Not only is it overpriced at $60, the games micro-transactions were up and running before they even fixed most of the bugs that were reported in the B.E.T.A. Pass on this game and maybe pick it up when it's on sale if you have someone to play it with. It was not designed for, or even balanced playing for playing solo even though Pete H. insisted that it was.

In summary, probably not the game you are wanting it to be, more bugs than previous Bethesda games, severely under preforms in combat, UI and AI when compared to other AAA titles. but decent enough to pass the time if you have someone to play it with or when you are waiting for something else to come out.

This game is Early Access, content bare, and is just an expansion map for Fallout 4, to the point where mods from that title are working without any changes in Fallout 76. That is how little work was done to fix the engine. If you want to see the OCD cleaning simulator, they by all means grab it at full price and hope that they sell enough copies to eventually add in all the missing content and fix the *amazing* array of bugs. It would also be nice if they can stop all the cheating that is already being noticed two days after launch. Just Google "Fallout 76 Nulear Codes" and you will see all Bethesda'a claims about nukes being limited and not overly useful for PvP, just became a lot less true. All because they implemented it in the laziest way possible that took one whole day to bypass.

Fun Fact: They made a profit of $400m+ from Fallout 4, and now have a team size of 400 people. Apparently 85% are all level builders...

Fallout 76.. Its a shame the game is being bombarded with negative reviews by people who haven't touched the game. The game is not perfect but its still a lot of fun,
If you're the type of person who enjoys looter shooters then this is for you.
Quests are not halve bad but it could do with some NPC 's.
The game does need a serious performance patch

I was a fan of Bethesda, and the fallout titles before they were acquired. I'm one of the very old guard of these games, to the point where I've spent more time in the world playing or making mods, than most of the developers. As such, I've always been interested in why they take the direction they do in each new installment. After many hours in game, I simply cannot believe they had anything other than utter cynicism at heart when they produced this product. There were a million and one ways they could experiment with the title and multiplayer functionality, but the only reason I see that we could have ended up here is if they set out with the goal of making an incredible cheap and content devoid game for the purpose of recurrent monetisation.

That's all this is. This is closer in terms of content, enjoyment, and I'd be willing to wager, development cost, to fallout shelter, than a mainline fallout game.

They wanted to see how this experiment played out? Tell them the only way they'll listen. Don't buy

Mechanically the C.A.M.P. system is superior to the settlement building system in Fallout 4 and playing in a group will allow your group to set up multiple camps throughout the play area. Too many issues (bugs, mapping keys, fov, etc...) to give a positive rating. Too much fun exploring the map with friends to join the review bomb squad handing out all the 0's. Would have rated this higher if the solo experience was more fun. I really enjoyed the game with my friends but found the world very boring on my own. I can't rely on my friends to be on everytime I want to play. At this moment, it gets a 4, but I'm willing to change it if improvements are made. Expand

It's a complete disappointment and cash grab. They threw in the cash shop before even rolling out any fixes. It's early access that will break your wallet. There's a reason the Critic Reviews are silent, cause they know if they tell the truth about how terrible it is they wont get press passes from Betheda anymore. Give it a year and it'll be fixed if it's even still around.

The response from Bethesda when these issues arise are jokes about how "haha bugs again how typical us xD", instead of taking it seriously, and when they do issue out a statement about some of the gamebreaking issues, they just say it won't be out on launch, we'll fix it in the future sometime (maybe). It seems like they have stopped caring and they think this is somehow an acceptable state to put out a Bethesda game. It even has a bug that deletes your game for clicking play, how is that even possible? The game barely has any NPCs, devoid of any real story, and generally just feels soulless. it might be fun if you roleplay with your friends though, i'll give it that. After playing the B.E.T.A. and the game, i feel very dissapointed, its feels like a early access game, with terrible microtransactions. old outdated engine and generally unfinished in every sense of the word. At 60 usd... I haven't been this disappointed in a game since No Man's Sky. And this isn't an indie company either, this is Bethesda. This is completely unnacceptable. Bethesda should just stick to Singleplayer experiences, that's what they're good at, they're clearly incompetent at this. And if they intend to use the same engine for the new elder scrolls game, as they've stated, I will be severely dissapointed at that too, they NEED to make a new engine, its very outdated and its clearly not made for multiplayer, they need a new one. Also, all of them are able to be earned through regular gameplay. The social side of Fallout 76 is incredible (and hilarious at some points). I once found a player with the EXACT same face, hair, clothes, etc. I took a picture while he was on his PIP-BOY, and sometimes see it as a loading screen. Overall, the game could use optimization. My GTX 1050 OC could run Fallout 4 on all High and Ultra settings at 60+ fps. On the contrary, Fallout 76 runs 50-60 fps on Low. The game looks almost exactly alike F4, why is it so much more demanding? It doesn't necessarily look bad on low, just not great. Expand

Bad skills/perks systems. In an older games there were a lot of skills and this made Fallout as RPG. So, for me, Fallout without skills is not Fallout at all. You can call it with another name, but please, don't call it Fallout.
As for me, the best part of the Fallout was NV. It has all, what game needs. So, if a new Fallout game will be from guys, who made NV, I buy it. If it won't - I won't.

The game can be extremely fun with friends (like most things). For the most part, the funniest things are usually bugs or glitches though which isnt a good sign. Exploration and the world on the other hand are amazing in my opinion. It is way more interesting and detailed and colorful than Fallout 4 was and so it gives sort of more insentive to look around and find cool places. I have to admit, F76 has some of the best looking areas in any Bethesda game to date. I have't explored the whole map yet so I cannot say if the game gets boring after that, but it certainly isn't that yet.

I haven't played the main quests or really any quests for that matter, since they are not interesting at all. There are no memorable characters. Unless a roaming super mutant merchant or a 100th Mr Handy bot with the same exact voice is memorable to you. It really is you making your own story and fun which isn't really what Fallout has been nor what people want it to be.

The technical side is a mess. Graphics to me do not look as bad as some people are saying but they're not good either. Animations are janky and outdated, lack of push to talk makes it so nobody is ever talking, game lags when loading things in (almost as badly as Subnautica for instance) and there is a lot of pop in in certain areas. Enemy AI is braindead for the most part and either run right at you or run away as fast as possible so you can't even hit them with VATS.

Gunplay to me is also very outdated and takes some getting used to and I suppose it has its own charm to it but it could be way better. VATS seems fine to me, though I do only use it on enemy npcs and not other players. PVP is a complete mess. The system doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. I was being shot at and all I had to do was ignore it and not shoot back even though I was in someone elses base. The gunplay does not fit pvp at all and the hitboxes being weird in this game, I don't see a reason to do any PVP at all.

Overall I do enjoy the game even if I don't want to. It could be a good game but Bethesda has taken a wrong way to go with the game. I do hope they fix the issues that are present in the game right now but knowing Bethesda that might not happen. I guess my final verdict is that the game is NOT worth 60 dollars but if you can get it somewhere cheaper, sure go for it. It can be fun

There not being human npcs didn't actually bother me too much, I got used to it very quickly, and it in my opinion doesn't effect the game play at all. I like the Mr. Handys any way, though there are a bit too many holo tapes. The pvp is very fair though as not everyone wants to kill people, if you want to do that, go play rust. In this game you can mind your own business and do whatever you want without really having to worry about other players. If some players are trying to kill you, all you have to do is either not fight back, and if they kill you, they get a bounty or leave that server and join another server. Base building is nice and balanced, you can't place your camp everywhere as it takes a decent amount of caps. Again this game does not deserve the amount of hate its getting just because its not fallout 5 and it multiplayer. Though I don't get what people mean by the game is unfinished or the graphics are bad, I don't know what utopia future they are living in, but the graphics for the game are nice. The quests of the game are also pretty cool as almost every location you visit has something with it, either you have to do a quest associated with it and other buildings, but they aren't each very similar. Each of them feel very unique and cool. You have quests where you go across the map, or quests that link to other quests even. Most of the people I'm assuming came to this game with a negative opinion in mind even though they had not yet played the game. I mean its almost like a negativity bias with what these people are doing. They come to the game with negative opinions and they block out all good things about the game with the things that aren't so great. They saw that the game was multiplayer, or how there are no human npcs, and heard that someone else say that they think the game will be bad, who heard from another person that the game will be bad and the chain of negativity continues. I know this game doesn't exactly deserve a 10, but I'm going to give it that just so people don't continue this negative bias towards the game without even playing the game and never fully experienced what the game holds. - Targeting is difficult, more so than in FO4, and vats is near useless. I tried it several times over the course of 4 hours of play. Ap ran out very quickly and even in Vats.. melee is infuriating. Swing 10 times and it sounds like it hits, but it doesn't.. which eventually results in death or trying to run away. Be sure to close Vats first or you can't run away..
    - Switching weapons mid combat is far more difficult than it should be.
    - There is no real 3rd person view. You will not get a better view of what is around you so, it's first person or... don't play, I guess. Disappointing.
    - Starving to death while you're afk or doing things with perks is kind of garbage.
    - The perk system itself is clunky and underwhelming.
    - My game crashed 3 times in less than 3 hours, and no, my computer is not the problem for that.
    - I had an issue with the game code and the customer service I received was terrible. A copy/paste of something from the help section that i'd already read and didn't help me. Still waiting on their next response. I don't expect to get one.
    - Lack of anything at all for new players who have not played a Fallout game before. I have over 700hrs into FO4 and I was even confused by some things.
    - Menus can be difficult to find.

This game needs another year in development.
I would also suggest different servers for different types of play.
-Casual servers with no starving to death issues.
-Moderate servers for what the game has now
-Hard servers for those people who enjoy a difficult game.
I don't think this would be difficult to do since its already 24 people per server.

On the positive side, I like the crafting system and the idea of public events.

The hate seems a little bit too extreme. I think mostly people came expecting this to be a typical fallout game. I played for about 5 hours yesterday with 4 good friends, and we all had a fantastic time. I mean probably the most fun I have had in a long time with a game. You just need to range out, and roll with your buddies.

I didn't feel like it was that hard to deal with either. There is more disease/sickness, i got parasites when i ate an uncooked radtoad egg, but found a cure disease bottle that cleared it up.
The online feature is not intrusive, and I only came across a few players. You get a sense right now that all the vault dwellers are working together. I had no run-ins with violent PVP yet, as i'm still only level 6 and PVP doesn't start until level 5.
I played with a friend and it was easy to join each others game and find each other.
The graphics are great and more colorful this time, all the new enemies look good and move fluid. The sounds though are amazing, and since you will probably wear a headset to talk, it's very immersive. When you are next to the water you will hear all the insects, or if you are standing in the forest you will hear the wind blowing through the trees.
The music has some new songs mixed in with old. I was weary when i heard beach boys wouldn't it be nice but it was followed by that hack em wack em song.
The leveling seems cool too with being able to equip different perk cards, I like this better than FO4's wall of perks.
VATS is cool and I don't miss the time-slowing.
The exploration is amazing though and i didn't even want to setup a camp yet because i just kept moving. If you are already a Fallout fan get ready to finally explore with your friends!

If I have one complaint so far the trading takes some getting used to and i think it could be quicker.
I drop traded with a friend to get around that. I might just need to get used to the system so that it goes quicker.

    Oh boy, where to start...
    1. Lack of any Graphical option is disturbing, and the graphics in many cases look very dated.
    2. It is a Bethesda game which means it is full of bugs, that is a problem in single player games let alone multiplayer.
    3. The quests are very boring as you need to stand and listen to holotapes for minutes. After a few hours I was already sick of having to stop in place to listen to one holotape just so I could pick up the next one. I guess it must a blast to play with a friend and having to mute/hush them every time you pick up a holotape.
    4. You have to wait until people finish with crafting stations before you can use them, and that can be a long time, again more waiting. I am guessing it is the same with terminals, tho I am not sure.
    5. There is no text chat in game (?!), and the mics are always on which means you will hear people eating, breathing, peoples pets, family members yelling... Which can also "help" you not hear a holotape you have been listening to for some time, so you have to start over.
    6. Running into people is rarely fun (the most prominent reasons being already mentioned above), the PVP is also butchered.
    7. The world is empty and dead of any life, tho it does look pretty even with very dated graphics.
    8. Events are also very boring from my experience, go there kill this, enemies come in waves. Just very repetitive and not fun at all.
    9. The point of the whole game is just to farm and grind, which isn't that much of a problem in itself, the problem is made clear that there is really no incentive to do so
    10. While I didn't level up much, the question still stands, what is the end game? Just more farming and grinding without any meaningful rewards ?

Oh and the game isn't on steam and you have to use their horrible Bethesda launcher, that I installed when it first came out and deleted it after 10 mins, not much improvements since then.

Overall a horrible game in my opinion, not the Fallout I love, and I even enjoyed (modded) Fallout 4. Don't listen to those that just **** on the game with nothing else to add as to why, but also don't listen to those who just praise it without giving their reasons.

It's like they took Fallout 4 and removed everything good about it.

It's not just that the game isn't worth $60- it's not worth an hour of your time.

Play DayZ, or Rust or something. This game is an abortion of an attempt, and it's sad it has the name Bethesda on it.

It has a few minor bugs and issues, but is fun to play solo and multiplayer. You got a decent story that keeps the world feeling as alive as possible, though at points it can feel a little empty. The world building is as good as ever and I am excited to see what future content Bethesda will release.

I will also update the rating as I play more, but wanted to get this review out there for people to see that the game is not that bad as some are rating it, at least to me. The 2.6 rating really surprised me, because I typically agree with low user reviews for recent games (looking at you, Destiny 2). Games like the previously mentioned are ones that I just can't get into and don't last 30 minutes playing. Fallout 76 is not one of those games.

The atmosphere and graphics are gorgeous in some areas of WV, especially in the first main questing area after you get out of the vault. Following the holotape breadcrumbs and learning about what happened to the doomed settlers in the area is haunting and provides a good story from the get-go.

The crafting and level up systems are very similar to FO4's systems, and they are intuitive and feel good to use.

The online play and group questing zones, similar to the group questing areas in Warhammer Online 10 years ago, feel fun to play. Also the hand gestures/emotes are funny in online interactions.

The only downsides I see to this game so far are a few bugs, such as the game crashing when I exit it, and the character selection screen not showing my correct character level. These are minor things though, and don't take away from the overall experience.

I would say overall, if you enjoyed FO3, NV, and FO4, this game is for you. Again, I am so surprised at these low ratings. The game just feels and looks great to me. But perhaps I will change my mind by endgame. If so, I will update this rating.

Fallout 76 is a disgrace of a fallout game. Even if you take fallout out of the title you still get a bland and boring game. If this the trend bethesda softworks is going to follow then I have no problem seeing them get completely shut down. Online only? No human NPCs?
No proper main story or side quests? This is not fallout, honestly at this point this is an unethical business practice

The lack of human npc can sometimes be strange but i do not think it is something that is that bad. Even in other games the best stories told are the ones told through the environment and notes.

I think that the multiplayer experience is well reasoned and well implemented aside from a few minor gripes about balance and quality of life.

This is not an MMO and this is not purely a Co-op either, it is more unique than that and I applaud Bethesda for taking the time and having the courage to make something truly unique. That being said, this game is everything that I ever wanted in a multiplayer fallout game and more. The experience of seeing other players, meeting to trade, to fight, and to team up is really a fantastic experience. It adds a new aspect to the world that never existed before by providing a novel feeling of vulnerability that past games just could not give. The player character is no longer a god, they are a denizen of the world and to thrive, they might sometimes have to work together with or fight against other players.

Many have criticized the world for being "empty", but I think that is a matter of perspective really. Bethesda seems to go out of their way to give that feeling of the world being empty. Everyone, every living person, is dead. Some were alive days before you got there, but they are dead now. You can see their faces and hear their voices on holotapes, get a sense of their personalities and lives, but they are gone. Not a single person still lives when you arrive. This seems to build a tension and an expectation of the possibility that perhaps somewhere, someone could still be alive but they never are. This is actually really cool. When people say the world is empty, they really should be sure to say that this does not mean that there is a lack of content. The world is painstakingly crafted and full to the brim with small details, lore, and points of interest. It is probably the most dense map I have ever experienced in a Fallout game, or even in any game. I am glad, in a way, that there aren't obnoxious, boring NPCs walking around to ruin the atmosphere when they repeat the same 3 lines over and over and over again.

So far, the game has been more than worth the money and Bethesda has great plans for the game. This is a living game that will grow and change with time. Vaults will be opening and faction operations are going to begin soon. I am very excited to seen where the future takes me with this game and I hope that other people can see that in this game as well.

And do the bugs just mean people should ignore the limitless fun that can be had with friends, and just messing about, doing quests in the wasteland, making a huge fortress of a base? No, in my opinion they don't. So if you have a few friends to play with and don't mind the occasional bug, this game is for you Expand

    Recommended improvements:
Fix the mob glitches where their models are either messed up or they are attacking you and you can't see them.

Add Human NPCs with actual story components.

If you're expecting a fallout game that is deep with story, this isn't the game for you. There are quests in it, however, they are simple quests that have large rewards. Most of the people complaining about the game seemed to expect a whole new fallout story line. Granted it has been 3 years since the last fallout game, but that's still not enough time for a well developed game. Fallout 76 is essentially fallout 4 set in a new environment where you can play with your friends.

this was just a small explanation for those who ask why i even rate the game without even playing or having it. and the reason why i only give it a 3 out of 10 is simply because of its technical state. if you do some research, watch soem streams or youtube videos, you will see that the game is super ugly for a 2018 game. it has the same technical problems like all the other bethestda games. the performance is awefull. i wouldnt even care about this game if it would come from a indie developer, but we are talking about a multi billion dolla company here. releasing a product in such a terrible technical state is unaccaptable. the technical quality is something you would expect from a indie pre pre alpha no name developer annd not from a AAA producer.

I'm a longtime fan of the franchise. I've played all of them except Brotherhood, and I started with them as a child. I've liked every one. I do enjoy 76 so far, but for slightly different reasons than the last games.

So far, Fallout games have been about exploration, marked and unmarked locations to discover and explore, a story to experience as you go through the world, side quests that usually have some humor or a bit of information about the larger world to add to our understanding of the setting. Well, 76 does have all of these things. 76 manages to do a lot of these things that we expect from a Fallout title. The thing it does not do, that (most) of the previous titles did have, is player choice in the narrative, and NPC interactions.

The difference between this and previous games is that all of the NPC's we would normally talk with, died shortly before the player shows up. We find the remains of battles and we find their bodies and such. The plot is discovering why and how, so we won't go into that, but the point is that the normal NPC interaction that people are used to in these games is missing. We do most of the lore discovery, and most of the storytelling, is done through notes and terminals and holotape recordings. Which is fine for learning about the world, and it's adequate for telling us information, and there have already been a few holotapes that were dramatic and conveyed emotion to me, but I understand the criticism that many people have. It's adequate for conveying storytelling, but it's not that interaction that people are used to. They want to talk to people. It's a bit unfortunate that a lot of the other reviews are very hard on the game and this seems to be the most common reason. Bethesda said from the start that they want to roll with the idea that every human you come across is another actual human player. This was the game's pitch, it's what made it unique. Someone at the company had this idea and they rolled with it. This was clear from the start, so a lot of these reviews that seem to be disappointed by the lack of NPC's is a bit perplexing.

It's also worth noting, on the lack of NPC issue, that there is more voice acting and recorded dialogue for this game than every other game combined. Look it up on google, it's a fact. So it's not that there just isn't any voice acting or things to learn from people. It's just that the people are all dead, and leaving their diaries for the player to discover. It's not actually all that much different than an NPC going on a longwinded story of his recent events. One of the criticisms of New Vegas is that NPC's will occasionally stand there and go on and on spilling information to the player. It's not that different in cases like this.

The positive aspects about the game are that it has many new enemy types, a map 4 times larger than 4's map, more voice acted recorded dialogue than the previous games, and the sidequests are just as involved as the previous games. The storytelling is done through discovery, so the player is more like an investigator after the fact, rather than in the middle of events, but the tone this sets up is unique and works.

It's missing a couple things though, so I wish I could give it an 8.5 instead of 9. The PC version should allow for DoF adjusting, widescreen support, Push To Talk, rendering distance options, and other quality-of-life options that PC players are used to that scale with the strength of their machine, and aren't uniform like on consoles.

Overall, the game offers many of the things we expect from Bethesda's Fallouts. Marked and unmarked locations to explore, some interesting quests, discovering lore about the setting, etc. It ends up being a very different experience than the other Fallouts, because you are an investigator after the events, but this is just a different tone of game. I've been enjoying it so far, and I understand that it's a very different tone than most other Fallout games. I think at the end of the day, whether you like it or not mostly hinges on whether or not you mind that you're coming by after the events and discovering what happened or if you want to be in the middle of them. This tone is a lot different and might not be for everyone.

Bethesda built this game off player interaction, the players being the only NPC's, but this was a mistake. the world feels empty and forcefully built around this premise, people dying soon before you discover them or everything and everyone being a robot. This focus on interaction with other players is a bad idea, as most players either stay away from others for fear of PVP or try and kill each other, and there is no good way to communicate since there is no text chat or push to talk, its all of your mic all the time. Microtransactions are abhorrent in a 60$ game, and the gameplay gets extremely grindy once you hit level 25. Settlements are limited and the inability to craft storage not tied to your stash makes no sense. Not worth full price, and not even worth the 42$ you can get it for on a CDkey site right now. If it gets some major content updates in the future and the issues get fixed it has the potential to be a decent fallout based survival game Expand

Fallout 76 at its core is a game designed in a similar fashion to that of Fallout 4; split between too many directions and attempting to cater to too many different groups that it fails at everything it does.

Fallout 76 utilizes an aging engine, which in and of itself is actually a very good engine, but one that isn't kept up to the recent gaming market standards, nor one that is utilized to even a fraction of its potential. This is evident by the numerous mods that outstrip the vanilla product that are produced by unpaid, [at times] hobbyists without the resources of a massive business at their back.

Fallout 76 attempts to appease both PvE and PvP players using a failed system that in the end only detriments both groups. Throw in the poor shooter mechanics, framerate/graphics issues, server issues and numerous bugs and you're left with simply a poor gameplay experience.

Furthermore, Bethesda's attempt at creating any meaningful story once again falls quite short in a world devoid of human NPCs, adequate quest systems or progress. The world and story are poorly crafted as is, hidden behind the logs of newly deceased West Virginia residents rather than a living, breathing world, but take into account the multiplayer nature and you're hard pressed to enjoy a narrative with others talking over audio logs.

All in all, if you're looking for a proper Fallout entry (by that I mean Fallout 1, 2, 3, Tactics and NV), then you're out of luck here. If you're looking for a poor attempt at a console port and Fallout 4 multiplayer devoid of anything of substance, then this entry is for you. This of course is subject to change in a year or two with the addition of private servers, mods and bug fixes, but this hinges on the fact that Bethesda actually cares to fix their game's issues which doesn't seem likely given that these core issues were in place three years ago with Fallout 4 and the contention of the game's criticism.

Lastly, Fallout 76 is of course a Bethesda game riddled with Bethesda bugs tied to an engine that's been modified and remains unfixed with the same bugs present since Morrowind. One can hope the numerous bugs will be patched, however, given that Bethesda hasn't cared to do so in several game releases (Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76), this doesn't seem to be a good hope.

Overall I've given this game a 4/10 due to subpar and poor visuals, performance, narrative, quests, world building, gameplay and bugs. Visuals, performance and bugs are fixable which would give this game (IMO) a 7/10. This is, I believe, generous considering the fact that this is an entry in a once renowned, beloved and masterpiece RPG series: Fallout. If one were to look at this game from a Fallout perspective, then this game would score far lower in my mind considering its inability to remain true to the tenants, lore and core that is Fallout.

I'm not going to give this game a 0 out of spite like others, but I'm also not going to sit here and pretend like this game has no glaring problems. I've experienced broken quests, a-posing enemies sliding around on the ground, de-buffs from items that can't be cured, very poor hit-box registration and unresponsive combat, insane performance issues, and many more bugs that were present in the beta, and still made it into the final release. There are no NPC's, no dialogue, and no choice. Instead, you discover the dead bodies of NPC's and you have to listen to holo tapes that provide no immersion and seem ramble on for ages. You can hear people speaking to you, and quest objectives telling you to "meet the mayor" or something along those lines, only to reach this person and realize its actually a robot or a giant computer terminal. It results in a dead, boring world that sadly has no life to it. If I were to go into hardcore fan mode, I could complain about the lore established by previous titles, and how this game absolutely shatters everything that has already been set in place. As a positive note, I do have fun playing with my friends. Interacting with each other to fight a group of enemies or just exploring the world can be fun, but after a while it just isn't enough to keep me playing. I have given this game 25 hours minimum, to ensure I have seen and done as much as possible, the last thing I want is to create a lackluster negative review based out of spite. I can admire Bethesda's interest to push the series into a new direction to offer something fresh, but sadly this risk was not worth it. A return to normal single player RPG stories would be a much welcomed return in my book. Expand

Fallout 76 could 've been a great game. But it feels like early access. The engine used by this game is too old for a game like this. The mechanics feel not fluid. We are forced to install yet another launcher on pc, etc.

Pure cash grab with unnecessary limitations (stash size, weapon/armor level), empty/soulless world and quite a few bugs. Bethesda knew why they didn't released on steam, because this way they could just grab the cash and offer no refunds.

I'm still wondering why Bethesda didn't changed the whole game to battle royal to grab even more cash (probably the engine wasn't up to the task).

BGS litterally thought, that just because this worked in ther SP games, it will work here. Completely clueless.

    - Sub-par, clunky, annoying gameplay, that cannot stand on it's own, when all the "good stuff" (RPG/NPC/STORY/FACTIONS/CHOICES) are missing.

    - 90% reused assets from FO4, which would probably make this game the biggest asset flip in history, even FO4's DLCs had far more new assets... it's insane;

    - Lore retcons, that make no sense, and completely destroy previous established lore, either because they were too lazy to create something new/interesting, or because of their complete CREATIVE BANCRUPCY.

    - Most of the things you do in this game, DOESN'T MAKE SENSE (setting/immersion/gameplay/interactions wise). ZERO effort and common sense.

    - Atrocious graphics, which thanks to their REGRESSIVE "new lighting/rendering update", look worse than FO4, which with it's mostly accurate PBR rendering looked very decent, ESPECIALLY for a BGS game. There is tons of art inconsistency, that they tried to hide with insane amount of postprocessing "smear", and Todd Rays, which looks embarrassing.

    - Insanely unoptimized game, but that's mainly the engine's fault, that doesn't even support things like LODs for meshes/models, LIKE ANY OTHER MODERN ENGINE, which results in huge performance hit, despite their low-quality/outdated 3D assets. This is completely unacceptable in 2018.

    - One of the last objectively good features from FO4, that had the potential to be the ONLY thing that would make me play this game - THE BUILDING/SETTLEMENT system, is COMPLETELY NERFED, probably because of the engine in a MP environment. Where in other games like Conan Exiles, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, without ANY limitations. The building system in 76 is simply pathetic, and not worth even doing, and with that pretty much goes away the ONLY possible interesting thing/selling point.

    - And the best thing, which is the final nail in the coffin full of fan tears and broken hearts, that is mainly caused by their LAZYNESS with their choice not to put the effort (read: spend money) to put NPCs:

    Z O M B I E S W I T H G U N S!

This game is an insult, to the franchise, to fans, to casual(unsuspecting) gamers looking for a MP survival game, to people's intelligence, to people's money, TO EVERYTHING. It's poor in EVERY POSSIBLE ASPECT. Nothing redeemable. NOTHING. Firstly, it's a buggy, poorly delivered mess. The AI is either broken or they just didn't really bother adding any in, the game crashes and the servers go down constantly and other varied problems persist throughout gameplay.

Secondly, the lack of NPCs make the world feel empty, the quests & quest log are just unappealing.

The multiplayer aspect is completely unnecessary as PvP is completely lacklustre and hasn't had any thought into it and perhaps the only saving grace of the game; being able to play co-op with friends is fun, admittedly, but so far I've not had a single quest where I've thought "I really need a friend to help me out with this".

The C.A.M.P system is mostly irrelevant and unnecessary too. There's not really any gameplay reason to have a camp other than "because it looks cool".

In terms of gameplay and RPG elements, the combat is just appaling, the perk system allows for no focus in play-style and the enemies are buggy, samey and don't feel challenging at all.

There are other problems with this game but at this point, you get the idea already anyway.

So who is this game for? If I had to give an answer, I'd say it's best for people who enjoy games like Rust but with no challenge whatsoever:
+ Pros: Is fun with friends, does have some kind of cool lore stuff buried somewhere in this mess of a game, the end game seems like it could be relatively fun
    - Cons: A LOT.

I really enjoyed Fallout 4, and this is more of the same. It really feels like Fallout 4 +multiplayer. I do see a lack of NPC characters and admit, I miss them a little, but I am still having fun with crafting, exploring, etc. I love the new Perk/Card system. The decision to release the game on PC without ultrawide support is absolutely stunning, but their plan to make that availableI really enjoyed Fallout 4, and this is more of the same. Fallout 76 has no content to warrant calling it a game! Outdated engine with poor graphics, mechanics, frame rate and the usual bugs you'd expect from Bethesda. Can't give this any more than a 0/10 because technically there's nothing that makes it a game.

This game is, simply put, an overpriced joke. I'm so glad I asked for a refund before It was too late.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
