Sigh, folks just can’t get their head around something new. They want the same old Fallout, over and over again. They want to march around without any real challenge and get frustrated when their every wish for complete domination is not instantly satisfied. The game is great, I’m enjoying the hell out of it. Real players are much more interesting than cardboard NPCs.

This game is getting review bombed hard for no reason other than, "It doesn't have X in it! This isn't MY FALLOUT." Calm the hell down people, yes this game is flawed. No, it's not a complete dumpster fire worthy of a 0 score. In reality I think this is about $20 overpriced so those on the fence should wait for a sale.

Game is perfectly fine. There are some teething issues and some normal Bethesda bugs but this is par for the course for Bethesda and the same as Skyrim or Fallout 4 in terms of bugs.

This game plays like a sandbox MMO and manages to do it very well. Its not for everyone (See all the individuals upset that this isn't New Vegas 2 or a Single player RPG) but if you're a fan of the Fallout game play loop with a light MMO vibe, this game is very addicting.

While Fallout in name this is definitely not the single player Fallout experience you're used to. Instead of dialogue tree's largely feeding you the story, you as the player are dropped into a largely NPC void world pushed into digging up the story behind mysteries and events that take place in this game through Holotapes, Notes, Terminals, and the occasional Robot NPC. If you've played through Darksouls or Bioshock, its very similar.

The progression system is more indepth than that of Fallout 4 and i'd consider it a major improvement. In Fallout 4 there was no thought behind your choices. You could end up with any and all skills as well as maxed out specials at some point during your play time. With Fallout 76 you are limited in how many special points you may place which limits how many perk cards you can take depending your point allocation. This promotes building a character to fill a specific role which is something that was sorely missed from previous Fallout titles.

The world is expansive and beautiful. My major issues with Fallout games of the past was the limited biomes in each game. 76 manages to change things up with multiple different location biomes that show off varying color pallets and themes as you explore them making it very easy to get lost in the world provided to you.

Free DLC! Yep, Bethesda will be supporting the game with free DLC for its entire life cycle! Which is always a welcome thing to see in a gaming universe that is now seemingly dominated with Triple A titles selling players cut content in the form of DLC.

This game DOES have flaws. While it is most definitely fun to play and a great time, this game is host to a few issues you should be made aware of.

This game is clearly a console port done pretty poorly. It lacks a lot of features and options in the client that are pretty common place in most PC games which forces you to play around with your INI file to solve most of them. That being said, not all options can be solved with the INI. Push to talk being a feature that makes sense just not being in the game.

This is a Bethesda title. Meaning its plagued by some of the same issues you'd expect from a Bethesda title. Like their game engine tied to FPS, or various performance hitches in crowded areas of the map. While some of this can be fixed while adjusting your INI it doesn't solve all problems and can definitely be a pain in the butt.

For what its worth this IS a good game. However if you're looking for your typical single player Fallout this is not going to be it but again that doesn't make this game bad.

This game is an easy 7 1/2 or an 8. However, i'm giving it a 10 to help counteract the four chan brigade hitting this game with 0's because they're upset that the game isn't New Vegas 2.

    + Uses FO4 mechanics.

    - Shallow RPG story for low single player emotional engagement.

When people say there aren't any NPCs, they either don't know what they are talking about or they mean their aren't live human quest-givers. You will encounter many NPCs and help them along or take the traditional steps of appeasing them.

Current bugs involve the rare quest tracking issue, encountered it once and fixed via relog. Main annoyance is that the game is fussy about moving bases from one location to another when it comes to transferring a structure to unlevel ground. This is still the most expansive base-building has been in this franchise.

I love that the game is an ongoing, online effort for reasons of keeping it live and updated with fixes and improvements. Combined with future modding and 76 has the potential to be the most supported and updated and patched game Bethesda has ever released. I look forward to updates..

(Most of which is from Obsidian Fanboys & Antisocial Pessimistic people who just want another single player experience because they're scared of social interaction)

This game is a refreshing take on the Fallout formula, it's an excellent addition to the franchise, and will only get better as time goes on as new content is added (for free as-well, No paid DLC will release for this game) There are many features that i wish was in Fallout 4, such as Crafting weapons & Armor from scratch. Also there are endless possibilities for this game, Want to have a little farm and grow food to sell to other players? Totally possible, Want to raid other player's Workshops to steal their resources & Claim it for yourself? Totally possible. Want to gang up with strangers, making friends, & completing quests & events together? Totally possible, i could go on and on. Literally the only issue i had with this title is some frame-rate slow downs in certain areas, but that is an easy fix that an optimization patch would clear up. This game has loads of potential and is a ton of fun, Totally worth the $60 price tag. While playing solo is possible, it is more fun with friends, but going rogue & playing solo also has its perks. I'd highly recommend you try this game for yourself, Ignore the hate that this game is getting because it's currently trendy to hate on it. Every issue people have with this game is trivial and fixable.

The PVP system is also great, for example, if a high level player attack you, don't reply and the damage will be very low, so you can escape, if he kill you, he's marked as "criminal" and other players could attack him ;) otherwise, you can fight as usual, the good thing is, when a lower level try to catch your "treasure" you can shoot him a bit, to keep the place ;)

This is the worst version of Fallout I have played. Fallout 76 is an empty world with no hint of a story and no motivation to spend hours walking through this empty wasteland. The constant harassment of the new hunger meter, thirst meter, and disease meters combined with online play make this game feel like a large scale mobile phone game that your not supposed to put down. The inclusion of the paid in game store currency "atom" supports this point. The quest system constantly spams your screen and I have found several major quests unplayable due to major bugs. The event system seems great in theory but it has you walking all over the wasteland to further pad the game with pointless objectives. Save your caps and skip this one.

That was a shock to me given the things i have heard... i assure you, this is a Fallout experience, only with other players and no human NPC's (YET!)

The bugs are annoying, sure, but over 40 hours of gameplay later and i can count on one hand how many times my wife and i have both disconnected. The performance needs tweaking, it's definitely not the best and i expect it to improve with time. The worst issue is losing quest progress on daily/side missions if you DC. Most other bugs are the traditional Bethesda, "do i laugh at this or throw my mouse?" bugs. But it WILL get old quick if things aren't ironed out, i'm willing to give them a chance. I will join the pitchfork and torch wielding masses in a few months if they aren't, but i'm not a child, i understand how game development works!

As an online game, Bethesda's first, i expected bugs and poor performance... that's what i got. As time goes on, i expect less bugs, and better performance, along with DLC to keep me going and quality of life changes. Being an MMO gamer since EverQuest (1999) i'm very used to games like this launching in a terrible state, and being molded together with community and dev alike! Speaking of community, this one is great so far! Very helpful high level players exist everywhere, it's not uncommon to walk out of the vault with stimpacks and guns at your feet in little paper bags! I myself am going back to the vault to leave packages for newbies! We just need notes so we can leave messages :)

Embrace this time if you like shaping games. If you insist on a feature complete product... steer clear of this and any other MMO's on the market, they aren't for you!

I have enjoyed the changes from the Fallout 4 recipe, making food and water required as well as bringing back weapon condition.
I would highly recommend playing with friends, otherwise you might as well be playing Fallout 3/NV/4 instead.
The areas and enemies are diverse and unique as compared to other games.

I feel it is worth reiterating that this is not Fallout 5, you can read basically any other review to see why you might be disappointed from that perspective. I applaud Bethesda for trying to break the mold and make something unique, even if the end result isn't perfect.

The future of this game will all depend on how Bethesda responds to player feedback.

TL;DR - misunderstood powergamers heaven, PvP dream thats a nightmare if you won't git gud.

    The good:
    Excellent exploration.
    Environmental storytelling of superb quality.
Obscure, vaguely described, engaging PvP mechanics, so far poorly understood by the community, makes the pro vs pro PvP excellent. Writing this from a perspective of Titanfall veteran, this is a ridiculously interesting shooter.
Regular updates and new free content.
Initially, it tried to carter to various needs within a single gamemode, raising concerns within the players (i.e. coop people unwillingly exposed to PvPers). This has been solved since by implementation of new game modes.
    Alive and rather friendly community.
If you wanted to play Stalker, Battlefield and The Sims at the same time, Fallout 76 enables that.

    The bad:
The list of bugs, while shrinking, still is few hundred positions long. Gamebreakers were all fixed tho.
RNG has too big of role in equipment gathering, and its super ineffective. The main effective way to finish your character is to use player-to-player trading.
Staple element of Fallout - influencing and shaping the world around you - has not been provided yet (06.2019). Discussed Wastelanders DLC might change that in the future.

So far spent 900 hours in game so its well worth my money. Still got **** of stuff to do, hence will most probably continue playing.

Playing since the beta, I can confirm most of the critic received was deserved (though being honest, seeing the "Most Helpful" critic on this website by Gorveth, 90% of that was provably wrong or incorrect, but the game did have its flaws during the Beta and early launch)

While I do agree Game Companies should release full working games, it was the first time they were trying for an online multiplayer game, on a genre that wasnt done before, so kudos for them for still sticking to the game even after the deserved backlash
(Also, why do people make a point by saying "hurr but the canvas/muh bottle" if it isnt related to the gameplay? The canvas alone I do agree was a reason to boycott it but throwing it around like it matters on the gameplay is stupid)

It has been 7 months or so since the release, and I am happy with the way the game has come along.

    Neutral points:
-Story that isnt only told by "robots", focused more on exploration. Some people might not like that, they might want the story not shouted at you by robots, but by "NPCs" (which are AI, anyway, by the way)

    - They are adding NPCs in upcoming Expansions.

    - There is a Battle Royale which is entirely optional, but you get cosmetics, level and money for your character on Adventure mode (The "basic" mode)

-Multiplayer: This can be either good or bad, not only depending on your views but because Players are different, some might help you and some might try and grief you (There are lots of system to prevent griefing though, so don't expect anyone blowing your stuff)

    Pros:
-Huge exploration oriented. Game tells mini story in almost every room of every mark points (and even on unmarked places)

-CAMP building is pretty neat, access for creative players to show their work to other players. Or create amazing death traps. Which are fun, by the way.

-Lots of Event quests (which some people mistook for repeatable quests)
These EVENTS are happening in many places of the map. These are random "quests" on some areas that grant you things to do, rewards, and fun! (For example, there are events where you can manually repair a nuclear power plant; extract uranium ores while defending from waves of monsters; Act like an angry biker group drinking, playing music loudly and drinking booze to summon a [REDACTED])

-WORKSHOPS are public "camps" you can capture and modify to your liking. They all have some kind of unique specialty to them. For example, the Power Plants are all workshops too, there's a structure in each that you can power up to generate Fusion Cores (for your power armor and some weapons). And since you're in a Power Plant, there are some Electric Boxes that count as Generators and provide energy for you! And more power if the Power Plant is repaired.
I also like giving the example of the ammo factory workshop, the closest Power Plant also provides energy on an Electric Box there for you to use, so even if you don't own the Power Plant workshop, you might want to repair it anyway! (Along with the rewards for completing an event)

-The music selection. Running away from monsters while listening to "Flight of the Bumblebee" never gets old.

-Most of the player base is actually very helpful, creative, and fun all around. But as I said on "neutral point", this is a random factor sometimes.

    -Bugs are actually being fixed!

-Future expansions are free for players.

-There are more points, but I'm affraid more would be spoiling some of the experience.

    Cons:
Not going to get into the disaster that was beta but:

-Server stability is still problematic. I rarely get disconnects but my friends sometimes do, and it can happen on the worst of situations

-End game still feels lacking (Bound to change with the new upcoming Expansion, but so far it feels bland)

    -Bugs are still a reality.

-Though they did manage to fix some unfixable engine problems (the unlocked FPS problems for example, among a few others actually), the engine feels outdated, it is something they could try working on.

-Bad popularity. Friends laughing at you playing a game hurt sometimes :(

Overall: As a huge Fallout fanboy (2 is my favorite, and while I do agree New Vegas had the most Fallout feel of the 3D ones, I kinda disliked it) This game feels like Fallout 4 online. And being honest, it is hard to imagine it any different, it is a take on a good way. Still needs polishing, but if the price is accessible enough, I suggest getting it and give it a try, and understand why reading reviews is risky.

It's basically Fallout 4 but with enforced survival mode and multiplayer. Really not as bad now as it was at launch, you should give it a try.

Bethesda has done a lot to fix some of the issues, and starting to look up. Still plentiful amount of bugs, but playable, like any other Bethesda game. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hope it keeps going up from here.

I bought it because I wanted a new Fallout world to explore and I had heard the game could be done solo which was important to me because I don't usually have someone to team with. The game world itself is great. There's a huge variety of places to explore and enemies to fight. There is lore hidden everywhere. Back in November there were really only two large quests, the main quest and a side quest which was not enough. There were also a bunch of events, recurring misc quests, and daily quests (probably two dozen of all of these but they trigger randomly per server so you only ever see about 5 at any given time). It was easy to miss a lot of content if you weren't really looking for it. With the updates since November they've added a few good side quests and a lot of new events/recurring/daily quests (probably double the amount or more). They also added two other game modes other than adventure. There's now a dedicated pvp and battle royale mode which are both pretty good (or easily ignorable if they're not your thing).

The biggest improvement they've done though is update the vendor and trading systems. NPC vendors share a cap pool, so no more wasting time going from vendor to vendor because of their 200 cap limit. You can now sell 1400 caps worth to one vendor. They also added a legendary gear vendor where you can scrap and buy legendary gear.

Better than that, they added player loadable vending machines where players can sell anything they find or make. It's brought a huge amount of life to the game because you are constantly meeting other players and getting to see what great (or not great) things they built with the building system. There are also some great role players out there in the community and overall (on PC at least) the community is very friendly.

They've done pretty well keeping microtransactions from ruining the game as the only things you can buy that aren't obtainable easily in game are cosmetic stuff. They have repair kits you can buy but you can get better ones (they repair more) for free from high level enemies and overall the repair kits are fairly pointless because workbenches repair everything to a higher condition level for free.

They've also been pretty good about continually patching out bugs every week or two (but as with every previous falliout game they never get them all and always seem to add a new one for every dozen they fix).

There are still issues with some basic (not game breaking) bugs with challenges and certain random things that they haven't patched for no apparent reason. There are still some weapons notably explosives) that aren't balanced properly and are too weak. They also tend to make new content difficult to find as if it's a continual easter egg hunt. New side missions are generally on the bulletin board at a train station but they like to put a lot of other stuff (looking at you, scout badges) in weird places like on the bottom of the world challenge lists in the pause menu where nobody would look.

I've put several thousand hours combined into previous Fallout titles and so far have a little over 500 hours into this one and with the continual improvements and added content I don't expect to run out of things to do. Despite the flaws and the rocky start I now hold the game in the same high regard as the previous Fallout titles.

Been playing faithfully since the beta. It had its rough patches in the beginning, and was off to a rocky start. However, Bethesda has stuck behind this game and continues to support, update, and improve. The player base is super helpful and the community is great, I'll definitely be playing this game for years to come, and you should definitely give it a try.

I've been playing since the beta and still love the game. It's a blast to play - the amount of content, world complexity and general fun coming from this game honestly cannot be compared to no other vidya. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who liked the franchise till now, but was on the fence due to the negativity campaign towards this product. It's a quality game with amazing community.

This will be sort of late review, but I want to give my two cents. I have of course seen the YouTube videos, like "The Fall of 76", which more deals with the aspects outside the actual game, and the videos going through the bugs and so forth. But here I will give my opinion on gameplay, immersion and general thoughts.

But here I will give my opinion on gameplay, immersion and general thoughts.

I preordered the game, tried the BETA (which left me confused), and then played it the day it came out (more or less, think I was on a bender so it might have been a few days after). I think my expectations were still aligned towards something like Fallout 4, even though I knew the difference, and I dropped it and left it until last week.

I decided to go into it with a clear mind, and just take it as it is. I love the lore and love the world. Although I have not played 1 and 2 (was more of a Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale guy back then, and don't enjoy pure turn-based combat), I have enjoyed 3, NV and 4 many, many times.

And I like it. I like it a lot.

There are issues, of course. There is a fast-travel point with a Snappycaster that does not move, my Daily events seem to be 0/5 all the time no matter how many I do, Blueprints budget is small (this was a missunderstanding of my part though, I don't dare to move my nice house), it is easy to step into events right at the end, and reap the benefits. And of course the normal Bethesda **** in terms of bugs.

That aside, the environment is so nice to roam. Especially the forest areas. The quests are not as repeatable as a thought. I have only played a bit if WoW around 2006 and SWTOR around 2012 so I am not an expert on these kind of games though.

Crafting system is right up my alley. Slowly building your base, collecting plans, scavenging and taking over Gorge junkyard now and then (hey, only level 21 so far).

I hated the C.A.M.P. system at first before I got the hang of it. Now I know that I need to keep building size down to blueprint properly, and looking forward to creating my new camp in a more village-like style. A crafting barn, living quarters, scavenging equipment and so on. However, for now I live at Morgantown Station.

The Perk-system. I had some trouble in the beginning, but catched up, finally got Gun-nut to five stars yesterday so my guns do not break ALL THE TIME!!! Also, I have created sort of a plan for level up for the next 25 levels or so, did it kind of randomly before.

Yesterday was also the first time I played with a friend. We talked over TeamSpeak and I helped him out through his first levels. Very nice indeed. He built a small base close to mine and we had a good time overall.

So, when I put aside any dreams of Fallout 5 or whatever I really wanted, and see this as part of the lore and the Fallout world and as an individual game that tries something new I am very happy I gave it another chance.

Fallout 76 is the kind of game where you get out what you put in. The great thing is, you can put that effort into so many different options and play styles. Want to be a housebuilder? Build a house! Want to run around helping new players (as many people do)? Go for it! Now, with the addition of Battle Royale, and an upcoming new main quest featuring NPCs, is the time to check the game out!

This game isn't for everyone. It's not Call of Duty or Fortnite. For anyone not familiar with Fallout, this is a post-apocalyptic survival game. You are one of the few survivors after nuclear holocaust wiped out most of humanity. Everyone above ground who survived the blast struggled to survive, but eventually torn each other apart; one way or another. As the last survivors, you and your friends exit an underground vault to rebuild civilization from the ashes. It is a slow moving game, and no one is left alive to step up and order you around. That's precisely why I love it - no one is dictating to me how I should play the game.

Fallout 76 brings you a mutated toxic wasteland in a post-apocalyptic survival world where you can get together with friends (or make new ones) while exploring the ruins of of a near-future civilization. It's much more of a survival game than a combat game. You have to learn to build a C.A.M.P., to purify water, and to break down junk to build equipment and structures. Like other Fallout games, there is a lot of humor in the game for those who like sarcastic wit or dark humor. Your character will die if you don't eat and drink regularly. You catch and suffer diseases from eating uncooked meat, drinking dirty water, or being attacked by diseased mutant animals. Unlike other open and semi-realistic survival horror games, I can actually save my progress, and then pick it back up whenever I have time.

Below are the top comments I've heard from this games detractors, and why I personally think they're ridiculous. Hopefully this will help anyone who would actually enjoy the game, but is scared by the negative reviews. Some of the complaints were legitimate when posted, but may not be aptly applied to the game today.

    Top complaints from other reviewers:
    1. "There is no story."
    2. "The game doesn't work."
    3. "It's a cash grab scam."

    First: "There is no story."

One of the most common complaints I heard early on was "there is no story". The game has multiple quest lines that give you an inside look into the rise, life, and fall of each of the worlds major factions; Responders, Free States, Brotherhood of Steel, Raiders (and the various factions within), Enclave, etc. Each quest line introduces characters and events that often cross over with the others. The story is told slowly. As you explore the wasteland, you come across abandoned settlements, ruined bunkers, collapsed houses and buildings, booby-traps, a wide variety of mutated wildlife, demented humanoid mutants, friendly and hostile robots, and corpses. Some people don't like that the only friendly NPCs are robots, with the exception of a couple of shop keepers (a Super Mutant and a Mole Miner). Personally, I don't find the robots to be much different from "human" NPCs. Either way, they aren't actually human.

    Second: "The game doesn't work"

As far as performance and stability, I was a B.E.T.A. tester who pre-ordered. Since launch, Bethesda has released regular updates and frequent hot fix patches to address the issues their community reports to them. I have found very few companies that provide the quick response to issues like Bethesda. They even worked over the Christmas week, and most of the "news" online that reported on the inventory hack came out AFTER the exploit was already locked down. Through regular updates, Bethesda has made the game pretty stable. 76 crashes less for me than Fallout 4 and New Vegas do through Steam.

Third: "It's a cash grab scam."

I pre-ordered Fallout 76 for $60, was a B.E.T.A. tester, and have over 1000 hours on record playing Fallout 76, across 5 unique characters. I've spent less than $0.08 USD for each hour that I've enjoyed playing Fallout 76 (including a full year subscription to Fallout 1st). There is plenty to do in Fallout 76 to justify the cost, and I've seen it as low as $30 today.

There is no mandatory per month fee to keep playing (something I hate about many other MMORPGs). There is nothing in the game that you cannot unlock without spending any more money after buying. The premium currency (Atoms) can be earned by completing daily and weekly quests. The monthly subscription for Fallout 1st does guarantee you an on-demand private server, plus other in-game bonuses that offer minor conveniences. I chose to subscribe to Fallout 1st because I play enough that the ~$8.33/mo. for the annual subscription is very affordable. Even with the low cost of renting a private server on an on-demand hourly basis, Bethesda can't be making much money on me with this "cash grab".

    Closing thoughts:

It's sad that so many people post negative reviews for this game right after it came out as a beta. It's even more sad that so many people simply say they hate the game while openly admitting they haven't played it.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]
