They chose to go for the fps like gameplay and for the building of your settlements (we already have proper games fore that) leaving behind what made the old games great. Everyone which played Fallout 1-2 or even New Vegas know that I mean. This Fallout is even worse, they chose the online path, a mistake already done with TES online and this is the result. The game lacks story and immersion in what is the world game, they changed the original concept of the post-apocalictic enviroment in benefit of countless hours where the only thing you do is kill and loot. This game is not disappointing because I was prepared for this since the moment they declared that was online. They destroyed my favorite series for money and to follow the tendency of the moment. Fallout 3 was just ok I guess but I am certain of the fact that the only thing that Bethesda did great for the Fallout brand is to leave the development of Fallout New Vegas to Obsidian which did a very good job in my oipinion. In the end, Fallout should be a RPG with great story, great setting and great characters, not just a money spilling MMORPG(kinda) which tons of hours of the same **** and absolute garbage base building. It is simply not needed: it is not what a Fallout fan is looking for in this brand. The sooner they realise it, the better. The only thing I suggest Bethesda to do is to go and try the original 2 games and NV. Expand

This is not a singleplayer game. It is multiplayer and I love it. Others might not, but it is just stupid to give bad reviews because a Game is in a different genre than you would like it to be.
Of course there are some minor bugs but this is one of the most stable Bethesda releases I have ever played.

Ive played the beta for around 30 hours and I can tell you that Fallout 76 has a deep and interesting story that's portrayed in an incredibly immersive and creative way. You can definitely tell the developers put in every ounce of effort they could muster. If you are unable to read then perhaps this game is not for you.

The neck beards complaining about the lack of npc's are literally just scrounging for any excuse to hate on this masterpiece. First off, this game has TONS of npc's. The definition of a npc is a character that is not controlled by a player. Therefore every enemy you encounter (and there are literally thousands of them) is an npc so the complaint that this game has no npc's is objectively FALSE. Second, there are literally thousands of lines of dialogue in this game so people complaining about the lack of npc's have definitely never even played it and/or are unable to play a game without the game holding their hand the whole way.

Multiplayer is a blast whether solo or with friends. This game allows you and your friends to do something that no other game can come close to: create your own fun. If you lack creativity and an imaginative mind then this game isn't for you. Only casuals and non-gamers are afraid of real human interaction. The way PVP is set up is that if someone attacks you then you have to shoot back in order to engage in a battle. This is a brilliant feature as it allows me to prepare for a malicious player's assault by equipping my power armor and my strongest one-shot weapon before the battle is initiated. I'm still undefeated in PVP which is a testament to my skill developed from years of hardcore gaming experience.

I've also heard complaints that there are alot of technical issues with this game but they are ALL lies. It is an absolute fact that Fallout 76's graphics are at least on par with other AAA games released this year. As for bugs I have yet to encounter a single one. I've seen videos where enemies are approaching the player in a "T-Pose" but what most people don't realize is that this is INTENTIONAL. The AI in this game is so advanced that the enemies will purposely enter a T-pose to distract players as they get in range for a lethal strike. Pretty genius design if you ask me. People complaining about the nonexistent "bugs" in this game are simply complaining that the game is too hard for them.

As for mods, the game doesn't need them. It is perfect the way it is. Without mods you are experiencing the game as Bethesda intended it after years of meticulous design and hard work. Again, those that are complaining about the lack of mods are really just complaining that the game is too hard and they need mods to play the game for them. Maybe its just me but I like a real challenge in my games.

    10/10 game, easily GOTY

The story is limited to notes and recordings in a medium that's "Let the player do" instead of "Tell them what happen", normally that kind of story telling is an optional addition to the games experience.

Fallout 76 and Fallout 4 both have lore that goes against established cannon, retconning those previous games is disrespectful to the writers and developers of past games.

The PC edition launched without a number options typically found in sixty dollar triple A titles. From the options menu you cannot, turn off depth of field, bloom, god rays, bloom, change the Anti Aliasing settings, or set an ultra wide screen resolution. The strange thing is the game does support all those settings if you change them from the configuration files. However the normal user would have a difficult time figuring out how to go about that process. Bethesda omitted those options from the game for seemingly no reason.

After exploring the map, the size of which is one of the games few positives, the gameplay would consist of mostly building your camp and controlling public workshops. The building mode in the game while aggravating at times does work and is improved slightly from Fallout 4.

Other players from my experience will have voice chat turned off and will ignore you after a wave. After twenty hours of leaving my microphone on in hopes that I would make a lasting connection with someone I decided to turn it off so I could listen to an audio book without having to worry about others at all.

All of the good things in Fallout 76 can be better found in Fallout 4, and basically this game is Fallout 4 striped of it's substantial story elements and combined with the restrictions of a multiplayer game.

If you are looking for a deep RPG with a branching storyline, give this one a pass. If you're looking for a nice Fallout experience with (or without) friends, I'd recommend picking it up. I've mostly played solo with voice chat off and have had a blast, so don't worry if you have no one to play with.

Do not listen to the negative review bombing the elitists have given it. It needs a spit and polish, but it is a good game.

This game is rubbish, not only is it not: the plot, interesting quests, interesting gameplay as it tries to put pressure on a feeling of nostalgia by introducing such fractions as the Enclave into the game. It is a pity that Betnesda chose not to try, but released a bad mod for the full price.

    What is Fallout 76?

It is a multiplayer game set on the Fallout universe. Unlike previous Fallout games, two of which have been developed by Interplay and Black Isle (Fallout and Fallout 2, respectively), two of which have been developed by Bethesda (Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, in addition to Fallout 76), and one which has been developed by Obsidian (Fallout: New Vegas), Fallout 76 doesn't even try to hide what it is: a multiplayer, online survival shooter with the bare minimum of elements necessary to call it an "RPG".

But what does this mean, in practice?

There are no human NPCs in Fallout 76. The only humans you will find are other players. You get quests through holotapes, robot NPCs, among others. This game relies solely on Bethesda's famed "environmental" storytelling, which is as environmental as having a voice telling you what you are seeing. That is because Bethesda's "environmental" storytelling consists of nothing but notes and journals and holotapes and terminals, a far cry from the truly environmental storytelling of Fallout 1, where you can find an abandoned facility that lets you piece together what happened there just by looking around the environment, finding dead bodies, unopened doors, unactivated machinery, etc.

Fallout 76 is not a good RPG. As such, it fails as a Fallout game. But what about the game part? The simplicity of the quests in this game mean that, unless you are really, REALLY looking forward to spending hundreds of hours doing nothing but fetch quests, base building and PvP that has been nerfed because "griefing is bad in a post-apocalyptic videogame", then the odds are you will hate this game.

I give this a 5 because it is simply a mediocre game by any metric of the imagination, but in reality a 1 would be more fitting, as it is an absolute disgrace as a Fallout game, and a bad joke as a multiplayer game.

Yes, it has a huge map and crafting is back with more options and the gameplay loop is still passable as "somewhat fun", but we've lost NPCs, engaging story quests, most of the narrative, not to mention the trainwreck that's the SPECIAL system right now and at the end of the day, this game is a huge sandbox that, in all its vastness, ultimately feels empty. Bethesda has removed a lot of things compared to FO4, but forgot that if you take away from the game, you're supposed to put something in instead.

Additionally, we still have the same friggin problems we had with FO4, but this time, modders won't be able to fix these for at least a year. No FOV slider, FPS lock on PC, weird glitches, objects and enemies stuck in the terrain, MY CHARACTER stuck in the terrain, missin push-to-talk option, disappearing and t-posing enemies... the list just goes on and on... Hell there are even bugs that Bethesda supposedly "fixed" during the beta, but here they are in the final release.

Microtransactions are the final nail for me. Yes, you can earn everything by playing but just the existence of MTX in this game makes my blood boil. It makes it seem like this game went for profits and profits only. At least the cash shop works perfectly, am I right boys? It just adds insult to injury.

Bethesda really needs to get its crap together if they want me to put money down for their products ever again.

Basically it's an asset flip of Fallout 4, minus real quests, plus multiplayer. And the multiplayer serves absolutely no purpose in this game, it's just in there because Bethesda wanted to dip their toe in the water of "live service games", or in other words: Cash in on the most profitable industry trend. The game is so ridiculously easy most of the times, there is zero reason to ever play with other players. And PVP doesn't even exist in this game. I mean in theory it does, but in reality it's just not a thing. The spank system is the most broken and stupid concept I've ever seen in a "PVP" game.

Besides all of this, the technical state of the game is an insult to every gamer. Even on systems with a 1080ti the game runs like absolute dog. The field of view can not be adjusted, it doesn't even support widescreen monitors (yet), the frame rate is locked to 60fps due to the horribly aging Creation engine in use and how its physics are tied to the frame rate, patches in this game can be larger than the actual game itself without offering any new content, the beta deleted itself at one point, and countless other ridiculous issues that occurred during my beta plays.

This is a 20$ early access game on Steam. Unfortunately it is sold at 60$, by a company notorious for not fixing any bugs in their games.

And ironically enough Bethesda, the only people who could save you now, are the ones you locked out of this game: your modding community.

Stay away from this hot garbage, no studio should get away with this level of laziness or incompetence.

Ripping out the (humanoid) NPCs, with narrative and quests tied up with them, populated settlements, choices and consequences, and companions with personality and story arcs, was a terrible mistake and kills this title on arrival. It's what most Fallout players play for. Not shooting, looting, and building/crafting, or whatever godawful way that 'loop' was describied. The lore and the living, breathing, and rebuilding world. Not to hear some dads kids screaming at him that he is 'doing it wrong' all through character creation, exploring a world where everyone you might have wanted to interact with or things you might have wanted to do are already dead/over, and then spending a dozen hours seeing glimmers of what could have been amazing but was a total wasted oppertunity in reality.

Fallout 76 feels like you are playing the aftermath of a much better Fallout title. Factions and probably heroes fighting to survive, events and great battles and personal struggles playing out, before someone messed up and got a Game Over and everyone died. Then you arrive. You spend the entire game cleaning up a mess/messes left by extinct factions, in a dead and lifeless map, with the end goal of stopping/killing what caused a second mini apocolypse, probably with an alliance made up of a guy eating chips loudly down his mic, a silent dude in a dress and part hat, and someone who can't stop jumping for two seconds. If you are lucky enough not to be met with stony silence and people totally ignoring eachothers existence which was all I found.

Made single player, with a populated world full of NPCs, where the stories on the holotapes actually played out in front of you and you could take part, this could have been vastly better than FO4 or even Skyrim. It could have taken the crown of best Fallout from New Vegas without a challenge. Instead, it commits the worst sin of all, in that while being bad, it isn't even interesting. It's just so very, very boring. It feels more like a chore simulator than a video game.

And all this is without all the wonderous technical issues.

Avoid. I'm only giving it a 1 because nothing that even launches is worth a 0.

Great game , maybe best of 2018 :) An amazing fallout world that gives the possibility to play solo or in a group and other fantastic things to do. Good work Bethesda.

As expected, Fallout 76 gets all 0s and 10s on day 0 of its release. Both are equally ridiculous for this game.

The negative bandwagon led by YouTubers and diehard Fallout fans have skewed perspective and opinions of this game for the most part. The game is flawed but far from the 'cash grab', 'dumpster fire' or 'unplayable mess' many make it out to be. Any offline Fallout title would

The negative bandwagon led by YouTubers and diehard Fallout fans have skewed perspective and opinions of this game for the most part. The game is flawed but far from the 'cash grab', 'dumpster fire' or 'unplayable mess' many make it out to be. Any offline Fallout title would be much less of a strategical risk for Bethesda as opposed to trying something completely new that can fail horrible, as it just might.

Bethesda's biggest mistake in attempting an online multiplayer game of this scope might have been picking the universe of Fallout. The title implies this might be a Fallout story and dialogue driven RPG, yet it is anything but that. This is not a traditional Fallout game in any way or form. There are some NPCs in the form of robots but they are few and far between. There is no dialogue, no choices to be made and no consequence of action - all staples of all Fallout games before this one.

That being said, the game behind the Fallout front it is actually quite enjoyable. Contrary to many stories the performance is pretty solid across the board and framerates are higher than Fallout 4 while offering much more detail in draw distance and small details. '

Bugs have become a staple of any Bethesda game and I have to say it was a lot better than I expected. During the beta there were some glaring issues with the game speeding up on my 240hz screen but they fixed this before release - although they capped it to 60fps now, creating a whole new issue with disgruntled PC players. One bugged quest is the only real bug I encountered beyond that, though there are supposedly quite a few quests that cannot be completed at this time.

There is a large amount of content to be found. The map is by far the largest in any modern Bethesda game (starting from Morrowind, that is) and the environmental storytelling - terminals, holotaps, notes, etc - is up to par with what we have seen from Bethesda in previous titles. There is a huge amount of stories to be found in this world. A lot of quests tie into this and though some of them feel like hollow fetch quests, there are plenty that actually immerse and interest the player in the underlying story.

I do wonder what target audience Bethesda had with this game. Most traditional Fallout fans are definitely not among them, which is for a large part the cause of the public outcry against this game. The game at time leaves you wondering - 'What exactly is this'? - to quote Bethesda themselves. It is unique in its style - but maybe it's unique because hardly anyone actually wants this. By its marketing, it almost seems they wanted to target the Fortnite audience with this game but I can hardly see the average Fortnite player playing Falllout 76, which is pretty slow-paced and non-competitive in comparison.

Personally, I had a lot of fun with the many beta hours and the first day of gameplay. It plays a lot like Fallout 4 in terms of combat and building and the multiplayer side of the game can be mostly ignored if you want. The added benefit of strolling the wastes with a friend or partner is great but the events and PvP hardly add anything solid to the game.

I would recommend this game to players who have no great affinity with storiytelling in games and like to play casual shooters or building games with friends. For any Fallout fan who wants dialogue, story, and consequence of action - this game is not for them. But the many 0 reviews on this page will say enough about that.

    Best game of 2018

Even though I was a huge Fallout 3 fan, I held off on buying this game because I saw it got some bad early reviews and because I wasn't convinced my 6 year old PC with a 3 year old graphics card could handle it. But this weekend it was on sale and I decided to give it a shot.

it looks terrible, graphics is so bad - you can't look at it without tears on your eyes
to make it more terrible i think bethesda need's to include pay to play system for this "game" because todd wants MONEY MONEY MORE MONEY by doing bad games

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
