Utter garbage. This is not Fallout, it barely would qualify as a mobile phone game. It's nothing more than a life support system for a microtransaction storefront. You may as well be flushing away money.

Bethesda's made unplayable game and ruined fallout franchise

It's the empty game, you have nothing to do here. of course you can try to kill some other players with your friends, but that's all you can do, After few days of playing i closed the game and i'll never launch it again

I've played every Fallout game except for Fallout 2 (its on my pile of shame but i haven't had the time yet) and i would say that it is one of my favorite gaming franchises. That's why i'm sad to say that Fallout 76 is not a good game.

The Graphics are just a tiny little bit better than Fallout 4, so someone, who doesn't know the difference, could mistake it for Fallout 4.

The Performance is mediocre at best. More than a few times i had freezes that lasted 1-2 seconds, which weren't game breaking but still very annoying and i think the problem is on Bethesda´s side, because the friend i was playing with, has a better pc than me and he also got those freezes. And even without them it always felt "rough" and "choppy", if that makes sense. One "good" Thing is, apart from the first loading screen, when you join a server (which takes ages) the loading times where ok.

The gameplay is pretty much the same as in Fallout 4. V.A.T.S. has changed, because you can't freeze or slow down time in an online game. Now its just "press a button when the percentage is high enough". You can still target different body parts, but because the time doesn't slow down, you have hardly any time to choose properly and so i just shot normally, which is also not precise. So many times I had an enemy in my crosshair and the shot would miss.

The building aspect isn't thought out well. The controls feel a bit better in comparison to Fallout 4, but the whole system is buggy as hell. You now have a camp, that you can pull out of your pocket via pip-boy and theoretically you can place it everywhere except for existing locations. The problem is, that if you log out and come back the next day or so, your camp could be gone. Because when you log on to a server and someone else put his camp on or around the location of your camp, your camp is gone. Everything you built should be stored, but that doesn't work. My builds ended up in pieces in the "stored"-tab instead of one House and that happened even after Bethesda fixed it allegedly. Some stuff even disappeared completely and even if, by some miracle, my build was stored as one, i couldn't built it on the same spot, because the placing of stuff is still as sensitive and restricted as in Fallout 4, if not even worse.

And the biggest problem for me is the story. Or more precisely, the lack of it. You still get quests, of course, but now you get them from robots with no personality other than being a robot or , sometimes, when you're just near the area of a quest. Most of the quests are simple "go there and do that"-tasks without a big story behind them. The environmental storytelling is still there, but i feel like even that is not as good as in other Fallout games. Now you find a lot (and i mean a LOT) of notes and audio logs, that tell the story. But while you listen to one audio log you find 3 more and when you pick up audio logs from dead bodies or out of containers, the current tape you listening to, stops automatically for the new tape to play. And there is no way to play an audio log from where you left off. you have to listen from the beginning. With Tapes, that can last a few minutes, this is so annoying. And because this is an online game, you cant pause to focus on a tape. So while you listen to it, you have to keep fighting enemies and talk with other players. Maybe someone with perfect multitasking can do it, but im not that one.

And of course there are the typical bugs and problems, that come with a Bethesda game. I myself was lucky enough to not get a game breaking bug. But the good old ones like physics freaking out, enemies in T-position, audio cut-offs when a "npc" is talking, there still here plus some new ones that are online-only. For one Quest i needed to kill an enemy, but the problem was, that other players had already killed this enemy and it didn't respawn! So i had to switch servers several times (which meant i had to wait every time through the long loading screen) just to find him dead again and again until i found a server, where i was the first to get to the enemy. This is not acceptable for an online game!

Fallout 76 is just a copy-paste job to make some more money from the Fallout Franchise. Its not thought through well and it just feels like Fallout 4: Online. With Fallout 4 i said "Its a good game, but not a good Fallout game" With Fallout 76 i can't even say this. Maybe, if Bethesda keeps patching and improving it, the game could become OK and playable. But for now i'm gonna treat it like a certain Indiana Jones movie about some aliens, that never existed and fill my fallout needs with Fallout 2!

What a disappointment. The world looks great but the content is just so bleak. To me this seems like a cash grab and it is pretty awful. For a fallout game, if you can vall it that, its pretty awful. I hope bethesda work hard on their future singleplayer games as Im a little bit worried about them considering that their lack of quality has diminished recently.

The Game is absolutely disappointing. All users should get refunded 90% of the purchase price, because except for a large empty world with occasional mobs the player gets nothing. Too much promised and almost nothing delivered.
    Never pre-order a Bethesda game, that's what i've learned.

Bethesda selling this game for 60$ like its a AAA game only comes across as a cash grab to me. I didn't like the way the did the chat wheel in Fallout 4, I must say they did get rid of it and replaced it with nothing at all, then continued that idea till they had fallout 76 "completed". this would have been a fine DLC for Fallout 4, not a stand-alone that looks like a copy past of 4.

But being a long standing Fallout fan I bought the game anyway. First impressions wow the graphics are beautiful and the map is the biggest I have ever seen in a game! I am really enjoying this game but I must stress it is a game enjoyed best with friends or family. If you expect this game to be like Fallout 4 forget it. This is a very different game. Beautiful graphics, fantastic atmosphere, exploration and death around every corner, building and sharing a camp with your friends that has to be defended! A lot of negative reviews are from people who go into this game thinking it is Fallout 5. It is the Fallout universe, but online. All of your typical badass enemies are there from the previous games, super mutants, deathclaws, etc. But there are literally hundreds more different enemies on this game from dangerous wildlife to the strange like Mothman. Also as it is online Bethesda are planning to continue to support the game with updates and extra DLC that is totally free. So it can only get better. But you either love it or hate it. If you like atmosphere, shooting bad guys, survival all alongside your friends in a game, then this is a game for you! .. and yes I am actually enjoying it more than Fallout 4 because I can now play Fallout with my friends instead of being on my own surrounded by artificial characters! If you are not afraid of change I say buy this game and give it a try! Expand

Bethesda have taken a different approach to Fallout with the latest installment release. Instead of guiding you on the path to rebuilding the world after nuclear armageddon they have given every player the freedom to explore the world at his/her own pace. I truly believe Fallout 76 is a magnificent concept, being able to interact with others while exploring the glowing mysteries of Appalachia. NPCs from previous Fallout games were really well done and helped with immersion to a certain extent but having such a big map populated just with AI is dull for a 2018 game, especially Fallout. With Fallout 76, the story is scattered around the map for players to piece together, just like a puzzle. I think this sort of challenge is great but it certainly isn't as appealing to everyone that played previous Fallout games, especially Fallout 4. I believe that one of the most important aspects of this game is that the current concept caters mostly to hardcore fans due to the amount of planning, strategy and patience one must have in order to succeed.
The online world of Fallout has a huge amount of potential for diversification, which I am really looking forward to.
The Fallout 76 in game community is amazing and I can genuinely say that I've never seen before people that are so helpful even though they don't have anything to gain. Sure, there are a few griefers but that is to be expected from an online game with such a big fan base.
In terms of gameplay I must say that the graphics have definitely improved since Fallout 4 but there are quite a few glitches and bugs which I hope will be fixed in the future. Sometimes there are also performance issues such as freezes and crashes but they don't happen as often as they did during B.E.T.A.
Overall I can say that I love the new approach Bethesda has taken with Fallout and even though it might take a little while for everything to be the way the devs want to, I'm sure the journey ahead is going to be epic. Kudos Bethesda!

I played all the fallout's since 3 and while the story's are great I usually suffer from TLDR.
This has most of the things I loved about the game still. Mostly looting and crafting and the combat is still fun.

A game with promise. Unfortunately the lack of notable in-depth story or fleshed out npcs make the world feel lifeless. The game has far too many bugs for a final game release, and the servers are unstable. It feels as though this game was rushed to market.

This game is not Fallout 5, its Fallout with Friends, people bought this expecting Fallout 5 and were disappointed when it turns out to be more of a Fallout sandbox to play with friends and had no single player campaign or that it doesn't allow them to gank people with lopsided PvP mechanics

It's fun exploring at first, but then things start to feel repetitive and without major faction NPC storylines distracting you, the repetativeness starts to stand out more than previous games. Other players in the game are meaningless as pvp is not enabled (they have to shoot you first before you can hurt them). Base building is bugged and you can lose hours of progress. Inventory is wayyyy too small, meaning after just a few pickups you have to go back to base to scrap. Plus your base storage chest can only take 400 weight. That's nothing!
You have to constantly switch perks if you want to min/max. That's pretty annoying too.
There is also not type to talk. the mic is always on, so good luck if you have a girlfriend or someone else talking in the background. They need to introduce press to talk.

I loved all the Fallout games and fallout DLC. This is the first game where I stopped playing after just 10 hours.

I advise people buy this in 6 months to 1 year, or wait for it to go on sale. By then the main bugs should be fixed. I honestly played more than just 10 hours when No Mans Sky got released.

    - First of all, most locations are not interesting. They are bland, empty and lifeless. Only some transmit a compelling story that keeps the player somewhat interested.
    - The main story is the definition of mediocre. After a long time of play, I have only completed around 5 main quests.
    - Another terrible aspect of the game is the way the story is conveyed. Relying on holotapes and notes devoids the story of any soul. For me the abscence of human NPCs is not the main problem. They could have told the story in a myriad of other creative ways.
    - Long gone are the radio hosts that accompanied you on your lonely voyages.
    - For a game so focused on looting and crafting, you are offered a stash size of 400. This means you will be selling, scrapping and bulking all of your valuable stuff all the time. It truly feels like a chore. I have absolutely no idea how they thought 400 was good stash weight for most players. (This will change in the future but still unacceptable).
    - I have seen very few players in some sessions and quite a few in others. In both however, the interactions are extremely dull.

This game is riddled with frustrations. Despite it's endless faults, it can be enjoyed if you enjoy survival games. (Looting, crafting and exploring). If you are expecting a Fallout game, steer away.

To conclude, Fallout 76 is at most average. The bad response it is getting has everything to do with how Bethesda marketed and communicated the product. They should have released it as a beta for a year or so and charged 30$ for it then when ready charge 60$ for it. Too bad

I've always had a soft spot for the Fallout universe and the particular humor in the stories contained within. Even when Bethesda took the reigns I personally think they have been a responsible custodian to the franchise. Then came Fallout 76. It really feels hollow and lonely. The lack of NPC's is a really poor choice. It feels like the world is dead and its hard getting the motivation to explore somewhere because you know that its just going to be more of the same. You'll find a holotape or talk to a monotone robot drivel on about something you could care less about. There really is no human connection or interesting characters to care about. "Story" aside. The bugs. Oh my god the bugs. I've been beat down by invincible enemies, invisible enemies, teleporting enemies, and magically respawning enemies. Even when I finally make it through a zone somehow to progress on a questline I'll magically be disconnected. Then when I log back in my quest progress is nullified and now I'm on a different server with all the mobs respawned. I have items missing from my camp, junk magically disappearing, item carry weight bugs, perk cards missing, and worse frame rate with every update. This is definitely the last Bethesda game I preorder. The Bethesda bugs are no longer funny to me. Someone else can be the Beta guinea pig. I was inspired to log in and write this because of a quest that consisted of defending 4 areas at the same time, each 20-30 yards apart and on three different floors. I understand this was developed for multiple people to play, but at least put in a group finder so I'm not forced to do everything with a squad of 4 people.

What a disappointment this game is. I love the Fallout series and bleak world and lore Bethesda has create. Sadly with Fallout 76 they swerved way outside their lane and right over a cliff. The biggest hole for me is all the missing NPCs. That is what story telling in this type of game is all about. I only see players and they are either doing their own thing or trying to grief the other players around them. This is a what makes it simply a hollow shell without anything to pull you along in the game.

Add to that limited settings to improve video performance, no mouse settings to speak of, very few other setting, some ridiculous new Bethesda launcher.... I'm over it. After about 6 hours of game play I'm done. I'm already tired of playing this game. If you were looking for the next beautifully crafted Fallout game, this isn't it. Pass on buying this game and start hoping Fallout 5 returns to the series roots.

I can't believe I'm saying this but this Fallout game sucks and it doesn't deserve to be part of the franchise and as far as I am concerned it never will be. I wish I could drop a nuke on 76 and wipe it out of existence completely. I would happy to have a Fallout multiplayer experience just not this one.

Besides that the game is simply not fun when comparing to any other BGS title. Sure it may be a totally new direction and comparisons shouldn't be made, but that's a bad excuse for a boring game loop. Extremely excited for Starfield though! 1/10 better luck next time weenies.

    100 hours of play time.

Let's get a good look at what the game has to offer. Let's proceed point by point. Let me explain to you how FO76 is indeed a true Fallout game, and why.

    1) World design :

The map, set in the Appalachian region, is gigantic. You could press autowalk at one end and not reach the other for hours, not only because it is this big, but also, there's so much to see on the way. So many places, each with their very own feeling. Eerie swamps, barren abandonned mining operations, vibrant forests, steep mountains, derelict factories.. All so well put together. You barely notice the transition from one to another because it happens gradually. There is a real sense of immersion, as you seemlessly travel an incredibly coherent and diverse landscape. I caught myself just enjoying the scenery more than once.
    Just regular Fallout.

    2) Storytelling

Oh boy. For a game with so few NPCs, the storytelling is incredible. The voice acting is more than on-point; every holotape you listen to introduces a new character that manages, in a few minutes and only by voice, to get across his own personality, to reach out to you, the wanderer, and tell you his unique story. The actors did an amazing job. But there's more.
Computers often hold stories too, in the form of reports, journals and other entries. Everywhere you go, you may just happen on a unique story that adds it's stone to the greater picture. It's never thrown in your face. It's not hidden either. It is simply there to enjoy if you so wish. And believe me there is much to enjoy.
Just regular Fallout, maybe even better (because way more subtle).

    3) Sound Design :

Just as each type of terrain has it's own visual feel, the audio is of great diversity. When you're standing on a cliff in the mountains, you truly feel like you're there. Wind gushing, dirt crumbling, maybe even gunshots or wildlife fighting in the distance. High quality and well placed effects manage to make the world come alive. From light hearted and cheerful to downright creepy and dark, every ambiance is covered and given to you at the exact right time. If you stop and listen for a while, anywhere in the world, there are going to be things to hear.
    Just regular Fallout.

    4) Gameplay :

i'm tempted to say "It just plays like regular Fallout" and I wouldn't be lying, but allow me to elaborate on that. The gunplay is nothing more nor less that what the previous titles have got us used to. It's not bad, but it certainly could be a tad better. There is some lack of balance between weapons; Automatic weapons suffer too weak damage and melee is simply overpowered. The UI has seem some quality upgrades in this installment, but it still could offer more sorting options. You never get lost in your inventory, but you may have to scroll a lot if you're a hoarder. Hit detection on very fast targets is not really on point, storage space is too limited (they're working on it) and you're not safe from encountering a monster that'll end up stuck sideways in a wall. More hilarious than annoying, but still. Some tough monster are not rewarding enough to beat, some weaker ones are too rewarding. The game still is surprisingly stable, although you may experience the odd disconnect every few hours. Some perks need to be fixed, others balanced.
Weapons and clothing/armor show some promising variety. Add to that the ability to to mod them heavily and hid armor under purely cosmetic clothing, and you'll no doubt find the look you want. Hitboxes are.. Well they're Bethesda's hitboxes. Need I say more ?
    Just regular Fallout.

    5) Community :
That's something entirely new to the Fallout series. Let one thing be said; FO76 players love their game. The haters rooted themselves out, most without ever giving a chance to the game, and we're left with an unnusually friendly community. They're here because they love the game, because they love the potential. They're happy to play, happy to help, share tips, build bases and go on quests together. And last but not least, they are welcoming. They want to share their experience and that makes it surprisingly easy to make friends out of people randomly met in game. Just check the FO76 subreddit. The community is half of what makes this game great. And even when you're alone, it just plays like regular Fallout.

I perfectly understand not wanting to spend sixty bucks on a game that has so many bad reviews. But if you weed out Youtubers out for easy views, mindless bashers allergic to change, and the insane amount of reviews made before the game came out, you're left with a gem of potential. There are problems, but they're so easily overlooked because the game offers so much.
Thats what this game is. Potential.

The game has had a very poor and buggy launch which has undoubtedly negatively affected the reception of the game. Unfortunately, a lot of the comments from people online are from people who don't even own the game.

There are a couple of controversial design choices (such as no human NPCs) that have got people riled up before even trying the game out properly. The rest of the bad reviews are legitimate and due to technical errors and bugs that may make the game unplayable.

Regardless, I have avoided all of the media hype and trailers/reviews surrounding the game and decided to purchase it after looking at the synopsis a week after release. I thought it sounded intriguing and decided to try it out.

I personally have played the game for a few hours and I really enjoy it. There is a huge open world to explore and discover, the atmosphere of FO76 is fantastic for someone like me. I usually mod my previous FO titles (3,NV,4 etc) to be difficult and scary survival horror games i a Fallout universe.

FO 76 delivers the atmosphere; the loneliness, desolation and hostility of a post-nuclear hell-hole!
You need to make sure you have food, water and shelter and you genuinely feel like a Mad-Max, The Road or even Walking Dead character scavenging the ruins of the old world to try and survive.
When you finally meet up with another human player and end up working together and bonding through difficult challenges, the experience is just magical and unparalleled! If you aren't capable of experiencing a world yourself and need to be hand-held then you may not appreciate the design of the game in the way it is designed to be explored. Additionally, there is a big chance that you will suffer from awful game-breaking bugs that will totally destroy your ability to have fun with 76...

Fallout 76 is a great game. It has its problems but the game is still fun and engaging. There are no human NPCs and there are other players running around

Fallout 76 is a great game. It has its problems but the game is still fun and engaging. There are no human NPCs and there are other players running around
but that doesn't seem to influence the game as much as you think. Fallout 76 may not be the absolute best in the series, could be one of the worst in the series (of the Fallout games Bethesda made. I'm pretty sure we can all agree that this game is better than Brotherhood of Steel). However just because it's
the worst of the series doesn't mean it's bad. It's still a really fun game that I'm glad I'm able to play. It's just not as good as Fallout 3 or Fallout 4.

One big thing I see people complain about is the lack of NPCs. For me, I've barely noticed the absence of them. There is still a great story to this game
(maybe better than Fallout 4's). The story even explains the lack of NPC (won't say what it is to avoid spoilers). To get the story you have to read notes
and listen to audio clips, which isn't much different than just getting the information from NPCs. It's still just go here, listen to this, do this. It's been
like that for every Fallout game. My favorite thing to do in fallout games wasn't talking to NPCs and getting the main story, but going to new locations and
reading notes or terminals to get the story of the world rather than just the immediate quest line.

Another big issue a lot of people negatively reacted to is the other players. A lot of people are worried about other players killing them over and over or
just being an overall announce. However, all of the players I've ran into playing this game have mostly just ignored each other or trade. There was one time
a player killed me over and over, but it was my fault for trying to get revenge so many times on a player double my level. After the first time, they killed
me the rest was just self-defense. A player can only do little bits of damage to you unless you attack back. After attacking back a PVP battle is then fully started. The winner of the battle then will get caps depending on the opponents level. If I player is able to kill you and you did not fire back, then they will be considered wanted and will have a bounty placed on them where everyone on the server can see.

People are also complaining about lag and glitches. While the game full of bugs and lag is never a good thing, Bethesda is trying to fix this. The game won't always remain full of bugs. Bethesda plans on fixing these as fast as they can.

There are also minor complaints I've seen. One of which is that Fallout 76 uses a lot of assets from Fallout 4. Fallout New Vegas also used a lot of assets
from Fallout 3, but I don't see anyone complaining there. People have also said that the C.A.M.P. system is flawed since when you place a C.A.M.P. it dissapers forever after you log off. However, this isn't true. If no other player as built a C.A.M.P. near where you place your's, then your C.A.M.P. will spawn into the server with you exactly where you left it. Another complaint people have is that Fallout 76 is just a cash grab. Their evidence for this is that Fallout 76 is just a survival game. Fallout 76, however, is barely a survival game. The only survival aspect is that you have to eat, drink, and
sometimes you get an illness. Fallout 4's survival difficulty was more of a survival game than Fallout 76. People have also tried to use the micro-transaction
as evidence for the game being a cash grab. However, the micro-transactions are only cosmetic items. Bethesda has also said that the actual DLC for the game
(Like Far Harbor, Old World Blues, or Mothership Zeta) will be free because of the micro-transactions. You even get the micro-transaction currency for free
just by doing basic in-game stuff like killing ghouls. So would you rather have to pay $40 for more story and gameplay features or would you rather have a
completely optional micro-transaction service while you get the $40 DLC for free? And technically, almost every game out there is a cash grab. Do you think
Rockstar would have made Red Dead Redemption 2 if they won't going to get money for it? Companies don't make these games just because they feel like it or to
be nice. They make these games because it makes them money. Every company is like that. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA are all only here for the money. They don't make games to be nice. They make them so they can get money.

So this is how my adventure goes, I plan out my camp location weeks before the game starts. Loved that spot for about over 3 weeks.

Yet seems there is a glitch, when C.A.M.P.'s get too crowded or near other camps, they delete camps.

So mine got deleted this morning.

So I decided to move camp to area I been looking forward to moving to anyway…

Encountered way too many high level enemies to set up shop. (I am just about Lvl 30)

Second area was on a cliff, near by some tough enemies to some, but I should be able to deal with.

    Leave because Maintenance

And return to a Super mutant that is glitched under my tent, and is able to see me across the map.

Literally running out of Options I decide to set up C.A.M.P. in the behind the Summer Villas

(Enemies here are literally lvl 15 to lvl 1)

And my home was destroyed by a Big Bat literally seconds after setting it up.

Now I have nothing and no where to set up C.A.M.P.

    Game Over I guess.

Literally can't play without a C.A.M.P. ..... What make angry more is how much was shared between Fallout 4 during development and how that likely made Fallout 4 worst because of it.

They really should have never planned to do this game.

The world Fallout 76 is installed in is huge and simply beautiful. The landscape and the main interest points (camps, bases, towns) are very well done with a lot of hidden stashes and secrets for you to find and loot. The hostile mobs that you find in the world can spawn on pre-coded events (quests) or you can force some to spawn (by annihilating everything with a nuke, it just works), needless to say, the way the mobs scale up to your level is perfectly fine, yet I still wish that some of them posed a bigger threat (Scorched are literally just training dummies for me at any point in the game). I also would've liked the Appalachian folklore beasts to be more unique to this world, rather than having them encountered quite often. They're still interesting to fight, Scorchbeasts being literally hell sometimes to take upon. The crafting and base building in this title are a total improvement over the same systems from FO4, although I still wish they'd have more in store for them. Most likely that wish will be done through future content patches, if any. So far basebuilding had a few breaking bugs that i've encountered but they've been seemingly fixed as of 22/11/2018. The game rewards exploration for sure, and also punishes digging in too deep in some situations. The quests in the game, although as much as I wished for them to be given or completed at human or sentient ghoul NPCs, are at a fine level. They're exactly what you'd expect from a survival game (which this title is, people tend to forget that FO76 is a survival game and not an RPG like the previous installments in the franchise, despite the way Bethesda tried to introduce some lore in the quests with no friendly NPCs around). The quests push you to explore, kill, loot and sometimes, even group up with people in order to face a big threat (group objectives are usually optional, really wish they weren't). For a survival game so far, it is what you'd expect, the survival mechanics (hunger, thirst etc) are well implemented. Now on to the bad parts. FO76 uses the Creation Engine, which is in a huge manner a refurbished Gamebryo engine (engine used for Bethesda games pre Skyrim launch) and it shows its age. There are a lot of bugs and glitches. I've encountered a lot game breaking bugs that just prevented me from doing something that I wanted (specifically in base building). Despite those bugs, I found something else to spend my time on while waiting for Bethesda to drop a patch to fix these problems. So far I can say i'm relatively happy that they've taken care of a few truly nasty game breaking ones, although seemingly ignoring the other minor bugs. The game has a no push to talk button, while being a survival game, which is unexplainable to be honest.
To summarize the ups and downs:
    Ups:
-Vast and huge world, great for exploration
-Lore, despite being introduced the way it is, has its moments a lot of times
-Crafting and building on point, wish they expand those systems in the future.
    -Survival mechanics work
-Combat system from FO4, still good
-Unique mobs, many dangerous, even while in power armor, some, completely training dummies
-Works good with friends that appreciate survival games with a small questing experience twist

    Downs:
-Bugthesda confirmed, many remain unfixed, probably will be like that forever.
    -Visual glitches occur very often.
-Outdated engine shows its age, game has a few optimization issues, not impossible to play at constant frames with a below average PC build.
-Lack of NPCs (sentient humanoids) is still unexplainable, there should have been at least a few NPC raiders somewhere. I cannot believe that out of all those people that came out of the vault none of them went totally rogue (game should have not been focused on the players being the only inhabitants of the vault, disregarding thus sentient NPCs, is what i'm trying to say).
-The game can feel dull at points if solo playing, due to how big the world is, there are a lot of open spaces with literally nothing on them.
-Servers seemingly need a lot of maintenance downtimes, despite not a lot of players being online on one server at a time ( ? - could be faulty engine that doesn't allow big server uptime, who knows, it really sucks when you got engaged in an activity and then you got a downtime of around 1 hour+ incoming in just a few mins).
    -No push to talk yet.
-A lot of items/objects used to disappear at launch, can't really confirm if they still do today, last time I've encountered something disappearing from my inventory is 3 days ago.
-Microtransactions (although purely cosmetic) in a game in this state, should not be a thing, at all. Pull an EA and add them later if you really want them Greedthesda.

Is the game worth 60 bucks as it is right now? I'd say yes and no. You really need to be the target audience of this game in order to get full value. 6/10, has potential if kept updated, like is NMS lately.

Bethesda has gotten away with releasing unfinished and unpolished games for too long, and because of the need to release a game this early just in the hope of catching the christmas sales and the game of the year awards has now shown how greedy Bethesda has become. people need to stand up together and voice their opinion like never before and show the world how terrible Bethesda has made. if there is an award for most unbelievably bad game made by competent creators this game should be given this award every day over and over again. we shouldn't excuse the bugs, we shouldn't excuse the poor quality, we shouldn't excuse the micro transactions, and we definitely shouldn't excuse the full price for something that looks like it just entered a playable alpha stage of development! I held out and waited for release. Release arrived. I woke in Vault 76 eager to get in the wasteland of west Virginia. Picked up some stuff left behind kindly by the overseer wherever he she was. Opened the vault door and there i was in the wasteland ready to get my first taste of radroach. Now the graphics are not oit of this world but it looked ok some places looked amazing (gtx 1070) so i was on max settings ive seen a lot of complaints that this is a terrible looking game. It isnt, but its not great either a few patches in maybe it will be a lot better. So as i was saying i started wandering the wasteland following the main quest which is ok for the most part until you realise the multiplayer element is pointless and the quests are so go here get this go there fetch this which is ok for a few missions but got to the point where i got a bit sick of it considering on some you had to travel great distance. The action/shooting part is tedious at times and the AI is quite dumb which i figured may improve a few patches in (yet to see) as i mentioned the multiplayer i did team with a couple of guys but we all seemed to be in the same pointless loop of not really needing eachother so after that i played solo. PVP which is the reason i was looking forward to 76 as oppose to being the difference to its previous games in the series was pointless nobody shoots anybody they all see no point due to the stupid mechanics. As a survival element game there is no reason for it to be so other than eating drinking. If your familiar with say ARK,Rust,Conan Exiles etc the elements like building, fighting npc, pvp, base building, teamwork in 76 the element is pointless. The game as a whole is ok not the worst ive played but a long way off being good and a long way from terrible maybe in 6 months it could be worth looking again after a few updates and a cheaper price. So after i played quite a goof while reached level 20 etc had a good run i decided to try my luck on a refund which to full credit to bethesda i received in full no hassle. So to finish if your a fallout fan this game is ok not great and is not half as bad as its made to sound by critics and rager fanboys its worth a look at a cheaper price but at full price £50 GBP its an overpriced ok game. * Inability to remove scrubs, branches, stones, trees and other things that interfere with building a base. I don't like when tree branches go right through the walls of my house.

    * Repetitive events

    * Enemies respawning too much. For example when another player enters the same area.

    * Poor UI when it comes to handling inventory and especially junk.

    * Too small stash.

If you enjoy open worlds and being able to play with your friends, you may like this one. If you want a solo RPG experience, or a massive Multiplayer experience, steer clear because it will disappoint. If you're a early game fanboy that hated or disliked F04, you likely won't like this one so save your money. If you're a hardcore single RPG player, you definitely won't like this one. If you enjoy games for what they have to give without trying to force it to fit in your expectations, and enjoy the fallout universe, you may (like many others) enjoy this game.

It was launched too early with not enough beta time, so there is still bugs. Mostly cosmetic, not really game breaking. A few broken quests here and there (like nearly every single game on release) with the first update they're already showing commitment to smashing the worst of the bugs. If that's something that bothers you, wait a few months at least for them to polish it up a bit and watch some twitch streams to check whether you would really enjoy it.

Microtransactions are cosmetic, you can earn the means to buy things on the store in the game. so that's a no nevermind.

I highly suggest picking up a friend or two to run with, it can make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. The world is full of things to discover, but if you're not into the whole exploration/poking into every nook and cranny type of play, again, this game will likely disappoint.

Build limitations and hoarding limitations are the only reason I won't give this game a ten. There's talk of increasing them, but as of right now they are quite restrictive and irritating if you want to store everything/build everything.

Above all. if you don't go into the game with expectations (both good or bad) This game can be quite fun as it is. If you're expecting a F05. this is not it.

The same bug launch seems to be happening with Fallout 76, but amplified because they have the extra factor of being online to contend with.
I've had a lot of fun despite the bugs and server issues, even if i played solo for my first 35 levels of the game. The real fun of the game is the player interaction, alone you might be irritated because of some weird bug, but with friends it's something you can all laugh at together.
The big boy "Scorchbeasts" seem like bullet sponges at first, but when you start getting to the same level as them it's not much of a hassle anymore, although the loot they drop could be better.
Base building could still need fixing as a lot of players are reporting that they can't put their base down anymore because of "floating objects", but this will be fixed most likely.
The main story is pretty enjoyable, if you don't mind reading a little and listening to audio tapes, actually this game might have the best voice acting of all the Fallout games i've played to date. There is an infuriating and hilarious quest involving the DMV, which is part of the main questline, though let me warn you, it's almost too realistic, at first i was mad but i couldn't help laughing, the whole thing was like a Monthy Python sketch.
If you look around, there is a lot of untold stories, this one place which was a medical supplies shop had an obscene amount of skeletons inside and had a note mentioning getting ready for "The Skeleton Wars".
Frame rate, field of view can all be edited. Granted in a pretty roundabout way since it's not actually in the in game menu.
At any rate, in it's current state i'll give it a 7/10, has potential to be a lot better than it currently is with a good round of bug fixes, mod support is coming down the line as well, and always improves all Beth games massively.

If anyone's wondering i'm at level 55, and I haven't yet completed the final quest for the game.

Do I think Bethesda missed the mark on a few things? Yes. There are problems here. For a game you have to collect everything, the stash box is terribly limited. There are bugs. I've had quests reset multiple times. But this is from a company that put out Daggerfall which had 4 to 5 pages of patch notes EVERY patch cycle for half a year.

It's not Fallout 5. It's a survival game in that world. If you thought you were getting something else, then yeah, I guess the negative review is justified. I personally have enjoyed it quite a lot. Hanging out with buddies, tearing through some of the crazier monsters, it's been fun.

But yes, if you thought this would be like every other Fallout game, then you just need to go back and play Fallout 4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everyone review bombing this have either never fully explored the world around them to enjoy the atmospheric story telling, or absolutely hate not having a living person with a face shout words into their face to explain the situation.

    The graphics:
I won't lie, the game uses the exact same engine, and exact same assets as Fallout 4, and some assets taken from Skyrim.
Is it lazy? Yes. - But it is still a beautiful world. People comparing this to a "PS2 game" is a flat-out lie. Play Drakengard and see for yourself.
Should the engine have been updated? Absolutely.
But, overall, other than the usual bugs at launch, I believe the game is near perfection.

    Environment:
    - "Oh, well, there's NO NPCS".
This is a lie. No living Humans does not equate to "no NPCs". Are the talking robots a great, beaming personality? Not necessarily, no. - But, there are a few very advanced characters that do have a lot to say.
The world feels like what you would expect out of a recently nuked state that is dealing with a biological attack on the side. It's hostile, and there's sparse, localised groups of life here and there. You will find that you will encounter something quite often if you stick to the main roads, and between towns. And you'll still trip over something in the wilderness and outskirts. But, you may be surprised to find that it's not New York city levels of population.

    The story:
A big one, as it's being told via holotapes, I still find the story to be interesting, but not gripping. It being told to me via holotape isn't necessarily a bad thing. it breaks convention, and I personally like that. Ultimately, when you take a step back from it for a second; what *is* the difference between getting dialogue through a tape, and getting dialogue from a NPC? Hell, Preston for Fallout 4 only told you that settlements get attacked, and people ate it up! He became a meme! But you replace it with a holotape, and suddenly it's an outrage? It's beyond me.

    Balancing:
This is a massive issue; as far as I'm concerned, ranged weapons are inferior, and that's coming from a person who mains rifles. - Melee is the way to go, and using power armour is a must. There is a lot of issues with the system in place, and Bethesda will need to fix it. Currently the meta feels like it's melee, but not by choice, but by force. - You do it, because everyone else will, and it's the best thing out there. And that's a shame.

    Patching/Quality of Life:
Bethesda have released massive patches in the couple weeks after release, patching things left, right, and centre. Detailed bug reports, and patch notes have been released, and I am personally thankful of that. Personally, I expected Bethesda to not be bothered with patching, and let the community do a "Unofficial Fallout 76 patch" mod, like we get for all the other games. But, here, we do get some sense of them actually trying to keep it going.

    Bugs:
There's some big, some small. The largest ones will waste your time, waste your in-game hard-earned materials, and will set you back. Some people quit after them, but it hasn't happened to me. For example: Your camp just disappearing. No idea why it happens, but some people have had pieces go, or entire camps just disappear, and not able to be placed back. Smaller ones include water cutting off at a weird point, rocks floating, minor immersion breaking stuff. They don't really bother me, but I know they can be big issues for other players.

    Conclusion:
The game is a lot of fun with friends, everyone i know who is playing the game is enjoying it, and I recommend at least giving the game a try. The game is buggy, but forgivable. - What is in in the game is an addictive blast.

So I've been playing the game since it came out. A life long fan of the Fallout Series in general. I won't deny it has it's bugs. My experience though has been much different than most of the reviews here.

Partially due to the fact that since the release of Fallout 3 I've been wanting a almost co-op Fallout game. To me the game is not dead. I generally always run into a few folks every session. I've enjoyed my time playing up to 40hrs already! With a good friend of mine. We've explored many of the games awesomely designed areas. Figured out various mysteries and clues. We've garnered a solid appreciation for the games ACTUAL story so far. When someone says 'No Story and Dumb Quests.' They've clearly not played more then 4hrs and gotten through the gosh durn Tutorial quests.

There are issues of course. Stash needs to be greatly increased in the amount of weight it can hold. The Engine is old and could use a lot of love or a new one. That's a given. The Perk Card system can be pretty hectic and confusing in the beginning. Making it tough to plan ahead unless you actually 'look up online' when you unlock certain perks. It's difficult to trade with others the interface for it is clunky and not always very responsive. While earning caps is pretty dreadfully slow. A player driven economy would be awesome and a welcomed addition to the game. I've personally only encountered minor bugs. Dropping something for a friend instead of trading it, will sometimes cause the 'bag' to disappear. Sometimes after killing mobs those bodies will also disappear and lastly sometimes a player won't load in on my screen (If we're in a team).

If you played Fallout for the exploration and the adventure of the Wasteland then this game will be more than a treat. Even better if you've got one or two friends then this game will exceed expectation. I promise you one thing if you play up to 10hrs you'll understand just how big the world is and how full of life it can be. We've come across a few player bases that were pretty neat. Ultimately the game is solid. Needs more love but as it stands it's a solid game. There is story, it's fun. There's plenty of neat holotape stories to uncover and taking photos of the various things in the world that will become my loading screen is a awesome touch. Get the game and judge for yourself, please do not let the negative reviews effect you in such a distasteful manner.

Now i know people have a right to their own opinion, to what they believe is the best game, or to make it the best game, or a great game, and i will never deny anyone their right to do so.

But this is Fallout, this is the series that i love the most, more than any other game franchise around. It hurts to see people so hateful, so angry, so willing to throw negative reviews for such spiteful reasons. This happened for Fallout 4 as well, and fans did this for New Vegas, and for Fallout 3. Heck some did it for Fallout Tactics, even Fallout 2 being such purists.

So where does it stop? When does this Fallout game hating end? I like the game, yes, but there are aspects that drive me crazy enough that i would have given it a zero too, yes. But you know what makes me different? Do you know why i have no love for Todd Howard or Bethesda, and how he keeps throwing out games that are not ready, or that each game tends to break some aspect of lore until it is explained and fixed, or why they choose the choices they did for a game, even if it did piss so many people off?

I'm here to simply have fun playing Fallout, if i have fun, if i enjoy playing, I'll keep coming back, if not, then I'll come back eventually when I'm bored, but i just want to play. Not want the latest graphic engine, the best immersive NPC's, the perfect gaming experience, even the perfect match with lore, i just want to play! That i can play with other players now, cool, that they are working on patching the game, good, no game is perfect at launch, no matter how many years it is taken. I just want to play, not hear people, or see people in the case of my video feeds and channels, endlessly complain and complain and complain. Play it or don't, have fun or don't, If you cannot figure out the story, or why the only NPC's (and yes, there are NPC's) are there, it's not my place to explain it.

So either just play, and have fun, and let those of us who do like it have fun, or just calm down, say your peace, and go, for if you cannot say anything constructive with your criticism, then do not say anything at all, cause personally, I'm tired of this toxic fan base.

The world is huge, the new monsters are cool and challenging, 95% of the players I've encountered have all been pretty friendly. I personally think, if Bethesda treats this game like ESO and continues to build on it, this game can really evolve into something amazing. I see it currently as a building block, and I'm happy to be playing on the ground floor.

As for the gameplay, it is reasonably enjoyable, and more so if you have a dedicated group to play with (not necessarily friends). The story is quite uninspiring and should have been implemented in a more intriguing way rather than audio holotapes, terminal entries and "reply only" NPCs. It can still be enjoyed, but many will likely find it tiring and try to skip through or ignore some of the story queues, like i did on multiple occasions.
Combat is the same as Fallout 4 and is fun. It's nothing revolutionary, but it does the job.

Exploration is great as the map is filled with many interesting locations and beautiful environments to discover but can sometimes not feel very rewarding as some locations tend to be rather hollow, especially due to a lack of NPCs that are interesting.

The game feels quite empty with the 24 player limit per map, as it is very large, and many interactions with other players have been through meeting at the repetitive and lacklustre event quests that occur around the map. Even if I had a random encounter it seemed like many people were reluctant to team up, or were already part of another team. I personally think the player count should be doubled, and introduce better dispersed events to ensure that players don't congregate in specific locations for too long. This along with introducing a player hub of some kind, such as a city or the Whitesprings resort, could provide a way for players to meet, team up and even trade. It would be an excellent way to deal with the current common struggle of finding rare plans or getting rid of unwanted plans and items. This is in part due to NPC vendors having a money capacity of 200 caps per vendor faction. So a player would only be able to earn a specific amount of caps from NPC trading per day, but player trading is potentially endless.

As many have said, this is not a great "Fallout" game but it is still a decent multiplayer game, that needs still needs a lot of work. That being said, I personally don't think this game deserves this level of flak, but much of it is certainly warranted towards Bethesda. At its current state, it is not worth $60, however if Bethesda follows through with improving this game, I can see it become worthwhile. This game would have been a 6/10 had there not been so many bugs and performance issues.

Those are kids that barely have level 20, I had power armor and found the game really easy, until I got Ultracite lvl 45 power armor and now I'm dying to some enemies.
I think the game will get better. Hopefully more stuff will be added too, for free. Until then a 7 is a balanced grade. Considering people pay 60$ for games that you play for 10 hours max, you'd be a hypocrite to complain.

The game's world and mood are very good. But this is a semi-finished game. There is a lot of work to be done to make a full game. It is full of confusing errors. If it is not repaired, it will be up to 6 months and end of this game. Disappointment. It's too expensive for it to be empty. The end game is not at all.

At level 5, with the help of another level 5 player, we managed to defeat a level 35 monster. They forced the hunger and thirst mechanics on everybody which I'm pretty sure no one asked for.

It looks and feels like a fallout game, which is kinda cool. Hopefully, they'll go back to the drawing board with this and bring back NPCs, add some quest lines with any kind of interesting narrative. I 100% regret not waiting for more reviews and the subsequent major DLC/patch that will (hopefully) make the game feel like more than a simple proof of concept waiting to be fleshed-out.

If you’re not a fan of listening/reading notes or don’t like exploring the environment in a game, then I guess Fallout 76 isn’t for you. Graphics is decent. The game is somewhat buggy and PVP needs work. Otherwise the game could be a 8/10 later, depending on future DLC. Would differently recommend to people to try it, at least wait for a sale if you think $60 is too much.

Reading some of the other reviews, I am wondering if people talk about the same game that I have been playing for 50-60 hours so far.

I have played all Fallout games from the old 2D tactical rpgs to the new 3D ones and Fallout 76 is a worthy, albeit different entry into the series.

To be clear: Fallout 76 is no Fallout 5 and is not the usual RPG experience. But at no point it even tries to be.

It is a game in the vein of The Forest or Conan: Exiles and in that regard it shines brightly. The connection is stable and playing with other members of your team is a blast. Taking on a location with creatures way above your level takes coordination and is fun.

Crafting has been scaled down a bit from Fallout 4 (to keep people from building unrealistic floating homes) but is still a great way to lose some hours trying to get your house just right.

The graphics are the same as Fallout 4, so if you hated those you are not going to love them here. But is is amazing what Bethesda created with their old engine and you will come across beautiful lush (albeit radiated) valleys, foreboding, smoldering mining pits, and adequately disgusting toxic swamps.

If you play the game as a single player, the best way to describe it is as the later half of a "normal" Fallout game. At some point you have finished the main quest and start exploring the area for xp and loot. I returned to an old (200+ hours) Fallout 4 save a few days before the Fallout 76 release to do exactely that (to get into the mood) and I can say without doubt it feels the same.
So if you stop a Fallout game after then main quest, Fallout 76 is not for you. If you sink countless hours into crafting, exploring and looting, feel right at home!

As for the writing: Since there are no NPCs (except maybe Graham and Rose) you have to read or listen to the story via holotapes. And these are amazing!!! Fallout always had dark humor, but it never had real emotional depth. Some of the holotapes this time around are bitter, gut-wrenching sad and some (few) are hopeful. ("Confessions of an addict" or the Whitesprings tapes). Whoever did the writing and voice acting: Amazing job!

And Fallout 76 is finally a game where you can get the microtransaction money simply from playing the game. And at a good rate at that. I already bought the skins I wanted and some of the additional emotes and player icons and did not spend a single real life currency on that. If every game (I am looking at you here ESO, Elite and Overwatch) would treat in game stores like that, Microtransactions would not have gotten such a bad reputation to start with.

    Is everything sunshine? No.

-The game lacks dedicated PVP and is really a co-op game. I can live with that, but I do see the merrit should they add a dedicated PVP server/zone.
-The stash inventory/c.a.m.p. building limit and blueprint size are far too small. You either start not picking up every piece of junk (But it is Fallout!!!) or you have to micromanage. This is why I did not give the game 10 out of 10.
-A push-to-talk button is needed (but already announced, so I will give them a pass on that).
-A lot of the fun comes from taking on diffictult high level zones with friends before you are the respective level. I can see that maybe this aspect may become less fun later on.

To sum it up: Grab some friends and explore! When you are alone, take your time and read/listen to the lore (and actually feel some feels every now and then). Just don't expect a Fallout 5 (which will come anyway at some point, so don't fret). You will have fun. And you will do just that one more map marker over the hill and then go to bed on time. Yeah, right. ;-)

ps: Maybe there are so few positive reviews, because most of the people who like it are still stuck in the game and will be for the foreseeable future. (-:
