, would only be compared to the best in the series: Modern Warfare 2. Surely, then, seeing as the last Call of Duty game made steps forward in the industry that the latest addition would do the same? No. The fact of the matter is this game is so bad it makes me want to play Black Ops, and I recall thinking to myself (as I unwrapped and gleamed with joy at the chance of playing MW3) "I'd rather take a cheese grater to my scrotum that have to play Black Ops again". This will be painful.

Mr Schofield, why are the graphics so poor compared to EAâ

On the ps3 it take 20 min to get into a game then when u get into one u get kicked out the get a server error then kicked out of the PSN or u get a ERROR OUT OF MEMORY 14 message.. and if u ask me there is no reason absolutely no reason that elite should be down... really u had 2 years to make this service and just going by how many ppl bought BLOPS how could u have servers that could not handle the amount of people that logged on DAY ONE!!! its really a surprise that millions of people bought MW3 to you beachhead.. what a bunch of morons!! i cant believe i blew 100$ on this crap maybe im the moron here!! Well Glen... here is the thing... there is a simple rule: if You rip someone of for 60$ You should at least get a smack on the face and not a pat on the back. I'm a CoD fan from the beginning. I own every installation - maybe besides CoD 3 - and I'm sorry to say that, but MW3 is truly the biggest rip off of the year. I don't really care for the campaign. I can't see no fun in a 5 hour bot shooting fiesta with a slapstick story, so I'm just going to stick to the MP.

I didn't really expect much from the MP. Maybe some changing environments, some new interesting toys. But no... Sledgehammer changed almost nothing. This is the same game as MW2! Like someone said before: it all feels like a really expensive DLC for MW2! I mean, come on... You didn't even make an effort to make the maps interesting (take a look at Launch from Black Ops and the rocket launch or Moon - IMO changing environments rock). The guns? Almost the same. Upgrade system? Basically the same. Game modes? The same. Oops... sorry... You have added one of the dumbest things I have played lately "Kill Confirmed". I know it's "new and fresh" but why the hell did you put it as part of Ground War? It only forces me to change the lobby every time this mode starts. And there is Elite... You know what? That is the part where You have been most innovative and what happens? You charge me another 50$ for an annual subscription. At this moment I'm restraining myself not to call you names. I believe as an owner of al Your games I should be let in for free, but that is just my opinion. I really thought that You care for your fans, but instead you charge them extra because You know they will want to be part of Elite.

To summarise... I'm no hater, but You have failed me Glen. You have played it safe. MW2 was good but playing it safe with MW3 makes it mediocre and charging 60$ for a DLC... well, that is just low... real low. Battlefield 3 may not be the game of the year, but at least it has moved a bit forward. So a smack on the face for You Sledgehammer for ripping me off and a kick to the butt for making me pay for Elite. I give a 3. It may not be the most honest score (I was thinking of giving You a 4 or 5) but You deserve it. That 60$ could have gone somewhere else.

The franchise has gotten away from emphasizing skill, to making the game easy for even the most casual gamer, and dressing it up with bells and whistles that will mostly appeal to maladjusted teenage virgins. All in all as a fan of the series for the most part, I'm very disappointed that once again the marketing hype far exceeds the quality of the product, and in the end it's just more of the same tired old game that I've been playing since MW2. To add insult to injury, the game lacks many of the good design points of Black Ops, and the menus are cluttered, server matching is terrible, and the voice and sound are appalling. Major fail, but no doubt the hype machine will ensure all sales records are broken and next time we can expect a further watered-down FPS experience too. I'm just one guy, but I'm done with MW3 and have picked up a copy of Battlefield 3 instead. After about 13 hours of play, I can honestly say it's superior in every way to MW3, for anyone that has a recent level of skill. A quick review on the goods... Or bads, rather.

It's a repackaged Modern Warfare 2, that does a great injustice to Modern Warfare 2. Imagine a delayed version of Modern Warfare 2 with some crappy or only half-way decent new maps. When I said delayed I mean that it takes longer to do everything in this game. Whether that's using a UAV killstreak, aiming, etc. The game isn't very smooth.

The game isn't very smooth. I, personally, enjoy Call of Duty for it's fast pace and seamless gameplay. This one seems blockier and slower than it's predecessors.

They tweaked bullet damage or health or something. It takes longer to get a kill during your standard bullet exchanged, but they've also thrown in a "Wow that's a lucky shot" factor that happens WAY WAY too often. Play for 30 minutes and you'll have experienced enough of it in your favor to go, "WTF?" and not in your favor to say, "Wow, really?"

Killstreaks might as well be free candy on a parade day, because everyone is getting them and they never stop. I'd love to have 5 seconds without someone on either team calling in another UAV or care package or blah blah blah.

Hardcore fanboys will say this is a great game, and that it's the best of the series. They're deluded.

It isn't really a horrible game. It's just a major disappointment. It doesn't live up to the hype. It doesn't even come close to living up to it. I guess I'll be considering myself a Battlefield player when I'm in the mood to get my FPS-on for the next year or so and I'll likely rent the next Call of Duty that comes out before making a purchase. You think they did this whole elite, pay 60 bucks, and get every expansion free for a year crap because they knew this game was going to be this bad?

The multiplayer is awful!! small maps with objects everywhere creating plenty of choke points, meaning if your an objective based player be prepared to die a lot, stackable killstreaks are a nightmare, players sitting in corners or the choke points trying to get the streaks up, matchmaking is the worst of any cod series, if you have just stared playing and you are a low level expect to go up against high level players, these high level players with have unlocked some of the better perks and most of the pro versions, meaning they have a major advantage, i'm an expierenced cod player so although this is annoying i can still put in good games, for new players expect to die alot!! If you like dying by sniper rifles shooting you 2 feet away, stabbing from 10 feet away and hip firing from range then try out the multiplayer, to get certain perks you have to level, which is very annoying because untill you reach that level its harder to play objective based games, black ops let players buy perks and equipment and any stage as long as they had cod points, now i have to level to get the perks i need to help me play the objective, the above reasons will make it hard for any new player to get into this game, there are plenty of other problems with the multiplayer but to many to list. This cod game has taken a step backwards from black ops, what with so many other good games out there, this game is not going to be on my playlist, i preordered the elite copy, but canceled it, which im glad i did, this game is worth renting and playing but not worth the price to buy it new. I can totally understand peoples comments, the hype, the price, and its all a big let down. This game gets a 3 just for spec ops... Expand

Run and gun, explosions everywhere, bullets constantly flying by all making for a very unbelievable over the top experience. Some may love this, I found it excruciatingly difficult to force myself to play it. The graphics here may have sufficed with the release of MW2, but here in 2011, they really do look terrible. Audio feels hollow and lacking when firing most weapons. Multiplayer is essentially the same as MW2. It is an arcade shooter. There are no real strategies beyond improving your reaction time, that will help you win a duel. Average time alive is approximately 10 seconds. Graphics even more poor here than in the campaign. Spec Ops is where I found the most enjoyment. The dual survival mode is fun with a friend and that which I spent the most time with. The missions are mostly non engaging and left me with no feeling of accomplishment upon their completion. In all honesty, this is not the best playing FPS of 2011. During my time with MW3, I only wanted it to be over, and back to playing other games. Like I said before, rent the game and see what you think. Expand

I wasn't expecting anything amazing for this game. Modern Warfare 2 had already shown that Infinity Ward did not give a crap about listening to the community. However, they never cease to amaze me with how bad this game was. The multiplayer isn't as broken as MW2, but that's like saying I'm not as bad as Osama Bin Laden. The campaign's story was horrible and was worse than MW2 (to be fair,I wasn't expecting anything amazing for this game. The multiplayer isn't as broken as MW2, but that's like saying I'm not as bad as Osama Bin Laden. The campaign's story was horrible and was worse than MW2 (to be fair, I actually liked MW2's story). Survival mode was a terrible attempt at getting IW its own "Zombies." The spec ops missions were OK but not as spectacular as MW2. Anyway, with the less significant parts of the game taken care of, let's move on to the biggest and worst part of it: the multiplayer.

The "core" fanbase of the COD series was begging and begging for Infinity Ward to change the multiplayer system and actually innovate like Treyarch did with Black Ops. Deep down, most of them new that they probably wouldn't listen and just make COD's multiplayer a very expensive map pack with a marginally different interface. However, what very few of them were expecting was for Infinity Ward to actually be backwards and get rid of the many features that Treyarch put in Black Ops. For those of you who don't know Black Ops actually changed the level up system and you could get most of the equipment and base perks in the game if you just get enough "COD Points" which was essentially just virtual money. This made it possible for people who were new to the game to not be lagging behind everyone in a terrible way without having to put more experienced players at a disadvantage (in mw2 there were death streaks). What was Infinity Ward's response? Did they improve the system? Nope! They just threw the entire system out and went back to the old system of having to clock in countless hours to get that one class loadout you want to play with. On a more specific note, the improved scoreboard system that Black Ops had (which showed how many objectives players did) was thrown out in favor of MW2's scoreboard system, presumably because they don't like people who want to win instead of just kill people. The only positive thing MW3's multiplayer had in comparison to Black Ops was that you didn't get disconnected as often and the kill streak system has been improved.

Conclusion: Do not buy this game at full price. If you can borrow the game (from a friend or something) or rent it or buy it used, then you might be able to have a few hours of fun with the campaign and spec-ops.

A sharp drop from the fun had in Black Ops and the awe of Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 is a disappointment. I have only played Multiplayer (spec ops awaits), losing all interest in the campaign for this series, and what you will find, on the PS3 at current (18/11/2011) is a mess of lag, poor map design and a game of chance.

What used to take some thought and skill is now left down to who ultimately has the best connection to the host, alternating between taking 3 bullets to kill someone and 6+ bullets, all under the same Perk/Pointstreak conditions. I have had many times using a shotgun at short or point-blank range and taking a player out in one-shot, then later hitting (ie hit markers are shown while I'm aiming at their chest) them 4 times and still ending up dead at the end of it. Watching killcam replays where hit markers appear as your enemy shoots into the empty space you just left, and succeeds at the kill, occur far to often. All this and I have 4 bright green bars of 'quality' connection.

The game feels unnecessarily sped-up compared to previous iterations, with terrible spawn points that often see you moving forward to be killed instantly, and occasionally, if you are lucky, spawned immediately behind an enemy player. Mostly though, you will spawn close to where you were just killed, meaning, if you're quick, you can seek revenge on the player almost immediately, if someone else hasn't gotten to them first. This choice of spawn points is frustrating and you will find yourself being pushed to always keep moving and to always be looking over your shoulder (to than be shot from where you were just heading). That is not to say it isn't a good thing to have, and hasn't been a part of previous games, but here it is consistent throughout. Rather than a rush of tension from accidentally putting yourself into a poor position, and feeling like a bad-ass for coming out alive, you are almost always in a vulnerable position. It dissipates your ability for strategy or team-play. as the position you just fought for will shortly mean nothing, the enemy spawning behind you ready to shoot you in the back. It all just makes the game feel like a constant **** You will constantly find yourself dying as 3 people race to be the first to put their bullets into you, all from 3 different directions.

The map designs feel overly complex, with a lot more 'stuff' than I recall in previous games; more hidey holes, more boxes to get in the way and too many rooms and entry points. It all feels forced and unnecessary, as if the developers sought to make the game more mature and strategic by throwing more obstacles into the maps. Of course, my impression of these maps is massively hindered by the spawning issues previously mentioned, and any strategy that may come from their design and intended use I havent seen, clouded by the green rage that comes from consistently feeling cheated by this game. Over time perhaps my opinion on this will change.

The Perks in the game, or at least what I will refer to in general as 'perks' (Gun Perks, Character Perks, Strike Packages and their rewards) feel overly complex and purposely game-lengthening. The Gun Perks require you to use a gun and level it up exclusively, rather than being attached to your overall level, meaning you are constantly starting from the beginning if you choose to try a new weapon, having to work through sequentially to get what you want. Finally you unlock that gun you've constantly been killed by and wanna try it? well your gonna have to give up that sight and better stability until you use it enough. Some may find it addictive trying to find a weapon load out that just sits in the sweet spot of how you play (and won't be outgunned by a pp90), I used to in previous iterations, but that will only truely be an option once you've unlocked every single attachment and perk available, a feat only possible when you reach level 80 and have spent solid time with every gun available. It makes the whole thing feel like I'm having to work to enjoy the game, mine gold for hours so I can finally slay the dragon! unfortunately there isn't a dragon in the game, just a hope of finding a golden nugget of fun that's been hiding from me. As I shake my Magic 8-ball, it's sources tell me no.

The game feels like a half-arsed experience, like an actor portraying a character from that book you love, poorly, taking it in their own direction without actually being immersed in the fiction, just the cheque at the end of the rainbow. Reports of re-used models and what appears to be a lack of testing in regards to the design of maps, the upgrade system and the ridiculous lag I have encountered within 'good' connections all tell me that the developers didn't care, or at least, they didn't have the time. It's cheaper than the pokies, but you will probably shorten your life-span by just as much.

You can even tell the die hards are getting fed up with it as I don't see a lot of people prestiging. They're just ranking up and staying there.

The menu system has been made more complicated and setting up a new class now takes an age. Some of the things aren't where you would expect them. Want to alter your killstreaks? You have to go into Create a Class then actually go into a class and change it there.

And the bugs. At many points I am getting less than 1 FPS. Yes, you read that right - less than one frame per second. If you are host, its as bad as it was on MW2. Also Ground War just feels laggy and slow to respond - I cannot believe that just adding another 2 players to a game mode brings the system to a crawl but this has been the case since COD4. Its definitely a PS3 memory limitation issue as the 360 doesn't suffer from it. Seriously though, in regards to the framerate issues, this is completely unacceptable with a game engine thats years old now and on a platform where the hardware is fixed. I could understand this happening on a PC where you have infinitesimal hardware combinations but on a console?

Didn't take the cheaters long to figure out glitches and killstreak cheats but these do seem to be addressed quicker and there is now the ability in the pre-game lobby to select a player and report them.

However nothing gets away from the fact that if this was HalfLife 2 it'd be a mod or the fact that it could have just been released as a map pack for MW2. Maybe it should have been, even at the price it is - the same as was done for BF:Bad Company 2 with the Vietnam pack, talking of which I finally got into the Battelfield series last week with BF3 and I have to say that it just shows the shortfalls of MW3 in spectacular style.

I felt the game lacked any in new innovations to the FPS genre.....a rehashed overhyped game. The continuation of the single player does have some continuity from previous versions but not enough to be rated as high as the so called game industry reviews...."get a set" and call it like it is....

I think the people that are really good and run around with similar Clans will do well and those average players without Clans will suffer. It's a realy shame as this might be the last time I'll purchase the CoD tile from Activision. It's funny, because at time I wish i could go back and play World at War and I loved Black Ops. I've never played MW2, so I'm not biased by any previous experience with the series. Plus, although I'm an old schooll gamer, born in the Atari years, I'm quite new to online PVP and everything feels quite fresh to me, so I can't state wether MW3 is "more of the same" or not. Plus, although I'm an old schooll gamer, born in the Atari years, I'm quite new to online PVP and everything feels quite fresh to me, so I can't state wether MW3 is "more of the same" or not. What I CAN say is: this game just seems really poorly conceived, and I feel that the people behind its wheels didn't make such an effort to trimm and polish as they should (maybe because they knew it was gonna sell anyway, and that only proves the value of good marketing). The story mode is lame and has absolutely no plot to sustain it for a long time (ok, plots are not the forte of this kind of game, but even a simple, linear one would do), and the PVP is equally bad. The pairing of levels, for instance, is non-existent. I don't mind dying a lot (in fact, I find it quite laughable), but playing against 80 LVL players while being just 6 or 7 is just unfair. Dark Souls, for example (which is not a PVP game but has its share of it), only puts players of similar levels against one another, making winning a match much more gratifying because you're winning on your skill and not on the lack of others'. Plus, the gaming itself doesn't seem to be fluid enough or to offer such a variety of experiences to add to the fun. Resistance III, at least, has its miriad of weaponry with different effects and, although the end is the same (killing and dying), the means by which you get to it are a little more colorfull and amusing. In fact, playing MW3 is mostly a question of "respawn-run-die-respawn again" (with the eventual interlapse of killing someone yourself), and after you die THE SAME WAY the first ten times, you've seen pretty much everything there is to bee seen. This, added to the fact that the players in general don't seem to be mildly interested in cooperating with the others (even when playing on the same side) and keep cursing all the time (and some of the cursing, besides being rude and unnecessary, have a tone of prejudice that is really appalling and should be noted by whoever is controlling the whole thing), really makes this game not worth the money I spent with it. In the end, it may be that MW3 is just not my kind of game, but judging from the content of other comments I've read, this may not be the only problem with it. A final comment: I'm really disgusted by the nerve of the specialized critics that are bashing Metacritic users, right now. As far as I now, people here are REAL players, spend their money maintaining the games industry on the top, are entitled to their opinions and deserve a place to express themselves. If game companies define their projects solely on specialized opinions, and not on the average "Joe" that plays day in, day out, I fear for the creative future of this industry. Just saying. Expand

MW1 was a classic. MW2 was unnecessary. MW3 is a f*cking joke, and an embarrassment to Infinity Ward. The single player is quick, and boring with little to no upgrades from MW2. It's not as bad as Black Ops but definitely not as good looking as MW2. The missions are VERY samey throughout: just shoot people, move foward and occasionally hold the reload button for a scripted event to happen. Or just follow NPCs in "stealth" missions that are just inferior versions of All Ghillied Up. The soundtrack is just plain dull. There are some cool sound effects during certain moments in the campaign but everything thing else sounds, again, dull, and unrealistic. The story is full of plot-holes AND less exciting than MW2, if that was even possible. The multiplayer fixes the issue of infinite grenade-launchers by making them borderline useless but yet has new annoying issues like Dead Man's Hand (if the Javeline glitch was a Deathstreak), unbalanced perks like Assassin and unbalanced weapons (everyone uses either the ACR or MP7 with Blindeye, Assassin and Stalker). There is a serious lack of variety of weapons in the campaign.

Is there anything good about this game? Well, there IS a fair amount of content even if it does feel like a rehash of everything that's come before. The Spec Ops missions are fun, the DLC is pretty decent (but that shouldn't count). There are a couple of interesting locations, and some cool gadgets like the Hybrid Sight and Trophy System.

The reason why people don't like battle field is because that game actually takes skill to play, my 5 year old cousin plays C0D and wins. Call of Duty sucks, I do not care what anyon says. I jumped on the bandwagon out of curiosity, and what i found was an addicting, edge of your seat multiplayer (at least until the marathon/lightweight/commando/tac-knife combos were being discovered) that had a Michael Bay movie attached to it. (I will not speak of the campaign any further than that.)

Then we got Black Ops, which sucked. Let us not speak of it again.

Now we have this thing. I knew this game was going to be copy/pasted to the extreme, but i was thinking "hey, maybe it'll be GOOD copy-pasta."

I was wrong. When people say "this is the EXACT same thing as MW2," they really aren't joking. The game runs on an engine that is 3 years old with no improvements. It uses the same sound effects, the same models for the weapons, the same friggin font, renamed perks, and the same attachments. This game was LAZILY made. The survival mode feels tacked on and rushed, Zombies has more production value than IW's offering. (and is more fun to boot) The maps are utterly claustrophobic that fit the standard settings of a CoD map (ruined city, dirty place, grey place, brown place, GREYISH BROWN PLACE OF DIRT AND RUBBLE), there is little to no originality in the game, period. The campaign (which throws another big death scene (well, 3) just for the sake of being OSSIM) is utterly uninspired, and feels like a Transformers sequel without the big robots than a true sequel to the superb campaign that COD4 had.

I give it 2 points; NOT because its not better than Battlefield 3, but because its nothing but a cash-in designed to rape your wallets. When a game's executable file says MW2.exe, you know you're doing something wrong.

The worst part about these games are the maps. In 1 week I know that I'll have every single corner memorized and the game will be a major repetition festival. Not at all interested in forking out more money for DLC maps that should have already been included. ALSO BIG NEGATIVE - There are more maps than you'll ever see included with this game, for some reason the devs don't run every map in every game mode so you more than likely will never play more than 4-5 maps unless you play every single game mode for hours a day. Overall, dedicated servers are a necessity if I'm every going to buy another CoD game, and I won't buy another one on this generation of consoles because they obviously aren't going to try, or can't improve the graphics over MW2. Last point, I bought the DLC for Black Ops and it was pointless. Over 2 months I never once got to play any of the DLC maps because the people I was playing with (random) obviously didn't buy it and there is no way to choose which map to play in. Yeah, I'm completely done with this series without dedicated servers or a guaranteed way to play ALL the maps. I know Infinity Ward broke apart and there is some kind of fan boy war over this game and BF3 (I do not have or play BF3 because I heard it sucks) but I don't care about any of that. I just want the ability to play ALL the maps in the game without having to play 8 hours a day 5 days a week in order to get lucky enough to get the rare maps that never get played. And, I want an improved graphical experience for each new game. Neither of those conditions have been met with MW3. So, basically the commercials with Jonah Hill were cool but, yeah MW3 is so much just MW2 with new killstreaks and maps. If that makes it for you then buy it. If not then please play Dark Souls, the more the merrier.

It gets a 2 because I expected much more having played MW2 and Black Ops. If you've never played a CoD before then it'll be great for you. I imagine the negatives are from people who've played this game before.

I really do wish I could give you a good review IW, but I can't. I have played through this game, the campaign is same old same old, the graphics are almost identical to MW2 and compared to Battlefield 3 on consoles its really quite embarrassing. Kill confirmed is mildly fun, but the fact is this is just a map pack for MW2.

In addition, COD: Black Ops provided the option to practice against AI bots in offline multiplayer, COD: MW3 does not allow this. Given the trouble that COD: MW3 is having with multiplayer matchmaking this is something that needs to be added. This is a major oversight that should have been caught by the developer as it allows players to still use the full content of the game even if the online matchmaking is not functional as it is at the moment. I now realize that I will not support another call of duty game until they change the formula, or go back to their old roots. MW3 proves that Infinity Ward is a very untalented developer. Graphics wise, you wont notice the difference from MW2. Singleplay is average. It has the same cliched moments over and over again, the A.I is just as bloody stupid as ever, with team mates made to look like they are shooting at the enemy, but are actually shoting at nothing, leaving you pretty much by yourself having to do everything yourself. The Map designs are generic, its all been seen before. The Sound effects are good, but can get very, very annoying. Guns don't sound realistic, I would know I'm in the army. Its like a Michael Bay movie, explosives everywhere and alot of action, but my god is the story different no.

Multiplayer is the worst part about the game. It feels like a Map pack to MW2, the maps have the same basic design, You will constantly respawn in front of enemies, You can still shoot through thick steel or brick walls but can't shoot through paper thin materials or thin wood. The Perks are pretty much all the same. Killstreak system is different a bit, but my god, you don't feel rewarded in any way cause the killstreaks are handed out like your at some charity event. The Guns are very unbalanced, with some guns having very little fire power then others. The Attachments are very much the same. Its full of cheaters.

There was no effort put into this game, recyled material, untalented developer team who just physically can't think of anything new to do to the series.

All I can say is, if anyone actually still buys MW3 after reading all the negetive reviews, then they are a very boring bunch of people who want to play the same thing over and over again. There are way better games out there to play then this cheap peice of crap. I couldn't find many positives about this game, the voice acting was good and the multiplayer had some fun moments at the start, but I really couldn't believe how fast this game got boring. Feels like the multiplayer is more about getting killstreaks for yourself, the game does not encourage team work at all. Haven't played the BF3 singleplayer yet, but the Multiplayer is 100 times better then MW3 and way better then any other multiplayer i've ever player, get BF3 or just start player MW1 or 2 again, atleast you can get more fun out of those games. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

However its more of the same and maybe a bit worse. My major dissapointment is the maps. There are a ton of them, and theyre all tight, cramped, and feel like a big maze. Theres a couple of decent maps, but for the most part they just dont play the old greats. Spawning is a major issue, as you'll often spawn right next to an enemy and get killed within seconds. Everyone is either running around like headless chickens or camping. Matchmaking is slow, and it can take up to 5 munites to get a game when youre playing with a group of friends. If you've never played Call of Duty before, then you might be suitably impressed with the game. For anyone who has played an FPS in the last 6 years, this game bring absolutely nothing to the table. First, let's address the steaming turd that is the campaign mode -- If this game was released by another company under a different name, these "professional" reviews would be singing a radically different tune. Each task in the campaign revolves around moving your character to a point on the map that triggers the endlessly respawning monster closet to shut off. There is zero strategy involved and freelancing is actively discouraged via small game areas and having to press a button at certain map point in order to continue. I don't mind my campaigns being a bit on the rails, as wandering aimlessly wondering what I'm supposed to be doing isn't any fun, but this game is so tightly held on the rails as to be no fun at all, unless you are a fan fan of running headlong into enemy fire with no thought at all, in which case, you'll probably love this game. Multiplayer, the supposed stregnth of this game, adds little to the tried and true formula that has worked so well in the past. While one might expect that from a mappack or DLC, charging full-price for a glorified map-pack doesn't sit right with me. Couple that with charging players for doing what all other games do for free (Call of Duty Elite), and you have what amounts to a giant cash grab.

Since the last edition of Modern Warfare had rampant lag/cheating issues that went unchecked, I hold out little hope that this year's version will fare much better. If Infinity Ward et. al. actually offer some support to the multiplayer community who don't pay $60 a year over and above the cost of the game, I might be inclined to bring the score up to a 4 (4 out of 5 for mulitplayer and 0 out of 5 for singleplayer).

Bottom line, experienced games should avoid this game like the plague. By purchasing this game, you are tacitily endorsing crappy game design and encouraging companies to keep putting out bad products.

Remember that? All of the Black ops maps were fun and I had a real blast on each one. MW3 maps are boring and small and rely on twitch reactions to get kills. Much of my deaths on this game are from campers or unbelievable lag within the game, where I clearly shoot the enemy first but on their killcam they clearly shoot me first. I have played well at times but I can't feel a sense of achievement because the only reason I did well was because the opposing team were experiencing lag too. Where is the fun in that? There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
