This is what I was expecting - Fallout 4 with multi player! Playing with friends is fun! Much more fun than RDR2 where... well .. you can't play with friends at the moment ;)

And than... You hear voices men that lives in world after the End. You read messages from past. You try to study some new recipes and create something better than firing pump. But first of all you planning your bild. Because you don't know what fights will be in future. And good idea with guls can become big mistake with miners.

No tanks no heals no classes. Just war at shards of world. And this world is alive.

p.s. review form guy that many-many years ago played in Fallout 1 demo :)
p.p.s. Yeah! I have cool musket now! And I killed deathclaw with it.
    p.p.p.s. And there is at least one non-aggressive NPC - supermutant-trader :)

So lets talk about what this game isn't since I feel people had expectations that weren't met. If you want a high risk pvp game like Rust or Ark where getting killed, raided and eventually wiped is 100% expected and you love the thrill of trying to be alpha tribe before you get wiped, this game is not for you.

If you want a traditional fallout game where you interact with interesting NPCs and make thoughtful choices, this game isn't for you either.

So who is this game for and why the hell did I give it a 10? If you want a mix between DayZ and Mist this game is for you. It's honestly perfect for me and my boyfriend. I LOVE games like Rust and Ark, but he wont play them with me because he hates putting so much time and effort into something only to get raided in the end. I have little interest in a co-op Fallout 4 because who's choices would matter?

This game is seriously awesome, it combines sandbox elements with a really rich story. It's just a different type of story. You emerge from vault 76 only 25 years after the war. The government filled vault 76 and other early release vaults with the best and brightest the USA had to offer because we're the ones that have to rebuild and shape the world for the future vaults. After being released you interact with a few robots that point you in a direction and you go. You find out that people who weren't able to secure safety in a vault did survive after the bombs dropped, you find their camps, diaries and holotapes talking about everything from dangerous radiation levels in the water to mutated monsters, plagues and maybe even aliens (not sure if that's actually a thing or just a crazy person rambling). The tapes are awesome because you can listen to them while rummaging around collecting stuff.

You try to drink the water and you get rads, you try to eat the food and you get rads. You try to collect the water to boil it, and you still get rads but less so. They don't cure over time, and Radaway is sparce and you can't craft it (at least at first, not sure if you can later). You start listening to these tapes and the survivors testing the water and trying to figure out how to purify it and you have to pick up where they left off if you hope to survive long term. That's the reality of being the first ones out of a vault, no town to buy purified water in. You have to figure out how to purify it so there can be towns and factions in the future.... as well as looking into super mutant threats, plagues, aliens and other crazy rumors that could end human life as we know it. Just because the story doesn't handhold you or tell you how awesome and invaluable your character is every 15 minutes doesn't mean there isn't a rich story for you to uncover on your own.

Obviously there's monster hunting, treasure maps, air drops, crafting, perks and skills and other cool stuff. You can build a camp but it logs out with you for the night so you can only get raided while online (even then you have a chest that only you can access, additional storage people can loot though). You know what though, that's a nice change of pace. It's a game, I can't be on 24/7. The community actually seems nice, people are intentionally leaving things in lootable chests to help others along. Don't get me wrong I LOVE games like Ark and Rust, I've got 600+ hours in each on official servers... but I also like to be able to sleep easy when I log out and I like playing games with my boyfriend so this is fun in it's own right and the first game of it's kind.

I also love a deeply rich story, I love the previous fallout games. I've played through the Mass Effect Trilogy so many times it's unreal. I don't need to become leader of every guild and have NPCs stare at me in awe though. I don't always need to be the center of the universe, sometimes it's cool to just be a part of it and make it what you will.

TLDR; if you want Fallout 5 Co-Op, this is not for you. If you want DayZ, this is not for you. If you want something in the middle of those that you can convince your PvP shy friends and family to play, this is perfect for you.

Asset flipped AAA-priced game with exceptionally expensive micro-transactions . Main story is barely a story just follow 5-minute long holotapes that you can't pause and get interrupted, servers that lack any sort of security. Still using a Engine that was developed 2 decades ago. This game is not a game it's a cash grab stay away.

No push to talk, no chat interface, many other little things that should be their and aren't. Maybe now that the game has released that has changed. But I won't be finding out I canceled my pre order. Perhaps in a year or two they will have done enough with this game to justify me spending my money. But until then I will not be playing this sad pathetic excuse for a fallout game. Expand

Cannot say the same about Fallout 76... No NPC's, awful retcons that only exist for brand recognition rather than elaborate world building, beautiful yet empty world, every bit of lore is presented via holotapes, robots or terminals, essentially denying any chance for emotional connection to be created.
Every location is empty simply because LITERALLY everything to do with that location is a fragment of the past (3 lore conveyors mentioned earlier).
Now lets get to the gameplay.
Game is pathetically easy, you can start exploring everything at low levels and have no troubles against enemies 3-4 times your level, simply move back and shoot, but don't be disappointed when you can't use the loot you get, because items are LEVEL based.
My biggest issue with the game is that it has no point, it is literally No Mans Sky.
You get out of the vault, do fetch quests, listen to 5 minute long holotapes, kill terrible AI, explore a very empty world, build a base because its a feature, not because its rewarding in any way and just look at the most beautiful location a Fallout game is set in and just wonder how Bethesda could make it worse than Fallout 4.
Did I mention that the most polished feature in the game is the microtransaction store? Let that sink in.

Come on guys, this is beyond a joke. It's multiplayer game that wants you to play with others and yet there is no incentive what so ever to do so. Forget the ps2 graphics, bugs, 0 NPCs, terrible gun play etc etc etc. This game literally fails at its core. What's funny is the audacity to actually implement micro transactions. Literally taking the consumer for huge joke.

I resent the money I have spent on this as Bethesda simply do not deserve it for the shell of a game this is - it is almost like a picture puzzle where someone has just completed the outside edge and then thought `job done` and left the center empty.
Just simply bloody awful and a disservice to the Fallout name.
Do yourself a favour and DO NOT BUY FALLOUT 76.

Crafting is taken from Fallout 4 and made worse. The survival mechanics are taken from Fallout 4 and made worse. Combat is taken from Fallout 4 and made worse, most egregiously in the form of neutering VATS. VATS used to be the cornerstone of several incredible builds, from the crit-based pistoleer to the sneaky Blitz-based melee type, teleporting from mob to mob without exposing yourself to undue danger.

Aside from removing playstyles and dumbing down combat, all storytelling has been reduced to audiologs. There are so many audiologs, you'll frequently get the next one before the previous one has even finished. It's the epitome of lazy writing. And, if you actually force yourself to suffer through the main story, you'll find that it never gets better.

So what do you actually *do* in Fallout 76? Walk around and collect herbs, mostly. You have to be constantly gathering because meats, vegetables and herbs spoil over time, so if you intend to use them for crafting or cooking, you need fresh ingredients. This boils the gameplay down to a really slow walk through the fields, quite literally picking flowers. One of the best/most reliable healing items can be crafted with two types of flowers and water... but one of those flowers only grows near streams and rivers. Guess what the map has very few of? You guessed it; streams and rivers. You're gonna get really familiar with the small handful of farming spots for specific pieces of loot.

Disappointing game, all things considered. It is more fun if you bring friends along, but that's not praise; it's condemnation. The game is a boring, mindless, tedious, grindy slog if you're trying to play solo.

    1/10 would not recommend.

    - No Ultrawide support on PC
    - The UI is tied to FOV. No slider because of this.
    - Poor servers that frequently disconnect.
    - Progress can be lost easily from server disconnects.
    - Uninspired story, given through lifeless audio logs (which can be several minutes long and cannot be paused)
    - VATs is completely broken and doesn't belong in the game at all, basically just an auto aim system that at best, snaps to enemies and at worst is immersion breaking and breaks the laws of physics to bend bullets.
    - Nonexistent anti-cheat/scripting protection
    - No push to talk, mics always on no matter what
    - Game isn't on Steam so you can't refund it AND you have to use Bethesda's launcher. Disgusting

The list goes on and on, this is just not an acceptable product at all. I love Fallout. This is a miserable excuse of a game. Thankfully, I didn't buy it!

I also made an account here to rate this game.

I've been playing videogames since Atari, and though I rarely play AAA titles, my wife has loved watching me play F3, NV & F4, and her sister & bf also love them. So even though we were all worried about "online only" we were excited to at least run around together.

This game is everything we feared it would be, except, amazingly, it's 10 times worse.

Every aspect of the game reeks of "rush job". or "we did no work". Everything.

--The UI does not work for "always on" gaming because when you're taking hits, you have no easy way to eat/drink/heal without going into the UI.

But dying has almost no penalty, so once you figure this out you can just respawn forever until you've killed all the monsters.

-As you've probably heard, there's using the same engine since Morrowind. How in the world can my PC, with a new GF2080, not get 60 FPS on this? On our GF 1080 machine, I had to put everything on LOW just to get it to start and not crash. HOW is this even possible??

--Try VATS once, then try to tell me any thought or consideration went into this game.. A: How can you allow this auto-aim crap for PvP? B: It's ridiculous to have the gun facing AWAY from an enemy, push VATS and SHOOT, and you hit your target.

--The way to initiate PvP is completely broken, because the attacked player has a huge advantage. P1 does almost no damage to P2 until P2 shoot backs. So P1 gets full damage. The only way PvP works is if you trick someone into shooting you first. But there's no incentive to use PvP at all in-game.

--Having the quests revolve around holotapes is insane, because you never have time to sit around and listen when you get them. Either you're going to find another soon, or a note to read, or you're hearing other people on the mic, or you're simply playing the game and can't focus on them. I tried giving the story a chance but the game just does not let you immerse yourself. It doesn't seem interesting anyway, though.

--Listen to the radio. A few new songs. THEN THE EXACT SAME SONGS YOU'VE HEARD FOR HOURS IN F4 ARE BACK. Lazy lazy LAZY. How hard is it to license new music for the setting of WV, if you didn't want to produce your own??

--Even the act of friending/joining someone else's game is confusing, because it's not intuitive or explained.

--People can't mod this & fix it. Thanks!

F76 is basically all the parts of F4 that were mindless grinds (like never-ending quest series, building crap) but worse.

I've been extremely disappointed by modern gaming "trends" ruining fantastic game series (e.g. MGSV, which is 80 hours of picking daises and about 2 hours of story) but this is the first time I'm kind of insulted by a game studio.
Here's the MAIN thing, and why this game is so disappointing.

There's a huge difference between a game that isn't very good, but is worth playing, and a game that is just completely banal, no fun, not creative, and not worth anyone's time.

Sonic 06 is an infamously bad game -- tons of glitches, comically bad controls, etc. -- but it has heart and some redeeming qualities (music, cutscenes, and it's semi-fun once you understand the meta of how to get around the truly terrible controls).

Lots of games are awful by objective standards, but once you get over their hurdles, can be enjoyable.

F76 is completely soulless, as many have described it. Outside of the expansive map (there isn't much to actually do in it that's fun) and recreating WV, it seems NO work, thought of planning went into this.

Bethesda knew they can sell it for $60, it'll make a profit, and all the people who review games for a living and are basically 3rd-party PR for games companies, will talk about it, be gentle with it, and not rip it to shreads. Because they couldn't care less about videogaming or us, the consumer.

Don't feed the crap machine, please. For the love of God, if you care about videogames at all, DO NOT BUY THIS FOR $60.

I'll get this for my wife and I for $20 or less for the sheer experience of having 1 game my wife will play with me, and she loves WV. We'll explore the map and then probably stop playing it, because it just isn't fun. There's no incentive to play it unless you just like collecting tape and screwdrivers.

A 3/10 is more than fair. Bethesda has piled crap on us, the loyal FO fans, so I'm glad people are piling the crap on them. As someone who runs a special-events business I just don't understand how a company can just spit on their customer and then act like they should be grateful.

GIVE people refunds who want one. STOP using this awful launcher (deleted my entire game on beta day! Nice!). MAKE IT UP to people who've trusted you, Bethesda.
Oh, and play FO: New California! (New Vegas mod)

Why Bethesda still use a game-engine from the cold war is beyond me.
If you want to sell a **** console port for 69usd, please go bankrupt. The frame-cap, UI and interface should be enough to burn Bethcrap to the ground.

At first day of release, this game doesn't really deliver. Bugs and straight bad game design have ruined the launch (inventory limitation forcing players to walk instead of run). I really hope Bethesda learn of it but between this and Elder Scrolls Online it is obvious they have lost the capacity to produce serious deep games. It's all about money now for this company.

That said, Fallout 76 can still be still fun and addictive. The world is immersive and requires a lot of patience, too much for 90% of the gaming population thus the hate: One must listen to audio files and read through entire paragraphs to get a sense of Fallout post- war world.
Leveling is interesting through a system of distributed points and cards.

As an online game, with time, bugs will be ironed out and we will see QoL improvements.
A first patch is coming a week after launch already and they have yet to announce the details.
    So hope is not lost.
I give it a 8/10 because fact is I have already sunk more than 50 hours and I am having a blast despite of all the problems.

This game is awful, but lets start with the basics:
-The game is buggy as hell, we might have let it go in the past but this time Bethesda needs to pay the piper, the engines has bugs that were in Fallout 4!
-Optimization is obscene, imagine FO4 Boston but its everywhere -The enemy variety is poor despite the fact there is a lot of enemy types, get used to seeing scorched repeatedly
This game is awful, but lets start with the basics:
-The game is buggy as hell, we might have let it go in the past but this time Bethesda needs to pay the piper, the engines has bugs that were in Fallout 4!
-Optimization is obscene, imagine FO4 Boston but its everywhere
-The enemy variety is poor despite the fact there is a lot of enemy types, get used to seeing scorched repeatedly because there are no raiders
-The quests are dumb, who thought it was a good thing to do quests for dead people? Imagine if you played Fallout 1 and you were fetching a water chip for your dead vault, thats every quest in this game
-The gameplay is still clunky, animations don't play properly or smooth enough
-Enemies are too hard (by "hard" I mean spongy) or too easy, there is no inbetween
-The texture work is terrible, outside maybe the exterior lighting the game looks terrible and the interior lighting makes me want to puke
-Lore retcons up the eyeballs, seriously nothing makes sense anymore its all just to keep the illusion its still fallout
-The microtransaction store filled with crap, nuff said
-The game is empty and not in a good way, the servers only hold around 20 players, thats not enough for a map thats apparently "4 times the size of Fallout 4"
-No Push to talk, so listen to screeching kiddies
-No FOV slider, for people like me it makes me feel literally sick
-Physics are STILL tied to fps, Bethesda...why?
-The inventory limit is waaaaay too low to be enjoyable, but then again Bethesda maybe should make their game an actual survival game than adding stuff all over the place!
-The perk cards seem like an interesting idea, just waiting for them to be monetized, gg for killing skills, which is actually a very simplistic system, this is just condescending and insulting.
-Re-use of assets, I **** you not the final end-game boss is a reskinned dragon, even the behavior is the same where they circle around like retards then land
-No NPCs, in a fallout game this is despicable, I could MAYBE buy it if there wasn't any hints of life but there is literally signs of recent life all over the place with notes and holotapes and fresh dead bodies, why can't bethesda commit to being an actual post apocalypse?
-The settlement building limit is too low and even storing stuff counts towards the limit, this is so dumb in an age where INDIE survival games are allowing people to do whatever without limit, if this is an engine issue, GET. A. NEW. ENGINE!
-The voice acting that is there is boring, you listen to stuff like the overseers past life as a farmer...NOBODY CARES! EXPOSITION! And because everyone is dead in this game she likely is too, so why should I care?
-The UI is disgusting, other than the favourite menu they have improved NOTHING, no sub menus, tags, nada, the settlement building UI is also atrocious, pray to god you don't rebind your keys or well...just try it, I dare you.
-The game is trying to appeal to everyone and appeals to nobody as a result, even the survival elements are tame outside of maybe radiation
-"Dedicated servers" might as well be a joke in the AAA games industry, i've had a more stable experience with Multiplayer mods for MORROWIND

    Lets talk about the positives:
-The settlement system is okay I guess, if you ignore the limits and bugs, its cool coming across other peoples camps and you can also utilise theirs, so there is kind of a purpose.
-Gameplay loop is addicting even if it is mindless, there is something about picking up a toothbrush and being able to scrap it
    -Playing with friends
-Locations are somewhat varied, somebody tried but its not enough to recognise with how ugly everything is, I feel bad for the concept artists
-Power armour is awesome again, its now that rare thing you want to achieve, shamefully its heavy as hell so it will take a large chunk of your inventory space
-The character creator has improved a tad bit, adding some options and the hair colors actually look like hair and not plastic, but even so modders have added far more to Fallout 4 already, Bethesda are outplayed here

I would only EVER recommend this game when private servers and mods become a thing, but honestly we've let Bethesda away with too much, I hope mod authors let this game rot, they deserve better, we deserve better. And this $60 full priced crap needs to go, its ripping us off in reality and then they have the gall to ask us for more? No, I'm done. The AAA industry is a joke if this is the standard we hold for full priced games.

Oh and Bethesda, please update your other games for modern OS's...or don't because we know how much you care about your games. Not at all.

At least Bethesda listened to our complaints... but for the entirely wrong reasons, as the most innovative way they've addressed the criticism of Fallout 4's dumbed down dialogue and forgettable storyline was by removing both of those aspects altogether and replacing them with a half-arsed PvP system to "compensate". Sure, the game may be OCCASIONALLY fun to play with other players online goofing around the wasteland, wherein despite the gameplay's shortcomings at least there is virtual socialization... but that's where the fun ends. If you're playing it offline, you're up for a colossal disappointment. No friendly NPCs (except completely redundant robot vendors) means shooting literally everything that moves. Generic fetch-quests offer absolutely no replay value what-so-ever. Even gathering never-ending loot around the world for your C.A.M.P is bound to bore you to death. Everything is grounded within an obsolescent engine desperately kept on life support. The engine still inherits the same old archaic features that already became more apparent since Oblivion, such as game speed tied to a framerate and game-breaking glitches caused by manipulating the FoV with the only way to fix such problems is locking the two - even though this can often create performance issues on certain hardware (perhaps redundant considering how Creation Engine, a.k.a Gamebryo 2.0 is already horribly optimized for modern CPUs and Graphics Cards) - but forget the age of this engine because the fact that it was never suitable for online games to begin with is a real kicker; bugs that run amok and are still not fixed despite the alleged beta-testing prior to release is something I really don't need to mention. Visually, FO76 may be a step-up from Fallout 4, since at least the light is fully dynamic, post-processing effects are actually doing something, the godrays don't look like a milk shower and some texture-work is actually respectable but overall it's nowhere near fantastic for this generation.

But my real issue doesn't lie in game's quality or handling. It's the same issue I've had since Fallout 4 and that's the bastardization of the Fallout insignia. The series has long been deprived of its spirit and Fallout series is an empty husk of what it once was. You can call me an entiled nostalfeg all you want but even if I were to ignore Fallout in the game's title I still can't ignore that 60 dollars for a game so mediocre is way too much, considering that there exist online survival games which are much cheaper, much better... and most importantly devoid of technical issues that Fallout 76 is plagued by, so they have abolutely no excuse not to fix their games (modding community won't get them out of it this time anyway, it's an online game).

Don't get me wrong there are many things in this game that Bethesda could do with fixing, the odd server crash, quests that you are unable to continue, stash size to name but a few. I've given this game 9/10 because I believe these can all be fixed. What I don't understand is how people can give this game a 1/10. These people are clearly all expecting Fallout 5 or something completely different, which Bethesda have been very open in saying that this is not that. If you are expecting this game to be exactly like it's predecessors then you will be disappointed. Instead what Bethesda have created is a game that is essentially a whole new genre. I expect that a lot of the people leaving bad reviews have built up an idea in their heads as to what the game will be. But I am truly impressed and have played the game for 40+ hours now and can't stop! I feel like I have barely scratched the surface and when Bethesda have said they intend the game to go on forever (with updates etc) I think it is money well spent. A major highlight for me has been using the Speed Demon mutation which increases your movement speed by a large amount whilst running around in suit and top hat beating up other players and various different creatures with a tambourine. Never before have I had so much fun in a fallout game. The random encounters you might have with other players make the game so much more than any previous Bethesda title.
Some of the people refusing to read terminals and notes that reveal the story are truly missing out on how well written this game is, maybe try reading a book or two? (I know it's a video game and you probably don't want to read anything but COME ON!)

In summary, this game does need more than a few fixes and Bethesda could have probably done with holding off on the release until it is properly finished but what Bethesda game hasn't had a buggy release?

P.S please add push to talk!

Unfortunately, these good things are drastically hindered by technical limitations, missing features, and a player experience that struggles to find any kind of identity.

If you have three or more friends that are willing to play with you, Fallout 76 can be a ton of fun. Random encounters with other players or taking down a tough boss are just as enjoyable here as they are in any other online multiplayer survival game. Sadly, if you try to go from playing in a group to playing solo, you'll find that the fun factor almost disappears entirely.

The world is huge and lonely. Whether or not you think this is an accurate depiction of what a post nuclear apocalypse would look like, the fact is that it doesn't make for a fun game. There are no characters to become engaged with, except of course for the other players you meet along the way. And anyone who has been playing online games in the past decade will know that this crowd is crazy diverse, and rarely friendly. If you're unlucky enough to come across the wrong group of people, the game quickly becomes a chore as you get peppered with bullets and goaded into attacking back. The revenge system in place here isn't any good either, and leads to a resource drain for all players involved.

The game needs work. A LOT of work. In the future, it's entirely possible that enough content will be added to make this a worthwhile purchase, maybe even a price cut. In its current state... well, you're getting what you pay for: A buggy game that's fun with friends, but ONLY with friends. Solo players looking for a gripping narrative should look elsewhere.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 76 fails on three fronts. First and foremost, as a game, it's bland and uninteresting. The gameplay loop isn't interesting, the gunplay is boring to brain dead, and the while the world is relatively good looking, it is not interesting, The game is a mechanical mess, with little to no work put into balancing (enemies 25 levels above you are rarely a challenge due to failing ai, and general quality of life work is poor to nonexistent (quests such as collect ten empty beer bottles and a limit stash which inhibits the only core feedback loop). Finally the game doesn't add anything to the fallout series, it isn't fun, it doesn't make sense lore wise, the co-op is not fun or enjoyable, and overall it just makes me worry about the future of the fallout series. I don't believe in giving a game a zero. I mean a zero basically means there is no game. So a 3 is about where this game is at the moment. Save your money and wait for this hot mess to get fixed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As you can tell from all the 0's, and looking at the drama that this game has brought along. It's no surprise that the majority of the fan reviews are likely people who wouldn't buy the game at all, and just want the game to tank so they can have they can have single player. Though, there is plenty wrong surrounding Fallout 76. Human NPC's are a sad, and what I feel is a unnecessary sacrifice, and B.E.T.A wasn't really a Beta, more-so a "play a couple weeks early before release" type deal at worst, and stress testing their servers at best. Which, even after release there was no changes that I noticed. travelling to a Robot laden area that's sprawled with guard bots, FPS drops and I'll admit, has gotten me killed a at least once. If they had a proper beta, by this point I'm sure it'd be in a better state. With the PC B.E.T.A deleting itself at start and no steam support, it's been what seems to be bad decision one after another that pisses people off (as you can plenty see with all said 0's).

But I'm rating it on how much fun I've had, not because of Meta problems and things that can possibly be fixed with patches, which I would hope they would put more focus on, since they can't leave that to modders any time soon, and would only enforce the hate if they didn't.

I've had plenty of fun playing solo and with my friends, interacting and helping others in real time and get a random chat in every once in awhile. I've only had a small hand full of PvP, to which I've not done too well, even with backup in my experiences. But most people I've encountered have seemed to avoid it for the most part, giving me a friendly wave when they catch me sneaking about, trying to avoid a fight with them. So far, I've been enjoying my play time, my only, biggest gripe is the no NPC Humans around to spice things up. And Microtransactions are limited to Cosmetics, and I'm hoping it sticks to that.

Unfortunately, it is plagued with bugs, particularly Vsync/gsync issues, crashes, and other nonsense. It really breaks you from the experience, which is a shame. The good news is, this game could run on a potato, using the same engine as skyrim and it shows. The bad news is the graphics for the most part are just blah. The in game settings are minimal and changing the display to borderless to full screen requires a restart of the game. Annoying, because you might have to adjust that to fix vsync issues.

My only other minor complaint is that since this is all online, you can never pause. When you are crafting or in your pip boy, magically enemies will appear out of nowhere and you'll take damage. It's very annoying. Also, the carrying/weight needs to be balanced. Carrying too much? No problem! Store it in your stash. But you can't fast travel there since you are overweight! Ok then, set up your camp where you are. Great! But that has a limit on storage, too. Sigh.

This game is very rough around the edges, and needs some work. If you are on the fence to check it out, I would wait a month or so. It's still worth playing if you enjoy the fallout series.

I continue now with Fallout 76 with 3 friends and my god, this game has a lot of things to patch, the graphism did not evolove a bit in 3 years and the performance are terrific.

First of all, the numbers of bugs and quests that are blocked because of them are quite large, I am not even talking about the events which are 1 times on 3 event, not possible to finish.

The narative is not very interesting as we can't refer ourself to any character as there is none, the notes and holoband are an horror to read or listen to.

The garaphical bugs are everywhere some animations does not launch properly, shadows are all black or none existent. The graphics are still really rough and can't be considered as a style of the studio. When graphism are bad we have to say it.

Lot of mechanics are not good at all, as a french player the controls for base construction and overall gameplay are not really good, I have to find workaround to move in construction mode and I cannot move when I am lauching a grenade because the studio did not think of the shortcuts of nvidia.

Also there was a lot of fps drop during my playtime going to 20 fps and going back to 60, 2 second after.

To conclude, I think the game is not bad at all for the price, you can have fun on it. But it really need a lot of fix and the engine need a lot of work for the next games.

The pvp doesnt make sense, its badly designed.
The crafting system doesn't makes sense either because of the small limit of how much you can put in your base. Just a small house, worktables and a few turrets, nothing else because of the cap limit for construction.
If you are a crafter or hoarder, the game is unplayable, a few guns will leave you criplled permanently in the game, the weight limit is the worst thing for me.
If you want to save scrap theres no way to have many materials and good armors / weapons without permanently losing the fast travel, weight limit for the stash is dumb, not having a way to increasing it is worse.

There's also little in the way of stakes, as killing someone only lets you collect their junk, not their weapons, ammo, or other gear. I want to warn you fine folks to take careful care when reading the negative reviews here because very many of them are not objective and barely subjective, ANYONE can throw a review up here and if you look around other platforms it's essentially the same thing. Most people are not judging the game on its merits but because they didn't get a specific title that they were demanding from the developer+publisher and seem to be intent on destroying a developer's potential success just to make that point. So those of us who are having fun with the game are in part at the mercy of these people who can't just not play the game but want it destroyed. That being said be sure to make sure the review is on the up-n-up and outlines specifically what is right and wrong with the product, which is what I'll do now.

Personally I think the game is great but let me go over a quickfire list of pros and cons, just FYI this is an honest opinion of the game from someone who has been playing it since day 1 of the BETA on PC.

    (Pros)
-Great gunplay compared to previous titles
    -Very well oiled crafting system
    -Craftable Ammo ;)
-No Dogmeat (some people call this a con, but that dog has always gotten in my freakin way since FO3)
-Hilarious perk cards (Canned Dog Food is an in the face Mad Max reference even has a perk card for it!)
-It's not like ESO at all, there's not 500 people running through your dungeon crawls
-Co-op: this part cannot be stated enough, this game is a freakin' joy to co-op players, hands down.
-Seemingly a Never-ending pool of interesting new monsters
    -Massive Map
-Bethesda's usual beautiful and atmospheric landscapes
-Bethesda's usual foreboding and depressing interior atmospheres
-Bethesda's silent story-telling and object placement (people love this for a reason)
-Possibly some of the best voice acting any of the Fallout games have experienced (that might not be saying much since it was always notoriously bad for almost every title hah!)
    -Seamless world/server phasing.
-A plethora of new weapons (and no you don't run around with pipe pistols for long as much as we all hate those dumb things, ammunition vending machines everywhere and Americans need to make pipe pistols? pffft!)
-The lore is actually pretty good, the people complaining about it have always complained about East-coast Fallout lore no matter how reasonable it is.

    (Cons)
-Creation Engine limitations (I've modded BGS games since the early gamebryo days)
-Frame Rate Lock at 60fps (the engine needs to be locked to a standardized framerate and doesn't play well with variable or high frame rates as it causes your game to get buggy in ways other players with a standard 60hz display will never experience)
-No push-to-talk so nobody says anything to one another everybody just communicates via emotes (this feature is being added post-launch for some reason, but the lack of it is really really annoying because you do WANT to talk to others.
-FOV "locked" at 70 degrees with no FOV setting in the options menus (default FOV on PC has always been 90 degrees, larger displays need higher FOV to compensate for the size of the physical display to prevent the player from getting sick. This setting can be altered in the .ini config)
-Unlocked .ini config - remember that framelock i mentioned? well you can force the lock off in the ini settings which will cause the game to run at the pace of your GPU rather than that locked FPS effectively enabling a speedhack that the servers struggle to check against.
-No Anticheat? - There are players who are up in the level 60+ range already, they all swear that they achieved those levels legitimately, you only have to play the game to know that's a load of BS.
-The Slap System - admittedly I think this system is dumb it's trying to prevent and encourage pvp all at the same time by attempting to make duel challenges seamless, but for whatever reason they decided to add faction-pvp post-launch and not prior so I don't know what's up with that.
-Inventory Management is BRUTAL - I normally don't mind inventory management but FO76's inventory management is pretty bad even despite having virtually all the weight management perks maxed out, so many things alter your potential carry weight, whether you're hungry, thirsty, ate the wrong thing, diseased, etc. you spend so much time hoofing it back to camp just to drop your junk off and try to get back into the fight.

    (Conclusion/Notes)

I think the game is great, rough around the edges of course, and in the meantime is easily remedied until BGS sorts out their plans. I think this game was rushed to be put to market in Q4 and ALL of the features were to be added post-launch, which isn't a practice that should be made into a habit but as it stands Fallout 76 is an enjoyable experience that will most likely get even better with age!

I've heard a lot of barking dogs, screaming kids, and burps before I just muted everyone. However, this is still a Bethesda game, so bugs do pop up occasionally. The game runs smooth with very rare server interruptions, although enemy animations not playing are my most common bug, but only a fairly minor one at that.

    1 - Buggy unfinished game
2 - MMOs are not what fans wanted, you can tell all the lies you want Bethesda, we never wanted a MMO (know you customers Bethesda)
3 - Boring grind fest (guns falling apart is the laziest mechanic ever, why even bother finding or crafting a super weapon, it will just fall apart)
4 - Level restrictions on gear is dumb, there are many smarter mechanics to use (gear effectiveness depends on stats, so if a level 1 person uses a rocket launcher, it does 10 damage, stat multiplies by gun stat, and 200 damage when a level 20 person uses that same weapon)
    5 - too easy
6 - Bad engine, aged terribly
7 - Bad near inexistant story and that is not due to the lack of NPCs
    8 - horrible PVP e boring PVE
9 -Bad textures (just hire modders from the community, they always do a better job then Bethesda people)

On top of these amateur technical failures the game play is bland and boring. If you don't have any friends to play this game with you basically just wasted $60. All I can do is hope that Bethesda has the mercy to never butcher the Elder Scrolls franchise like they have killed the Fallout franchise.

After playing F76 for some time:
+ Due to the small player count and small, far away spawns It feels very immersive for an online game (I'm a roleplayer).
+ Was pretty stable for a new online title (one crash in 10+ hours on PC)
+ I like that it is an MMO and not a CO-OP. I like pick-up random groups and the chance to meet other random scavengers in ruins.
+ I like the open world base building. Have build some useful and fun things for new players close to the starter area.
+ If the shop will really only be for cosmetics and the DLC will really be free like they have promised, it will become good value for money in time.
+ The group area events are some of the most fun and original ones I have seen in MMOs.
+ I think they have found the perfect balance of survival elements. It's not a chore, but you have to keep it in mind and it might be punishing if you forget about it.
+ I'm not sure if like the perk card system, but it seems smart for on online game. It would be a bad idea in a single player game, but most online games introduce the option to respec your character, so a more flexible system build up from ground up seems sensible.

    - - The game is optimized poorly
    - - The AI is simply horrible. I would be happy with the poor AI from Fallout 4, but they obviously had to change something. And it's very buggy.
    - - No text chat, and the emotes are horrible.
    - Too much reused assets. I've played F4 for like 500+ hours and am really fed up with using the same pipe guns and revolvers.
    - It's the same with monsters. Yes, there are a lot of new ones, but it feels low effort , as I'm still bashing the same ghouls, molerats, and mutt dogs.
    - I hate the UI (like in 90% games that are developed for both consoles and PC)
    - The system for tracking quests in a team is a mess.
    - It feels like the gear progression is wrong for an online game. Games like this are supposed to keep people playing for hundreds of hours and players in F76 already have the high grade power armors with enough fusion cores to run them for a long long time.

+/- If Bethesda isn't lying, they will try to introduce "private" moddable servers in a year after sorting out all the core issues. This might change the game a lot (or it might be a useless mess).

All in all... I don't want it to change, I like most of the unique core concepts. I just want it to get much better at what it tries to do. And a better game overall in all the technical areas it fails now.

Bethesda, you should honestly be ashamed. You're not supposed to be like EA. The Todd Howard memes were funny and all but now he can rest his legacy next to his fat wallet, in his pocket, hopefully never to come back into the light. Return to form or do not hurt the fallout franchise further.

I can't score this game very high, because I've encountered a lot of problems. I've played to level 11 so far, maybe put a solid 15-20 hours into it. It totally breaks the immersion and exploration nature of Fallout, and forces you down a select path. Even then, the cards you get are random, so good luck planning your build. An example being, I have encountered opportunities to lock pick, but skill isn't high enough, and I can't advance it until that card randomly appears. Next, the camp building is full of frustrating bugs and limitations, from appearing and disappearing walls, to the environment working against you, and always having to rebuild it when you move it because the terrain won't accept the camp you spend hours creating. Also, good luck crafting any gear above level 1. I couldn't figure it out. I could find some stuff of higher levels and had options to mod, but its kind of rare and most my armor is still level 1 because I can't craft anything but level 1. Also, you will run out of storage space very quickly, and it's bugged (where's your QA dept Bethesda?). It's limited at 400 pounds, and between guns, ammo, food, armor, and of course junk, you will fill that in a heartbeat. The buggy part? You could have a note or holotape that weighs 0, but the stash won't accept it. You have no room, until you take an item out, stash the 0 weight item, and then try and replace what you took out. But it doesn't always work. I could go on, and I will. Graphically, it's gorgeous, and I love it, but the overgrowth is insanely annoying. You can't see anything up ahead because all the flora is as tall as you are. Crouching for a sneak attack outdoors? Not impossible, but not the greatest. Finally, the game tells you very little. It's like the old days of Everquest. Plop! Here you are, now suffer as you try and figure out some base mechanics of this game. Have fun dying a lot as you do. Expand

Also Story: So lala...

for 2018 you have to expect BETTER for a AAA title. bethesda has gotten LAZY. ps4 fallout 4 performance a few years ago was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. i'm just not buying bethesda games until THEY WAKE UP and make a 2019 engine that doesn't look like a fresh cow pie and smells even worse.

It's an asset-flip. This is not even a game, it is just the multiplayer mode that was missing from Fallout 4, being sold seperately in an attempt to cash in.

In my opinion, with the mod selling, microtransactions, and all the unpleasant things bethesda are doing, I can see them becoming the new EA games. The new gold standard for greed.

They made it more of a shooter and added inconsequential building of settlements with a **** story. The music was great....all 5 songs. Spend some effin money and time and make a good game! This was the biggest slap in the face to fans I have ever seen. I've had it with the platform itself. It is no longer fun and quirky, it's outdated and limiting. I'm sick of power armour, mutants blah blah blah....go FORWARD in time. What a novel concept! Have technological advances, the establishment of regional governments with choices. If I want a mindless shooter, I'll go play Destiny. Expand

Changing my review because for the last few days it's been nothing but issues. This is DEFINITELY not worth the full price!

Performance is poor, gameplay is repetitive as all hell, and for $60 there shouldn't be ANY cash shops, cosmetics should be lootables or quest rewards.

That'll teach me for supporting Bethesda.

This isn't a game. It is barely the shell of game.

A mostly non-working trainwreck abusing the franchise name to flog off a mostly dead engine and a whole heap of microtransations.

Already riddled with hacks to boot. Avoid like the plague.

After playing for a few hours, I got absolutely tired of it. No story, no companions and the “main missions” are more like side missions. Not a fan of this new game concept. Bedestha does not know what exactly their fans actually want! This is a huge mistake and a total waste of the company’s effort!

Face it. We all know this is just “Fallout 4 Online” in disguise, just like GTA Online.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]
