Rating this game 5/10 because I was able to get it for $34 (European Version CD Key). Otherwise, I would've probably given it a 0.
Definitely not a $60 game, more like an early access / un-finished game. The idea is there and this could be an awesome game if it was done properly, The world is empty, and feels dead, the content there is in the game, is hard to enjoy due to all the bugs

One of the worst games in recent years, hell - even decades.

Bethesda tried easy money grab and finally as previous fan i finally abandoned them, the Fallout 4 was already **** this was a total garbage. Can't believe they still using this 20 years old engine.

Fallout was one of my all time favorite games. As were the elder scrolls series... You screwed up the elder scrolls with ESO. Now Fallout!?!?! Leave our favorite single player franchises alone!!! Fallout 76 is total crap as is ESO.

You know, it is actually rather fun when you're playing with friends. Get a buddy, explore and craft together, and you might find yourself having fun.

Note: Causes my gf to get motion sickness.

I didn't want to spend my cash on it. He bought it as an early x-mas present so I would play and I gave it another go! 1 patch later a headache of downloading and going over my internet cap, and 100 hours of gameplay later I can only say this is a masterpiece and I was so used to instant gratification and games that hold your hands of today I did not see the depth and passion that was in this game. I regret ever bashing Bethesda for this game! I have had nothing but great times and now that I know wtf I'm doing and playing with friends everyday this game is on another level and we all just didn't see it! but now I see it, I see the amazing item complexity's and crafting builds in retrospect to the amazing perk card system that allows you to swap loadouts on perks. just wish there was a way to save loadouts and swap them without doing it manually. I see the massive amounts of level depth and planning the first time I took posiden energy plant with a full squad and now every time I catch the cute easter eggs hidden in inanimate objects, graffiti, termanals, and blood scrawled notes on the corpse of dead raider joe, Yes this game is buggy as hell, Yes I have 400+ triple A titles in my steam library, but you know what. I wake up I want to play fallout 76 and discover more loot, I want to burn more, I want to be more efficient at learning great spots for those springs and gears, where the red apocalyptic fern grows and a mini-nuke down to 1.5 pounds with the bear arms perk launching 489 dps in a catastrophic mushroom cloud of death at any who dare appose me until I run out of rounds and my weapons break and I'm flailing on the ground save me save me to my team who are equally as frantic as hoards of scorched slam us from every direction while the blinding breath of the scorchbeast queen pulverizes my t60 power armor to dust! im 100 hours in and I still have not walked half the map or even stated the quest lines I'm not joking!! I did my first 5 quest tonight and they were very well done. Sure this is not a game for Tom Cruise. But this is one of the best games ive played in a long time and I really wish it had a better launch, people were way to quick to judge just like I was by some fluke I kept playing and I think its one of the best things that ever happened. Sorry for my poor grammar and the long rant of a review but I feel this game will have a spot in history as the game that surprised the world when it picks up steam in reviews again. and it will just look at ESO same story not as great a game but it fleshed out to be a really good MMO, Cheers to all you still trending the wasteland at least you know what I know Expand

Online only meaning you are paying for something that you can only use when you are told by the makers of the game. Why would anyone buy it? It's also obviously a complete broken pile of gabage. The sooner people stop buying this crap, the sooner we'll get a decent Fallout or Elder Scrolls single player story driven game. 0/10

I really wanted to love this game. As such, I can only 'like' it. I've wanted a multiplayer Fallout game for some time now, but 76 is not the answer.

Whilst the combat is, for the most part, fun, there are those glitches that see my hunting rifle that should one shot kill some of these enemies, not do any damage at all for maybe three shots in a row.

I'd like to do more quests, but I spend almost all of my time looking for junk to scrap so I can repair my weapons and armour, which seem to break incredibly often. The hunting rifle in Fallout 3 could fire over 650 rounds before breaking. In 76, it feels like I'm only firing 50 or so before the rifle breaks and needs repairing.

Survival mode is a permanently on feature. In 4, you could switch it on and off, but 76 makes it mandatory. I get there are some people who like survival mode, but I'm not one of them, and I feel it should have been an option like it was in 4.

You have to scrap weapons just to see weapon mods, let alone unlock them. At one point my entire inventory was made up of hunting rifles, just to unlock some mods, many of which ended up being mods I didn't even want.

The game has features that it doesn't even tell you about. Juicehead has already identified 30 different features that the game straight up neglects to inform you of.

The way weapons and armour levels up is nonsensical. Leather Armour should be low level armour, with combat and marine armour being higher level, but you can find leather armour at any level.
And the lack of human NPC's... ugh, the world is so empty.

Frankly, the game is tedious, the only good bit is the combat and even that is marred by terrible weapon condition and bugs.

I loved the early Fallout games, but this game is just terrible. After a few hours of clumsy annoying play trying to find a town following the story quest, I was hunted down, harassed, and killed by a squad of lv 30 players that were out hunting newbies for fun. This is the worst game I have ever played.

I'm keeping this short and concise, it's only fun with *enthusiastic* friends, otherwise you won't play it. Even after the map is completely explored its still entertaining to complete the missions and design your camp. I've had this game for about a week now (as of November 23) and I can't stop playing. 10/10 best game of 2018.

Should not be available to the public yet. With developers pushing games like this there should be consumer protection laws against it. Constant bugs, no story or fun, open to hacks. Hope they reap what they sow here.

To me, the characters are what made Fallout, Fallout. In this game, the world doesn't feel alive, despite all the other players running around. There are no characters to talk to, to hear stories from. No humans to give you quests that have an actual meaning to them. All quests in this game are given by robots, which takes away the feeling that you are doing the quest to help a person. All the quests are repetitive fetch quests or escort missions. All in all, this game is a huge letdown that feels very empty and incomplete. I do not recommend this game until Bethesda adds mod support and private servers that allow you to up the player count to at least 64. Then, maybe, there will be some possibility for roleplay, which may or may not make the experience any better. Expand

Fallout 76 has compelling writing and acting which flesh out interesting stories in a beautifully constructed world. As with many previous Fallout games, you get what you put into it. If you pay attention there is quite a lot of storytelling just sitting there for you to figure out. Read a terminal, listen to a holotape, look through the person's rooms, and track down the path they trod. Fallout 76 is a wonderful experience which tackles the complex progression of society's decay in a post-apocalyptic world. All this while also creating interesting factions and characters through its text and recorded audio.

I have only played Fallout 76 solo and feel that it is just as good for single player as Fallout 3 or 4. Sure, there are other players running around but overall their impact on my experience is very limited.

If you're looking for a world where your character is the center of the universe then this game is not for you. This game is not about your character. This game is about everyone who came before you.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Long time fallout fan, drawn in with three so some might call me a newcomer but id say having experienced every iteration of fallout to have taken place in this engine allows me to confidently say this is the least stable.

i have roughly 20 hours logged and i have to say that every quest feels like an uninspired slog from point a to point b and back for a little more ammo and some xp. weapon mods give you a reason to keep looting but you reach a point where you no longer have anywhere to store loot, even after trying to sell off some stuff.

The camp system is a relatively decent port of the settlements from fallout 4 but you're prevented from doing anything really interesting or fun with it by build size limits and the inability to build near existing locations.

Player interaction is a joke, trade is nonexistent with other players and next to pointless with robots as most items are worth literally nothing, PVP should have been left out as the way it's implemented means if you don't want to interact with PVP you don't have to and can just leave the server or move on without taking any meaningful damage.

Level locking weapons seems like an unnecessary way to keep powerful weapons out of the hands of low level players and personally resulted in my inability to use the first gun i came across.

Notable glitches that happened in the hour preceding this review alone, crashes, server disconnects, a glitch in a quest where you drop quest items from your inventory and the game decided to register all of my .308 ammo as a quest item before causing it to disappear into the void never to return, a supply drop was spawned inside of a boarded up building, enemies both t posing and having severed appendages reattached with long strands of flesh.

Enemies are probably the worst part of this game because with no interesting NPCs to occupy your time one would expect enemies to pick up the slack, i have never felt threatened by an enemy in this game, my first death (and second) were the result of trying to participate in an event that i was unknowingly about 30 levels under leveled for, literally every other enemy i have encountered has been laughably easy to dispatch and frequently when fighting a band of enemies of mixed level the highest level enemy seems to somehow be the easiest to kill, also the vast majority of the time scorched and ghouls are the only enemies you seem to encounter while wandering, and while scorched seem to be the replacement for raiders it seems game breaking to find spawned in and lootable raider corpses out in the world.

If the narrative that the vault residents are the first to set foot in Appalachia since the nukes fell, then how did raiders get here. I'll not even mention the fact that logistically there is no way the brotherhood of steel should exist in this game because delving down that road may result in an aneurysm.

All in all i got about what i expected from this game the only reason i didn't give it a 0 is that some people put together this world, and it does look good, granted it also looks like it was made six years ago because Bethesda refuses to acknowledge that time passes, which might be why the state of buildings in this game is roughly the same as the buildings in fallout 4, or maybe that's because Bethesda just wanted to recycle as much as they could from fallout four to minimize the effort they would have to expend on this game.

This is probably ten times longer than the average review of this game but i felt providing context for the hate this game is receiving was important, because people aren't just hating on this game because of the bandwagon effect, there are reasons to genuinely despise what Bethesda has done to our beloved franchise in this installment, and while some people might enjoy this regardless of what it is those voices cannot be given the same credence, someone who gives this game a 10 is just trying to offset the vast majority giving it a 0, now whether it deserves a 0 is up for debate but inflating your score to offset the average is just slimy, to anyone still reading this novel, know that this game is not bad because it exists, its bad because it wasn't given the effort it needed to live up to its potential.

This game is worse than I ever could have imagined. I wasn't anticipating anything great but I thought there might at least be some interesting game play. It turns out there is nothing. There is no real game beyond the interactions with other players.

Honestly this entire game feels like a crash-grab game that was made as cheaply as possible, while recycling as many assets and resources

Honestly this entire game feels like a crash-grab game that was made as cheaply as possible, while recycling as many assets and resources from Fallout 4 as possible, in an attempt to generate the highest possible profit margin. It feels a lot like the VR versions of FO4 and Skyrim only worse because there are other people being jerks.

I hope that Bethesda listens to the constructive criticism that has been posted in reviews and reacts to remedy those issues without either completely drop the title or overreacting to some of the more absurd demands. The game is flawed, but I enjoy it.

In the end the greatest fault lies with the lack of proper communication and poor judgement shown by Bethesda throughout the last 6 months. I hope a lesson is learned not only by Bethesda but also by their competitors that if you do not clearly communicate the end result will be a backlash. The lack of a clear vision resulted in multiple visions and high expectations that were not met.

Having no HUMAN NPCs is not that bad, and it servers an interesting plotline and strongly explains what happens to them within the game itself.

You walk around aimlessly for hours following quests which are so shallow it's almost painful, fetch quests are all the game has to offer you. Walk here, collect this, walk there collect that, shoot a few horrible animated, disgustingly buggy monsters, walk back to the robot hand in quest, get caps (currency) and repeat.
There is no characters in this game, a few robots that are so similar to each other you cannot tell the difference, no NPC to get invested in, no story or interesting dialogue to keep you pursuing and prodding further nothing. The game is unstable, server crashes, poor performance, so many bugs occur all of the time. The graphics are somehow worse than Fallout 4, it literally feels like a carbon copy of Fallout 4 but somehow downgraded, performs worse, over-saturated, horrendous texture resolutions, terrible animations, terrible post processing effects that blur out everything. You walk around seeing the world as if your face is inside a telescopic lens, everything is so zoomed in and claustrophobic, monsters can vanish from under your nose.
PVP is the most useless system in this game, you deal a small portion of damage to an enemy to initiate a "duel" however, the duel will not take place until the other player shoots you back. This leads to a situation where the other player can stack on all of the best gear, best weapons and kill you with the very same shot it took them to start the duel.
The game is void of anything, it is one of the most disgusting releases I have ever come across, it is such an insult to anybody that has paid £50 to play this unfinished, buggy, uninteresting, disgusting to look at, 50GB pile of dog.

Since some guy asked: "What is Fallout without the factions fighting for power, heartbreaking stories and awesome companions?"
An awesome game for exploration, designed to be played with friends or to encounter strangers. Because real humans are 10x better than boring NPCs.

To continue the "review" (from a guy who has apparently NOT played the game):
"The game strongest point - its combat system - is unresponsive and laggy. Meelee build is just impossible or not worthy."
This game was never sold as a shooter, nor is this the games only strong point. Melee build is very strong, so apparently you never played the game or are veeeery bad at it.

"God forgive me for paying this sick joke of a Fallout 4 multiplayer mod the price of a full retail game. Costumers, speak with your wallets. Collapse"
Feel the hate! God, what pityfui creatures Bethesda fans are.

Buy the game, if you want a mild online suvival game, with a strong focus on exploration, collection and a narrative world. Yes there are NPCs, yes there is a story, yes there are factions you can join and yes, there is a lot you can do in this game. Weapons handling is pretty good and reaction times are fair.
Strangely reminiscent of fallen earth for some reason.

    The Cons:
No NPCs and no real story arc. If anything just having some people still around would make the world seem more realistic, but all you see are enemies no one wants to talk or offer trades even little things like do you have extra rad away? Nope if it is AI it is there to be killed nothing more.

What little tidbits of story you do get are in holo tapes and notes.

Very few players online and when they are online they generally stay away from each other. Although I did have a visitor come to my home one day Lemonz or something like that they gave me some radaway and rad-x and then they left... there was no other real interaction between players that I have seen.

Mobs are easy to kill. There isn't much of a challenge in the enemies (I haven't seen the entire map so this may change). They vary between HPs like a tank or 1-2 shot kills.

Your fast melee attack is bound to the same key as throw a grenade for some odd reason.

    Other thoughts:
I came across some dude and some chick talking while killing stuff I thought to myself what a perfect time to stay hidden and eavesdrop. Yea.... that was a highlight of the game play. I also followed a guy into an instance once. He somehow pulled the entire instance on us every living thing was on us in a matter of seconds. It was a hard fight we both died, but only because the aggro was really weird. Either the quest pointers aren't clear enough or the event quests are glitched in some areas, because I spent a good hour if not more running in circles looking for something I could actually hit 'e' on at the power plant. Steam leaking from pipes? Yup, but they are not repairable.... Glitchy .... This game in it's current state is lacking a lot of polish. I think they might be able to do something with it, but there will need to be a lot of work done to the world to make it feel more like a fallout game.

Let me tell you what they wanted to achieve with FO76, all their next titles are to be released in the distant future, therefore they need something to cash in on in the long term, here comes FO76, perfectly crafted with Micros in mind, with a full price in mind, prefectly created to empty peoples pockets.

But theres a catch, they were either expecting a huge backlash and were prepared for it or they simply did not give a damn and said bleh, "true fans" will still buy it and enjoy it, let them "rage"

Nope, morons, it does not work like that and youve just lost countless fans by releasing doing this mischievous cancerous abortion on the market while maintaining your arrogance. You will pay for it

Too many bugs to give it any higher. its more of a 5.5 than a 6 right now. without bugs it would be a 6.0 - 7.5

The gameplay, world and survival elements are solid. the missions, quests and story are reasonably OK. but the bugs both game-breaking bugs and nuisance bugs are far too persistent. we are talking about fallout new Vegas level of bugs on release.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is a lot of backlash to Fallout 76 that is not unwarranted. The game is visually very similar to Fallout 4, utilizing the same exact models from the game frequently. Many have regarded this game as being like a multiplayer mod of Fallout 4. Others have also remarked about how the game does not feel like Fallout, and this is something I agree with, to a point.

Fallout 76 is a bright, colorful, and (somewhat) visually diverse game set in West Virginia. It is entirely online, with no options for offline play, and servers are capped at 24 players each. It brings back a core feature that had been present in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, that being item durability. Fallout 4's settlement building also makes a return with changes, as does Fallout 4's survival mode (albeit considerably less difficult).

Previous Fallout titles, such as Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game, are dark, barren (stylistically so), and bleak. This continues through all games until Fallout 76, where it comes to a screeching halt. The terminals and holotapes found in Fallout 76 differ considerably from earlier titles, where people living in the areas before the bombs were revealed to be unhinged. Instead, one reads and hears many stories of people working together, making things appear generally more positive than any of the other Fallout titles. That, combined with a more colorful setup, has made people feel disconnected from Fallout 76- it simply is unlike any of the other titles.

I sincerely believe that this is not a bad thing, though. Fallout 76 has proven to still hold many of the same story elements as earlier Fallout games, sometimes to its detriment, other times to its benefit. I will begin detailing the benefit:

Players will be able to leave Vault 76 into a very large world in ruin. Throughout West Virginia, people will find the ruins of towns and structures typically filled with hostile life. Areas without hostile life are usually inhabited by robots which seem almost oblivious to the end of the world. These robots give MANY insights into pre-war America that were not always very apparent to players when going through earlier titles.

The story elements that act against Fallout 76 are quite simply the ones that it cannot seem to escape. The Enclave and the Brotherhood of Steel have a presence in this game, despite it making absolutely no sense for them to have one. They are simply there because they are names that /must/ be in a Fallout title, or else it will not seem like Fallout to people. This comes at the cost of consistency to the story. There have been many times where I've poked through terminals, and someone mentions the Brotherhood of Steel, and all I can think is, "Huh?" Essentially, Bethesda is falling victim to the same thing that Star Wars has- they cannot go beyond what they have already established.

With luck, Bethesda can be encouraged to put greater effort into Fallout 76, which does have fantastic potential and really entertaining experiences and discoveries with other players. Until then, the game is okay. It is not terrible, nor is it particularly outstanding, but it can be so much more either way- I would vastly prefer the latter.

Yes, it has bugs. Every damn game since the original Fallout has had issues. I won't argue that point as it has been proven time and again that every Fallout has had some serious technical flaws.
My experience with Fallout 76 however has been overall an amazing experience that keeps me coming back to explore more and more of the enormous map of Appalachia. I've definitely experienced my share of bugs: 1 CTD, 1 infinite loading screen, 2 instances of taking damage from no visible source, multiple instances of crafting menus failing to load when interacting with workbenches, etc.
The fact that the game keeps me coming back for more -despite these bugs- is a testament to just how much fun it is to play. Even better is the fact that BGS will be actively supporting the game with patches and updated content.
Which brings me to the micro-transaction issue. I don't see one in this game. All optional purchases are purely cosmetic and have zero effect on game-play aside from letting you flaunt your style as you explore. You don't even have to spend actual money on the items as you earn plenty of Atoms (the in-game premium currency) from achievements as you play (including daily challenges).
Speaking of playing, the new VATS feels -to me- like the best iteration yet. It reminds of the turn-based days of Fallout where you didn't actually aim at your targets in an FPS fashion but would instead rely on VATS to give you a general percentage to hit your opponent (with the option of targeting specific body parts with a high AP cost - much like how in FO76 you get a general aim-assisted chance to hit the body until you invest in the proper perks to be able to target individual body parts). I honestly didn't rely on VATS all that much Fallout 3, 4, or New Vegas as it was simple enough to hit the enemy without it. But the somewhat clunky aiming in FO76 (thanks to serve connections and multiple players all causing some lag) makes the new VATS all the more useful for landing that one critical shot on a quick enemy that's getting wayyyyy too close.
Enemies, by the way, that are just as varied and interesting as the previous installments (with a few new wonderful cryptid oddities mixed in!). Oh and the NPCs are still there! Yes, many of them are actually dead and rotting corpses, but you'll still find some living characters that are just as fun to meet (even if you can't have an actual conversation with them).
Visually, the game is a definite upgrade from Fallout 4 (yeah, I think it's pretty and the god rays actually work now, fight me). You'll notice a bit more detail in all the armors and items and enemies (though it's still not as high res as I'd like, i'm okay with it as is.) and the sounds you hear from every shot and grunt and piece of junk are very pleasing.
To those worried about griefers - good news! There's next to none of it! At least I haven't experienced any in the ~80 hours of play time I've logged. Plenty of friendly interactions with other players teaming up, trading, guiding new players, and even setting up fully equipped C.A.M.P.s for everyone to use!
As for the story of the game, well, I haven't completed it so I can't say all that much except that the bits that I've gone through have been excellent.
Honestly, this game is 100% worth giving try. Don't let all the loud detractors get you down on what is honestly a very fun experience.

Now imagine Fallout 4, after all the patches and the community fixes. It was very playable and enjoyable in the end.

Fallout 76 has none of that.

Fallout 76 is Fallout 4 with a poorly designed online mod. Lots of new content, sure, but nothing - and I do mean nothing in way of all the new required game mechanics for an online world actually works as intended.

Been playing it with my wife since launch. I currently have time to sit down and write this review, because yesterday I found myself wanting to log in, but all my characters were gone and Bethesda "support" - after having gone through scripted AI bot responses - have so far taken over 24 hours to produce any kind of real response to my ticket. Anyway, here's just some of the bugs we've observed.

    - Teaming up before joining a server is broken. You enter the same server, sure, but end up unteamed. Only the system still believes you're in a team somewhat, since you cannot reinvite. You can only Kick team members. But your team doesn't show up on your map, you can damage eachother (bounty and all). So basically you have to both log in (to different servers) - "Join" the other player, "Invite to team" once joined. And NOW you're good to go.

    - Voice chat is "Always on". No PTT option. All you can do is disable chat entirely (there is no text chat). I don't even know where to begin with this one.

    - The CAMP (base building) system - worked so well for Fallout 4. It's the same system - but no one seemed to give much thought as to, how that would work in an online world of limited space. It doesn't.

    - They've artificially tried to make the game more of a "survival experience". So no vendors to speak of, and the few that are there will for instance NOT accept trade in the most commonly required resource by anyone in the game: ammunition. No, no, sell me your mentats, your dirty magazines, that burnt fedora you just found. Actual valuable scrap, ammunition, building plans... "Nah. Not having it".

    - Half the time, people on your team will appear running around in nothing but their undies.

    - 3 main quest lines have show stopping bugs in them. For example, one requires you to kill a certain character. And someone always does. But guess what; it's an online game. And once the character is dead, he stays dead for the duration of the server.

    - Many perk cards (the new perk system) don't do what they say. And can I just add; the UI for levelling up SPECIAL and Perks is beyond redemption. It simply needs to change - ENTIRELY.

    - The microtransaction store. I don't mind that it's there (at least there are no loot boxes), but there's nothing there anyone would want. And what IS there, is grossly overpriced. $15 for a costume? Seriously? Take a lesson from ESO, and put some stuff in there that people would actually want to pay for.

    - PVP - what little I've seen of it - is completely broken. As expected. You can turn on "pacifist" which - get this - now blocks you from damaging another player entirely, no matter the circumstances. Make that gank a little easier. On PVP; there aren't many problems currently with griefing. Everyone is busy levelling, getting set up, etc. But just you wait.

    - And then the system issues. You'll find hundreds if not thousands of reports of servers crashing (which makes you drop your collected junk materials on the ground - on the server that just crashed), people getting random disconnects (often, same result) and so on.

Save yourself the grief. Stay away.

I'll get back to kindling my support ticket now. They time out you know, if there is no activity in a certain timeframe. And Bethesda support... well it takes a while. A long while.

In now almost 3 decades (sigh) of computer gaming, I think this is the most disapointing game ever released by a major company.
Just read all those negatives review, this time they are relevant...
I've underscored the game a bit considering the hype and the AAA title.
If it was produced by some lambda company and if this game was not a sequel it would deserve a 4, maybe 5.

This is definitely nothing like bethesda's other fallout games but it isn't terrible either, just different. Compared to other games of this same structure, fallout 76 is decent. It's definitely better than the uninteresting exploration of The Division with it's repetitive apartment complexes everywhere and existence of npc's that stand there soley to be killed or give you quests. It's also funny to see the negative reviews parroting youtube videos with vague comments with no examples but being part of a group thats upset but not being specific about why is understandable. -> "its bad" -> "ok why" -> "Because" -> ???? The game was intentionally not released on steam so that gamers who regret preordering/purchasing it wouldn't be able to get a refund. On top of that, the game is a buggy mess, with outdated graphics, horrible optimization and a forced 60 FPS frame limit. Bethesda has really gone down hill.

That is exactly what I got. One of the users here tried to explain it was like a bad fortnite clone and I don't see it at all. It's more akin to DayZ, ARK, or Rust. It's a survival multiplayer shooter set in the Fallout universe, and it works pretty well comparatively. In fact, the overall hatred of this game has stumped a few of my friends who have been watching me play who were never interested in Skyrim or Fallout, at least not to a huge degree. They've found my gameplay interesting so far, with a number of things to do compared to the other survival games.

DayZ: Run to northwest airfield, craft crap, shoot enemies, and die from starvation/thirst, repeat
Ark: Tame dinos, fight bosses, craft crap, shoot enemies, die from a thylocoleo, repeat.
Rust: Build a base, raid other people's bases, craft crap, shoot enemies, die from another player, repeat.
Fallout: Go talk to a computer, go build a base, go raid a vault, go launch a nuke, go raid the blast zone of the nuke, play with friends, shoot enemies, sell your crap, buy crap, craft crap, listen to bombin music, play in a band, go on a hunt, etc.

Like... I don't really understand what you were expecting. This basically met my expectations and ended up being more fun than expected. However, I saw the problem well before this. Watching Youtubers like Yong speculate what the game would be about was.. hilarious. They were so far wrong at the beginning and you can even look back at what was said.

"You'll be able to play by yourself.. in a shared world" - Means: "Yeah you can play by yourself but you're gonna die."

"You'll be able to make personal choices" - Means: "It's a sandbox. You can do whatever you want. It's just like DayZ or Rust. Part of the fun is Roleplay."

This game is a DnD group's wet dream in my opinion. If you don't have an imagination or can't role play, or just don't have fun with other people, this game isn't for you. If you like to build your own story, play a character, role play with others, there is SERIOUSLY nothing better than this game. Having someone ask me for some aluminum scrap and then having them explain to me a story while we did the trade is probably one of the best experiences I've had in a game.

This isn't a story based Fallout. This is a roleplayers fallout. Get over yourselves.

In my opinion, FO76 should have never been pushed as a fallout game. It should have been pushed as a DOOM ONLINE game. Think about it. what other game/environment involves blindly moving around barren areas with no NPCs just to destroy hordes and hordes of enemies? What games story ultimately leads you to the endgame of defeating a huge boss that leads to rectifying some dire situation or saving the world from utter destruction? What game had virtually 0 NPC involvement other than possibly some small variants such mini bosses/etc (again-depends on what version you're talking about)? That's right....DOOM. Heres the thing though...DOOM was never pushed as something different. Everyone knew what DOOM was. it was a scary creepy storyline involving hordes of aliens from hell that were determined to destroy all humanity (or some varient-its changed slightly over the years).

I truly believe that this game was not about the "Fallout" story/lore/etc at all. This was a pilot attempt at creating DOOM ONLINE. The Fallout skins/snippets of story/etc was just an easy and convenient way for them to push this pilot onto the general public. Honestly-I'm fairly confident that Todd and the execs at bethesda do not care at all about this game tanking. They want to test the world and basic level features/functionality (ie-holotapes, dead npcs telling stories, etc) so that they can buildout DOOM to be the next gen online MMO.

Fallout 76 is horrible. For those that are like me, and expected a Fallout 4 experience with multiplayer, you'll be EXTREMELY disappointed. This game is much more like a bad Fortnite clone with Super Mutants. The graphics show no improvement at all over Fallout 4. The sounds and music are uninspired and lack emotion.

Now that we've gone over the good things about Fallout 76, let's go over the bad:

First and foremost is that the world is EMPTY! After looking for hours for a civilization, I found nothing. Not a single place that could pass for a settlement. There are no NPCs for you to interact with. There's nothing to give the game life. It literally throws a bunch of random players together and says "have at." The quests are boring and when you go farming monsters, they respawn faster than MMORPGs.

Now let's look at story. The story is this: follow the overseer, but we're not going to give any sort of guidance or hints, or anything. It's like playing the original Legend of Zelda with no shops, old men and women, or just about anything else that you can interact with but it's on a map the size of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall and dead enemies come back before you get a chance to get across the screen.

Next we have the glitches. Now Bethesda games have always been buggy. At this time, we expect their games to have a lot of bugs in them. Never before has any of their games done what Fallout 76 does. They've never completely destroyed what minuscule amount of immersion you might have with Fallout 76 by having random burned corpses and Brahamin spawn with their asses hanging out of ovens. This may be comical at first, but after seeing it repeated over and over again, it destroys your experience if you're even able to have one.

This game is purely meant for online multiplayer. It's honestly the only way that you're going to get any sort of enjoyment at all out of this game. The bad thing is that the multiplayer on PC and PS4 is completely unstable. The EXTREMELY bad and dangerous thing is that in both PC and PS4 versions, Bethesda makes absolutely no attempt to secure your IP address or account information. The information is unencrypted and anyone with the most basic transfer interception software will get full access to PSN/Steam user information, game license information, IP addresses and whatever else they want to pull up on you or anyone else in the session. Bethesda does absolutely nothing to protect you while you play this game.

Overall, Fallout 76 was a game that I expected to have bugs, but still be fun and exciting while keeping true to the Fallout experience. What I got was barely functioning piece of **** that has nothing to do with Fallout other than being set in a wasteland and having the Fallout brand name. When I found out about the completely open user information for everyone in a session, I immediately deleted my copies and changed all my passwords.

This game was a complete waste of money. I will give Bethesda one last shot with Elder Scrolls 6. If they do to that, what they did with Fallout 76, I'll be absolutely livid and will never purchase anything made by them again.

The quest line in this game is exciting and the way they have left clues on terminals, notes and holo-tapes makes it well worth to explore.

No Push to talk is retarded, absolutely the stupidest thing in any game online EVER, (will be fixed in time they say)

No NPC's(where will they scream REEE now?) the lack of any rush or real connection like previous fallout games had is just a total show of how much Todd cares about the cash over making something to be proud of. If they are not DLC/Patched in this will be a total waste of a game.

In addition, Bethesda takes the strategy of selling the product and with heavy patches go fixing it to compensate for the error. However, with the passage of time it will be finished in two years. Gameplay: Lets start with the fundemental's of the game the gameplay, The game essentially feels like fallout 4 although there are some fundemental changes to the game as it is online but most animations and i would say 75% of weapons are just carried over from fallout 4, Some even keeping the bugs they had in fallout 4 (Ill get to that **** in a minute) But it is stable enough to be able to enjoy the game.

Quests/Story: Sooooo the quest line specifically the main one, feels like it was just slapped together after bethesda "finished" the game world and machanics. there is alot of back tracking in the main quest and the problem with this is not the idea of backtracking itself, its that fact that fast traveling costs caps depending on how far away you are from the target location. Now this would not be an issue but hardly any of the main quest does not give you many caps and the caps it does give you cant be spent on anything worth while from a vendor because they end up getting spent almost instantly, Now i will say the quest for the enclave (what i have played of it so far) has a decent story thats easy to follow and the backtracking is nowhere near as bad and all the quest reward you with something worth it such as a legendary tripple barrel missile launcher that has lock on abillitys. or even the ability to be able to access missile silo's too launch a nuke at any location on the map.

World: The world is MASSIVE. So big that in the over 35+ hours that ive played of the game i have yet to even venture into the far left side of the map as all these other areas keep me wanting to explore, although the exploration is a little hindered by the lack of NPC'S. While yes you can find robots and gaoul's etc most are hostile and take away from the wit and charm of the older games. and it does not help that in the game the only live humans you find are only players so you go into a town for example and any mystory as too what you will find and who you will find is taken away as in your head you know every other human that is not a player is dead. The graphical style of the world uses much more colour then even 4 does, includeing more yellows and greens with a touch of blue here and there and is a nice pleasent change to the dull looking worlds of fallout 3 and 4. Fallout 76 has alot of towns and caves and building to explore its just such a shame the design choice to remove all NPC'S from the map hinder the exploration of this big and carefullly created world.

    Heres the good stuff:
Earlier i mentioned how some of the bugs from fallout 4 carry over into 76 Well heres a long paragraph of why i think its both bad and why it happens.
The game is based of the fallout 4 engine which is known as the creation engine although as some players like myself and others in the fallout community have discovered this actually hinders the game in alot of ways, for example the game has many of the same bugs fallout 4 has, for example yesterday I found a lever action rifle, which is also a gun in fallout 4's far harbour DLC and the reload bug is in this game, for those not aware this bug is a bug that when you shoot one bullet of this gun and reload you actually do the animation for loading all 5 bullets even though you only shot one, Please keep in mind this bug was in fallout 4 and never patched....... except it was by a modder... yeah thats right a modder fixed a bug in fallout 4 bethesda didnt even fix in there next game. As "gamers" fans of fallout need to stop giving bethesda a pass when the bring out these games that have bugs left and right.

A buggy desolate wasteland. Quests quickly become more of the same, doing dead people's bidding. It had it's moments, but it's not worth $15, let alone it's AAA price tag. I'd say pass and save yourself the money.

I found myself wandering through the wasteland and towards the end of the 4 or so hours I played, had to stop and ask myself "when does this game actually get fun?". No NPC's ABSOLUTELY hurts the game. The lack of literally anything to do (no quests, basically you run around playing audio-logs) means that when you do encounter another player, you're just as clueless as they are.

The biggest mistake is mine, that I fell for the hype and actually bought this game.

Buggy mess, played the beta. Even if they fix all the issues the core of the game is simply trash

The game is not finished whats-so-ever. It is very boring right out of the get-go. Definitely not worth $60... not even $40 that it's currently at. The game is failing worse than Andromeda did. Personally, if you are wanting to play the game, i would wait until it drops to $15 or less... otherwise, don't waste your time or money.

    Sincerely,
    someone who canceled their pre-order.

This game is the near equivalent of GTA online, without the expansive campaign mode. All of the bugs and monotonous loot hunts aside, the biggest thing missing was the obvious lack of NPCs. Bethesda's decision to remove non player characters and their storylines, quirks, and all other attributes that add to a rich atmosphere are lost, to be replaced by the occasional run in with another real world person that may or may not care about your existence. But unlike Rockstar's GTA V, where they first released a full campaign, then a bit later released their moneymaker online mode, Bethesda tried to capitalize on this by combining the two, leaving us with a half made single player game and a half made multiplayer game, which don't combine to create a full experience.

    1. Buy beloved IP.
    2. Have no respect for the IP, disregard all lore.
    3. Make a cynical, broken game that has nothing to do gameplay-wise with other games in the series.

The Fallout series has, for the most part, been a single player game with a wasteland full of NPC characters to interact with to breathe life into the wasteland. There was plenty to do, plenty of NPCs to interact with, and quests kept you engaged. Now comes Fallout 76, add vivid colors, online multiplayer, but dropping almost all NPCs which has literally sucked the life out of the wasteland. Really, only 24 real-life players to group up with in an attempt to bring the "world" alive? In the first couple of hours of play, I only came across 3 other people. One was so bored that he just went around shooting everyone. I started to become bored.

Bethesda should have taken Fallout through some "baby-steps" to get it to a full-fledged online multiplayer game. Fallout 76 could have been a pretty good online game, even with just 24 online players, IF they would have kept the vibrant world of NPCs around to keep the world "alive". They should have eased the Fallout community from the usual single-player game into a small interaction of online multiplayer gaming. Work out all the mechanics, fine-tune the multiplayer interaction, etc. They could have gotten away with just 24 players per server if there was enough other NPC/quests to keep you engaged. Once they work out all the issue and streamline the multiplayer experience, and only after this baby-step into the multi-player world, should they have attempted an online version of Fallout devoid of NPCs. And hopefully, servers with about 4-5 times the number of actual online-players to help compensate a Fallout world that would be devoid of NPCs.

Bethesda has taken a great single-player game and tried to do a full-on sprint into the online world and has fallen flat on their face with it. Which is strangle as Elder Scrolls Online seems like a decent game and they should have partnered with the developer for ESO to get it right.

It's just not keeping my interest and the pop-up "side" quests don't do a thing for me either. The world is literally dead and devoid of humans (NPCs) and with only 24 other players on the server, the server feels dead. The game feels like it's already dead... The great Vault-Tec online experiment with Vault 76 seems to be a complete failure. Hopefully, the next vault will have better success than 76 did.

I do love the Fallout series, and I will play some more of Fallout 76. But I don't see me putting in the days-on-end into 76 as I did with previous Fallout versions.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
