Fallout 76 is an empty soulless pitiful excuse of a Fallout game that should've never come to be in the first place. Bethesda showed with Fallout 4 they we're pushing for a direction where they forced the players hands in the story but now this is far FAR worse than anyone of us could've anticipated. I really REALLY wanted 76 to be good, I've been wanting coop fallout for years now but Bethesda completely misinterpreted what the customers wanted here. When we wanted fallout multiplayer we meant a co-op option for the story, not a bunch of people running around the world doing their own thing. And even the story for this game is at best mediocre. Linear side quests that tell you to find this to get this or find this to kill this. Even the main story has you following a pattern of find me here, find me here, find me here and they're never there! Fallout was meant to be a open world RPG with in depth story and lore. This game feels like they put in 1/8th the work compared to previous titles. The game lacks freedom of choice beyond finding a quest and doing it, previous titles gave you options to have a morale compass of good bad or neutral before 4 but since then it's been a problem that only became bigger in this title. The world feels like it's empty and souless like they finished world building and said whatever to the rest of it and dropped some enemies in and robot vendors. Fallout 76 along with Diablo Immortal show how disconnected game production companies have pushed away the fans in the pursuit of money.

    Verdict;
Go spend your hard earned money on something that isn't full retail early access garbage. Pick up a copy of RDR2, Witcher 3 or hell, if this is your first fallout game go pick up 3 or NV and you'll truly understand how awful of a job Bethesda did.

Story wise, it's very slow to get started, and the holotapes are boring for the first hour or two, but once the story gets going and the more interesting characters show up it is a very enjoyable story.

I, like many others play Fallout however for the exploration. And i can say they have nailed this, the differentiation of areas across Appalachia are just breathtaking and i'm still loving the exploration and finding new places despite having been all over.

Gameplay is goof, with some issues mainly PvP needing a lot of work.

Graphics are good, not Arma3 . RDR2 levels, but they're good.

I've had a blast playing this both alone and with a team of 3, and honestly, for the £30 i got this for, it's been worth every penny, i'd happily have paid full price if i knew i would enjoy it this much.

Don't ignore the haters, read what they have to say, because the game is flawed, but i see a bright future for it.

It's ironic in that a game that was advertised as having no NPCs, Bethesda has managed to make characters I care about and want to see more from, whereas in their other titles, I get fed up with their shallow writing and context-free voice acting.

It's also run cleaner than any other Bethesda title at launch. While the beta had some hiccups, it's a far cry from the constant missing textures of Fallout 3, the crashes to desktop of Fallout 4, and the regular framerate drops of Skyrim.

I also appreciate that while they could have pursued a system that encouraged "whales," the play experience for someone who just bought the base game is as complete as someone who buys every cosmetic microtransaction. Also so far, I've been able to earn every microtransaction I thought was interesting.

It's also the only Bethesda Fallout title that I feel really understood the core of what made the Interplay/Black Isle Fallouts work politically. It's very charged, with strong statements about the nature of the world.

First of all, its a buggy mess.
The world feels so empty without NPC's and the endgame (or the lack of it) is a joke.

Player interactions really make this game what it is. The design encourages players to work together or sometimes fight each other for factories in order to gain resources. This makes many encounters tense when meeting a new player. On the road it is a little more safe, with other players having little benefit from attacking you. Until you shoot back they do almost no damage which prevents griefing. It's a weird approach but works rather with their implementation.

There's been a certain allure to the game I didn't expect. Every day at work I've been itching to get back on to explore, build up my character, improve my camp, improve synergy with friends, collect new guns and outfits, etc. There's a lot of interesting places to discover and stories to listen to if you're willing to take the time. I feel like it's one of those games that if you just watch others play or read the reviews, you really wont understand the essence of the game.

he game has bugs, lots of them. But, so did all of the other Bethesda games. It's about time for Bethesda to create a new engine and stop relying on their buggy Skyrim/Fallout engine. This game can be played solo, but flourishes in Multiplayer. The problem is that players don't seem to have the courage or ability to interact with strangers. In my experience, strangers were nothing but friendly. I have not had one negative experience when reaching out to other players.

Fallout 76 seems to combine all of the good aspects of the previous fallout games, including some quality of life features that came from the modding community. While many may criticize this, it shows that Bethesda is listening to us, to the good and the bad. My suggestion is to give the game a shot and be open-minded. This is not Fallout 5. This was meant to be a new experience and bashing a game for bringing us out of our comfort zone is not fair.

Bethesda has already shown that they want to fix these bugs. They aren't sweeping it under the rug. The game does not feel lonely, it is full of immersion. It's been a while since I've been able to play a game for several hours at a time and be so engrossed that I lose track of time.

After sinking sixty something hours into the game, I can say it’s a good first attempt at an online multiplayer game. Yes, it still uses the Creation Engine but not the same one used for Fallout 4 or Skyrim due to the engine improvements such as all new rendering lighting and landscaping technology; that allows for sixteen times the detail, and yes you can visually see the difference between Fallout 76 and Fallout 4. Such as the glossiness on the golden strips on the Vault Suit that was not present in Fallout 4.

Now Fallout 76 isn’t the prettiest game released this year or this decade, but it is by far the prettiest Bethesda Game Studios Game released today.

Leveling Up in this game has been refined from Fallout 4’s perk chart, I especially like the fact that I can switch out my perk cards when I’m playing with my friends to allow for greater team play, however, I’m not so much of fan of the fact that your special stops increasing after reaching Level 50 but there are adding the ability allowing you to respec your characters special in latter update
    sometime after launch.

The Appalachia Wasteland is truly the biggest most diverse wasteland we’ve seen to date allowing players to capture some truly amazing screenshots. Yet due to the immense scale of the Appalachia Wasteland and lack of human NPC populating hubs, towns the world seems oddly empty but not completely empty due to the questing give robots found throughout the world such as Rose or the
other players exploring the world along with you.

The microtransactions in Fallout 76 aren’t an issue due to them literally throwing Atoms at you for playing the game and completing challenges. So what do buy with these microtransactions well it’s all cosmetic items that offer no gameplay advantages at all to the players of the game. These microtransactions are also paying for all the DLC the game will have post-launch allowing Bethesda Softworks to make all DLC free not splitting up the player base.

I myself haven’t participated in any PVP in Fallout 76 as of yet but have had some of my loot stolen.

The story isn’t the best story featured in a Bethesda Studio Game, but it isn’t too bad either. The endgame isn’t the worst nor the best but launching them nukes is pretty fun and challenging. When one is launched players have two minutes to leave the blast area, but one is fired most players come over to the edge of the blast radius to watch the nuke detonate. Don’t worry about players firing nukes every twenty minutes as Bethesda have thought about this every Tuesday the launch codes reset and need to be decrypted once again from a new word and different numbers, and players aren’t allowed to nuke the starting area.

Crafting has been reworked in Fallout 76 where players now need to find plans that allow players to build new gear giving you an edge over enemies that are just above your current level. Not only do you need to find plans you also need to find the resources to craft this new gear once you’ve learnt the plan, however, the stash limit is currently restricting my crafting progression slightly, but this issue is being addressed with an update sometime this month.

So all in all Fallout 76 isn’t a great Fallout game but is a good action-adventure game on your own but is a great action-adventure game when playing with friends.

Fallout 76 is not what I expected from my initial purchase. The game seems like it is a last gen title. A downgrade not an upgrade. It seems bethesda knows only how to make single player games. Stick to their other titles. I have not even seen an official apology from bethesda but hopefully some ammends can be made as paying full price for a last gen game is not fair.

Granted, I've always prioritized exploration and looting over lore in this series. Even so, little touches in some audio logs and notes paint a haunting picture at times, in between all the retro future camp. Speaking of camps the C.A.M.P system is flawed but fun with room to grow, letting you save several iterations of bases to plop down on most parts of the world with plans to find to unlock more items.

I also really like the trading card Perk system. Being able to swap cards in and out as needed and building a character based on what you have on hand is a pretty fresh mechanic.

The world boasts some unique places that are, in my view, a step up from Fallout 4 in terms of variety. Fleeing the new scorched enemies only to find myself on a nearly pristine green golf course guarded by military robots that provided me cover fire was one such memorable area.

I rated a 7 because, in the end, it still has the usual Bethesda bugs and engine limitations. But personally I'm getting my money's worth.

Bethesda doesn't seem to be the developers we recognize anymore because of corporate greed and money hungry idiots in the game industry. If the next Fallout game follows what 76 is right now. I will totally not bother playing it. Obsidian should handle the franchise more than Bethesda Game Studios either because Todd Howard's mind has turned twisted or he is really scooping the influence of modern video games that have microtransactions (eg. Black Ops, Fortnite). Clearly Obsidian made their Fallout Game, Fallout New Vegas a masterpiece because it was different and not cliched compared to Bethesda. Bethesda Game Studios should diversify the ways we can play Fallout games like what Obsidian achieved. The Fanbase should really admit to what their favourite game developers are doing, which is backstabbing them. And overshadowing the greed that they possess. Expand

Fallout 76 is Fallout, and it isn't Fallout at the same time. And for all the hype around the multiplayer, both friend and foe, it seems inconsequential most of the time. Just passer-bys on the street more often than not, it's there but it doesn't matter. It's a fun game, but I don't think it's going to be a timeless classic I return to time and time again years from now once I feel I've had enough.

I found this game to be a diamond in the rough. It's the most fun I've had in a long time. If you like Fallout and the setting of post apocalyptic games, you then realize that it isn't a tropical paradise and finding treasure is a slim encounter. If you love to explore/loot/craft, this is an amazing game.

This game is certainly much better than No Man's Sky which also got slammed hard by the community, but certainly wasn't a total flop.

There are some crap games out there, but very few deserving of a "0" score, This one is way better than most give it credit for.

If you aren't sure, wait for a sale. Definitely not a flop and improvements are on the way. I say if you like Fallout, give it a fair chance. I'm glad I did.

Same bugs found in Fallout 4 is apparently also found in this game. If the game was bug free and had good performance I would perhaps have given this game a 4-5.

This game is a slap in the face for most Fallout fans and it really shows on the review scores and the majority of YouTube videos. When they first announced this game I was really hoping for a Dying Light clone. A full Single Player experience with the ability to play Co-op with others if you wanted. But now we are left with this Pre-Acress mess of a game.

    + Ion Zur's ambient music.
+ It is a big world with lots of things to discover (Too bad its dead)
+ Might be fun for a while if you have good friends to play co-op with.

    - Microtransactions (The only thing that is working in the game, HAH!!!)
    - Very buggy
    - Bad performance
    - While the graphics are ok at times it is still an old engine that is far behind other games.
    - Removing the Npc: s was a bad idea. Even if you occasionally meet other players the world still feels very empty.
    - Bad A. I and enemy respawn rate is way too fast.
    - PVP is badly done and optimized.
    - Quests mostly consist of audiotapes.
    - Abandon STEAM complaining Valve taking too much money. Bethesda is launching there own game service and still taking full price anyway, YAY
    - This game is meant to be played co-op with friends and quickly gets very bored alone.
    -Bad PC port.

After chewing on this crap sandwich for over three days and building a character to level 20 I had to spit it out and walk away. I just can't lie to myself any longer. This game is terrible! It's not even a game. It honestly reminds me of when I was a child and saved up $30-$40 to buy a new nintendo game only to get stuck with a total bomb that was completely unplayable. Everything bad you have read or heard about this game is true. I spent hours getting settlements set up only to be disconnected when servers crashed and lost everything.

    Quest bugs are everywhere!
Load times are worse than Fallout 4 in survival mode!
    Loot storage caps are unbearable!
    PVP is a total joke!
The game is WAY too easy
Quest from holo tapes is annoying and unrewarding

Everything bad you have heard and more are true. I honestly think all the good reviews are written by staff members and share holders. Don't waste $60 on this game please. I wasted $120 because I bought it on PS4 and Xbox1 because oh yeah, you can't play with friends across platforms either. And another $59.99 to renew my PS4 Online pass, so I'm $180 in the hole for this abomination. If you really think you want to try this game just wait a few more weeks and you can buy !0,000 copies of it used at Gamestop in a few weeks for $2.99 because everyone is going to try to get whatever money they can back before it"s too late to sell it.

If this game had been released as a disk based title with no way to update it online like games used to be made, there would be riots in stores with people demanding their money back! How can a "game studio" release such an epic title in such horrible condition? Yes, we all want the newest version of the games we love but WTF were they thinking they could cram this down our throats and we would just eat it? Don't give me the "this is a beta" or "it's only opening week" BS!!! Bethesda thinks they are going to reboot, repackage, copy and paste another title with a new map and rob their customers and fans of million of dollars!

I'm sure hundreds of people worked their asses off to get this game "ready" for release but SERIOUSLY?!?!?! You knew this game wasn't even close to being ready and you pushed it out anyway. Now they are saying they are getting review bombed. Well guess what? I wouldn't have time to write this review if YOU HADN'T DROPPED THIS FLAMING PILE OF SH!T ON ME!!!! I would be spending countless hours enjoying a game I loved, playing online with my friends like you told us we could. But i'm not, cause when we get a group together, we keep getting dropped cause the servers keep crashing and reloading.

I should really be thanking Bethesda for curing me of this addiction to Fallout. If this game had been half as good as previous versions I would have spent thousands of hours playing online instead of spending time with my wife and kid. But after 20 hours of ignoring them and TRYING to like this game, I just can't do it. I would rather sit with my wife and watch The Bachelor or some other God Awful show on the Oprah network.

The game play, bugs and glitches and graphics issues aside is just horrible. The card system is pretty cool but you get random cards and have no way to "build a character" like you usually do in a fallout game. Imagine leveling up in Fallout 4 and just spinning a wheel to see what perk you get next. Oh WOW i just looted an awesome weapon, too bad I have to be level 30 to equip it. I'll just save it for later but oh wait, my stash is already full cause I can't craft anything useful till I find some plans for a GD weapon that I already looted 400 times and broke down for parts! I guess I'll just go kill another 10,000 scorched that keep re-spawning in my face every ten seconds and hope one of them drops something useful. NOPE just another A-D block, that's f-ing useful if Shawn was still a kid not a senior citizen. Building your own camp is kinda cool, till the server resets and you lose everything you built and have to start over. Taking a settlement for resources is great, till you logout and lose your progress. Or you invest tons of resources into it and some massive mob attacks it while your trying to complete a timed quest and destroys everything and you can't rebuild cause I'm out of junk!

This game should have never been released in this condition. It can't be fixed with patches that are bigger than the original version of the game. It is flawed from the ground up and needed years more of work to make it playable. Bethesda has lost all credibility and I will never give them another dime. How they thought they could fool hardcore gamers is beyond me.

    PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

I would tell you more but that's my 5000 words

This game is neither terrible enough to deserve a 0, nor is it anywhere near good enough to deserve a 10.

Put simply, it's Fallout 4 in a far-less apocalyptic setting, where you have no relationship of any kind with in-world characters. It's basically the experience you get when you wander ruins in FO4, which is fine in moderation, but it gets really old when it's the only experience available.

Everything is holotapes, fetch quests, killing anonymous NPCs, and finding people's corpses. Everything.

Worse, the tech in the game is barely upgraded from Fallout 4, which is a serious problem when you consider that Fallout 4 itself was technologically dated, not to mention very buggy.

Worse still, most of the well-known bugs in Fallout 4 persist in this brand new game, except this time, we can't mod them out when Bethesda is too lazy to do it themselves.

Worst of all, many of these bugs blend in with an extremely-naive server/client architecture that will see people exploiting the game, cheating and griefing to their heart's contents, because almost no forethought seems to have been put into the idea that the client is enemy territory and you must not trust anything coming from it. Instead, almost all game state appears to be done client-side and synchronized periodically with the server via "checkpoints", which appear simply to be savegames sent to the server instead of the hard drive.

This game is a horrendous mess in terms of technology, and the hubris of Bethesda in thinking they could push out yet another barely-modded version of their engine into an ONLINE MULTIPLAYER space without having to put actual work into it is just mind-boggling to me. That's all to say nothing of their stubborn refusal to admit that PC players don't all have 16:9 1080p displays.

Speaking of multiplayer, the ludicrous choice to ship on PC with always-on voice chat, rather than push-to-talk, is a staggeringly-bad idea. Unlike console players, a lot of PC players use built-in mics, not clever directional mics on their headset that live two inches from the player's mouth, so you'll be walking around your wasteland hearing people eat, argue, watch TV, constantly clack their mechanical keyboards, etc., and it will utterly ruin your immersion.

Also speaking of multiplayer, the PvP has been utterly gutted. For me, a PvE fan, it's not a big deal, but if you're a PvP fan, save your money, it's just going to be frustrating and boring. The game should have shipped with a per-character flag, set during creation, that would shuffle you to one or the other set of servers, each with either a PvE ruleset or a PvP ruleset. This attempt to force the two together is totally built out of fail.

Bethesda's response to almost all criticism is stubborn refusal to listen. There's a reddit thread where they "respond" to our "beta" feedback, requests, and criticism and it's almost entirely "yeah, we hear ya, but nah." The game's first patch, which was the full size of the original game by the way, has almost nothing worthy of mention.

Oh, and lest I forget: the balance is all over the place. Sometimes, you can fight an enemy twice your level and it's a pushover, and sometimes you're the pushover fighting something your own level. I really feel like the game simply wasn't finished and they shipped it anyway. Given how short the "beta' was, I feel very strongly this was the case.

The only upside here is that there's a little bit of Fallout lore to be discovered, and if you're a Fallout fan, then you want to discover that lore. Mind you, a lot of it seems to be convenient retcons and/or riddled with continuity errors that are just blatantly inappropriate for the time frame and location in the universe. Still, there's some fun to be had discovering the minimal story in the main quest and I'm okay with doing that.

So yeah, it's a 4 from me. If you're a fan, get it some time if it's on deep sale and play the main quest for the lore. And hope that by then they've fixed the bugs. But it's Bethesda, and their track record of fixing bugs is almost non-existent, so... good luck with that.

Bethesda should have simply made a co-op version of the original Fallout 4. That's what people actually wanted and asked for. Not this.

I have enjoyed the changes from the Fallout 4 recipe, making food and water required as well as bringing back weapon condition.
I would highly recommend playing with friends, otherwise you might as well be playing Fallout 3/NV/4 instead.
The areas and enemies are diverse and unique as compared to other games.

I feel it is worth reiterating that this is not Fallout 5, you can read basically any other review to see why you might be disappointed from that perspective. I applaud Bethesda for trying to break the mold and make something unique, even if the end result isn't perfect.

The future of this game will all depend on how Bethesda responds to player feedback.

This world is HUGE. If you look at the map I have spent hours in the areas around Vault 76 and Flatwood. Looking at the Map you'll see what I covered is maybe a 4th of the map. There is a LOT left to see.

Gameplay is smooth, feels like a Halfway Survival mode of Fallout 4. You have Food and Water meters and there's disease and germs and rads to deal with, food is also no longer permanently safe, but spoils over time. The mutations are interesting, was weird suddenly having a ridiculously high intelligence.

The world feels very much alive. There was a lot of concern that the world would feel "empty" because of the no human NPCs. I never got this feeling. There is a little bit of a feel of tragedy if you're playing completely alone, but it's akin to I Am Legend type of feeling, not a "This isn't a real place anymore." You emerge to find EVERYONE has died, some as recently as a few days. Finding out why is one of the major drives of the story. But finding them, finding their notes, their holo-tapes, seeing what they were trying to accomplish. You get a sense of tragedy and sadness, but it never once felt empty. Combine that with the abundance of Robots, Super Mutant Vendors, etc and it's a real world. Once I feel a definite pull to try and rebuild and save.

Factions: I wasn't sure how I'd feel about there being Factions when every non PC Human is dead. I thought it'd feel weird. Instead it lets you feel more heroic. When I found the Responders I got to feel like a hero. "These people stood for something, their loss is tragic but I can make sure their mission goes forward."

The C.A.M.P. is a blast, I'm loving that you can literally build anywhere you want, no more working in the boundaries of a defined settlement. I also love that I can move it, so if I find a cooler spot I'm not stuck starting over. (Looking at you first time I found the Lighthouse after I had spent ten+ hours on Sanctuary.)

Leveling is fun and intuitive. I love that we can pick and choose and swap our abilities around. It's silly but it's fun that I can work to have different builds available depending on what I'm doing.

    Bad Thoughts.
The Speed you burn through Food and Water and the speed food goes bad feels a little bit over tuned. I don't have issues with it but I do find it a bit "What, already?" Sometimes when you go to eat something and see it bad.

Combining the Tutorial with the Responder's Lore and Story will make the game somewhat tedious when you make new characters. I really enjoyed hearing about these people's lives after the bombs and how they were trying to help people. I didn't need to hear long drawn out explanations on why you should boil water.

Bugs: I have not experienced any of the really bad bugs I've heard others talk about (Invisible enemies, gear vanishing, etc). But I have had the slowing issue where you just lock in place and sit there for thirty seconds while the servers catch up.

All in all I feel like I'm in a world that's suffered devastation, but the tools are there to rebuild, to avoid those mistakes, to make a better world. Which is what I wanted back when I was first told what 76 was going to be.

The game has its bugs, but it plays great. The lore is integrated into the world perfectly. People just like to complain because it is not exactly what they want. This game matches the creators vision perfectly and my friends and I all enjoy this greatly.

The entire premise of the game is that there are NO NPCs, people then get mad that there are none. I don't get it, it's online Fallout 11/10

Somehow, this is the least buggy Bethesda game I've ever played at launch. That probably has something to do with the fact there are no NPC's in the game though. I regret buying this game, but I needed to see it for my own eyes. Another point to back this up: a majority of the assets in the game are from fallout 4 and 76s files are even compatible with fallout 4, don't know about you guys but that's seems extremely lazy to me.The file structure is also the same, that is why some people were able to make mods so easily. I do not know why Bethesda, thought that it is a good idea to leave the chose of whether a player participates in multiplayer mode to the good nature of other players (are you kidding me). I could comment on other issues, but anything related to technical issues or comparison to other version, I will reserve for other commenters. What Bethesda have done, is seen the recent trend towards crafting survival games, cobbled together a map and a multiplayer mod under the Fallout 4 engine, and bundled what should have been a $10 DLC into a full game.

What backstory there is, is sparse and lacks any kind of draw.

The introduction of the "scorched" is clearly just a case of needing an in-universe reason to include the zombies every other crafting survival game has, without actually referring to them as zombies, because they couldnt just reuse the ghouls.

Nuke codes, on the other hand, stink of hastily bolted in end-game/raid mechanic to appease the needs of anyone who actually manages to stick with the game long enough to need an end game mechanic.

The enemies are pretty lackluster, and boring.

The Vats system is so watered down, its pointless. The Special system, Isnt.

The camp system takes the FO 4 outpost system and turns it into a money sink of a portable crafting system that no one with half a brain has any reason or inclination to use.

In a game where the greatest "risk" is loosing 10-20mins of progress to one of the games intermittent, unpredictable server hiccups, it shouldn't come as any surprise that the "reward" is similarly lackluster.

If you're looking for a multiplayer crafting/survival game, try 7 days to die or rust for a much better experience.

If you're looking for Fallout, this isnt it. If it wasnt for the skins, music and Bethesda's marketting budget, this would just be another in a long line of really shoddy "to avoid" early access titles that no one would bother playing any more.

At best, its a fallout 4 expansion, and you should steer well clear till its priced accordingly.

The game is a lot of fun with friends and alone (I play both), but the main issue after 25 hours of game are the bugs and mediocre PC port. It does not really impact the game but it can be a pain.

Let's try to get away from the imagined and or real Bethesda hate and let's take a look why this game is...well, i am sorry to say that because i was really looking forward to this one: ****

    - As survival game this game is a bad joke. Every survival game out there is better and deeper.
    - As Fallout it failed because, no matter how often the always same people repeat it, it is just no Fallout.
    - The enviromental story telling works for 30 minutes. At some point the "go find him/her! Oh he/she is dead" quests get old....which is....right after the first one to be honest.
    - exploring get's boring too pretty fast because there is nothing to explore. All those empty locations and all you get is another holo tape or note.
    - bugs. lots of them.
    - bad mechanics that doesn't fit togehter. Want to build with a friend? oh sorry your building areas are overlapping. get off my lawn.
    - no push to talk or text chat. I mean really? that's 2018 and not 1818.
    - PvP....just....lol.

FO76 trys to cater to a couple of different genres. Survival, RPG and (kind of) Battle royal.
The issue is...it is sub sub sub par in all of them. Adding different puddles doesn't make a good game.

That said, fo76 has a lot of potential. If Bethesda will pick um on this only time will tell. If yes, i will come back and re-rate the game.

    EDIT1:

So, today is the first patch after release. Let's see if the performance improvments will help me to be able to play again.

    EDIT2:
Yeah....well: the patch was more a 15GB hotfix. I admit the game became more stable, but there are still hiccups and lagging as soon as there are more than 2 people around or too much buildings standing in the way. Something that shouldn't happen on a high end rig with fibre internet.

I was able to play 45 minutes before i got bored. The enviormental storytelling just doesn't cath me.
The pseudo-persistence starts to annoy me as well. 3rd time i built a base. 3rd time, while i was offline, another player built on or close to my spot. 3rd time i found my base in my backpack. That' s just annoying. Why is this a thing at all? Other "survival" games can handle full persistence aswell.

It's unlikely that i will play again before a major patch hits FO76. There are other games out there waiting to be played that do not test my patience in the way FO76 does. Non the less, the game is (kinf of) working now. So i will change my vote from 0 to 1.

    4. Seems at times too easy.
    5. Game feels a empty often.

I still like the game. My Co-oP review is an 8 ... but I am a fan of the franchise. If I was single player I'd say a 7 right now.

Long term outlook I am holding out for content patches and private servers.

Throughout that whole time no matter how much I enjoyed the game there was always one looming threat on the horizon, bugs and glitches.
I don't review this game poorly because I absolutely hate the game in its entirety, but the fact that every single Bethesda game has been a buggy mess that has had the support of the amazing community propping it up. That with the fact that most of the assets for the game were just ported over from Fallout 4, this feels like the Dark Souls Remastered (old cliche) of the Fallout series. The game itself doesn't add much from 4 besides the multiplayer aspect (as with DS R). That with the fact that the game barely runs compounded with the $60 price tag is pretty horrendous. I am just another voice in the crowd, but my complaints have their merits. This is a game that should have been half price to be even considered for purchase on launch. I do think that they can improve the game to a worthy standard, but the fact they released it in this state hasn't been seen since New Vegas.

If you review this game as a multiplayer survival game, it gets very high marks. If you review this as a single player Fallout game, it gets a much more mediocre score.

The big deal here is this: If you are after a multiplayer Co-Op survival game: get this game.

If you focus on PvP, be wary: there's not a whole lot to do, yet.

If you are only interested in this game because you've liked the previous fallouts, and have no interest in the multiplayer aspects, be wary.

Gameplay as a multiplayer survival Co-Op game:

This gets an 85/100. Higher once they sort bugs, balance and PC QOL issues. It is however an overpriced 85 compared to the rest of the genre, which usually costs 40USD.

Based on a comparison to other online survival co-op games, Fallout 76 is already a better game in most respects than a close competitor, like ARK: Survival Evolved, and that's even accounting for the buggy launch. The teamplay aspects are much more enjoyable, the combat is better, the loot, crafting and leveling system is far better, and the voice acting, quests, public events, and anti-griefing systems leave the game in the dust.

Graphically, the game is more impressive, more stable, and less GPU hungry than ARK, which has been around for years - and that's even accounting for the fact that with the buggy Bethesda-style launch, Fallout 76 isn't amazingly stable.

In fact, the only systems where ARK beats Fallout 76 is availability of pvp (even though ARK arguably has too much, and no anti-griefing), and the lack of "pet" content. The base building is much more limited in size than in ARK, but has about five times the depth, and is vastly more accessible.

This is in comparison to a game with a 70% metacritic score, 7.7 on ign, and mostly positive recent reviews on steam.

From a pvp standpoint, I could see people finding it disappointing, as there isn't a whole lot of it, but as a player who detested the free-for-all gigantic raid tribe meta of ARK, it's extremely refreshing for a developer to not allow it to taint the rest of the game. Bethesda has teased faction based pvp in the future however, so it remains to be seen if Fallout 76.

You can make other comparisons to similar games like Rust or Conan Exiles, which are valid as well: but the result is the same: if you want a questing/co-op experience inside a multiplayer survival game, this is top of the pile.

Gameplay as a single player title: this gets a 65/100.

As a single player game, it's a quite fun RPG with good leveling, loot, crafting: and reasonably good graphics, but a bit lacking in story, and also overpriced.

It is let down by a bizarre choice to waste hours of recorded (well acted) voice/dialogue on holotapes and robots, and inexplicably not have any human NPCs to deliver it. There are so many quests that feel like an NPC is giving you radio updates already, but for whatever reason they've decided to theme it all as found-footage/epistolary storytelling: and there does not appear to be much reasoning for it all.

As a standard entry to the fallout series judged only on those merits, it comes across as kind of mediocre.

    Graphics:

Graphically, since it is intended for multiplayer, it doesnt provide as striking visuals as those of single player games. Players hoping for a RDR2 level of graphical fidelity will find it lacking, but it stands up well against other multiplayer games.

    Bugs:

    Fallout 76 is buggy.

There are some minor bugs, some major bugs and some exploits of varying degrees.

Less than a week after launch bethesda is already fixing some big ones - like upping the FPS cap to 144FPS, and fixing bases getting deconstructed on log off. There are also some balance issues with some weapons like lasers and miniguns doing super low damage, eating through ammo quickly and breaking extremely fast.

These bugs are annoying, frustrating and, to some extent inexcusable. But they're also a bit of a reality with game development these days. If Bethesda can keep at fixing these things rapidly, they will repair the harm that the bugs are currently causing to the game's reputation.

    Conclusion:

Fallout 76 is a multiplayer survival game: as that, it's a success, if a bit buggy on launch. If you insist on reviewing a multiplayer survival game as a single player offline game, it will be disappointing. Either way it's a bit overpriced in either category, but if you review it for what it is, a multiplayer Co-Op game: It's extremely enjoyable.

What on earth did I just play, and WHY DID I WASTE MY MONEY ON IT!?
I LOVE Bethesda games, I have ALL of them, back to the beginning in DOS. Fallout 76, on the other hand, is a horrible oozing puss filled blister on the rear end of Bethesda's great game history.
The wonderful mechanics from Fallout 4 are gone and replaced with a glitchy copy-cat; there's nothing like Scorchbeasts

The wonderful mechanics from Fallout 4 are gone and replaced with a glitchy copy-cat; there's nothing like Scorchbeasts following you indefinitely even though you're using stealthboys and sneaking. That's right, even if you're hidden, the BEAST will still follow you and won't stop until you either kill it of get horribly mangled by the extremely OP bastardization. Why is there even a dragon in Fallout?!!!!? WRONG TITLE BETHESDA!!!

The crafting menus are horrible and the mechanics of building your own base are equally as bad. Extremely limited crafting options, clunky inaccurate maps, boring lifeless quests, difficult to navigate terrain and to top it all off, a storage cap! So at some point you have to start trashing your beloved loot and even crafting supplies just to be able to WALK because you're only allowed 400lbs of "My Stash" storage.

I'm so angry i'm going to go burn a copy of the game files to CD so I can put them in the microwave and watch them burn. Bethesda, you f^&*ed up this time.

Says it was Fallout. Isn't Fallout. Total scam.
Instead of an online Fallout game, you get a total trainwreck of a game. A trainwreck that is not even interesting to stare at. Broken physics, broken balance, broken world, lifeless and devoid of any meaningful content. And it all runs on grandmas old engine that already looked outdated and odd when Fallout 3 came out. Bethesda is done.

Expand

The proof is in the pudding. This is a 100% exploitative cash grab. Simple look at the first texture of a prewar object outside of the vault, and compare it the same object from Fallout 4 (you will have no trouble finding one in both games). Despite this 180+ year difference, both objects will look the exact same. This is minor nit-picky gripe, but the fact that Bethesda could not even be bothered with making small alterations to the per-existing textures ripped straight from Fallout 4, pretty much sums up what you can expect from them as far as the major things go. Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]
