The game is not perfect, but it has a solid base and I can easily see how it can progress to interesting directions. I can see why not everyone would enjoy playing this game alone, but it's really great when played with friends. Overall, I enjoy the game greatly, and look forward to see how it advances.

I waited at least 50 hours played before submitting a review, something that a lot of negative reviews didn't do, fallout 76 is a game that or you love it or you hate it. Personally i love it, exploration and survival are fantastic, the lore also. However, Fallout76 has also a lot of problems, like every bethesda game, but it's potential is infinite.

Exploring is still the most interesting part in Fallout 76, but you will deal with bugs everyday, every hour, every minute. I hardly ever have seen a game which is so hard bugged like Fallout 76. I've found over 50 bugs in a weak. 30 in just 2 days srsly. Posting them with pictures etc. had several patches now and those bugs are still there and bothering me to death. Posting them with pictures etc. had several patches now and those bugs are still there and bothering me to death. I just loged in and again someone has build his base at the same spot like I do. The games logic is that the other person who logs in after the 1st one, has to rebuild his camp somewhere else ( WORST idea of all time ) you can't even choose a server you want to join. It could warn you before loging to this server that there is someone who has claimed your camp spot so you won't have to rebuild and look for a new spot. The funny part is that the game does not allow you to place your old camp as a blueprint. No matter how often I've reported this bug, it is still there. So I had to recycle my camp blueprint and start all over. Then the Building Budged went full BEFORE I even could finish my recized camp which is like 30% smaller and the Building Budged is already full. I lost my Turret but the Budged for this turred is still active. My character keeps forgetting blueprints which I've spend thousands of caps for. That annoying scorched beast which keeps speed hacking attacking you and following you like nothing else. This thing is EVERYwhere. Just attacked my base whith his 10 attacks per sond. Srly Bethesda this game makes allot of fun but it is also the most buggy game you ever made. Atleast Bug fixing would help with such heavy game breaking bugs but there are just alittle fixes or even worse like game crashing which was not an issue before a performance patch. Dropping items the bag disappears rlly often. Well atleast for me. The worst and totally redicolous thing is that your stash can handle 400 KG of scrap only. This is the worst problem about this game. I just lost 200 KG just because there is NO way to stash them. Now my base is damaged, my power armore etc. and I do not have enough scrap to repair it because of bugs which made me lose all my scrap I had with me. This game makes allot of fun but those bugs are killing all my fun and even will to contenue playing this game. I just hope I could refund this game by now.

Been playing this game since the BETA and I am just sick of those bugs which keeps destroying my fun in this game. There is even no REPAIR button for your camp. No you have to destroy the parts which god hit by something to completely rebuild it which also costs scrap.

But the music of the game ( not the radio ) is totally nice to hear while exploring the empty world.

This game is very fun and addictive, if you like games like mmorps (WoW, ESO) farming and building in fallout 4, or survival single player games then you should be happy with this game. There's some ... many.. glitch/bugs yes, but if you played a lot of mmorpg you won't see any difference, glitch are commun in online games. Online games are like that.

I'm having LOT of fun and I solo all the time.

The map is huge... impressive... Buildings are explorables and big... Guns are fun. The game is challenging too. Graphics are good for an online game (do not compare online graphics with offline graphics). Quests are long and fun too.

For me, this game worth 8/10 because of the bugs.

But of course, if you are looking for Fallout 5 or Skyrim, this is not what you are looking for.

The graphics - The FOV is incredible small, they could of increased this slightly, i get they need all the extra FPS they need (especially for consoles) but that's kind of ridiculous.

Gaussian blur everywhere, you'd think your character requires prescription glasses or something...

VOIP - Mic is active during character creation screen... so you can hear everyone raging at the GUI while in their character creating screen. (one player was scream F&%%%$$$k while smashing his keys)

The game also uses holotapes/robots instead of human NPC's to deliver the story... and they are boring as hell, it reminds me a lot of the questing in world of warcraft back in 2006.

The micro transactions are working though.... but you'll have to farm for hours if you want a cap, or pay 5$ of real world currency.

What a mess... It's as if they handed you a hungry man meal and told you eat that in the busiest cafeteria... cold, no microwave.

Meanwhile, New Vegas was the fillet minion we all yearn for and wanted more of... (maybe with coop options)

I don't get why people don't give this game a chance. Sure it is very buggy and there is not that big of a story but it is unique. This is their first multiplayer game, do you think that it will be a perfect game when it released. If you did then you are unrealistic as **** for having high standards. So give it a chance and actually play the game.

There are known exploits for leveling up that haven't been patched and that's really a big turn off in a multiplayer online game. Other than the bugs and exploits however, it's great. It feels like a fallout world, exploring and discovering new areas and piecing together the little stories is cool and interesting. The choice to use holotapes and notes to tell the story rather than characters isn't as terrible as I originally thought it would be, though the story does feel more like you are following just behind a protagonist rather than being the protagonist - you're always finding out what happened rather than being instrumental in those happenings. The Enemy AI seems fairly simplistic and isn't helped by a laggy server experience. Having other players around is a great addition to the fallout world, and grouping up and running about is entertaining. End game feels a bit lacklustre - launching nukes and farming the resulting high level mobs is great the first few times, but then once you have a few cool high level legendary weapons, what to do next?

Base building is unfortunatley completely broken. The idea you can pick up your base as a blueprint and then plonk it down somewhere else would be great .. if it worked. It's a bit of a crapshoo as to wether all your base pieces will still exist, and it can be very difficult to get the game to let you actually place your base down again without complaining about the terrain or some other issue.

Balance is another problem. Weapon balance is completely jumbled up for both PvE and PvP content.

Overall, I'm having fun __but. It desperately needs bugfixes (sooo many bugs, like unbelievable numbers of mechanics bugs - not gamebreaking, but still...) and balance changes.

    + it's a fallout game...kind of

    - abysmal performance and optimisation, outdated graphics, crashes across all platforms.
    - terrible reuse of an old single player game engine to patch together a shallow online experience
    - possible hacks, tons of bugs, easy exploits, terrible AI and pathing which leads me to believe that QA department in this company doesn't exist or they smoked crack while testing it
    - 24 people per server on a giant map. in 2018...
    - game tries to cater to PvE players even though there's no real PvE (robot NPCs, really?), end game doesn't exist
    - game tries to cater to PvP crowd when the combat system between players is totally neutered and really worthless.
    - and a lot of other issues there's no point in mentioning anymore

Bethesda should be ashamed of releasing a product in this state, regardless of the game design they had for this title.

If you need your Fallout dose, play one of the earliest titles with mods.
If you want a higher risk/reward survival sandbox PvP game, play Rust. It's growing very well and has a consistent user base with a lot of different server types. OR play Conan, or Ark. Or whatever else, just not this piece of crap.

PLEASE - DO. NOT. BUY. THIS

The world feels so empty without NPC's, PVP is horrible (really just add PVP and PVE servers...), and the game is really, really buggy. Stop giving Bethesda a free pass, spend your money elsewhere.

Now I´m really enjoying myself; playing solo or with my wife in co-op. The atmosphere is fantastic, the quests fun and it´s enjoyable to snipe your enemies from afar using your sniper rifle or getting in close and personal with the machete.
Sure, the game still have some flaws (the stash is much too small, too much limit building your BASE, lack of written chat), but Bethesda has been listening to the players and has promised to fix these things in upcoming patches.
The game is slowburn, RPG filled with lore and atmosphere. Do not listen to all the bad reviews; once you adjust to 76 mechanisms, it´s really lots of fun.

The current state of FO76 is an incredibly boring and tedious experience, with only the vaguest of hints of an attempt at any story, that includes an extremely terrible PVP implementation (it probably is the worst player-versus-player experience in the entire video game industry. There are markers telling you where every person is on the entire world at all times and to "fight" you have to both walk over, shoot each other 1 time to challenge each other so there's no surprises or excitement possible, and only if both people do that can they start fighting.)

The player-versus-environment experience is no better. There are zero NPCs in game other than a few vendor robots who stand still and do nothing much. The non-existent story is just some random text on computer consoles, like bad writing from the dregs of fanfiction dot net. Enemy AI is so bad that it can't escape the worthless story by being a good combat game. Enemies will run helplessly face-first into a tree for 5 minutes while you shoot their hand. Defense missions will never end because enemies are running into walls instead of even making it to the objective. I've never had one single engaging, difficult or fun fight in FO76. Every single one was either mindlessly easy, with auto-aim at the press of a button, a backpack of 30 instant heals and the AI that's too slow to ever catch a player who wants to just kite them or it was a tedious bullet-sponge affair where the enemy was still absolutely terrible but had 50,000 HP somehow because it's level 40. If I had infinite ammo, I could kill a level 100 enemy at level 1 in FO76 because the enemies are incapable of any real combat, the only thing they have is a big HP bar. The current game has worse combat than a free flash game on a shady adult website.

Progression system is terrible just like every single other thing in this mess of a game. It feels like there's 3 total weapons if you theme a character (like revolvers, or rifles, or laser guns) so it's an MMO with nothing at all to actually do. None of my characters in actual good games such as borderlands 2 have ever felt like there were only three total weapons. Actual non-FO76 games have hundreds of weapons or variants with different stats. FO76 you just scrap 500 combat rifles and then click a few times to instantly get the one best combat rifle, so there's zero actual hunting and min-maxing for gear. Bethesda has no clue whatsoever how to actually make an MMO game. Like day 1 world of warcraft ten years ago actually had hunting for gear which FO76 lacks since you just get XP and make whatever item is wanted.

There's no endgame at all. Once you have whichever of the three total rifles you want and have a full set of perks, you just have infinite money and nothing worth doing with it. The game is already lacking any difficulty at all, so there's no real cash-sinks to progress towards. There's no player economy with trading because the game has no items that people would want to buy. They can already beat everything with the basic crafted one.

All the multiplayer really does in the game is mean that it's the only modern fallout game where bethesda's terrible game design, terrible programming and terrible art design cannot be modded into something enjoyable. Some companies like Creative Assembly are guilty of releasing bad games that they use steam workshop to have modders change into good games without being paid to do it. But bethesda has removed even that possibility, ensuring FO76 is 0/10 at launch and will never at any point become a good game in the future. It would require a complete rebuilding of the entire game engine and the entire economy and the entire combat system from the very ground up. The chances of that happening are zill. So this game feels like a disappointing ten dollar mod to Fallout 4. It is no surprise that very few people are happy if they were tricked into thinking it would be an actual video game.

There is no purpose to anything you do as the player. Move from area to area and just pick up junk. Craft some things to move to another area. Progress in levels to get more perks that don't make the game feel like you're actually getting much stronger. Some of the enemies are pretty well designed but their AI makes them boring to fight. The lack of any meaningful story makes the journey just as meaningless.

If you want to find lore then there is plenty of it. Holotapes and text logs are plentiful but you are experiencing a story that has already happened. You're a trespasser in someone else's journey. We could have lived in a world where the responders were dealing with the Brotherhood of Steel or the Enclave dealing with MODUS. Instead we are left with the husk that is the aftermath. Personally, I would have rathered had a full fledged story experience that I could have played with friends or solo and then also have the world we were given. In the same vein as ESO presents it's non changing world, we could have just lived in a static world that doesn't change with any major action we do but still have a story presented to the audience while dealing with the repercussions that an online only world has to deal with.

The game isn't a 0 or a 1 but it's definitely a game that the Fallout fans did not want. I'll still play it because some of my friends are having fun and I can create my own moments with them but it's not something I will be playing in the months to come.

The game is extremely unstable and I'm constantly being frozen for 3 to 5 seconds while the server catches its breath so to speak. On average, the server will freeze me out of play 5 to 6 times per hour. It is extremely hard to get a good gamer pace going when the game is constantly fighting the user's inputs. Beside being buggy as all heck, the story ranges from one dimensional to being virtually non existent. The combat is terrible as the enemy combatants seemingly transport back and forth across the screen making you waste tons of ammo to kill yet another scorched. This isn't a fallout game anymore than Mass Effect Andromeda was a Mass Effect game. Using the game as a skin and playing off the name doesn't make it part of the series. This is the MEA of the fallout world, and will be rated accordingly.

While there are endless opportunities to criticize the game for everything no one wanted, lets focus on one thing. NO one wants to read through endless terminals or listen to endless holotapes, in an empty environment. The same mistakes EA made with MEA, is being made all over again with Bethesda and 76. The reviews should reflect this accordingly, and so far they have. Like it or not, those happy with the game are likely in the minority of the collection.

The game is quite an abomination. Bethesda should be ashamed of themselves. Glad it was on their dollar. Their financial loss, is how we get their attention. With the significant discount in price in recent days, we should see this in the Gamestop bargin bin at $5-$10 in a month or two.

Very buggy at launch. Not enough communication with the community. This game was marketed as being something different from other Fallout games, so it isn't fair to grade it as such. Runs like garbage on even the best rigs, the game in unfinished, buggy mess. The lack of visibility to the game before launch was an immoral purposeful scheme to screw over all of us loyal Bethesda/Fallout fans. No refunds being offered at this time and that's why they didn't put it on steam, because valve would take care of the consumer whereas Bethesda is actively trying to screw over the customer.

Never again will I purchase a Bethesda product again.

WTF were Bethesda thinking while creating this crappy game?! I played this crap for 40+ hours (level 65+) and my score is a ZERO! This "game" is just unplayable! Now, I'm stuck in my power armor and my option are:
    1. Do not use any power armor; 2. Be as one with my power armor forever (or using some sort of PS2 cheat code to get out of it)
THIS IS LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE! P.S. Nice 15

To my surprise the initial install was a total of 50gig and was happy. The game remained stable for many hours with a few slow downs here and there. I also found myself really enjoying searching for items and building up my arsenal with minimal learning curve. I went from a lone wanderer hiding in the bushes with a stick,to wasteland security guard, flash light included. I dont know of my expectations were so low or expecting to run across more bugs than i did but this game is pretty fun! I love Bethesda and as long as they continue building this game I think it will be great, one day...kind of like a mall security guard or something. I recommend this game on PC,since that what I play on,and really excited to see modders start working on this like they did FO4. Expand

Honestly, I do not understand the hate. After 4 hours, the map is huge and with many interesting locations, multiplayer works well, there are both quests and events, base building is better than Ark or Exiles. Controls are awkward, taken from console version, but overall tolerable, even if they should fix it.

I did love Fallout New Vegas, Fallout3, Fallout4. Fallout76 is like a generic survival game. The Graphics are ok, that is not my problem, graphics let me feel like Fallout4 again. But why this survival game? Where is the Fallout Epic Storyline, the Funny-Seroius Feeling about the world design. all is gone, is just an typical survival game.

I'm not sure what this was, Todd's LSD-induced idea, corporate demanding Fallout jump on the diseased bandwagon that is currently afflicting the rest of gaming or a feature that wasn't ready in time for F4 (and the studio demanded it get it's money worth). Hell, it was probably all three. Fact is though, it wasn't anywhere near up to scratch. Consumers are getting tired of this BS in AAA gaming and I'm glad they're voting with their wallets and writing negative reviews on-masse. Maybe our complaints will finally be listened to... but then again, when has this studio ever listened to us, really? Maybe they should just bite the bullet, sell the IP to whatever studio has the most ex-Obsidian employees and then maybe we'll get another gem like NV...

Crib notes version, if Todd is reading?
    - Consumers are tired of cashgrabs and half-finished games.
    - Microtransactions of any kind are CANCER.
    - Stop reusing assets just to bilk more money, yes I am talking about the reskinned skyrim dragon.
    - Fire your executive team, or sell the IP to a studio that actually cares.

First off, this game made me make a metacritic account just so I could rate it 0 stars. It is running (poorly) on a very old outdated engine that really can't handle and was not built for multiplayer. The bugs involved with the multiplayer make this game impossible to enjoy. If you are sure you really want this game, don't pay more than $10. Bethesda, I am not angry, I am just disappointed.

Basically, they took the worst parts of F4 and made a kinda-multiplayer "game" out of it. The only redeeming feature are somewhat interesting locations (compared to F4 at least). That's all.

An absolute travesty on consumers. A buggy mess that is without question inexcusable to put on the market. This game, at least if you care one bit about the gaming future, is a must pass. The game itself isn't worth two stones, play ark or rust if you want a better experience in the same vein.

Maybe a 0 is too much, it woud be a 2 maybe, but seeing how many fanboys there are here giving this GARBAGE of a game a 10/10, it's my duty to lower the score. They will never admit they were scammed, as always with Bethesda fanbois.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 76 is a new take on the old franchise, as you all know. Instead of a traditional RPG, they took it online and removed "intelligent" NPCs, effectively replacing them with live people. One of the major taglines of the game was to explore post-apocalyptic West Virginia with friends, and to that extent, they delivered what they promised.

The concept is great depending on who you ask. I understand if some people just don't like the idea of a Fallout that's not single player and one that has much fewer RPG elements, but where were all the criers when they released The Elder Scrolls Online? It's essentially the same treatment, and I feel like that's where a lot of the issues are coming from.

From a technical standpoint, the game is downright broken in many ways. This is the thing I see being complained about the second most. The amount of bugs in Fallout 76 is inexcusable, plain and simple. They're a AAA company, they shouldn't have released this game in this state. I've had numerous crashes, and an uncountable number of other minor glitches. I can look past small things like occasional T-poses and sparse physics issues, but the most annoying one so far has been invisible enemies that you can't do anything about and it's happened twice to both my cousin and me. That all needs fixed asap, and I'm fairly optimistic that Bethesda has a hold on things...it's just that these fixes don't happen overnight. It stems back to the idea that this game was released one or two years too early, but it's too late for that now. We all just have to make the best of it.

One major gripe of mine is the base-building. The CAMP mode isn't exactly lackluster, but the build limit is pretty small. You can't get away with more than a small two-story building if you plan on decorating it at all. Taking settlements/workshops on the map is fun, and you can generally do a lot more since you don't really have to build a building first. Stash limit is also painfully low, but Bethesda has already addressed the issue claiming they'll up the limit once they see how the servers respond.

Looking past those horrible things, the gameplay is actually fun when it works. I play with my cousin, and we've enjoyed our time in it. It's nice to finally have a Fallout game that you can enjoy with a friend - The world feels very much like a Fallout world, the monsters are very Fallout, the guns are as well...It's Fallout. The combat is fun and engaging, especially in a group of two. You can get overrun very easily, so it's challenging in that way at times. We're coming up on level 30, and there are still many areas that we've had problems with due to our low levels; there's a lot more exploring to do. That's all we want, really. More exploration, more backstory (notes, terminal logs, etc), and more guns, and other stuff to discover.

I've heard some critics say that the world is dull and boring, poorly created, and just an overall mess. Some areas of the world are tricky to traverse, but you don't want the world to be super easy to navigate. I've seen zero issues with the world thus far, and it's not really boring either. There are plenty of areas with interesting and unique places to discover. The worst part about the world is that many buildings are locked/boarded up tight. It would be nice to be able to explore more interiors, but I'm at least hoping they add it as DLC down the road. For instance, (map spoiler?) there's an attraction sort of North on the map which is a crashed satellite. I was hoping there'd be a way to get in and explore the interior, but there isn't...at least not that I've found. Other than stuff like that, I'm enjoying the world a lot.

Nukes are interesting - I've see folks complain about how it doesn't fit the lore or the overall tone of the previous games. While it doesn't exactly fit in with the theme of atomic bombs being terrifying and the end of the world, I think in a spinoff game like 76, it can be overlooked. Fallout Shelter is a spinoff game with no real lore to it. How is it so hard to overlook minor lore issues in 76?

At the end of the day, Bethesda had an idea for an online game set in the Fallout universe. They set out to make a game that you could play with your buds and just have a good time with. Sure, it's broken, but with time, I think they'll fix it (or get it as close to fixed as they possibly can). People are overreacting to this game. If this style of game isn't for you, just don't buy it. You knew what this would be...Bethesda was completely transparent about the state of the game and what the gameplay would entail all the way back from E3.

My final word: It's a decent attempt at taking a previously-single-player-only franchise online. Bethesda fell short on polishing the game, but the core experience is there. Once they iron out all the wrinkles that keep the game from functioning as it should, I think it'll be a good game.
