I think a 6.5 is more accurate, lets start with the good, Fallout 76 definitely is a different fallout game. But if you enjoy base building it really is great. But if you enjoy base building it really is great. Also a nice feature for Camps and workshops is the ability to have materials that can be mined I think thats a pretty cool addition in 76.

I will say for the story missions are lacking *Spoilers Kinda*...................... Everyone is dead, so story missions follow something like this, find a object find the holotape find the dead person repeat, Sometimes you get to kill some enemies along the way but for the most part thats how the story or most quests go. As for quality of quests I mean its average nothing crazy, And the quests didnt glitch out for me ever, at the time of writing this I am level 30 with about 24 hours in if you include the beta.

The reason I put the game at a 6 or 6.5 is for the following, the servers, in all my time of playing the servers disconnected me about ten times in the normal game (I never got disconnected in the beta) and ive had this game hard crash twice for me on my rig. For reference I have a intel i7 7700 k GTX 1060 6 GB and 32 GB ddr4. I will also say when you disconnect from the server it tells you way late. I have been disconnected while running to a part of the map only to realize I disconnected and I now have to re walk all the land I just covered, supper annoying. Another reason for the low score is for the power armor glitch, Ive had to reset my game twice for power armor glitches so far, how this happens is you enter the power armor at a bad angle and get stuck.. definitely not fun. so over all for the game being out for two days ish ive crashed 2 times disconnected 10 times and had to restart the game 2 times for the power armor glitch.

    * (side note) Servers can be very lag prone and has bad hit detection this has only happened once to me forcing me to log out and back in again in order to get a better server. It was so bad to the point of me hitting a enemy then that enemy would hit me twice and then just roll over dead mid attack.

I will also say that this game needs to have some quality of life fixes 400 lbs max stash size is crap That needs to be raised or weight levels need to be decreased. Also No push to talk is annoying as well. I have also noticed even if you turn off the voice chat sometimes the launcher likes to turn it back on again, only happened to me once in the full release and once in the beta so be aware.

I will also say this game needs a trader hub, most vendors like at a resort in fallout 76 share the caps inventory and I find that very annoying, I suppose a way to combat that is to server hop but it should still be fixed or have something to offset this. It almost feels like you need to be able to post your goods for sale for other players to see, something like a guild store like from ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) A quick spot to put extra amo up for sale or a great place to get cheap goods. Now when I say feel I mean to say selling items is very empty and not satisfying, since vendor hubs share most caps you feel like there is no point to selling you should just scrap it. It just feels like there was supposed to be a trading store but it never really got put in.

Also A side note that I have is with repairing weapons if i need to use a gear to repair a weapon when I scrap the weapon type in question I should get gear... makes sense right? Wrong! only wood and steel, It just kind of bothers me. But after all of that I will say one more good thing to end on. Huge map! I very rarely come across players and each area is very different from the starting area in the woods to the swamp to the nuclear waste land its all unique and each spot feels very different.

It's just hard to understand that this game is made by Bethesda who also made Elder Scrolls Online.

It's like it's made by some sort of cheap studio with lazy devs and managers. Oh well... Looks like Bethesda's goal was to make money from micro-transactions, and not to satisfy its customers and fans. It's a shame and disappointment really.

-- Negative: Everything else (PvP, Bugs, Performance, Story, Gameplay, Price)

Opening the map freezes my computer for 20 seconds.. Sometimes the audio just goes missing and it all comes back to life like the whole 5 minutes compressed in 10 seconds (shat my pants I did),

This game is a technological nightmare! It's an old and outdated engine and I am running the game on a 2017 high-end pc with the last gen i7, a 1080ti and m2 ssd... WHAT THE ACTUAL F(_)CK?!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Premise: I'm a 33 years old father of twins. Not an heater nor a kid. I've played all fallout games since the were isometrics and I really loved them. Back in the days when I was a studente at law university, Fallout 3, was my favourite game to play when I've got some spare times (so sad:-)).
I have read a lot about Fallout 76, seen a bunch of Youtube videos about the beta and my eyes couldn't believe how trash this game appeared.
I was litterally shocked how they ruined a perfect formula.
I've prordered the game hoping the final version would be better.
    No way.
Terrible graphics with lot of artifacts and glitches (the engine is really outdated), sometimes it stutters at 2K, with GTX 2080Ti, unaccettable!
    No dialogues.
    No NPC.
The world is really empty! You have nothing to do except going from point A to point B, collect items, killing some monsters. No Plot, no quests, no history.
The multiplayer side is even worse. Empty. Collabo is 0. Only group of bad painted survivors pointing their guns at some monsters.
For me is a no go. If I could score less then 0 I would. Is not for the money (litterally stolen) but for what they did to my beloved FALLOUT.
It is a havoc that should be withdrawn from the market.
    10 hours of play.

Fallout 76 is a shallow, repetitive and incredibly grind heavy experience that cynically takes everything I love about the Fallout series, guts it of all its interesting mechanics and crams the husk of what's left into a generic, boring open world survival multiplayer experience.

I would honestly say that MineCraft is more fun than 76 and that's after growing tired of it half a decade ago. So let's go into more detail on why I feel this way.

The setting: 76 takes the setting from the core series where you play as a vault dweller emerging into a post-apocalyptic world full of nasty enemies and... Not much else. In fact the enemies are for the most part either completely broken or ridiculously easy, but I'll come back to that. The world is actually the best thing about the game and why I'm opting to give a 1 over a zero. There's a lot of vibrant colours and enjoyable scenery, but this is marred heavily by the overall experience.

Another huge issue is the lack of NPCs and quests being doled out in MMO form. The world falls flat when there's no interesting characters to interact with or build the plot.

The combat: Enemies in 76 are a joke. No really. Not only are they either too easy or overpowered by the game deciding to rubber band them around while you try to land a solid hit, but they're also very heavily populated meaning it's impossible to explore at your own pace and enjoy lore through tapes and terminals. There were times where I would enter a building after clearing a zone only to find that the corpses I just made have all disappeared and re-spawned around me.

VATS is a janky mess of a feature which, being in real-time now is not only unintuitive and slow to use, but it's also incredibly unreliably. The most use I could find for it is to snap on to target before aiming manually. It also makes targeting limbs incredibly difficult with feedback on crippling enemies being near non-existent compared to past entries

The multiplayer experience: At any time, in any place, you can and will be sent all number of duel requests from other players in the rare chance that you actually get to meet one outside of area event quests. Not only is this incredibly annoying, but it also deals a tiny amount of damage. Not enough to be threatening, but if you've just finished up[ a big fight and you're out of stims, well, you're not gonna have a lot of fun.

Players can stalk you anywhere and issue these requests at any time. Like when you're trying to read those terminal entries, or sitting through the 20 second sleeping animations. This makes for some immersion shattering experiences that will leave you at best, mildly annoyed. There's also the fact that you can bait players into your suspended platforms in your camp and remove the floor from underneath them, downing them with fall damage and popping their heads with one bullet to get credit for the kill. This never happened to me, but the fact that it can is just stupid. Oh and good luck finding people with the same quest as you for some co-op action.

Overall: Fallout 76 is a cynical attempt at milking the Fallout fanbase for all it's worth. There are micro transactions aplenty with the in-game store with all of the purchasable items being purely cosmetic. I wouldn't take much issue with this if the game itself wasn't a shambling mess of what its predecessors were before it.

The combat is boring and often tedious, enemies are far too common, player griefing is prevalent despite anti-griefing measures and the plot is incredibly hard to enjoy in any capacity.

When it was announced me and my friends would often joke about running into 13 year old kids screaming profanities about our mother as they did everything they could to annoy us into quitting. This didn't happen, but the game itself felt equally offensive just by playing it. It plays like a reanimated corpse of Fallout 4 with none of the charm.

Spend your money elsewhere, I know I will.

A very average game in comparison to many triple A titles released within the last 2 years. Its game-world is nowhere as polished or interesting as Breath of the Wild, Horizon:Zero Dawn or RDR2. Its technical aspects are half a decade behind most $30 games.
The game looks, feels and plays poorly. Frame stutters, capped framerate, no FOV slider, no push to talk, janky sounds, weapons feel like they have little next to no impact in both audio and visual compared to good FPS, of which there have been plenty since 2017.

There is a majority of environmental storytelling, if you enjoyed this in other Fallout titles, you will enjoy it here. But there is a significant lack of cohesive main- and sub-plot storytelling. Every location has its own story but you barely ever feel like you're part of a significant storyline with an means to an end. There are also no surprises in storytelling; pretty much every human NPC is dead, you will always return to a terminal or a robot and never be surprised or caught off-guard once.
The leveling and weapon system are normalized so higher level players don't carry a great advantage over lower level players, making level 20s able to compete with 40s. This artificial balance in turn makes the PvE a complete joke, with the mobs suffering from the typical Bethesda AI flaws since Morrowind (getting stuck, getting confused, standing still. If you shoot a big monster from a position it has hard time reaching, you win).
As such, there is no real sense of progression either. Hour 3 will feel like hour 30 will feel like hour 300, except you're wearing Power Armor in the end and have an even greater overabundance of Stimpacks to spam and cheese out the already ridiculously easy content.
The gunplay is incredibly shallow, from bad audio to bad animations and visuals to little impact felt from guns. There is no realism in this shooting, from the way the guns sway to recoil to damage.
A majority of base movement and combat animations have been recycled from Fallout 3 and Skyrim. You still have swing left, swing right, power attack and block, clunky run animations, clunky wielding animations, pretty much everything that modders worked hard to change for FO4.
Finally, the character customization is horrible. The most downloaded mods on Nexus for FO4 (and Skyrim) are to improve character customization, visuals, textures and clothes. None of that is in Fallout 76, your character will go through the exact same creation menu as Fallout 4 with barely any improvements made to it, the textures will be bad, the customization will be bad.
Many clothes just 'hide' your equipped armor pieces, and the majority of armor you find is re-used assets from 4, without even getting a texture upgrade. Customization is one of the most imporant aspects for many people in an RPG and Fallout 76 offers very rudimentary, ugly customization that won't make you feel unique or like a virtual avatar of yourself, just an ugly blob of very dated textures.

All in all, this game is worse than many early access titles currently, not worth $60 for any of its key aspect: There are many superior multi- and single-player games out on the market. There are games with better storytelling on the market. There are games with better visuals and technology on the market that still offer more interesting gameplay than F76.

I gave it a 55/100, rounded up to a 6/10 on here. It is an 'okay' game but it's not great. It has fun potential, but not more than other games. Games media will likely give it a deluded high 70 to low 80, but what else is new. Just in terms of graphics, stability and features you'd objectively have to deduct a vast sum of %, but everyone knows they won't.
Still, it's not a 0/10 like all the bombed reviews claim, but its definitely not a 10/10 with vibrant AI as some of the other reviews claim. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

Only buy this if you have an abundance of income and don't feel bad for supporting the practice of unfinished, recycled games as a service, or if you enjoy environmental storytelling as the main aspect of a game.
Fallout 76 is an avatar of mediocrity, and as long as gamers don't start voting with their wallets to force Game Studios to shape up, this will be the standard for many games moving forward.

I would have gladly waited a few extra years to get a traditional fallout game. I was playing a large mod for an older Fallout game yesterday. I felt fear, excitement, wonder, humor and I had to really think about what I was doing. You don't get that in 76. When I play Fallout 76 it is just "oh more wood to gather. I had better drink water." I don't hate the game but it really needs some human NPCs and a story to save it. Finding dead bodies gets old. If they are dead bodies why am I doing their bidding? The Game that is actually presented is not bad. Certainly not enough to garner the hate it has. The world is well designed, and full of character. The variation in the map is a welcomed change, and I simply love the look of it. Appalachia in the fall is gorgeous! I'd know because it is the only benefit of living here. The world design is fantastic, and flows very well.
There are two reasons this review was not higher,
    1) The lack of NPC's is almost a running joke. Every time I find myself on the cusp of finding a living, breathing, dumb as a rabbit classic Fallout NPC, ther're either dead or fled. For god's sake, I'd even take Preston Garvey.
    2) The delays. By god. The delays between doing anything are terrible. For example, you'll shoot an enemy, hit them, the are able to hit you before your damage registers. It is the thorn in my side that makes me want to put the controller down and rethink everything. Another example is when looting anything the menu has to buffer, sometimes for 5 seconds or more. That's alright, but when the game is centered around looting everything, it is really pestering.

Yes I'd rather have a single player Fallout, but exploring the wasteland shooting everything in sight with 3 other buddies was just way too much fun. Please give it a try. Expand

Fallout 76 is just an old Fallout game mod repackaged into a lifeless world. Now, shouldn't a post-apocalyptic world be lifeless? Yes! But this is a game, and the devs are supposed to be making it fun.

This is not fun. And they broke V.A.T.S. I can hear their developers saying "good enough" with every unfixed bug or broken gameplay mechanic. I've been playing since Fallout 1 & 2.

I've been playing since Fallout 1 & 2. Fallout 3 was at least innovative. I began to get concerned in Fallout 4 when there was little innovation. This is just a cash grab, and where Bethesda betrayed my trust.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, won't get fooled again.

Honest Review? Here you are. My experience and the like.

i am about a full day in playing this game. 22h on record now. i played by myself for 8 hours. then actually went out to look for a gang to team up with. no one would join me. it seams very very hard out of the maybe 30 people i have run across, that would like to be friends.

My first 8 hours of playing this game... it was dead it seamed. it was as if i was playing Fallout 4 after the main mission. I was able to get a power armor frame. and a massive plethora of pipe pistols. that i can only seam to sell for 1-2 bottle caps or deconstruct into one or 2 screws. depending on item condition. and after about 8 of those hours, compiling materials and a few quests. i still couldnt build a full on house (4 walls and a roof). So after i gave up on the building aspect of the game. i then got board of doing the same kind of quests over and over again. ether fetch, baby sit, kill something, or read an entire essay worth of hidden quest paths. I have been around the block a few times with these holotape and such story systems. Fallout 1 and especially Fallout 2 had them already. It wasnt new.

My next few hours. from hour 8 to about 12 i found one of my friends in game. And we didnt go on some massive adventure our the like. i was helping him get his quests done and the like he was helping with some of mine. We still couldnt really build much. And he got tired of just doing the same kind of quests as well.
From about hour 12 to 13 we just talked and tried to figure out the leveling system, some crafting, and where to go and do next. so from hour 13 to about 16 we went to the edge of the maps. We tried to find the largest landmarks. and we ended up getting frustrated as we kept running out of ammo, and getting chased down by a gang of 4 other players wanting to PvP.
My friend left on hour 16 and i went back to where i like to set up my shop. trying to work with the crafting system in some way. seeing what i could or couldnt do.
Then followed by me Alt-Tabing out of the game to see how to start looking for nuclear launch codes... to no real prevail.

My Review of this game is a 2/10. its boring. its empty. theres nothing at those cool looking locations. the story didnt hook me or my friend. the quests are generic MMO quests. its still buggy. and as i have seen from previous BGS games, they will remain buggy to the end of their life.
The Engine is too old for this stuff they expect it to do.
The players ruined my experience. but it was alright when i was playing with just my friend. the no push-to-talk system is cancerous.
There is no amusement to about 80% of these locations.
There is no random special encounters with lets say as happens in Fallout 3 or new vegas.
Its arsenal is lack luster. it will be an E.A. like system where i have to play some 100+h before i get to end game equipment. that i might not even have the level to use. I already got power armor frame and a minigun though. Ammo is harder to come across.
The survival aspect of this game is a joke. you dont get hungry or thirst too often at all. Softcore survival just means that you are to not have too harsh of a penalty on death... not have it become a massive chore when you actually need to drink or eat.
The game is alright for exploring and some time with friends. But thats all that is hear. wide as an Ocean, deep as a puddle. ill give it points for the looks and the environment. but everything else? No.

Out of this entire experience, i came out feeling ripped off. I payed $65 pre-order... i get home to open my PHYSICAL CD case. to find that where the CD is, its a cardboard disk... THERE IS NO PHYSICAL COPY OF FALLOUT 76. and it was STILL a FULL PRICED game. Not only that but the pre-order from Gamesstop; Their special pre-order item? was a Fallout Sticker to put in your car window.

I have no idea what Bethesda is doing. idk if this is Todd's idea. but if this is a joke. it went right over all of our heads.

As of today. I know this wasnt your first Online game, Bethesda. i am no longer a Bethesda fan. Goodbye Bethesda.

This game feels sad... Just sad. No npcs, this game feels incomplete(?). Empty and dead as a hollowed, old-tree. It's like something was ripped apart crashing down the core values of this game. It's like it has lost its very own soul if I might say.

Even Fallout 4 which wasn't the franchise's top gun proved out to be way more effective by introducing new capabilities and adding a flavour into the post apocalyptic wasteland. It had its flaws in RPG elements mostly but nevertheless it proved out to live to its expectation.

Whereas in the case of Fallout 76 even the most subtle feeling of gloom and doom is totally absent. It's like venturing into a failed fallout 4 alpha project.

Sad and pathetic. I'll try my best to forget this.

For future reference please use the Steam engine next time. I mean we know what you're doing. We're not stupid. We grew up with this game. Don't puncture the wound further.

Post-Skyrim, Bethesda has turned ugly. They've taken the same sociopathic hyper-corporate road as EA and Activision, chasing that sweet cash money to the nth degree while ruthlessly exploiting their fan base and making inferior games.

For some reason they've been allowed to get away with this for years. The bought-and-paid-for reviewers seem to find "Bethesda bugs" charming and quaint, even joking about how they're "part of the experience".

Maybe if you get a free review copy of the game they are terribly amusing, but when I'm paying $60 for the privilege I expect the game to run properly and not have to hack the .ini files for hours myself to get it to work. Top "journalists", how much is Bethesda paying you again?

Anyway, to the game; Fallout 76 is more of the same bland, buggy tripe that we got with Fallout 4 (to the extent it's essentially a multiplayer mod).

It comes from the same school of cash-grab thought as Metal Gear Survive. Fallout 76's ancient engine is poorly diguised with a flaking new coat of beige paint.

Unlike single-player Betheda releases, they can't rely wholly on unpaid amateur modders to fix their bugs this time around and so they're likely here to stay. At least it means they won't get to exploit their dedicated community to do their work for them for free.

Continuing on from Fallout 4's hollow stripping down of the Fallout franchise, Fallout 76 goes another step further, removing all NPCs and replacing them with the cheap, boring terminals and holotapes of Fallout 3 and 4. You know, those excruciatingly boring and meaningless quests people hated (yet are very easy to make)...there's a whole game of those now. Yippee!

The MP component itself is underwhelming, with castrated PvP (because they didn't want it to be too harsh for the ultra-casuals they're appealing to) and boring co-op. It's no fun to run around in an empty world where there's nothing to do and no real plot.

Ignore the inevitable 10/10 IGN and "actually I quite like the politics" Kotaku reviews, as they excitedly kiss the rumps of their masters. Bethesda have churned out re-release after re-release of Skyrim, tried to force "Paid Mods" into their games and now they've moved into cynical cash-grab territory. It's time to push back.

Fallout 76 is really hard to review as it's an entirely new type of game that unfortunately can't appeal to the primitive minds that give it bad reviews for all the wrong reasons.

If you are looking for your regular Fallout/Elder Scrolls quest grind - don't buy this game, at all.
Though it has Fallout in the title and the mechanics are pretty much the same as Fallout 3 onwards, you simply won't get the same experience as you are used to.

What the game can offer however is handing you a massive world to explore with the classic Fallout charm and humour surrounding it.
Now let that sink in and I'll give you a glimpse on what's good, what's bad, and what's really ugly about Fallout 76.

    QUESTS
Though it really falls short on meaningful quests at first glance, taking your time getting to know people's stories in quests, notes and holotapes is very rewarding.
The main quest starts rather simple with: hey, go there and find person X - which is dead already. You find some note, move on to the next person along the trail which is also dead, and everyone is dead. Bottom line - the only humans still alive are you and the other dwellers from Vault 76.
So there's no human NPCs - period.

The main quest is a rather well written introduction into the mechanics and as it progresses you will get some side missions along the way and eventually learn more about what happened in the past few years.
Until you reach a point where you get another main quest that forces you to run across the map for really dumb objectives before it gets interesting again. Awful time flller - afaic there's absolutely no excuse for it other than wasting people's time.
I'm still stuck with that mission so I can't tell if it gets way better from there but I instead went for some exploration on my own.

I ran around A LOT so far and though you get hints that something happens here and there there's simply no quest yet to follow.
For instance - I ran into a camp that is shaking with a holotape about a customer complaint from when before the bombs fell. I hear a scream in the distance - I can't find anything when I try to follow the source of the scream.
You'll get that a lot as you explore at your own pace. The more you see, the more you will feel like the map is an empty shell that may or may not be filled later on.

And that's all I can say about that.

    BASE BUILDING
Now if you are interested in that part I hate to tell you that it suffers from some really horrible compromises that need to be there for it to function, but it absolutely kills the potential.
On one hand you aren't always on the same "realm" - so your base persists only as long as it can be built again where you had it and nobody else built their base there now. Unlikely to happen - unless you found a site that gives "free" aluminium.

The amount of structures you can build is ridiculously limited.

The versatility and ease of just moving your C.A.M.P makes you forget about your base and you just move the base module somewhere else for a hand full of caps to drop your junk or to cook instead of finding a proper station on the map.

Bottom line - that feature can't deliver, especially when knowing something like an Epoch mod in ARMA or ARK's building capabilities. It makes sense for what Fallout 76 is but it's... meh - I wouldn't know how to fix it though.

    FOOD, WATER, SURVIVAL
I like that part - though you need some 20 litres per day instead of 2 - it's quite nice and you can see yourself getting better at it compared to from the struggles you may have had at the start.
Occasionally it may be annoying but never enough to actually be an issue.

Will lack of water/food kill you? No - you just suffer AP penalties.
Good compromise imo and as good as you can make it.

    DEATH
Has like 0 consequences... all you lose is scrap - I haven't reached a point yet where I had such good scrap that losing it may be annoying. And even if that were the case, when you die you can just run back to your point of death and pick it up again.

    PVP
I only read about it and I'd say it's absolutely useless. There's no base locations to be really fought over as they don't persist, all you can loot is scrap.... useless

    EVENTS
More annoying than useful - as soon as you are in an Event area the quest for it gets activated and sometimes the event itself - even though you didn't sign up for it. You just happen to be there for another quest and suddenly you get swarmed by mobs. Idiotic implementation.
And - no serverwide chat or group finder to actually do a shoutout and say: hey guys, wanna do that event? At least to my avail.

BOTTOM LINE Don't buy this game if you expect a regular Fallout experience. Read up on it, watch videos, check if it's something for you. I for myself enjoy it as I like to just run around exploring and having some content is a welcome change compared to other titles in that genre.

    GOOD:
    (1) The world map is really great with lots of things to visit, but I don't think it's as that big as some people claim. Starting locations are generally small, with no large industrial complexes, hopefully this changes later on
    (2) New weapons and items, crafting mechanism is well done and similar to Fallout 4
    (3) Hmm, I'm struggling to think of anything else
    FINAL THOUGHTS:
This game has a potential, but looking at the negativity around this game it reminds me Windows Vista and we know what happened there - you think it will get better with time. The game is not designed well and doesn't give any challenge. I don't want to play with other random players, PUBG already proved me this is a bad idea. I'll play it alone, but to be honest I'm already bored after 6 hours. I'm hoping the next patch will add a lot of new content and fix at least half of the bugs. I give you chance Bethesda like I did Windows Vista and I don't want to be disappointed again. Gladly I've purchased the game half price, I'd not pay full price for this product and this is why I give 5

Fallout 76 is a really cool experiment from Bethesda. I would not release the project yet, as it is still with a bunch of subquality work, but I hope that in time they will fix everything. The storyline leaves much to be desired. Although I believe that a lot of notes and terminals fill this gap. I will wait for new patches and updates. Bye.

Honestly a fun game but marred by arbitrary design choices that limit the ability to enjoy the staples of previous games. There is still hope for a decent game to arise from Fallout 76 if only a few key features are implemented.

Graphical: Depth of Field toggle, FOV slider, 60FPS cap.
Player interaction: Push to talk, text chat preferably global or multi-channeled.
Trading: Vendors shouldn't share caps across map, buying only restores about 25% of the worth back to the vendor, ability to set your camp or a workshop as a trade location/trade request board, if its really an issue of players getting to many caps make food/drink worth zero.
Building: Allow buildings to semi-clip into terrain as moving camp with blueprints is next to impossible, Need a large increase to the stash size or another way to store things such as build-able loot containers (with locks), increase the maximum size of your camp as well as budget per level.
World: Event quests need a run over for breaking and bugs, I know they won't add them but no NPC's really leaves you feeling like you're chasing ghosts, Even though they give a reason for it I would like anything other than more scorched to fight in towns.

All in all it is fun to play with a few friends but is more frustrating the longer you play as storage management becomes a major time sink and the outcome of most of the stories is "They're all dead and you missed it entirely." If Todd and the company does want this game to succeed in anyway they need to start make changes fast, as the stash size issues were known since halfway through the beta and have not been changed yet. Lets just say "We will watch your career with great interest." Bethesda.

Fallout is my beloved franchise, has been since the first game, I love the second game, I enjoyed New Vegas, I didn't like the change of philosophy of Fallout 3 and I was severely disappointed by Fallout 4... I played them all, even the spin-offs, the terrible PlayStation 2 one too. I've seen Fallout at its best and its worst, yet never in my wildest dreams would I expect this.

The game is glitchy, something everyone forgives Bethesda every, single time. Not this time, not in a multiplayer only game. A balanced, fair and smooth experience is necessary for an online game! This thing isn't ready for public consumption, not for that price, not when it's comparable to all other survival games on Steam in terms of gameplay and worse than them in terms of stability and connectivity! This shouldn't have been released to the public for another 2-3 years of intense development! And all that with a patch that's bigger than the game!? What were you thinking Bethesda!?

This, being a survival game and not an RPG, means that there's no NPCs, no story, no investment. A truly dead and barren wasteland and that, my friends, means that the game is boring. Walk, shoot, gather, walk, shoot, gather... nothing more, nothing less. Oh, "but it's fun with friends", I hear you saying - well, so was watching "The Room" and playing "Ride to Hell: Retribution". Everything is fun with friends because, at the very worst, misery loves company.

But wait, there's more... because the same old, busted, barely working game engine is yet again back with all of the glory of the stumbling old, drunk man reliving his youth. The lengths to which developers try to obfuscate the engine's limitations include varying quality of textures and the most distracting visual depth effect I have ever seen! This, being an online game, means that modders won't come to fix it this time as modding will probably be a heavily monitored aspect of the game, Bethesda's paid mods service will probably be the only way to make this game playable. Oh, the framerate is also locked, not that it matters when the game hasn't been optimised at all.

And I hear you saying "don't like it, don't play it". Fine. I want my money back, but Bethesda won't give me my money back! The game's not on Steam, their launcher is a broken mess as well (it can delete the game files or not allow you to uninstall the game at all) and their refund policy takes so damn long just for you to hear "no"... This game is a disaster. Bethesda is just Bethesda, they publish great games but make garbage themselves lately. Don't waste your money on this one.

Kill Super Mutants with a friend! Always fun.

PvP world with a very large degree of co-operation and very little actual grief. In fact, those who try to grief generally get bored very fast. If they don't there's always the option to jump to a new server. It doesn't take any time at all and you're in the same place when you land in the new server. Unless you've friended them they can't chase you across servers.

Did I mention a massive world with a ton of content?

There are other humans in the game! If that's not your thing, then you'll probably fit in with about half of them anyway. Most people on any server are exploring the story line on their own. It is fun to bump into people casually, but the game is a lot more fun if you're exploring with a group you meet up with regularly. I guess I hear a lot of people complain about this, but as far as I can tell it's only a negative if you're looking for something to complain about.

    Cons:
Pretty ridiculously easy. Although if you want a challenge, you can always restrict yourself to pistols and avoid the power armor. You could even ramp it up by not wearing any armor at all and going without stimpacks. Still though, it would be fun to have an uber-hard server where the people who hang really invested the time to navigate the world with care.

I guess if you love NPCs, you're out of luck. Try the local walmart, they hang out there in droves.

Server disconnection is a common thing, framerate dips, common bethesda bugs and glitches, enemies spawning out of the sky and you getting dropped inside a horde of enemies with no equipped weapons is just some of the things you can expect in the game.
That's just the technical side of things though and maybe bethesda will fix it, maybe...
One thing that bethesda can't fix is the empty open world, not without a massive patch that completely changes everything in the game, umm sorry did I say everything? 'massive patch that changes the game'. fallout 76 is bethesda's attempt to join the "Games as a service" movement.
Also, the engine hasn't aged well, bethesda seriously needs to develop a new engine for it's open world games.
Anyway, I can't recommend fallout 76 unless you wanna waste your $60 and question your life decisions.

This is simply an online demo of FO 4 nothing more and, at present at least, somewhat less. That is how it should have been announced, a demo with ongoing dlc improvements. Easy really, quite acceptable the fans would have been engaged, money would still be made (in game) and time to bed in the new engine they would have bought with the enormous amounts of cash we have paid out over the years.

The world is pretty enough though graphics are starting to feel dated, it is also very large and sparsely populated (dlc anyone?), there are two largish settlements to occupy you for 2-3 hours but no more, unless your "grinding". The silliest part about quest and story lines being handed out by the deceased is....... why were they busy doing "dear diary" entries (well just about) instead of panicking or preparing or looting or rooting....... absolutely bare minimum of immersion. Pretty easy to play solo, which is just as well unless you byo friends!

Gosh, by industry standards this is so far off the mark for a AAA in all areas, right down to a 50G launch day patch.... I refer you to my opening paragraphs.

Okay so lets get this started. First and foremost I am giving this a four not that it may deserve it entirely, in fact a three would probably be fair but hey its Fallout and no matter what I **** with Fallout. Truth be told this game is majorly lacking especially for a game in the Fallout world.

    1. NPC's or therefore the lack of any. There is just no life to this wasteland in 76, no settlers, no people, nothing but ghouls, robots, super mutants and obviously the scorched. It is literally a dead area with nothing but limited enemies, no bandits and few other players far an between. It majorly takes away from what made the Fallout series so good, and that is interacting with the settlers and kicking bandit ass.

    2. Caps. It is a major pain in the ass to get caps, the vendors in my opinion are a joke on top of a **** pile. They charge way too much, don't pay you **** for your goods and have a very low amount of caps to buy with. An once they run out of caps you literally have to wait for them to get more caps which is not worth the wait. Not even to mention that you literally have to pay caps to quick travel, like seriously, caps are a **** to get already and now we have to pay for quick travel?

    3. C.A.M.P Stash. This has to be one of my biggest peeves with this game. I am a hoarder, I like to collect everything and anything so I can craft and have a ready supply. The only small issue though or rather biggest issue is that your camp stash has literally no room for anything. I filled the damn thing up before beta even ended. An now I am stuck with the fact that my armor keeps breaking, my guns need repairing, I need to make stimps and everything else and I can't because I don't have anywhere to put my damn materials. I sure as hell can't carry the **** with me as I get over encumbered too quickly. Want a better review by a mile from me? Make the damn stash unlimited space like all Fallout games.

    4. I don't even need to mention the bugs, I feel like that has been established enough as it is. All games have bugs when they come out so I won't go into this deeply, but I would love when I killed something that it doesn't hump into the ground and I lose my ****.

This could go on an on but I won't bore you. This game is really lacking what made Fallout so great. The story, the lore, the npcs, bandits, it has good features to it but they are being drowned out by the ****ty features. At this point your just going through the motions and getting annoyed at the same time because you can't keep enough materials on hand to keep your armor fixed and your guns ready.

This game takes everything you loved about the Fallout serious, and scraps it. Then it adds on horrific lag, and terrible frame rates (even on a gtx 1080 on medium settings!) making combat an incredibly frustrating experience.

I used to love Bethesda games, but ... OMG. This is travesty. Ugly as hell (old engine), nothing to do, no story, nothing fun, BORING. We are not talking about waste of time boring - we are talking about torturing yourself boring. Even if you are a fanboy like I used to be. Try to think how bad it can be - its worse than that.

I had a very hard time trying to immerse myself in a game world which is populated by other players bunnyhopping around like a child on a sugar induced high and building stupid gravity defying bases. But even if you are lucky enough not to encounter other players ruining your roleplaying attempt, it doesn't really get all that much better. The world of Fallout 76 is simply empty. Empty of NPCs you could talk to, empty of interesting quests and empty of pretty much everything that usually makes RPGs enjoyable. Now let's talk about the online aspect of Fallout 76: In short it feels like baby's first survival game. The PVP system in which you can only kill other players if they attack you back makes the whole deal dreadfully dull for people who want to engage in it since you can't really kill those who don't want to be killed and an annoying nuisance for those who don't want to engage in it. In addition to that there is also no griefing or any other interaction with other players that usually makes games like Rust or DayZ a joy to play. This is what i was talking about in the beginning when i said that the game is fun for neither of the targeted audiences. If Bethesda would have went with an option to play offline and made the online part like most other survival games this would have not been an issue, but sadly Fallout 76 simply makes itself unappealing in both aspects by trying to force those two kind of experiences into one environment. What truly grinds my gears though is the technical side of this game and i'm not even talking about the countless bugs and glitches like enemies instantly respawning after you killed them or broken animations. No, i'm talking about the very basics of what a game should have: Field of view slider? Not in the game. Widescreen support for those who like to play in 21:9? Not in the game. The simplest things that even one man indie productions manage to include in their options menu are missing in Fallout 76. Don't even get me started on the performance issues, FPS drops are frequent and seemingly random since no amount of tweaking in the settings was able to give me a stable frame rate. All of this by the way in a game that is visually unimpressive. Fallout 76 looks almost completely identical to Fallout 4, which already looked pretty dated when it came out back in 2015. Oh, and the game also has the audacity to feature a microtransaction store despite being a full price release. Honestly i almost feel like i'm being generous when i give this game a 2/10, but it is at least somewhat playable and technically has content if you feel like counting kill x number of x enemies in x location without any meaningful context, as content. Fallout 76 is the single worst gaming experience i had in 2018. Don't buy it, not even at a discount. Expand

    In a word, boring.

It's a weird version of fallout 4 with worse graphics, several bugs, and clunky multiplayer. Honestly, at this point it's a hard pass.

    What it needs:
Better graphics settings - and utilization. It's not good.
Better ways of editing game settings, other than messing with the .ini
    Improved Key Mapping
    Weird Mob re-spawns.
    Etc.

Fallout 76 is the worst thing that could have ever happened to the Fallout franchise.

The story, an essential part of every prior Fallout game, is made completely uninteresting by the fact that instead of a branching, unique story where your actions affect the outcome, you are presented with a static sequence of terminals and holotapes that tell the story of what happened in Appalachia.

The story, an essential part of every prior Fallout game, is made completely uninteresting by the fact that instead of a branching, unique story where your actions affect the outcome, you are presented with a static sequence of terminals and holotapes that tell the story of what happened in Appalachia. This is due to the fact that 76 is completely devoid of human npcs, which often in itself spoils the story, because the best thing you could ever find at the end of a quest is a corpse and a holotape. Gone are the days of making interesting decisions and actual roleplaying like in previous Fallouts.

The world, while 4 times as big as Fallout 4s, feels empty. The lack of human npcs also makes raiders impossible, instead you always either fight some weird animal that doesn't do anything or ghouls/scorched (which are basically the same thing, but the scorched sometimes have guns). The enemies simply lack any personality. Also, locations are very far apart, so you have to walk, sometimes for 5 mins and upwards. This may not sound like much, but these minutes add up to multiple hours just spent walking.

The gunplay is absolutely terrible, it has barely improved since Fallout 4. In fact, with the necessary changes to make V.A.T.S. work in real time, the gunplay has gotten worse. V.A.T.S. is simply useless, it is always slower and less reliable than aiming, but aiming is also hard due to the stiff controlls and abrubtly changing animations of the enemies.

Those were just a few of the things that make the game as terrible as it is, there are more thigs, like the disgusting "atomic shop", Bethesda's **** premium currency store for useless cosmetics that should have been free to begin with, but I have neither the time nor the will to list all of Fallout 76's numerous flaws.

I really hope the game utterly fails, because if it doesn't, we'll be seeing more of this **** in the future.

Story, what there is of one, feels tired and massively incomplete. Getting tired of going from a terminal to a diary to a random note. Give me someone that talks!!! Oh look a robot... that's was nice... can we have them more often? At least i can pretend it's another player.
Killed a bat thing and its body slid away from me. and kept going and going and going... Wait a minute, I had this same bug in FO4. They still haven't fixed the bugs from FO4...
No VATS is a game killer for me. It's iconic of the Fallout games. Not having it makes the game seem like a COD, No Man's Sky crossover.
I am sick and tired of base building. At least in FO4 you had a purpose behind your bases. This seems to be nothing more than a place to stash things you hope won't get stolen. Not too worried though since I haven't seen anyone in hours.
They are charging $60 for a "multiplayer" FO4 expansion pack... and forgot to add players...

After completing the main campaign in Fallout 4, I poured dozens of hours into building up a robust network of settlements. My hope when Fallout 76 was announced was that it would play like Fallout 4 settlements, minus the NPCs, but with other players present.

I'm hoping Bethesda will get Fallout 76 there someday, but as it stands, Fallout 76 has too many bugs, one being nearly game breaking. But lets start out with some positives:

Fallout 76 looks nice. Its huge and there's great variety in the landscapes. There are lots and lots of quests, which seems to be one of better ways to get nice loot/gear. There are plenty of broken quests, but there are enough great ones so you can continue to the next and hope Bethesda patches them later. Fallout 76 also has tonnes of written and spoken flavor (in the form of holotapes), much like fallout 4. Perhaps even more.

Here is where Fallout 76 takes a huge hit: this game has no NPCs, but the community is supposed to build CAMPS and settlements where a lot of cooperative game play happens. On live servers however, you never see other player's camps, and the camps, settlements and farms you laboriously build vanish randomly. This makes the social part of Fallout 76 extremely one sided. Group up, kill stuff. No civilization building here.

Hopefully Bethesda has plans to fix this (God forbid this is functioning as designers intended!) Till then, 4/10 is the best I can give a single faceted multiplayer game.

The world has been created with so much love and detail, that I've had moments where I got goosebumps when I realized what happened with the citizens a long time ago. These stories are usually told by holotapes or terminals or also by letters. But the strongest tool Bethesda used was the world itself which often tells the deepest and most touching stories only by showing what's left of the people formerly living here and leaving the player to his own imagination.
This creates an immerse atmosphere I've only experienced in other Fallout games before but never at this level. I can't tell what's better, getting a deep dive into lone wolf explorers lifestyle or teaming up with the group I'm often playing with. It mostly depends on the mood I'm in because naturally the time I spend with actually studying and listening to the games lore is less when I'm playing in a group. The thing is: I really can't decide. It's hard to turn down an invitation of your friends. Coop is a blast in this game! But with the indirect story telling you can't be 100% focused on all the details with 3 friends talking in discord. Nevertheless, I absolutely support the decision of not having human NPCs in this game because it contributes so much to what makes this game so good!

Performance-wise I can't complain. The games looks good. Great for the Creative engine but only good for 2018. But it runs smoothly on 3440x1440 maxed out on my machine and the XBOX game-pad makes it feel like home, because I played all bethesda games that way. To be fair I have to say: it isn't necessary to use the Creative engine again in 2018 - at least not in this state with the same flaws since Morrorwind. I mean, mouse and keyboard controls feel clunky and not thought through and there are still bugs which have to be known because they are in the game since Fallout 4. But these critics weigh so less compared, because the game represents what Bethesda's good at and why we love their games. I mean, I can't give 10/10. The game isn't perfect but it surely is 90%!

This is the last time I buy a game as a pre-order. And probably the last time I'll ever buy a Bethesda game.

What is Fallout without the factions fighting for power, heartbreaking stories and awesome companions?

The game strongest point - its combat system - is unresponsive and laggy. Meelee build is just impossible or not worthy.

And i am very disappointed of the result ... I'm not mad against what is the game now, but for what it could have been. There was so many ways to turn Fallout into a really good multiplayer experience, and this one doesn't work.

The main problem of the game is not his bugs (even if this is a shame to release a game full of bugs with the same price of RDR 2 ...), it's his heart.
It's like if bethesda didn't carry his balls and made an unassumed version of their successfull game. This is neither a good MMORPG or a good COOP game, however they try to put the maximum of multiplayer contents in their game like if the quantity took precedence over quality.
This is not how you do Bethesda. You have to make a choice, choose to make a Fallout CO-OP, or a full MMORPG but not a **** mix of the two games.
I really hope they will learn from that and wont do the same mistake anymore. I have been refunded, but i hope they will at least work on the bugs to show a minimum of respect to those who bought the game 60$.

Thank you, now a quick reviews of the good and bad points of the game :

+ Map size, and how it's done
    + Diversity of it
    + C.A.M.P. original idea ...

    - ... but done the wrong way
    - 2010 graphics
    - PVP is horrible
    - SVAR vision , seriously ? (That's basicaly an aimbot in a multiplayer game)
    - Tiny stamina (at least at the beginning)
    - Useless hunger/thirst bars
    - Poverty of the history (if we can call that an history)
    - Some perks are useless (very very useless)
    - No NPC
    - Tons of bugs (including the CAMP reseting if there is another camp near to yours)
    - A lot of things in the world, but soon enough you realize it's pretty empty

I really feel bad about this as i used to love bethesda productions ... But this is a shame. Don't buy it if it costs more than 10$.
