Fallout should always be single player so we can create mods and so you are not stuck with a bunch of idiot kids playing online with you, an online option for those that want it would be fine. Fallout should also have NPCs, without them this game is dead and dull, the graphics in Fallout 76 are also a joke they look like any other game from five years ago or more they are just plain outdated. The load times are very long and the controls are confusing, ammo and weapons are garbage and hard to find so defeating enemies is extremely difficult, so really all you can do is try to run away and hope your stamina will last long enough to escape. I was going to buy five more copies for others I know but having played it for about thirty hours now I am just going to delete the game and hope they do better on the next Fallout or they will surely go bankrupt as a company. Don't Buy This Game!!! Expand

They really need a way to check if people actually bought the game, before allowing them to post here.

The game is buggy, but it's not bad at all, it's not broken. It's incredibly fun, runs great, and is secure.

Actually research before you judge - don't jump on the arbitrary hate fad, just copy/pasting the same nonsense.

Hello, I will try in brief ...
My story with Fallout began in the distant 1997-8 years, when I first played the first part, my happiness knew no bounds, played it for many hours, climbed every grain of sand, then the women of Fallout 2, all that I very fond of, now twice as much !!! Juhu.
And in part 2, I played until the very release of Fallout TBOS (I didn’t play on consoles), and this part went wiped out, I had my own delight from every part, no matter what!
And then ... there was a crisis, a crisis that never changes, and I find out that InterPlay and BlackIsle can no longer work on projects, and even the company that did Tactics - Micro Forté, also does not want to do it, and then I realized that this is probably all ...
According to the law of the genre in the gaming industry, everything returns to normal in 8 years (Blizzard is so fond of doing it) and I find out that part 3 is coming out, you have no idea how glad I was to hear that! I was one of the first who bought it on the day of sales, yes, even then the games came out on CDs! Then a bunch of add-ons came out and all that, I played again, naturally no one expected or expected that the game would be in turn-based mode as before, because the 21st century is in the yard!
And as if I did not hesitate at the beginning, but I also liked the game as a whole, because this is the very same Fallout, just version 2.0 from already 5 companies (you know, 7 nannies, and a child without an eye (I just counted ZeniMax ))
But I forgave them everything, because I was waiting for the game no matter what. Whatever it was, I would love it, and that’s what happened ...
And not having time to play enough in part 3, it comes out NEW WEGAS, and then just again BABAH !!! the same 3 Fallout, but as with the 2 part, all that we love is only many times bigger and better!
Thanks to the 6 companies (nanny) Obsidian, so that so finalized and worked the game ...
Then 4 years pass, and here we have - tadam - Fallout 4 ... and again I am very pleased with the game, no matter what it is, but after playing it, I understand that something is wrong with it, and I decided to read it first in my life , someone else's comments, and I see that the entire Internet is pouring mud from all the hoses on it! ... I thought, oh God, if they don't calm down, or no one will intercede in Fallout 4, they will ruin the game again the same way they did this is about 10 years ago, but then the noise seemed to subside, and I’m so, well, thank God, there are add-ons for Far Harbor, Nuka-World, etc. then VR, everything seems to be satisfied, everything is quietly calm, except that Todd Howard’s heart is in the spirit. Apparently there was a huge scar! ... and because of the trolls, he decided, so who the hell does it matter, no matter what we do, the game will still be spit up, you do it well, they don’t like it, you do it well, they’re wrong again, you squeeze it the last juice - people are burning and pouring acid again! and here, all his sadness and sadness showed itself!
    2018 - Fallout 76 release
and again the game starts to burn on the fire !!! PEOPLE, and what are you waiting for, you **** up your criticism of the 3-NW-4 part! and waited for the company wants to shoot 76 ?? you are mistaken for the developers to make the game, they need to be respected, appreciated, loved and cherished by them and the main thing is to believe in them, so if Todd Howard and his friends ever read the thread, know no matter what, thank you for the Fallout if he wasn’t, I believe in you, and even if it’s just the respect of a single devoted fan, but I think it’s better than a crowd of distracted fanatics! for this, I want you not to limp, and bring the game to the end, of course, the prizes are no longer collected, but you must make a worthy receiver, the game, !!!

Probably because this game hit my right switches. I am really happy to share a Fallout game with friends. I did not liked the fact that this was online instead of only coop but... my fear was unfounded, people I encountered so far were friendly and since encountering others is so rare, you actually take the time to interact with them, this was a unexpected surprise.

The game is, in my experience, focused around sniffing around ruined buildings, looting junk, building bases, taking pictures, and killing enemies. While I can understand there is usually more than that (like lore, story and meaningful choices) in a usual Fallout game (and there is, but it is not the strong point of this opus), I often found that the part I ended up doing and enjoying the most in Fallout games are exactly what I mentioned Fallout 76 was about, so, it hit my right switches.

There was also the focus around taking pictures which I found was silly, but again, I was surprised. You may not get out of a place with much loot or experience but you mostly always do with memories and having pictures of it is really nice to remember what you have been trough. I must be honest that at times, It felt more like being a tourist in a strange country than a survival game since it is not that dangerous when grouped, and I loved it.

I agree with a lot of the criticisms, I consider Fallout 76 fair to good, and I rate it 6/10 to 7/10 (I rounded up) — but that's coming from a player whose absolute favorite games are Fallout 3, NV & 4. For me to be saying "fair" to "good" or be rating it a 6/10 to 7/10 is the equivalent of a less franchise-loyal gamer rating it 3/10 or 4/10.

For me to be saying "fair" to "good" or be rating it a 6/10 to 7/10 is the equivalent of a less franchise-loyal gamer rating it 3/10 or 4/10.

I have played something like 6 to 8 hours so far and just reached level 10. I was concerned I was truly going to find myself bored, but I've been managing to enjoy myself reasonably well. The moment I discovered the first robot to trade with, I was able to earn enough caps by selling loot to use the fast travel and base camp relocation abilities, which are key to making exploration and questing less of a slog. I have felt the tingle of excitement upon encountering a new area, getting quests — especially if there's a voiced robotic NPC quest giver, which is honestly just as good as a voiced human NPC quest giver in my opinion — and hunting down the various enemies while trying to achieve my goals. While the absence of raiders and mercs is quite noticeable, what's really missing are the neutral to friendly NPC communities. Take a place like Covenant in Fallout 4. You meet them, they test you, they tentatively accept you and you suspect there's something amiss with the town. There is a number of ways to proceed, and the choices you make result in significant differences as to how this side-story plays out. So far, it seems Fallout 76 will not and cannot offer players experiences like that.

The bottom line for me is that Fallout 76 feels like a stand-alone DLC with a simple premise: Bethesda will set you up with a very large play area as a sandbox to play in, 80%-90% legacy world lore from the other games in the franchise, player survival mechanics and enough basic, repeatable quests to motivate you to continue. As a committed lone player, it does in fact get quite lonely and spare, but if I were paying $20-$25 for this privilege, rather than the $60 I paid, I would say it is definitely worth the experience.

The good news is that it's more of Fallout. Quirky quests, looting, radio stations, open world exploration.

The bad news is it could have been so much better with a large world of players interacting and building and fighting. How cool if this had been Player's Unknown meets Fallout rather than Fallout with a multiplayer function that doesn't really matter.

But above all else, the game is BEYOND buggy, RAMPANT client AND server crashing, invisible enemies, models that look like they came from Steven Carpenter's "The Thing", and a completely salvageable garbage-fire that is the game's CAMP and settlement systems.

I gave the game a 1 instead of a 0 for only one reason, and thats because the world itself is very visually impressive, once you modify the game's .ini file to remove the world's worst depth of field ever put in a videogame and increase the field of view above the "Porthole" default setting.

My mistake. So here I am on Metacritic creating an account to write a review about it.

Fallout 76 is not like Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas, 4, or even Tactics. There are no meaningful choices to make. Many of the quests appear to be randomly-generated repeats or mild variations with different scorched red things to fight. There are no characters. There are stories, but they're in the form of depressing audiotapes and looting corpses.

The perks system is interesting. I really like the mechanics of opening packs and filling slots with different cards to create unique builds. Every new character would be a completely unique experience based on those random draws. Unfortunately, the system is constrained by multiplayer balance and why can't I lockpick, what was I training for in the vault my whole life, this should be an essential and basic skill known by every wunderkind in the vault... though some of the cards have funny pictures in the Fallout style.

The graphics are also nice. Appalachia is presented well and the soundtrack was just starting to grow on me. I'd just stumbled across an interesting little shack in the woods when

"Hey man, you want to join up to do some quests, easy gold!"

Three voices start blaring out on the computer speakers, completely erasing the immersion of the Appalachian setting. I hadn't joined any party voice or set any public interaction settings. It was jarring especially when they started shooting at me after I didn't reply (wasn't wearing headphones).

So I'm giving this version of Fallout a bad score. True, I shouldn't have spent money on it without checking what it really was first, or I would have waited for it to go on sale in a few months. Despite that leaving a bad taste in my mouth, the game is a disappointment and I hope future Fallout games don't follow the same route, and return to the engaging characters, moral dilemmas, and unique stories from the previous games. Instead random strangers shout at you and chase away any hope of immersive storytelling.

There are 20€ early access survival games made by tiny indie studios that are better in every single possible way. How did they allow this game to be released is beyond me, but hey people will give us 60€ and maybe we will fix it in couple of months... or years... or never... lets just release mod support so that modders can do it for us. Let's then charge people for mods.
There are bugs in this game that exist since freaking Oblivion, yet "that biggest team ever, everyone is crazy focused on this game, best we make" dev team doesn't fix it.

Everything that defined Fallout game before has been removed or simplified to extreme in this game.
    Perks, SPECIAL, VATS system, NPC's

What we are left with is a hollow husk of a once wonderful, mature universe. Hey but you can do emotes now... hurray. **** Bethesda, **** Todd Howard for ruining this franchise. We want Fallout 2 in modern engine not this buggy, ugly piece of **** you give us.
Old disgusting, buggy, broken engine that is 7y old.

But I decided to remain optimistic because I'm loyal to the franchise. I played the BETA and my initial concerns were debunked. I expected to have a WoW experience with other players running around constantly and having to wait my turn to do quests, griefing etc. What I received was the opposite. This game is overwhelmingly lonely, repetitive and does nothing to entice me to continue playing. There's just no immersion at all. No one to talk to, no real goal in mind. You can walk and walk and walk and see absolutely nothing but ghouls, scorched and Chinese robots. I think Bethesda made a fatal error by removing the NPC factor. NPC factions, quest lines and companions were some of the funnest and immersive qualities of Fallout. It kept you hanging in and wanting to know what happened next, and gave you something to work toward. And now, there's just literally nothing. This honestly seems like a half-assed attempt. It feels more Fallout knock-off than true Fallout. It's just not what I expect from Bethesda. I almost think they decided to throw out this release and fix it along the way instead of having a ready to play game. I will probably continue to play every now and then just to see if it gets better, and as I said, I'm loyal to the franchise. It breaks my heart that this is what was given to me as the next installment of my favorite game. I just hope they turn some of it around. Expand

Everyone I've met has wanted to either trade, team up or pvp, I really thought the pvp would be a joke because of the nearly 0 damage thing but people seem to engage often with me. It has the best map I've seen from bethesda and the environmental storytelling stuff is great solo (not great in a team where you don't have as much time to just listen to tapes or sift through terminals).

I love the survival mechanic and weight limit, I really enjoyed it when they added it to fallout 4 and I understand why people would be frustrated with it. The housing stuff is pretty cool too, I found a lead deposit in the ground near a raider train station up on a mountain top so I set up a bullet factory and have been making a killing selling bullets to new players.

Now the game IS a buggy mess, most stuff is visual glitches which don't bother me too much, the real and biggest issue (I'm playing on ps4) automatic weapons cause stutter about 25% of the time? It seems to be the farther from the vault you are the worse it gets and this is honestly unacceptable. A few quests are bugged, I've crashed once in 30 hours, the game occasionally hitches when it loads a new area, sometimes grenades just fall through the floor if you aim straight down, and certain enemies like the grafton monster will just stop moving for some reason.

The hate bandwagon is totally overblown, the game is decent, would be great if not buggy.

Not that it matters any way, you will get bored long before.
There are quests in the game, told by robots and holotapes.
The holo tapes can be long narratives recorded by people that lived there before.
One problem is that they can be so long that they get interrupted by radio transmissions and there is no way to go back and listen to that holotape again.
So if there was important information at the end of it, you wont here it.
Right now you should not buy this game, wait a year for the 2019 winter sale.
Perhaps by then they will have put in the options for setting your FOV and added a Push to Talk option.

Taken on its own, the game is not bad. It could be better, there are bugs but they're pretty minor. The lack of NPC humans, both friendly and not, is a glaring omission and makes the game feel a little lifeless. Some of the mechanisms you liked from the Fallout 3, 4 and New Vegas are missing due to the MMO aspect.

    However...

It captures the Fallout feel, the gameplay is close to identical and rewards careful play rather than run and gun. Yes, combat is clunky but then again it always has been. It doesn't make it bad, just different. You have to be more careful and cautious which some may find dull in comparison to pure FPS like COD but then maybe this game isn't for them.

All in all, F76 is best viewed as a cutdown version of Fallout 4 that can be played with a group of your friends. If you're playing it solo then you will be disappointed. As a group it doesn't exactly shine but it's a solid co-op experience and I'm enjoying it. I think this is one to be worked on and to improve rather than be dumped.

This is a game engine so old at this point that no amount of dressing up in revealing tops and short skirts will attract it attention like it got back in high school 10 years ago. It simply does not hold up in a modern world.

It is buggy, old and abuse-able. Scripted events don't trigger in much the same fashion they didn't back in Oblivion, then Fallout 3, then Skyrim, then Fallout 4. The bugs. Oh god so many bugs. I think the main reason they removed friendly NPCs is because you could probably still put a basket over their head and rob them blind. A bit like Bethesda is trying to do with its customers. Although we all know they haven't included them because this engine/game wouldn't be able to handle them.

It looks UGLY. My god is it ugly. Fallout 4 was too but they really doubled down on it here. Ramping up shaders a pretty game does not make.

The gameplay is boring and uninspired with a story to match. The "main quest" is as pointless and mundane as the rest of the quests and if the ending to it shocks you we need to chat because you've not watched many films and I've got some classics we should watch.

Bethesda have lost ALL my respect and from this point on, earning potential. Refund this game (You can do that regardless of their EULA/TOS if you live in a civilized country as your rights as a buyer are encased in Law.).

Further more if you're giving this game a positive review and you've been paid to do it, nice one, can I have a job as a shill too? If you're defending this game or its overlord of your own free will out of some weird "brand loyalty" you need to get a grip on reality. This game is trash and your brand loyalty is gaining you nothing but terrible games because you are the enabling factor in why awful content like this continues to sell and thus continues to get made. Stand up for yourself and you will get better games.

Bethesda only cares about your money, you defending them is pointless and stupid.

If a game isn't going to have a story, it needs to have a compelling world and environment. If it isn't going to have a compelling world and environment, it needs to have a great story. There is no story in Fallout 76, and the limitation on building structures (and the only permanent structures are those near your CAMP deployment [UPDATE: even those structures will randomly disappear without warning, it turns out]), makes building a futile waste of time. You're better off investing time into Fallout 4 settlements. Adding to this frustration is litany of poor design choices and bugs - no push to talk, no engine update (setting is in West Virginia but you can't climb up ledges when jumping at them - even DOOM lets you do this), its a social game that limits your party to four, the graphics are mediocre for the era, server crashes aren't uncommon. I really want to say something positive about the game because I love the Fallout franchise, but this honestly feels like discovering while you still care about your significant other, they've given up on the relationship.

This game lacks story, it lacks environment, and it comes with an unruly bucket of bugs from an outdated engine that needed to be put out to pasture after Skyrim. After the first day of playing it the only motivation I had for keeping at it was to see if it ever got compelling in its own right besides having Fallout in the title. It doesn't. This is the kind of work I'd expect, and be excited for, if it came from community modders, for free. This is not a AAA title release. Save your money for then it's 10 dollars.

This is a Vault-Tec style social experiment at total deprivation of satisfaction.

Some people say there is now story - there is story, lots of it. If you start playing this game without sniffing around and just skip everything you game will tell you - you would not understand anything there. There are many lore parts which explain almost everything happening there, why are there these kind of creatures, what faction tried to make life better in there etc. IT does feel a little bit different than FL4 because without NPC-s you do not have different choices for answering. Quest are linear but not bad. If you played FL4 with looking under every peace and rock, did every single side quest, then you will like this game. If you just go from point to point without paying attention much of the story - it is not for you.

Game is released a little bit early. I think after few months game bugs will be fixed. Bethesda will add more content there and today it is impossible to know will they introduce NPC-s or not. But as a story goes, there are factions and it is possible to add NPC-s without mismatching the lore.

A Lot of the bugs from BETA have been "fixed" (if locking the FPS to 63 is fixing a seemingly large issues with game physics). That being said there are still plenty of bugs and glitches I have come across in my gameplay.

Not only is Fallout 76 unrecognisable in its current state, but the good elements of Fallout are abandoned, and the worst parts enhanced; yes, the world is sprawling and verdant, but it feels... empty.

You can set off to the most remote parts of the map, exploring the lavish beauty of the Appalachian landscape, and you'll encounter nothing but endless waves of braindead, belligerent Scorched; hostile on sight, they offer no dialogue, simply muttering unintelligibly and proceeding to put up the most meagre of fights. It's hard to feel challenged when your opponent dies in one or two shots.

The events you can participate in with other players are more of the same — go to the location, receive some spiel from a robot or radio signal about an area under attack, and then fight off waves of enemies, and receive some caps and mediocre loot. Is that the best this game has to offer?

Plus the respawn is INSANE. You can kill an enemy, wait 30 seconds, and watch as your foe reanimates in front of your very eyes. Immersion-breaking maybe, but what's worse is that it often makes looting large areas considerably difficult — and not the fun, challenging sort of "difficult", but the tedious kind. It shouldn't feel like a chore.

In summary, if you played Fallout 4 and thought "man, what this game needs is more Raiders to attack me on sight, even less of a storyline, no human NPCs or communities, and guns that break", then boy do I have the game for you!

If you're a long time Fallout fan, prepare to miss the colorful (and killable) NPCs. Points are deducted for not coming up a better solution than simply having them all be long-dead. However, some of those points are returned for the intrigue of sharing the world with other living players which can add real tension. It turns out tracking a bounty (a player who has invited pvp upon themselves by killing someone who did not fight back) across the scorched landscape with a sniper rifle can be quite exhilarating.

Pathetic cash grab poorly hidden in a lazy re-skin on Fallout 4, almost no improvement yet all the same bugs and then some!
So if you like games that is more of a joke with its bugs and useless gameplay then you will love this game!

I can't understand those old farts who yell: Fallout 4 was better, Fallout: New Vegas was better etc. I have another offer: Let's live in caves, if it's too cold, you can lay on cold floor, you can write on walls, you can hunt elephants... It used to be better 300000 years ago. Now about Fallout 76: it's cool :)

I've played Fallout games since the original and I have to say "disappointing" comes to mind on this one. I didn't expect much, since multiplayer and Fallout dont belong in the same sentence, but this is even worse than I was prepared for. Some key issues that I feel stand out:

    1. The game is a bug riddled mess. The engine is outdated and is an unholy frankenstein-ian monster cobbled together that was never meant to do what Bethesda is trying to make it do. Frankly, its not good at anything. Its neither pretty, nor plays smoothly, nor is the combat engaging or fun. Enemies warp around and get stuck on objects and terrain constantly and you'll miss shots constantly even when aiming center of mass because the game has just decided you shouldn't be able to win. Its unacceptable for a "AAA" quality game studio to still be using this garbage. Stop.

    2. Your stash, the ONLY place you can store items, is limited to 400 lbs of equip. That may sound like a lot, but you'll fill it within a couple hours of gameplay. The sheer amount of junk needed to accomplish any amount of crafting will fill it up and leave you no space left for ammo, armor, weapons, meds, food, or anything else. Its unacceptable. The ENTIRE point of Bethesda-style sandbox RPG's is "grab everything" and they've broken that. I'm stunned.

    3. Base building, which is supposed to be one of the big draws of the game, is busted. Because of the small build area, and a ridiculously low cap on the size of your base, you'll never accomplish anything interesting. Just like the stash, its too limited in scope to matter. You'll wind up building 4 walls and a roof and put your stash inside and never visit it again. Also, bugged to **** as usual.

    4. The overhauled leveling/perk system is boring and anemic. I feel no more powerful at 25 than I did at 1. Perks are all mostly meaningless and give some insignificant bonus to a very specific situation that wont help you at all.

    5. Enemies are either so overwhelmingly powerful you cannot possibly face them (I suppose intended to be attacked as part of a group, lol more on that later) or so weak you could knock them over with a feather.

    6. The multiplayer. The map is so huge you'll never meet anyone doing the same thing you are or at your level. You aren't going to find people interested in grouping because FALLOUT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY and nobody wants to do it. Its a multiplayer single player game.

    7. PVP doesn't matter. Theres no reason to do it. You can "duel" by shooting another person and if they shoot back you fight. Man, what a design.

    8. Story doesn't exist. I wrote better stories in my 5th grade english class. There are no npc's, no dialogue, just a big open empty world for you to explore to find more bugs.

If you love love love Fallout and just have to experience it, go into it prepared to be let down. I've played for 4 days now and I'd rather be playing Red Dead 2, an actual open world game that doesn't blow.

After playing around 50 hours and reaching lvl 72 I found out there's no end-game content other than launching nukes. Which you can't really do as a single player because launch codes have 1 week expiration date (WAT!?).

Then there's PvP. Oh god, where do I start with PvP... Let's just say every single bit of it is broken and needs revamp,. Whether it's slap system which encourages griefing, wanted system that cuts you off from the rest of the players until one of them kills you, workshop where your own turrets start attacking you if you're wanted and where players can infinitely contest due to slap system, and finally Hunter/Hunted mode which has no cross-server matchmaking so good luck finding 4 players willing to PvP in a 20 player server. Only found 1 match in 5 days now.

I'm giving it a 5 and that's only because I love Fallout franchise and don't want it to die like Mass Effect: Andromeda did. I'd give half that in another case.

I can´t understand it, I´m reading the low score reviews and some of them looks like they didn´t play the same game as me.

    - The multiplayer in game is not the core, is just an extra. I´m playing Fallout 76 as it was Fallout 3 or 4 and enjoying been lost in the map, or explring a ruined mansion.
    - Bugs? Surely it will have, but I didnt find them at the moment, maybe a dragon flying backside?
    - I really love the building system.
    - The public events are funny, this is a good idea taken from games like "The Division", as I said it´s an extra to the game.
    - The music and sounds are, as usual in Bethesda games, wonderful.
    - The microtransactions are only for useless aesthetic crap. So, if you want it is your decision.
    - The only thing I don´t feel comfortable with is the UI, maybe too orientated to console users.

I don´t try to stop the internet hating machine, I just want to avoid you missing this game if you like previous fallout games.

I've enjoyed the beta and have been playing nightly since the launch in CO-OP. The story is interesting, following the trail of someone from your vault and learning about the final days of various groups pre and post the nuclear fallout. When people say there aren't any NPCs, they either don't know what they are talking about or they mean their aren't live human quest-givers. You will encounter many NPCs and help them along or take the traditional steps of appeasing them.

Current bugs involve the rare quest tracking issue, encountered it once and fixed via relog. Main annoyance is that the game is fussy about moving bases from one location to another when it comes to transferring a structure to unlevel ground. This is still the most expansive base-building has been in this franchise.

I love that the game is an ongoing, online effort for reasons of keeping it live and updated with fixes and improvements. Combined with future modding and 76 has the potential to be the most supported and updated and patched game Bethesda has ever released. I look forward to updates..

Expand

My first impression of Fallout 76 were unintelligible background sounds of another player while I tried to create my character. It's a pretty bizarre feeling when you try to immerse yourself in a world of long awaited game but the game doesn't allow you to.
From exiting uninspired vault 76 to late high level areas of the map, game falls short in presentation, atmosphere and most sadly gameplay. Yes, the exploration is still there, and in most basic way it still feels like a Fallout, but all of the other aspects are disturbingly lacking.
The story feels gutted and 80% of the quests are fetch quests or killing mobs in a location. In time it becomes obvious that despite the setting, you're doing the same two-three things over and over again, and it becomes dull and repetitive. Without npc's the world feels empty and generic and your journey in it feels the same - pointless and insignificant. Logs and quest goals that read about people you'll never see become annoying in time, and you, without a hitch predict that in the end of it all you'll find a robot or a dead body, There are few good quest, but they only remind you how dull are all of the rest and what possibilities this game could have.
Playing with friends mostly solves this problem, but not the rest. That is if you are relatively same level and didn't already finished quest that your buddy didn't. If you're in the same area of the map have comparatively same playing time. It's fun to run into a boss monster in the woods and have a long fight together just to find that your reward is level locked, your guns and armor are broken and you ran out of stimpacs.
Managing your inventory is a chore. You'll find yourself building your camp so often to throw all unusable high level stuff in to the box that have a limit that will force you to question yourself what do you hold in it except materials that you desperately need to repair your gear and craft ammo for the guns that you have to use, not want to use. Selling all this stuff is pointless, because trading in this game is useless - you get 12 caps most for some rare loot - the same you spend on fast travelling to the other area of the map. Disassembling your gear is pointless too because you can't build anything useful without perks which forces you to the same character build that everyone else have, so in the end you just throw your loot away, searching for the particular things, again not because you want to, but because you need to.
You don't need to build your base, because nothing interesting happens near your base, you just take your base with you, because of a stash. You want to create a fun character build? Well, you need more inventory space and loot from behind locked containers too, so that's that. You want to fight interesting enemy? You'll fight generic 5 types of mobs that spawn from the ground near you and bosses that glitch out on the level design, for the loot that you don't need or can't use. In the end game progresses from sandbox tutorial to repetitive grind without a purpose.
Is it fun for you? I don't know, but it weren't fun for me. But the saddest part is not that this game has dull mechanics, nonexistent story and an empty world, it's that this is a Fallout game. More than other this game is a disappointment. Playing this game I thought about what this game could be and never will be, and it makes me sad. Not angry, just sad. This is a one sad game.

p.s. And yes, it's glitchy, buggy mess with broken quests, awful frame drops and mind blowing spec requirements for what this game offers.

The quests are all lazy and the game design itself is lack luster with random holes in the map and floating foliage and rocks. the idea of the game is very interesting but if this game is to be taken seriously it will most certainly need to have a lot of work put in.

i have not experienced any game breaking bugs in game all of the bugs i have suffered are directly tied into the launcher they have developed. the launcher works poorly at the best of times and at the worst of times it just doesn't even work at all, it doesn't launch it doesn't download properly and frankly they should have just left the launcher to the people who know what they are doing with it and just bit the bullet for steam.

The PVP in this game is just as well completely pointless it would have been perfectly acceptable to just not include pvp at all and simply give us much more cooperative content plenty of mmos have succeeded without pvp and i feel like if it must be like this then pvp is just entirely unnecessary. a possible way to at least simulate it is you could handle it similar to how you handled settlement attacks in fallout 4 a large group could attack a fellow player and rewards could be offered to people who pop by to help out.

the game has potential and it disappoints me to see it in a state like this and be marked as released, this game feels and looks like an early access game in the vain of no mans sky and we all know how much of a fiasco that was. i sincerely hope Bethesda learns from this especially with this amount of community outcry.

All that said i will admit that i have had a fair amount of fun in the world especially when i am playing with my friends the building is certainly a little better done then in fallout 4 but unfortunately this game is one step forward and 5 steps back. i will play the game but i can see this game get very boring very quickly.

    2. No npc's means first and foremost a huge cut in production costs: no voice overs from contracted famous people, no motion capturing for their animations, no elaborate set dressing like homes and towns for them to live in, less money needed for writing compelling narrative, etc.

    3. Preorder to 'beta' (read: stress test for a very short while). AAA developers seriously need to stop doing that. The whole 'make preordering appealing for various reasons' strategy is about one thing only: making more money at a time when a product hasn't been held up to public scrutiny yet. For indy developers and start-ups, pre-ordering (based on sufficient information) is a great idea to fund new projects, but for AAA devs it's really bad practice and commonly used to sell subpar products solely based on their reputation and with very little information to go on.

I think this is a new low for Bethesda. I loved and played their games to bits since Morrowind, and I modded and cared for them, but I've seen inspired writing and immersive storytelling go down the drain since Oblivion (Obsidian's FO:NV being the only exception), like their ideas on how to run and control their games have take a turn for the worse with Creation Clubs and paid mods.

It saddens me as it seems they don't even understand the core aspects of what used to make their games so special anymore. The Fallout IP is turning into a parody of itself, rather than the refreshing parody of reality that it used to represent.

Worse yet, they are using an engine that was never built for online-play and it has has some easily exploitable netcode.

For years i have been a big fan of Bethesda and most say that i am rather Shocked of their latest Release, and here is my list of the absolute Chaos i went through playing my 30 hours Fallout 76

    - i started struggling with the resolution of the game i have a 37" Monitor, and when i started the game it kept going to Borderless Window Mode with 1920x1080, when i was aiming for a Locked Fullscren mode with 2560x1600, it took me proberly and hour before it suddenly worked... What a start...

While roaming through the first 45 min of the world, i met another player and we decided to run together to gain some experience killing things. We then encountered a pack of Mongrel dogs, and we started fighting these, and suddenly after i shot one of them, it went crazy (the ragdoll of the Mongrel i suppose it was) went to the air stretching across the whole map like something i have never seen before, just flying around, and after a while it happend to the rest of the pack, and it ended up killing us both because we could not hit them as they where stretching across the under the terrain, we were like, what in the bloody hell was that.. and this i just the top of the iceberg.

so let me short it down alittle.

    - AI is stupid and buggy as hell, you can trap them easy in the environment and kill them.

    - Scorched Model and Animation is absolutely Hideous it looks and feels like something from a 2000 Game... COME ON!!!!!, and same goes to alot of the other creatures!

    - Environment Design is SOULLESS, it just feels like they had to finish this game in a hurry and had absolutely no love for the environment, i've seen better designers on youtube creating speed terrain designs in Unreal and Unity Engines.

    - Textures, ohh the textures.. in many areas i encountered Flickering Textures which was so amazingly annoying to look at and so low res, and also encountered the whole Skymap flickering to Black.

    - Environment props are the same as fallout 4 plus some new ones which looks horrible too.

    - Crazy Framerate drops obviously because of the lack of optimization...!!

    - Too much Terrain, huge lack of city / industrial environments.. West Virginia? No Virginia, fallout i think had a great variation the big City and the wasteland, this is just Bullsh*t..

Bethesda just didn't do it this time, i am sorry and very sorry for all the people who had their hype up for this, what an absolutely disappointment, i do NOT recommend people paying for this.

i only give them 2 in rating for the online part, which actually seem to work rather great, but nothing else worked this time, good luck bethesda cleaning up this mess.

If you loved Fallout 4, particularly Survival Mode, this is basically that on a new map. It has plenty of content to keep a hardcore fan busy but very little of the social science (ethics and consequences) or strong characters that made previous Fallout games so memorable.

    The good:
-Big world to explore. Can be atmospheric and beautiful. Fun locations. Good options for varied difficulty levels (after leaving the facile starting areas)
-Translates some of Fallout 4 Survival Mode features into a more reasonable difficulty. Interesting environmental pressures at the best of times.
-Decent graphics with some shining visual moments. Excellent sound and music. Good acting on voice logs and humanoid monsters.
    -Coop can be super fun.

    The Bad:
-Fabulously tedious interface that gets worse the longer you play. Inventory menus were slow and unintuitive in every previous title, but two were turn based and the realtime games at least paused when you went to inventory! The system is archaic and nearly unworkable when monsters spawn around you in real time. Building and crafting menus are one step forward, two steps back from Fallout 4. The menus in general are an unholy marriage of PC complexity and Console button saving. All of the unfun housekeeping and inventory repacking takes waaaaaaay longer than it should because of these issues.
-Graphics are uneven. Some glitches. Some ugly areas.
-Shallow quests. Few NPCs. No player dialogue.
-Combat is clunky and repetitive. Enemies are glitchy and dumb.
-PVP is uncommon, pointless, unbalanced, and a huge immersion break. PvP usually starts by accident and neither side has a clear win condition. When a member of my party accidentally murdered another player, I was able to kick him from the party, execute him for the bounty, and then he rejoined the party a few seconds later. What is the point? I'd prefer separate PVP and PVE servers as opposed to the hybrid system presented here.

TL;DR: this is and feels like a really big Fallout 4 mod. If that appeals to you, you'll have many hours of fun. If you're on the fence, wait a year and see what direction this game takes with updates and DLC. With a few shake-ups, it could be memorable. Right now, it's a rough-around-the-edges niche product pretending to be a general audience action game.

This is an absolutely unacceptable excuse for a 2018 open world RPG game. When I compare it to Dragon Age: Inquisition (2014!!) I am just disgusted. Not even talking about Witcher 3, this is a complete disaster. Technical issues, the graphics just make want to puke and the worst of that... the clumsiness. It just feels incredibly clumsy movement and UI wise. The implementation of theThis is an absolutely unacceptable excuse for a 2018 open world RPG game. The implementation of the social aspect is just ridiculous, it lacks logic and intuition, Also, microtransaction. At that point it should be clear what type of game is this.

I urge everyone not to buy this. We deserve better than this.

    Pros:
    - It turns on (if you are lucky)
    - You can meet most of Fallout menagerie - It has Fallout names on things Cons: - Bad Graphics - Bad (and lack of ) Story - Bad shooting mechanics - Bad bugs (and lot of them) - Bad world building - Bad building mechanics (it will disappear anyway - or get nuked) Looks feels and plays more like a steam early access game for $2 and not

Very many bugs, the whole feeling of the game spoils !!!
Why was it necessary to introduce pvp if it is only by agreement of the parties?

Fallout 76 is not the 1 out of 10(fan boys throwing a tantrum) nor the 10/10(Paid Shills) people that are giving it but it is an extremely, painfully mediocre game, a solid 5-6/10.

Pros - It's fallout, there's endless content and exploration. It's fun to just mess around with if you're just looking for a casual game to kill some time. The gunplay is fun and so is scavenging. Cons

Cons - It lacks all the character of a real fallout game while replacing it with nothing.
    -No non-robot NPCs, ZERO, NONE
-Quests are all given by holotapes or notes.
-Little to no interaction with others unless you have friends, might as well be solo player +1.
    -Typical fallout bugs
-Player Levels are almost meaningless except for equipping gear, I killed a lvl 40 mob at lvl 10.
-No real vendors or traders to unload loot, those that exist have very limited trade both buying and selling.
    -No Followers
    -No Main cities or hubs
    -No customization/mods

Honestly this game had potential, but it feels like some major corners were cut and it was released on a deadline rather than when it was complete. It just feels like a game in beta through and through. There is just not a single thing above average in this entire game while there is more than enough to complain about.

I would gladly pay $15 for this game, but $60 is too much which is why I'm asking for a refund.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
